Heralded as the UK’s answer to Blink-182, Busted became one of the most iconic pop-rock bands of the noughties. Their debut self-titled album released in 2002 featured some of their biggest hits “Year 3000”, “You Said No” and their debut single “What I Go To School For”. Going onto win several accolades including Favourite Newcomer at the National Music Awards and a few BRIT awards saw Busted reach new heights as they released their follow-up album “A Present For Everyone” which went triple platinum in the UK. Their successes continued growing with every single released reaching the top 3 in the UK charts accumulating a number of eight- seriously impressive! With their teenage appeal and emulating a rebellious nature, it’s no wonder that they attracted thousands of adoring fans to their live performances. Opening with classics like “Air Hostess” sees the trio of Matt Willis, Charlie Simpson and James Bourne air jumping as they run across the stage, surrounded by a chorus of screams. Their energy is infectious as the crowd jump up and down, waving their arms in the air to “What I Go To School For” singing along word for word. Their tongue-in-cheek lyrics feed into their banter with the crowd, mirrored by some of the banners that audience wave emphatically. “Year 3000” sends the crowd wild, as the bright lights dart across the stage. “Crashed The Wedding” sees energy levels soar through the roof while ballads like “Sleeping With The Light On” slowing down them temple equally sees the biggest reaction, as the audience sway their arms in the air with the camera lights in the air. If you came to be entertained, Busted will definitely make sure you have a good time.

okay so when busted announced they were getting back together i was SO happy, the band that made my childhood and the very same band of who no one, including the band themselves, thought would ever get back together and not gonna lie, I'd liked fightstar and Charlie's solo stuff but they were all different and I liked them all in their own way but busted would always have a special part in my heart as my first loves. Anyway, we bought our tickets etc etc and the day finally came, we went and had a meal over at centertainment when

Amazing performance. Lots of energy and love from Charlie, Matt and James. The new tracks they played from the currently unreleased new album were out of this world! I loved every second of it, I was part of the Pigsty Which was ablsolutly isane to see all those people in the crowd and have a different perspective of a gig was a once in a lifetime opportunity. Charlie looks especially happy to be back he was extremely happy and energetic throughout. The lads gave great vocals and played well all night. Very much enjoyed it. Cant wait to see them next time!

After Busted split up I was devastated and when u heard they were having a reunion tour I just knew I had to go! After gettin to see McBusted which had James and Matt this was even better! Play all of the classic songs and I never sat down once. Support acts were great and was an amazing atmosphere. Such funny, talented and down to earth lads. Music sounds even better live. All busted fans must see them!

I've been waiting to see them live for the best part of 18 years and the day before my 21st I finally got to see them.

Best show of my life and I've been to well over 150 gigs in the past 2 years.

Professor Green didn't suit the lineup at all and didn't gain much of a crowd.

Scouting For Girls however were a perfect opening act. Massive crowd with everyone singing along. Brilliant.

Amazing concert, nice to hear the old and new song. Duration was a little short. The band played with the audience to entertain us. Stage was fine, lights were good. I missed the opportunity to shake hands and ask for autographs of the band (there were no VIP tickets)

Noughties pop-punk boyband Busted has announced a UK-wide reunion tour, set to take place later this year, 18 years after they confirmed their split in an emotional press conference.

In the five years they were together between 2000 and 2005, the three-man band – Charlie Simpson , James Bourne and Matt Willis, all now 39 – had four UK number-one singles, won two Brit awards and sold more than 5 million records.

They made waves in the early 2000s with several iconic bangers including “Year 3000”, “Crashed the Wedding” and “Air Hostess”.

The band reformed for a brief stint in 2013, fusing with childhood friends and fellow pop boyband McFly to form spin-off band McBusted, releasing an album and performing a few comeback tours and one-off gigs.

In the tour announcement video, band member James Bourne said: “We were writing songs that made us laugh, and the songs that made us laugh made other people laugh and feel good.”

Here’s everything you need to know if you want to watch Busted perform live, including ticket price, sale information and a full list of tours and venues.

Event Details

Busted have announced that they will be celebrating their 20 th anniversary with an arena tour which is heading to The O2 on 10, 27 September and 10 October 2023. The band will be joined by special guests Hanson and The Tyne.

