For First Time Solo Travellers
Or less-experienced travellers in general, making decisions when trying to plan for the ultimate travel adventure can be incredibly daunting. How to get from one place to another, how to see everything you want to see in a certain amount of time. The list goes on. The good news is that going on a tour can make those decisions a whole lot easier and take the stress out of the equation.
I think tours are a really great way to ease into stepping out of your comfort zone. Why? Because everyone you are doing it with is in the exact same boat. A tour is essentially an organised trip that is guided and, honestly, who doesn’t enjoy a bit of organised fun?
Dispelling Myths About Tours
Group tours can sometimes get a bad wrap, particularly from adventurous souls who prefer to go their own way at their own pace, in search of a road less travelled by. But many don’t know that opting for a tour doesn’t mean you have to compromise on adventure, independence or more low-key destinations.
There exists the assumption that tours can be too large and impersonal, over-guided, and subject to a strict itinerary. While this may still be the case for some, this structure has changed dramatically in recent times. Most group tour operators these days now focus on offering flexibility, variety and smaller, more intimate tours.
It’s also important to note that group tours are not one size fits all. The number of types of tours are endless. But I can guarantee that you are bound to find one that suits your travel style and expectations and allows you to meet like-minded people.
Some tours choose to just scratch the surface and cover as many key tourist sights as possible. Others may choose a slower and more authentic approach that focuses more on educating travellers on the destination, culture and environment.
From sightseeing tours, to eco-tours, to adventure tours, there’s a myriad of options out there that are worth exploring!
The Value of a Guide
One of the biggest benefits of choosing a tour is the guide.
Tour companies will often employ local people, meaning guides often have first-hand experience living in and exploring the destination. This comes hand in hand with extensive knowledge of the area, along with its culture and history. Because of this, the experience is made ten times more authentic and personal, because you are being shown the destination through the eyes of an insider.
Local guides also have the hot tips: the hidden gems, the cutest locally-owned shops where you can buy gifts for your friends back home, and which cafe to get the best oat milk flat white from (if you don’t know what that is, you’re in for a treat).
A good tour guide is engaging, passionate and knows how to tell a story.
Having a guide show you around should feel like wandering around town with a mate. Exploring little streets and quirky stores, doing a bit of window shopping along the way, trading stories and anecdotes, popping into a bakery for a treat, taking some photos for the gram and finishing the day off with a nice cold beer and a burger at the pub on the corner. Throw some valuable insight and knowledge about the destination and culture into the mix, and you’ve basically got yourself a guided tour. Who would have thought?
Meet Like Minded People
Let’s not forget that travelling is all about meeting new people and sharing experiences with them.
So, what better way to do that than throw yourself into the deep end right from the start and spend days (or weeks) eating, drinking, sleeping and exploring with your own little travel crew?
There’s something really special about discovering new places with new people who are like minded and share the same passion for travel. It really does make the whole experience so much more enriching and memorable.
Take it from someone who works for a tour company and sees it every week. Travellers start the week off as complete strangers, all from different walks of life, bringing their own experiences and stories to the table, and over the course of the week they become such a tight-knit family that by the end, they don’t want to part ways.
You never know what could happen. Whether it’s finding the perfect summer fling to get you over your breakup or meeting friends for life that you will go on to travel with for years. The possibilities are endless!
The sense of community that comes hand in hand with people choosing to go on an adventure together is pretty heartwarming and in my opinion, is what travelling is all about.
Avoid Logistical Nightmares
Sometimes, it’s best just to leave it to the experts to take care of the logistics.
Don’t want to be blind sighted by national park fees that you were unaware of? How about left desperately searching for the nearest gas station? Or having to deal with a bus or accommodation booking gone wrong when you’ve had approximately 2 hours of sleep and a ton of tequila?
If you opt for a tour, not only does it often make more sense financially, but EVERYTHING is organised and taken care of for you. This means that you have more time to just be, enjoy and take it all in without worrying about where to be, how to get there or what to do.
To put this into perspective, let’s take Fraser Island as an example. Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world, and a must-do destination on the East Coast of Australia.
No roads means the only way to get around is by driving around the island, on the sand, in a 4×4. Yes, it’s exactly as cool as it seems.
Doing a guided tour is HIGHLY recommended because not only is the island HUGE and remote, it’s also dangerous if you don’t understand the tides. As in, you could end up in the ocean if you miscalculate when high tide is.
On top of this, wouldn’t you just rather have all of the boring stuff (food, camping gear, transport) already sorted for you so you can spend your energy on frolicking in the pristine freshwater lakes, cruising down lazy rivers, driving like a rockstar on the beach and drinking beers by the fire?
So How Do I Find The Right Tour For Me?
You do want to make sure that you pick a tour that’s designed for travellers like you, has the vibe you’re looking for and has good reviews so make sure you do your research!
Watch some YouTube videos/travel vlogs and read some blog posts by people who have done the tour or by the company itself. These can really help give some insight into what to expect, what the company is like and if it’s for you. Word-of-mouth recommendations are usually quite reliable!
Go on the company website and even reach out to them . We all understand that this is a difficult decision to make, so we’re more than happy to answer your questions or paint a better picture for you. At the end of the day, we just want you to have an unreal and unforgettable experience, because a good tour is one you will never forget.

