Dubai International Airport

Dubai International Airport operated with more than 86 million customers in 2019 , making it one of the world’s busiest airports for international passengers and the sixth busiest cargo airport. Concourse D serves all international airlines which operate in Terminal 1. While Concourse A is used exclusively by Emirates Airlines in Terminal 3.

Dubai International Airport Code, Location, and Contact Information

  • Airport Code: DXB
  • Location: Dubai International Airport is located in the Al Garhoud district, just 2.5 miles east of Dubai (around 20 minutes from the city center)
  • Phone number:  +971 4 224 5555
  • Website : https://www.dubaiairports.ae
  • Flight Tracker: https://ar.flightaware.com/live/airport/OMDB

Know Before You Go

Dubai International Airport consists of 3 terminals. Terminals 1 and 3 are connected and passengers can change terminals by foot or rail system without going through security twice. Terminal 2 is located separately from the other two but is accessible via shuttle buses, which takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes depending on if leaving from Terminal 1 or 3. Additionally, there is the Executive Flight Terminal, which is located next to Terminal 2. It hosts flights for high-end and premium travelers.

It’s a good idea to look up which terminal your flight is arriving at and departing from if you have a connecting flight to ensure enough time to move about from terminal to terminal. Emirates mostly operates out of Terminal 3 in Concourse A and can handle more than 19 million passengers. Terminal 1 has three floors and hosts about 60 international carriers while Terminal 2 operates mostly flights coming and departing to and from countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar).

Dubai International Airport Parking

Dubai International Airport has short and long-term parking lots in front of each terminal. Short term parking is most ideal if you are planning to be the airport for 5 hours or less. Anything longer than 5 hours and you should take the long term parking option. Airport shuttle buses are available to move you from the long term parking area, which can be a bit further away from the terminals.

Both Terminals 1 and 2 offer premium parking, which is located closer to the terminals, and economy parking which is located around a 10-minute walk from the terminals. The fee for the economy parking lots ranges from $5 for the first hour up to $20 for the day. Premium ranges from $7.50 for the first hour up to $30 for the day.

Driving Directions

The Dubai International Airport is located in the Al Garhoud district, which is about 2.9 miles (5 kilometers) east of downtown Dubai. It can be accessed either off the Airport Road (D89), which runs in a south-easterly direction from Dubai city center, on the eastern side of Dubai Creek or, via Al Quds Street, which runs across the northern border of Dubai Airport.

Beirut Street also runs along the eastern side of the Dubai Airport. It’s an additional road that leads to the terminal building access roads. Dubai International Airport is also located directly across from the number 11 motorway and Dubai Shopping Center.

Public Transportation and Taxis

The Dubai Metro is the easiest option to transport to DXB. It connects the airport to the city via two lines that operate from 6 a.m. until 11 p.m. during the week and from 1 p.m. until midnight on Fridays. The hours of operation may differ during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. The Red Line stations are located at Terminals 1 and 3, while the Green Line station is located near the Airport Free Zone, which passengers can use to access Terminal 2.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) also operates buses that connect to the airport. The bus stations are located at the arrivals hall in each of the three terminals at the airport. The F04 Feeder bus departs from Terminal 2 and connects DXB to downtown. While the C01 bus departs from Terminal 3, it connects the airport with the Al Satwa bus station, which can be used to get to Dubai central.

Lastly, government taxis are a viable option through the Dubai Taxi Agency. Taxis depart from the arrivals hall of each terminal of the airport and are available 24 hours a day. There is a $5 service charge fee, and an additional $0.50 per kilometer traveled.

Where to Eat and Drink

Being a world-renown airport hub, there's a vast offering of foods from around the globe for an international traveler at Dubai International Airport. Each terminal has a mix of bars, cafes, and restaurants to choose from no matter your dining pleasure.

At Terminal 1, some of the dining options include Chowking Orient Restaurant, Nestle Toll House Cafe , and JB Co. For those looking for a quick bite or morning joe, Costa Coffee and Starbucks are available.

At Terminal 2, an even greater amount of dining options is available for the discerning traveler. Taste of India , McDonald's, Bombay Chowpatty, Subway, Krispy Kreme , and even Pulp Juice Bar are accessible.

