Las Vegas When to Go

When it comes to Las Vegas, there really isn’t a bad time to visit. Virtually every major holiday is a prime time, but Memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve are particularly popular. Big conventions happen throughout the year, but especially in January, early spring, and October to December. Even relatively slow times like August and the two weeks prior to Christmas are just opportunities for better rates and more breathing room.

There are things to be aware of during each season. Weather warms up quickly in spring, with temperatures in the 80s to 90s during the day (though it can still be cool at night), so pool season is always early here. In summer, temperatures are regularly over 100 (and stay high even at midnight), making drinking water and applying sunscreen universal necessities and outdoor walking discouraged. When fall arrives, outdoor activities such as hiking in Red Rock Canyon or visiting Hoover Dam are more appealing. In winter, temperatures can dip lower than most expect (even to freezing overnight), skies can be overcast, and there’s even a bit of precipitation (flash flooding does happen in January). Of course, this cooler weather rarely affects the majority of activities available but does provide added incentive to get outside and explore.

Vegas tends to be much calmer and more manageable on weekdays, when prices for rooms, spa services, entertainment, and even meals can drop, often significantly.

  • Consider taking off from or landing at nearby airports to cut costs. Enter your preferred departure and arrival airports in the form fields, then select the ‘Nearby airports’ function below. It will list the available options.
  • If you’re flexible with your travel schedule, click on the ‘Show flexible dates’ link. It’ll show the flight deals for the days around your selected departure. Fares often vary depending on the day of the week.
  • Hit ‘Show options’ to filter your search results. You can pick your preferred airline and seating class here. Under ‘Sort & Filter’ to the left, you can even specify whether you’d like to fly in the morning, afternoon or evening.
  • Once you’ve figured out your travel dates, lock in your flight. Prices generally rise as the departure date nears.
  • Consider bundling your hotels, flights and car rental with Orbitz to make your budget go even further.
  • Flying during the busy season can mean steep airfares. Try to plan your vacation outside of popular dates, such as school breaks, Thanksgiving and Easter.

  • To keep you amused on your short trip to Las Vegas, download some new tunes or restock the audiobook library on your tablet. Food can also be a nice distraction while in the air, so maybe even bring a snack.
  • Even if you’re flying when it’s 100 degrees outside, carry a cardigan or sweater on board with you. Cabins are notorious for getting a bit chilly!
  • Be flexible with your travel dates and hold out for sales on first or business-class airfares.
  • Many low-cost carriers these days offer excellent business-class seating that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.
  • Make the most of your airline’s frequent flyer program and use points to upgrade your seat. You can also bid for an upgrade in an online auction if available.
  • Start out in the downtown area and take a walking tour of the city’s top attractions. Las Vegas Convention Center and University of Nevada, Las Vegas are a couple of great places to start.
  • You’ll also want to see the sights within an easy drive of Las Vegas’s center. Make tracks to Hoover Dam and Las Vegas Motor Speedway and see a different side of this outstanding destination.
  • Put your tush in the driver’s seat and find out what else makes Clark County a magnet for visitors. Lock in a car rental with Orbitz and check out the delights of two other can’t miss cities — Mesquite and Moapa.

Flights to Las Vegas (LAS)

Use our interactive  Delta Discover Map  to help plan your trip. Search for your desired destination to see details on any potential entry requirements.

Flying into Harry Reid International Airport (LAS), you’ll land right in the thick of things. The primary commercial airport is just three miles south of the city’s storied stretch of downtown known as “the Strip.” As one ofthe busiest airports in the world, Harry Reid International offers a taste of what you’ll find in downtown Las Vegas itself, with a wide selection of restaurants, shopping and even a number of slot machines stationed throughout the passenger terminals.

With world-famous nightlife and theme casinos like Paris and New York-New York, Las Vegas no doubt has a reputation as a playground for adults. But thanks to a wide variety of entertainment options, from theatrical productions to magic shows, amusement parks and rides, the city can also be a family-friendly destination.

Las Vegas’ signature pastime is of course gambling. And it’s the city’s single-largest revenue producer, even ahead of its hotels, restaurants and nightclubs. There are no shortage of places to gamble throughout the city, starting from moments after your flight touches down. Whether your game is blackjack, poker, roulette or slots, you’re sure to find a seat at the table.

