Dave matthews band announces fall 2024 tour, 2 msg shows. get tickets.

Dave Matthews sings while playing acoustic guitar.

On Oct. 19, Dave Matthews Band will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Less than a month later, the legendary group returns to the road — after their annual nationwide summer trek — for a six-show November arena tour .

DMB’s brief jaunt starts Nov. 15 at Pittsburgh’s PPG Paints Arena and concludes at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Friday, Nov. 22 and Saturday, Nov. 23 .

This short fall stint isn’t unprecedented for the group; last year, they headlined MSG for two nights as well.

“The fall tour…in NYC was 🤯,” the band shared on Instagram . “A massive thanks to everyone who came out…and to all special guests who joined us for the concerts this weekend.”

Prior to the run, Dave and co. are slated to headline at four festivals this September including Saratoga Springs’ Farm Aid on Sept. 21.

Fans can purchase tickets for all upcoming Dave shows on sites like Vivid Seats ; the official on-sale for the newly announced November dates is Friday, Sept. 20.

Dave Matthews Band set list

While DMB doesn’t adhere to a strict set list, we can let you know what they played at a recent show on their summer run.

Courtesy of  Set List FM , here’s what Dave and co. played — including a few surprising covers — on June 1 this year in Dallas, TX.

01.) “When the World Ends” 02.) “Funny the Way It Is” 03.) “You Never Know” 04.) “Madman’s Eyes”

05.) “#41” 06.) “Can’t Stop” 07.) “Samurai Cop (Oh Joy Begin)” 08.) “Black and Blue Bird” 09.) “Warehouse” 10.) “Lover Lay Down” 11.) “Let’s Dance” (David Bowie cover) 12.) “Stolen Away on 55th & 3rd” 13.) “Lie in Our Graves” 14.) “Spaceman” 15.) “Grey Street” 16.) “Everyday” 17.) “Ants Marching”

18.) “Some Devil” 19.) “All Along the Watchtower” (Bob Dylan cover)

Dave Matthews Band new music

In May 2023, Dave Matthews Band dropped their tenth studio album “Walk Around The Moon.”

Over 12 tracks, DMB delivers their trademark bluesy, folksy, rock sound along with a few new flourishes.

Personally, we’re partial to the album’s title tune, the deceptively simple “The Ocean and the Butterfly” and the rowdy, rollicking barnstorming good time “After Everything.”

Rapper Fatman Scoop dies after collapsing on stage during Connecticut concert

Fatman Scoop, known to many as the "undisputed voice of the club," died after reportedly collapsing during a concert Friday night in Connecticut.

His family confirmed his death in an Instagram post on Saturday. He was 56.

"It is with profound sadness and very heavy hearts that we share news of the passing of the legendary and iconic FatMan Scoop," a post on his Instagram page read. "Last night, the world lost a radiant soul, a beacon of light on the stage and in life."

The rapper and hype man, whose real name is Isaac Freeman III, was performing at the Green and Gold Party summer concert in Hamden, about six miles from New Haven, when he suffered a medical emergency on stage.

The town's mayor Lauren Garrett said he was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

In a statement Saturday, Garrett thanked people from the crowd and paramedics who attempted to perform life-saving measures.

"On behalf of the Town of Hamden, I offer my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Isaac Freeman, known as Fatman Scoop," she posted on Facebook. "He was a wonderful performer with a wide following as evidenced by the thousands of fans that came to see what would be his last performance at Hamden Town Center Park."

The mayor said grief counseling services would be available for community members.

Fatman Scoop.

Video posted on social media showed a shirtless Fatman Scoop hyping up the crowd at the Town Center Park shortly before collapsing. In one video, he walks to the back of the DJ booth and says, "If you came to party, make some noise." He then appears to fall over, falling into the DJ.

The event was scheduled to happen last month but because of weather, it was postponed to Friday night.

Fatman Scoop has worked with some of the biggest musicians, including on Missy Elliott’s "Lose Control," Mariah Carey’s "It's Like That," Ciara's "Level Up (Remix)," and Chingy's "Let's Ride."

