Your VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home for your journey to London Heathrow or Gatwick Airport and a direct, scheduled flight to Chicago. On arrival you will transfer to the Hotel Indigo Chicago Downtown Gold Coast or Courtyard River North, your base for the next two nights.

Day 2 Chicago

A morning city tour introduces us to this magnificent city constructed along the shores of Lake Michigan. The afternoon is free to explore the ‘Windy City’.

Day 3 Chicago to Springfield

This morning we take our first steps along the ‘Mother Road’. Although the roads have been changed and modernised through the years, our route over the following days still encompasses the Route 66 spirit that has enthralled so many since its inception in 1926. We stop to visit the Route 66 Association of Illinois Hall of Fame & Museum, housing thousands of artefacts and memorabilia on this world-famous road. We continue south to the Springfield area, which President Lincoln called his home for so many years. We stay this evening at the Wyndham Springfield City Center

Day 4 Springfield to St Louis

Spend today learning about the life and legacy of Abraham Lincoln. Our first stop is President Lincoln’s tomb, the final resting place of the president after he was assassinated in 1865. We then visit Lincoln’s home, a National Historic site, and travel to New Salem, where Lincoln lived and worked for six years in the 1830s. This reconstructed village includes houses, shops and a general store, with information imparted by period costumed interpreters. We now head for St Louis, where we spend the next two nights at the Drury Inn Union Station. This evening you are again free to explore.

Day 5 St Louis

Today we take a trip to the top of the 630ft Gateway Arch, opened in 1965 to honour President Jefferson’s vision of the continental United States. The rest of the day is free to discover all that St Louis has to offer. Why not take a riverboat cruise along the Mississippi, tour the huge Anheuser-Busch Brewery or experience the beautiful Botanical Garden.

Day 6 St Louis to Springfield

Our first stop today is at the Museum of Transportation. Over 20 classic locomotives are housed here, together with many classic motor vehicles, many of which would have taken the old Route 66 in years past. Later, we take a tour of the aptly named Fantastic Caverns to view the spectacular cave formations. Tonight we stay in Springfield, Missouri at the Oasis Hotel & Convention Centre or DoubleTree by Hilton Springfield.

Day 7 Springfield to Oklahoma City

Departing Springfield, we cross into Kansas and on to the state of Oklahoma and our lunch stop in Tulsa. This afternoon we continue to Oklahoma City, where on 22 April 1889 tens of thousands of settlers surged forward in the Great Land Run to grab their piece of glory and stake their claim on part of the two million areas of unassigned land then opened for settlement. Not surprisingly, Oklahoma City became known as ‘the city born in a single day’. On arrival we take an orientation tour, before checking into the Courtyard by Marriott or Skirvin Hotel

Day 8 Oklahoma City to Amarillo

We continue west, leaving the plains of Oklahoma for the oil-rich Texas Panhandle. We take time to view Palo Duro Canyon State Park, second largest in America and where spectacular vistas greet the eye. We continue to Amarillo for our overnight stay. Since it was founded in the 1880s, Amarillo has experienced many things, from civil war battles to the creation of many millionaires from the ‘black gold’ of the area. Our hotel is the Embassy Suites Downtown

Day 9 Amarillo to Albuquerque

Just outside Amarillo we catch a glimpse of a strange sight – ten half-buried Cadillacs, tail up in a field, which is said to represent the golden era of the car. Onward to New Mexico, known as ‘the Land of Enchantment’ and Albuquerque, a historic city dating back nearly 300 years. We take a brief orientation tour before checking into the Best Western Rio Grande Hotel

Day 10 Albuquerque

Today is free to explore at your leisure. The Historic Old Town is worthy of exploration with its many museums and galleries.

Day 11 Albuquerque to Flagstaff

Arizona greets us today as we make a visit to the Petrified Forest National Park, where quite literally the remnants of an ancient forest have been fossilised. You have a short time for reflection or exploration in Santa Monica before our transfer to Long Beach and the Renaissance Long Beach, our base for the next two nights.

