  • j + 19 Jex Ter 2015-04-12 21:06:24 Although it seemed to be an innocent mistake, the Skipper was a scurvy rogue who knew there was going to be a bad squall. His diabolical plan was to "shipwreck" the Minnow (nudge nudge, wink wink), ransom Thurston Howle III for all his loot, and being a completely unscrupulous cad, have his way with Lovely and Ginger as well! (A.K.A.: bonus booty). The Skipper's evil plot was foiled because he had underestimated his 1st mate. Gilligan was actually a brilliant detective who had been investigating nefarious goings-on at The Tropic Port, and had traced them to the Skipper and his gang of scoundrels. His bumbling goofy demeanor (a la Colombo) and seemingly silly high-jinks enabled him to thwart the Skipper at every turn, while at the same time keeping the other castaways from becoming alarmed. The Professor got hip to what was going down pretty quick, and assisted Gilligan in any way he could. Although most of the engineering ideas came from the Professor (coconut telephones, etc.), he actually had to consult Gilligan for a lot of his more hard-core science diversions, since Gilligan had PhDs in both nuclear physics and organic chemistry. Most of the sexual tension in the show arose from the 3-way love triangle between Gilligan, the Professor, and May Ann, who was a vacationing pole dancer from Iowa. Add your reply
  • U + 10 Unregistered 2012-06-14 13:11:45 Five tourists from different walks of life decided to sail the high seas for adventure, photography, umbrella drinks, suntan, salty air, dolphin sightings and the wind in their face. Well, they got all that and more. They were all enjoying the cruise and when winds driffed in creating high swells of water, the party was over. At once they sheltered themselves with what little they could find, said their prayers and kissed their butts goodbye. On the other hand, the skipper being the salty dog that he was, somehow kept his vessle afloat till it crashed on a rather large bogg. You know the rest of the story. Or, you could simply sum it all up and say "never head out without asking the captain what the weather radar said" Rob s. Add your reply
  • U + 8 Unregistered 2015-08-13 18:11:32 The fact that they could make, from scratch on the island, all the amenities of life that they could think of but, still couldn't fix a 2 1/2 foot hole in the boat will be grist for the conspiracy-mill for decades to come. I propose a congressional committee be formed to investigate. Add your reply
  • g + 7 glenndgreenwood 2018-01-21 17:00:59 Have a seat and listen to this story. It's a story about an unfortunate sailing excursion that was supposed to last just a few hours. It all started on a small sailing vessel (S. S. Minnow) at a port in Hawaii. The first mate (whose name was Gilligan [it's unknown if it was his first or last name]) was an experienced, but somewhat klutzy man. The Captain (Jonas Grumby A. K. A "Skipper') was a large, courageous man. The marine experience between the two sailors would turn out to be invaluable to the survival of the story to come. On this particular day, the Captain and his First Mate were taking five passengers on a sight-seeing tour. Among the passengers were a wealthy couple (Thurston Howell iii) and his wife (Eunice "Lovee" Wentworth Howell), a beautiful movie star (Ginger Grant), a professor (Roy Hinckley), and a beautiful, yet modest, farm girl from Winfield, Kansas (Mary Ann Summers). A couple hours into the cruise, a storm set in, setting the sailing vessel off course. The small vessel was tossed about in the tumultuous storm. The winds were blowing hard. Lighting pierced the sky and the thunder boomed loudly. The rain was relentless. Their little sight-seeing tour suddenly took a turn for the worst. The Captain and his First Mate fought hard to keep the vessel afloat. They had to assure the safety of their passengers at any cost. The storm lasted though out the night, leaving the crew and her passengers exhausted. By storms end, the vessel was beached on an uncharted, desolate island. It was fortunate that the vessel had been beached because there was a gaping hole in the starboard hull). Had the Captain and his First Mate been any less experienced, everybody would certainly have perished. The castaways befriended one another and soon became their own little community. They utilized most everything they could get their hands on. They had no electricity, no method of transportation, not a single luxury. Like the life of Robinson Crusoe, survival was a constant uphill battle. They endured many hardships, but remained optimistic through out their many experiences. Join us here each week for another chapter in the life and times of the marooned castaways on "Gilligan's Island". Add your reply

  • U + 2 Unregistered 2017-02-15 05:26:11 The Professor on Gilligan's Island inspired a love of science in me. He was by far my favorite tv character when I was a young boy. I went on to become a science teacher, do postgraduate work on Hawaiian volcanoes and earn a Masters degree in Geoscience. The actor who played the professor, Russell Johnson, wrote a great memoir and told of other fans with advanced science degrees who were also inspired by the Professor! Add your reply

Take a tour through the entire history of human culture.

