Cruise Parking in Venice – Where to park?

Parking options.

In the past, some cruise lines offered secure parking near cruise terminals, but this option is no longer available. However, these parking lots are still available, although the companies can no longer include them in their offers.

To minimize parking costs, consider parking your vehicle in car parks located outside Venice but covered if possible. Many of these car parks offer shuttle services to the cruise terminals, which is very convenient.

One such parking lot is the “Venezia Terminal Passeggeri Parking,” located near Terminals 108, 117, 118. You can park your vehicle there, check in nearby, and then be transported to your ship by boat or bus, at the company’s expense. It’s an easy and affordable way to start your dream cruise.

However, please note that  this parking is not covered  . If you prefer an option that offers more peace of mind, you can opt for the Autorimessa Comunale Venezia AVM – Porto di Venezia parking lot.

Cruises from Venice – A major change

Previously, it was possible to depart on a cruise directly from Venice. However, from August 2021, cruise ships had to leave the Venetian Lagoon.

Cruise ship restrictions

Ships over 180 metres long with emissions containing more than 0.1% sulphur were no longer allowed to enter the basin, the St Mark’s Canal and the Giudecca Canal.

Now these cruises depart from the new industrial port of Venice Marghera, located on the neighboring island.

Book in advance.

Whether you prefer parking near the port or outside Venice, it is always a good idea to book your space in advance. This not only guarantees your spot, but also gives you the chance to benefit from discounted rates by booking online.

Arrive early

One and a half million passengers cast off on a cruise from the Port of Venice every year, making it one of the most important ports for the industry in the entire Mediterranean. But given the conformation of Venice and this huge affluence of people, not only departing, but also arriving intent on spending a few days as tourists, finding a place to leave one’s car becomes a nightmare. Parclick, however, lets you find your parking space to leave Venice on a cruise, and you can save money by early booking, so that you don’t feel lost when you arrive in Venice, and can park immediately without any pointless waits. If you want to park easily before setting off on a cruise, Parclick gives you numerous solutions. Formerly Costa Venezia, Carnival Venezia debuted in June 2023. As its name suggests, the ship is themed around Venice, Italy , from its design to its dining venues.

With a motto of "Fun Italian Style," the ship's main atrium mimics Venice's St. Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco) . The Italian concept continues with about a dozen restaurants, including the upscale Il Viaggio; Tomodoro, serving Mexican-Italian fusion; and a main dining room with a gondola in the center. Bars like Amari and Frizzante follow suit, serving cocktails and spritzes with Italian liqueurs and bitters. Still, the ship also features familiar Carnival Cruise Line staples, like a steakhouse and a teppanyaki venue.

Carnival Venezia promises fun for the whole family, with kids camps for ages 2 to 11 and clubs for teens; a water park; and areas for pickleball, basketball and miniature golf. Nightly entertainment includes a comedy club, a piano bar and live shows.

Cabins are decked out in Italian grandeur, with Baroque patterns in the wallpaper and gold fixtures. Interior staterooms start at 150 square feet, while the largest room option (Terrazza Premium Vista Balcony) stretches to 482 square feet and includes access to Terrazza Carnevale – a private lounge area and sun deck.

Carnival Venezia holds 4,090 guests and 1,424 crew members. The ship sails from New York City to Caribbean destinations like the Bahamas , Turks & Caicos and St. Lucia . Select cruises from New York also call on Canadian ports like Halifax, Nova Scotia , and Saint John, New Brunswick . In the future, Venezia will also sail from Port Canaveral near Orlando, Florida .

High school sports | newbury park football starts fast, cruises past pacifica, quarterback brady smigiel accounts for four touchdowns in victory.

Smigiel completed 12 of 23 passes in the game for 170 yards with three touchdowns passes and also the early touchdown run. The Newbury Park defense was also relentless throughout the game, sacking Pacifica quarterback Dominic Duran five times and also forcing four turnovers. Linebacker Balen Betancourt led the way for the Panthers defense with three sacks in the contest.

“We played well. I think the difference between how we were last year and we are this year is we’re taking more of what the defense is giving us,” Newbury Park coach Joe Smigiel said. “They were playing a lot of two-man and dropping eight, so I thought we did a nice job of running the football and completing short passes.”