Do I need a visa to travel to the usa?

In most circumstances, no visa is required for travel to the USA for any British Citizen passport holder and many other European passport holders, whose countries qualify for the Visa Waiver Program (VWP). This program permits entry for up to 90 days for business or leisure purposes. Everyone must apply to use the VWP via the online Electronic System of Travel Authorization (ESTA).  Advice states this should be done online at least 72 hours prior to departure. On payment of the $14 fee this system usually issues an electronic confirmation within minutes but this is not guaranteed and there are certain criteria travellers must consider before applying via ESTA to use the Visa Waiver Program. Once granted the VWP authorization is valid for 2 years.

It is essential that everyone who plans to travel to the United States reads the information contained on the following page –  Visa Waiver Program

Please note : From 21st January 2016 The United States implemented changes to the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) as part of the Terrorist Travel Protection Act of 2015. One of the major changes implemented in January excludes any British National who has travelled to Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, or Yemen since March 01st 2011 from using the Visa Waiver Program (VWP). Full details are contained on the above link but those affected will need to apply for a Visitor Visa with the U.S. Embassy before booking their travel arrangements.

You are advised to complete your ESTA prior to confirming any travel arrangements.

To use ESTA now please only use the following website – Official ESTA Website

Complete North America Limited cannot be held responsible for cancellation charges incurred by travellers who have booked travel and are subsequently unable to travel as part of the VWP or who are unable to obtain a Visitor Visa. If you have any questions after reading the information supplied above please speak to a member of our team.

Do I need a visa to travel to Canada?

British Nationals and travellers from other European countries can enjoy visa-exempt travel to and via Canada but must first use the online Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) at a cost of CA$7.00 per person. Most online applications are approved with minutes by email but the process can take longer particularly if supporting documentation is requested. An eTA is valid for 5 years and allows you to travel for up to 6 months on any one visit.

You are advised to apply for your eTA prior to confirming any travel arrangements.

For applications and full information on the scheme please only visit – Official Canadian Government eTA Website

Complete North America Limited cannot be held responsible for cancellation charges incurred by travellers who have booked travel and are subsequently unable to travel as part of the eTA scheme or who are unable to obtain a Visitor Visa. If you have any questions after reading the information supplied above please speak to a member of our team.

Make sure you have comfortable shoes! This tour requires a lot of walking.

Orange luggage tags are provided and are to be placed on your “checked luggage” (large bag). You do not need a tag for your carry-on bag, for which you will be responsible for taking on and off the coach. There is limited space in the cabin of the coach, so unless you require your carry-on bag while traveling, we will stow it in the luggage compartment.

On the first and last nights of this tour, you are welcome to pack your carry-on bag with essentials that would enable us to leave your “checked bag” on the coach. This will facilitate faster check-in and luggage delivery. This is not a requirement, merely a suggestion; we will deliver your “checked bag” to your room on the first and last night if you desire, just like every other night of the tour.

Important Information

Each reservation requires a $250 per person deposit planning fee (exceptions may apply) to be credited toward your final payment. Some or all of your deposit may be non-refundable per our cancellation schedule noted in these Terms & Conditions below. We are happy to accept cash, check (preferred) or credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover) for your deposit.

Throughout 2021 we limited capacity on all our tours. This policy was so overwhelmingly popular by Sunrise travelers, we have made it permanent. In 2022 and beyond, we will limit the capacity on our motorcoaches to 80%. Most Sunrise Tours travel on 50-seat coaches with extra legroom, which means guests will enjoy extra legroom AND at least 6-8 empty seats. In the rare cases when we charter a 55-seat coach, there will be at least 10 open seats on the bus.

