TRAVELER REDRESS INQUIRY PROGRAM (DHS TRIP)

If you find yourself consistently being detained for secondary screenings at U.S. entry ports when returning from international destinations, you should probably contact the Department of Homeland Security’s Travel Redress Inquiry Program (“DHS TRIP”).

The above statement also applies to travelers who:

If you do not understand why Customs and Border Protection (CBP) keeps singling you out for additional screening, you should to find out why. That task is not particularly difficult since the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) allows you to request copies of all information CBP has on you. The information on DHS databases go as far back as 1982, so by submitting a FOIA request on CBP.org, you should be able to pinpoint why you are being targeted at entry ports.

Once you figure out why you are often made to undergo additional screening by CBP, you can file an inquiry through DHS TRIP to have incorrect information corrected. It’s a straightforward process that only requires a computer and internet access.

Simply head to the  online form , and fill out the required information.

If you found erroneous information in the copies you received from your FOIA request, you should address that in the appropriate part of the form. Make sure you include details and any other information that can help clear things up.

You’ll also be required to send in copies of some documents with your inquiry like your passport. Copies of these can be sent via snail mail or scanned and sent to  [email protected] .

Once your inquiry is accepted, you will be sent a Redress Control Number. This allows you to check up on the status of your inquiry and for booking flights once your inquiry has been resolved.

So, if you find yourself getting consistently singled out at U.S. entry ports and would like to avoid more of the same in the future, the above steps should point you in the right direction. However, you should note that resolving issues on your DHS files does not automatically exempt you from additional screening in the future. The selection process for determining which travelers are singled out depends on many other factors like random selection and travel patterns.

How long does it take to receive a response?

TSA processes requests on a first-come, first-served basis according to two tracks: simple and complex. The first response you receive is TSA’s acknowledgment  of your request submission. TSA typically acknowledges requests within 10 days of receipt. The acknowledgment letter provides tracking numbers and informs a requester about whether additional information will be needed to process the request. The letter also provides instructions for checking the status of the request.

If you have not received an acknowledgment from TSA regarding your request within 10 days, you may contact us at 866-364-2872 or email at [email protected] to ensure we received your request. Most Internet providers impose a 25-megabyte limit on files sent through email servers. If your request includes attachments that exceed that limit, it may have been blocked.

How long it takes to receive materials from TSA depends on several factors. Our processing time will be determined by the nature of your request, including complexity, scope, and other factors. Requests are deemed complex for reasons that include, but are not limited to, those that require search within multiple offices or airport(s), consultation with multiple DHS components or other agencies, or review of voluminous records from multiple locations. Additionally, the size of TSA’s backlog can affect processing times.

DHS Completes Secretary’s Commitment to a Peer-to-Peer Exchange with the Government of Australia as Part of the Australia-United States Joint Council on Combating Online Child Sexual Exploitation

Online child sexual exploitation and abuse (CSEA) increasingly threatens the safety of children globally. In 2023, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) received more than 36 million CyberTipline® reports of suspected online child sexual exploitation, a 360% increase over the number of reports received 10 years ago. According to the 2023 WeProtect Global Threat Assessment, the volume of child sexual abuse material has increased globally by 87% over the past five years.

Online CSEA is borderless, and it requires international cooperation to combat the threat it poses to children. In response, President Biden and Australian Prime Minister Albanese committed in May 2023 to establish the Joint Council on Combatting Online Child Sexual Exploitation and reaffirmed this commitment at the Australia state visit to the United States in October 2023. Chaired by U.S Department of Homeland Secretary Alejandro N. Mayorkas and Australian Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus KC MP, the new Joint Council, which first met on November 16, will bring together U.S. and Australian policy, regulatory, and law enforcement agencies to build on our strong relationship of mutual collaboration in combating these heinous crimes.

DHS Counter Transnational Organized Crime Principal Director Kristen Best led a U.S. delegation that included representatives from the National Security Council and the Department of Health Human Services through a peer-to-peer information exchange with the Government of Australia. This delegation visit furthers Secretary Mayorkas’ commitment to increase information sharing between nations and establish new areas of collaboration to combat online child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Over the course of the trip, the delegation met with numerous Australian leaders across government, law enforcement, defense, and non-governmental organizations. The groups discussed ways to further underscore safety and resiliency efforts, consolidate and enhance bilateral efforts, and establish new areas of collaboration and information sharing. The work will be guided by a multidisciplinary, victim and survivor-centered work plan to support global efforts to combat online CSEA.