Smigiel’s favorite receiver in the game was Shane Rosenthal. Rosenthal finished with five catches for 116 yards and two touchdowns. He also had an interception in the third quarter on defense which was his fourth interception already in three games this season.

Smigiel’s other touchdown pass in the game went to Alberto Ayon, who like Rosenthal, also had an interception on defense. Three of Smigiel’s four touchdowns came in the first half to help give Newbury a 30-3 halftime lead.

“It feels good to get the win, I thought my guys did a really good job out there,” Brady Smigiel said. “I feel like I’ve been doing a better job this year not trying to be Superman and not trying to take over the game because I know have guys around me and a really good offensive line this year.”

On defense, Newbury Park also got sacks from Michael Guzman and Carter Taylor and Cole Mills had the third interception for Newbury Park.

Newbury Park’s offense also did a nice job running the ball with Pacifica dropping eight guys on several plays to worry about the passing threat. The Panthers had 197 total rushing yards in the game and also scored on a 1-yard touchdown run from Kayin Booker in the first half.

Newbury running back Tyler Stromsoe ran the ball 17 times for 78 yards and Ryder Sheehan ran the ball six times for 32 yards. Smigiel also added four carries for 76 yards including the 65-yard touchdown run early in the game. Bohdie Ing also connected on a 31-yard field goal for Newbury in the game.

Newbury Park will look to improve to 4-0 next week when they host St. Pius X-St. Matthias.

Whether you’re looking for a quick and cheap getaway or a week at the beach, here are the best Bahamas cruise itineraries to start your search, in order from shortest to longest.

2-night cruises on Margaritaville at Sea Paradise from Palm Beach, Florida

Though cruising is relatively new to the Margaritaville travel and hospitality franchise, cruise line Margaritaville at Sea is essentially a rebranding of the old Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line. Its refurbished ship, Paradise, originally debuted in the 1990s for Costa Cruises.

One Jimmy Buffett-themed makeover later, the ship is a perfect fit for the laid-back vibe of the Bahamas. Grab a drink or a bite to eat from the 5 o’Clock Somewhere Bar & Grill, try your luck at the Par-A-Dice Casino and enjoy plenty of entertainment, including the musical production, “Tales from Margaritaville: Jimmy’s Ship Show.” There’s a kids club, a teen club, a spa and two pools stocked with beach balls and inflatable parrots.

The two-night cruise itinerary includes one day in Freeport, where you can shop, hit the casino, enjoy water sports or chill on the beach. The ship offers shore excursions, or you can explore independently. Margaritaville at Sea also offers cruise-and-stay itineraries of either four or six nights (including the two nights onboard the ship). These packages let you choose between two partner hotels in Freeport, where you’ll stay two or four nights on land, then hop back on the ship for your return night at sea.

Margaritaville at Sea Paradise carries around 1,300 passengers in an assortment of inside and ocean-view cabins, all around 176 square feet, which is larger than the average for those categories on most mainstream ships. Ten suites with balconies are also available, with 524 square feet of space.

Who should go? Obviously, Parrotheads are gonna want to try this ship, with all its Jimmy Buffett-inspired themes and decor, but it’s also a good trial run for anyone on the fence about cruising. Pricing makes this a great cruise to enjoy an escape without spending a fortune. We found weekday sailings that begin at $99 per person based on double occupancy for an inside cabin.

3- or 4-night cruises on Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas from Miami

This itinerary may be the best overall short Bahamas cruise. Both the three- and four-night cruises have stops at Nassau and Royal Caribbean ‘s massive private island — Perfect Day at CocoCay . Those two stops combined give cruisers the opportunity to enjoy water sports, spend some time at the beach and experience a bit of Bahamian culture.

Freedom of the Seas has plenty of onboard fun to occupy travelers of all ages on sea days. It’s loaded with top-deck slides and water features, specialty restaurant choices and more entertainment options than you can take in on a short cruise. Carrying around 4,000 cruise guests, Freedom of the Seas is big enough to impress without being overwhelming.

