AirAsia ASEAN Pass- Asia

Cost: $160-$290

AirAsia, the beloved discount carrier serving 10 Southeast Asian countries, and 70 destinations and counting offers a potentially lucrative air pass. There are two passes, good for 10 flights in 30 days, or 20 flights in 60 days. The 60 day pass goes for $290, offering potential to visit 20 Asian cities in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Philippines. Full details . As a discount carrier – extras will cost extra.

Airline Alliance Passes – Worldwide

Cost: Varies.

Though they’re not at all publicized, virtually each major alliance and their respective airlines offer unlimited flight passes for each continent. To be eligible, you need to fly to that region from somewhere outside the region, using the same airline alliance. These passes can generally only be booked and quoted over the phone – but they can save a fortune, while also earning miles. Here’s SkyTeam , OneWorld and Star Alliance too.

Azul Air Pass – Brazil

Cost: $399-$499.

If you’re headed to Brazil, this may be your ticket. For anyone venturing to the country from outside Brazil , Azul has a variety of passes which offer unlimited flights. 10 days of unlimited flying would run $399, whereas 21 days would jump to just $499. There’s so much to see from rainforest to beaches, so this can be a great way to save.  Full details .

British Airways Flight Pass – Europe

British Airways flight pass allows frequent travelers to hedge their costs. The pass does not allow travelers to mix and match cities, but rather to lock in a set number of flights on any route for a set price. Prices start £45 one way, for flights between London and European destinations. Restrictions may make this unfriendly for some, but for others it could be a great move. Full details .

Southwest Companion Pass – US (Hawaii Too)

Cost: Roughly $5.60 per flight, for unlimited flights all year.

The Southwest Companion Pass is an incredible pick up for travel with a companion. Covering the U.S. and Hawaii, the pass allows a second person to “fly free” all year, even when the primary person is using points. The second person just pays the taxes of roughly $5.60. It’s possible to earn the pass just with credit card spending – making this very lucrative- even if you don’t fly! Yet…

As for the JetBlue contest , you have a far better chance of being struck by lightning, eaten by a shark or winning the lottery – but go for it .

air india unlimited travel pass

Following on from my post on airline stopover programs, I wanted to continue to explore more of the unique ways that airlines around the world strive to offer value for customers.

Flight passes are bundles of prepaid flights that are valid within a specific region and for a limited amount of time. Put differently, flight passes are akin to buying flights in bulk. Many airlines around the world offer passes in various forms, each with its own unique benefits and drawbacks.

Whether or not you can benefit from a flight pass depends on how often you travel and the places you travel to. If you are a budget-conscious traveller, the idea of forking out thousands of dollars for speculative travel may be terrifying, as you can often get better deals by watching out for flight sales throughout the year.

On the other hand, if you travel during peak travel periods or often make last-minute bookings, it could be very worthwhile to look into buying a number of flight credits in advance. Similarly, if you plan to do a lot of travel in a short period of time, you may benefit from buying an unlimited flight pass.

Let’s have a look at some flight passes offered in Canada and abroad. If you have used a different flight pass that isn’t on the list, feel free to reach out and we’ll make sure it gets added.

In This Post

Different types of flight passes, unlimited flight passes, flight credit passes.

Flight passes generally come in two different varieties. Some flight passes offer unlimited travel within a restricted time frame. If you plan on doing a lot of travel within the permitted time frame, these unlimited passes can offer substantial value over buying one-way or multi-city flights.

Unlimited flight passes are best used by maximizing your travel over a short amount of time. If you’re the type of traveler who likes to see as many places as possible when you visit a new country, or if you need to cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time for work or play, these passes could be worth looking into.

A more common type of flight pass is purchasing a number of flight credits that are redeemed for travel between specified zones within a specific time frame. Each time you go to book a flight, you use a credit instead of being subject to the currently available fares.

This type of flight pass is typically purchased by someone who often travels back and forth between two areas. Perhaps you’re a snowbird who travels between Toronto and Arizona a handful of times between fall and spring. Maybe your vocation requires you to travel between Vancouver and Toronto to meet clients in person. Or, you might be a student studying in Montreal but based out of Edmonton, and your parents are generous enough to fly you back for holidays and breaks.

We’ll first look at the most notable unlimited flight passes offered around the world, followed by the flight pass programs that operate on a per-credit basis.

