This flight is always a cramped bus. The gate area was inadequate and announcements were hard to hear. The flight was delayed 45 minutes to an hour by a broken aircraft door, making our total delay from Vilnius 5 hours.

Our flight to Chicago O'Hare was delayed an hour, causing us to miss our connection to MSP and spend an extra 3 hours at O'Hare so we could board a plane with a damaged door and wait another 45 minutes or so. The crew was great, the food decent, The drinks were great: 2 glasses of a nice South African Shiraz, an ice cold can of Beck's Beer, and Dewar's White Label on the rocks.

A350 has great entertainment. Make sure to watch the plane's external tail and nose camera's on landing and take off. Seats were a little hard for a 10 hour flight. I am gluten intolerant, they had good alternative meals for me on the flight.

If you are traveling to mumbai -- must try SFO - MUM direct flight. It's a game changer when you are traveling to India. Timings are well designed, optimal and makes the travel enjoyable.

One of my worst experiences. Nothing was working in the flight. Entertainment system was broken, seat was very uncomfortable, crew did not offer water until food was provided, lights were not working, attendant call was not working. In short everything was broken and duct taped.

I was traveling business purposes and I only had one carry on and a personal computer back pack . My carry on was 8.5 kg little more than allowable. At jfk airport check in they did not let me carry it . I was little disappointed.

More leg room and comfortable seats at least for long flights

The entertainment selections are amazing. But the live TV is sometimes spotty. If you’re going to have it, then have it. If you can’t make it consistent, then, perhaps it’s better not to have it. The crew are always cordial when approached, but they seem to do the minimum and sit around, talking to each other in the back of the plane during the flight. I realize that delays are not always predictable, but I missed my flight in Dubai because we left 90 minutes late from Washington. I will say that Emirates took very good care of me in Dubai. But I would rather not be delayed.

Probably the best flight I’ve ever been on. Emirates first class is leagues beyond British airways and Lufthansa’s.

Serving food took so long . Almost time close to lend. Plus during landing air pressure in cabin cuss ear blocked took long time to unblock.

Emirates is usually on time, but not this trip. Also, during the flight the attendants disappear unless called upon. Very strange. I have watched the quality of Emirates service diminish over the last five years.

Over all not happy flying in Emirates airlines this time. Seats are very small and not comfortable. Seats looks like very very old and congested. It would be nice if they fix these kind of issues. Good range of movies but lacking decent tv shows. Wifi was really expensive on this flight, considering flights under 7 hours have a $9.99 USD charge for streaming, to jump up to $24.99 for a 7 hour 40 flight seemed a little bit of a rip off. Staff are inattentive, and really need to improve on the customer experience.

One thing is very important is you people not giving seat arrangement together to couple, senior citizen. You have to take care of senior citizen. Do not look about money. Money is not important everywhere. Make relationship strong is very very important. I like Etiyad air line out of all air line. Food was hot and delicious. Entertainment did not work from flight from Abu Dhabi to Kolkata. Emirates has a much better flight in that sector.

Food was very good. Again tray could use a non-skid mat. I had a regular seat - comfortable - able to sleep undisturbed. Boarding was uneventful.

Boarding was quick and efficient. Ground staff were pleasant and courteous. Food was tasty, portions were good for me. Food containers kept slipping on the tray. Tray would look better with an anti-skid tray mat. I had the bulkhead seat which was very uncomfortable for couple of reasons. Aircraft is designed with no throughput to move across aisle to aisle. Passengers kept jumping over my legs to get from one side to the other to use the toilet. Secondly I had a mother and 9 month baby next to me. Mom had to hold baby for 12 hours in her lap as he did not fit into the bassinet. Half the baby was on my lap during the flight. Aircraft temperature was very cold - light attendant said it was the central cooling and nothing could be done about it. Movie selection was very poor old and outdated.

Crew member took too long time to take back leftover food plates from passenger seats. Food was nice.Easy excellent checking.Guy at checking counter was really kind and helpful.Made our checking very quickly. Leftover food should be taken back ASAP. Horrible crowding on the seats, headphones provided did not fit or work in the entertainment center, seriously the most uncomfortable flight I have taken in a LONG time. The people in front of me were literally 5 inches from my face the entire flight. Did they change their seats recently? I remember it being tight but wow this was a whole new level. Also I am a 5'3" small woman so I can't even imagine a larger person dealing with that for 11 hrs.

Seat controls of lights were broken, and only 1 of the 2 seat TVs ever worked on the long flight. On the short flight there were no USB connections, on the long one they were difficult to access. Part of my meal was frozen, though the hot portion was good.