Plus, logistics for cruising out of Miami are simple enough for even first-time cruisers. From flight choices to pre- or post-cruise hotels, it’s a city that caters to tourists, especially the cruising ones.

Who should go? From first-timers to veteran cruisers, anyone looking for a short but fun-filled hop to the Bahamas should give Freedom of the Seas a look. Families looking for a quick escape will find entertainment and activities for toddlers to teens. The ship is also ideal for family reunions, bachelorette parties and birthday cruises. Couples will love the adults-only Solarium with its extra-large hot tubs looking out over the sea.

3- or 4-night cruises on Royal Caribbean’s Utopia of the Seas from Port Canaveral, Florida

When Royal Caribbean’ s giant Utopia of the Seas debuts in July 2024, it will offer a bevy of short sailings, including three- and four-night sailings from Port Canaveral, Florida. The 236,860-ton, 5,669-passenger vessel will be the second-largest cruise ship in the world and offer more exciting amenities than any other cruise ship sailing short itineraries in North America.

Why? The newest, biggest ships in the world typically sail longer cruises. Offering short cruises on its humongous Oasis Class ships is new for Royal Caribbean; sister ship Allure of the Seas will test out the concept before Utopia launches.

Families with kids will definitely go bananas over the choices on board the new ship. The top deck alone will feature three separate pool areas, a surfing simulator, a kiddie splash zone, a basketball court, two rock walls, a miniature golf course and even a zip line.

The ship will also boast an extensive selection of restaurants, bars, lounges and shops. Additionally, there will be an indoor skating rink, a spa and a showroom with Broadway-style shows.

Utopia of the Seas’ inaugural voyage is set for July 22, 2024, and will be a four-night cruise to Nassau and the line’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay. The second sailing will be a three-night cruise to the Bahamas that departs on July 26, 2024.

Who should go?  Short sailings on this new ship will appeal to all sorts of cruisers. Historically, new ships are reserved for longer itineraries, so this is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a snack-size sampling of a brand-new ship without spending the money on a longer sailing.

Families craving a quick getaway where the entire brood is satisfied will not be disappointed. In addition to seemingly endless kid-friendly amenities and top-notch children’s programming, Utopia of the Seas will feature a casino and adults-only spaces.

3- or 4-night cruises on Disney Wish from Port Canaveral, Florida

Disney waited a decade to build its next new ship, but Disney dreamers had their wish granted in 2022. Even better, the new Disney Wish cruises to the Bahamas. Designed to be the perfect complement to a visit to Orlando’s Disney theme parks, these short cruises visit Nassau and Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay. The four-night itinerary adds a sea day to enjoy the ship.

Disney Wish is designed to immerse cruisers in the various Disney worlds through technology. An onboard augmented reality game turns the Disney Cruise Line Navigator smartphone app into a virtual spyglass that lets cruisers participate in a fantasy adventure with Disney and Pixar characters. The AquaMouse waterslide combines a splashy tube ride in a two-seater raft with a pre-adventure tale told through screens at the beginning of the ride. Diners at the Worlds of Marvel restaurant take part in an interactive Avengers-themed experience through videos and special effects.

Wish carries 4,000 passengers in cabins and suites designed to simplify cruising with kids. But never fear, adult Disney fans; you’ll also find your spot on board. From the “Star Wars”-themed Hyperspace Lounge to the Quiet Cove adults-only sun deck, Disney manages to cater to grownups as well as kids.

Who should go ? This is obviously the best Bahamas cruise for lovers of all things Disney, including “Star Wars” and Marvel fans.

3- or 4-night cruises on Celebrity Reflection from Fort Lauderdale

Beginning in April 2024, Celebrity Cruises will sail three- and four-night voyages round-trip from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, year-round.

The 3,046-passenger Celebrity Reflection will offer a consistent rotation of three-night weekend cruises (departing each Friday and returning each Monday morning) and four-night weekday sailings (departing each Monday and returning each Friday morning).

Itineraries will include stops at Key West in Florida and Nassau and Bimini in the Bahamas.