Flair Airlines

Earlier this year, Flair Airlines sold the Go Travel Pass , which offered unlimited travel within its Canadian network between February 13 and May 13, 2020. For $499, passengers could book flights on any day of the week except for Fridays and Sundays and during blackout periods (long weekends and Spring Break). For $699, passengers could travel on any day of the week and had one checked bag per flight.

The pass covered the base fare only, so passengers were still on the hook for the taxes and fees for each flight they booked. For example, a flight between Halifax and Toronto has a base fare of $42.27 and taxes and fees of $46.73. So, a pass-holder would be on the hook for $46.73, which is a very reasonable amount to pay (but adds up with each flight you take).

While I can’t say that I have a particular desire to fly with Flair on a regular basis, I can see this pass offering substantial value to anyone wanting to visit as many places in Canada as possible on their holidays. The pass would definitely help you stretch your travel budget so you could make up for the in-flight experience with a variety of on-the-ground experiences.

Air Canada also offers unlimited flight passes for use in a variety of zones in their domestic and transborder networks. In comparison to Flair’s Go Travel Pass, a similar unlimited pass with Air Canada is many orders of magnitude more expensive, coming in at a whopping $5,028 per month!

(In addition, Air Canada also sells flight passes in the form of credits, which will be covered below.)

Azul Airlines

If you’re planning a visit to Brazil, Azul Airlines’s Azul Airpass gives you unlimited flights within their domestic network for 10 or 21 days. If you have an international paid ticket on United, TAP, or Azul Airlines to Brazil, you can buy a 10-day Airpass for US$399 (plus booking fees) or a 21-day Airpass for US$499 (plus booking fees). If you fly to Brazil with any other carrier, you can buy an Airpass valid for four flights within a 21-day period for US$499 (plus booking fees).

A quick search for flights within Brazil shows that you can get flights between Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo for $20, so if you only plan on visiting Brazil’s major tourist hotspots, then this may not be the best choice for you. Over the course of three weeks, though, you could definitely get your money’s worth by hopping around the surprisingly large country.

Bamboo Airways

Bamboo Aiways, based in Hanoi, Vietnam, is currently offering Bamboo Passes valid in their domestic and international networks. The Bamboo Pass Unlimited gives cardholders unlimited travel for one-, three-, six-, and twelve-month durations for $3,000, $9,000, $14,400, and $25,200 respectively.

Bamboo Airways flies to the Czech Republic, Australia, Indonesia, Los Angeles and San Francisco in the US, most countries in East and Southeast Asia, and extensively within Vietnam. Over the course of a month, I imagine you could squeeze value out of the pass by jet-setting around Vietnam and the world, if it was safe to travel.

VietJet Air

VietJet is another discount Vietnamese airline with hubs in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Currently, they are offering two unlimited passes for flights to 45 destinations within Vietnam.

For $536, the Power Pass Sky6 pass gives you unlimited travel within Vietnam until the end of September. Similarly, for $1,012, the Power Pass Sky12 pass extends the period until March 31, 2021. This includes a 15kg checked bag and a 7kg carry-on bag, but you are still on the hook for taxes and fees.

A quick search for flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi shows a total round-trip cost of $64 on their lowest fare. Of this, $52 was taxes and fees, so I’m not sure if this particular product is a sensational value (even with the included baggage). I think the value here would come in last-minute bookings or bookings during peak travel periods, which seems to be a common theme with flight passes.

The more common alternative to paying for “unlimited” travel is to buy flight pass credits. These credits are akin to buying a 10-pack of one-way public transit tickets – you pay for a number of trips in advance, and you usually pay a bit less than what you would have paid if you bought 10 separate one-way journeys.

Flight passes aren’t really of use to the occasional traveller because of their high upfront cost; instead, they are best used for flexibility in last-minute bookings or cancellations, booking during peak-season travel, or travelling back and forth between two regions on a frequent basis.

Air Canada offers a variety of flight passes for travel across Canada, between Canada and the United States, and to many of its international destinations. The price is inclusive of all taxes, fees, and surcharges, so once you’ve purchased a pass, you need not spend a penny more.

The type of flight pass you need depends on where you need to fly and the type of fare from which you’d benefit most. In total, there are 44 different flight passes available, with options in a mid-range economy fare (Flex), a full-fare economy fare (Latitude), or a business class fare. Less expensive fares will be less flexible, may incur fees for changes and cancellations, and are subject to the availability of “M” Flex fares.