Our popular on-board refreshment service on travel days will feature a variety of soda, beer, wine spritzers, juices and sparkling water choices served in recyclable aluminum cans. This is a safe and eco-conscious way for us to deliver the ever-popular Sunrise Tours “happy hour” on tour. We do not typically serve bottled water and ask that while on tour you be responsible for your own hydration and consider the Sunrise Tours drink service a welcome refreshment.

Route 66 Dream USA Adventure Tour

Get to know a large part of the USA by going on the Route 66 with Reuthers . You will travel in comfort and in a small group from Chicago to Santa Monica. Along the way, you'll enjoy spectacular highlights such as the Grand Canyon, the Monument Valley and an overnight stay in the Navajo reservation. A journey that you will never forget. ...get your kicks on Route 66 - from east to west = the historical direction!

The Route for the Route 66 Dreams USA Adventure Tour

Day 1: Chicago

Chicago

Welcome to Chicago. After the individual arrivals and the transfer from the airport to the hotel we will start off with a welcome drink and dinner and set the mood for our shared adventure tour.

Day 2: Chicago > Springfield, IL

Gemini Giant, Launching Pad, Wilmington

Our Route 66 adventure starts. Around midday we will reach Wilmington with the Gemini Giant, a large fiberglass figure of the 1960's era. After an obligatory stop at the Dixie Truckers Home, we will end our first day in Spingfield/Illinois which was for many years the chosen home city of Abraham Lincoln, the president of the United States during the civil war.

Day 3: Springfield, IL > St. Louis

Gateway Arch, St. Louis

Today we want to dedicate our day to the "Gateway to the West": the pioneer town St. Louis. The town's landmark is the more than 190 m high steel Gateway Arch. Inside, we will take trams to an observation platform to the top of the highest monument of the nation. The afternoon in St. Louis is free to your disposal, for dinner we will meet in downtown Lakelade's Landing.

Day 4: St. Louis > Springfield, MO

Meramec Caverns

We deliberately want to do without the unnecessary challenges of confusing streets in the city, bad road conditions and misleading signs to the "Mother Road". We will travel some distances of the tour on the Route 66 and others on the Interstate. Today's highlight and absolute must are the Meramec Caverns. The famous limestone caves have been a tourist classic since the beginning of the Route 66 and served the outlaw Jesse James as a welcome hiding place from his pursuers.

Day 5: Springfield, MO > Oklahoma City

Round Barn, Route 66

The motto of the day today is: travellling - namely through three states: Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma. The latter is known through countless thunderstorms, the particularly striking red earth and for all Route 66 fans the probably longest continuous route on the Highway 66.

Day 6: Oklahoma City > Amarillo

Big Texan Steak Ranch, Amarillo

We will start our day with a real photo highlight: A bridge with 38(!) huge arches spanning the Canadian River. And the Route 66 museum in Clinton that we will visit is a memorial that is different to all others: each room is dedicated to a decade of the "Main Street of America". A further highlight on our tour is the next stop and overnight stay at the Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo.

Day 7: Amarillo > Santa Fe

Cadillac Ranch, Amarillo

We continue our adventure tour on Route 66 to the legendary Cadillac Ranch. As a reminder of the golden days of the Route 66 ten Cadillac's are buried vertically into the ground. Next stop is Adrian, the geo-mathematical center of the old Route 66. This is as important as crossing the equator. Brunch at Russell's Travel Center with its world class Car Museum rounds up the morning. At the end of our eventful day, we will spend the night in historic Santa Fe.

Day 8: Santa Fe

St. Francis Cathedral, Santa Fe

Today is free to relax in downtown Santa Fe, buying souvenirs and enjoying cafe's and restaurants. A must to see is the St. Francis Cathedral next to the Plaza.