Celebrity appeals mostly to the 40-plus set sans small children. It’s light on the kid-centric attractions (such as waterslides, go-karts and laser tag) that other big-ship lines include. The line offers instead lots of quiet and relaxing pool and lounge areas. (If you do have kids in tow, you can take advantage of the extensive children’s program, Camp at Sea. It provides supervised activities daily for children ages 3-12 in dedicated spaces.)

Celebrity Reflection is the line’s last and largest Solstice Class cruise ship. The Solstice C lass ships feature some of the most stylish outdoor pool decks at sea, with indoor, adults-only pool areas that, notably, are topped with glass panels embedded with solar panels that contribute to the ship’s power grid. You’ll also find large spas, casinos, showrooms and a nice selection of restaurants on board.

This ship also boasts one of the most spectacular suites in the cruising world — the 1,646-square-foot Reflection Suite. It was the first two-bedroom suite on a Celebrity Cruises vessel.

Who should go? This an ideal cruise for older travelers who are new to cruising and want to sample one or frequent cruisers who might prefer a shorter time at sea. Although Celebrity doesn’t draw many families with young children, the shorter Bahamas itineraries are also perfect for multigenerational family groups seeking an affordable cruise that appeals to all ages.

4-night cruises on Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady from Miami

Virgin Voyages aimed to be a disrupter in the cruise market from the beginning — creating a product designed to please even those who claim they would never set foot on a cruise ship. Yet the itinerary for this four-night Bahamas cruise on Scarlet Lady is fairly ordinary. Ports of call include Key West and a private beach club on the Bahamian island of Bimini.

It’s the ship itself that sets this cruise apart from the pack. You’ll find unique cabins (with balcony hammocks), brash red livery and one-of-a-kind onboard activities, such as tattoo parlors, drag shows and ‘80s-themed fitness classes, to keep its 2,700 sailors (as Virgin calls its passengers) entertained.

Who should go ? This is the best Bahamas cruise for the non-cruiser who is either young at heart or young and eager to party aboard this glitzy ship. If you’re easily offended by loud music, round-the-clock partying or sexual innuendo, this is not your Bahamas cruise.

4-day cruises on Norwegian Jade from Miami

Norwegian Cruise Line offers four-day sailings from Miami aboard Norwegian Jade. Ports of call include Key West and Great Stirrup Cay, the line’s private island.

Port diversions consist of touring the Key West Shipwreck Treasures Museum and the Key West Aquarium, shopping along Nassau’s Bay Street and exploring the white-sand beaches and pristine waters on Great Stirrup Cay.

The 2,402-passenger vessel is part of the line’s Jewel class of ships. Though the ship launched in 2006, it received a substantial refurbishment in 2017 that included a cabin remodel, new and expanded dining and a design overhaul.

Norwegian Jewel might not have the extensive top-deck attractions of newer ships, like Norwegian Prima, or as many restaurants and bars. However, passengers will find plenty to occupy their time onboard with scheduled activities, a casino, spa and pool areas.

Who should go? Families, couples and friend groups will appreciate the unstructured nature of a Norwegian cruise. The line’s “freestyle cruising” mantra — cruising without rigid dining schedules, dress codes and formal nights — is perfectly suited for short sailings. With a wide range of eateries and no assigned seating times, passengers have lots of flexibility for their limited time at sea.

5-night cruises on Carnival Sunshine from South Carolina

I am a huge lover of five-night sailings. They are long enough to scratch the cruise itch and short enough to account for travel time to and from the port without adding any extra vacation days. Plus, the slightly longer itineraries are less popular with hard partiers who can be disruptive on shorter Bahamas cruises.

Carnival Cruise Line offers 10 different five-night sailings from Charleston, South Carolina, aboard the 3,002-passenger Carnival Sunshine. It’s currently Carnival’s oldest ship (it debuted in 1996 under the name Carnival Destiny). However, in 2013, the line gave it a $200 million bow-to-stern glow-up and renamed it Carnival Sunshine. The overhaul produced a new top-deck WaterWorks water park, a comedy club and several bars, lounges and restaurants.