A spoke broke and I had to swap bikes with Tony (Gallopin). Then I had to chase and that effort was fatal, it's never good to lose time. There are a lot of twists on the Tour and this time luck was not on our side.

I am pleased that the (European Tour ) tour nament committee agreed to the change of wild card numbers, i have spoken to a number of people regarding the ninth player automatically qualifying for the team and in my experience, a player is more comfortable when he has qualified, hence my reasoning behind this change.

Zwift Is Sticking with the TdF Femmes—and the Future of Women’s Cycling Is in Good Hands
Starting in Brittany with nine stages in 2025, Zwift’s extended sponsorship will bring fresh opportunities and excitement to the Tour de France Femmes.
The resurgence of women’s sports is rewriting the narrative of equality and visibility, with athletes, brands, and fans pushing for greater recognition and support. In cycling, the Tour de France Femmes (TdFF) stands as a powerful symbol of this movement, driven forward by sponsors like Zwift , who are committed to transforming the future of the sport.
The virtual cycling platform has recently announced that it will extend its title sponsorship of the revamped race. Since the beginning of its partnership in 2022, Zwift has been the title sponsor and the driving force behind the TdFF.
The platform’s financial support and four-year commitment have gotten the Tour de France Femmes off the ground fast. Because of Zwift, the race has had significant stability, which is exactly what it needed in its initial years. Past versions of the women’s race, namely in the 1980s, dealt with financial difficulties, limited media coverage, sexism, and trademark issues.
Those challenges still exist today, but Zwift is doing its part to help ensure that the new era of the women’s race will endure. Financial support for women’s cycling is a crucial part of growing the sport.
The galvanizing effect that the TdFFaZ has on the entire cycling ecosystem is more than evident. The future is femmes.
Kate Veronneau , Director of Women’s Strategy at Zwift, answered some questions for Bicycling about the sponsorship’s continuation.
Bicycling: How did Zwift decide to continue investing in the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift?
Kate Veronneau: This race has been an exceptional opportunity in many ways. It’s no surprise that we want to extend our commitment. As title sponsor, we get to be the spark that started the fire, blazing a bright path for the future of the sport. But as a cycling platform with a global community, we get to continue to stoke the flames with our Watch the Femmes campaign year-round. It’s a proud brand moment that is also key to unlocking growth in our business.
How does the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift benefit everyone interested in cycling?
This race shows ample space in the sport for fresh talent, new excitement, and inspiring stories. It’s not just about opening new doors for riders and fans; it’s also about uplifting all the women involved in and around cycling, which is essential for the sport’s growth. Women have been underrepresented in cycling for too long, and increasing the number of women working in the industry is key to shaping its future and expanding its audience.
Why is Zwift the perfect partner for the Femmes?
With programs like Zwift Academy, we have a long track record of using our platform to create opportunities and do things differently in the cycling world. The title race sponsorship is the ideal extension of that mission to grow the sport and champion parity. We also show up as the biggest fans, bringing our vibrant colors and giant Scotty the Squirrel mascot to the race, infusing the race with our unique energy of ‘fun powers performance’. We’re clearly enjoying it.
Is there anything Zwift is especially excited about for next year’s Tour?
Everything! After this year’s edition, the sky’s the limit! Stay tuned for the 2025 route announcement on Oct 29th!
How Zwift Is Paving the Way for the Future of Women’s Cycling
Cassondra Spring , Brand Manager for Liv Global, told Bicycling , “I’m thrilled to see Zwift extend their Tour de France Femmes sponsorship. We at Liv Cycling believe in the tremendous growth and opportunity this investment provides.
“This year, along the course, we witnessed an incredible turnout from the Grand Départ in Rotterdam and throughout the eight stages. The excitement and engagement were palpable, and the galvanizing effect that the TdFFaZ is having on the entire ecosystem of cycling is more than evident. This is further proof that the future is femmes.”
Beth Duryea , Marketing and Communications Manager for CANYON//SRAM Racing, told Bicycling , “Zwift extending its naming partnership with the Tour de France Femmes is a win for the sport. Zwift has shown its strong commitment to women’s cycling from the beginning, with projects such as the Women’s Zwift Academy with our team CANYON//SRAM Racing already in 2016.
“Since then, Zwift has continued to commit to elevating and increasing visibility for women’s cycling. Zwift took its experience, passion, and values into being a Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift naming partner and continues to advocate for women’s cycling and, in this case, aimed at the A.S.O. We’ve all seen how rapidly the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift has progressed. We can expect even more exciting opportunities and growth opportunities in the sport.”
In June 2024, the Tour de France Femmes announced that the 2025 edition of the race would depart from Brittany in northwest France. Also, for the first time, the race will include nine stages, the longest edition in modern history. The race gains even more credibility, prestige, and excitement each year. And after this year’s final stage , we already can’t wait for next year’s race.