Handy snacks and bites are offered at Terminal 3 including Giraffe, Jack's Bar & Grill, Le Pain Quotidien , and Ocean Basket . Upscale dining options are also located in Terminal 3 such as Red Carpet Cafe & Seafood Bar, Caviar House, Wafi Gourmet Restaurant Lebanese cuisine, and Moet & Chandon Champagne Bar, which is inside of the Emirates business class lounge in concourse B.

Where to Shop

Considering that Dubai is known for its opulent shopping options like the Dubai Mall , then it is no surprise that the airport would also be a hub for fabulous shopping. From top-end designer clothing shops to perfume and even confectionary, the duty-free shops located at all three terminals in Dubai International Airport has it all.

Some of the high-end jewelers are located within the duty-free shopping area at Terminal 3 including Pandora, Swarovski, and Bvlgari. Terminal 1, specifically, offers an area for gold and additional fine jewels. Each terminal offers technology shops such as Du and Etisalat.

One of the top-selling items within DXB’s duty-free shopping areas include perfumes from luxury brands like Armani, Prada, Dior, Tom Ford, and Diesel. Luggage and suitcases are also available widely throughout the duty-free shopping areas carrying brands such as Samsonite, Diesel, and Porsche. Therefore, don’t fret if you didn’t bring enough bags with you to stuff with your shopping items, just buy a new one. High fashion brands such as Chanel are available in Terminal 3.

Alcohol and cigarettes are also available within duty-free as well. Nevertheless, please note that the passengers are allowed to carry 1 liter of spirits or 2 liters of fortified wine when leaving the airport.

Make sure to monitor advisories and visa status before your trip.

You can fly into the Dubai International Airport or the newer Al Maktoum International Airport

There are a handful of airports you can fly through, but the Dubai International Airport (DXB) is the primary one.

According to Visit Dubai , the DXB has been the main gateway to the emirates since the first airstrip was developed in the 1960s. Here, you can use Smart Gates to fast-track your airport experience.

You can use the red and green lines from the Dubai Metro to get from the DXB through the busier parts of the city. You'll just need to buy a Nol card or a single-use ticket to hop on and off the transportation system, but keep in mind you're only allowed to carry two luggages per patron.

You can also take a bus or use a taxi from the Dubai Transport Corporation to get there, but check the Roads and Transport Authority  (RTA) for more information. Driving in is also an option, considering there are parking spaces in all three terminals.

According to Dubai's government , all passengers traveling from any point of origin must provide a negative COVID‑19 RT‑PCR test certificate, so make sure to take one and have it ready before your departure.

Flying Emirates to or through Dubai? Here’s what you need to know

From the tests needed to the documents you'll have to show, here’s helpful information for flying to dubai as a resident, tourist or transit passenger.

Dubai is open for travel. The emirate has been welcoming tourists since July.

Emirates Airlines has resumed flights to and from several cities around the world, and is now flying to more than 70 destinations worldwide, with Conakry and Dakar the latest additions to the network, and the Bangkok route restarting on September 1.

Things on Emirates flights look a little different now than they did pre-pandemic, so even if you’re a frequent flyer with the Dubai airline you may be wondering what to expect if you’re flying anytime soon.

From what documents you need before you travel to the service to expect on board, here’s everything you need to know before you take your next flight to Dubai.

Do I need permission to fly with Emirates?

If you are a Dubai resident, then you will need permission from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) before you can fly into Dubai. You will not be able to book your Emirates flight without this permission, which can be requested here . The application will ask for your Resident File Number, which can be found on your visa.

Non-Dubai residents no longer need permission to return to the country and can book with Emirates to fly home via Dubai. Tourists can also book flights with Emirates with no additional permission needed before travelling.

What documents do I need to have before I fly?

Dubai residents need their approval from the GDRFA as well as a valid UAE residency visa. Travellers with visas that have expired while they've been out of the country can return without penalties. All other UAE residents need the same documents that have always been required to fly in or out of Dubai – passport and residency visa.

Tourists must check what type of visa they need to travel to Dubai. The emirate is issuing visas on arrival and visit visas that should be applied for before flying, your nationality will dictate which one you need.