Depending on which itinerary you choose, you can chill out on the beaches of Bimini, shop Nassau’s iconic straw market or go horseback riding by the shore of Carnival’s private island, Half Moon Cay. Consider a pre- or post-cruise stay in Charleston to take in the city’s historic landmarks, epic dining and charming cobblestone streets.

Who should go? These cruises are the best Bahamas sailings for those who prefer the intimacy of an older ship and don’t care about flashy amenities and onboard attractions on newer vessels. Plus, they’re ideal for travelers who live north of Florida and are looking for a more convenient drive-to departure port.

8-night cruises on Carnival Venezia from New York City

The 4,090-passenger Carnival Venezia is a bit of an outlier in Carnival Cruise Line’s fleet. Originally built for Italy-based Costa Cruises and launched in 2019, it joined the Carnival family in May 2023. (Carnival Corporation is the parent company of both Costa and Carnival.)

The ship was renovated to add many of Carnival’s signature venues. However, many of its Costa-aligned, Italian-themed designs remain, including a real gondola “sailing” down the middle of its main dining room and a pool deck built to look like a Venetian boulevard.

Guests might feel like they’ve been whisked away to Italy thanks to regional touches like the handmade Italian gelato at JavaBlue Cafe and the Italian liqueur-infused concoctions found at many bars.

Two eight-night voyages out of New York City include stops at Freeport, Nassau and Half Moon Cay.

Who should go? This Bahamas cruise is ideal for anyone looking for a different Carnival experience during a weeklong cruise. It’s almost like traveling to Italy and the Bahamas in one trip.

Tampa cruise port guide: Sail away from Port Tampa Bay

Nestled on Florida's west coast, Tampa's cruise port is situated on the bay, rather than directly on the Gulf of Mexico. Port Tampa Bay serves five cruise lines and offers a variety of sailings to destinations like the Caribbean , the Bahamas , Mexico and Central America.

Tampa is a fantastic place to begin or end your cruise. It offers easy access to international airports, premier hotels from major brands and boutique options, and restaurants to suit any culinary desire. Add a few days to your vacation to explore what the city and its surrounding areas have to offer, including pristine Gulf Coast beaches, Central Florida's nearby theme parks and incredible museums for adults and children.

Port Tampa Bay cruise port overview

The three cruise terminals at the port of Tampa are terminals 2, 3 and 6.

The port offers restrooms, vending machines and luggage storage through a third party. Several restaurants and bars are a few minutes' walk from the terminals.

All cruise terminals are ADA-accessible, with elevators and ramps. Availability permitting, cruise staff can help transport passengers in wheelchairs to and from the vessel.

Tampa's port does not have set terminals reserved for specific cruise lines, as you might find in other Florida ports. Click on your ship's name on the calendar square for the day you embark, and you'll see its terminal at the top of the pop-up box that appears. You'll also see an option to purchase on-site parking for your cruise in the same box.

Airports near the Tampa cruise port

If arriving by air for your cruise, you can choose to fly into several airports close to the Tampa Bay cruise port.

Tampa International Airport (TPA) is the closest option, approximately 7 miles and a 15-minute drive to Port Tampa Bay. Major airlines that fly here include Air Canada, Alaska, American, British Airways, JetBlue, Southwest, United and Virgin Atlantic.

If you're looking for lounge access, TPA has a Delta Sky Club at Concourse E.

Orlando International Airport (MCO) is farther away but might have more affordable and desirable flight schedules for your needs. This popular Central Florida destination is approximately 85 miles from Tampa's cruise port. Though it can be just an hour-and-fifteen-minute drive without traffic, plan for considerable congestion on the highways between these two major cities. With traffic, reaching Port Tampa Bay from MCO airport can take up to two hours.

Over 40 airlines travel to MCO, including Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Alaska, American Airlines, British Airways, Delta, JetBlue, Lufthansa, Southwest, United and Virgin Atlantic.

At MCO, check out The Club lounge if you're heading to terminals A or B, where prebooking is available for a fee though often unnecessary. Alternatively, visit the Plaza Premium Lounge at Terminal C. Use your credit card perks for lounge access before your flight.