This three-hour trail takes you through our major galleries, showcasing the most popular objects on display.

Lower and Ground floors

1. the sloane astrolabe ( room 1 ).

Crafted around 1300, this astrolabe is named for Hans Sloane, whose collection formed the basis of the British Museum. It's the earliest and largest English astrolabe to have survived from the Middle Ages and shows a knowledge of Arabic astronomy and instrumentation.

2. The Holy Thorn Reliquary

2. the holy thorn reliquary ( room 2a ).

Lavishly decorated with jewels and originating in France around 1400, this reliquary contains a single thorn purported to be taken from the biblical crown of thorns. It's one of a small number of goldsmiths' works surviving from the courts of the Valois royal family of medieval France.

3. Assyrian lion hunt reliefs (Room 10)

3. assyrian lion hunt reliefs ( room 10 ).

Originating from the ancient Mesopotamian city of Nineveh, near modern-day Mosul in Iraq, these reliefs were carved during the reign of Ashurbanipal – the last great Assyrian king – and rank among the finest known achievements of Assyrian art.

4. Parthenon sculptures (Room 18)

4. parthenon sculptures ( room 18 ).

Carved about 2,500 years ago, these ancient Greek sculptures adorned the Parthenon, a temple on the Athenian Acropolis that once contained a colossal gold and ivory statue of the goddess Athena.

5. The Rosetta Stone (replica within Room 1)

5. the rosetta stone ( room 4 ).

The key that unlocked the hieroglyphic language of ancient Egypt, the Rosetta Stone is the Museum's most popular exhibit and one of the cornerstones of modern Egyptology. Don't leave without seeing it for yourself.

6. Bust of Ramesses the Great (Room 4)

6. bust of ramesses the great ( room 4 ).

This section of a larger statue, which weighs 7.5 tonnes, once sat in the Ramesseum, in Egypt, venerating Ramesses II, one of the greatest Egyptian pharaohs. Coverage of the bust's transportation to the UK is believed to have inspired Shelley's famous sonnet,  Ozymandias .

7. The Ife Head

7. the ife head ( room 25 ).

A brass casting, maybe 600 years old, probably depicting Ooni, the leader of the West African Kingdom of Ife. Lifelike depictions of people such as those from Ife are unique in African art of the period and reflect important aspects of this landmark culture that existed by the lower Niger River.

8. Hoa Hakananai'a (Room 24)

8. hoa hakananai'a ( room 24 ).

This statue, known as Hoa Hakananai'a, comes from the ritual centre of Orongo on Rapa Nui (Easter Island). Carved from basalt, it has carvings on the back associated with the islanders' birdman cult. It is of great significance to the people of Rapa Nui today.

9. Aztec serpent (Room 27)

9. aztec serpent ( room 27 ).

Created in what is now Mexico in the 15th or 16th century, this extraordinary double-headed serpent sculpture is mostly made of turquoise pieces over a wooden base and probably had ritual significance.

Upper floor

10. oxus treasure ( room 52 ).

Stunning examples of gold and silver metalwork found in the Oxus river, on the border of Afghanistan and Tajikistan, which date back to the Achaemenid Empire of the 5th to 3rd century BC. Together, the pieces form one of the British Museum's great collections.

11. Mold ceremonial gold cape

11. mold ceremonial gold cape ( room 51 ).

At the centre of a stone-lined grave, found in Mold in North Wales in 1833, was a crushed gold cape around the fragmentary remains of a skeleton. Strips of bronze and numbers of amber beads were recovered, but only one of the beads reached the British Museum.

This cape is one of the finest examples of prehistoric sheet-gold working and is quite unique in form and design. The cape was restored at the British Museum during the 1960s. Before that, no one really knew its exact original shape. It dates back to the European Bronze Age.

12. Basse Yutz flagons

12. basse yutz flagons ( room 50 ).

These ceremonial drinking vessels were discovered in France and produced in the 5th century BC. Once considered too sophisticated to be genuine, their manufacture points to trading links between distant areas of Europe and cultural links with Egypt.

13. The Hinton St Mary Mosaic

13. the hinton st mary mosaic ( room 49 ).