"FatMan Scoop was not just a world class performer, he was a father, brother, uncle and friend. He was the laughter in our lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength, and courage," his family wrote. "FatMan Scoop was known to the world as the undisputed voice of the club. His music made us dance and embrace life with positivity. His joy was infectious and the generosity he extended to all will be deeply missed but never forgotten."

Missy Elliott said Fatman Scoop's "VOICE & energy have contributed to MANY songs that made the people feel HAPPY & want to dance for over 2 decades."

"Your IMPACT is HUGE & will be NEVER be forgotten," she wrote in a post on X.

Ciara posted on X: "Rest Easy at @FatmanScoop! You were truly one of the best voices in hip-hop! I’m so glad I got to experience your greatness! We will all miss you greatly."

Public Enemy rapper Chuck D called Fatman Scoop a "great human being."

Questlove, from the hip-hop band The Roots, said Fatman Scoop was the "embodiment of what hip hop was truly about. To just forget about your troubles and live in the moment and allow joy in."

"So sad to see you go my brother," he wrote in an Instagram post. "You will be missed but you will NEVER be forgotten. *raises $100 bill in honor of your memory*."

CORRECTION (Sept. 3, 2024, 9 a.m. ET): A previous version of this article misstated Fatman Scoops’ age. He was 56, not 53. (His booking agency made the correction after the article was published.)

Oasis

Hell has frozen over, pigs have flown. And the brothers Gallagher are reuniting Oasis .

In a development that, for a decade or more bordered on fantasy, the “Live Forever” band has confirmed a tour in 2025, with the promise of an extended international run.

Oasis

Why We’re (Definitely Maybe) Excited About Oasis’ Unexpected Reunion Tour

“The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised,” reads a statement on the Manchester indie rock juggernauts’ social media channels.

Announced early Tuesday, Aug. 27, Oasis will hit the road in 2025 for multiple dates across the British Isles, including Cardiff, Manchester, London, Edinburgh, and Dublin, for what will be their “only shows in Europe next year”.

Trending on Billboard

Oasis is one of Britain’s most popular rock bands of them all, a border-crossing beast which somehow flew under the radar in the United States.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Oasis (@oasis)

Discovered and signed by Alan McGee to the Scottish entrepreneur’s iconic Creation label in the early ’90s, Oasis was the heavyweight of the Britpop scene, the natural born enemy to Blur.

With the release of their 1994 debut Definitely Maybe , the band embarked on a glorious run, during which all seven of their studio albums went to No. 1 on the Official Chart (the 2010 hits collection Time Flies also flew to No. 1). The third of those, 1997’s Be Hear Now , sold more than 696,000 copies in just three days, a record that stands today.

All told, eight Oasis singles hit the summit in the U.K.

The Gallagher brothers, Noel and Liam, split the band in 2009, and became estranged. At one point, the relationship had turned legal, as their mother openly pleaded for the lads to heal that rift. Both artists formed successful musical careers away from the band that made them household names.

The rumor mill would regularly grind away, but fans were left wanting, waiting for a reunion that seemed either unlikely or impossible. Following reports in the British press, another teaser, this time with an outcome; a clip which dropped over the weekend on the Gallagher brothers’ social pages and the official Oasis page , styled like the band’s logo and hinting that something would happen today at 8am.

Noel had  previously stated  he was willing return to the band for £100 million ($135 million), to which Liam responded that he would reunite the band for free.

Oasis was nominated for the Rock Hall class of 2024, but missed out. Liam, the younger of the two siblings, didn’t seem phased. Earlier in the year, he summed up his dyspeptic feelings about the nod in a short, sharp tweet in which he wrote, “F–ck the Rock n Roll hall of fame its full of BUMBACLARTS.” The latter is a Jamaican slang term frequently employed by Gallagher on his socials when peeved to express his disdain in no uncertain terms.

Tickets for the U.K. dates go on sale from 9am local time on   Saturday, Aug. 31   from  ticketmaster.co.uk ,  gigsandtours.com  and  seetickets.com . Dublin tickets will be available from 8am   that same day from  ticketmaster.ie .