If you're spending time elsewhere in Florida before or after your cruise, you might want to consider Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ), a smaller international airport. It's 60 miles, or an hour's drive, south of the port. Air Canada, Allegiant, American Airlines, Avelo, Breeze, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue, Southwest, Sun Country and United fly from here.

Regardless of which airport you choose, you can minimize your travel costs by checking credit card perks. Ride-shares, cruise transfers and private shuttles are your best travel options from TPA to the cruise port. Though you can utilize public transportation with a combination of SkyConnect from the airport to a public bus, the travel time takes more than an hour with transfers and bus stops. On the other hand, a vehicle that takes you directly from the airport to the port only takes between 10 and 20 minutes, depending on traffic.

Cruise line transfers

All of the cruise lines that sail from Port Tampa Bay, except Margaritaville at Sea, offer transfers from the TPA airport to the cruise port for an additional fee, starting at $24.99 per person each way. None of the cruise lines offer transfers from MCO to the Tampa cruise port.

Hotel shuttles

A deciding factor for where you stay before or after your cruise might be the convenience of a shuttle between the hotel and the cruise terminal. Inquire before booking if the hotel you're considering offers a shuttle service and if so, whether it's complimentary or not.

Hilton's Hampton Inn & Suites Downtown Tampa offers a free shuttle within three miles, including the cruise port, less than two miles away. While Tampa Marriott Water Street does not offer a shuttle, Tampa's free TECO Streetcar has a stop right in front of the hotel and at the cruise terminal.

Independent airport shuttles, van and car services

If you want to set up a private transfer, preplan and book a van, limo or sedan depending on the number of people in your party and your comfort preference.

Mears is a popular and reputable company in Central Florida that services Orlando and Tampa. The company's sizable fleet includes hundreds of luxury sedans, vans and limos. Use Mears' online quote system to budget for your transfer costs. A standard sedan that fits up to three people and four bags costs $150, while a van that can accommodate eight people and 10 bags will cost a little over $300. Car seats do not cost extra; if you need one, add it to the "Special Instructions" area of the online reservation system.

Other services, like Blue One Transportation , offer a private vehicle for up to four people for $90. A shared shuttle is also an option for $15 per person. There is no additional charge for children's car seats.

Taxis and ride-shares

If you are heading to the port directly from Tampa airport, Yellow Cab taxis will take you there from the baggage claim pickup areas for a flat rate of $35 . Taxis wait at the terminal for disembarking guests.

Metered rates within the city are $3.50 for the first 1/5 of a mile or part thereof. Additional miles cost $2.50. The minimum fee from the airport is $20.

Ride-shares pick up and drop off at each terminal in designated areas; the estimated ride cost between Tampa International Airport and Port Tampa Bay for Uber or Lyft starts at $20. It's an estimated $120 between Orlando International Airport and the port.

Because ride-shares show you the estimated ride cost before you book and taxis have variable fares depending on the driver's route, we favor ride-shares over taxis.

Public transportation from downtown Tampa/hotel district

The TECO Streetcar is a free service operated by the City of Tampa and runs throughout downtown Tampa and the Ybor City neighborhood. It drops you off within a short walk to all three cruise terminals at Station 7 , located at the intersection of Cumberland Avenue and Channelside Drive. Be mindful of the northbound or southbound direction you want to travel, whether you're coming to the port or leaving it to reach your local destination.

TECO Streetcar hours vary, so check the day's schedule, especially on weekends when cars start running later.

Tampa cruise port parking

On-site port parking

Official parking at the port is within walking distance of the cruise terminals at the Channelside Parking Garage . You can buy tickets for parking in advance of your cruise on the Port Tampa Bay website. Find your cruise to purchase your parking pass for your sailing, which is 100% refundable prior to a cruise.

Prepaid parking rates are $15.75 per day; the total cost will vary based on the length of your cruise. After prepaying, print your parking voucher, which you'll present to the cashier upon arrival. Alternatively, you can drive up to the port without a reservation; rates remain the same whether you prepay or not.

Parking is only available when the ship is docked, and all major credit cards and cash are accepted. If you want curbside drop-off at the cruise terminal entrance, opt for valet parking for the same daily rate plus an additional $20 fee. Limited oversized vehicle parking at the on-site garage — for vehicles exceeding 8 feet, 2 inches, or that require more than one parking space — is available for $30 per day.