Lufthansa fails at mentioning no luggage when booking through points. We had to pay added fees to take checked bags to Europe for 2 weeks. The staff at check in were not helpful at all. told us "if we don't like it, then book another flight". Food was bad, they ran out of half the options. Vegetarian was terrible. The flight crew was nice, and tried to make it work ok.

My school age daughter was not sat near me. We left almost an hour late. Therefore arriving late and missing another flight. Since it was not a connecting flight there was nothing Lufthansa could do about it. After the selay in take off and arrival we waited almost an hour for baggage claim. There was zero concern for my inconvenience. I asked if we could insure being seated together on the return. They stated no because we booked through Kayak. I typically love Lufthansa. This was very disappointing.

This flight is always a cramped bus. The gate area was inadequate and announcements were hard to hear. The flight was delayed 45 minutes to an hour by a broken aircraft door, making our total delay from Vilnius 5 hours.

Everything! To start with, seats, food tray table, entertainment console all are broken! Imposing duty free baggage fees for $250 as a surprise penalty cannot be appreciated! Airlines should be responsible for transferring the checked baggages to the connecting flight. Having customer go through the transfer is painful considering the travel tiredness! Lot of things AIR INDIA needs to improve. Poor service for wheelchair. Crew has improved after TATA took over, yet there are some crew who are still live in old mindset . Throughout the journey we have faced number of issues. For example , my wife boarding pas was issued in some other passenger's name which put us in problem. When AIR INDIA at San Franscisco later issued correct boarding pass, they did not change tag on checked in bag with correct name, This led to hold on of our checked bag. They moved us here and there to get our bag. Food was dried.eg. Rice plate was hot but it rice were dried. Once, I was not given my food even upto all completed their dish. It was given after reminders and when I got later some items were missing. Wheelchair service is poor. The wheelchair carriers ask money at every stage, not only that but they demand more money. How can they ask money from old, aged citizens and disabled persons. This is absolutely nonsense. Even I did not get my checked in bag at Vadodara Airport, it is still missing. They have not given me copy of complaint, only they registered complaint. I also got my one checked bag in damaged condition. There are different issues at different locations which I do not want to highlight. So overall service is poor.

Food was ok. Crew were good. Tv and outlets weren't working at all so nothing to watch and no way to charge devices on a 17 1/2 hr flight. That was not great. Bathrooms were dirty and smelled terrible. Also my multi tool was stolen out of my checked suitcase.

Solar eclipse maps show 2024 totality path, peak times and how much of the eclipse you can see across the U.S.

A total solar eclipse crosses North America on April 8, 2024, with parts of 15 U.S. states within the path of totality. Maps show where and when astronomy fans can see the big event . 

The total eclipse will first appear along Mexico's Pacific Coast at around 11:07 a.m. PDT, then travel across a swath of the U.S., from Texas to Maine, and into Canada.

About 31.6 million people live in the path of totality , the area where the moon will fully block out the sun , according to NASA. The path will range between 108 and 122 miles wide. An additional 150 million people live within 200 miles of the path of totality.

Solar eclipse path of totality map for 2024

The total solar eclipse will start over the Pacific Ocean, and the first location in continental North America that will experience totality is Mexico's Pacific Coast, around 11:07 a.m. PDT on April 8, according to NASA. From there, the path will continue into Texas, crossing more than a dozen states before the eclipse enters Canada in southern Ontario. The eclipse will exit continental North America around 5:16 p.m. NDT from Newfoundland, Canada.

The path of totality includes the following states:

• Pennsylvania
• New Hampshire

Small parts of Tennessee and Michigan will also experience the total solar eclipse.

Several major cities across the U.S. are included in the eclipse's path of totality, while many others will see a partial eclipse. Here are some of the best major cities for eclipse viewing — if the weather cooperates :

• San Antonio, Texas (partially under the path)
• Austin, Texas
• Waco, Texas
• Dallas, Texas
• Little Rock, Arkansas
• Indianapolis, Indiana
• Dayton, Ohio
• Cleveland, Ohio
• Buffalo, New York
• Rochester, New York
• Syracuse, New York
• Burlington, Vermont

The eclipse will begin in the U.S. on the afternoon of April 8. It will first be visible as a partial eclipse beginning at 12:06 p.m. CDT near Eagle Pass, Texas, before progressing to totality by about 1:27 p.m. CDT and progressing along its path to the northeast over the next few hours.

NASA shared times for several cities in the path of totality across the U.S. You can also  check your ZIP code on NASA's map  to see when the eclipse will reach you if you're on, or near, the path of totality. 

How much of the eclipse will you see if you live outside of the totality path?

While the April 8 eclipse will cover a wide swath of the U.S., outside the path of totality observers may spot a partial eclipse, where the moon covers some, but not all, of the sun, according to NASA. The closer you are to the path of totality, the larger the portion of the sun that will be hidden.