Impossible though it may seem, it’s been twenty years since Busted bounced into the charts with the irrepressible pop-punk energy of their debut single ‘What I Go To School For’ . It kickstarted a succession of hits for the trio, including the #1 smashes ‘Crashed The Wedding’, ‘Who’s David’ , ‘Thunderbirds Are Go’, ‘You Said No’ and the Top 3 singles ‘Year 3000’ , ‘Air Hostess’ and ‘Sleeping WIth The Light On’. Now Busted celebrate their 20th anniversary by announcing details of a major UK arena tour, alongside a series of new versions of fifteen of their classic hits to be released in the build-up, with some very special guests

The tour will see the original much-loved trio - James Bourne, Charlie Simpson and Matt Willis - play their hits and fan-favourites this September. The first track to launch the 20 th anniversary celebrations will be a new version of Busted’s song ‘Loser Kid’ featuring Simple Plan, which will be released on 14 April. Loser Kid featured as the final track on their self-titled debut album and was co-written by Bourne, Simpson and Willis.

Busted’s many successes spread far beyond the singles charts. Three of their four studio albums also peaked at #2, with 4.5 million sales leading to eight Platinum certifications as well as a total of 25 weeks in the Top 10 and two 5x Platinum selling albums. They have won two BRIT Awards - Best Pop Act and Best British Breakthrough - while multiple sold-out arena tours have seen them sell more than 2 million tickets.

Busted’s 20th anniversary tour follows Charlie Simpson’s recent triumph as the winner of 2023’s ’The Masked Singer’, adding to his other projects which have included four solo albums and four albums with the rock band Fightstar. James Bourne is a renowned songwriter, with credits including McFly, The Jonas Brothers, 5 Seconds of Summer and The Vamps, as well as his band Son of Dork and two recent solo albums ‘Safe Journey Home’ (2020) and ‘Sugar Beach’ (2022). After releasing his debut solo album, Matt Willis famously won ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here’ leading to a successful television career as well as acting roles which have included the recent West End hit ‘2:22 A Ghost Story’.

Busted is back, ITV News' Faye Barker reports

Boyband Busted has announced a comeback tour to celebrate their 20th anniversary.

The British trio, comprised of Masked Singer winner Charlie Simpson and bandmates James Bourne and Matt Willis, have announced 15 tour dates across the UK to mark their 20th anniversary.

The Year 3000 band also announced a new single called Loser Kid 2.0 featuring Simple Plan which will be released in April.

American pop band Hanson, best known for their 1997 hit MMMBop, will join the trio on tour.

In a video posted to Instagram on Thursday morning, Bourne said: "A decade is a long time. Two decades is an even longer time."

The clip showed footage from the band's past music videos including Air Hostess, You Said No, and What I Go to School For.

"We were writing songs that made us laugh and the songs that made us laugh made other people laugh and feel good," Bourne said.

He added that they have that "special feeling - like it's Busted time".

Simpson, who later went on to front rock band Fightstar, said Busted "really broke the mould" when they started making music in 2000.

"It's about celebrating what Busted meant to the fans and it's about us being able to go out and share that experience with them," Simpson said.

Thousands of fans responded to the teaser expressing their hopes for an album, tour, or single.

Busted announce return with massive UK arena tour and reworks of hit songs to celebrate more than 20 years since debut

busted

It’s official – Busted are back, and they’re bringing new songs and a massive UK tour with them.

The iconic three-piece ruled the airwaves in the early noughties with earworms including Year 3000, Air Hostess and What I Go To School For.

It’s somehow been more than 20 years since Busted – comprising vocalists Charlie Simpson, James Bourne and Matt Willis, all 39 – burst onto the scene, and they have something very special ahead to celebrate.

Fans had already become convinced the Who’s David stars had something major planned , with the official Busted social media pages updating their banners to include the date March 23.

Well, it is now March 23, and it has been revealed Busted are coming back for a massive 15-date UK arena tour, kicking off in September and with tickets going on sale next week.

The tour will see James, Charlie and Matt perform their biggest hits along with fan favourites (hello, Nerdy and 3am) with support from Mmmbop stars Hanson and New Hope Club.

Busted

That’s not all: the group are preparing to release no fewer than 15 songs.

Rather than brand new tracks, Busted have created reworks of some of their most iconic songs and will perform them alongside some other major names from the scene.

The first release is a new version of Loser Kid, from Busted’s debut album; the track will hit airwaves on April 14 and will feature pop rock stars Simple Plan.

Other upcoming singles will have special guests McFly, All Time Low and more, with names to be released at a later date.