Travellers, including transit passengers, must complete a health declaration form that Emirates staff will request at check-in. Ideally you will fill this in and print it off before you fly, however forms should be available at most airports if you haven’t managed to do so.

Travellers should also download and install the Covid-19 DXB Smart App before flying and be ready to show negative coronavirus test results.

Will I need a coronavirus test?

Everyone arriving into Dubai needs to take a coronavirus test before they fly, this applies to tourists and residents of all emirates.

Travellers must show a negative Covid-19 PCR test certificate before being accepted on any Emirates flight. These tests results cannot be substituted for laser test results or any other type of test.

“Other test certificates including antibody tests and home testing kits are not accepted in Dubai," clarified Emirates.

Certificates must be for a swab test that is taken a maximum of 96 hours before the departure time of flights to Dubai, although this period may be less, depending on where you are travelling from so check the requirements before flying.

Children and passengers who have a moderate or severe disability are exempt from the test requirement.

Where can I be tested?

The UAE government has specified a list of approved clinics where passengers flying from some countries – including India, Pakistan and Bangladesh – must take their Covid-19 tests.

Travellers flying to Dubai from most other countries can choose to use a recommended laboratory from the same list or be tested at any “trusted and certified laboratories” in their country of origin. For travellers flying from the UK, NHS test results are being accepted on Emirates flights, however this could change in the future.

Can I show test results on my phone?

No, you cannot show an email or digital version of your test results. This differs from procedures in place inside the UAE for crossing into Abu Dhabi from other emirates where a digital report is accepted.

For boarding an Emirates flight, travellers must “bring an official, printed certificate – text message and digital certificates are not accepted,” says the airline.

What’s changed on the flight?

Expect all Emirates crew to be wearing PPE on flights, passengers must wear face masks for the duration of flights. Courtesy Emirates

Travellers can expect a few changes on Emirates flights. All passengers will be given a complimentary hygiene kit containing a mask, gloves, hand sanitiser and antibacterial wipes.

You’ll need to wear the mask for the duration of your flight, except for when you are eating or drinking. Children under six years old and customers with certain medical conditions who have completed a preflight medical information form may be exempt from wearing masks.

Temperatures are likely to be taken before you board your flight and the boarding process has also changed, with passengers now boarding the aircraft in small groups, and with those seated at the back of the aircraft boarding first.

There is no more duty free service on flights and all reading materials – such as complimentary newspapers and magazines – have been removed. In Economy class, don’t expect menu cards – instead cabin crew wearing personal protective equipment will tell travellers what is being served. Food and snacks are also being served in sealed packages, so expect a slightly different meal than what you might have been given pre-pandemic.

If you're flying business or first class, you'll have to do without social areas such as the A380 lounge and there is currently no access to on-board shower spas.

Travellers with Dubai as a final destination will be given ‘quarantine undertaking’ forms during flights. These must be completed to hand to the authorities upon arrival at Dubai International Airport.

The forms confirm that travellers will self quarantine until they receive any outstanding Covid-19 PCR test results, and will isolate for 14 days if results are positive. It’s also a good idea to keep your boarding pass in a safe place, you may be asked for it as you navigate through the airport in Dubai.

What should I expect at Dubai International Airport?

Arriving passengers should hand their completed quarantine forms to Dubai Health Authority officials. All passengers will pass through thermal scanners where temperatures will be checked. Some travellers will have to undergo another PCR test when they land in Dubai. This is dependent on various factors, including symptoms and coronavirus case numbers in the country you’re travelling from. Travellers who do need to be tested will not need to pay for the process.

Passengers who take a PCR test on arrival must self isolate until they receive their results. “You may need to take another Covid-19 PCR test on arrival. If you take a test at the airport, you must remain in your residence or hotel until you receive the test result,” explains Emirates.

What happens if I have a connecting flight?

Transit passengers can also expect to pass through thermal scanners, and anyone showing signs of Covid-19 will be tested for the virus. Once cleared from the Medical Centre, passengers can continue to the departure gate.