“Australia is a long-standing partner with the United States and the Department of Homeland Security,” said Principal Director Kristen Best . “We are excited to work together with a renewed energy to combat the growing rate and severity of online child sexual exploitation and abuse. Our collaboration is already demonstrating results in prevention and awareness of these threats, as evidenced by the launch of Know2Protect in the United States and One Talk at a Time in Australia. These two campaigns provide information and resources for children, teens, parents, and trusted adults on how to stay safe online, tips on helping victims, and how to report a crime.” 

The Joint Council work focuses on six pillars:

• Prevention, Awareness, and Outreach 
• Research and Development 
• Joint Operations 
• Policy Development 
• Safety-by-Design

Initiatives like Operation Bakis and Operation Renewed Hope – joint efforts encompassing DHS, Australia, and many other partner agencies and governments – highlight our global partnerships in combating online child sexual exploitation. These joint operations led to the dismantling of several sophisticated online child abuse networks. The operations not only led to legal actions against the perpetrators but also emphasize the importance of protective measures for children and raised public awareness about the risks they face with access to the internet.

The partnership between DHS and the Australian Government is a testament to our global commitment to eradicating child sexual exploitation and abuse, showcasing the importance of international cooperation, technological innovation, and public education in addressing this pervasive issue.

A Proclamation on Jewish American Heritage Month,   2024

     For centuries, the perseverance, hope, and unshakeable faith of the Jewish people have inspired people around the world.  During Jewish American Heritage Month, we celebrate the immeasurable impact of Jewish values, contributions, and culture on our Nation’s character and recommit to realizing the promise of America for all Jewish Americans.

     In 1654, a small band of 23 Jewish refugees fled persecution abroad and sailed into the port of modern-day New York City.  They fought for religious freedom, helping define one of the bedrock principles upon which our Nation was built.  Jewish American culture has been inextricably woven into the fabric of our country.  Jewish American suffragists, activists, and leaders marched for civil rights, women’s rights, and voting rights.  Jewish American scientists, doctors, and engineers have made scientific breakthroughs that define America as a land of possibilities.  They have served our Nation in uniform, on the Nation’s highest courts, and at the highest levels of my Administration.  As public servants, artists, entertainers, journalists, and poets, they have helped write the story of America, making it — as Emma Lazarus’ poem on the Statue of Liberty states — a home for the “huddled masses yearning to breathe free.”

     As we celebrate the Jewish American community’s contributions this month, we also honor their resilience in the face of a long and painful history of persecution.  Hamas’ brutal terrorist attack on October 7th against Israel marked the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust, resurfacing, including here in the United States, painful scars from millennia of antisemitism and genocide of Jewish people.  Jews across the country and around the world are still coping with the trauma and horror of that day and the months since.  Our hearts are with all the victims, survivors, families, and friends whose loved ones were killed, wounded, displaced, or taken hostage — including women and girls whom Hamas has subjected to appalling acts of rape and sexual violence.  

     As I said after Hamas’ terror attack, my commitment to the safety of the Jewish people, the security of Israel, and its right to exist as an independent Jewish state is ironclad.  The recent attack by Iran, firing a barrage of hundreds of missiles and drones at Israel, reminds us of the existential threats that Israel faces by adversaries that want nothing less than to wipe it off the map.  Together with our allies and partners, the United States defended Israel, and we helped defeat this attack.

     At the same time, my Administration is working around the clock to free the hostages who have been held by Hamas for over half a year; as I have said to their families, we will not rest until we bring them home.  We are also leading international efforts to deliver urgently needed humanitarian aid to Gaza and an immediate ceasefire as part of a deal that releases hostages and lays the groundwork for an enduring two-state solution.

