Ephantus Safari, the ex-husband of actress Joy Karambu, popularly known as Kawira, has broken his silence about their six-year marriage, shedding light on their relationship's inception, the reasons for their separation, and the ensuing depression he faced when Kawira allegedly left him.

Ephantus revealed that their paths first crossed in 2013 when he was organizing an event at St Andrew's.

They were in search of an MC who could connect well with children, and that's when he noticed Kawira backstage.

At the time, Ephantus had been contemplating marriage, and he found Kawira's character appealing. Their connection blossomed, leading to a grand wedding. Ephantus asserted that he has never regretted his decision to marry Kawira.

"We met in 2013. I was doing an event at St Andrews. We were looking for an MC who would connect well with kids. So siku ya show the way she was backstage I liked her. That time nilikuwa nafeel I wanted to get married.

"Niliona huyu ni dame ako na character poa. We met numerous times then from there we decided to have a wedding, which was huge. I've never said that I made a wrong decision," he said.

Ephantas reveals they faced pressure to have kids

Their initial plan was to wait for two years before having children, as they both felt they were still young. However, the pressure from relatives made those two years challenging.

They eventually decided to have children, but this decision marked the beginning of their relationship's troubles.

Ephantus shared that cultural differences and the presence of Kawira's mother-in-law in their home strained their relationship.

"When kids came challenges zilianza. On her side, she said alikuwa tu anatrust her mother na watoi, so we had to bring her mother. Issues started from there because in our Kikuyu culture mothers-in-law are not supposed to stay with the son-in-law. Ni kutembea tu alafu anaenda, " she said.

Although they initially agreed that Kawira's mother would leave and receive support from outside, the situation escalated from there.

Ephantas claims ex-wife Kawira left him

One day, Ephantus returned home to find that Kawira and their children were gone. He felt like something was wrong and realised that there were no security lights or any of her belongings in the house.

"One day I came back nikapata hawako... Nikafeel ni kama kuna kiru kinaendelea. Nilipata hakuna security lights.Nikaona hakuna vitu, nguo zake zote haziko, nikaenda bedroom ya watoi hakuna vitu. Nilifeel tu kama ameona ameishia ni sawa tu.

"I didn't call until the third day. When I called some of her friends and relatives, none of them gave me a positive response. All this time I was sending support but when I called she was not picking up. Later she blocked me everywhere," he said.

Ephantus fell into a deep depression during this period, even turning to alcohol for solace.

After surviving a health scare related to his high sugar levels, Ephantus decided to forgive completely and move on.

"I tried all I could until I hated people in the church because no one was willing to help. I got into depression. I started drinking in the house. I was very bitter about everything. Akaanza ku upload vitu on social media and interviews on various blogs.

"And unasoma comments people are judging you on what they don't know. I even went to the hospital and one time I felt like I was dying. Doc said my sugar level was high and it was possible that all my organs would be affected. But I survived," he said.

Ephantas hints at the possible cause of their break-up with kawira

Ephantus suggested a potential reason for his breakup with his ex-wife Kawira. He mentioned that recently, he had a conversation with one of her friends who told him that there were rumors and claims that he was involved with multiple partners, to the point that he had a bed in his office.

He questioned why Kawira chose to believe these rumors and mentioned that he had heard similar concerns from a family member on the day of their wedding, although he didn't take those warnings seriously.

"Recently, I was talking to one of her friends, and I heard that they even claimed we had a bed in our workplace. They said I'm promiscuous, to the extent that I had placed a bed in my office.

"So, why did she choose to believe all those rumors? I was told many things by a family member on the day of our wedding, but I didn't take them seriously," he said.

Ephantas accuses Kawira of denying him access to their kids

Ephantus expressed his desire to co-parent with Kawira for the sake of their children. He emphasized that he has attempted to reach out for this arrangement but has faced challenges.

"Maybe we were not compatible so the best thing is to give each other space and then we come together to co-parent. I've tried to reach out for that.

"Even last week I tried but it didn't work. But sasa ikikataa I will have to go for child custody through the courts. Mi anaeza nichomea jina vile anataka, but our kids staki wakue kwa vita zetu," he said.

Should their efforts to reconcile fail, he is prepared to seek child custody through legal means.

Pastor Ephantus Safari has opened up about why his marriage to former Papa Shirandula actress Joy Kawira broke after six years.

In an interview with Massawe Japanni, Safari highlighted a few reasons as to why their marriage ended.

“The last time she claimed that you were very violent to her? Massawe kicked started the interview.

Safari weighed in alleging that his ex-wife was just looking for an escape route by branding him an abuser.

“Maybe she was just looking for a point to justify her actions because we lived very well and later she was the one who left without disclosing why," he said. 

He went on to state that the main reason for the failure of their marriage was his now ex-wife's need to continue staying with his mother.

“She really wanted to live with her mother, when I married her she was living with her mother. I took her and we started living together.

"After a while, the mother came and started living with us to which I advised that we rent a separate house for the mother-in-law. But after a while, she again looked for another house and they started staying together again,’.

The music producer went on to allege that he has not seen his kids for close to three years after Kawira cut all communications with him.

“I support her and I even call her but she doesn’t answer even when I send messages. But I sent money because I don’t want my kids to suffer even though I have not seen them for three years,” he added.

He also mentioned that now he has a lawyer and he is going to address the settlement the legal way in the coming days to be able to gain access to his kids.

“I have tried everything and even sent people close to her but all way in vain and so I have decided to go to Court to get permission to see my kids,” h e added.