Day 9: Santa Fe > Gallup

Maggie's Diner, Madrid / Wild Hogs Movie

This morning we want to check out the original film location of Maggie's Diner from the cult movie "Wild Hogs" with John Travolta in Madrid. After taking a group picture our tour takes us past Mesas, cottonwood trees and continues on the gentle winding road to Laguna Pueblo where the Spaniards built the mission church, which we will visit. Just in time for dinner, we will reach the hotel El Rancho in Gallup after riding several more beautiful miles through Indian Territory. The heydays are gone, but there once was a time when famous Hollywood stars met up here. Ronald Reagan slept in room 103; Humphrey Bogart in room 213, Doris Day in room 109, Kirk Douglas stayed in 105, Gregory Peck in 111. The Marx brothers resided in room 118, John Wayne recovered in room 100 after a long days ride and for Hermann the German room 101 is regularly reserved for the night.

Day 10: Gallup > Chinle

Monument Valley

After a hearty breakfast in the "El Rancho" we will drive the former Route 666 to the North, straight through Navajo country. After some 95 appealing miles, we will arrive after passing through Shiprock and Teec Nos Pos to the Four Corners, the single point in the United States, where the boundaries of four states come together: Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona. Another highlight on this adventure tour is Monument Valley. We will spend the night appropriately in the Navajo reservation near the Canyon de Chelly in Chinle.

Day 11: Chinle > Flagstaff

Standing on the corner in Winslow Arizona

Starting off in Chinle, the first stage leads us to the Petrified Forest National Park and the Painted Desert. The more interesting of the two natural wonders is the Petrified Forest, which was formed millions of years ago by a freak of nature. The northern part of the park, the Painted Desert, consists of sedimentary rocks that change color depending on the exposure to the sun going from red to orange to purple. On our journey towards the west ("Go West", is our phrase of the day!), we will pass the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook and cruise on to Winslow, Arizona to Winslow Corner, known from the song by the Eagles. Today's destination is Flagstaff which is located between the two Indian reservations of the Navajo and Hopi on the legendary Route 66. We will end the evening at the Museum Club that the locals call "The Zoo" and which is probably the best dance club between Oklahoma City and Los Angeles.

Day 12: Flagstaff > Seligman

Grand Canyon

Today's highlight is the gigantic Grand Canyon - if you wish, enjoy a spectacular helicopter flight. After lunch we will travel over Williams to Seligman. Here the long loop of the old Route 66 begins right up to the Californian border. Even the very old street layout is navigable along this beautiful section. Arriving in Seligman, we will first visit the founder of the "Historic Route 66 Association" at the Route 66 Visitors Center. We will certainly have the opportunity to meet the "Guardian Angel", Angel Delgadillo and perhaps somebody might be in the mood to receive one of his famous barber shaves. By the way, in his barber shop, you can find many Route 66 souvenirs - a true paradise for bargain hunters. In the evening we will set up our sleeping quarters at a typical Route 66 motel in order to get to know something very simple and rustic.

Day 13: Seligman > Las Vegas

Las Vegas, Nevada

We will have breakfast today at Westside Lilo's Cafe, an original 66 restaurant owned by an expatriate German, who ensures that all the guests in Seligman are well fed. Through Kingman we continue on to Las Vegas / Nevada and directly on to the Las Vegas Boulevard. The accommodation is booked in the legendary The Mirage which is an ideal starting point for a stroll right on the Strip. Do whatever your heart desires: visit one of the many world-class shows or dive into the nightlife of the city, the afternoon and evening are of course at your disposal.

Day 14: Las Vegas > Barstow

Roys Cafe, Amboy

After a long night, we will start today our "Desert Tour". We will roll past exclusive hotels on the last leg of the Las Vegas Boulevard, and then head off to our day trip in the direction of Barstow. From Needles, California we head back to our Route 66, many refer to this as being the most beautiful part of the route. Other stops are the Sahara Oasis and Roy's Cafe in Amboy. Before we arrive in Barstow we will turn a few miles north - if time allows it - to visit an old silver mine in the Mojave Desert in the ghost town of Calico. In the still inhabited and lovingly renovated original Western town over a thousand adventurers once sought their fortune. If you want to you can pick up your very own personal Western photo. A beautiful day and a beautiful trip ends in Barstow. By the way in 1886, the town was named after the president of the Santa Fe railroad company. Barstow also managed to end up in the refrain of the Route 66 classic "Get your kicks".

