As a cruise ship passenger, you'll be arriving at the Ann E. Abramson Marine Facility, or the Frederiksted Pier as the locals call it. Located in the heart of Frederiksted, is the only cruise ship port on St. Croix, US Virgin Islands.  ​ The pier is a popular destination for scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing, and much more.  However, access to the pier is restricted when there is a cruise ship in port, and only ship passengers and crew are allowed onto the pier. Snorkeling, scuba diving, and swimming around the pier are not allowed when there is a ship docked both for the public's safety and for the security of the ship.

As you disembark, you'll find shopping, restaurants, tour operators and attractions within walking distance. You'll also find ground transportation and tours are available from the pier to historical sites, beaches, and other excursions. We recommend you book your transportation and tours in advance as many fill up when a cruise ship is in port.

St. Croix is known for our world class scuba diving, but here you can also enjoy sailing, snorkeling, sport fishing, kayaking, and lots of different water sports. Plus, no visit to St. Croix is complete without a trip to Buck Island! On land, everything from golf to horseback riding can be found here on St. Croix. Try hiking one of our many trails, visit the national parks, take an ATV or zip line tour, and visit the local distilleries. Or, learn about the unique Crucian culture and history by taking a guided tour or visiting some of our historic attractions.

The Virgin Islands Port Authority issues a copy of the Cruise Ship Schedule prior to each sailing season.

St. Croix is the largest of the three US Virgin Islands and as a US Territory, the official language is English, and the currency used is the US dollar. The locals on St. Croix are called Crucians, sometimes spelled ‘Cruzan’. Crucians are very friendly, but are reserved people. Behavior that is loud and boisterous is often times frowned upon. A smile and a greeting such as ‘good evening’ will surely help you fit in. 

The US Virgin Islands are part of the Antilles chain which separates the Caribbean and Atlantic. St. Croix is 28 miles long and 7 miles wide. This intriguing jewel lies 17°45′ North latitude and 64°45′ West longitude and is considered to be one of the most beautiful resort areas in the Caribbean. We are on Atlantic Standard time, which makes us one hour ahead of Eastern Standard time in winter months when you set your clocks back one hour.

Excursion through Royal Caribbean

My husband and I just got back from our cruise to the Southern Caribbean and one of our excursions was Buck Island. We snorkeled in the coral reefs. They were pretty dead like many people commented. There still were quite a few fish but compared to the snorkeling I have done in other places like Bermuda, Antigua, the Bahamas, and Cozumel it is lacking. Defiantly not worth $100pp that we spent. I recommend just staying by Fort Fredrik beach for free and snorkeling there instead.

Go here. you have to see it for yourself. sand super soft. Amazing vista of the isalnd of St. Croix on the horizon. Beach water is deep though, drops off quickly.

The water was calm and very clear for snorkeling. We didn't see anything exciting but enjoyed the tranquility of this beach.

First time snorkelers and the different fish seen were amazing, even the ones around the boat where we docked. Not sure how to rate the coral having never seen any before but it wasn't as colorful as I expected but the fish were--we even saw squid. Went on the hiking trail to the observation deck--amazing view, well worth the effort to get to. Very quiet beach (except for music from other boats) to relax on or just wade at the shore line. If you are looking for something to do, you have to bring it with you. Would highly recommend going to Buck Island while at St. Croix. We used Caribbean Sea Adventures and would use them again.

If possible, I would have stayed on the soft beautiful sand of Turtle Beach for my entire stay in St. Croix. The calm waters were perfect for some relaxed snorkeling. The beach was nice to walk along, and the views were just amazing.

All I can say is wow! The snorkeling is fantastic, the beach beautiful and the climate perfect. You can't take shells or leave garbage there- but that's what makes it so nice. Enjoy!