The Oasis Tour Is Already Causing Fights—and Not the Fun Kind

The biggest band reunion in years has quickly become a cock-up..

Only a matter of hours after Noel and Liam Gallagher announced that Oasis would be returning to the stage for the first time in 15 years, someone posted the following on X :

“Imagine waiting 15 years for Oasis to reform only to lose out on tickets to Chloe, 21 from Stockport who just wants to hear Wonderwall live.”

This got lots of likes and comments. On the one hand, it’s just garden-variety gatekeeping with a smattering of light misogyny thrown in. But when I read it, my first thought was: Ah, yes. Here we go again .

No doubt, demand for Oasis tickets was always going to be enormous. It was once the biggest band in the United Kingdom, with perhaps the bestselling album of the 1990s, before its infamous split in 2009 following a backstage brawl at a festival near Paris. Whatever you think of the group’s later work, the band’s first two albums were instrumental in launching Britpop, the 1990s alt-rock movement that included fellow ’60s-influenced bands like Blur. It’s easy enough to forget this, overshadowed as the music itself has been in the years since by the Gallagher brothers’ extremely public hatred of each other. They’ve been very good at it, and the vendetta has been fun, of a kind, to watch: Noel memorably describing Liam as “a man with a fork in a world of soup,” that sort of thing.

I too have sung “Wonderwall” off-key after five drinks, but I was a child during the ’90s and remember the group mostly for the drive-time-radio blah it was turning out in the mid-noughties. I must say, it was a bit surprising to learn, from tweets like the above, that Oasis has many younger fans, but it seems it does. Part of me wonders if some of this is that simply by virtue of it being from 30 years ago, any available cultural content from the ’90s has cachet. Oasis is, for many Gen Z–ers, music that their parents were listening to when they were children. But whatever the reason, it seemed as if people of all stripes and all ages were excited: an opportunity to hear Oasis live, whether to relive glory days or to see their favorite band together for the first time.

They were also angry, though, as was the man who invented a young woman to be mad at on X, before the tickets were even released. Indeed, people began to be angry before the reunion itself was even announced, when the possibility had been only hinted at in a cryptic post from the official Oasis social media accounts. And in some ways, they had good reason to be. In the recent era of megatours, fans have been waking up repeatedly to the unpleasant reality of how ticket sales work—and work mostly against them.

Lo and behold, when Saturday came around and tickets were released to the public, there was pandemonium. I stood at a pub bar looking over the shoulder of the woman in front of me, who was gazing bleakly at her phone, which showed almost 30,000 people ahead of her in the online queue for Oasis tickets. I heard of friends of friends getting booted out of the queue after waiting for hours and giving up. People took to social media and the national press to vent their frustration. One Guardian writer lamented spending the thick end of 1,500 quid on four tickets. “When you’ve queued all day and the price of the ticket has more than doubled, I just think they’ve broken their contract with the working class ,” one upset fan told the BBC.

It seems that in the years since the end of COVID lockdowns sent fans flooding back to the bleachers, every time a huge stadium tour gets announced, people learn anew about corporate greed. Dynamic pricing—the same way things like flights and Ubers work, where the more people make a booking, the higher the prices go—maddened Bruce Springsteen’s fans when his tour tickets went on sale in 2022, leading to midfloor tickets being offered for up to $5,000 . It was a similar story with Harry Styles’ concerts at Slane Castle, in Ireland, last year. And none of this is to mention the outrage prompted when Ticketmaster melted down over the unprecedented demand for Taylor Swift’s “Eras” tour, an event that led to a flurry of legislative proposals , a lawsuit from the United States Department of Justice , and Republicans and Democrats linking arms to grill ticket-sales executives on Capitol Hill. Incidentally, none of these developments have rendered dynamic pricing any less legal.

This time, as ever, Ticketmaster was quick to point out that artists, management, and promoters have to opt in to dynamic pricing, although Ticketmaster slices out a hefty percentage for its own service fees. Ticketmaster is also a subsidiary of Live Nation, which is, er, one of the promoters involved in the Oasis tour. Oasis has yet to comment on the matter.