Discovered in Dorset in 1963 and originally part of a Roman-period mosaic floor, the Hinton St. Mary Mosaic is believed to show an image of Jesus Christ. If so, it would be one of the earliest surviving depictions, dating back to the 4th century.

14. Jade terrapin

14. jade terrapin ( room 43 ).

Carved from a single piece of jade, this Terrapin was made in Mughal India, during the early 17th century, for the court of the Emperor Jahangir. It was discovered at the bottom of a well during excavations in 1803 and was subsequently bequeathed to the Museum in 1830.

15. The Sutton Hoo ship burial

15. the sutton hoo ship burial ( room 41 ).

Found undisturbed in 1939, the many artefacts of the Sutton Hoo burial date back to 7th century Britain and are popularly believed to have belonged to an Anglo-Saxon king. See one of the most magnificent archaeological discoveries ever made in the UK for yourself.

16. Lewis Chessmen (Room 40)

16. lewis chessmen ( room 40 ).

Fashioned from walrus ivory and brimming with personality, the Lewis Chessmen were made in the 12th century and discovered buried in a sand bank off the Scottish island of Lewis in 1831. They have been described as the most famous chess pieces in the world.

17. Mechanical galleon

17. mechanical galleon ( room 39 ).

Constructed in around 1585 in southern Germany, this elaborately but precisely designed nef (a type of table ornament) is made of gilded brass. When it worked, it would have displayed a range of automated movements – rolling forward on its wheels, emitting smoke from the cannons, and playing music – as well as functioning as a clock.

18. Royal Game of Ur (Room 56)

18. royal game of ur ( room 56 ).

Originally played in the early third millennium BC and once popular across the Middle East, the rules of this two-player strategy boardgame were lost to history until British Museum curator Irving Finkel decoded a cuneiform tablet containing the instructions in the early 1980s.

19. The Flood Tablet

19. the flood tablet ( room 55 ).

The Assyrian King Ashurbanipal (reigned 669–631BC) collected a library of thousands of cuneiform tablets in his palace at Nineveh. The best known of these was the story of Gilgamesh, a legendary ruler of Uruk, and his search for immortality. The Epic of Gilgamesh is a huge work, the longest piece of literature in Akkadian (the language of Babylonia and Assyria). This, the 11th tablet of the Epic, describes the meeting of Gilgamesh with Utnapishtim. Like Noah in the Hebrew Bible, Utnapishtim had been forewarned of a plan by the gods to send a great flood. He built a boat and loaded it with all his precious possessions, his kith and kin, domesticated and wild animals and skilled craftsmen of every kind.

20. Sphinx of Taharqo

20. sphinx of taharqo ( room 65 ).

This statue was found in Temple T at Kawa, in Upper Nubia (Sudan). Sphinxes are associated with the sun god and are a symbol of the immense power of the Egyptian king. The human head of this sphinx is adorned with two uraei, the symbols of kingship. The face is that of Taharqo, whose name appears in the cartouche on the chest. Taharqo was one of the kings of Kush who conquered and then ruled Egypt as the 25th Dynasty (about 747–656 BC).

21. Mummy of Katebet (Room 63)

21. mummy of katebet ( room 63 ).

One of the most-studied mummies in the Museum, Katebet was a Chantress of Amun, and would have sung and performed music during rituals. Both the mummy and her accoutrements are incredibly well preserved, despite dating back to 1300 BC.

22. Samurai armour (Room 92–94)

22. samurai armour ( room 93 ).

Armour and weaponry defined the samurai's authority on the battlefield. This complete, matching set of armour was produced for a member of the powerful Mori family, who were samurai lords based in western Japan.

How Gilligan Could Get Stranded on an Island With Only a 3 Hour Tour

How Gilligan Could Get Stranded on an Island With Only a 3 Hour Tour

Reality tends to stick its big nose in and kick the hell out of our favorite fantasies sometimes, doesn’t it? Gilligan’s Island was a great show in its time, but the whole idea of it is kind of kooky since the premise that the three-hour tour…. the three hour tour , would mean that the SS Minnow would be outbound for an hour and a half and then inbound for the same time. Plus, unless the storm came out of nowhere, which can happen on the open sea, but is still noticeable when one is only a relatively short distance from shore, there is a possibility that the boat could be knocked off course. But then we get to the idea of the Minnow being in uncharted waters, which is hard to believe back in the 1960s, since sailors had been crisscrossing the globe for centuries at that point. Being blown off course wouldn’t be too hard on the open ocean, but given the size of the Minnow and how fast it might be able to go, an hour and a half wouldn’t put it that far from any known islands and wouldn’t constitute a seriously big search area when thinking about how much water a search party can cover. For the sake of the story though it does make sense to have them crash on an uncharted island that would somehow be beyond the reach of any search party, though it would be as likely as actually falling off the edge of the earth as happened in the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie. It is an interesting thought to contemplate however, that Gilligan and crew found a version of Davy Jones’ locker long before Disney ever came up with the idea.