You can catch a show in Las Vegas at any time of day or night, whether you’re looking to be entertained by singers, dancers, magic or more. And thanks to entertainment like Cirque du Soleil and the Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage, there are sights to dazzle young senses as well. Many casinos offer free shows in addition to high-end, world class magic and music revues.

FOOD AND RESTAURANTS

A ticket to Las Vegas also means a ticket to one of the country’s best food scenes. These days, it’s moved well beyond the $1 buffet. Although those old school deals can still be found, the real culinary action is in hole-in-the-wall ethnic eateries and signature, destination restaurants from some of the finest chefs on the planet.

Check out Aria’s Bar Masa, which serves some of the best sushi you’ll ever find in the middle of the desert. Want a more traditional steakhouse experience? The Mandalay Bay’s StripSteak is 18 ounces of dry-aged bone-in Kobe rib eye. And for the ultimate culinary experience plus star treatment, book a table at Joel Robuchon’s three-star Michelin restaurant and schedule a prix-fixe dinner with roundtrip limo service.

POOLS AND SPAS

Proper attire in Las Vegas at some point most certainly includes a bathing suit. This oasis in the desert boasts pools and spas around every turn. Whether you’re looking to party, sunbathe, gamble or max out, there are countless spots to do it poolside. And of course if you’d rather soak or swim, you can do that too.

And when the sun goes down and the lights on the Strip come up, the Vegas see-and-be-seen atmosphere is at its height. Check out the action -and the people -at places like XS at Encore, the Venetian’s Tao, and Hard Rock’s Vanity, where a cyclone chandelier lit by more than 20,000 crystals pulses above the dance floor.

You’ve got tickets to Las Vegas, but now you’re wondering what to pack. Well, you’re in luck, because the weather is generally predictable and pleasant. With an average of 310 sunny days per year, rainfall is limited and bright sunshine is generally in abundance. Though the summer months are hot, with an average daytime high of 104.2°F in July, the winters are short and mild with the average December highs in the mid-50s°F.

Flights from Vancouver to Las Vegas are some of the cheapest options in 2024. Here's how to book with Flair Airlines and WestJet using Google Flights.

Travellers can find one-way, direct flights from Vancouver to Las Vegas for under $100 - but a return flight from Sin City is even cheaper.

Las Vegas, known as the "City of Sin," brings together people from across the globe in the spirit of fun. It's the place where people spend their last days as singletons before a wedding, or simply the place to go when you need to dust off your dancing shoes and unwind.

  • Related: Everything Vancouver travellers need to know about visiting Las Vegas

While it's most widely known as a gambling mecca, Nevada's biggest city is home to a vast array of entertainment and dining options, welcoming some of the world's biggest performers to its stages year-round.

Flair Airlines offers the lowest price on the popular route connecting Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and Harry Reid International Airport (LAS), with multiple options for flights under $200 round-trip.

Cheap flights from Vancouver to Las Vegas

One-way flights from Las Vegas to Vancouver start at just over $60 including tax on several dates, making the flight home about $30 cheaper than the outbound one.

For example, a flight from Las Vegas to Vancouver on Thursday, May 9 costs $61 while a flight from Vancouver to Las Vegas on Tuesday, May 7 costs $98 (see slides two and three for details).

To get the lowest price on a round-trip visit to Las Vegas, travellers must book the flights separately with Flair.

With two separate tickets, Flair's lowest-priced return options start at $159. WestJet's cheapest return tickets start at $193, while Air Canada's start at over $400 (see slide four).

These prices are considered "low" for the route. The least expensive flights for return trips from Vancouver to Las Vegas typically cost $365 to $1,400, according to Google Flights.

These Are The Airlines That Fly From Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport's Terminal 3

Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) in Las Vegas consistently appears in the top 10 busiest airports in the US in terms of passenger numbers, and last year, the airport processed more than 57.6 million passengers, marking its busiest year on record. The airport has a total of 110 gates spread across two passenger terminals - Terminal 1 and Terminal 3.

Terminal 3 was designed to replace the aging Terminal 2, and although construction work began in 2006, it was not until 2012 that it actually opened. At a total cost of $2.4 billion, it was one of the largest public building works ever completed in the state of Nevada. Terminal 3 is over half a mile long, and to account for potential seismic activity in the area, its length was split into six segments using isolation joints.

