Quick fix for skyrim crash when fast travel – top solutions.

Tony Nelson

Stuck in a loop with Skyrim crashing during fast travel? You’re not alone, and it’s more than just a game hiccup.

This common issue has left many adventurers stranded, but there’s a solution at hand. Dive into our guide, where we’ve unraveled the mystery behind these crashes and laid out top solutions.

No more delays, no more frustration – just pure, uninterrupted gaming. Ready to get back to your quest?

Key Takeaways

A quick fix for Skyrim crashes when fast traveling often involves updating graphics drivers, disabling mods, or lowering the game’s graphical settings. If these don’t resolve the issue, verifying the game’s files through the platform you’re playing on, like Steam, can correct the corrupted or missing files, stabilizing the game’s performance.

Why Does Skyrim Crash Only During Fast Travel?

skyrim se crash on fast travel

Skyrim’s tendency to crash during fast travel is likely due to a combination of game bugs, hardware limitations, and potential conflicts from mods or custom content.

As we all know, Skyrim is an expansive open-world game that offers us the freedom to explore its vast lands filled with dragons, magic, and adventure. However, this freedom often comes at the cost of stability issues in the game engine itself.

When you fast-travel across the map in Skyrim, the game has to quickly load large amounts of data like new areas, textures, and objects – sometimes all at once.

This can put a lot of strain on your system resources and might lead to crashes if your hardware isn’t up to snuff.

Moreover, mods and custom content can significantly enhance our gameplay experience by introducing new elements or improving existing ones.

But these additions may also cause conflicts when multiple mods try to alter similar aspects of the game or when they are not compatible with each other.

During fast travel specifically, these mods have less time for their scripts or assets to fully load before being used by the game engine as compared to normal exploration – hence increasing chances for crashes on arrival at your destination.

Although these hiccups may momentarily interrupt our escape into Skyrim’s breathtaking world, finding solutions will allow us to continue indulging in that subconscious desire for freedom without any interruptions.

Quick Fixes for Skyrim Fast Travel Crash

skyrim se crash on fast travel

It’s truly disheartening to realize that the fast travel crash issue may be ruining your gaming experience, but let’s dig deeper into possible ways to resolve it swiftly.

While this problem can stem from various factors such as mods, game settings, or save file corruption, you can try several quick fixes to get back on track and enjoy the freedom of exploring Skyrim without any interruptions.

  • Disable problematic mods : If you’re using mods in your game, some of them might be causing conflicts or compatibility issues leading to crashes during fast travel. Try disabling one mod at a time and see if the issue persists. Once you pinpoint the troublesome mod(s), either remove them or look for updated versions.
  • Lower graphics settings : High graphical settings can sometimes cause crashes due to insufficient system resources, especially during fast travel when the game needs to load new areas quickly. Lowering settings like texture quality or view distance might help alleviate the problem.
  • Verify game files : Use Steam’s Verify Integrity of Game Files feature (right-click on Skyrim in your library > Properties > Local Files tab) to ensure all necessary files are present and not corrupted. This process will check your installed files against those stored online and replace any missing or damaged ones automatically.
  • Clean up save files : Over time, save files can become bloated with excess data which may lead to crashes during fast travel transitions. You can try cleaning up your saves by using third-party tools like Skyrim Save Cleaner or FallrimTools – Script Cleaner.

Remember that each situation is unique; therefore, these proposed solutions might work for some players but not for others.

Keep experimenting until you find what works best for you! The vast world of Skyrim is waiting for you – don’t let a crash hinder your sense of adventure and freedom within its breathtaking landscape!

[Crash][Game Breaking]Game Crashes when Fast Travel

Generally, you should include: What went wrong? Log File Screenshots (via a site like imgur ) or video, if applicable

Thanks! Hello! I am unable the play the game anymore as the game crashes every time I try to travel using the waypoint. Destination does not seem to matter, and my starting location does not either. Game just locks up and crashes whenever I try to travel. I’ve attached my player.log, hoping someone is able to help as I like this game!

Hey there… Welcome to the forum…

Unfortunately you havent attached the player.log file - the link just goes to a jpeg.

Usually crashing when transitioning from one location to another (going from one map to another) is a sign that the in-game settings are too high for the hardware you are using… Remember LE is currently (0.8.5) unoptimised and has plenty of known performance related instability that occurs either in very busy moments in the game (lots of mobs/minions/skills proccing/certain maps with lots of partical effects) or when the game is loading into new maps etc.

Without seeing the player.log I have no way to verify this, but your description is virtually identical to other users with this kind of problem so I would guess that you are experiencing it too.

A simple way to test this is to load up the game but before loading a character, you change your in-game settings to Very Low quality, all special features disabled or on their lowest option, 1080p and 60fps framerate limit (Very important) not vsync… If the game works fine at these settings, then its simply a case of you being more conservative with your settings until the performance in the game is improved by the devs (coming in the next patch 0.9).

If the problem still happens at these low settings then there is something else wrong and I would definitely need to see your logs and probably the output of a dxdiag report to get more info on your system/drivers/OS.

Player.log (49.4 KB) re-uploaded my playerlog. I will try you suggestion about hardware, but I would be surprised if that’s the issue, I haven’t had a single issue with frames/performance over the 25 hrs I’ve played

25h of playtime is miniscule wrt to evaluating performance. There are plenty of known performance situations you may simply not yet have experienced. There are even builds that cause performance issues on specific maps and unless you play them specifically you would not notice anything.

That said, looking at your log… The log is pretty short, but I dont see the usual repeating debug errors associated with typical performance issues… So that would probably suggest that whatever settings you are using are Ok so far…

However, there are lots of Map related errors that could indicate that you have a messed up game install or there is something wrong with your savegame(s). The system is struggling to check quest status & waypoint info and there is even a problem where the game is crashing trying to overlay the minimap.

I would recommend:

  • to verify the game files via steam.
  • disable any graphical overlays that you may be using - this included Steam overlays (the game doesnt use them).
  • double check that you are using a recent GPU driver (3 months old max)
  • try and create a new character without any lootfilters - just plain - play it for a while and see if it also suffers the same instability.

Clear the log file before testing with a new char… just to make it easier to see what kinds of errors happen.