Day 15: Barstow > Santa Monica

Santa Monica Pier

The last day "on the road" starts today. From Barstow we will travel the last miles on the Route 66 to Victorville and then take the Interstate straight to Los Angeles. Our Route 66 adventure tour ends here at the Pier of Santa Monica, where we will spend our last night near the promenade. During our final dinner we will reminisce about our common Route 66 Tour.

When you choose to travel with us, you can expect a well-rounded and secure experience, with our services tailored to ensure your journey to Mexico is not just safe but also enriching and enjoyable.

What are Caravans and Rallies?

Fantasy RV Tours offers two different types of RV vacations: Caravans and Rallies. An RV Caravan is a professionally-guided tour that travels from destination to destination on a pre-planned route. A Rally is also pre-planned and led by professional Travel Ambassadors, but explores one area or event, e.g. Rose Parade or Washington DC. To learn more, click here .

What is a Travel Ambassador?

On each of our RV Tours, you’ll be led by professional leaders – WagonMasters and TailGunners – who are collectively known as Travel Ambassadors. To learn more and to meet our ambassadors, click here .

Will we travel caravan/convoy style or independent travel?

We often suggest scattered travel during a caravan with groups of 2 to 4 RVs traveling at a safe distance apart who may enjoy similar points of interest. Of course, you may travel independently at your own pace – enjoying sites and side trips. Your Travel Ambassadors are there to ensure safety for the entire group. It’s your vacation, so we offer options – we want you to enjoy safety, comfort and freedom. Typically, in Mexico, guests prefer to travel convoy style.

Do you limit the number of RVs?

Yes. You’ll want to make reservations early to reserve your space. Reservations are prioritized in the order received. Most of our caravans are limited to 22 RVs, while rallies are determined individually.

Do you offer an interest-free monthly payment plan?

Yes! Budget your vacation with our interest-free monthly payment program and reserve your spot with the first month’s payment. You can also secure your spot with just a 15% deposit and, no matter which payment option you choose, if you pay by check, you’ll receive a discount. For more details,  click here  or contact our Customer Support Team at 800-952-8496.

Do you have a frequent traveler program?

Yes. With every tour you take, it pays in savings! For each Rally, you’ll earn $50 in future travel credits. For each Caravan, you’ll earn $100 in future travel credits. You can also build your way up to different status levels that earn you additional benefits. For full program details, click here .

Do you have a referral program?

Yes. When a new customer is referred by you and completes their tour, you’ll receive $50 in future travel credits for a Rally and $100 in future travel credits for a Caravan. For full program details, click here .

Do I need to own an RV?

Yes and no. Caravans require an RV; whether owned or rented. Some of our rallies have an option to stay in a cabin or hotel, which is indicated in the tour information. If traveling in an Overseas caravan, an RV rental will be provided.

What are your payment options?

Beware of other tour companies that add a surcharge for tours purchased with a credit card or who reserve the right to raise their price after you make your initial reservation. We reserve the right to substitute accommodations, transportation and/or itineraries when we deem it necessary or advisable.

Can I transfer a reservation from one tour to another?

If you need to switch your tour up to 150 days prior to departure, your tour monies will be transferred less a switch fee. To view the full details, click here .

Getting Ready for Your Tour

When will i receive the detailed itinerary.

You will receive a pre-rally information packet approximately 90 days before the tour begins, which includes the detailed itinerary, a vehicle preparation checklist, travel tips, medical forms and the contact information for your WagonMasters.

How should I prepare my RV before the tour starts?

