IMAX® Experience

Through IMAX technology, your senses are almost overwhelmed by sight and sound. The larger-than-life Grand Canyon IMAX Experience brings reality to life on a screen over six stories high. With 12,000 watts of floor shaking digital surround sound, you’ll feel like you’re there. Whether it’s hang-gliding through the majestic Grand Canyon in Vistor Center, AZ, shooting the mighty Colorado River rapids, scaling the top of Mount Everest or speeding around the Indy track at 230 miles per hour, IMAX films are guaranteed to take you places you’ve never been before.

  • The screen is 4500 times bigger than an average TV screen.
  • The film is strong enough to pull a truck.
  • A 2D IMAX camera weighs approximately 80 pounds. That means if wildlife shows up, you can’t grab a camera and follow it as you can with video or 16mm. The 3D IMAX camera is the size of a hotel mini-bar refrigerator and weighs 265 pounds.
  • Light from the 15,000-watt lamp in an IMAX® projector is so bright that if it were on the moon we could see it from earth with the naked eye.
  • If a large log were held in front of the light beam from the projector, it would spontaneously combust.
  • The l5/70 film frame used by the IMAX® projection system is 10 times the size of a conventional 35mm frame.
  • Sonics Proportional Point Source™ (PPS) loudspeaker system was specifically designed for IMAX® theatres. The system typically uses 44 laser focused speaker drivers located throughout the theater to fully envelope the audience.

The Technology of IMAX

The IMAX Experience is as unique and powerful as the technology behind it. With images of immense size and striking clarity, sound so clear and deep you can feel it. Giant screens that immerse you in new worlds, and specially designed theatres that transport you there. Only IMAX state-of-the-art technology creates The IMAX Experience.

Large Format Film

IMAX uses 15-perforation, 70mm film to create images of incredible sharpness. The 15/70 frame is 10 times larger than the 35mm used in regular theatres. This makes it the largest commercial film ever invented. Would you believe IMAX large format film is so strong it could be used to tow your car?

IMAX Cameras

IMAX cameras are an integral part of The IMAX Experience. They’ve been to some of the most extraordinary places in the universe. The IMAX camera is specifically designed to shoot 15 perforation, 70 mm film (15/70) – the world’s largest film format. Weighing between 42 and 100 pounds, these cameras are extremely versatile and can be used in virtually any environment – from outer space to the ocean floor, the top of Mt. Everest and all around the globe.

IMAX Screens

Forty-five hundred times larger than an average TV screen, IMAX and IMAX 3D giant flat screens soar up to eight stories high and have a slight curvature that extends beyond the field of geometric recognition. Because these screens fill your peripheral vision, you feel like you’re right in the action. IMAX 3D screens are painted silver to maximize the amount of light reflected back to the audience. Semi-circular IMAX Dome screens produce huge images that soar and swoop above, beside and behind you to fully surround you in The IMAX Experience.

IMAX Projectors

IMAX, IMAX 3D and IMAX Dome projectors are the most advanced, precise and powerful projectors ever built. The proprietary IMAX Rolling Loop technology ensures far superior picture and focus steadiness to deliver the largest, sharpest and brightest images imaginable. Light from the 15,000-watt lamp of some IMAX projectors is so bright that, if one were operated on the moon, people on Earth could see it with the naked eye.

The six-channel, multi-way digital IMAX speaker system with sub-bass utilizes 44 speakers grouped into six clusters behind the screen and at the rear of the theatre to deliver uncompressed sound that is simply unsurpassed in depth and clarity. 16 amplifiers generate more than 12,000 watts of power, not volume, to provide the audience with life-like sound. IMAX’s proprietary loudspeaker system delivers exacting volume and quality at every seat throughout the theatre. From a small drop of rain to an enormous clap of thunder, you’ll hear every shade and subtlety, regardless of where you are sitting.

‘The Notebook’ Will End Its Broadway Run in December. A Tour Is Next.

The show, nominated for three Tony Awards, opened March 14 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theater. It will go on a national tour starting next September.

“ The Notebook ,” a musical adapted from the best-selling novel by Nicholas Sparks, will end its Broadway run on Dec. 15 after struggling to find sufficient ticket buyers during a competitive spring and summer.

But this is not the end of the road for the musical. The producers, who announced the closing on Friday, said they plan a national tour of the show starting next September at Playhouse Square in Cleveland; some musicals, particularly those with well-known titles, fare better on tour than in New York.

The musical, like the 1996 book and a 2004 film adaptation , is the story of a lifelong romance, told from the point of view of an older couple, one of whom has Alzheimer’s disease. Featuring songs by Ingrid Michaelson and a book by Bekah Brunstetter, “The Notebook” is directed by Michael Greif and Schele Williams.