The airport's two terminals and their respective concourses are connected by airside trams - the network consists of three lines, which are collectively known as the Harry Reid International Airport Automated People Movers. The Green and Blue Lines date back to 1985 and 1998, respectively, while the newer Red Line was inaugurated as part of the new Terminal 3 some 12 years ago. This connects Terminal 3 to Concourse D, where a further 26 passenger gates are available.

Harry Reid International Airport is an operating base for Allegiant Air, Frontier Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and Spirit Airlines. Which other carriers have a presence at the airport, and in particular, at Terminal 3?

Domestic operations from Terminal 3

With one of the busiest airport operations in the US, it is no surprise that Las Vegas is well-served from many cities and towns across the country. The three largest domestic markets from Harry Reid International Airport last year were Los Angeles (LAX), Denver (DEN), and Seattle (SEA), accounting for more than two million passengers between them last year.

The airlines operating domestic flights from Terminal 3 are:

  • Alaska Airlines
  • Breeze Airways
  • Frontier Airlines
  • Hawaiian Airlines
  • Sun County Airlines
  • United Airlines

Frontier Airlines has the largest domestic presence in Terminal 3, and last year carried more than 4.6 million passengers to and from Harry Reid International Airport. The carrier currently serves 26 destinations, including Austin (AUS), Orlando (MCO), and San Francisco (SFO), and this number will grow to 28 later this year when Frontier Airlines resumes flights to Chicago (ORD) and commences service to Los Angeles (LAX).

United Airlines connects Las Vegas with its hubs across the country, including Houston (IAH), Newark (EWR), and Washington (IAD). Meanwhile, JetBlue operates transcontinental flights to Boston (BOS), New York (JFK), and Fort Lauderdale (FLL). Hawaiian Airlines operates up to three daily flights to Honolulu (HNL) using the Airbus A330-200.

International operations from Terminal 3

Las Vegas is well-connected to most major Canadian cities thanks to Air Canada, Porter Airlines, WestJet, Flair Airlines, and Canada Jetlines. The city is a popular vacation spot for those coming from Canada, particularly throughout the winter months. In a sign of that popularity, Air Canada deployed its Boeing 787-9 widebody aircraft last winter between Toronto (YYZ) and LAs Vegas.

London is the second-largest international market from Harry Reid International Airport (after Toronto), with more than 370,000 passengers making the trip last year. UK flag carrier British Airways serves both London Heathrow (LHR) and London Gatwick (LGW), and will soon go head-to-head with Norse Atlantic Airways on the latter when the low-cost long-haul carrier begins flying the route on September 12.

Feeling Lucky? Norse Atlantic Schedules Las Vegas Flights From London Gatwick Airport

Virgin Atlantic flies from Las Vegas to its hub at London Heathrow on a daily basis with the Boeing 787-9s. The carrier will also begin seasonal service to Manchester (MAN) on June 2 with its leisure-configured Airbus A350-1000s. These aircraft can accommodate just 16 passengers in business class, 56 in premium economy, and 325 in economy class.

Other European services from Harry Reid International Airport (shown in the image below) include Condor and Discover Airlines to Frankfurt (FRA), KLM to Amsterdam (AMS), and Edelweiss (to Zurich). Korean Air operates what is currently the airport's only service to Asia, with five-weekly flights to Seoul (ICN) using the Boeing 777-300ER.

Aeromexico, Viva Aerobus, and Volaris connect Las Vegas with three destinations in Mexico - Guadalajara (GDL), Mexico City (MEX), and Monterrey (MTY). Mexico City was the third-busiest international route from the airport last year, with more than 350,000 passengers.

Thanks to Copa Airlines, Harry Reid International Airport is connected to much of Central and South America. The carrier operates daily flights to its hub at Tocumen International Airport (PTY) using the Boeing 737 MAX 9, from where passengers can connect to destinations as far away as Buenos Aires (EZE), Santiago de Chile (SCL), and Rio de Janeiro (GIG).

That leaves Terminal 1 to the three largest operators at Harry Reid International Airport. Terminal 1 is the home of Southwest Airlines, with the low-cost carrier occupying a 39% market share at the airport. This puts it some way ahead of second-placed Spirit Airlines (16%) and third-placed Delta Air Lines (9%). The other carriers operating at Terminal 1 are American Airlines, Allegiant Air, and Avelo Airlines.

