YOUR FINANCIAL PROTECTION To comply with British and European travel package regulations, Coach Innovations Ltd operates a client account system to protect your money. We cannot access your money until your holiday is completed. Our client account is held at HSBC Solihull. You will be told the correct up to date price before you book. Once you choose a holiday & agree the price, please send a non-refundable deposit to confirm the booking. On acceptance of the deposit the Company will issue a confirmation invoice and at this stage contract comes into existence. Payment of the balance due must be made 8 weeks prior to departure. If the balance is not received by the due date, the Company reserves the right to cancel the booking and retain the deposit. If the booking is made within eight weeks of departure, full payment must be sent at the time of booking. Any money paid by the Client to a travel agent in respect of a booking with the Company, is held on behalf of the Company at all times. YOUR HOLIDAY PRICE Changes in transportation costs, including the cost of fuel dues, taxes or fees chargeable for services such as landing taxes or embarkation or disembarkation fees at ports and exchange rates mean that the price of your travel arrangements may change after you have booked. However there will be no change within 30 days of your departure. We will absorb and you will not be charged for any increase equivalent to 2% of the price of your travel arrangements, which excludes insurance premiums and any amendment charges. You will be charged for the amount over and above that, plus an administration charge of £1.00 per person together with an amount to cover agents' commission. If this means that you have to pay an increase of more than 10% of the price of your travel arrangements, you will have the option of accepting a change to another holiday if we are able to offer one (if this is of equivalent or higher quality you will not have to pay more but if it is lower quality you will be refunded the difference in price), or cancelling and receiving a full refund of all monies paid, except for any amendment charges. We will consider an appropriate refund of insurance premiums paid if you can show that you are unable to transfer or reuse your policy. Should you decide to cancel for this reason, you must exercise your right to do so within 7 days from the issue date printed on your final invoice. Should the price of your holiday go down due to the changes mentioned above, by more than 2% of your holiday cost, then any refund due will be paid to you. However, please note that travel arrangements are not always purchased in local currency and some apparent changes have no impact on the price of your travel due to contractual and other protection in place. ALTERATIONS BY THE CLIENT If you wish to alter your arrangements after your booking has been made, we will do our best to arrange this and, if possible, make these changes. Any request for changes must be made in writing by the person who made the booking. We will charge an amendment fee of £15.00 per person, and any other cost we incur in making the alteration. If after the commencement of a tour the Client requests any amendments to the agreed arrangements, or accommodation, the Company and/or its agents will do their best to implement such amendments, but cannot guarantee that it will be possible. In the event of any amendment the Client will be liable for any cancellation charges and / or additional costs that may be incurred by the Company and/or its agents. TRANSFER OF A BOOKING If any person named on a booking is prevented from travelling as a result of illness, the death of a close relative, jury service or significant reason, we will agree to that person’s booking being transferred to another person who satisfies all the conditions applicable to the package, subject to both persons accepting liability for full payment of the holiday cost and any additional costs arising from the transfer. This will also be subject to the agreement of our suppliers. We must be given at least 7 days written notice of the transfer request. An administration charge will be made of £60 per person for transfers made more than 61 days before departure. ALTERATIONS BY US It is unlikely that we will have to make any changes to your travel arrangements but we reserve the right to do so at any time. We plan arrangements a long time in advance of your holiday using independent suppliers such as ferries and hotels, over whom we have no direct control. Most of these changes are minor and we will advise you or your travel agent as soon as we are able. If we make a major change we will also endeavour to advise you or your travel agent as soon as reasonably possible. In the case of a major change before your departure we will provide you with three alternatives: alternative travel arrangements of equivalent or of very closely similar standard and price, if available. Alternative travel arrangements of a lower standard together with a refund of the difference in price; or cancel your holiday with a full refund of all monies paid. We will not be liable to pay any compensation if we are forced to cancel or in any way change your holiday as a result of unusual or unforeseeable situations outside our control, the consequences of which could not have been avoided even with all due care. These include unavoidable technical problems with transport, changes imposed by rescheduling or cancellation of flights by an airline or main charterer, the alteration of the