Busted 20th anniversary tour dates

September 2 – Plymouth, Pavilions September 3 – Cardiff, International Arena September 5 – Swansea, Arena September 6 – Bournemouth, BIC September 7 – Brighton, Centre September 9 – Birmingham, Utilita Arena September 10 – London, The O2 September 12 – Bridlington, Spa September 15 – Nottingham, Motorpoint Arena September 16 – Newcastle, Utilita Arena September 17- Leeds, First Direct Arena September 19 – Aberdeen, P&J Live September 20 – Glasgow, OVO Hydro September 22 – Liverpool, M&S Bank Arena September 24 – Manchester, AO Arena

Tickets for the tour will go on general sale at 9am on March 31, however fans who sign up to Busted’s mailing list will receive access to a pre-sale from 9am on March 29.

Rumours of a comeback for the group have circulated since Fightstar musician Charlie hinted to Lorraine Kelly ‘ there may be some plans ’ for a reunion.

‘It is the 20 year anniversary for Busted this year,’ he added.

‘Sworn to secrecy again… but there may be some stuff in the pipeline.’

Busted were first formed in 2000 and released their first, self-titled album in 2002, before their 2003 album A Present For Everyone threw them into even wider fame.

Their split in 2005 devastated fans, with many remembering genuine tears in the playground the day the news was announced; all three went on to form solo careers or front new bands.

Busted returned – in a way – in 2013, when Matt and James teamed up with McFly for supergroup McBusted, and Charlie finally returned in 2015, completing the original lineup.

Celebrate their 20th anniversary with a major uk arena tour. Joined by special guests hanson and new hope club.

Impossible though it may seem, it’s been twenty years since Busted bounced into the charts with the irrepressible pop-punk energy of their debut single ‘What I Go To School For’. It kickstarted a succession of hits for the trio, including the #1 smashes ‘Crashed The Wedding’, ‘Who’s David’, ‘Thunderbirds Are Go’, ‘You Said No’ and the Top 3 singles ‘Year 3000’, ‘Air Hostess’ and ‘Sleeping With The Light On’. Now Busted celebrate their 20th anniversary by announcing details of a major UK arena tour, alongside a series of new versions of fifteen of their classic hits to be released in the build-up, with some very special guests.

The tour will see the original much-loved trio - James Bourne, Charlie Simpson and Matt Willis - play their hits and fan-favourites to a combined audience of 150,000 people over the course of fifteen shows this September. Supporting Busted will be the iconic Hanson. The pop trio brothers are behind hits including the number 1 smash ‘MMMBop’, ‘Where’s The Love’, ‘I Will Come To You’ and ‘Penny & Me’. The line-up will also feature New Hope Club, who scored a Top 5 hit with their self-titled debut album and have since exceeded 2 billion streams.

The first track to launch the 20th anniversary celebrations will be a new version of Busted’s song ‘Loser Kid’ featuring Simple Plan, which will be released on April 14th.

2015 was a momentous year for a number of reasons; NASA found flowing water on Mars, the Star Wars franchise returned with The Force Awakens and a certain blue and black (or was it white and gold?) dress divided the world.

However, there was one singular event that overshadowed them all: superstar boyband Busted got back together.

Ten years after breaking the hearts of millions of teenage girls whose walls were adorned with pictures of James Bourne, Matt Willis and Charlie Simpson, the trio announced their return. This followed a two-year stint of tours as McBusted, when Bourne and Willis joined the four members of fellow teenage heartthrob band McFly to perform shows to sold out arenas.

The newly formed Busted released two albums together, Night Driver and Half Way There. They then took a hiatus to pursue solo projects before reuniting once more for their 20th anniversary tour in 2023.

Now they're back again, this time for a summer 2024 tour across the UK. Whether you've been avidly following their latest releases or you're waiting with bated breath to hear classics like What I Go to School For or Air Hostess, here's how you can snag some tickets.

James Bourne talks Busted’s arena tour return in 2023, the band’s legacy

Home » James Bourne talks Busted’s arena tour return in 2023, the band’s legacy

Busted’s co-founder and vocalist James Bourne answers some questions for Soundsphere ahead of the band’s arena dates!

busted tour 2023 sheffield

S] Hi James, how are you, mate? Thanks for your time in answering these questions for me!!

I’m good thank you! A pleasure!

S] With all your success, and the success of Busted, how do you define success, what does it mean to you?

Success [to me] means feeling good about the success, and knowing how to use that success to have a positive impact on my life and people around me.