All of this means that people get about 10 minutes to feel genuinely excited about news of a band they like getting back on the road before the material realities set in. The point at which someone has a matter of seconds to decide, after waiting hours in an online queue, whether they suddenly want to spend three times the amount they were told they’d be spending is the point at which they are being exploited. That seems like a fairly uncontroversial opinion, to me. And I know all of the obvious background here: that in the streaming era, musicians rely more than ever on live performances to make their money, that venues struggle to stay open, all of that. But still. Still! A surprise 355-pound ($465) cost for something that was advertised as being 140 pounds ($183), even if it is “just a gig,” strikes me as bad and wrong, however you might like to blame it all on “market forces”—especially when the DOJ has accused Live Nation of hampering some of those market forces via a monopoly.

At the risk of taking a news item as superficially frivolous as “Aging Brothers Agree to Be in the Same Room Again” too seriously, I find something depressing in watching this cycle play out again and again. Band announces gigs, fans get excited, fans get agitated that they won’t get tickets, fans do battle with ticket-sales websites and either do not get tickets or end up paying for them with a month’s rent. I have no skin in this particular game. I didn’t try for tickets. I’d be a “Chloe from Stockport” in this scenario: Sure, I would like to see Oasis play that one song. But—and though I accept that this is a crank’s position, that doesn’t make it any less true—it’s sad, because it’s become a normal moment in public life to watch ordinary people trying to have a good time getting squeezed for every last, desperate drop to make rich people richer. I don’t especially care that some guy with a collection of bucket hats in the back of his wardrobe will have overpaid to wave eight successive cans of lager in the air at Wembley Stadium next year. But I do (crankily) care that incidents like this mean I have to think about how dynamic pricing underpins almost everything in life, whether it’s made clear to us or not.

Idaho’s opener means more for Oregonians Jack Layne and Mark Hamper: ‘I have been dreaming about a moment like this’

Idaho quarterback Jack Layne looks to pass during an Aug. 17 scrimmage at the Kibbie Dome in Moscow, Idaho. (Geoff Crimmins/For The Spokesman-Review)

MOSCOW, Idaho – For nine players on Idaho’s team, this is personal.

Guys from Oregon, who grew up in the shade cast by the dominant Ducks before finding their way to the Vandals, will get to see Idaho line up against the third-ranked team in the country Saturday at Autzen Stadium in Eugene.

True, only three or four of them are likely to get into the game. But for Idaho’s starting quarterback, Jack Layne, a redshirt sophomore from Lake Oswego, and for one of his go-to receivers, Mark Hamper, a redshirt freshman from West Linn, playing the Ducks is not only an opportunity to test themselves against the best of the best, but a chance to live out childhood dreams.

“I have been dreaming about a moment like this my whole life,” Hamper said.

“I am super excited,” Layne said. “So far, I have 34 tickets lined up, so family and guys I grew up with are going to be there.”

That includes his father, Matt, an Oregon alum.

Layne and Hamper attended Oregon games growing up.

“When I think of college football games, this is what I think of,” Layne said. “The crowd is going to be loud, supportive and hostile.”

At practice in the Kibbie Dome this week, to simulate the anticipated atmosphere at Autzen Stadium, Idaho had recorded marching band music cranked up to high decibels.

“We are doing our best,” Layne said. “It is better than nothing, but it is going to be twice as loud there.”

“Those 70,000 people get it booming,” Hamper said.

Unlike Layne, Hamper does not have family ties to Oregon.

“My dad (Kris) graduated from the University of Washington,” he said. “I never liked the Ducks.”

Oregon offered Hamper a preferred walk-on spot, but when he was recruited in high school he said Idaho stuck out.

“This is always the place I wanted to be.”

Idaho coach Jason Eck lauds Layne’s impressive grasp of football. Against the Ducks, however, Layne expects his biggest challenge will not be discerning defenses but making plays against experienced, elite athletes.

“They are fairly vanilla, from what I have seen on film,” Layne said. “But they know their leverages. They know their rules well on defense, and they know where their help is. My biggest goal is to have a plan. My receivers can’t make a play if I don’t give them a chance, We have to use the whole football field.”