airline or aircraft type, war or threat of war, civil strife, disputes, natural disaster, bad weather, epidemic or terrorist activity. Hotels described as First Class or Luxury are deemed so by us and not necessarily by any official grading. The assessment is based on our knowledge of the establishment, our general opinion and the standard of what is available locally. The term used i.e. deluxe, luxury suites etc are the same as those by the hotel in question. The Company does not own, manage or control the accommodation that it uses. Sometimes it is possible that the accommodation reserved is not available. In this event the Company and/or its agent will endeavour to provide accommodation of equal standard. However, if only accommodation of lesser standard is available we will refund the difference in prices on completion of the holiday. CANCELLATION BY THE CLIENT If you or anyone on your holiday booking decides to cancel the holiday you must notify us of the decision as soon as possible. Any notification by telephone must also be confirmed in writing or by e-mail within 24 hours by the person who made the original booking. Cancellation will take effect from the day we are notified provided that written confirmation is received by us within 24 hours of the original notification. A cancellation invoice will be sent to you within 7 days. If you do not receive this please contact us immediately in order to prevent an increase in charges. Should you already be in receipt of your airline tickets please return these to us with your cancellation request. The following scale of charges will be payable depending on when the notification of cancellation is received. More than 70 days before departure date Deposit forfeited Between 70 and 29 days 50% Within 28 Days before departure 100% Certain travel arrangements cannot be changed or cancelled without incurring a 100% cancellation charge. If this is the case, we will tell you before you cancel. It is a condition of booking that you take out full insurance which will, in most cases, include cover against loss of deposit or cancellation fees. Note: If, some, but not all-party members, cancel the holiday or part of it, additional charges may be payable by the remaining members. CANCELLATION BY US We reserve the right to cancel your holiday for any reason. If we have to cancel your holiday we will offer you alternative travel arrangements of equivalent or of very closely similar standard and price, if available travel arrangements of a lower standard and a refund of the difference in price; or a full refund of all monies paid. Compensation of £40 per person will also be paid unless the holiday is cancelled because you have failed to pay on time or as a result of circumstances beyond our control. If the UK Foreign Office specifically advises against travel to a particular destination, the Company will act on that advice and cancel holidays. The amount paid by you for the holiday will be refunded but no additional compensation will be paid. No compensation is payable if the holiday is cancelled because the number of persons who agreed to take it is less than the minimum number required and you are informed of the cancellation in writing within the period indicated in the description of the package. Coach Innovations Ltd may cancel without notice any skiing departure if there is insufficient snow. Clients will be offered an alternative date of their choice subject to availability. SKIING BREAKS & HOLIDAYS Coach Innovations Ltd may cancel any departure without notice on any skiing holiday if the company believes the customer will not get value for money such as no or insufficient snow. An alternative date will be offered without any additional charge subject to availability. No refund will be offered. YOUR RESPONSIBILITY You are responsible for obtaining valid passports, visas, vaccination certificates, health documents, foreign exchange for personal requirements etc. It is your responsibility to check entry requirements with the Embassy or Consulate of the country you plan to visit. You should also contact your GP in good time before you travel for health advice. You will be solely responsible if failure to obtain such documents results in your being unable to travel or refused entry or in fines, surcharges or other financial penalties being imposed on you. The Company has no liability whatsoever to you through your failure to do so. It is also your responsibility to comply with the laws, customs, foreign exchange and the drug regulations of the countries visited. The Company and its representatives reserve the right to cancel your holiday at any time if in our reasonable opinion you are found to be behaving in a socially unacceptable manner or indulging in illegal activities, without any refund and legal claim against the Company. Under EU law you have rights in some circumstances to refunds and/or compensation from your airline in cases of denied boarding, cancellation or delay to flights. Full details of these rights will be publicised at EU airports and will also be available from airlines. However this will not automatically entitle you to a refund of your holiday cost from us. If we make any payment to you or any member of your party for death, personal injury or illness, you must give us or our insurers the rights you may have to take action against the person or organisation responsible for causing the death, personal injury or illness and you must co-operate fully with us in seeking recovery of any payment we make. Travel Advice