Seasonal direct flight from SLO to Las Vegas comes to an end April 15

flight trip to las vegas

On April 15, the test run for the direct flight from the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport to Las Vegas will come to an end.

On December 15, the seasonal flight was offered to the region resulting in a short, nearly hour-long flight that Courtney Pene, the Deputy Director of Airports, Planning and Outreach for SLO County, said was well-received.

“It's been a very popular route. Residents have loved going to Las Vegas with such ease and convenience and continue to travel on from Las Vegas to other parts of the country and our world,” Pene said.

The airport found that the Vegas flight had a 70% load factor, the percentage of available seats an airline has been able to sell on its flights during the given four-month period. In short, it wasn’t the most popular flight but still did well in its seasonal offering.

“Our partnership with Alaska Airlines is very strong," Pene said. "We're hopeful that we will see positive outcome and we are hopeful that the flight will return.”

“I believe there's enough people in this area to sustain a good flight like that to Vegas. I think it's a wonderful idea,” said local resident Ron Rinell.

Former pilot and retired local resident Tom Head has flown the route and driven it many times and he prefers flying with a drive from San Luis Obispo taking up to seven hours or more depending on traffic.

“It's fast. You barely get up. You get a cup of coffee and you're landing already. It's a quick flight. It's easy,” he said.

However, the main concern was the cost of a round-trip ticket which a quick search revealed to hover around $400.

“The price is kind of high," Head said. "But when you stop and really think about it, you drive your car — that's still an expense. You got to pay for parking. It's a hassle. I think it's a good deal.”

While the test run of the flight still has to be evaluated, the airport is encouraged that Las Vegas could be a potential permanent direct flight and is hopeful the partnership with Alaska Airlines will lend itself to make that happen.

Looking ahead, the airport is expanding its daily flights:

  • American Airlines will launch a second daily flight to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport beginning May 7.
  • Alaska Airlines will add a second daily flight to San Diego International Airport on May 16.

Top 5 airlines serving from detroit to las vegas.

Wifi wasn’t working well so we couldn't view any media.

Food service was bare-bone. Better bot to have any at all rather than hand out premade coffees and cookies to random few passengers.

Had assistance at airport getting from arrivals gate to departure gate; I couldn't have managed without that extra help. Thank you Delta.

They charge me for the luggage which is was included on the ticket

More space in the cabin. The guy in front of me leaned his seat back and I felt he was sitting in my lap.

Was a great smooth flight from Detroit to San Diego.

Late flight, always blaming the flight crew, stale almonds, pushy people. Why don’t they have the people sitting in the back board first? So much easier getting through an empty plane! Duh!!

As we lined up to board they gave our plane to a flight going to Newark. So then we got delayed until they could find another plane. Flight crew was ok. I’m assuming since it’s a shorter flight they only offered water and coffee.

Food could have been better. A little more leg room would have been appreciated.

Seats not assigned during check-in and got last non-reclining seats next to rest room :-(

The delays (5 hrs) were a comedy of errors, and the multiple safety issues encountered were very concerning.

flight delays, staff only communicating when pushed, food service lasting a grand total of 7 minutes, stuck in seat from 45mins into flight until landing

Crew was great and did their best to make us comfortable and captain came out at the beginning to announce why the flight was delayed, weather situation up ahead, and kept us updated throughout the flight.

they made me check my carryon. There was space in the overhead bins.

Nice flight, nice crew but no cookie or napkin with my seltzer.

Trip was smooth bumpy from the wind but no issues at all the crew attendant was very pleasant and had great customer service

This was a Lufthansa flight. Disappointing main meal. Very rough over Canada and arrival at FRA. IFE was almost unusable.

It got me where I needed it to; not much more. It had no competition so that was why I chose it.

I liked everything about the flight. The service was excellent!

The customer service was excellent! Check-in, baggage check-in, boarding, the flight went very smooth.