S] Do you think much about the legacy of Busted, and your legacy, as a wider question?

Yes, I do think about the big picture for Busted all the time, there have been multiple occasions where I have not agreed to a plan that I didn’t feel was in the best interest of the band.  The band is in a good place does help us all as band members individually in all the things we decide to do on the side.

S] How was the re-development of ‘Meet You There’ with Ben Barlow of Neck Deep for you?

[It] Came out close to perfect! [I] Love Neck Deep! Charlie [Simpson] had a very specific vision for the drums which was great! I like extending the second pre-chorus. That was my idea!

S] I know you can’t speak for the other members of the band, but what are you most looking forward to about the September (and October) shows?

I like to fly my Star Wars drone around the arenas before soundcheck. You can’t really do that in smaller venues. I also enjoy playing ping pong backstage!  This is the biggest Busted tour since 2004 so I’m looking forward to playing for all these fans!

S] Are there any other projects that you’d like to promote before we finish, is there anything that I’ve missed?

My musical Loserville is on in Brighton soon and always pops up somewhere so keep an eye out for that! I made two solo albums during the pandemic because I was alone a lot so maybe check those out!  Especially the song ‘Time Kills Us All’. That’s my favourite one!

Moscow Metro

Introduction of moscow subway system (metro).

Richly Decorated Central Hall of Novokuznetskaya Station

Nowadays the Moscow Metro has 12 lines, light subway and monorail. All stations are unique and beautiful in their own way. Unfortunately, in order to visit them all, you need to spend many days. I invite guests to visit the ones that have the greatest cultural and historical interest from my point of view. Among them are the Revolution Square, Arbatskaya, Kievskaya (Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya Line № 3); Kievskaya, Belarusskaya, Novoslobodskaya, Komsomolskaya (the Ring line number 5). Let us dwell a bit on each.

Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya Line

Subway station "revolution square".

Sign “Ploshchad Revolyutsii” in Archway with Bronze Figures

Most recently - in the year 2008-2010 – the Eastern lobby was renovated. Because of the terrorist attacks in the Moscow subway that took place several hours before the planned opening of the East lobby after renovation, the solemn part of the event was canceled.

Subway station Arbatskaya

Subway Arbatskaya is located on the same subway line as the station "Revolution Square." It was founded in 1953. It received the name in honor of the Arbat Street. It has one ground lobby (Western). Initially, the lobby was in a separate building, but the new building of the General Staff of the Ministry of Defense started, the lobby appeared to be in its atrium. The old exits were bricked up; a new entrance was built into the building of General Staff of the street Vozdvizhenka. There is a huge frame with a missing portrait in the ground lobby - until mid-1950 there was a portrait of Stalin. According to some reports, it survived, but closed with plaster.

The lobby was restored and partially reconstructed in 2007-2008.

The depth of the station is 41 meters.

Pylons are finished with red marble at the bottom, decorated with bouquets of flowers made from ceramics. The floor is laid out with gray granite. The walls lined with glazed ceramic tiles, white top and black bottom. The station hall is illuminated by massive bronze chandeliers in the form of rings.

Subway station Kievskaya

There are several subway stations "Kievskaya" in Moscow, located on different branches. This name is quite popular. It comes from the capital of Ukraine - one of Russia's nearest neighbors - the city of Kiev. The name is fully consistent with the idea of the subway station. The interior the station devoted to Soviet Ukraine and the reunification of Ukraine and Russia. The station is decorated with a large number of paintings .Twenty four murals depicting workers of Soviet Ukraine are placed on the arch above the pylons. The wall from the side of platform also contains frescos, mainly with images of fantastic plants. Pylons are decorated with light marble and additionally decorated with colorful ceramic cornice. The butt of the station has a large mosaic, depicting festivities to celebrate the 300 anniversary of the reunification of Ukraine and Russia.

Opened in 1953, this subway station for a long time was the final (1953-2003).

The station has one lobby, combined with the station ring line and located in the building of the Kievskaya railway station. The diameter of the central hall station is 9.5 m, the diameter of side one is 8.5 m. The depth of the station is 38 meters.

= Ring Line Subway =

It opened in 1954. The station received its name after the Kiev station, and locked the Ring line. During the construction of the station many projects were proposed, but the victory in the competition won the Kiev architects who made the construction of the station. It is the only station of the Ring Line which is not located in the Central Administrative District of Moscow.