Rail / London Underground

Wembley Stadium benefits from easy access to three rail / London Underground stations. These are:

Wembley Central Station (Bakerloo Line) Wembley Park Station (Jubilee & Metropolitan Line) Wembley Stadium Station (Chiltern Rail) – Chiltern Rail Services will operate from High Wycombe, Beaconsfield and Gerrards Cross to Wembley Stadium from 11.00, and return after the match. Post-match, fans are asked to leave the ground promptly and avoid opting for the last train of the day. Please allow for longer journey times from Wembley Stadium due to crowd safety controls for safe station access.

No-street-drinking zone

Brent Council have enforced a no-street-drinking zone on Olympic Way and the surrounding area for ALL events at Wembley Stadium.

This is part of the current Public Space Order Protection in place around the stadium on event days. More information on the order can be found here.

Fans drinking on Olympic Way and the surrounding streets ahead of the Bristol Street Motors Final will be asked to hand over their alcohol and enforcement action may be considered.

Supporters wanting alcohol before the game should head for the licensed bars or restaurants in the area or make their way to the dedicated fan zones outside the stadium.

Both teams have dedicated Fan Zone areas where supporters have the chance to join fellow fans to enjoy a drink, including alcohol, food and a DJ. They are an ideal place to soak up the pre-match party atmosphere

The Peterborough Fan Zone is located on the East Concourse area of the stadium and the Wycombe Fan Zone is on the West side of the stadium.

Supporters will need to present a valid stadium ticket to enter the area which has a limited capacity. The stadium’s bag policy (see below) also applies to anyone visiting the fan zone.

Stadium Security

We encourage fans to arrive at the stadium 60-90 minutes before kick off to allow enough time to assist with the security protocols. Anyone attempting to tailgate or gain illicit access to the stadium will be apprehended and reported to the Police.

All events at Wembley Stadium have a strong Police presence, and search dogs with handlers will also be patrolling around the stadium to identify and apprehend anyone with illegal or prohibited items, including pyrotechnics and banned substances.

Offensive Chanting

Wembley Stadium has a zero-tolerance policy on any form of anti-social, offensive and discriminatory conduct, and a nyone found guilty of this behaviour will be ejected from the stadium and reported to the authorities.

Offensive tragedy-related chanting, gesturing and displaying of abusive messages is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. People who are found to have committed offences face stadium bans and potential criminal prosecution.

Pyrotechnics

The use of pyrotechnics, flares and smoke devices inside or outside Wembley Stadium is illegal and prohibited. Anyone caught carrying or using pyrotechnical equipment inside the stadium will be immediately ejected from the stadium, banned from future events and dealt with by police. Those caught using pyrotechnic equipment anywhere outside of the stadium will be in breach of the PSPO order and face enforcement action. More information here.

Disabled supporters

Wembley Stadium is a welcoming and inclusive venue for all guests with access requirements. There are 310 places for wheelchair users, each with a personal assistant/companion seat. The stadium also provides a range of services for guests with specialist access requirements including a shuttle service from Wembley Park Station. More information can be found here.

Wembley Stadium operates a restricted bag policy. Each person can only bring one small bag into the stadium, and it must not be bigger than A4 size:

Height – 297mm (11.7 inches) - Width – 210mm (8.27 inches) - Depth – 210mm (8.27 inches)

Please note, this means the overall bag size – bags that are half-full and folded over to reduce their size will not be accepted. Anyone carrying bags that do not meet the criteria above will not be allowed into the stadium. A full list of prohibited items can be found here .

Persistent standing

Persistent standing during a match at Wembley Stadium is strictly forbidden (unless with a ticket for the safe standing area) and may result in ejection from the ground. Persistent standing not only compromises crowd safety, but also affects the matchday experience of fellow spectators, especially children and elderly people.

Bolton fans celebrate the semi-final win at Accrington.

