Taylor Swift's RED Tour

Taylor Swift's Red tour – review

Considering it was a two-hour show, the set list was lean, but then, there was a lot of talking to fit in. This was the first of five sold-out dates at the O2, and Taylor Swift discussed feelings and heartbreak and who to approach if you felt you were being bullied. She talked about London and her friends and complimented the 15,000-strong crowd on their galaxy of flashing signs. She asked, aw shucks, if she "Er, could get a picture with you guys?"

There's an internet meme called Taylor Swift Looking Surprised, which comes with a less-than-kind implication that there is somehow dishonesty or at least disingenuousness in her "who me?" humility. Certainly, tonight, Swift seems staggeringly nice. She's a consummate crowd pleaser, at one point even changing into a union jack T-shirt, as if trying to make friends with her location. But in an arena heaving with homemade T-shirts, banners with heavily felt-tipped messages such as "Taylor we're proud of you!" and awestruck girls silently mouthing every word to every song, it is difficult to be cynical. Swift is a professional big sister, and she's very good at it.

What's clear, too, is that she knows how to put on a show. There was little of the country ingenue left in this slick spectacular, other than the banjo inflections of Mean, but Swift appears to have found her feet as a pop star. You Belong With Me's soft-rock genesis received a girl-group makeover, adding to the occasional prom feel that peppered the night. I Knew You Were Trouble's dubstep rumble wobbled the rafters. The Lucky One was transported to the 1920s with a silent movie staging, its doo-wop backbone given a music hall twist. Dancers emerged from a toy box by way of Versailles. She changed costume repeatedly, even mid-song, whipping off her wedding dress in I Knew You Were Trouble (as she did at last year's Brits) to dance more freely in black lace and glittery boots.

Interestingly, Swift doesn't appear to be a natural mover. She does not possess the liquid flexibility of some of her arena-pop peers; she obviously puts her all into the choreography, but seems most at home when she's behind an instrument. In addition to the sparkles, which are truly fun, there are frequent reminders of the quality of the songcraft. All Too Well is transformed into a piano ballad that is genuinely wrenching and it's a welcome crack of vulnerability in the fixed-smile act. The audience was predominantly very young; this felt like a concession to their chaperones.

Throughout the Red tour, Swift has invited a guest on stage with her. Tonight it's the turn of "one of my best friends" Ed Sheeran, who wombles on to perform Lego House. It's another sign of that determined niceness that he gets to do one of his songs, rather than one of hers. And of course there's time for a story: Swift tells us how she heard it on the radio and knew instantly that she had to write with him, and the rest is history, etc etc.

After two hours, the ending, when it comes, is surprisingly punchy. There is no encore, just a celebratory We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, which explodes into a hail of streamers as 15,000 people attempt, somewhat jarringly, to sing along to the spoken words "Like, ever". Earlier, Swift had thanked the crowd "for deciding to hang out with me when there are a thousand other things you could be doing". The volume of the screams that see her off-stage suggest that niceness really does go a long way.

However, when Anthony Kiedis and co stepped on the stage, they didn't disappoint, playing a career-defining set showcasing tracks from across their career such as Californication , Give It Away , Can't Stop , Scar Tissue and current hit Black Summer .

Background [ ]

On October 25, 2012, in partnership with ABC News on the prime-time TV special All Access Nashville with Katie Couric – A Special Edition of 20/20, Swift announced that she would be launching a North American stadium and arena tour in early 2013 in support of her fourth studio album, Red . During a radio interview with WRVW, Swift mentioned that "It's nothing like any other tour before."

Swift told Billboard : "Of course, you know the tour will be a big representation of this record," Swift tells Billboard . "I'm so excited to see what songs the fans like the most and which ones jump to the forefront, because that's the first step. We always see which songs are really the passionate songs and the ones the fans are freaking out over the most, and those are the ones that are definitely in the set list. I can't wait for that."

Swift used Tom Petty's " American Girl " as her entrance song on her previous tour but now takes the stage to Lenny Kravitz's version of "American Woman". She sings a cover of The Lumineers's "Ho Hey" nightly, intertwined with her own "Stay Stay Stay".

Her meet and greet room for the tour was called Club Red .

The stage for the Red tour is when Swift really started getting creative with her stage designs and therefore, add a more evolved look to her live shows. In fact, the shape of the Red Tour stage is very unique, it is in a U shape, with two pits, divided by a catwalk within the U stage. This permitted for fans to feel closer to Taylor during the show and have many interactions.

The main stage catwalk also had a crane that Swift went on during " Treacherous " and " We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together " for the show encore.

There was also a B stage at the back of the venue, with a round-shaped platform that lifted up. Swift would perform the surprise song of the set on this stage.