Private lots

Some hotels like Hilton's Hotel Tampa Riverwalk have park-and-stay rates for cruisers. If your hotel doesn't have this option or if you're driving straight to the cruise port, consider a private lot to save some money.

While Port Tampa Bay's on-site Channelside Parking Garage is the closest lot to the terminals, other options aren't much farther from the ships. The 241 Parking garage is well-lit, gated and less than one mile north of the Channelside Parking Garage. At $8.99 per day, it's also more affordable than parking at the port. The lot does fill up, so you'll want to reserve in advance, though you can drive up and park without a reservation if spaces are available.

241 Parking recommends making reservations 30 days in advance during peak cruise season from November through April, and a minimum of 15 days in advance during off-peak cruise season from May to October. The lot provides a free shuttle to and from the port and accepts all major credit cards and cash.

Hotels near Tampa cruise port

Hotel options near the cruise port are plentiful across all brands and price points. Check for current promotions; some hotels offer double points during select times or park-and-stay options so you can leave your car at the hotel while you cruise.

Regardless of where you book a hotel, if you drive to the area, you must factor parking costs into your vacation budget. All parking options in downtown Tampa — including street parking, garages and hotels — have fees.

Hilton hotels

Hampton Inn & Suites Tampa/Ybor City/Downtown (starting at 43,000 points) is an affordable hotel near the cruise port with free hot breakfast. It also offers a complimentary shuttle from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. within a three-mile radius, excluding the airport but including the cruise port.

Hotel Tampa Riverwalk (starting at 42,000 points) is steps from Tampa's Riverwalk on the Hillsborough River and offers park-and-stay rates. The complimentary Tampa TECO Streetcar has a station one block away and stops at the cruise port. If you don't want to eat at the hotel's on-site restaurant, many restaurants are a short walk away.

Marriott hotels

The Tampa Edition (starting at 65,500 points) is a luxury hotel in the trendy Water Street district. With eight on-site restaurants and bars, a stunning outdoor pool, a state-of-the-art fitness center, a spa and a prime location by Port Tampa Bay, you won't want to leave until your cruise begins. While the hotel doesn't provide a shuttle, the cruise port is less than half a mile away.

If you arrive late to the Tampa airport or have an early morning departure after your postcruise stay, consider the Tampa Airport Marriott (starting at 50,000 points). It has an outdoor pool, fitness center, small convenience shop and a bar and grill.

Hyatt hotels

Hyatt Place Downtown (starting at 9,000 points) is close to Glazer Children's Museum and Tampa's Riverwalk. This family-friendly hotel includes free breakfast , a rooftop pool and on-site self-serve or valet laundry. Sofa beds and refrigerators are in all rooms with a four-guest-per-room maximum. The cruise port is a 10-minute walk away.

If the water is calling you, book the Grand Hyatt (starting at 9,000 points), west of the cruise port. Its waterfront location gives you access to a 9.5-mile bayside trail where you can birdwatch and exercise. Various room types accommodate couples, families and solo travelers in luxury accommodations, a villa-style casita or a family-friendly room. The on-site restaurant and pool are equally picturesque.

Nonpoints hotels

Palihouse Hyde Park Village is a boutique hotel in a historic neighborhood filled with shops, cafes, eateries and bars. The hotel's 36 guest rooms offer king and queen beds. Rates start at $177 per night in the offseason.

If you want to stay in Tampa's historic Ybor City district, reserve a room at Hotel Haya. It features an on-site restaurant, cafe and outdoor pool. Each guest room has a refrigerator, and roll-away beds or cribs are available upon request. Rates start at $169 per night; check the hotel website for current promotions.

Restaurants near Port Tampa Bay

The dining options near the port of Tampa range from Michelin-starred restaurants to casual eateries. If your schedule allows, set aside time to enjoy a meal on land and try local favorites from Cuban cuisine to fresh seafood.

Sparkman Wharf is on the waterfront next to the cruise port. See how this family-friendly destination has turned shipping containers into multiple restaurants and bars with outdoor seating areas. Sparkman Wharf also has retail shops and the Splitsville bowling alley for activities before or after your meal.