If this causes travellers to miss a connecting flight, Emirates will rebook passengers on to the next flight and provide accommodation at Dubai International Airport Hotel if required. However, if test results come back positive for transit passengers, they will need to follow the advice of the Dubai Health Authority and quarantine in Dubai for 14 days.

All travellers are advised to check the latest requirements for their country of origin and their intended destination regularly before travelling because rules and restrictions can change with very little notice.

Dubai: As UAE residents gear up for nine days long Eid Al Fitr holidays, Dubai International Airport (DXB) has shared tips for travellers to cope with expected massive rush. More people are expected to travel this season because the Eid break also coincides with the school spring break.

Dubai International (DXB), the world’s leading airport for international passenger traffic, is preparing to welcome an estimated 3.6 million guests during April 2-15.

During this period, the daily traffic is set to exceed 258,000 guests on average, with particularly busy weekends forecasted. Saturday, April 13, is expected to be the busiest day, with total guest numbers soaring to 292,000.

Whether travellers are returning home for the holidays, arriving in Dubai to partake in the festivities, or simply passing through, Dubai Airports, together with airlines and service and commercial partners, is committed to ensuring a truly memorable experience for all guests, says DXB in a press release on Tuesday.

Travel tips during peak season

Pre-weigh luggage at home, organise documents in advance, and be prepared for security checks to minimise stress and delays.

Remember to pack spare batteries and power banks in your hand luggage.

Farewell goodbyes should be exchanged at home, as only passengers will be permitted inside the terminals during peak periods.

Utilise the Dubai Metro to get to and from the airport as well as between Terminals 1 and 3 in case of congestion on the roads.

Emirates passengers can take advantage of the airline’s convenient home, early and self check-in facilities, including city check-in options.

flydubai passengers are advised to arrive at least four hours before departure.

Guests flying with other airlines should aim to arrive at DXB no earlier than three hours before their scheduled departure time, utilising online check-in where available to save time.

Families with children over 12 can expedite the passport control process by using Smart Gates.

Stay informed about the latest travel regulations for your destination and ensure you have all necessary travel documents ready.

Access to the arrivals’ forecourts in both Terminals 1 and 3 is restricted to public transport and authorised airport vehicles only. Visitors picking up guests should utilise DXB’s designated car parks or valet services.

Top 5 airlines flying to dubai.

Flight from Dubai to Zagreb very bad cabin crew. Bad food

Staff were friendly, and provided great service. The food was plentiful and delicious. Food could have been hotter.

More leg room and comfortable seats at least for long flights

The entertainment selections are amazing. But the live TV is sometimes spotty. If you’re going to have it, then have it. If you can’t make it consistent, then, perhaps it’s better not to have it. The crew are always cordial when approached, but they seem to do the minimum and sit around, talking to each other in the back of the plane during the flight. I realize that delays are not always predictable, but I missed my flight in Dubai because we left 90 minutes late from Washington. I will say that Emirates took very good care of me in Dubai. But I would rather not be delayed.

Probably the best flight I’ve ever been on. Emirates first class is leagues beyond British airways and Lufthansa’s.

Great flight. Comfortable seats, courteous service, and excellent selection for entertainment.

Serving food took so long . Almost time close to lend. Plus during landing air pressure in cabin cuss ear blocked took long time to unblock.

Emirates is usually on time, but not this trip. Also, during the flight the attendants disappear unless called upon. Very strange. I have watched the quality of Emirates service diminish over the last five years.

Food was not great. Crew members were created hassle with attitude at the gates and wasted my valuable time. I have been traveling in Emirates airlines many times. Over all not happy flying in Emirates airlines this time. Seats are very small and not comfortable. Seats looks like very very old and congested. It would be nice if they fix these kind of issues. I hope my next trip will be hassle free and comfortable journey in Emirates airlines. Thank you.

CREW manager was rude and nasty Crew was not friendly either and had discriminatory attitude.

On 2 different flights the wifi was horrible and there was no drink or snack service.

Wifi wasn’t working well so we couldn't view any media.

Flight was late. Club was full. Experience is exactly what I expected.

Carly the flight attendant was extremely helpful and very accommodating to passengers on the flight from what I noticed. Couldn't be more satisfied with the service and assistance from Delta's flight attendant, Thanks again Carly!!