The show began previews Feb. 10 and opened March 14 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theater. A pre-Broadway production at Chicago Shakespeare Theater had been well-received , but in New York, reviews were mixed ; The New York Times’s chief theater critic, Jesse Green, called it “meretricious” (look it up: It’s not a compliment).

Onstage, three pairs of actors play the lead characters at different stages of their lives; the musical is set in a coastal mid-Atlantic town in the 1960s, the 1970s and the present day. “The Notebook" was nominated for three Tony Awards but won none.

It is the fourth musical to announce earlier-than-hoped-for closing dates since May, following “ Lempicka ,” “ The Heart of Rock and Roll ” and “ The Who’s Tommy. ” Broadway is always a difficult industry, and most shows fail financially, but the odds of success are particularly long now because production costs have risen, audience size has fallen, and there is a high volume of shows competing for attention. At the time of its closing, “The Notebook” will have played 35 previews and 317 regular performances.

“The Notebook,” with Kevin McCollum and Kurt Deutsch as lead producers, was capitalized for up to $15 million, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. That money has not been recouped.

Tickets for the film are $19.89 for adults, a fitting price considering the October release of her 1989 (Taylor's Version) album, and $13.13 for seniors and children. However, those hoping to view the film on Imax or Dolby Cinema will have to pay more.

In Swift's announcement this morning , she noted that "The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far[...]". And soon you will be able to experience that electric touch in a theater near you. And don't worry, if you think you missed your opportunity to dress as your favorite era or exchange friendship bracelets, you haven't, as Swift noted: "Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing [are] encouraged...".

This new theatrical release will certainly be a boon for theaters as the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes wear on, delaying film releases . It looks to be another large-scale theatrical event in the vein of Barbie , which, along with Taylor Swift's The Era Tour, broke records this summer. The film is directed by Sam Wrench , who previously worked on such concert films as Billie Eilish Live at the O2 , and Lizzo: Live in Concert . Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour will run for 2 hours and 45 minutes, clocking in about thirty minutes shy of her typical set length during her live tour this summer.

Tickets for the film are on sale now. You can purchase tickets here . Watch the trailer for the film below:

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Is Officially Heading to Theaters

A little treat for all the fans who couldn't nab a presale code

If you (like me) are one of the unlucky fans who couldn't nab a presale code in time to buy a ticket to the Eras Tour, then the latest Swiftie news will likely put an end to your grieving period. At last, Taylor Swift's epic, continent-spanning, economy-boosting concert is getting the big screen treatment.

Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour officially debuted in movie theaters last fall, aptly premiering on October (can you guess it?) 13th.

“The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon 😆,” the pop star announced in an Instagram post on August 31. “Starting Oct 13th you’ll be able to experience the concert film in theaters in North America! Tickets are on sale now. Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged 🫶 1, 2, 3 LGB!!!! (iykyk)”

More big news for Swifties: a new Golden Globes awards category that recognizes cinematic and box office achievement has officially made the concert film a Globe nominee, earning blondie her fifth-ever Globe nomination.

Ahead, we list everything you need to know about the film.

When can I watch the film?

Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour dropped in theaters on October 13 (pointedly, the date is yet another reference to Swift's lucky number and one of her go-to Easter eggs).

How can I get a ticket?

Tickets are currently on sale at AMCTheatres.com and Fandango.com . Adult tickets will be priced at $19.89 plus tax, while children's/senior tickets will sell at $13.13 plus tax. The movie will additionally be available to watch in IMAX and other premium large formats for an additional fee. Members of AMC's Stub A-List will not be able to use their membership to reserve tickets for this event.

Anticipating the high volume of demand (and judging from Swifties' prior tendency to crash ticket sales sites ), AMC said in a statement that they “upgraded its website and ticketing engines to handle more than five times the largest influx of ticket-buying traffic the Company has ever experienced before.” Still, “AMC is also aware that no ticketing system in history seems to have been able to accommodate the soaring demand from Taylor Swift fans when tickets are first placed on sale.” In other words, keep calm and expect possible “delays, longer-than-usual ticket-purchase waiting-room times and possible outages.”

AMC is also expected to play the concert film at least four showtimes per day on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at every AMC location in the United States.

Where can I watch it?

AMC will show the movie in its theaters located across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. The theatrical distributor has additionally coordinated with other theatre operators to secure viewing locations, such as Cinemark in the U.S., Cineplex in Canada, and Cinepolis in Mexico. The film is also now available to purchase via video on demand for at-home viewing.