Bolton back from brink to showcase resurgence with Wembley final

After nearly going out of business the League One club have undergone a huge turnaround with the fans’ trust rebuilt

“B olton is going to be a ghost town,” the club’s chief executive, Neil Hart, says as he looks forward to the Papa John’s Trophy final against Plymouth that will bring 34,000 of their fans to Wembley on Sunday. It is a huge turnaround for Wanderers, who were almost a ghost club, coming close to going out of business in 2019 after being issued with a winding-up petition.

Football Ventures purchased Bolton from Ken Anderson in the summer of 2019 but it took time to turn the ship around after years of decline. Trust with the supporters and local businesses needed to be rebuilt after a breakdown in relations over the way the club had been run by previous owners.

After back-to-back relegations, Bolton struggled to adapt to life in League Two, a 6-3 home defeat by Port Vale in December 2020 arguably the nadir. By mid-January they were 17th in the fourth tier but surged up the table under Ian Evatt, earning automatic promotion.

The upward trajectory has continued and Bolton are in their second consecutive season in League One, pushing for promotion with a bonus day out under the arch to celebrate their progress. “It’s not the be-all and end-all if we do get beat on Sunday,” says Ian Bridge, the secretary of the Bolton Wanderers Supporters’ Trust. “It will be a very good day out. After what we have been through in recent years, Bolton fans just want to be able to go watch our club on a Saturday afternoon rather than worrying about owners and winding-up orders.”

Staff and players had gone unpaid, resulting in tears in the office when the new chairman, Sharon Brittan, arrived with cake in 2019 after completing the purchase. Hart was a key appointment in 2021 to improve the club off the pitch to ensure they can progress on it. The former Burnley chief executive took it upon himself to rebuild relationships.

“When I met Sharon and came to this club, I just thought: ‘Wow, what an opportunity to be part of putting something back together,’” Hart says. “The club is on a stable footing financially with a good investor and ownership group behind it. I have found them [Football Ventures] a joy to work with, really straight and transparent. We are really clear on how we are operating financially.

Ian Evatt celebrates after a Bolton win

“My job has been to make sure the club is as strong as it can be commercially. We have tried to do that by re-engaging with the local business community through sponsorship deals with the big ticket items such as stadium naming rights. We have just done a record five-year deal with a local company, Toughsheet , that is more than Reebok were paying in the Premier League days.”

The foundations are in place that Bolton hope will help take them into the Championship sooner rather than later. As proved by their ticket sales for Wembley, there is a strong fanbase to build on. The club have 14,000 season-ticket holders and attracted a crowd of more than 25,000 at home to Derby.

The supporters’ trust, set up in 2016, had a frosty relationship with Anderson but things have improved since Hart’s arrival. A memorandum of understanding was agreed between the trust and club, who also had no objection to renewing the asset of community value order on the stadium, to protect it from being sold, the initial order coming in 2017 after it had been opposed by Anderson. They have official meetings every quarter and more informal conversations monthly, allowing fans to make proposals on everything from kit design to food and beverage at the stadium. “The dialogue is very good,” says Bridge, who is set to make his sixth visit to Wembley to see Bolton on Sunday. “We don’t always agree with everything but the club do listen.”

after newsletter promotion

The club and community are again linked, making the bond at Wembley even stronger. If Bolton had gone to the wall, it would have been catastrophic for the town. Bolton can host major events that would not have been possible if Wanderers had folded. The council was considering turning the ground into a lorry park had the unthinkable happened.

“Football clubs can have huge impacts on the town,” says Hart. “We are seeing it now where we can help develop business and the economic position in the town, we can work closely with the council. We had the England v France fixture in the Rugby League World Cup; that was huge for the town in terms of place and the benefits it brings in terms of shops, hotels and restaurants. We have Pink here for two nights in June to open her world tour. It is significant that the club plays its part in the town like that.”

Bolton show there is a way back from the brink. Win or lose at Wembley, the fact the Trotters are there is worth celebrating and they will be hoping to be back in May for a playoff. “Everyone wants instant success,” Bridge says. “I am just happy knowing we will definitely have a club next season and not every fan can say that.”

Bolton fans long journey to Wembley worth every mile

Reporter, ITV Granada Reports

bolton wanderers coach travel wembley

They boarded coaches and left in cars in the early hours of Sunday morning. 34,000 Bolton Wanderers fans made the long journey to Wembley, but it was well worth it.