Then there’s the cast to consider. The two millionaires make sense, but what about the professor, Mary Anne, and Ginger? What in the world were they doing on that cruise? What was Mr. Howell doing with all that cash on him anyway? There are so many questions pertaining to the characters and the story when it comes to this show that trying to sort them all out might be possible, but it’s a giant headache at times too. Why the Minnow was allowed to drift though is pretty straightforward. Gilligan, being Gilligan, tossed the anchor overboard to try and keep the craft in place, but either the Skipper didn’t check to make sure it was attached to the chain or Gilligan didn’t bother to look, because they lost the anchor and that was that, the boat was set to drift, apparently for three days it sounds like, before the craft crashed upon the island, with huge holes in the sides that made it look as though it hit a few submerged rocks on the way in. A truly skilled individual, or at least one that knew how to patch a hole here and there, could have fixed the boat and set it afloat again, but obviously that wasn’t in the cards as the castaways spent a good amount of time on the island, creating a show that a few of those involved didn’t even believe in that people came to care a great deal about.

Just looking at the dynamics of it, this journey should have been fairly simple, and the weather shouldn’t have been much of a factor for a skilled seaman like the Skipper since considering how much wide open ocean exists around Hawaii, spotting weather patterns isn’t too hard for those who know what to look for. The idea for this show was to basically make it appear as simple as possible and that was easily attained since the whole idea is one that likely made a lot of skilled and seasoned sailors wince considering the craft that was used and the fact that Skipper was someone that should have known what he was doing. Plus, having a professor on board, someone with skills leaning towards a variety of things that were found to be useful, should have been enough of a winning combination to get the group off the island in short order. The professor made things out of coconuts for crying out loud, it’s hard to think that he couldn’t come up with some sort of compound that could have been used to repair the Minnow while Gilligan and Skipper could have been chopping down trees to try and patch the holes as best they could, or find something else to use that might have worked.

That’s the point with shows like this however, it’s usually a chance to do the most outlandish things possible without really getting into the practical side of things. Once everything starts making sense the show is pretty much over, and reality gets to take the place of the fantasy.

Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour Is a 3-Hour Career-Spanning Victory Lap

By Waiss Aramesh

Waiss Aramesh

How do we measure the impact of a musician in 2023? Streams can be bought. Awards can be finessed. Is it when demand for show tickets leads to a congressional hearing about Ticketmaster’s policies? Or when flight attendants shout out a fanbase making a pilgrimage to see a tour opener? Or when TikToks of merch inspirations and setlist predictions rack up millions of views? Nearly a decade ago, a headline ran declaring ‘ Taylor Swift Is The Music Industry’ and those with even the slightest pulse on pop culture can tell she’s only grown more omnipresent since. It all led to a warm evening in Glendale, Arizona where months after delivering her most commercially-successful album to date, Midnights , Swift debuted a discography-spanning setlist that lasted over three hours and kicked off an aptly-named stadium run. The Eras Tour has arrived.

After night had fallen and GAYLE and Paramore revved the crowd up with a mix of recent chart-toppers (GAYLE’s “abcdefu”) and cultural anthems (Paramore’s “Misery Business”), it was time for the main event. At 7:57pm, a timer appeared on a massive screen prompting screams from all corners of State Farm Stadium. Lesley Gore’s “You Don’t Own Me” played as fans braced themselves for the arrival of Swift. When the timer hit 0:00, the house we’d seen in the “Lover” music video assembled on the screen, indicating that this evening was first and foremost about reviving the feelings each era evoked.

Editor’s picks

Every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term, the 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history.

It’s easy to compare one of Swift’s stadium shows to something you’d see on Broadway — never has that been more true than for The Eras Tour . The setlist is cut up into acts, grouped together by eras for each of Swift’s ten studio albums. For each era/act, Swift went full-send into that album’s look, feel, costume, color blocking, and more.