Jon Rahm is leaving the PGA Tour for LIV Golf. What it means for both sides
Jon rahm is the biggest name yet to bolt to saudi-funded liv golf, by doug ferguson | the associated press • published december 8, 2023.
Jon Rahm has been saying that he plays golf for history and for legacy, not for money. And now he's playing for the Saudi-funded LIV Golf League in a shocking departure from the PG A Tour.
A week of speculation on social media ended with Rahm in a jacket — not the green jacket he won at the Master this year but a black letterman's jacket with LIV Golf across the front — as he discussed reasons for bolting during an appearance on Fox News.

“I think the innovation and the vision of LIV Golf is what pushed me over to at least give it a chance and hear the pitch,” Rahm said in an interview with LIV broadcaster David Feherty. “Ultimately, it ended up being what I wanted to hear.”
How much? Rahm wasn't sharing details, but it's a lot. Various reports put it in the neighborhood of $500 million, which includes equity in his new team. Consider the entire prize fund on the PGA Tour in 2023 was about $460 million.

This creates as many questions as answers, from who Rahm brings with him to how it affects the PGA Tour's negotiations with Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund on a commercial deal.
How important is this to LIV Golf?
Rahm is the Masters champion, currently No. 3 in the world and has 20 victories in his seven full years as a pro. He is the biggest catch for LIV since it began in 2022.

One of the knocks on LIV was that so many of its big names were in the twilights of their careers. Rahm is just coming into his prime, and seven of the last 14 major championship winners now are with LIV — Rahm, Brooks Koepka, Cameron Smith, Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau.
LIV players have won at least one major every year since 2015. Rahm gives the roster a major boost, and with a new team, that creates openings for more players to defect.
Rahm, Koepka and Rory McIlroy were the first players to denounce the idea of a Saudi-funded rival league even before LIV Golf was established. Since then, Rahm has spoken about his loyalty to the PGA Tour, how money doesn't motivate him and as recently as August, he said he “laughs” when he hears rumors about him going to LIV.
Look back to June 6, when the PGA Tour went from battling LIV Golf to a shocking announcement of its private deal to partner with the Public Investment Fund, the financial backers of LIV Golf. Rahm said a week later, “I think the general feeling is that a lot of people feel a bit of betrayal from management.”
If the PGA Tour was willing to do business with the Saudis, it raises a natural question: Is there any problem with a PGA Tour star joining them?
“Obviously, the past two years there’s been a lot of evolving on the game of golf, things have changed a lot and so have I," he said.
Rahm is certain to lose fans over this, as have most marquee players who have gone to LIV. He said he has heard negativity before and it's part of the business.
Wasn’t there an agreement to not recruit players?
There was, but not for long. The framework agreement had a non-solicitation clause in which all sides agreed not to poach players. Just over a month later, they rescinded that clause on a request from the Justice Department over antitrust concerns.
That didn't seem to be a problem for the tour back then.
The tour said in July, "While we believe the language is lawful, we also consider it unnecessary in the spirit of cooperation and because all parties are negotiating in good faith.”
That no longer would seem to be the case.
What does this mean for the PGA Tour?
For starters, the PGA Tour has lost more market shares — in the case of Rahm, a big one.
It also can't help the tour in its the race to reach a final agreement on the commercial deal with PIF and the European tour. PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan had said he would be meeting this week with Yasir Al-Rumayyan, the PIF governor. That meeting had been pushed back to next week, and its status was uncertain.
The tour has said it was narrowing down the list of U.S.-based private equity firms that wanted in on the deal. If PIF saw that as the PGA Tour having leverage, now the Saudis have big leverage in being able to snag one of golf's biggest stars.
One player who might benefit from this is Mackenzie Hughes. He finished 51st in the FedEx Cup. With Rahm not having PGA Tour membership next year, the tour is likely to remove him from the list, that would bump Hughes to No. 50 and make him eligible for the $20 million signature events in 2024. It also would move Carl Yuan to No. 125 to keep a full tour card.
What does this mean for Jon Rahm?
He's a lot richer. His career earnings on the PGA Tour were at $51.5 million and he'll be getting somewhere around 10 times that much (the length of the LIV deal was not disclosed).
As Masters champion, he can play for life. He has a 10-year exemption to the U.S. Open as a champion (through 2031), and he has five-year exemptions to the PGA Championship and the British Open.
Still to be determined is the Ryder Cup. The European tour is in charge of its team, and no European from LIV was on the team this year that won in Rome. McIlroy said in a Sky Sports interview that Europe would need to change the rules to get Rahm on the team for 2025.
There's also the possibility of Rahm keeping his European tour membership and paying fines for the tournaments he plays in LIV Golf. He can probably afford it.