During the shows in Asia, the stage was been modified with several cuts, including:

  • The U stage was completely removed and replaced by a standard T-shaped catwalk
  • The overhead screen above the stage were removed, and there was only one back screen, not three.
  • Many lighting were reduced.
  • The crane at catwalk, the lifted platform on B stage and floating constellation during " Sparks Fly " was removed.

Red Hot Chili Peppers at London Tottenham Stadium: timings, setlist and everything you need to know

RHCP are performing one of two UK shows in London on Friday

India Lawrence

It’s a big day for members of the Rockinfreakapotamus fan club in London. Tonight (Friday July 21) the Red Hot Chili Peppers are heading to north London to rock out Tottenham’s London Stadium. One of only two UK shows, you don’t want to miss this rare chance to see the Chili Peppers IRL. This is all the information about the show today.

What time do doors open for the Red Hot Chili Peppers at Tottenham Hotspur?

Doors open at the Tottenham Stadium at 4.30pm.

What time will the Red Hot Chili Peppers come on stage?

The Peppers haven’t released their official stage time, but they’re likely to come on at around 8.45 pm.

What’s the full setlist?

The band hasn’t given away an official setlist either, but they have been playing similar songs across their world tour. The show is likely to go something like this:

  • Around the World
  • Universally Speaking
  • Snow ((Hey Oh))
  • Here Ever After
  • Blood Sugar Sex Magik
  • I Like Dirt
  • Throw Away Your Television
  • Soul to Squeeze
  • Suck My Kiss
  • Carry Me Home
  • Californication
  • Black Summer
  • I Could Have Lied
  • Give It Away

Who is supporting the Red Hot Chili Peppers?

Supporting the ‘Californication’ singers at Tottenham Hotspur stadium are hip-hop group The Roots and dream pop singer/songwriter King Princess.

Are there any tickets left?

There are a few last-minute tickets being flogged on Ticketmaster . Standing will set you back a pretty penny, costing £200, but some seats are going for £90.

What’s the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium bag policy?

The north London venue doesn't allow any bags bigger than an A4 piece of paper (21cm x 30cm), which means no backpacks. As with most gigs, illegal items like fireworks, knives or drugs aren't allowed, but you can use your common sense for that. The stadium also doesn't allow flag poles longer than 1m, or flags or banners bigger than 250cm on their longest side.

Will the train strikes impact transport to and from Tottenham Stadium?

If you're coming from outside London, your travel to the gig might be scuppered by train strikes  taking place on July 20 and 22. Thankfully there is no industrial action on the actual concert day, but there may be a slight hangover from the days before. Read our explainer on the UK-wide strikes to get the full lowdown.

More music! The best gigs in London this July.

Tate McRae 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards

Here Is Tate McRae’s ‘Think Later World Tour’ Setlist

Megan Armstrong

Tate McRae made headlines for being in Dublin, Ireland to support The Kid Laroi , who referred to her as his “ girlfriend ” during his The First Time Tour show on Sunday, April 14. But it’s also a business trip for McRae: Her Think Later World Tour kicked off on Wednesday, April 17, at 3Olympia Theatre in Dublin.

McRae released Think Later , her sophomore studio album, in December. So, of course, the bulk of McRae’s Think Later World Tour setlist (as chronicled on setlist.fm ) is taken from the album’s tracklist, including “ Greedy ,” which is far and away the biggest hit of McRae’s career — peaking at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in January.

Tate McRae’s Think Later World Tour Setlist

Act 1 1. “Think Later” 2. “Hurt My Feelings” 3. “Uh Oh” 4. “What’s Your Problem?”

5. “Feel Like Sh*t” 6. “Calgary” 7. “Stay Done”

8. “Messier” 9. “Cut My Hair 10. “Rubberband” 11. “Exes” 12. “Grave”

13. “Guilty Conscience” 14. “We’re Not Alike” 15. “She’s All I Wanna Be” 16. “You Broke Me First” 17. “Run For The Hills”

Encore 18. “Greedy”

Lana Del Rey live at Coachella 2024: distinctive star stays true to herself

April 12, Indio, California: Although mired by sound issues, the singer’s first Coachella headline set presents a lowkey, artful celebration of her career so far

Before Coachella 2024 kicked off, Lana Del Rey appeared to hint that her headline moment was the crux of a narrative arc of redemption. On the side of the highway leading to the desert festival, she posted a billboard nodding to the 2012 SNL performance she was mercilessly crucified for. “Has anyone else died for you?” it pointedly asked, designed in a way that sent up the advertising hoardings that populate America’s Bible Belt.