Based on their practices this week, the Vandals will not be shy about going deep if they see single coverage.

“They like to play a lot of man,” Hamper said.

The majority of the Vandals’ practice reps were short and intermediate passes, running plays and gadget offerings that Eck was circumspect about trying against the Ducks.

“You have got to have it ready,” Eck said.

Hamper said Idaho’s short, underneath passing game is designed to create “natural rubs. Take a 3-yard pass and go off for 20 yards.”

The Vandals also practiced a play in which Layne and second-team quarterback Jack Wagner, a redshirt freshman and another Oregon Vandal, from Tualatin, were in the backfield together.

“I hope we expand that package a little more,” Layne said. “Me and ‘Wags’ are close. He is way faster than me. Hopefully, going forward, I would love having him back there.”

Idaho is a 44½-point underdog , but Hamper is eager to rise to the challenge of facing a Big 10 team in the running to win a national championship.

“Playing at home, against Oregon, I couldn’t have drawn it up any better myself,” he said.

Attack in Moscow: What role does the band Picnic play?

A t least 137 people have been killed in the attack on the "Crocus City Hall" in Moscow. The Russian rock band, Picnic, was due to perform on stage on Friday. What does their performance have to do with the attack? On the evening of Friday March 22, at around 8 p.m. local time, the Moscow concert venue, Crocus City Hall, became the scene of a bloody attack -- the exact background of which is still the subject of speculation. At least 137 were killed in the massacre, while many others are in critical condition. They were all awaiting a concert by the Russian rock band Picnic, which was due to start at 9 p.m.

'Wash yourself with your own blood'

Russia has been in a state of shock ever since. While the whole world is expressing its sympathy, rumors and false information are doing the rounds. Four suspects have been brought before a court in the Russian capital. The four Tajiks were formally accused of involvement in a terrorist attack by the Basmanny district court on Sunday evening. They face possible life imprisonment. At the same time, people are wondering why the terrorists chose this particular event. Was the attack also aimed at the band Picnic?

"Fear nothing, fear nothing -- no fire, no ringing shadow. You are no longer a rosy child. Wash yourself with your own blood in the morning. And shake the blossoming day." These are some of the lyrics of Picnic's new song, which was released on March 7 on the band's YouTube channel.

Those lines sound almost prophetic, especially now in Russia. A message posted on the band's website reads, "We express our deepest sympathy to the families and friends of the victims. We pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. We are deeply shocked by this terrible tragedy and mourn with you." The band's musicians were unharmed because they were able to hide in the dressing room.

Picnic is one of the veterans of the Russian music scene, with origins in progressive rock. Founded in 1978 in St. Petersburg, which was still called Leningrad then, the band initially called itself Orion before changing its name to Picnic in 1981. Both monikers go back to the typical Soviet rock scene trick of choosing names that sound Western but cannot be banned.

In the 1980s, however, Picnic ended up on the list of bands that were denied major public appearances. The musicians and their audience therefore lived out their love for role models such as Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones in rock clubs, sometimes underground. Singer and songwriter Edmund Shklyarsky has been the band leader since 1982. The son of a renowned scientist and a concert pianist, Shklyarsky attaches great importance to his Polish roots and his Catholic faith. From an early age, his sources of inspiration were not only the Rolling Stones and The Animals, but also Russian avant-garde poetry.

Picnic members are considered war supporters

In May 2023, Russian writer and nationalist activist Zakhar Prilepin praised the band's leader. According to Prilepin, Shklyarsky actively supported the "special operation" in Ukraine, among others through monetary donations. Prelepin further presumed that this was the "normal position of a Russian man and a Russian musician" -- a statement that has neither been denied nor confirmed by the members of Picnic.

Their being booked to perform in venue as renowned as the Crocus City Hall in Moscow can be seen as proof of the band's loyalty to the Russian state -- which had demanded a clear commitment from the country's rock and pop scene, especially when the war against Ukraine began. Musicians and bands who positioned themselves against the war -- including Russian stars such as Boris Grebenshchikov (Aquarium), Yuri Shevchuk (DDT) and Zemfira -- had to leave the country and suffered career setbacks. Russian pop diva Alla Pugacheva has also sharply criticized the Putin regime from abroad.

