As a way to show appreciation to the service members, many cruise lines offer significant discounts on their sailings, including up to 50% off on select cruises. To take advantage of these discounts, military personnel can contact the cruise line directly or book through a travel agent that specializes in military travel. Some cruise lines also require proof of military service, such as a military ID or DD214 form, at the time of booking or check-in.
Each cruise line offers different discounts and policies for military personnel, so it is important to research and compare offers before booking a cruise. Some cruise lines, like Carnival and Royal Caribbean, offer year-round military discounts, while others, like Norwegian Cruise Line and Princess Cruises, offer military discounts on select sailings.
In addition to the discounts, many cruise lines offer special perks to military personnel, such as priority boarding, onboard credits, and free upgrades. Some cruise lines also have dedicated USO centers onboard, allowing military personnel to connect with their families and support networks while at sea.

Military Discounts for Cruises
Last updated on March 10th, 2024 at 01:59 pm
Military personnel, whether active, retired, or veteran, make many sacrifices to serve their country. As an acknowledgment of these sacrifices, most cruise lines offer some form of discount to members of the military.
The perks from a cruise line for being a member of the military can come in the form of discounts, special rates, or onboard credits, depending on the line.
From knowing the different types of discounts available to understanding the best way to book a cruise, this guide will help you find a cruise that offers military discounts.
Table of Contents
Qualifications For Military Discounts
Military discounts are given to those who qualify, so you must meet certain requirements. While the types of requirements might vary between cruise lines, generally the standards you will need to meet are listed below.
An individual must be classified as one of the following:
1. Active personnel currently serving in the Canadian National Defense, United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard, or Reserves.
2. Retired from any of the divisions listed above. The definition of “retired” is a person with a minimum of 20 years of service, medically retired or 100% disabled .
3. Veterans with an Honorable Discharge that served a minimum of 2 years, or served 6 months in an active war zone, in any of the United States services listed above.
4. Spouses of actively deployed or deceased military personnel are eligible to book one stateroom as long as the eligible spouse is occupying the stateroom.
To be able to receive a military discount, you must present proper identification. That identification is usually in the form of a United States Uniformed Service white identification card for US military personnel.
For Canadian personnel, it is a white N.D.21 identification card with a red Canadian flag displayed for Canadian National Defense. You will be asked to present your card at the time of check-in and again at embarkation.
For specific requirements, check the cruise line website that you are interested in sailing with for more details.
How to Find Military Discounts
Finding military discounts for cruises is as simple as logging on to the cruise line’s website or calling the cruise line directly.
The best place for accurate and up-to-date information on military discounts is with the individual cruise line. It may take a bit of your time to research a particular line, but would be worth it to save some money.
Here are some of the cruise lines that offer military discounts:
Norwegian Cruise Line
In November of 2022, NCL launched their first-ever Military Appreciation Program . Designed to benefit active and retired U.S. military members and their spouses, the program has discounts across the company’s 18-ship fleet.
NCL’s program will give eligible military personnel a 10% discount on their cruise fare. This program can be combined with their Free At Sea offer.
Carnival Cruise Military Cruise Deals
Carnival offers reduced rates to military personnel. In addition to that there are deals that are offered in May and November for Memorial and Veteran’s Day.
Some of the offers are for discounted fates, complimentary cabin upgrades and/or onboard credit. Contact the cruise line for specifics either online or at 1-800-764-7419.
Royal Caribbean Cruises
Royal will occasionally offer military rates (not a discount) on select bookings throughout the year. The rate might only apply to specific cabins on select sailings.
There are times when the rate can be a very decent 40%, but you will need to do some research for times and ships. For the specifics, it would be best to call the cruise line at 1-866-562-7625 as the website does not offer the information.
MSC Cruises
MSC has offers for active and retired military personnel that are up to 10% off almost all sailings. A 5% discount is offered on interior and ocean-view cabins, while 10% is offered on balcony, suite and MSC Yacht Club staterooms.
On MSC, parents, parents-in-law and dependent children of active and retired military personnel also qualify for the discount. MSC’s Civil Service discount program offers police and firefighters discounts, too.
Contact the cruise line for specifics either online or at 1-833-241-5905.