Make sure your vehicle(s) is in top condition before you leave home. Have in your possession the warranty packet and information that came with your motorhome, fifth-wheel, or travel trailer. Know the name of the dealer and location of the original purchase, factory telephone numbers, warranty numbers, as well as year, make, and model in order to get parts delivered quickly, if necessary. Use the Vehicle Preparation Checklist (provided in the pre-rally information packet) to assure your equipment is ready for the tour. Most people travel without ever having a breakdown. In fact, you will probably complete your tour and never have any kind of mechanical problem. Your Travel Ambassadors will do a basic vehicle inspection before the tour begins and advise you of any potential problems or recommended things to do to help preclude any damage to your vehicle.

Should I bring a tow vehicle?

On traveling caravans, we recommend a tow vehicle to maximize your freedom. Most caravans have free days to explore but ultimately, it is an individual preference to tow.

Do I need a passport?

Passports are required for Canada, Mexico and Overseas tours. Please note: Some USA tours require passports if they travel into Canada.

What documents do I need for Mexico and Overseas tours?

You are required to have a Travelers Visa, but we’ll take care of obtaining and paying for the visa once we receive a copy of your passport. We’ll send this information to you a few months before the tour begins.

Is extra vehicle insurance needed in Mexico?

Yes. You must have a Mexico Liability policy for each motorized vehicle and we’ll provide you with information regarding purchasing the liability policy.

Are pets welcome?

YES! We are a pet friendly company. However, it is your responsibility to care for your pet. During Polar Bear tours – you will be away from your pet 3 nights. Canadian Atlantic Province tours with an overnight ferry crossing – you will be away from your pet 1 night. There are pet accommodations available for those tours. Pet care fees are your responsibility. Canada and Mexico require proof of rabies vaccination.

Will I get to speak with my WagonMaster before we depart?

On caravans with less than 25 rigs, your WagonMaster will make an introductory call to each guest on the tour after you receive your customer packet. On all other caravans and rallies, you will be contacted by email which will include direct contact information for your WagonMaster.

Are flights included on Overseas tours?

No. Many of our guests enjoy arriving early or extending their trip once the Caravan is over, so we want to give you the freedom to do so. We’ve also found that guests prefer traveling on specific airlines, flying at certain times of the day or booking their flights with frequent traveler miles. We want to give you the ultimate freedom to fully maximize your vacation. Any in-country flights that are listed on the itinerary are included in the price of the tour.

While on Tour

Do you provide driving directions.

Before the tour begins, we’ll provide you with a comprehensive, up-to-date, field-researched Trip Log with turn-by-turn directions and popular landmarks.

Are gratuities included?

Tips for meals, bus drivers and special guides are included in the tour price. Customers should feel free to tip any service providers they feel go ‘the extra mile’. Gratuities are certainly welcome, but not required for your WagonMaster and TailGunner – they strive to provide exemplary service, above and beyond the call of duty during your entire tour.

Are ferry fees included?

Typically, ferry fees are included unless stated otherwise on the itinerary.

Can I get special meals for my dietary restrictions?

If you have special dietary needs, notify your WagonMaster before the tour begins. Some of the vendors we use will be able to accommodate and some do not have the ability to do so. Be prepared with your own food substitution for situations in which your special food need cannot be accommodated.

What are the physical demands of your tours?

To ensure you have a safe and enjoyable vacation, each tour has an Activity Rating, which is indicated in the tour information. Most tours include walking tours and guided excursions aboard buses, boats, trains, subways and planes. This scale will help you decide if you can participate in all activities included with each tour. Guests with mobility challenges and walking limitations may not be able to participate in all activities. Activity Ratings are intended to provide information for those who do not use mobility devices. If you require a mobility device, please be aware that guests are responsible for loading, unloading and securing their device on all excursions. Some of our tours prohibit the use of Scooters, which is indicated in the tour information.

Can I bring my mobility device?

Certain tours are not scooter or wheelchair accessible, which is indicated in the tour information. On tours where all mobility devices are allowed, guests relying on the aid of walkers, crutches or other mobility devices must travel with a companion capable of assisting. Guests with mobility challenges may not be able to actively participate in all activities included in the tour itinerary.

