When: 12th October 2022 Location : SEC Armadillo
Will Young, British pop royalty has announced 2022 UK tour. Coming to Glasgow’s SEC Armadillo for one night only on 12th October 2022.
British pop royalty Will Young has announced a tour for autumn 2022. Bringing his new album Crying On The Bathroom Floor as well as his timeless hits to some of the UK’s most treasured venues.
In many ways Will Young is a symbol of a specific era in pop history. A turning point that ushered in the TV music competition that is today part and parcel of the cultural landscape. As the winner of the first ever Pop Idol in 2002, the wide-smiled and bright-eyed singer broke records when his double-single Evergreen / Anything Is Possible became the fastest selling debut single in UK chart history. But that Young remains a cherished household name. Now not only as a singer but as an actor, author and broadcaster. It is a testament to his earnestness and talent.
Growing up as a teenager in West Berkshire, Young was a talented athlete with a lot of sporting potential. However his interest in global affairs led him to study politics at university. It was here that he found his confidence. Performing in student theatre productions, and after graduating in 2001 enrolled in a musical theatre course at the Arts Educational School in West London. This was, however, soon cut short when Young successfully applied for the brand new TV talent show Pop Idol . Beating co-finalist Gareth Gates to victory with a rendition of The Doors’ Light My Fire. (which Cowell had previously described as “average”, much to Young’s polite defiance). Young was crowned the winner in early 2002.
His debut album, From Now On , released later that year, kept the momentum of his double single’s success and charted at No.1 in the UK. It was the follow-up Friday’s Child in 2003 that really seemed to make his mark. Featuring tracks such as Leave Right Now and Your Game , which won the 2005 BRIT Award for Best British single. The album would eventually become certified platinum five times over. Despite not reaching No.1, Young’s subsequent albums Keep On (2005) and Let It Go (2008) would still go on to achieve platinum status.
This time also saw Young return to his roots with acting, and featuring across film ( Mrs. Henderson Presents ). As well as television ( Skins ) and theatre ( The Vortex ). Later, in 2012, he would even make his West End debut as Emcee in Cabaret. Impressing critics and scooping a nomination for the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical.
Dipping his toe back into the world of reality TV, in 2008 Young featured as a guest singer and mentor on The X Factor. At the end of the decade performed on American Idol. This opened him up to a new audience on the other side of the Atlantic. Whilst at home a greatest hits collection was already in circulation.
A Night With Will Young aired in August 2011 to coincide with the release of the singer’s fifth studio album, Echoes. It featured the dance-pop hit Jealousy . His next LP, 85% Proof , was his first with Island Records, having previously left RCA, and dealt with personal acceptance through the lenses of dramatic piano ballads ( Brave Man ), upbeat soul ( Love Revolution ) and atmospheric anthems ( Joy ).
Despite falling out of love with the popstar life for a little while, as he focused on his podcast Homo Sapiens and other creative pursuits, in 2019 Young reconnected with trusted collaborators and friends Richard X and Eg White to create Lexicon . Always a multi-tasker, 2020 saw the publication of his first book, How To Be A Gay Man. In which he explores his journey to coming out and proudly embracing his sexuality.
In 2021 Young released Crying On The Bathroom Floor, a cover album paying homage to some of his favourite female artists, from Bat For Lashes to Robyn.