For individuals, most passes are sold in packages of 6 or 10 credits. There are also options for businesses ranging from 30 to 200 flight credits. Each one-way flight journey costs 1 credit (even if it consists of multiple flight segments), and booking is done through Air Canada’s dedicated flight pass portal.

Suppose you’re a teacher working in Toronto but whose family lives in Vancouver. You tend to travel in peak periods when you have time away from work over the December holidays, Spring Break in March, long weekends, and during the summer break.

You stumble upon the East West Connector Pass, and you’re weighing out the benefits of purchasing one.

The average price per flight is $577.10 one-way (or $1,154.20 round-trip), and since it’s a Flex ticket, you also earn 2,085 Aeroplan miles per direction and have one free checked bag. Over the December holidays, the current price for a Standard fare ticket is $1,137.32 excluding a checked-bag and earning only 521 Aeroplan miles.

While the difference in price isn’t substantial, you’ll save some money on bags and earn more Aeroplan miles for your trip. If you have eUpgrade credits, you can use them for the Flex fare, but not on the Standard fare. And if the price rises substantially, or if you are booking closer to the date of travel, then because you’ve paid in advance, you will only have paid $577.10 per direction.

Lastly, if you have Altitude status with Air Canada, you can earn additional eUpgrade credits if you purchase a flight pass. To do so, you’ll need to select “eUpgrade credits for eligible flight pass activities” from Bundle 2 of your Altitude Select Privileges.

Porter Airlines

Toronto-based Porter Airlines sells the Porter Pass . They operate in a very similar way to Air Canada’s – you prepay for a bundle of flight credits, and you have one year from the date of purchase to use them.

Unlike Air Canada, Porter Passes of 20 or more flight credits are transferrable to anyone else. So, a family of five could each have two round-trip flights per year if they had 20 credits at their disposal. For Porter’s destinations in Canada, each flight would cost $272 per person, which isn’t unreasonable for, say, a flight from Toronto to St. John’s.

The Qantas Explorer Pass lets you add a series of domestic flights within Australia to a transpacific booking from Canada or the United States with Qantas or American Airlines.

Adding the domestic flights is easy – just head to the multi-city booking page and sandwich them between your international flights.

Note that the routes are divided into three zones, as shone above, and each zone has an associated fare. If you stick to direct flights between cities, you’ll avoid paying the fare for two different zones.

For example, if you’re in Uluru (Ayers Rock) and you’d like to get to Adelaide, you’ll have to fly through Sydney or Melbourne, thus incurring fares from Zone B (Uluru to Sydney) and Zone A (Sydney to Adelaide). Instead, you could consider flying into Alice Springs, doing a side trip to Uluru, and then continue on to Adelaide. You could also consider incorporating a vehicle relocation into your trip.

Thanks to Hazzan for bringing this pass to our attention in the comments.

British Airways & Other Major Carriers

British Airways’s Flight Pass covers flights between London and European hubs. This can be an alternative to low-cost carriers, whose bare-bones products may be less appealing to those who travel for business or who prefer a certain level of comfort.

Interestingly, the price also changes depending on how far out you’d like to be able to book flights. The farther in advance you purchase, the less you pay per flight. Similarly, the closer in advance you tend to book, the more you pay per flight.

While these passes aren’t really useful for anyone visiting Europe on holidays, if you live in London or any of the hubs to which British Airways flies, and if you need to fly between the two cities often for any reason, this flight pass can save you money without being subjected to travelling on a low-cost carrier.

British Airways’s product is one of many similar flight pass products offered by major airlines across the world, and poring over the details of each airline likely wouldn’t reveal any significant differences.

There are, however, a few interesting regional flight passes that are worth discussing.

If you find yourself on an aspirational trip to the archipelagos of French Polynesia, it would be worthwhile to look into an Air Tahiti Pass . The pass allows you to travel between several or many of the islands at a very reasonable price.

For example, the Bora Bora pass allows you to visit Moorea, Huahine, Raiatea, Bora Bora, and Maupiti for either $625 (lower fare, less baggage allowance, less flexibility) or $807 (higher fare, more baggage allowance, more flexibility).