Princess Cruises
While Princess does not offer a discount, they do offer up to $250 on board credit to active and veteran members of the U.S. and Canadian militaries. The credit can be used on any cruise at any time of the year, so that does make it convenient.
Princess gives out the credit in this manner: $50 for sailings of six days or less, $100 for siblings of 7 to 13 days and $250 for sailings two weeks in length or longer.
Contact the cruise line for specifics either online or at 1-800-774-6237.
Disney Cruise Line
Disney Cruise Lines offer military rates on select Disney cruises and are valid for new bookings only. This article will give you information on Disney rates: Disney Cruise Line Military Discounts
As this rate is offered on select cruises, it is best to call the cruise line for assistance with booking at 1-800-951-3532.
Paperwork Needed For Military Discounts
Whatever cruise line you decide to sail with, in order to receive your military discount or credit, you will need to provide the line with proper paperwork.
You will be asked to provide relevant documents that may include:
- Military or dependent ID
- Current LES (leave and earnings statement)
- Copy of retirement papers (Form DD214 or DD256)
- Proof of Honorable Discharge (Form DD214)
Depending on the cruise line, you may need to provide proof of military service at the time you book your cruise and again at check-in. Plan on carrying those relevant documents with you on embarkation day .
Final Thoughts
Cruising can be a relaxing vacation option for military members and their families, as it is a way to spend quality time together and a wonderful way to make memories that will last a lifetime.
A cruise takes care of all those everyday chores for you. You have your own lodgings, food is plentiful , varied and cooked for you. No dishes, no housekeeping, no outside distractions.
There is a variety of activities and entertainment onboard to keep you busy, or you can sit and soak up the sun on the deck. A cruise allows you to concentrate on yourself and your family and re-energize.

Disney has a well-established reputation for honoring those who serve our country and their loved ones. However, navigating the landscape of Disney’s military discounts can be challenging if you’re unsure where to start. Disney has special offers on park tickets, resort stays, and cruises. We’ll dig in to discover how Disney salutes our country’s dedicated service members — and, if you’re eligible, how to access these perks.
Military Discounts for Disney Theme Park Tickets
Walt Disney World’s Disney Military Salute Ticket and Disneyland’s Disney Military Promotional Park Hopper Ticket programs have been extended through 2024. These generously discounted programs have been renewed yearly since 2009, but every year, we wait on the edge of our seats to see if they will be renewed because they’re such a popular discount.
You need to meet specific criteria to be eligible. There are slight variations in each park’s requirements, so double-check the links we provide for specifics, but here’s the meat of it:
To qualify for the discounted ticket, you must meet at least 1 of these requirements:
- Active or retired U.S. military personnel , including active or retired members of the U.S. National Guard, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Military Reserves, and U.S. Department of Defense
- Honorably discharged veteran with 100% permanent and total (P&T) service-connected disability
- Active or retired Commissioned Corps of the Public Health Service (PHS) or Commissioned Corps of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
- A spouse of an eligible service member with an active and valid military ID
- Military personnel of foreign nations and their family members, when assigned or attached to a U.S. military unit or installation
- Widowed and non-remarried spouse of personnel who died while on active duty or while in retired status
- Non-remarried former spouse who was married to military personnel while on active duty for at least 20 years
These tickets are fairly flexible, though there are some requirements of which you’ll need to be aware:
- The eligible service member or their spouse must be present in the party on the day of activation
- The same person must use each ticket for the duration of the ticket
- Tickets are non-transferable
- The discount cannot be combined with any other offer
- There is a maximum of 6 passes per eligible service member or their spouse (but not both)
- Tickets must be purchased at a U.S. military base ticket office
This last requirement means each family can purchase a maximum of 6 passes at Walt Disney World and a further 6 passes at Disneyland Resort. The exception is if both spouses are on active duty or retired military who fall into the categories above.
If you have a larger immediate family, such as a spouse and 5 children, Disney will generally make an exception to allow all of you access to a discounted ticket.
One of the most exciting aspects of the discounted tickets, discount aside, is that they do not need to be used consecutively and don’t expire 14 days after first use like standard tickets do.
If you decide to go for a day trip in April but have always wanted to see the magic of Disney during the holidays, that’s completely doable. It’s like a mini-annual pass.
