1999 Plymouth Voyager
1999 Plymouth Voyager - Fuel Filter/Water Separator
Microgard fuel filter, multiple applications, wix fuel filter, understand the symptoms of a bad fuel filter.
Designed to contain and eliminate sediment, scale, and debris from fuel, a fuel filter uses a screen or filter to ensure your engine is receiving clean fuel. Fuel filters are typically found between your fuel pump and fuel inlet, or may be installed on the fuel pump or in the fuel line. Your fuel filter also prevents your fuel injectors or carburetor jets from becoming clogged and helps with overall engine performance. A vehicle's fuel filter can become clogged with time due to dirty or contaminated fuel, dirt, or rust from the fuel tank or fuel lines. A failing or clogged fuel filter restricts the flow of fuel, resulting in sluggish acceleration, a rough idle, stalling, misfires, and more. Not only can a clogged fuel filter cause a decline in performance, but it can also lead to low fuel pressure and a lean fuel mixture, or even a complete inability to start the engine. Installing a new fuel filter or a fuel strainer can help keep debris out of your fuel lines and the rest of your fuel delivery system. If you are experiencing issues with fuel delivery, check the condition of the fuel filter or your fuel pressure. If the filter is dirty or clogged, it should be replaced as soon as possible to ensure proper engine performance. Since an underperforming fuel filter may fail to trap debris, changing your fuel filter at regular intervals or when necessary can also help prevent contamination or damage to your fuel pump, carburetor or fuel injectors, and more. It's a common manufacturer recommendation that you change your fuel filter every two years or every 20,000 to 30,000 miles - although your vehicle's owner's manual may include other manufacturer replacement recommendations. When you're ready for a replacement fuel filter, find the right one for your vehicle at O'Reilly Auto Parts, where we carry diesel fuel filters, fuel lines, hoses, fuel pumps, and more to help you improve your vehicle's fuel delivery. For further guidance, learn how to replace a fuel filter , how to change a diesel fuel filter , and much more with information, videos, and instructions in our How-To Hub .

Fuel Filter Location?
- Add to quote
Is this underneath the van, or more likely inside tank attached to the pump assembly?
On my '99 Grand Voyager it's inside the tank, so it's a good bet yours is, too. Probably not what you wanted to hear, though.
I’d rather be able to change it, but it is what it is.
It’s part of the fuel pump for this generation. The previous generation had an external filter that required you to drop the tank.
Thanks for the info, that’s what I figgered.
Basically a strainer that's part of the fuel pump assembly. Fuel is filtered better at the pump these days plus plastic tanks don't rust.
Most modern vehicles have 2 fuel filters which are good for the life of the fuel pump or vehicle, whichever comes first. there is a sock filter there prevents the pump from picking up any dirt. Then there is a small filter after the pump that catches pieces of the pump as it wears. There is no reason to ever change any of these unless changing the pump

The engine air filter in your 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager cleans the air that enters your engine. You should change the filter on your Grand Voyager at least once a year or every 20,000 miles, whichever comes first. If you drive in dusty or sandy conditions, you should change your filter more frequently. A dirty air filter will cause your Grand Voyager to lose 1 - 3 mpg, depending on your driving, you can save 70 - 100 gallons of gas per year simply by changing your filter regularly. The video above, shows you where the engine air filter is located in your Grand Voyager and how to change it! In addition to improving the fuel economy of your Grand Voyager, regularly replacing your air filter will put less strain on your engine. These filters are fairly inexpensive, so check out our parts page for great deals and coupons on a new one (tip: buy several, when you go to check the filter on your Grand Voyager, you can easily swap it for a new one if it is dirty). Be sure to adhere to a recurring schedule for your 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager replacement.