Anyone headed to Bora Bora would have to book an international flight to Tahiti before taking a separate domestic Air Tahiti flight to Bora Bora. And since Air Tahiti is the sole operator of domestic flights in French Polynesia, they charge a significant premium on this 50-minute route: fares are usually around $583 round-trip per person.

Therefore, by going with a flight pass starting at $625, you can add an additional four destinations to your French Polynesian trip for only a few dollars more, which can offer incredible value.

Each pass is valid for travel within 28 days, and your journey must begin and end in either Tahiti or Moorea. You can only visit each destination once, although stopovers of less than 24 hours in hubs are allowed. You’ll need to plan your trip according to Air Tahiti’s flight schedule, so make sure you’ve planned that out in advance.

Caribbean Airlines

Similar to the Air Tahiti Pass is the Caribbean Airlines Explorer Pass . The airline operates flights between Antigua, the Bahamas, Barbados, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Tobago, and Trinidad.

The Explorer Pass allows you to hop between three or more islands over the course of 21 days, although the fares don’t include taxes and fees for each flight segment.

While most people who travel to the Caribbean likely visit only one island, the Explorer Pass could give you the option to experience a few different islands on one trip.

I’ve long wanted to island hop around the Caribbean, and this pass seems like a reasonably affordable way to do so, especially if combined with the possibility of redeeming Avios on select British Airways fifth-freedom flights (like Antigua–St. Kitts).

At a time when the vast majority of passengers and planes around the world remain grounded, the idea of regularly flying across the country for business or pleasure remains far-fetched for now. As soon as it becomes possible to fly again, I’m sure many of you (myself included) would like nothing more than to hop on any plane for the sole purpose of being in the clouds en route to anywhere.

While the future of frequent flying remains unsure for the time being, flight passes may be worth your consideration if you plan on spending a lot of time in one area or if you frequently travel back and forth between two areas. For those who speculate that the future cost of air travel will substantially increase, flight passes may be a way to secure relatively affordable air travel when it becomes possible to fly again.

I’d be curious to hear from those of you who use flight passes for business or personal travel. Have you monitored the cost of flights to calculate if flight passes are worth the price tag? Are there any other airlines that have interesting flight passes? Feel free to leave a comment below.

Southwest Airlines Companion Pass offer: What to know about buy-one-get-one flights deal

air india unlimited travel pass

DALLAS - Southwest Airlines is bringing back its Companion Pass promotion, which allows certain customers to take someone for nearly free on unlimited flights.

Generally, the popular promotion requires travelers to book 100 qualifying one-way flights or earn 135,000 qualifying points, and they’ll earn a Companion Pass for the remainder of the year and the following full calendar year.

But for the latest offer, Southwest is running a flash promotion in which customers can earn a two-month Companion Pass by booking one round trip or two one-way qualifying flights.

Here’s what to know about the new deal:

Southwest Airlines Companion Pass offer

  • To qualify for Southwest’s latest promotion, travelers need to first become a Rapid Rewards member .
  • Next, they’ll need to register here for the Companion Pass promotion , and purchase a qualifying Southwest flight – either one round trip or two one-way qualifying flights – through Sept. 5, 2024.
  • The customer must travel by Nov. 20, 2024, and they’ll be able to designate a companion to fly for free with them between Jan. 6, 2025, and March 6, 2025, Southwest said.

All the companion has to pay are the taxes and fees for the flight, which start at $5.60 one-way.

Members can also change their designated companion "up to three times while they have the promotional Companion Pass," the airline said.

Typically, eligible flights must be paid in part with cash to earn a promotional Companion Pass, according to The Points Guy . But for the latest promotion, Southwest flights booked solely with Rapid Rewards points also qualify, according to the deal’s terms and conditions.

Southwest to start assigning seats, offer extra legroom and redeye flights

In a move announced in July, Southwest said it plans to start assigning seats to travelers, as well as offering premium seating for customers who want more legroom — breaking a 50-year tradition for the carrier with the open seating model.

The carrier also announced that it would offer redeye flights for the first time as well, with nonstop routes from Las Vegas to Baltimore and Orlando; Los Angeles to Baltimore and Nashville; and Phoenix to Baltimore.

Southwest said its first overnight flight will land on Feb. 14, 2025, and it plans to phase in additional redeye flights over time.

air india unlimited travel pass

New Delhi [India], June 8 (ANI/ Prince Air): Prince Air, a New Delhi-based start-up created by Sanket Raj Singh is offering a one-of-a-kind subscription-based airline service for unlimited travel on its private jets.