     Here at home, too many Jews live with deep pain and fear from the ferocious surge of antisemitism — in our communities; at schools, places of worship, and colleges; and across social media.  These acts are despicable and echo the worst chapters of human history.  They remind us that hate never goes away — it only hides until it is given oxygen.  It is our shared moral responsibility to forcefully stand up to antisemitism and to make clear that hate can have no safe harbor in America.        That is why I released the first-ever United States National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism and clarified the civil rights protections for Jews under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.  In addition, the Department of Education has launched investigations into antisemitism on college campuses, the Department of Justice is investigating and prosecuting hate crimes, and the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are focused on enhancing security in Jewish communities.  We also secured the largest increase in funding ever for the physical security of nonprofits like synagogues, Jewish Community Centers, and Jewish schools.  I appointed Deborah Lipstadt, a Holocaust expert, as the first-ever Ambassador-level Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism.  Together, we are sending the message that, in America, evil will not win.  Hate will not prevail.  The venom and violence of antisemitism will not be the story of our time.

     This Jewish American Heritage Month, we honor Jewish Americans, who have never given up on the promise of our Nation.  We celebrate the contributions, culture, and values that they have passed down from generation to generation and that have shaped who we are as Americans.  We remember that the power lies within each of us to rise together against hate, to see each other as fellow human beings, and to ensure that the Jewish community is afforded the safety, security, and dignity they deserve as they continue to shine their light in America and around the world.

     NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH R. BIDEN JR., President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim May 2024 as Jewish American Heritage Month.  I call upon all Americans to learn more about the heritage and contributions of Jewish Americans and to observe this month with appropriate programs, activities, and ceremonies.

Dodgers hit stride during nine-game road trip, begin to live up to expectations

PHOENIX − They departed for their three-city, two-country, 5,400-mile, no day-off, bee-hived road trip with anxieties, questions and fears about whether this international star-studded team may be nothing more than a tease.

Well, 11 days later, the Dodgers returned home early Thursday morning proving once again they are the class of the National League West, and perhaps the most dangerous team in the land.

The Dodgers, after losing three consecutive series to sub-.500 teams in their last homestand, lived up to every bit of their preseason hype. They stopped in the nation’s capital in Washington, D.C., grabbed their passports for Toronto and returned to Phoenix where their season died a year ago. They not only won seven of nine games, but pummeled the opposition by a combined score of 53-19.

So, what’s wrong with the Dodgers?

Absolutely nothing.

“People expect us to win every game,’’ Dodgers sensation Mookie Betts told USA TODAY Sports. “They expect us to hit homers every at-bat. It’s like we’re not humans.

“It’s a silly game. You’re going to have ups and downs no matter who you are. It’s inevitable. Remember, this game is based off failure, not success. It’s good to have those expectations though. The guys we have in here, the coaches, we have a lot of confidence.

“But we got to go play.’’

The Dodgers were relentless on their magical mystery tour where Shohei Ohtani was booed for snubbing Toronto, Yoshinobu Yamamoto was questioned whether he seriously considered signing in New York, and a beehive relentlessly awaited to attack their mojo until a Phoenix beekeeper came to the rescue .

The Dodgers’ bats exploded at the top of the order, while the middle and even the bottom of the order proved to be just as lethal. Rookie outfielder Andy Pages, starting every game of the trip, hit .364 with five extra-base hits and seven RBI in his last eight games. He was joined by Miguel Rojas and Enrique Hernandez, who started six of the nine games, with the bottom-of-the-order trio hitting .333 with a .386 on-base percentage.

“The whole lineup,’’ said catcher Austin Barnes, “just kind of took off.’’

The Dodgers scored at least eight runs in four of their games, and for the first time in 18 years went one entire game without striking out.

“Andy’s a big part of that [success],’’ Roberts said. “Once he got called up, the bottom part of the order solidified and became more productive. I think you look at these nine games and the production the bottom half of the lineup has given us, that narrative should be silenced a little bit. It’s been big, really big for us.’’

The Dodgers rotation yielded a 2.45 ERA on the trip, including the resurgence of Yamamoto. The same guy who was hammered for five earned runs in one inning in his major league debut in South Korea against the San Diego Padres pitched six shutout innings Wednesday and is now 3-0 with a 1.64 ERA and 0.97 WHIP since his debut.

“I think I’m being able to keep myself very calm,’’ Yamamoto said, “and that’s one of the biggest reasons I’m being able to execute my pitches. There are some differences between here and Japan such as the PitchCom, pitch clock. I think I’m getting myself used to it, and I’m feeling more comfortable.’’