With the Disney Military Salute Ticket (also known as the Armed Forces Salute Ticket), you can save up to 40% on your visit to Walt Disney World, with your most significant savings occurring during the busiest times of the year. The discount is significant thanks to the tiered pricing that standard tickets incur based on demand. Disney Military Salute Tickets don’t have this issue; the ticket price is the same no matter when you visit.
Here’s an example of the price difference you can experience between tickets:
As you can see, there’s a huge difference in how much you’ll need to pay with the military ticket versus a regular ticket.
Disney credit cardholders get special park perks , such as discounts on dining and merchandise.
Where Can You Visit With Disney Military Salute Tickets?
There are 2 types of Disney Military Salute Tickets available to service members. The least expensive tickets still include park hopping abilities , which means you can visit multiple Walt Disney World theme parks on the same day.
The Disney Military Salute Ticket With Park Hopper Plus , meanwhile, also provides admission each day to one of the following attractions (based on the length of your ticket):
- Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon
- Disney’s Blizzard Beach
- ESPN World Wide Sports Complex
- Mini golf courses
Disney Military Salute Ticket Blackout Dates
The blackout dates for Disney Military Salute Tickets change each year. Here are the blackout dates for 2024:
- March 24, 2024, to April 6, 2024
- November 24, 2024, to November 30, 2024
Walt Disney World’s military tickets for 2024 expire on December 20, 2024 .
Disneyland also offers military discount tickets at significantly discounted prices. Here’s what you can expect to pay.
Unlike Walt Disney World, these tickets don’t have any blackout dates. However, you must use up all your days by December 13, 2024 , or the remainder will be forfeited.
For those who are unfamiliar, Genie+ is the paid version of Disneyland’s old FASTPASS system, which allows you to make ride reservations and skip the general queues.
If you aren’t active duty military, retired, or a 100% P&T disabled veteran, you won’t qualify for the Walt Disney World’s Disney Military Salute Ticket or Disneyland’s Disney Military Promotional Park Hopper Ticket. In that case, you may be entitled to a standard military discount ticket .
Unfortunately, the discount is not as steep, and, depending on when you’re going, may just shave a few dollars off the ticket price . Still, it’s better than nothing if you’re considering the regular military discount because you have a party larger than 6 of non-immediate family or friends.
Like the specialty Disney military tickets, you must purchase this ticket type in advance from your MRW office, other eligible base ticketing offices, or Shades of Green, the military-owned Walt Disney World hotel.
Disney offers theme park discounts for Disneyland and Walt Disney World, though the ticket price will depend on your military status.
Military Discounts at Disney Hotels
The Walt Disney World Resort has more than 25 hotels available for guests. As you can imagine, it’s a sprawling complex.
Those with the same eligibility requirements for Disney Military Salute Tickets can also score deals on Walt Disney World Resort hotel stays.
To book rooms at discounted rates, call 407-939-7830. Note that the longest period you’ll be able to stay is 14 nights. There are also restrictions on which room types and resorts are eligible for this offer.
Shades of Green
Although it is owned by the Department of Defense (DoD), Shades of Green is considered a Walt Disney World Resort hotel due to its location within the grounds. Not everyone is eligible to stay here, though thanks to the Disabled Veterans Equal Access Act of 2018, many more veterans are now allowed access.
Shades of Green is considered a moderate Disney hotel, but it’s an upgraded version. The rooms are larger than those in other moderate hotels, and the amenities resemble those of a Deluxe Resort.
If you’re eligible to stay here, Shades of Green may be the best value for your money. The price for the standard room, which can sleep up to 5 people, starts at $174 per night for E1 to E6 active military personnel — the price increases for other tiers, including officers and veterans.
Redeeming Marriott Bonvoy points for the Walt Disney World Swan or Walt Disney World Dolphin can save you even more on your stay. Check out our guide on how to visit Disney World for cheap by using points and miles .
Even without a dedicated military hotel like Shades of Green, Disneyland does offer military discounts on hotel and resort stays. To book this offer, call 833-618-0536 .
From what we can tell, because the inventory is constantly fluctuating, so are the prices. If you have the freedom of price and time of year, it’s best to call and ask what will give you the best value and try to base your trip around that.
For example, we checked out a 2-night stay at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa in mid-August. Standard rooms, which are the least expensive, were going for $683 per night before taxes.