Founded on the concept that exclusive experiences can be inclusive, Prince Air is designed to offer its services to patrons for a fraction of the usual cost – making its member travel affordable and accessible to everyone. Its service is also faster and more efficient, by cutting down the time spent at airports. That means a round trip flight from Delhi to Mumbai and back, would save at least 3 hours via Prince Air.

Prince Air cuts the cost by up to 50% of the usual commercial airline cost for flying business class in India- and up to 95% of what charter operators charge to fly on a private jet.

As stated by Singh: “Earlier, our plans were to Introduce Bombardier/Embraer Jets. Our monthly subscription cost was in between 1.5 Lakh INR to 2 Lakh INR where a member could fly Unlimited to-from New Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru on our private jets, but I think in a place like India, we had to think out of the box. Something which has never been done or tried in India before.”

Owing by the pandemic of the past year, the aviation industry was hit hard both in India and globally. Though it caused much disruption, it gave us time to re-think what could we do, so that we could make Prince Air affordable for every person in India.

Keeping in mind the ticket price for economy class, business class and private jets – we came up with something which would be a game changer for the Indian aviation industry. That means cutting the cost of travelling business class in India by almost by 50%, in a business model where the same service can be enjoyed by economy class passengers as well as people who fly on a private jet in India.

As it currently stands, Private Aviation is a very immature market in India and has not yet been as democratized as it could be. That means until now, only HNIs and VIPs could afford the price tag attached to a private jet as well as business class in India. That was then, this is now. We thought of changing the aircraft and getting a bigger aircraft like an Airbus A-320 or A-321, comprising a complete business class airline that offers a private jet experience. Instead of having 180 to 220 economy seats per aircraft, we would only have 90-100 Business/First Class seats – giving our members more space and comfort, all while travelling at a budgeted price.

A realistic model of our system work as follows: The monthly subscription cost to fly unlimited to-from New Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru per member would be USD 747, which is 54500 INR based on the 5 tickets/seats we would offer each member monthly. This means a member can fly across New Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru as frequently as they want for just USD 747 – a monthly cost of 54500 INR.

On average, a return Delhi-Mumbai-Delhi Business Class Seat with Domestic Carriers cost around USD 493, which equates to 36000 INR. For a Delhi-Bengaluru-Delhi return flight, the cost is usually USD 575 which is 42000 INR, and even more on certain days. A Delhi-Mumbai-Delhi costs anywhere between 8 to 10 lakhs on a private jet in India.

That all changes with Prince Air. Now, you can fly Delhi-Mumbai-Bengaluru unlimited at just $747 monthly (54500 INR) on our private jets.

We hope to expand and connect the entire nation with Prince Air in future. Our second and third phase sectors would be Amritsar, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Pune, Chennai and Hyderabad. A member can fly to all sectors at the same price on our private jets, which is only USD 747 or 54500 INR monthly.

AND WHAT’S MORE?

A member can come and enjoy our lounge before the flight, with complimentary beverages and snacks and a serene environment to relax in before take-off.. This is a close community of members where you can meet and greet each other and relax at our lounge. We will be doing private events only for our members.

Singh believes that “there is definitely a market out there for a service like Prince Air, where people are looking for something which has a different experience when it comes to flying private, and is in between a commercial airline and a charter company in India. This is where Prince Air fits in where we allow our members to travel in style and comfort but at a fraction of cost. It’s a new way to jet off in style with luxury and privacy but without the price tag. It would have the coolest looking jet’s in India.”

With full optimism and the bright-eyed world-view of someone with a revolutionary new service, Singh comments: “I’m definitely sure people would love Prince Air as there are very few options in India for air travel. It’s always better to offer a choice when it comes to flying by air and people would spend little extra to fly on our private jets. To minimise the risk of catching COVID, people would want to feel safe when flying and with a service on a private jet like an All Business Class Airline, it definitely would be safer to travel.”