The bullpen, which lost setup man Ryan Brasier with a strained calf Monday, was lights out on the trip, yielding a 1.11 ERA.

And of course, there is Betts, who had five multiple-hit games on the trip with a .512 on-base percentage. He’s the runaway MVP one month into the season, hitting a league-leading .377 with a .481 on-base percentage, 1.104 OPS, 49 hits, 29 runs and 26 walks.

“He just conducts professional at-bats,’’ Roberts says, “and that’s a perfect recipe for an MVP-type season.’’

Oh, and about all the concern and apprehension whether he could handle being an everyday shortstop after not playing the position regularly since high school?

The dude looks like he’s played there his whole life, and will continue being their everyday shortstop for the foreseeable future while Rojas slides to second base along with Gavin Lux.

“To his credit,’’ Roberts says, “he really raised his level of play. Certainly, right now, he’s an above-average shortstop. I grade him out as a solid B-plus. It’s hard to imagine that given where he started. It’s really, really impressive."

When the Dodgers step on the field to play Atlanta for a three-game series Friday at Dodger Stadium, their fans may not even recognize this juggernaut.

Certainly, it hardly resembles the team that stunk up the joint up the last time they were in town.

“There’s an expectation when you come to the Dodgers,’’ veteran reliever Daniel Hudson says, “that you should win 60 to 70 percent of your games. The boo-birds come out, and it’s justified. I’d probably boo if I were a fan, too. We lost three straight series at home, seven of 10 games, and we played like [expletive].

“The expectations this organization has brought upon a good fan base. They expect us to win almost every game. When we don’t, we go on a little run where we lose seven of 10 games, everyone is surprised by it, including us.

“But this group is just so professional that we all knew we would turn it around at some point.’’

And somewhere along the way, on a road trip they thought would never end, it happened.

They jelled into the team they envisioned all along.

“You look back 11 days ago and we’re in a tough spot,’’ Roberts said. “We weren’t playing good baseball. To go on the road with an East Coast trip, to go north of the border, and then come back here and play a divisional rival and end up 7-2, it was a nice feat. Offensively, we were really good the entire road trip, and then the pitching, the defense, has been the best we’ve had all year. …

“Everybody likes playing at home, but sometimes it’s nice to get on the road, and it’s just the guys coming together.’’

The Dodgers, 20-13, suddenly have a bulging 4 ½-game lead in the NL West, with no one else in the division having a winning record.

“The Dodgers,’’ Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo says, “are just an unbelievable team.’’

The scary part is that they’re going to even get better. Walker Buehler, one of the finest talents in the game, is scheduled to start for them Monday for the first time since June 2022. Starter Bobby Miller and veteran reliever Blake Treinen are expected to be activated later this month. Three-time Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw is scheduled to return after the All-Star break and starter Dustin May could potentially come back before the season’s conclusion.

“This team, we don’t let the external factors get to us,’’ said Dodgers closer Evan Phillips, who has eight saves and a 0.77 ERA. “We know we’re a good team. We know we have the talent. We’re not going to let anything get in our way.’’

It helps having that $700 million man hitting second in the order, too, with Shohei Ohtani.

Ohtani hit .250 on the trip with two homers and six RBI while striking out eight times and grounding into three double plays. He was out of the starting lineup Wednesday after striking out three times the previous night.

Yet, even when Ohtani proves to be human, and slumps like everyone else, his sheer presence is a huge factor.

“I’m not saying that Ohani is Barry [Bonds],’’ Roberts said, “but when I played against Barry, it was like he was always looming. Ohtani is just like that. I can’t imagine the stress it puts on opposing teams knowing that he’s looming. He’s always there. It’s got to be stressful.’’

The same goes for the Dodgers.

They are always looming, winning the NL West title 10 of the last 11 years, and already given a 99% chance to be playing in October again.

“On paper, people might think we’re going to go 162-0,’’ Hernandez said. “But in baseball, there’s a bunch of ups and downs and it’s all about figuring out a way to make the downs as short as possible.

“It took us a little second there to get going again, but we’re rolling right now.

“I don’t think we have even reached our best yet, but once that happens, look out, this team is going to be special.’’