NASA allows viewers to input a ZIP code and see how much of the sun will be covered in their location.

Could there be cloud cover be during the solar eclipse?

Some areas along the path of totality have a higher likelihood of cloud cover that could interfere with viewing the eclipse. Here is a map showing the historical trends in cloud cover this time of year.

Where will the solar eclipse reach totality for the longest?

Eclipse viewers near Torreón, Mexico, will get to experience totality for the longest. Totality there will last 4 minutes, 28 seconds, according to NASA. 

Most places along the centerline of the path of totality will see a totality duration between 3.5 and 4 minutes long, according to NASA. Some places in the U.S. come close to the maximum; Kerrville, Texas, will have a totality duration of 4 minutes, 24 seconds.

What is the path of totality for the 2044 solar eclipse?

After the April 8 eclipse, the next total solar eclipse that will be visible from the contiguous U.S. will be on Aug. 23, 2044.

Astronomy fans in the U.S. will have far fewer opportunities to see the 2044 eclipse than the upcoming one on April 8. NASA has not yet made maps available for the 2044 eclipse, but, according to The Planetary Society , the path of totality will only touch three states.

The 2024 eclipse will start in Greenland, pass over Canada and end as the sun sets in Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota, according to the Planetary Society.

Why mild East Coast earthquakes are felt over such long distances

Did you feel that?

It wasn't just folks in Western New Jersey who were texting "what was that?" messages in the mid-morning Friday. People as far away as Maryland and Upstate New York reported feeling an earthquake, according to the US Geological Survey . A former CNN editor in Vermont said glasses fell off her shelf.

How is that possible, considering it was just a mild 4.8 magnitude earthquake, not enough to cause any significant damage?

The rock formations that make up America's East Coast are considerably older than those on the West Coast — hundreds of millions of years older, according to the USGS . That makes them much denser.

Imagine putting your left hand down on a piece of slate and knocking on it with your right hand. You'd feel that. That's like how the East Coast is formed.

But now imagine putting your hand down on a pebble driveway and knocking — not so much. That's the West Coast. So even though earthquakes tend to be much stronger in the western part of the country, they're not felt nearly as far away as weaker quakes in the East.

Rail service is being slowed in the Northeast due to the earthquake

Train service is being slowed after the 4.8 magnitude earthquake that rattled the Northeast this morning.

Amtrak said started inspecting its tracks shortly after 11 a.m. ET, and put speed restrictions in place throughout the region until those inspections were complete.

New Jersey Transit said there would be up to 20-minute delays in both directions due to bridge inspections after the quake.

Newark Light Rail service was suspended system-wide, according to NJ Transit. The River Line Light Rail service, meanwhile, was suspended in both directions between the Waterfront Entertainment Center and Trenton due to track inspections.

NOW: New York governor holds news briefing on earthquake

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is holding a news briefing at the State Capitol following this morning’s earthquake.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams and other city administration officials will hold a separate news briefing to discuss the impacts of the earthquake at 12 p.m. ET, according to his spokesperson.

New York governor says her team is assessing any impacts from quake

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said her team will be assessing any impact and any damage that may have resulted from the earthquake that struck New Jersey on Friday.

On X , Hochul said, “A 4.8 magnitude earthquake hit west of Manhattan and has been felt throughout New York. Hochul will hold a press briefing soon on the earthquake at the State Capitol, according to a notification from her office.

Philadelphia police aware of reports of seismic activity and urge people not to call 911 unless of emergency

Philadelphia Police have asked people to only call 911 if they are reporting an emergency, following Friday's 4.8 magnitude earthquake in New Jersey.

Philadelphia Gov. Josh Shapiro added in a tweet that the earthquake was felt in parts of Pennsylvania.

"My team and @PEMAHQ are actively monitoring the situation and in contact with counties on any damage. We will keep Pennsylvanians updated," he said.

Biden has been briefed on earthquake, White House says

President Joe Biden has been briefed on Friday’s earthquake , according to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. 

Jean-Pierre  posted on social media  that the president is “in touch with his team who are monitoring potential impacts.” She added that the White House is in “touch with federal, state, and local officials as we learn more."

NYPD transit chief says no reports of structural damage to transit system following earthquake

There are no reports of damage to New York City's transit system following this morning's earthquake, New York City Police Department Chief of Transit Michael M. Kemper said.

Kemper said he has been briefed by his team regarding the earthquake felt across parts of the Northeast.

“There are no current reports of any structural damage and/or service disruptions to the NYC Transit system as a result,”  he said . “That said, our team is continuing to survey all lines & stations and we will keep you updated.”