Never mind traffic jams on the M40, and £7 a pint, Bolton supporters revelled in the success of winning their first piece of knock-out silverware since 1989.

Both young and old didn't mind the 400 mile round trip as Bolton ran out comfortable 4-1 winners against Plymouth Argyle in the EFL final.

Among the 80,000 at Wembley were famous Boltonians like Vernon Kay and Paddy McGuinness.

Bolton fan Emma Trickett-Bell was at Wembley 12 years ago when the Whites were beaten in an FA Cup semi final. A very different story in the 2023 EFL final.

Emma said: "It was an unbelievable and unforgettable day. I honestly cannot comprehend what I witnessed.

"I can only say I've never been prouder to be a Bolton Wanderers fan."

Dion Charles, the scorer of Bolton's second goal said:" My whole body went numb when it went in the back of the net. I didn't know how to celebrate!

"It was a brilliant result and gave the travelling fans something happy to go home with."

And we reckon the journey back up the motorway for the fans didn't seem that long on what was a very special day.

Plymouth Argyle confirm coach travel arrangements to Papa Johns Trophy final

Plymouth Argyle are working to get as many coaches as possible to take the Green Army to Wembley for the Papa Johns Trophy final against Bolton Wanderers on Sunday, April 2.

The club are teaming up with supporters' group Green Taverners, who will provide the stewarding for all of the official coaches making the trip from Home Park.

The cost will range between £55 for adult miles Away Travel Club members to £60 for non-members, with coaches leaving from outside the Devonport End at 6am on the day of the final.

Read More: Argyle minority owners linked with takeover of Israeli club

Argyle have stated they will not be making any money out of the service and are just looking to do what they can to cover their costs.

The club have pointed out the costs of both hiring and fuelling the coaches, as well as parking at Wembley, are high.

Argyle said in a statement: We are pleased to confirm that we will be working alongside supporters’ group the Green Taverners to provide a joint coach travel service to Wembley for the Papa Johns Trophy Final.

"Procuring enough coaches and support staff to provide transit to the thousands of members of the Green Army requiring coach travel to the national stadium is no easy operation, and so we are thankful to the Green Taverners once again for their support of the club.

"The Green Taverners will provide stewarding support for all official coach services heading to Wembley from Home Park, and the aim is to provide as many coaches as possible for supporters.

"Please note that there are logistical challenges in this regard. The fleet of available coaches in the region of Devon and Cornwall is small by national standards, and the costs of both hiring and fuelling these coaches as well as parking at Wembley Stadium are high.

"For the avoidance of all doubt, the club will not make a penny of profit for this service, we will simply do what we can to cover our costs while laying on as many coaches as possible for our wonderful supporters to enjoy just our third ever trip to Wembley Stadium.

"Coach travel will be priced at £55 for adult Miles Away Travel Club members, £53 for junior members, and £60 for non members. Coach tickets will be available from 11am on Tuesday via argyletickets.com ."

Argyle supporters making the trip to Wembley for the final should consider that there is a planned rail strike affecting train services to and from London on Saturday, April 1.

Bolton Wanderers book first trip to Wembley in over a decade

Here's hoping for a positive result than last time.

It was a massive night for Bolton Wanderers as they booked their place in the EFL Trophy final, securing their first visit to Wembley since 2011.

Beating Accrington Stanley 2-0 on the road with a quickfire pair of goals from Elias Kachunga and Aaron Morley in the 82nd and 84th, the Trotters managed to book themself into the Papa Johns Trophy final 100 years on from their first-ever trip to the iconic English stadium.

The hosts were forced to play with 10 men after just 20 minutes or so which might sound like an advantage for Bolton , but it also made for a very tense and defensive display, meaning they had to battle for a win at the Wham.

Nevertheless, Ian Evatt’s side managed to break down the low block in some stunning scenes.

Set to face off against fellow League One club Plymouth Argyle on April 2, this will be Bolton’s 14th showing at Wembley in their nearly 150-year history. Last time they were there they got pumped 5-0 by Stoke City in the FA Cup semi-final.