Plane took off without me, my stepdad and a dozen other passengers. It went from an hour delay to boarding in 15 montures without notifying anyone. Names were not called overhead. Now I’m missing a day of work and stuck in Charolette overnight paying for a hotel and Ubers out of pocket

I arrived to the airport 2 hours before my American Airlines flight was scheduled to take off. I have TSA pre-check. The airport was crazy packed when I arrived. After momentarily standing in the pre-check line, the TSA agent said that I am not pre-check. Of course I said that I am because I entered my KTN number on all my traveling sites and programs. I had to get out of line and go back to the AA counter to discover that American Airlines did not add my KTN to my boarding pass. I had to call TSA to find out my number, then have AA enter it onto my boarding pass. The emblem would not load onto my boarding pass. By this time, I decided to use my Clear in order to get through TSA but the line was ridiculous long. By the time I made through TSA, I missed my 11:08am flight and was re-booked for the 5:30pm. This is after the AA employee told me I should have gotten to the airport early. AA use to be a dependable airline not I use them only if I have too.

Average - flew with Jet Blue internal and it was far more comfortable and better food and entertainment. Notable difference

Flight from SBP to DFW 1. They rerouted us through PHX 2. Delayed flight out of SBP for 3 hrs so we missed our connection Downgrade on rerouted flight. Back of the plane, center seats, didn't sit together 4. Return flight out of DFW same exact thing. Delayed, missed connection, Downgrade + they lost our luggage! A complete mess.

On the new 319 NEO? seatback entertainment system did not work even when the flight attendant rebooted it. At least I had my cell phone to connect with wifi.

Good flights. Departure and arrivals were on time. DFW was a little problematic in that the Skytrain without prior notice bypassed the Echo terminal so that delayed my arrival at my connecting flight.

Do not eat the bagel! Otherwise, good albeit late, breakfast in first. Boarding downgrade only because flight was delayed due to plane change due to undisclosed problem with original aircraft. I did not use entertainment.

Because I can’t stand very long in one place, I was allowed to reword.

It was a good flight. Of course it was full, but it went well.

Overall the flights pretty good. The snacks we’re good and they were plenty of them. Both boarding and deplaning went quickly.

Kayak does not know that spirit airlines charged me $70 to fly. But the bag check-in was $89 each way. This is false advertising to lure people. Spirit airlines sends bunch of emails after flight purchases to buy wifi, better seats, priority boarding, secure reserved seats. This is false advertising. Up front pricing. I would of flown jet blue or Alaska airlines.

Every interaction the airline seems to want to find a different way to extract more money from you. The second leg of our journey they wouldn't let us board the plane without taking another $99 for a bag we asked about at the ticket counter and boarded with on the first leg of our journey. Horrible airline, poor culture. Not flying Spirit again.

Didn’t make the connecting flight due to a delay on our first flight.

I felt scam to have to pay $50 additional for my carry on luggage which was free for my other airline.

No basic services such as water, snacks. Internet very expensive. Seats were very small, hard and uncomfortable. Alaskan Airlines, my outbound flight to Boise from Orlando, offered beverage service, a snack, and reasonable priced internet, for the same price as my return trip on Spirit. It had more comfortable seating also.

Awful experience. Both flights were delayed several times with weather but also crew members being the official cause. The vouchers are unusable and insufficient ($50 voucher to fly the same crappy airline is a joke for putting me on a red-eye that landed at 3:00 am). The aircrafts were old and uncomfortable (have a real pocket on the seat, for crying out loud!).

The staff at the counter were very rude and unprofessional

Lower price not worth it. Delayed missed connection. Would have taken 24 hours to get to Atlanta. No takes your vouchers making them useless. Never again.

Horrible. Delay after delay. People yelling and making obseen gestures!

Overall good for being my first time flying with spirit

Not have to pay for every single item to take a flight. Seating and delays sucked.

Flight was cancelled and I had to spend the night in the airport lugging my suitcase around

If you don’t check in 24 hours in advance, they will charge you $110 to check your bag instead of the $30. I did not get an email with this information and did not check in. In addition, my flight home was cancelled at layover and I had to spend the night in the airport, and then have another layover at another airport before making it home. Will not fly frontier again.

Terrible. Seats are bad and the baggage policy is inconsistent

Flight delayed 3 times, resulting in late arrival, rental car place gave car away resulting in increased BS charges because I was late. Frontier blows.

I paid for extra leg room. The flimsy plastic seat underneath the floatation seat did not line up with the arm rests. It seemed as if the plastic part was zip tied on but immovable. This caused severe uncomfortable for the duration of the flight.

Left Denver late, then sat on tarmac 30 min after arrival

Better than I expected but I did pay for a seat and carry on bags ahead of time.

Crew members are very rude and not cooperate with passengers.

30 minute delay due to boarding and settling of a family.