Air Travel use to be fun at one point in time, and we want to bring it back by offering a private jet experience that people get dressed up for, with flights they can enjoy. Our aim is to bring an overwhelming experience to the travel part with Prince Air. We’ll make people addicted when travelling with Prince Air and want to offer what no one has ever offered in India before.

air india unlimited travel pass

We are here to offer you an exclusive travel experience never before seen in India, creating a much better experience when it comes to flying by Air. Following the new travel protocol with guaranteeing an A Class service, we want to leave our travellers speechless once they start travelling with us. Our ultimate aim is to re-define air travel by offering luxury cabin interiors, hand stitched leather seats, customised art lighting and a sophisticated sound experience in flight.

The shared economy is the future. International travel will still take time to come back but travel for leisure purposes will come back soon as people have gotten weary of staying indoors for almost a year and counting. Once the vaccination has been fully conducted across India, people will be looking to fly out and enjoy a holiday with their loved ones.

Singh goes on to state, “we are looking for corporations and individuals who can enjoy our services. Sectors like the high end real estate market across India especially in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru could increase their sales by offering Prince Air memberships to people buying high end apartments/properties with them. If you’re selling a high end property, you need to offer something exclusive to the ones buying a property with you. Along with this, the luxury car market could also benefit by offering Prince Air memberships to the ones buying a luxury car with companies like Audi, BMW and Mercedes – helping to increase their sales here as well across India.”

Prince Air is currently in talks with some of India’s Largest Travel portal companies, which would help them sell subscriptions across their platform to acquire members and become their travel partners.

Services such as chauffeured driven luxury car services for airport pick up and drop off will also be available to Prince Air members. Prince Air is making prospective arrangements with hospitality brands for exclusive benefits as well for its members. With this, we would be collaborating with some high end brands and passing on the benefits to our members.

air india unlimited travel pass

The booking process for Prince Air will be completely digitised and app-based. Travellers will be able to use the arrive and fly process which will include customisable services across several strategic pillars, from bookings to arrivals. They will be allowed to skip airport security and will only need to arrive 30 mins prior to departure. The private jet flights would be accessed from a different entry point. A dedicated member services team to assist members will also be available at all times.

With the new Digital Health Passport, we will get contactless mobile payments along with facial recognition technology and boarding passes on the Prince Air app in future.

Prince Air plans to launch in the next couple of months and are pre-selling memberships as of now. To know more and become one of the founding members of Prince Air. Ukraine war latest: Iran transfers 'more than 200 missiles' to Russia; Putin 'cocky and smug', says CIA chief

The US has warned of "dramatic" Iranian escalation - after reports emerged that short-range missiles had been sent from Tehran to Moscow. Putin was branded both "cocky" and "smug" by the CIA director during a joint security conference with the head of MI6.

We're pausing our live coverage - thanks for following along.

We've spent much of the day discussing Iranian-Russian relations - with Sky News being told by a Ukrainian source that hundreds of short-range ballistic missiles have arrived in Russia from Iran.

Kyiv expressed concerns - just a day after Volodymyr Zelenskyy renewed calls for the West to supply Ukraine with weapons that could strike airfields on Russian soil.

On the battlefield, Moscow reported further advances in the east of Ukraine, while Kyiv continues to hold a significant portion of the Kursk region in Russia

We'll be back tomorrow with more updates on the Ukraine war.

Funerals for those killed in a massive Russian attack on a military academy in Poltava have taken place today.

More than 50 people were killed in Tuesday's attack, which the country's first lady described as a "stunning tragedy for all of Ukraine".

Russia's defence ministry said the strike targeted soldiers and foreign instructors.

Iran's alleged supply of ballistic missiles to Russia is worrying, our   military analyst Sean Bell   says.

Bell says Russia "tends to use older weapons" but unlike Ukraine it "has the volume".

"Both sides are struggling for weapons and at the moment Russia has ramped up its domestic production but it desperately needs weapons from Iran and North Korea," he says.

The delivery reportedly contains short-range ballistic missiles.

"They will give Russia more volume of missiles but it will also mean Russia's limited supply of its own Iskander missiles can now be focused on long range targets - that's very worrying," he says.

"We [also] understand that Russian soldiers have been in Iran doing training for the last few weeks."

Speaking on the UK's announcement yesterday that it will supply more than 650 missiles to Ukraine, the military expert says the challenge will be the need for caution about providing the war-torn country with the most modern weapons in case they fall into Russian hands.

He adds: "Ukraine desperately needs that technology and volume, so that's the big challenge at the moment."

More from the directors of the CIA and MI6, who were speaking at the FT weekend festival earlier today.