As one of the oldest clubs in the world (1874) and one of the founding members of the football league in 1888, their recent history has been a turbulent one, to say the least, nearly going bust altogether back in 2019 and only being saved by the taxpayer, pandemic loans and a last-minute buyout .

That being said, it’s no wonder that the fans erupted in ecstasy when the full-time whistle blew and an almost requisite pitch invasion ensued.

Speaking after the game, Evatt admitted : “This is probably the most nervous I’ve ever been in my career. This is the first time I’ve felt a bit of pressure because I wanted it so much for so many people.

“Most importantly, the fans. They’ve been through so much and now, to have a Wembley cup final is something to be incredibly proud of.”

It isn’t the only big news for Bolton this week, though, as on Monday the Wanderers finally announced the new name for their iconic stadium. Safe to say it’s tickled a few…

We’ll let you decide which is the bigger story:

Well, Mancs, it’s that time again – time to lace up our running shoes, get our homemade signs at the ready and pray for good weather as the Manchester Marathon is nearly here and we have tips.

2024 is already shaping up to be a historic year for one of Europe’s most popular races and the UK’s second flattest marathon (good news for those of you taking part) and we genuinely can’t wait to see the city and the rest of Greater Manchester buzzing with excitement as hordes of runners descend on 0161.

But before we come flying out of the traps too fast, you know what they say: fail to prepare, prepare to fail. Luckily, we’re sure all of you wonderful people have been putting the same graft into training as you do any other day. Nevertheless, we’ve still got some extra bits of useful advice for this final week.

And it’s not just from us part-time runners; Team GB Olympic marathon runner and professional adidas athlete, Steph Kessell (née Davis) has been kind enough to share her seven biggest tips to make sure you’re all sorted for when you hear the starting pistol. Let’s hand it over to the expert, shall we?

steph kessell runner team gb

Seven top tips for the 2024 adidas Manchester Marathon

In the final week, your overall training volume and intensity should have dropped to less than 50% so you can get to the start line of the marathon feeling fresh and raring to go.

Your last higher-intensity session should be four to five days before the marathon and include some marathon-paced intervals, but not many of them! You can find suggested event week sessions in the Manchester Marathon training plans HERE .

Sounds simple but we can’t stress enough how big a step this is as sleep is the most important recovery aid. Hopefully, you have been getting plenty of sleep throughout your training block but during this final week prioritise early nights and aim to get your 8 hours.

It’s common to not sleep very well the night before the challenge but don’t stress; if you’ve been able to sleep well in the build-up, then this won’t affect your event. If you can’t sleep, try to stay in bed and relax – this is still good rest and recovery time.

how much water should i drink during a marathon

Again, sounds simple but so crucial. You want to go into race day feeling hydrated, as dehydration has a negative effect on performance, even if it’s not that warm outside. Carry a water bottle around with you to remind you to drink regularly aiming for at least 1.5 litres a day right up until the big day.

If you have some electrolyte tabs handy then take one daily as well as one the evening before the event to ensure you are extra hydrated come your start time.

4. Make sure to prep your kit properly

If you haven’t worn your event day kit for a run yet, then this is your final chance to test it out. You want to feel comfortable, wear the right amount of layers and avoid chafing. Nothing is more annoying than being distracted by an itchy hat or the wrong pair of undies (yeah, we said it).

From sports bras, socks, heart rate monitors, race belts and hydration packs, try absolutely everything that you plan to wear when it’s go-time the night before at the very least, so that way you can feel confident on the start line.

5. Strategise

At the start of event week write out a plan for the event day. What pace will you start at? When will you take on fuel? Where are the water, gels and toilet stops? It all counts and most importantly helps keep you in control. When you’ve planned this out in advance and read over it again and again before the day, it’ll help you feel more relaxed and confident because you already what you’re going to do.

A detailed plan can also be a good distraction from the nerves as it gives you something to focus on. Break it down into five to seven stages or so and take each part as it comes. You can find info on all of this HERE .

manchester marathon route

6. Plan how you’re getting there

Another one that will help ease your nerves. Don’t leave it until the morning of to decide how you are going to travel there. Plan out your route and leave plenty of time to get there.