I didn’t not like that I could not select my seat and ended up with the worse seat.

I didn’t like that I could not select my seat and was assigned a seat when I checked in at LAX

Delta did an awful job w logistics at DTW. Missed connection. We were there an hour early. SUCKED

Inflight entertainment stopped working as we taxi to runway and never worked again until landing and taxi to gate. Grrrr

Had to run to make it only to have the flight delayed to wait for all the late connectors Second drink service skipped up

Boarding was a sh!t show. JFK BOARDING was awful. The agent called three sections at a time Clogging the area then yelling at people to not block the walk way. How are you going to call delta one , premium select and comfort plus at once and the yell at highest paying passengers. Need to do a lot better and the flight attendants in the galley need to understand that their voices travel. They were talking about others and everyone in the cabin heard them

Qatar airways from Doha to guangzhau was excellent big bird Boeing 777 more room and smoothly flight, I Love it

It was good no problems made it on time for the next flight overseas!

The made us waiting and held our passports and boarding pass making us miss our flights

Not impressed. Only allowed one carry on on such a long flight.

The flight was good but my neighbor had the vent open full power for the whole flight and because the air was blowing from the side instead of from the top and I got very cold and ended up with a sore throat.

Bad experience with the delay n long wait time for connecting flight after missing the connection flight from Doha.

Wore experience due to delay and took me 3 days to reach my destination.

All over with Qatar airlines my experience was really bad due to delays and then putting me on different airlines and after 8 hours of wait I had to listen to their is no plane to fly for another 24 hours. Wore experience ever.

Excellent will be flying again in May with Qatar. to Botswana.

Ultimate customer care humble and excellent service oriented crew , perfect timing maintained by the crew . My profound appreciation.

Quality of service on board was very inconsistent. FA service primarily seemed robotic and they barely engaged with passengers

I’m unclear why I had to pay extra for assigned seats as Turkish airlines did not honor the seating. We were placed across the aisle from each other on TK 34, and were seated behind one another on TK 694. Because my name was misspelled on e-ticket (Klawiter, instead of Klawitter) I could not log onto website to get the connection gate number in Istanbul. The monitors in the airport were a jumbled mess 1/2 Arabic and 1/2 English.

On line check in needs a lot of improvement. I tried and gave up.

Food not good, flight attendants not the best, not accommodating very ruff

the female flight attendant was racist towards me. I could tell she treated the two other passengers next to me with more softness.

Oh my god! For an13 hour flight they serve you food just one time. Also don’t be thirsty they give you a little small cup of soda to drink. They seem like their goal is to feed you one so they don’t have to be bothered with you. It quite surprise for such a long flight there are several times to eat at least three and the food was well lackluster. The food and lack of offering drinks which were always hot no ice provided.

We were traveling first class. Checkin counter lady and her manager, both were in bad mood and did not treat us well about checking in the handbag. The gate agent took care of it right away. I travel Turkish twice a year in first class. No one has ever refused to check in the hand bag. Not sure, why this agent and her manager refused. Everything else was excellent.

The 787 economy was a disaster for long haul. The space was too little compared to 777 or 747. Also the extremely low tray table behind the seat made any dining effort a nightmare. However, the movies were up to date, and the food taste was good, despite of terrible serving process caused by small space.

A little bit more comfort. It’s tight space around the seats. But all else is great and a smooth flight!

0ur assigned seats were given to other individuals when we boarded the plane. We were given new boarding passes with new seats all the way at the back of the plane. The reason given to us was that there were issues with the seats. We found out that there were no issues, and someone else's were seated on those.

We waited to takeoff for about 1 hour delay for a 20 min flight.

Good dinner and nice plane.Smootz flight. Breakfast had no sweet option. Seats hardly reclined.

Positive: Entertainment via phone on the short was great and my first time. Good food and wine and head phones for free. Negative: Seat hardly reclined on the long flight. Breakfast was an egg with a bun. No egg choices and rather have something sweet like bun/jam and Youghurt.