  • READ MORE:  Coachella 2024 liveblog day one: Lana Del Rey, Billie Eilish, and all the action from Friday

When she arrives on stage tonight (April 12) – making her grand entrance via a motorcade of motorbikes, riding through the crowd – it doesn’t feel like redemption. Del Rey has long proven what she’s really capable of, both on record and in her live performances that have seen her become a festival headliner around the world. Instead, her first time atop the Coachella bill feels reflective; a survey of all she’s done and created over the last 12 years.

It begins by dialling things all the way back to 2012 and her debut album, ‘Born To Die’ – or, more specifically, one of its bonus tracks, ‘Without You’. It’s a surprising but beautiful opening, even if its “ Hello hello, can, can you hear me? ” line takes on a prophetic slant later in the set. There are songs dug out from Del Rey’s cupboard that haven’t been played in years – the hazy ‘West Coast’, and her take on Sublime ’s ‘Doin’ Time’ among them – and, even when she’s playing some of her biggest hits, there’s a feeling that you’re watching a setlist of lowkey gems. The stuttering ‘Bartender’ melds smoothly with the dreaminess of ‘Chemtrails Over The Country Club’, ‘Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd’’s yearning shifts quickly into the more gently acerbic ‘Norman Fucking Rockwell’.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by NME (@nmemagazine)

As that ‘Without You’ lyric predicts, though, Del Rey’s set – like much of day one across the festival – is mired by sound issues. At several points, she stops singing to check on technical issues and, after the gorgeous ‘…Ocean Blvd’, sings: “ As quiet as I am, how are you doing? ” That seems to be both a reference to the sound and her not spending much time interacting with the audience – immediately after, she continues her melodic inquiry: “ As little as I have to say, can you hear me well? ”

Some festival-goers and critics have pointed to Del Rey as an “odd” choice of headliner – someone not exactly known for putting in energetic, flashy performances. Tonight, unswayed by those opinions, she sticks to what is true to her and instead focuses on something artful rather than gimmicky. After arriving on her motorcade, she enters a stage built to look like a palatial old mansion, where she’s joined by dancers moving down the grand staircases and, later, guests who stop by to stay for a moment. The beauty in the performances comes in the small details – the star lying back on her dancers for ‘Pretty When You Cry’, all of them dressed in blue like a pool of sparkling tears, or her leaning into the narrative of ‘Bartender’, briefly, coolly, checking her appearance in a mirror while the performers around her venture into choreography that feels almost occultist.

There is a subtle flash, though. When Jack Antonoff takes a seat behind the piano for ‘Hope Is A Dangerous Thing For A Woman Like Me To Have – But I Have It’, he’s not joining flesh-and-blood Lana on stage, but a hologram version of her that spins slowly, gracefully in one spot. When the song arrives at the “ Hello, it’s the most famous woman you know on the iPad ” lyric, it feels like the stage has become our screen, Del Rey’s virtual image beaming through from somewhere else.

As rumoured, a handful of guests make an appearance, too, including Antonoff. First, Jon Batiste joins her for a sublime ‘Candy Necklace’ that closes with the pair ad-libbing together in harmony. After, Billie Eilish sits next to Del Rey on her balcony, duetting versions of their respective breakthrough songs, ‘Ocean Eyes’ and ‘Video Games’. It’s a stunning coming together of two of music’s most distinctive voices.

As well as an impressive catalogue, what Del Rey has also created over the last 12 years is impact – something that’s evident across Coachella this year. Earlier in the day, Chappell Roan projects her image onto the screen behind her as she performs, while throughout the bill, you can spot more artists who’ve been inspired by the headliner, like Suki Waterhouse and The Last Dinner Party . After ‘Video Games’ ends, Del Rey turns to the crowd to remind them Eilish is “the voice of our generation”, but her guest has her own truth to share: “This is the reason for half of you bitches’ existence,” Eilish bluntly declares. A short while later, Del Rey returns backstage on her motorcade. As she waves to the crowd like a 1920s beauty queen on an elegant victory lap, it’s clear redemption is not the theme of the night but a celebration of a star who always stays true to herself.

Lana Del Rey played:

‘Without You’ ‘West Coast’ ‘Doin’ Time’ ‘Summertime Sadness’ ‘Cherry’ ‘Pretty When You Cry’ ‘Ride’ ‘Born To Die’ ‘Bartender’ ‘Chemtrails Over The Country Club’ ‘The Grants’ ‘Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd’ ‘Norman Fucking Rockwell’ ‘Arcadia’ ‘Candy Necklace’ ‘Ocean Eyes’ ‘Video Games’ ‘Hope Is A Dangerous Thing For A Woman Like Me To Have – But I Have It’ ‘A&W’ ‘Young and Beautiful’