A leisurely start to the day will be more pleasant than a last-minute frantic dash trying to find the bag drop and loos. You can find plenty of useful travel information and more in our full guide to the 2024 Manchester Marathon .

7. Stay warm

We mean this both figuratively and literally. Marathons often require an early start which means it can be cold (and it is Manchester, after all), so as well as warming up, stretching and keeping those limbs loose, bring a top or jumper you want to donate to charity to keep you warm at the start line.

At the Manchester Marathon , you can keep wearing this right up until the end of the start chute where you will see signs to show you where to donate it as you get close to the start gantry — just make sure that you don’t drop it too early! It’s a nice touch that we love.

  • Team GB will wear standard Union Jack at Paris 2024 Olympics after outrage over twist on flag

And that should just about do ya’. We’re strong believers in preparation playing a key part in all walks of life and, in this case, the bits where you’re running too. Cheers for the help, Steph.

At the end of the day, it’s also worth reminding that the Manchester Marathon is also just an incredible day for the city and the region as a whole too, so tips or not just go out there and enjoy it.

We’re glad to inform you that we’ll have feet on the ground representing The Manc as well, so you’re not this alone – in fact, far from it as there’s a record 32,000 of us taking part this year.

See you on the finish line!

Human remains found near Manchester United's club academy and old training ground The Cliff

A woodland area in Salford has been closed off after human remains were reportedly found right near Manchester United’s old training ground, The Cliff.

Discovered in the Kersal Wetlands, just yards away from Man United ‘s former first team facility where club academy operations and some matches still take place, Greater Manchester Police and forensics officers are now investigating what are said to be human remains left wrapped in plastic.

According to The Telegraph , who first reported the story on Friday, 5 April, the evidence was found around 5:30pm on Thursday afternoon and a murder investigation is now underway after a pathologist confirmed the remains to be that of a human.

Although details are still scarce, having first been reported as an ‘unknown item’ by passers-by, it is now thought that they had been left in the area for anywhere between 24 to 36 hours.

#WATCH | We’re investigating the discovery of human remains found at Kersal Wetlands in #Salford yesterday. Our priority is establishing who this person is & ensuring that we carry out a diligent and respectful investigation with this person and their family at the heart of it. pic.twitter.com/EZ7IMvoyzQ — Greater Manchester Police (@gmpolice) April 5, 2024

No clear identifying marks were found on the remains and specifics like gender, age and ethnicity of the person have not yet been revealed.

A post-mortem is due to be carried out but as no full body has been discovered, authorities will likely be unable to determine a cause of death, however, the nature of what was found means “it would not be possible for the victim to have survived”.

For now, a large police cordon has been put in place around the predominantly wooded surround which covers around 32 hectares just north of Manchester city centre .

Detective Superintendent Lewis Hughes from GMP’s Serious Crime Division said in a statement that the area will remain sealed off to the public “for some time, whilst we work to unravel what exactly has happened here.”

DS Hughes went on to add: “I want to assure the local community that although this is a disturbing and unsettling find, we have a large visible presence in the area to complete enquiries, provide reassurance and to listen to any concerns.

“I encourage anyone who may have relevant information to speak to these officers. The victim has not yet been identified, but we know that behind this discovery there will be a family who have lost a loved one, and we want to make sure they are supported as quickly as possible.

“Anyone who thinks they may have witnessed something suspicious in the Kersal Dale area over the last few days could be key to unlocking what happened. I would ask that anyone who has any information that may be relevant to our enquiries, no matter how big or small, comes forward by calling 101 and quoting log number 2695 of 4 April 2024 .”

As always, any details you may have and feel could be useful can also be passed on anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers online or by calling 0800 555 111 .

Peterborough 2-1 Wycombe: Harrison Burrows' late double wins Bristol Street Motors Trophy for Posh

Football

Peterborough lifted the Bristol Street Motors Trophy for the second time, 10 years after their first triumph, after Harrison Burrows' brilliant late double earned a 2-1 win over Wycombe at Wembley.