What amp service will be available at campgrounds?

We always strive to reserve as many 50 amp spaces as possible. However, some campgrounds will not have enough 50 amp spaces for everyone. At most campgrounds, 30/50 amp power is standard. Please note that some campgrounds in Alaska, Canada and Mexico may be more primitive than in the Lower 48. Be prepared to use limited power or dry camp on a few occasions.

How will I know where and when to meet for activities?

On most days, WagonMasters hold nightly travel meetings to brief you on the next day’s activity schedule. In addition, the WagonMasters will have a whiteboard in the front window of their RV that has the daily schedule and any changes that may have occurred.

How do I keep in touch with the WagonMasters and TailGunners?

We use family radios and cell phones. Your WagonMaster will explain the best means of communication for the next day’s travel at the nightly travel meeting.

Can I book optional activities on tour?

There may be opportunities in which you may want to enjoy side trips and optional tours that are not included in the price of the Caravan. Our WagonMasters & Tailgunners are available to assist you with suggestions of popular activities in the area to make the most of your vacation.

What if I have medical emergency or mechanical breakdown?

Our Travel Ambassadors are ready to help when a mechanical problem or medical emergency arises. However, if this prevents you from continuing the tour, you may receive a credit toward a future tour less any non-refundable expenses incurred by Fantasy RV Tours on your behalf.

HISTORIC ROUTE 66

100th Anniversary Tour

ROUTE 66 IS PROBABLY THE MOST ICONIC ROAD TRIP IN THE WORLD IF IT'S ON YOUR 'BUCKET LIST' 2026 IS THE YEAR TO DO IT AS ROUTE 66 IS CELEBRATING ITS 100th ANNIVERSARY

The romance of Route 66 continues to captivate people around the world. Running between Chicago and Los Angeles for over 2448 miles, this legendary old road passes through the heart of the United States on a diagonal trip that takes in some of the country’s most archetypal roadside scenes. If you’re looking for great displays of neon signs, rusty middle-of-nowhere truck stops, or kitschy Americana, do as the song says and “get your kicks on Route 66”. Now, in preparation for Route 66’s 100th anniversary in 2026, parts of the historic route are getting much-needed upgrades.

Bob Cole has escorted Route 66 on 3 previous occasions and will again be on hand to give you tips and advice as you make your way across the USA.  Route 66 passes through a diverse cross-section of American scenes, from the cornfields of Illinois all the way to the golden sands and sunshine of Los Angeles. It passes by numerous landscapes including the Grand Canyon, the Native American communities of the desert southwest, the small-town Midwest heartlands of Oklahoma and the Ozarks, as well as the gritty streets of St. Louis and Chicago. Whether you are motivated by an interest in history, feel a nostalgic yearning for the “good old days” Route 66 has come to represent, or simply want to experience first-hand the amazing diversity of people and landscapes that line its path, Route 66 offers an unforgettable journey into America, then and now. Route 66, America’s ‘Mother Road,’ readies for its Centennial - All of the eight states traversed by America’s defining highway are getting it ready for its 100th anniversary in 2026. States are handing out grants to restore vintage neon signs along the highway. In addition the Route 66 Centennial Commission, are planning numerous events around the anniversary. The Route 66 Mother Road Festival,  Springfield, Illinois will be hosting a double celebration as in addition to it being the 100th Anniversary of Route 66, The festival will be celebrating its 25th Anniversary! 100's of cars, the music, the fun and nostalgia that Route 66 has brought to generations will return for a 25th year, rolling into historic downtown Springfield on 25th to 27th September 2026.  When is the best time to drive Route 66 -  The season starts in May and runs through to the end of October. Before or after that you risk running into cold weather, especially in the mid-west and the higher elevation portions of Route 66. From our experience, the best time to drive Route 66 is mid-September to late-October.