The station has a pylon structure. Eighteen pylons are decorated with mosaic panels of glazes, decorated on the theme of Ukrainian history and friendship between the Ukrainian and Russian peoples, which started in the mid-17 century.

On the front wall of the central hall of the station a large panel with molding in the form of flags and a mosaic portrait of Lenin in the center are located. There are lines of the Soviet national anthem around the portrait, and under the portrait - the words of Lenin. One of the ways out of the station was designed by French architects modeled on the Paris Subway in 2006.

At one of the mosaics – “The Struggle for Soviet power in Ukraine "- modern passengers observe a mobile phone and PDA in the hand of one of the guerrillas, and on his knees - a laptop. In fact, he uses a field telephone, which was really a heavy thing (guerrillas holds it in two hands), and thing that people see a laptop is the lid of a box with a telephone. However, these phones have begun to produce only in the second half of the 20-ies of XX century. We must assume that the mosaic depicts a foreign field telephone transmitter.

Subway station Belorusskaya

The founded of the station was in 1952. It received the name after the Belarusian railway station nearby. The station has two ground-based lobbies. The Western one goes to Tverskaya  Zastava. It is decorated with beautiful carvings. The Eastern one leads to Butyrskiy shaft and Forest Street. The Eastern lobby is known for its majolica panels.

The station Belorusskaya is located at a depth of 42.5 m below ground. The diameter of the central hall is 9.5 meters.

Pylons are faced with light marble. The walls lined with white ceramic tiles, the floor is covered with ceramic tiles, gray, white and red colors. Lamps placed on pylons, in the form of vases made of glass and marble. The theme of decoration is economy and culture of Belarus. Decorative pattern on the floor repeats the theme of traditional Belarusian embroidery. Decorations of the ceiling consist of stucco decorations and 12 mosaic panels depicting the life of the Belarusian people.

Subway station Novoslobodskaya

Built in 1952, Subway station Novoslobodskaya got its name from the eponymous street:  the station is located at the very beginning of it.

Novoslobodskaya is pylon station of deep foundation (its depth is 40 m) with three arches.

Exit to the street is through the ground lobby with column portico, located on Novoslobodskaya Street lined with gray marble. Pylons of the underground station are faced with marble from the Urals. Thirty two spectacularly illuminated stained-glasses, placed inside the pylon and bordered by steel and gilt brass are splendid decoration of the station. A remarkable mosaic "World Peace" is located at the end of the central hall. The picture depicts a happy mother with a baby in her arms; it was the face of Stalin at the picture: the child gave a hand to him. But in times of Khrushchev the face of the former leader of USSR was removed from the panel. The walls are lined with bright marble; floor is covered with white and black granite slabs, placed in a checkerboard pattern.

Subway station Komsomolskaya

The station was built in 1952 and named in honor of the Komsomolskaya Square, which is situated nearby.

This subway station is the station of the deep bedding. Its depth is 37 meters. The station has column and three- arched design. Cast iron decoration is used in the construction, monolithic slab used as a tray for a collapsible finishing. The length of the boarding hall is 190 meters; width of it is 10 meters. There are 68 octagonal columns at station.

The main theme of the interior of the station is the fighting of the Russian people for their independence. The ceiling is decorated with eight station mosaic mural made from glazes and precious stones. Six of them represent the Alexander Nevsky, Dmitry Donskoy, Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky, Alexander Suvorov and Mikhail Kutuzov, the Soviet soldiers and officers at the walls of the Reichstag.

Two other panels, depicting Stalin ("Victory Parade" and "Presentation of the Guards Banner"), were replaced after the dethronement of Stalin's personality cult in 1963. New panels depict Lenin's speech in front of the Red Guards and the Motherland on the background of the Kremlin's Spasskaya Tower.

The yellow ceiling is decorated with mosaic and moldings. The hall is illuminated by massive chandeliers hanging between the panels; platforms are illuminated with smaller chandeliers. The columns are decorated with marble capitals and trimmed with light marble, as well as the wall station. The floor is laid with pink granite. There is a bust of Lenin at the end of the hall. At the opposite end of the escalator is a large Florentine mosaic of the Order of Victory with red banners on the background. The ground lobby of the station is decorated with bas-reliefs.

In conclusion...

Each of the stations of the Moscow subway is attractive and interesting in its own way. Each has its own long and fascinating history and is beautifully decorated. The Moscow subway is a whole world, which can be talking about for hours. I suggest you short - no more than one hour and a half - and a fascinating journey through the world of the Moscow subway. The pleasure is guaranteed!