Will Young (born January 20, 1979) is a British pop singer-songwriter who hit the UK mainstream following his high-profile win of the first “Pop Idol” music contest series, hailing from Wokingham, Berkshire, England.
Born ten minutes earlier than his twin brother Rupert in Wokingham, Berkshire in 1979, Young’s debut stage performance came at the age of four, playing the role of a fir tree in a school play. The singer’s interest in performance continued throughout university where he landed the role of Curly for the theatre group’s production of “Oklahoma!”. During his second year of university in 1999 Will Young send an audition tape to the producers of a new musical talent show, however ended up in an unsuccessful boy band alongside Lee Ryan, Declan Bennet and Danielle Barnett.
Two years later Young applied for the another talent contest, the then unheard-of “Pop Idol”. Putting his studies at the Arts Education School in Chiswick, London on hold, Young went on to become the first ever winner of the talent contest in 2001. The following year the household singer released his debut album “From Now On”, which rose to No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart, selling close to 200,000 copies in its first week. Led by the singles “Anything Is Possible/Evergreen”, “Light My Fire”, and “The Long and Winding Road” / “Suspicious Minds”,
Expanding his fan base and popularity further, the singer’s sophomore studio album “Friday’s Child”, followed in 2003, later earning five-times platinum certification. The record spawned the Top Five singles “Leave Right Now”, “Your Game”, “Friday’s Child” and paved the way for his third full-length “Keep On” in 2005.
Three years later Young issued his fourth studio album “Let It Go”, following which the singer was propelled to the American mainstream when his single “Leave Right Now” was performed on “American Idol”. An exclusive American EP “Leave Right Now” was subsequently compiled, however failed to make many waves and Young returned his focus to the UK. Following a tour alongside Sophie Ellis Bextor in early 2011, Young released his sixth album “Echoes”, led by the Top 10 singles “Jealously”. After departing RCA/Sony in 2012, the singer signed with Island Records and released his debut with the label, “85% Proof”, in 2015.
Live reviews
When it comes to pop music I seem to have a special attraction to British artists. Will Young is one of those artists; the first time I heard him perform I needed to hear more and above all I needed to see him perform live.
I first heard him sing an acoustic version of Jealousy and I had goose bumps from start to finish.Do not look for a lot of flash and fanfare, as with a lot of pop performers these days, but instead look for pure music that moves you just as it is moving the artist.
You can see the emotion that Will is feeling, you know he is getting into each and every lyric even though he may have sung the song hundreds of times. I have seen Will perform in London and while he had an orchestra playing in the background, they did not overshadow his vocal performance but instead gave a smoothing rhythmic sound that kept the audience mesmerized on Will, especially as he sung “I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know”, and yes by the end of the song I was truly mesmerized.
I cannot wait to see what this young man has coming up next and I hope to be front and center at another performance soon.

So disappointed, I bought tickets for my two friends as a gift and Will was on stage for 1 hour and 10 minutes. We were looking forward to the concert as I had seen him a few years ago in the O2 Academy and the show lasted much longer than last night. Will's voice was very good but the duration of the show was such a disappointment that I would not buy tickets for another of his concerts. I feel that we did not get value for money. In the advert for the show it stated that it would end at 10.30 and he left the stage at 10.05!!

Will Young was fantastic. He sang so many of his hits to an appreciative audience who were standing most of the time. His voice is sublime and although singing for 1hour 45 mins never ever lost his pitch perfect tone. He is also so funny
and kept his audience so entertained. His band was also brilliant. This was a wonderful evening and l did not want it to end. His energy was unbelievable. A truly great artist
The perfect Will Young. Beautiful voice, superb songs. I was surprised the new album didn’t feature more heavily, but I was with friends who were happy it was back catalogue heavy. There was no encore, but he could have come out for a dozen and still we would have wanted more. He surprised us with his outfits and made us laugh, and love him more. Please come back soon Will
What an amazing concert. Will's voice was absolutely incredible, just so smooth, then on the up beat numbers how could anyone sit still in their seats. I just hope we don't have to wait too long before his next tour. Also if you haven't bought his new CD go out and buy it,it will have you bopping around the kitchen/living room in no time _ it is certainly one of his best.
Just back from seeing Will in concert at Liverpool Philharmonic he was absolutely fabulous his voice is amazing and I just hope I don't have to wait too long before his next tour. An absolutely fabulous evening - thank you Will please come back to Liverpool soon xxxxxx
Unfortunately due to the bad weather, torrential rain together with lightening on Friday night we never got to see or hear Will Young! The concert was cancelled before he came on stage, we were all very disappointed.
An amazing night with the soooooo talented Mr Young! Vocals totally on point and a wonderful cheeky sense of humour! Loved it! Would highly recommend anyone to go see him and have a fab night out!
Will was brilliant as usual but the mixing was wrong as the band were louder than his voice which was a pity. Apart from that it was a brilliant show but shorter than I have seen before.
My sister and I enjoyed the show very much. The first act was a good warm up and Will was great. The atmosphere was fantastic and the whole audience were enjoying it.

The terribly nice young Pop Idol graduate who has been one of the few to almost entirely shake the shackles of reality TV to emerge a solid popster in his own right.
Will Young has spent the last two decades at the forefront of pop after bursting onto the scene in 2002 as the original winner of Pop Idol. His expansive career has culminated in four #1 and two #2 chart topping albums, two BRIT Awards, four UK number one singles and hits including ‘Leave Right Now’, ‘Evergreen’ and ‘Jealousy’.
An acting career blossomed concurrently, with roles on stage and screen and presenting gigs on TV and radio, including regular cover for Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 2. Will’s most recent album Crying On The Bathroom Floor hit #3 in the UK album chart this year and his new book To Be A Gay Man is available now via Penguin Books.