Many eras got a few songs. At one moment, it seemed like Swift’s soft spot for Folklore would mean we’d hear the entire album. On the opposite end, Speak Now ’s part of the show was short but impactful. Swift played only one song from her third studio album, “Enchanted,” while wearing a stunning floor-length ballroom gown designed by Nicole + Derr. Hopping from act to act, Swift made it extremely clear when she’s taking the audience out of one era and into another. This isn’t a hastily put together setlist with a vague thread of connective tissue — Swift is taking her audience on a nostalgic extravaganza.

Taylor Swift Debuts 'My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys' Live at Paris Eras Tour

They couldn't afford taylor swift tickets in america. so they flew to france, watch paramore perform 'burning down the house’ live in paris.

For “The Man,” Swift completed her Versace look with a blazer and made sure everyone could see the red bottoms when she kicked her feet up on a conference room table as she delivered the masterfully written and scathing assessment of gender inequality in pop culture. Swift closed out the Lover era act with “You Need to Calm Down” and “The Archer,” the latter getting a beautifully stripped down rendition so Swift’s vocals echoed across the stadium: “Because all of my enemies started out friends / Help me hold onto you.”

At one point, as Swift ran through hits from her Fearless era, she flashed a smile and announced to the crowd that she was taking us back to high school with her. The nostalgia seeped into the show, resulting in some of the loudest crowd participation yet, especially from those old enough to have grown up with Swift and were in high school at the same time she was. The singer ran through “Fearless,” “You Belong With Me,” and “Love Story,” reminding us of a time when we discovered the pop phenomenon unbeknownst to the level of celebrity she’d achieve.

Something about Swift — she’s online. If the fact that she decided to end last night with the TikTok-friendly “Karma” doesn’t make that obvious enough, her joke about disliking Evermore hammers home the point.

Later on in the act reserved for her ninth studio album, in line with how theatrical the event was, Swift set up a beautiful dinner setting only to deliver a heart-wrenching rendition of “Tolerate It.” She also performed “Tis the Damn Season,” “Willow,” “Marjorie,” and “Champagne Problems,” giving fans a sizable taste of the Evermore live experience they weren’t able to receive when the project came out in 2020.

For the acts dedicated to Reputation and Red , fans were treated to a masterclass in visuals and hitmaking, two key elements that has assured Swift prolonged success for as long as she’s had it. The powerful, striking, snake motifs were an awesome callback for fans who attended the Reputation tour.

For Red , Swift went through “22,” “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” and “I Knew You Were Trouble. She closed out the act with a beautiful performance of the 10-minute “Taylor’s Version” of “All Too Well.” In the evening’s most ethereal moment, small white confetti made to look like snow blanketed the State Farm Stadium as she neared the end of her magnum opus, singing “Because in this city’s barren cold/I still remember the first fall of snow/And how it glistened how it fell/I remember it all too well.” Not only is Swift a savant for world-building, but she’s perfected the ability to translate those worlds into the live experience.

Swift wasn’t shy about making sure people got the full Folklore live experience. A makeshift cabin, not unlike the one made during Swift’s 2021 Grammys performance, sat on the stage with Swift perched on it during “Invisible String.” The star also discussed how she finally got comfortable crafting narratives for purely fictional characters, rather than ripping them from the headlines about her life.

1989’s era act turned the party up and restored the energy, with Swift donning a Roberto Cavalli top and skirt and going through “Style,” “Blank Space,” “Shake It Off,” “Wildest Dreams,” and “Bad Blood.”

To cap off the evening, Swift returned to Midnights , performing album highlights “Lavender Haze,” “Mastermind,” and more. It was hard to ignore the immense gratitude the singer continued to exude throughout the evening, with the “thank yous” coming more and more often the closer she got to the end.

Eventually, the singer asked the crowd if they had time for one more and launched into her finale, “Karma,” a track with a passionate chorus that’s begging to be scream-sung in a room of over 70,000 who’ve been waiting for this exact moment for years. Maybe it’s fitting that an artist who’s had more than her fair share of ups and downs, and at times has been the most polarizing musician alive, ends her stadium tour opener with a song about how she can finally protect her peace. Karma’s a relaxing thought, indeed.

Eras Tour Performer Guide: Every Taylor Swift Backup Dancer & Vocalist In The Concert Movie

Every taylor swift album, ranked from worst to best, white house war movie from oscar-winning director reportedly in the works at netflix.