During the event, Bill Burns discussed the prospect of nuclear war erupting at the start of the Ukraine-Russia conflict.

Speaking alongside the head of MI6 he said: "There was a moment in the fall of 2022 when I think there was a genuine risk of a potential use of tactical nuclear weapons.

"The [US] president sent me to talk to our Russian counterpart, Sergei Naryshkin, at the end of 2022 to make very clear what the consequences of that kind of escalation would be," he added.

"I don't think we can afford to be intimidated by that sabre-rattling or bullying [but] we've got to be mindful of it."

Russia has frequently threatened nuclear war since the start of the conflict in February 2022.

By Deborah Haynes , security and defence editor

Iran has transferred short-range ballistic missiles to Russia for its war in Ukraine, a Ukrainian source has told Sky News.

The move - reportedly involving more than 200 missiles - would mark a significant ramping up of Iranian military support to Moscow, if confirmed.

Bill Burns, the director of the CIA, was asked about the claim when he appeared at an event in London with his British counterpart, Sir Richard Moore, the head of MI6.

He did not confirm the allegation, but said: "Should Iran ship ballistic missiles... it would be a dramatic escalation of the nature of the defence partnership."

The Ukrainian source said a Russian ship delivered the Fatah-360 missiles - each with a range of more than 70 miles - to a Russian port in the Caspian Sea.

It's anticipated that the munitions will now undergo tests.

The Russian military will then conduct training on them - before they are launched against Ukraine.

Iran has long been feared of having supplied ballistic missiles to Russia.

The Iranian regime has already supplied large quantities of attack drones as well as artillery shells and ammunition, helping to bolster Russian firepower on the battlefield to devastating effect.

Ukrainian drones hit a munitions depot in the Russian region of Voronezh overnight, a Ukrainian security source has told the Reuters news agency.

The attack, which took place last night, was on what Ukraine believed to be a depot used to transfer weapons and ammunition to Ukraine.

You can see the Voronezh region highlighted on this map - bordering both the Belgorod and Kursk regions.

"At this moment, there are still four pockets of a powerful fire observed at the site, as well as the unceasing detonation of munitions," the source said, adding that the attack was carried out by the Ukrainian SBU security service.

Alexander Gusev, the Russian governor, said this morning "explosive objects" had detonated after a fire in the region's Ostorogozhsky district.

He said there had been no casualties, but that a state of emergency had been declared locally, with several hundred people evacuated and a major road closed.

Our security and defence editor Deborah Haynes   was there for us - and noted one particularly interesting part of the discussion between Sir Richard Moore and Bill Burns...

Vladimir Putin was branded both "cocky" and "smug" by the CIA director during a joint security conference with the head of MI6 run by the Financial Times.

You can watch Bill Burns and Sir Richard Moore discuss the Russian president here...

Ukraine's foreign ministry has expressed concern over reports that Iranian short-range ballistic missiles have been transferred to Russia.

In a statement sent to journalists, the ministry said the deepening military co-operation between Tehran and Moscow was a threat to Ukraine, Europe and the Middle East.

It also called on the international community to increase pressure on the two countries.

CNN and the Wall Street Journal both reported yesterday that Iran had already transferred missiles to Russia, citing unidentified sources, although how many was not yet clear.

However, Reuters  reporting  from August suggested that Russia was expecting "hundreds" of the Fath-360 close-range ballistic missiles - and that Russian military personnel were being trained inside Iran on how to use them.

Earlier this morning, we reported that the US would view this move as dramatically escalatory (see 8.12am post).

You can also read about what Iran gets out of its dealings with Russia in our 10.30am post.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy said yesterday Ukraine now controls more than 1,300sq km in the Kursk region.

The Ukrainian president also suggested that the invasion has resulted in about 6,000 casualties among Russian forces so far.

But how has that impacted the war inside Ukraine?

Analysts have suggested that Russia has moved some troops from the frontlines, but has not committed the crack forces required to throw Ukraine off its soil thus far.

Ukraine's top military commander Oleksandr Syrskyi told CNN that the operation in the Kursk region was working and that there had been no Russian advances on a key sector of the eastern front inside Ukraine for six days.

"Over the last six days, the enemy hasn't advanced a single metre in the Pokrovsk direction. In other words, our strategy is working," he said.