It took until the 85th minute for Posh - who had a first-half penalty appeal turned down - to edge in front through captain Burrows' piledriver.

But within four minutes, substitute Dale Taylor volleyed the Chairboys level seconds after his introduction to seemingly leave extra-time a formality.

Yet in the first minute of second-half stoppage time, Burrows popped up again with a cross-come-shot that looped over goalkeeper Franco Ravizzolo and into the top left corner to secure the trophy for Darren Ferguson - who oversaw the win over Chesterfield 10 years and seven days earlier.

How Posh prevailed at Wembley

As with many Wembley finals in years gone by, the game started in a cagey manner as the teams settled into playing on the vast pitch and in front of a crowd of over 42,000, which included Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson - father of the Peterborough boss.

Penalty appeal

Wycombe have had plenty of experience at the national stadium in recent years and it showed, as they pressed high in order to try and prevent Peterborough playing out from the back and reaching their potent forward line.

Shots came at a premium in the first half-hour, but then the game started to come alive. Garath McCleary forced a last-ditch save from Jed Steer after an intuitive ball from Freddie Potts, while at the other end, Ricky-Jade Jones was denied by a superb block from Chris Forino, before Josh Knight flashed a header across the face of goal from the corner that followed.

Peterborough

Posh appealed for a penalty with seven minutes of the first half remaining, when Kwame Poku swept a shot towards goal that appeared to strike the hand of Luke Leahy as he made the block. Referee Scott Oldham seemingly did not spot it.

Shortly after the break, Hector Kyprianou got on the end of a trademark cross from Harrison Burrows, but put his header the wrong side of the post under pressure, and Wycombe even had the ball in the back of the net after 56 minutes, though Steer was adjudged to have been fouled before Kone hooked the ball into the empty net.

EFL Trophy

Peterborough had dominated the ball and it seemed as though it would just be a matter of time before their quality told, but the opener did not come until the last five minutes of the 90, when Burrows jinked to his left and fired in with power and via a slight deflection.

Their delight was shortlived, though. A free-kick from deep was headed away, with Taylor watching it all the way and lashing in on the volley to, naturally, give Wycombe hope.

Harrison Burrows' double sealed victory for Peterborough at Wembley

That, too, was dashed shortly after, though. Peterborough made sure of the victory in the 91st minute when Burrows - whether he meant it or not - found the top corner as the final ended in the most dramatic fashion.

Ferguson: We'll celebrate tonight, but we won't go too mad!

Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson :

"We didn't start well. In the first 20 minutes, we didn't have any rhythm to our game. They are such a hard team to play against. Matt's done such a great job and they never give in, that team. Even when it went to 2-1, I thought 'we're not done yet', but, overall, I thought we deserved to win it. If you come to Wembley, win.

"I said before the game, the only opportunity at our level to get to Wembley is the play-offs or this tournament. They can celebrate tonight. They've got to celebrate these things and I'll celebrate with them - but we won't go mad as we'll be in tomorrow.

"The main thing is the league and this is a bonus. We think we've still got a chance [of automatic promotion]. We're going to have to go some, but it's about winning the next league game, which is Wednesday."

Bloomfield: It wasn't meant to be for Wycombe

Wycombe manager Matt Bloomfield :

"I reflect with pride in the performance - I thought we were absolutely excellent. With the tactical information we got in the boys this week, I thought they carried out the gameplan. We got ourselves back level and had high hopes from there, but sometimes it's not meant to be.

"Take nothing away from Peterborough, I think it was a fantastic advert for League One football, with two really good teams trying to play the right brands of football, trying to create and I thought we were excellent, but equally Peterborough had their chances.

"When a goal like that goes in against you, it's a cruel feeling for it to decide the game and for it to be so long and you don't have a chance to come back. It was obviously not meant to be for us today."

What's next?

Both teams are straight back into Sky Bet League One action in three days' time on Wednesday April 10 at 7.45pm.

Automatic promotion-chasing Peterborough host Port Vale at the Weston Homes Stadium, while Wycombe welcome second-placed Derby to Adams Park.