  • The latest Eras Tour show in Paris was filmed, hinting at a potential new concert movie release that features songs from The Tortured Poets Department .
  • Taylor Swift rearranges her entire setlist to include 7 songs from Tortured Poets .
  • Fans anticipate another extended version of The Eras Tour movie that includes the Tortured Poets era.

At her Eras Tour kick-off concert in Paris, France, Taylor Swift added new songs from her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department , to the already extensive setlist . As a result, fans are wondering if yet another version of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie is on the horizon. The highest-grossing concert tour of all time, The Eras Tour , which began in 2023 with its North American leg, has made upwards of $1 billion. With a record-breaking opening weekend, the subsequent Eras Tour movie concert garnered over $267.1 million.

The Taylor's Version movie concert was the most complete viewing experience — until now.

For its theatrical release, The Eras Tour Movie cut songs , but Swift has since added tracks back into the mix with each release, from the for-purchase version to the Disney+ streaming-exclusive cut, the 48-song The Eras Tour Movie (Taylor's Version) . Clocking in at over three hours, the Taylor's Version movie concert was the most complete viewing experience. Of course, the seven Tortured Poets Department songs that Swift debuted at her first Paris show has changed that. An impressive review of Taylor Swift's musical "eras," the revamped show would make for an exciting new concert movie .

Taylor Swift's First Eras Tour Show In Paris Is Being Filmed - Is A New Movie Coming?

Signs at swift's paris show indicate a new (& more complete) movie is on the horizon.

Fans who attended Taylor Swift's first Paris show were encouraged to smile — not just because they were about to enjoy an unforgettable concert, but because the performance was going to be captured on camera. According to The Eras Tour update page, Swift's May 9, 2024, show was " officially... filmed and recorded " (via X ). Notably, The Eras Tour movie was filmed across several nights during Swift's Los Angeles residency. It's possible the musician's team captured footage for promotional reasons, but, given the mastermind's past plans, it seems like something bigger will come of the recordings .

The European leg of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour kicked off on May 9 in Paris, France.

After the limited theatrical release of The Eras Tour movie , the film became available to rent for a period of time. Roughly five months after the concert movie hit theaters, it premiered on Disney+, becoming the streamer's biggest 2024 hit so far. As of May 2024, there's no physical version of The Eras Tour Movie available for purchase . Known for her many album variants, it's surprising that the artist hasn't put out a physical Blu-ray of the show. With the more complete version of the show, which boasts songs from Tortured Poets , being filmed, everything could change.

Taylor Swft: The Eras Tour movie features a highly talented roster of backup dancers and backing vocalists who accompany Swift onstage at every show.

How Taylor Swift Changed The Eras Tour Setlist To Include The Tortured Poets Department

Swift rearranged her entire eras tour setlist for ttpd.

In order to accommodate the seven tracks that Swift selected from her 31-song Tortured Poets double album , the 14-time Grammy-winning artist rearranged her entire Eras Tour setlist. Given the concert's staggering length, Swift was also forced to cut some fan-favorite tracks . While The Eras Tour still opens with the Lover era, it now moves around through the artist's discography as follows: Fearless , Red , Speak Now , Reputation , folklore/evermore , 1989 , The Tortured Poets Department , and Midnights . Sandwiched between Tortured Poets and Midnights are Swift's secret songs — two acoustic renditions of random tracks that didn't make the official setlist.

Not only were the sister projects [ folklore and evermore ] combined into one era, but Swift cut several songs from those beloved albums.

Undoubtedly, the folklore and evermore Eras took the biggest hits. Not only were the sister projects combined into one era, but Swift cut several songs from those beloved albums to make way for her latest release, including the emotional — and impressively staged — "tolerate it" from evermore . These cuts made way for the addition of a whopping seven songs from The Tortured Poets Department , including the album's lead single, "Fortnight," and stand-out viral hits like "Down Bad" and "I Can Do It with a Broken Heart."

Taylor Swift has released 11 albums (and re-recorded four) over the course of her 18-year career, some of which are better than others.

Why An Extended Version Of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Movie Makes Sense

Swifties who won't see the tortured poets department era live could experience it in movie form.