Awful. I got stuck next to a person carrying a dog and behind someone with a dog. People need to board these dogs downstairs. The cabin is crowded enough with your pets

The flight was canceled. Got rebooked to Chicago and when we arrived our luggage where to there. They were going to our original destination the day after. They would not deliver them to our house. We had to go pick them up.

Too many fees (but that seems to apply to all airlines nowadays)

Packed in like sardines, very uncomfortable. Sitting the aisle my shoulder was rammed into numerous times by rushing flight attendants. Also flight was very cold.

Your app is impossible to use. I couldn't load it. Then i couldn't open it. When i finally got both those things done -with much help -then i couldn't open the app to install a credit card. The upshot was 4 flights without access to food or drink. When i first tried to download united app some company called starlier opened instead and i would up signing up for some 49 dollar a month music service which i still have not been able to cancel.

Delayed a day due to snow storm. Was upgraded. That kind of made up for significant delays from FLL to COS with no compensation or acknowledgement.

It was delayed several hours which delayed our connection in Denver. Not happy.

Ultimate Guide of Things to do in Dubai Airport DXB

Where to stay, rest, play & dine in the world’s busiest passenger airport.

Are you looking at a layover in Dubai International Airport (DXB) and trying to weigh up your options?

The good news is there’s a lot to see and do within the airport itself, there are definitely worse airports in the world you could be stuck in than Dubai International Aiport!

If you are looking at a layover of longer than 10 hours though, there are a few other options we recommend you look at:

  • Passengers travelling with Emirates or on a Qantas codeshare may be eligible to use the Dubai Connect complimentary layover service . We have a detailed guide here to Dubai Connect , click over to see if you are eligible and what you can get!
  • Use your layover time to explore the city of Dubai – we talk you through all of your Dubai Stopover options in this post here to suit a limited timeframe.
  • Book yourself a stay in a nearby airport hotel to freshen up and use pool, fitness & dining facilities.

In this guide, we are ghoing to focus specifically on staying airside at DXB during a layover.

NB – always allow AT LEAST 2 hours before changing flights in Dubai.   The airport is huge and if your flights take off from different parts of the terminal you will need every minute to clear through transit and get to your next flight, as well as enough time for baggage to move and accounting for any small delays you may encounter.

Staying at Dubai Airport during a long layover

Our suggestions is anything under 5 hours, you are best staying at the airport to prevent the hassles of checking in and out through immigration and risk missing your flight.

International flights require checking in a minimum 2 hours beforehand, we’d strongly suggest even longer during peak travel periods (more so for congestion getting into the airport than how quickly you are processed through the check-in counters).

Note that all Emirates & Qantas codeshare flights depart from Terminal 3, but Terminal 3 is divided into concourse A, B, & C. Concourse B & C are connected, whilst A requires you to take an airport transit train, so you need another 5 to 10 minutes. Other international airlines operate from Terminal 1 which is called concourse D.

Airport Lounges at Dubai International Airport

This can be a great option for short to medium-length layovers (1 to 4 hours).  There are several options, some you may be able to get for “free” via loyalty programs, others you’d need to pay for.

If you are flying Business class, you will of course automatically be given access to a lounge through your airlines own dedicated team, or there is the  Dubai International Business Class  lounge in Terminal 1, Concourse D for all other airlines.

If you don’t have a business class seat but do have a loyalty card such as Lounge Pass or  Priority Pass ,  you can access several full services lounges including the Marhaba Lounges at all 3 terminals and Ahlan Business Lounges.

Non-cardholders can also pay cash on arrival if there is space or prebook to guarantee a spot.  Check for any lounge entitlements with your credit cards too.

You can see all your Dubai Airport lounge options here.

A business class lounge at Dubai International Airport

Sleeping at Dubai International Airport

Staying airside, there are currently only two sleeping options on offer (it appears the SnoozeCubs that used to operate in Terminal 1 are no longer operating).