How to reserve parking in advance of the Eras Tour in Indianapolis — and how much it costs
Although there are more than 73,000 parking spots in downtown Indianapolis, we suspect there will still be fewer parking spots than Taylor Swift fans when the icon visits for her three-night stop at Lucas Oil Stadium in early November.
Not to worry, however, if you among the fortunate who snagged a ticket or if you plan to head downtown that weekend just to soak up the Swift-mosphere: There are a number of ways you can reserve parking in advance for the nights of the concerts, so you can shake off those jitters and enjoy the evening.
Here are a few ways you can reserve parking in advance in downtown Indianapolis. Visit downtownindy.org/explore/parking for a more comprehensive list of parking garages in the downtown area.
ParkWhiz is a convenient option to search for parking options across the city. As of early September, there were spots for as low as $40 in the area immediately surrounding the stadium, with the closest spots topping $200. To view available parking locations and see current pricing, visit parkwhiz.com/lucas-oil-stadium-parking .
Didn't score Eras Tour tickets? Here are some other Taylor Swift-themed events to check out
In most cases, rather than traditional parking meters, Indianapolis uses zone parking and centralized meters along sidewalks. You can use the ParkMobile app (available on Google Play and the Apple App Store ) to enter your zone code and pay for your parking meter. You can also use it to reserve parking in advance of large events.
As of early September, spots were still available to be reserved at 200 N. Illinois St. for $67.20. These spots allow for parking between 5 p.m. and midnight on show days, and the garage is less than a mile from the stadium.
If you want to wait until the day of the concert, you can also use the app to find available spaces and add time to your meter remotely.
Similar to ParkWhiz and ParkMobile, SpotHero allows you to scope out parking opportunities across the city. And, like the other sites, parking closest to the stadium those nights will cost more — as of early September, spots near Lucas Oil Stadium were mostly between $75 and $100. To search for spots, visit spothero.com/destination/indianapolis/lucas-oil-stadium-parking .
Denison parking garages
You can reserve spots in a number of Denison Parking facilities in advance, with prices ranging from $31 (furthest from stadium) to $86 (closest to stadium). For more information about the garages and current pricing, visit bit.ly/47eeZxo .

Queen Mary and King Frederik's next overseas trip revealed as they continue their accession tour
By Karishma Sarkari | 11 hours ago
King Frederik of Denmark and his Australian-born wife, Queen Mary , will continue their accession tour next month, the Danish royal household revealed.
The couple, who took the throne in January after Queen Margrethe's shock abdication in her New Year's address to the nation, visited Sweden and Norway earlier this year as the first stops.
Now they'll make their way to Germany for two days of engagements on October 21 and 22.

"In continuation of early summer's state visit to Sweden and Norway, the King and Queen continue the trip to Denmark's neighbouring countries in October," the press release translated, said.
"Denmark and Germany are closely linked through a strong co-operation across the border, both when it comes to trade, green transition and security policy."
The couple will head to the German capital, Berlin, as well as make a visit to the town Schleswig-Holstein, which is a border town in the north shared by both countries.
The pair will be welcomed to Berlin by the Federal President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and his wife Elke Büdenbender.