Although Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) seemed like it would be the definitive cut of the concert movie, the addition of The Tortured Poets Department era means that the at-home viewing experience is now incomplete. It's incredibly likely that Taylor Swift 's team to release an updated version with the Tortured Poets setlist wedged into the show — or coming in at the end as a surprise "after credits" feature. It only makes sense for the musician to release another extended version of the movie, as it would allow fans who went to previous tour stops to see the latest and greatest iteration of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour .

Performing the hits of her over seventeen-year career in music, The Eras Tour highlights Taylor Swift and her team as they put on a show of a lifetime.

Taylor Swift debuts ‘Tortured Poets’ songs live as Eras Tour resumes

Swift made some significant changes to the 3-hour-and-15-minute set when she kicked off the European leg of her record-shattering tour Thursday after a two-month break.

3 hour tour in

Taylor Swift’s record-shattering Eras Tour has essentially been a well-oiled, steady machine since it launched in March 2023 — she switched up a few songs on occasion, but mostly stuck to the same set list during the 3-hour-and-15-minute spectacle. And Swift’s loyal fan base has spent hours studying footage from around the world, with millions tuning in on fan-hosted live-streams to memorize every detail.

But on Thursday, Swift made some significant changes to the show for the first time as the tour kicked off its European leg at Paris La Défense Arena in Nanterre, France, for the first of four sold-out concerts. As many predicted, she debuted live performances of her songs from her 11th studio record, “The Tortured Poets Department,” a double album that contains 31 tracks and sold the equivalent of 2.61 million albums in its first week (combining physical sales and streams) when it dropped in mid-April .

🚨| Taylor Swift performing "Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me?" on 'The Eras Tour'! #ParisTSTheErasTour pic.twitter.com/O9FkuejQrN — The Eras Tour (@tswifterastour) May 9, 2024

“You are so present and it means the world to us as performers when you show up to a concert and when you act this way. … It makes us want to show you all kinds of fun surprises,” Swift, 34, told the extremely enthusiastic audience early in the night, calling the Eras Tour “the best experience of my life, honestly.”

The concert was live-streamed by fans on TikTok. One viewed by The Post featured a news ticker running at the bottom of the video with updates about the show: new outfits, new video screen visuals, a new order for some of the songs. Swift, who divides her set list into “eras” from her 18-year career, kicked off the “Tortured Poets” era about two hours into the concert with “But Daddy I Love Him” — a track that many interpret to be a message to her fan base about their, ah, extreme interest in her love life and the men she dates.

The Style section

“I’ll tell you something about my good name, it’s mine alone to disgrace,” Swift sang, running back and forth across the stage throughout. “… God save the most judgmental creeps who say they want what’s best for me, sanctimoniously performing soliloquies I’ll never see.” At the end, she sat down with her dancers and added a verse from “So High School” with lines that include “You know how to ball; I know Aristotle” — thought to be a reference to her boyfriend , the very famous football player Travis Kelce. (Swift did not sit for any interviews about the album and has provided very little detail for the ideas behind the lyrics.)

Even if they were being scolded, the fans loved it. The ecstatic screaming and cheering continued in the audience as Swift continued through “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?,” which appears to detail the downsides of fame, along with breakup anthems “Down Bad” and “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,” along with her new single with Post Malone, “Fortnight.” Swift added all kinds of new dance routines and set pieces, including one that made it look as if she were levitating across the stage.

And she performed a brief play before “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” an upbeat track about how she was able to perform on the Eras Tour even through heartbreak. Two magicians dragged her lifeless body to another part of the stage where they “forced” her to change into another sparkly outfit as she rolled her eyes and reluctantly got ready to dance.

“So you were the first crowd ever to see ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ chapter of the Eras Tour!” Swift said cheerfully during the next set where she played a couple of surprise acoustic songs. “Or as I like to call it, ‘Female Rage: The Musical.’”

Otherwise, many chapters of the show stayed the same. Though some wondered whether Swift would simply extend the concert to four hours, she cut six songs overall and condensed the “Folklore” and “Evermore” eras into one, explaining that she considers them “sister albums” because she recorded them during the same year early in the pandemic.

“I’ve always thought ‘Folklore’ to me represents spring and summer and ‘Evermore’ represents fall and winter. So on the Eras Tour, we have now reunited the sisters and combined them into one chapter,” she said. She wrapped up the concert with “Karma” a little after 11 p.m. Paris time after running through 45 songs, and thanked her dancers and band for learning all the new material.

The European leg of the Eras Tour will run through mid-August, and the tour will resume in the United States and Canada in the fall.