Inside the turbulent marriage of papa shirandula actress and pastor ephantus.

Ephantus Wahome Safari, the former husband of the popular Papa Shirandula actress Kawira – real name Joy Karambu, has broken his silence and shared intimate details about their now-dissolved marriage in an emotionally charged interview with Presenter Ali.

Kawira, known for her role in the beloved Kenyan TV show, ended her marriage to Pastor Ephantus on June 16, 2020.

In the revealing interview, Ephantus recounted their journey from the day they met to the unforeseen circumstances that led to their separation.

He began by vividly recalling their initial encounter, which took place while he was working as a stage manager during an event.

He recounted how Kawira’s behavior backstage intrigued him, prompting him to offer her a ride home.

She was initially hesitant to share her home location but accepted an umbrella he offered her.

Ephantus admitted that he confessed to colleagues that he believed Kawira would one day be the mother of his children, even if not necessarily his wife.

“I got interested. I requested to give her a ride, but she refused for us to know [where] her house is located. I gave her an umbrella, and the next day, I told my colleagues that she would be the mother of my kids, not my wife,” he explained.

Their relationship blossomed despite Kawira’s busy schedule, and they shared strong faith ties.

They attended counseling as part of their journey, leading to a grand wedding celebration.

However, Ephantus revealed that societal pressure led them to change their plans to wait two years before having children.

“We had a plan not to get children until two years. We felt like we were young. People could not understand our vision, and they started pressuring us. We agreed to get a child, and we conceived the first one, but it was a blighted ovum, and our doctor advised us to terminate, which happened. From there, after two months, we conceived triplets and we walked together.”

Despite this setback, they persevered and eventually conceived triplets, tragically losing one of their unborn children six months into the pregnancy.

Ephantus shared that the medical bills escalated, but through faith and support, they managed to raise the necessary funds.

“Challenges started. Thereafter we brought in her mother. Issues were many, but she said her mother was the one who she would have trusted with our kids,” Ephantus revealed.

Disagreements ensued, and one day, Ephantus returned home to find the house empty, with no prior arguments. He made several attempts to reach Kawira but received no response, leading to a growing sense of despair.

“She did not call me the whole day. I got home, and there were no lights, and I realized there was nobody. I checked on the CCTV, and there was nothing. I am human, and I did not call after I realized she had packed her things. I called one of the family members, and after calling, they didn’t pick. I started calling her friends, and most of them were giving me negative answers. We were in marriage for six years. I kept on trying to reach out. I was sending support, but she could not pick my calls. It started becoming too much, and she blocked me.”

Ephantus went through a tumultuous period marked by depression and isolation, despite his role as a marriage counselor.

He disconnected from friends, began drinking alcohol alone at home, and eventually found himself in a state of deep despair.

However, he had a moment of clarity and decided to seek help, leading to his recovery from depression.

He emphasised the emotional impact when Kawira began publicly discussing their marriage issues, and he attempted to contact her even from an ambulance, fearing he might not survive.

“What hit me was when she started going for interviews defaming me. I was hospitalised. I called her while in an ambulance, and I requested her to allow me to speak to my kids before I died, but she did not pick up my call. I was admitted to Mater Hospital due to depression. I thought I would die during that time. My sugar levels were high. We prayed, and the next morning my sugar levels were okay.”

Ephantus expressed gratitude that he did survive, eventually recovering from his depression and choosing to forgive and release her entirely.

In his concluding remarks, Ephantus acknowledged that he had rushed into marriage, and compatibility issues had played a significant role in their challenges. He emphasized the importance of co-parenting their children and not placing blame but rather recognising that marriage requires effort from both partners.

Despite their journey, he said he still offers counsel to couples navigating the complexities of marriage.

“I decided to forgive completely and let her be. I released her completely. Stories come, that she is dating people I helped in life. She should also be happy when she hears that I have moved on. She is idle, and that is why she is always speaking about me. A good man should look for her. For me, I have healed, and I am okay, I did not die. It is my opportunity to work out where I failed. Marriage works, but it should be a two-sided effort to work on it. I did not see anything that was huge for it not to work.”

In a past interview, Kawira said she did not listen to God but was mesmerised by her ex’s dark and handsome looks. She said Ephantus was her first love, but they failed to connect.

Former Papa Shirandula actress Joy Karambu aka Kawira has disclosed that she walked out of her marriage after six years.

Speaking on the Kamuhunjia Show , the thespian revealed that she is no longer married as many of her fans believe.

"I'm not married. I've been single for two years now. I said it's a wrap, and it was a wrap. I am no longer in that relationship," Kawira explained.

She disclosed that they both tried to make things work but they had to accept that they were never meant to be.

She added that she quit for the sake of peace for both herself and her partner, adding that it was her who finally walked out of the marriage.

"I left on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at 4 pm. I still remember the date and time, that's a woman for you," she said categorically.

Kawira blames herself for entering into the marriage too fast and did not explore enough and by the time she learned some of the things she does, it was too late.

She advised people in relationships to take time and know their partners before getting married to them.

This, she said, can only be achieved by pushing the other party to the extreme ends for one to understand how they react when angry.

"If you feel in your heart that you are not in the right place, please quit, don't stay there. You will live to fight another day," she said.

The thespian says that the two no longer communicate and she is currently in a relationship with Jesus, which is very stable.

In 2017, after three years of marriage, Kawira took to the internet to shower her spouse with praises and sweet nothings.

The love-struck thespian also attached photos of her grown baby bump, terming her husband as a blessing and praising him for being the perfect partner throughout the course of their heated romance.