On the other hand, stars loyal to the regime are rewarded with lucrative performances and awards. The approximately 6,200 tickets for the Picnic concert on March 22 were almost sold out, as was the planned second gig on Saturday. Ticket prices ranged from E100 to E300 and the band was to be accompanied by a symphony orchestra and a "spectacular stage and light show," at least according to advertising.

Even before Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Picnic was added to the list of artists unwelcome in Ukraine. The reason for this was the band's repeated performances on the occupied Crimean peninsula, including in Sevastopol.

The day after the tragedy, numerous interview requests, including from DW, were met with nothing but expressions of grief and shock. On Sunday, March 24, Edmund Shklyarsky released a video message. "I would like to express my condolences to all the victims and relatives of this terrible and senseless tragedy," he said, adding that no words have yet been invented that could resurrect people and comfort their fellow human beings.

Whether there's any special significance in the terrorists' choice to attack a concert by this particular band remains a matter of speculation -- as does the question of whether Crocus City Hall plays any special role as the target of the carnage.

A concert venue of superlatives

Crocus City Hall is a state-of-the-art concert hall on the grounds of an exhibition complex and is probably the most prestigious stage in Moscow among musicians. With an audience capacity of 5,000 to 10,000 people, it is much larger than a traditional concert hall and only slightly smaller than a soccer stadium. In short, a superlative venue in Moscow with no competitors.

Completed in 2009, Crocus, as it is known for short, quickly became one of Russia's most important concert halls. Located some 20 kilometers from the Kremlin, the venue can be reached within 30 minutes from the city center, depending on Moscow's notorious traffic congestions. It's faster for residents of the affluent suburbs in the west of the city, who prefer to attend the concerts there.

The excellent public transport links could have been an argument for the terrorists to choose Crocus City Hall for their attack. In addition, security precautions on the outskirts of the city are not as strict as in the center of Moscow.

Cultural events canceled in Russia

The concert hall belongs to the group of companies owned by the Azerbaijani-Russian construction tycoon and oligarch Aras Agalarov and his son Emin, a businessman and singer. There were rumors when the Crocus opened that Aras Agalarov had built his son a stage.

In recent years, however, Emin Agalarov has put his pop career on hold and concentrated primarily on the development and marketing of Crocus City Hall. Over the years, internationally renowned bands have performed here: Scorpions, Smokie, Pet Shop Boys, Nazareth and A-ha, as well as Sting, Elton John, Thomas Anders, Vanessa May and many others. In 2013, Donald Trump even strayed onto the stage, as a special guest at the final of the Miss Universe competition. But those days of cosmopolitanism are long gone.

A look at the program at Crocus City Hall gives a good insight into the sensitivities of Russian society, which oscillates between denial of reality and resignation: Concerts by regime-compliant musicians alternate with entertainment blockbusters such as Japanese drum shows or women's stand-up comedy. Now all major events have been canceled, not only in the damaged Crocus City Hall, but throughout Russia. Theaters, cinemas and museums will remain closed for the time being.

ADRIAN BELEW

“The 1981 through 1984 King Crimson created a music all its own. Timeless. Beautiful. Complex. Fierce. For the fans who lived through it then, and the ones who never got to witness it, our aim is to bring it to life again. A monumental task but we’re going for it!  There are not enough exclamation points to express my excitement!”

“Being a part of this ensemble is an extraordinary privilege and opportunity to perform some of the most beloved, timeless, and monumental music of the 80’s (and beyond) with truly inspired musicians. This music resonates deeply with me. Adrian, Tony and Danny are unique musicians with an otherworldly insight into presenting rich musical complexities in a very accessible way, and I am looking forward to searching each other’s musical minds in real time on stage. I’m sure sparks will fly.” He continues, “Father Robert Fripp is one of our historical geniuses. His highly specific and exceptionally brilliant guitar technique is studied and revered. His contribution to the quality of my musical life, and so many others is supreme. I can assure the fans of KC that I will be putting my best foot forward to respect this great music with the care and intensity it deserves. Did I say ‘sparks will fly?’”