No major incidents following earthquake, New York City Fire Department says

The New York City Fire Department said there are no major incidents it is responding to at this time, in the aftermath of the New Jersey earthquake.

An FDNY spokesperson told CNN that around 10:30 a.m. ET, FDNY received reports of shaking buildings.

“We are responding to calls and evaluating structural stability. There are no major incidents at this time. We will continue to monitor," the spokesperson added.

Northeast earthquake is disrupting air travel

A 4.8 magnitude earthquake in the Northeast is impacting air travel.  

The Federal Aviation Administration said flights to the New York Kennedy, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Newark airports were being held.  

The air traffic control tower at Newark Liberty airport is being evacuated, a controller said in a radio transmission after the earthquake. That meant the flights were being held while controllers moved to an alternate location.  

"Nobody's going to go anywhere for the time being," a controller said over the radio frequency.  

The runways were in the process of being inspected for damage. Shortly after the earthquake, controllers at LaGuardia were still clearing flights for departure there.  

Federal Aviation Administration spokesperson Jeannie Shiffer calls the earthquake’s impact on air travel a “rapidly evolving situation.”

FAA will have to inspect runways at New York’s JFK and Newark airports before operations can resume.

UConn men's team arrives in Phoenix after flight to Final Four delayed by plane issues

The UConn Huskies ' men's basketball team has soared its way to the NCAA Tournament's Final Four in Phoenix, but the defending champions were grounded Wednesday night in Connecticut due to "mechanical issues."

UConn's flight to Phoenix ahead of their Final Four matchup against Alabama on Saturday was delayed "due to mechanical issues with the original aircraft," the NCAA confirmed Wednesday. The flight, which was originally supposed to depart Connecticut on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. ET, left at 1:30 a.m. ET and arrived in Phoenix at 5:14 a.m. ET (3:14 a.m. local time).

“Due to mechanical issues with the original aircraft, UConn men’s basketball team is experiencing a delay and is now projected to depart at approximately 11:30 p.m. ET," the NCAA said in a statement obtained by Stadium's Jeff Goodman. "In conjunction with the school and charter airlines, the NCAA worked to develop several options for travel alternatives to Phoenix. We are very disappointed that UConn will arrive later than anticipated and it’s unfortunate the team’s travel experience has been impacted.”

UConn men's basketball coach Dan Hurley told CBS Sports that the team's original chartered flight coming in from Kansas City was significantly delayed with mechanical issues, causing the flight crew to surpass their allowable work hours outlined by the FAA.

UConn has Final Four media availability and practice scheduled on Thursday, but it's not clear if the NCAA will modify the Huskies' schedule to accommodate for the team's late arrival. No. 1 seed UConn is looking to become the first team to win back-to-back championships since the Florida Gators, who won consecutive titles in 2006 and 2007.

The other three Final Four teams have landed in the desert. No. 1 seed Purdue and No. 4 seed Alabama both arrived in Phoenix on Tuesday, while NC State touched down on Wednesday afternoon. NC State vs. Purdue are scheduled to play at 6:09 p.m. ET, followed by UConn and Alabama at 8:39 p.m.

A total solar eclipse is expected to pass through the United States on April 8, 2024, giving stargazers across the country the opportunity to view the celestial phenomenon in which the sun is completely covered by the moon.

The eclipse will enter the U.S. in Texas and exit in Maine. It is the last time a total solar eclipse will be visible in the contiguous United States until 2044.

Here's what to know about the path of the eclipse and where you can see it.

Where can you see the total solar eclipse?

The eclipse will cross through North America, passing over parts of Mexico, the United States, and Canada. 

The eclipse will enter the United States in Texas, and travel through Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Small parts of Tennessee and Michigan will also experience the total solar eclipse.

Much of the eclipse's visibility depends on the weather. A cloudy day could prevent visitors from seeing the spectacle altogether.

When does the solar eclipse start and end?

The solar eclipse will begin in Mexico’s Pacific coast at around 11:07 a.m. PDT. It will exit continental North America on the Atlantic coast of Newfoundland, Canada, at 5:16 p.m. NDT.

The longest duration of totality—which is when the moon completely covers the sun — will be 4 minutes, 28 seconds, near Torreón, Mexico. Most places along the path of totality will see a totality duration between 3.5 and 4 minutes.

Where’s the best place to see the total solar eclipse?

The best place to witness the event is along the path of totality. Thirteen states will be along the path of totality, and many towns across the country are preparing for the deluge of visitors— planning eclipse watch parties and events in the days leading up to totality.

In Rochester, NY, the Rochester Museum and Science Center is hosting a multi-day festival that includes a range of events and activities. Russellville, Arkansas will host an event with activities including live music, science presentations, tethered hot-air balloon rides, and telescope viewings.