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

Go beneath the streets on this tour of the spectacular, mind-bending Moscow Metro! Be awed by architecture and spot the Propaganda , then hear soviet stories from a local in the know. Finish it all up above ground, looking up to Stalins skyscrapers, and get the inside scoop on whats gone on behind those walls.

Know More about this tour

We begin our Moscow tour beneath the city, exploring the underground palace of the Moscow Metro. From the Square of Revolution station, famous for its huge statues of soviet people (an armed soldier, a farmer with a rooster, a warrior, and more), we’ll move onto some of the most significant stations, where impressive mosaics, columns, and chandeliers will boggle your eyes! Moreover, these stations reveal a big part of soviet reality — the walls depict plenty of Propaganda , with party leaders looking down from images on the walls. Your local guide will share personal stories of his/her family from USSR times, giving you insight into Russia’s complicated past and present. Then we’re coming back up to street level, where we’ll take a break and refuel with some Russian fast food: traditional pancakes, called bliny. And then, stomachs satiated, we are ready to move forward! We’ll take the eco-friendly electric trolleybus, with a route along the Moscow Garden Ring. Used mainly by Russian babushkas(grannies) during the day, the trolleybus hits peak hours in the mornings and evenings, when many locals use it going to and from their days. Our first stop will be the Aviator’s House, one of Stalin’s Seven Sisters, followed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — and you’ll hear the legends of what has gone on inside the walls. Throughout your Moscow tour, you’ll learn curious facts from soviet history while seeing how Russia exists now, 25 years after the USSR.

Traveler Reviews

This tour exceeded our expectations. Nikolai (Nick), our tour guide, was very knowledgeable, thorough, and has a great personality. He didn't take shortcuts and really covered everything that was on the agenda in great detail. We saw beautiful metro stations and learned the history behind them, including many of the murals and designs.

We did the tour with Anna her knowledge and understanding of the History surrounding the metro brought the tour alive. Well done Anna!

Mark Williams beats Ronnie O'Sullivan in Tour Championship final after winning seven frames in a row

Mark Williams wins seven frames in a row to beat Ronnie O'Sullivan in Tour Championship final; Williams claims 26th rankings title, denies O'Sullivan a 42nd; World Snooker Championship runs from April 20 to May 6 at The Crucible in Sheffield with O'Sullivan looking for record eighth title

Mark Williams won seven frames in a row to beat Ronnie O'Sullivan 10-5 at the Tour Championship and claim the final piece of silverware before the World Championship in Sheffield.

Williams trailed 5-3 at the end of the afternoon session in Manchester after O'Sullivan reeled off four frames in a row from 3-1 down, with the Rocket sinking three century breaks in that run.

However, Welshman Williams was in sizzling form in the evening, surging to victory with two centuries, a 99 and two further breaks in excess of fifty to secure his 26th career ranking title and deny O'Sullivan a 42nd.

Williams told ITV4 : "I played well all day. I was 3-1 up, 5-3 down, Ronnie played unbelievably well and sometimes you've got to hold your hands up, but tonight I took it to him and played really well.

"It's not bad for a part-timer! I never thought I'd be winning tournaments at 49. The World Championships are around the corner. [O'Sullivan] is the man to beat, but you never know. I'll try my best."

O'Sullivan denied sixth title of the season

O'Sullivan was aiming for his sixth trophy of 2023/24, following victories at the Shanghai Masters, UK Championship, The Masters, World Grand Prix and World Masters of Snooker this campaign.

The Rocket will now look to achieve that at the World Championship from April 20 as he targets an outright record eighth triumph at the event, having equalled Stephen Hendry's haul of seven Crucible crowns when he won the 2022 edition.

O'Sullivan was knocked out in the quarter-finals by eventual winner Luca Brecel in 2023, with Brecel going on to defeat four-time world champion Mark Selby in the final.

O'Sullivan will enter this year's competition as the second seed, with the defending champion - in this case Brecel - handed the top seeding in Sheffield.

On his defeat to Williams, O'Sullivan said: "I think he's been the best player, the most consistent player, over the last five years.

"He's an amazing player. He rarely plays a poor match. He's so talented and I think he's better now than he's ever been.

"I tried to give it everything. I did it this afternoon to stay in the match but he's so consistent, so strong, if you don't consistently play top-level snooker he'll eat you alive."