During the visit, Mary and Frederik will also join together with members from the Swedish and Norwegian royal households for the 25th anniversary of the Nordic embassy complex in the German capital.
There will also be a formal dinner hosted in the royal couple's honour by the president at Bellevue Palace.
But it won't be the Aussie-born royal's first visit to Germany since becoming Queen.
The country was actually her first overseas trip since the succession to the throne on January 14.

It was a pre-planned solo visit to Cologne at the end of January to support the Danish team in the European Men's Handball Championship finals, handing out medals after the game.
Queen Mary and King Frederik also visited Germany as newlyweds, in 2004.
They were last there together in Germany in March 2017 when they attended the funeral of Frederik's uncle, Princess Benedikte's husband Prince Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg.

These LIV Golf players are being relegated, including a former Masters champion
The 2024 LIV Golf regular season is in the books , and that means it's relegation time for those golfers at the bottom of the standings.
Those in the Drop Zone, which is Nos. 49 and below in LIV Golf’s individual standings, will be relegated from the league and will head to the 2024 LIV Golf Promotions tournament to try to play their way back into a roster spot. Another avenue is through the International Series, an order of merit based on 10 Asian Tour designated events. John Catlin paces that list.
Earlier this week, LIV Golf clarified its relegation rules, meaning no player ranked 49th or worse after LIV Golf Chicago will be able to guarantee their spot on the 2025 roster. Previously, captains were exempt from relegation.
And one of those captain, a former major champion, finished in the drop zone and will thus be relegated. Additionally, Laurie Canter finished in the Drop Zone, but he only played in the first two events of the season as a reserve player.
Here are the LIV Golf players who are being relegated after the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Kalle Samooja
Samooja finished bogey-par-bogey to fall to 49th and into the Drop Zone. He spent most of the final round above the cut line.
Scott Vincent
Vincent recorded only two top-20 finishes this season.
Branden Grace
Grace is one of the surprises to see on this list. But this year, he had only two top-20 finishes, which is as many as he had in the 50s.
Bubba Watson
The two-time Masters winner is being relegated thanks to a late rule change saying captain can, in fact, be relegated. What's next for Watson, we'll have to wait and see. He can be a non-playing captain of the RangeGoats if he chooses.
Kieran Vincent
The Vincent brothers both are being relegated. In Chicago, Kieran finished T-23, which was his second-best finish of the year.

Justin Rose: BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth would be ‘bucket-list’ win
Justin Rose is hoping to qualify for Team Europe and compete at a seventh Ryder Cup in 2025: "It's a monumental goal because it would mean that so many other layers have gone well": watch the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, live on Sky Sports from 8.30am, Thursday

Justin Rose is eyeing a strong finish to the 2024 season, starting with a "bucket-list" win at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth this week, live on Sky Sports .
Rose describes his form this year as "mixed", but had particularly impressive showings at two of the four majors, including a tied-second finish at The Open at Royal Troon.
The former world No 1 had a share of the lead down the back nine on the final day, before Xander Schauffele streaked clear with a run of four birdies in six holes.

"The PGA Championship, I was in the hunt on the back nine there too.

"It will be nice to have a good strong end to the season as I'm already thinking about the beginning of next year and my run-in to Augusta," Rose said. "That's how I like to see things.
"But there's some big events along the way. The BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth is a real bucket-list event for me. I haven't won there before but I've been close.
"It's a home event and so that would be huge. I've got my mind very much on that.
"I still think I can go on and achieve some really great things."
Qualification for 2025 Ryder Cup a 'monumental goal'
One of the things that Rose is very much hoping to achieve is qualification for the 2025 Ryder Cup, to represent Team Europe for a seventh time at the age of 45 - describing it as a "monumental goal".
Rose's experience came to good use when guiding rookie Robert MacIntyre to 1.5 points in their two fourballs matches as Europe successfully regained the Ryder Cup in Rome.
And he now hopes to be part of the first European side to win on US soil since 2012 and the 'Miracle in Medinah', which he was part of.
"It's still probably my biggest goal and biggest aspiration to make that team," Rose said.
"It's a monumental goal because it would mean that so many other layers have gone well.
"Obviously I would be 45. It's still very doable and very possible but at the last Ryder Cup I was already the oldest player by six years on either team.
"It made you realise that I'm definitely stepping into a slightly different territory in my career here. But there's time to be vice-captain and who knows after that.
"I feel like the most important thing is that if you half a chance of playing, you have got to take it with both hands and give it all you've got."