Mr Syrskyi said the military had also noted a decrease in shelling and the intensity of the Russian offensive in other sectors.

'Significant tactical achievement'

Speaking at a joint security conference with the head of MI6, CIA chief Bill Burns said the invasion marks a "significant tactical achievement".

However, MI6 boss Richard Moore said it was too soon to say how soon Kyiv could hold the territory.

The national picture...

When it comes to the national picture, Russia is pressing on with its goal to take over the east of the country.

They are slowly inching forward towards the city of Pokrovsk - just northwest of Donetsk - which provides critical rail and supply links for the Ukrainian army.

Losing the city could put additional Ukrainian cities at risk.

This morning, Russia's defence ministry claimed Moscow's troops have claimed the village of Kalynove -just lies southeast of Pokrovsk.

Air India is returning to Moscow after having suspended services due to the pandemic. The airline operated its first flight to the city's Sheremetyevo Airport on Saturday. The route is currently intended to be run once per week.

We've seen many airlines slowly rebuilding their networks, having had to deal with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Given the lack of passengers traveling, many airlines were faced with the choice of flying empty planes or cutting services. Almost all went for the latter option. This was mostly the case in India, where nearly all international flights were halted for a period.

Flying once a week

On Saturday, Air India relaunched services to Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport (SVO). The new route is set to be operated once a week in each direction. The first flight (AI155) departed Delhi (DEL) on time at 18:00 on Saturday, according to data from RadarBox.com . Following a seven-hour and one-minute flight, it touched down in Moscow at 22:31, four minutes ahead of its scheduled arrival.

After spending the night in Moscow, the return flight departed slightly late at 19:09 on Sunday instead of the scheduled 18:50. However, what the aircraft lost on departure, it made up on the flight to Delhi. Despite departing 20 minutes late, it landed in Delhi five minutes early at 03:45 on Monday morning.

As mentioned, Air India will be using an Airbus A320neo for the service. For the first rotation, the airline used VT-CIP. According to data from Planespotters.net , this aircraft was delivered to the airline new in July 2018, making it 2.6 years old. The aircraft is leased from Avolon.

How is India's international flight recovery going?

India is currently banning international flights. Having been extended several times, the ban is now in force until the end of March 2021 . However, this doesn't mean that international flights aren't happening. After all, if that were the case, Air India wouldn't be flying to Moscow.

Instead, the government is allowing flights to travel bubbles, in addition to repatriation flights. Cargo-only flights are also permitted as they carry less risk of importing the COVID-19 virus.

It has been a year since the number of international flights operated to and from India started to fall drastically. Since then, however, the sector has been showing a steady recovery.

According to data from RadarBox.com , the daily average number of international flights to and from India currently stands at 538, around half of that seen this time last year (1161). At its worst, this figure dropped to just 65 in the second week of April 2020. Unfortunately, the same strong recovery hasn't been maintained around the world.

Air India set to fly to Moscow from July 18, 2014

July 3, 2014 by Ajay 5 Comments

Air India is on a roll these days expanding its international network, on the back of the 787s that are coming into their fleet. And I like it, purely because they are an international airline and need to be connecting to various countries to be able to be called on. Yes, they are losing money, but if they have a fighting chance to try their way back into being the preferred airline for Indians, they had to go international.

After moving many of their loss-making routes to the 787s, they are now focussing on starting new ones. They recently launched flights to Italy , and are now going to launch flights to Russia again. This route was served long time ago, and is now back in service four times a week on the 787 from 18 July 2014.

Here are the timings of this flight:

AI155 DEL0155 – 0615DME 788 x247 AI154 DME0820 – 1530DEL 788 x247

Now, if you’d  be interested, they are even offering INR 30,000 round trip fares to get you there, since that seems to be the only number their sales guys seems to be able to fill up the planes with.

Well, I think I looked for DEL-Moscow! Now, Delhi-Moscow shows 44k while Moscow-Delhi shows 384euros which is 32k!

@Rajiv, I looked up a random date in July 2014 and I am pricing a return trip DEL-DME-DEL at 33K INR.

@Rajiv, if you are starting your journey in Moscow, it will show the price in Euros. E.g. Delhi – Moscow – Delhi will price out in INR while Moscow – Delhi – Moscow will price out in EUR.

For whatever reason AI site shows in Euros! It says 448 euros i.e ~38k. Are you seeing 30k?