However, when we called to ask for the military discount, we were quoted $614 per night . That’s a decent chunk of change, especially during the summer season.
Use your Disney ® Premier Visa ® Card or your Disney ® Visa ® Card to pay for your stay and get promotional 0% financing for 6 months !
We’d be remiss not to include discounts available for Disney Cruise Line ! Eligibility requirements are similar to those who qualify for the Disney Military Salute Ticket or Disneyland’s Disney Military Promotional Park Hopper Ticket, including active duty, retirees, and those who are 100% P&T disabled.
Only 50 rooms per cruise are available with the military discount, so they sell out quickly. Be sure to check frequently to see which cruises are being offered with a discount , and call 800-951-3532 to make reservations as soon as they are available .
Beyond this, you’re only entitled to 1 discounted room per sailing, so if you travel in a large group, you’ll want to consider the cost of a second room.
Although Disney Cruise Line sailings tend to be more expensive than other cruise lines, they’re also high-quality and a lot of fun. The military discount you can receive can also significantly drop the cost.
For example, you can book a 12-night cruise in a Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah for $9,744 with a military discount. That’s a lot, but who wouldn’t love to visit Norway and Iceland?
That same cruise for regular guests, however, is $14,242 .
That’s a savings of $4,498 or nearly 32%!
Disney is a world of its own. So many of us go there to escape the stressors of everyday life and immerse ourselves in the dreamlike wonder of being a kid again. What better gift to our military personnel than to make that magic accessible to those who need it most and their respective families?
From park tickets to hotel discounts and even special rates on cruises, Disney does service members proud by offering significant savings to those who are eligible.

How we identify last-minute cruise deals?
Our site uses the most advantaged cruise search technology available today to access all cruises offered by all cruise lines, search through all their fare codes and find the one with the best price.
Sometimes the lowest rate available from the cruise line will not be their military rate.
Rather, it will likely be their non-refundable fare codes, that come with rules and restrictions.
We are experts on:
*all cruise lines’ military rates;
*any discounts and benefits they offer to military and veterans;
*if those rates and benefits are combinable with another lower-priced fare code;
*and how to create the best combination of all options to maximize military and veteran discounts on a cruise.
We have experienced agents available every day of the week, by phone, email, chat, skype etc – to answer any questions you have.
So don’t hesitate to contact us !!
Every day we manually search for last-minute deals from Disney with the best Military Discounts.
FIND THEM ALL HERE! This page is updated daily.
Here’s a list of Today’s HOT DEALS!
These are cruises we’ve selected specifically because they are a particularly good deal, for a variety of reasons., they are not the cheapest cruises. rather, they are unique and the price may have just dropped., when are the best cruise deals available , are there certain cruises that always have bigger discounts for military and veterans yes.
The best months to find last-minute cruise deals would be the shoulder-season months of April, May, September, October and November – excluding any holiday weeks or weekends during those months.
There are almost never any last-minute deals available on summer-time or holiday cruises. The best last-minute cruise deals for military and veterans will always be in the off-season times, of course.
If you can cruise during those off-season times, you will really get the best possible last-minute deal.
Is it necessary to book last-minute in order to get the best cruise deals and discounts for military and veterans?
Booking last-minute is not necessary to get the best deal when you book with Military Cruise Deals.
That’s because if you see a lower rate offered by the cruise line prior to your final payment date, let us know and we will get that new lower rate applied for you!
The only caveat to that is that the cruise lines will not allow us to do the refare after the time of your final payment. And that is usually 75-90 days prior to the cruise. So if the price comes down after that time, we cannot get you the new lower rate.
Last-minute deals on cruises are unusual, as lately, most cruises are selling out way in advance, so prices on cruises often go up as it gets closer to their departure date.
Are there special discounts just for military and veteran seniors? Yes!
Click here to see how to indicate senior and veteran (military) status on our site, and thus get both discounts applied, if applicable.
Most cruise lines only allow you to book a maximum of four people in a cabin. If you have more people traveling, you will most likely need multiple cabins. The way to use our website would be to enter the number of people you would like to have in your first cabin ONLY to check rates and availability. You can continue the process on our website to book your first cabin and then start again to book your next cabin. Or email us at [email protected] to assist you further.