“This is going to be quite a tour. Revisiting some of my favorite music is a treat in itself, but in company of this stellar lineup, I expect to have my musical butt kicked! And it’s also great that we’re not just playing a few shows, we’re hitting it hard. So, Road Dogs are coming to your area soon.”

DANNY CAREY

“I am very excited to share the stage with three of my favorite musicians on the planet. Tony, Steve and Adrian have always been a source of inspiration for me since the beginning of my career, and now to be able to share a bit of my musical journey with them is a dream come true. There’s nothing better to make some sparks fly and light a fire under your ass than getting out of your musical comfort zone, and I can’t think of any other three guys I’d rather do this with.  I think I can speak for all of us when I say I hope all of our fans are as excited as we are about this tour.”

Ballad Of The Brothers

The Bacon Brothers' "Ballad Of The Brothers," releasing April 19, 2024, continues their diverse "forosoco" sound journey, blending folk, rock, soul, and country. Spanning decades, their twelfth album showcases the unique talents of Kevin, an A-list actor, and Michael, an Emmy-winning composer, through sharp songwriting and storytelling. Featuring a mix of alt-rock, Motown-inspired soul, and folk, it highlights their evolution and distinct approaches to music. Raised in Philadelphia, their influences include 1970s singer/songwriters, Philly soul, and classic rock, creating a modern musical homage to their roots.

The Bacon Brothers: Ballad of the Brothers

The Bacon Brothers

For the bacon brothers, music is all about exploration..

The siblings have spent the better part of three decades creating their own mix of folk, rock, soul, and country music. They call that diverse sound "forosoco," and it's taken them around the world, from headlining gigs in Japan to American performances at iconic venues like Carnegie Hall, the Grand Ole Opry and Gruene Hall.

The exploration continues with the band's twelfth release,  Ballad Of The Brothers   . It's a record that highlights not only the similarities between Kevin Bacon (known worldwide as an A-list Hollywood actor) and Michael Bacon (celebrated as an Emmy-winning composer), but the differences, too. The two siblings may be bound together by blood and a mutual love of American roots music, but they've grown into sharp songwriters and cinematic storytellers with their own distinct approaches.  Ballad Of The Brothers  makes room for both of those approaches, offering a mix of edgy alt-rock ("Take Off This Tattoo"), Motown-inspired soul ("Put Your Hand Up"), fingerpicked folk ("Let That Be Enough"), and everything in between.

Michael Bacon sings and plays guitar

We’ve been doing this for several decades if you go back to when we first had instruments in our hands. We were raised in a family that appreciated everything that was artistic. I was in a band with our sister when I was in high school. We were given art lessons and dance lessons and acting lessons. That’s just the kind of family we grew up in. It was just a natural thing for Kevin and I to do things together. I discovered early on that he had a natural gift for sharing sentiments that were personal to him, but in fact universal as far as most people were concerned. That’s really the essence of what our band has been all about and it’s been immensely satisfying to us. — Michael Bacon

Kevin Bacon plays percussion

What’s always been surprising to me is that we’ve been able to do it for so long. The fact that we’ve kept making music is always amazing to me. Every time I write a song, I think it’s the last one I’m ever going to write. Every time we do a record, I’m definitely sure it’s the last record we’re ever going to do. But then we gather more songs. We’re a songwriting band. That’s the beginning and the end. It’s the be-all and the end-all as far as what we do. — Kevin Bacon

The Way We Love

On July 18, 2020, the brothers released their tenth record entitled The Way We Love , which contains a series of songs that explore those intimate relationships with the people and ideals that become a source of both purpose and passion. The album contains ten tracks, seven of which were produced by  Michael & Kevin , two by Philadelphia producer/engineer Joe Nicolo , one produced by Saverio Principini . Two of the exceptional offerings were recorded live at Sony Hall in New York City. It’s also one of their most emotionally charged collections to date, and one of their most dynamic and diverse as well.