Dubai International Terminal Hotel

Dubai International Terminal Hotel  is the only hotel actually in the airport, Terminal 3.  Including full hotel facilities with restaurants, gym, spa, swimming pool this is your best luxury option without needing to actually leave the airport.  They do not offer family rooms but you can add up to one extra bed / cot with charge.  Room rates start from 650AED.

sleep ‘n fly Sleep Lounge

The other alternative is  Sleep ‘n Fly, Terminal 3  who offer hourly rate YAWN Cabins & Igloo Pods, some minimum hour restrictions apply overnight to single and double cabins (usual in 4, 6, 8 & 10-hour blocks). Do note, these do not come with changing and washing facilities. Maximum height to add a child 115cm. Check carefully what you are booking as they are available for A. B & C concourse.

(Did you know  Priority Pass  cardholders can use this option instead of a lounge?!)

Washing & Care Facilities at Dubai International Airport

Complimentary shower facilities are located in Terminal 3 between gates B13 and B19.

Be Relax customers can also make use of shower facilities at the spa near Gate A1, A23, B10, B13, B18, B23 Terminal 3 and Gate D9 Terminal 1.

Families will find Baby Care rooms throughout all terminals of the airport.

Interesting things to do in Dubai Airport

  • Zen Gardens  – the airport’s little slice of indoor nature is not a bad place to chill out for a while. Located in Terminal 3 between gates B7 and B27.  It also includes a children’s area with play equipment, TV’s, interactive games zone and baby change facilities.
  • Family Zone – found in Terminal 3 Concourse B between gates B26 and B32 this is a free playground area with comfortable seating for parents.
  • Bounce  – Trampolining during your layover? Why not!  The internationally renowned free jump revolution can now be hired by 30 minute or hour blocks.  This is the perfect way to exhaust your little ones bewteen flights (ideally 3 years+ toilet trained).  50AED for 30 minutes of 80AED for one hour.  Located in Terminal 3 near gate B27
  • Surf the net  – Well, what else do we all actually do these days?  Ultra-fast, free internet WOW-fi is only free for the first 60 minutes.  If you need longer than this you’ll need to move to the paid service offered by Boingo
  • Shopping and eating  – not always ideal with little ones in tow but there are literally dozens of choices from fine dining to family favourites like Giraffe or simple fast food and cafe takeouts.

Transiting around Dubai International Airport DXB

We will reiterate again Dubai Airport is huge (so huge it is the second-largest building in the world by floor space and the world’s largest passenger terminal)! If you’re looking to simply stretch your legs between flights you won’t be disappointed.

Those who struggle with walking though may need assisted transfer services. These should be booked in advance with Emirates or Qantas codeshare.

Young families will also be pleased to know there are  complimentary strollers  available at Dubai Airport.  They’re not always available in every rack, but you should eventually find one!

In Terminal 3, passengers can walk between B-Gates and C-Gates and take a short airport train to A-Gates.

If you are transferring to Terminal 1 for another airline, “D-Gates” are reachable via a short trip on an airport train, these are well signposted or concourse staff can help you find your way.

Dubai World Central (DWC)

Dubai’s second airport, DWC Al Maktoum International Airport, is approximately 40km away from DXB. If your next flight is from DWC, you will need to clear immigration and collect your baggage before taking a taxi or Dubai Metro to Ibn Battuta station where you will be able to take a dedicated bus to DWC. Please allow yourself several hours between flights for a DXB to DWC connection, we’d recommend 3.5 to 4 hours.

Dubai Airport Layover

We hope this helps prepare you for what to expect at Dubai International Airport. Remember to check your eligibility for Dubai Connect or check out some of the transit tour options suggested here , especially if you’re visiting in the cooler winter months.

Use the Dubai Metro to get to and from the airport as well as between Terminals 1 and 3 in case of congestion on the roads. Access to the arrivals’ forecourts in both Terminals 1 and 3 is restricted to public transport and authorised airport vehicles only. Visitors picking up guests should use DXB’s designated car parks or valet services.

At the airport

Families with children over the age of 12 can expedite the passport control process by using Smart Gates . Farewells should be exchanged at home, as only passengers will be permitted inside the terminals during peak periods.

For those not heading overseas in the holidays, hotels across the UAE have plenty of Eid offers available to book, whether you fancy a beachfront stay on Dubai's Palm Jumeirah, an adventure in the mountains of Ras Al Khaimah or a scenic escape in Fujairah. Here are the best deals available this Eid Al Fitr, with something to suit everyone.