Armature Works is a fantastic food hall to visit – especially when it's hot or rainy and alfresco dining is not in the cards. Most of the seating is inside an air-conditioned building where you can order meals and treats from 18 vendors; outdoor dining space is limited.

Water Street Tampa is another dining destination within walking distance from the Tampa cruise port. Enjoy the avenue's wide walkways and lush greenery on your way to top-rated restaurants and bars.

Oxford Exchange is a late-19th-century building housing a mix of retail and dining. Its design and decor draw inspiration from London's historic clubs, libraries and shops. A sense of community can be felt throughout the space as people gather at the tea shop or enjoy the bookstore's book signings and lectures.

Columbia Restaurant is perhaps the city's most famous restaurant, with several locations across Florida; three are located in Tampa. It is well known for its Latin-inspired menu. Try the legendary 1905 salad or a Cuban sandwich. If you're choosing among the three locations, know that the original venue is in Ybor City, less than two miles from the port. Alternatively, the Columbia Restaurant Cafe is accessible from outside the Tampa Bay History Center, less than a mile from the cruise port, and the third location is airside at Tampa International Airport in Concourse E.

Things to do in Tampa before or after your cruise

Tampa is known for its Gulf Coast beaches, culinary scene, multiple attractions and sunshine. Stay local to enjoy what the city offers or visit nearby areas to experience Central Florida's attractions.

Nearby beaches

Beachgoers love the jewel-toned water of Florida's Gulf Coast. Ben T. Davis Beach is the closest and most popular sandy oasis, just over 10 miles west of the cruise port. Metered parking is nearby; arrive early to beat the crowds and find a spot.

Cypress Point Park is a public neighborhood park with access to the water, a small sandy shoreline, a playground, a sand volleyball court, trails and a disc golf course. It's less than 8 miles west of the cruise port.

The Tampa Riverwalk

Beginning just one mile from the port is The Tampa Riverwalk. This 2.6-mile walking path runs along the Hillsborough River. Purchase a one-day or three-day Tampa Riverwalk Attraction Pass for access to the following seven family-friendly attractions:

Live sporting events

Cruises depart from Tampa year-round, so if you cruise from September through April, there's likely a live sporting event taking place. Attend a Tampa Bay Lightning game at Amalie Arena during the NHL season from October through April (and further into summer if the team makes the playoffs). Steinbrenner Field is the place to be during spring training for the New York Yankees during February and March. If you want to see the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in action during football season, head to Raymond James Stadium from September to January.

Theme parks

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, just 10 miles north of the cruise port, is filled with thrills for all ages, from children's rides to roller coasters for teens and adults. Thousands of people buy special event tickets for the popular Howl-O-Scream event, which takes place from early September to early November.

Alternatively, take advantage of Tampa's proximity to Orlando's theme parks and plan a pre- or postcruise visit to Walt Disney World, Sea World or Universal Parks & Resorts. You'll need an extended stay because the theme parks are more than 70 miles from Port Tampa Bay, and it can take two hours or longer to get there with traffic. You might consider flying into MCO instead of TPA if you're planning a theme park visit before or after your sailing.

St. Pete and Clearwater

Two towns just west of Tampa are incredibly popular among Florida visitors: St. Petersburg – better known as St. Pete – and Clearwater . The two cities are situated on the same peninsula on Tampa Bay and have ample beach access. Some visitors favor St. Pete's downtown vibe with its waterfront shops, restaurants and public park. It's also home to such museums as the Dali Museum and the Chihuly Collection. Other vacationers like Clearwater for its beach, nightlife and the Clearwater Marine Aquarium.

Thanks to the annual SHINE Festival, which draws renowned street artists from around the world, St. Pete is also known for its dozens of colorful murals. If you like public art, the St. Pete mural tour takes place at 10 a.m. every Sunday. A local guide brings visitors to 30 murals in a four-block radius. Shopping near the Tampa cruise port

The Publix GreenWise Market at Water Street Tampa is a 5-minute walk from the cruise port and is perfect for last-minute essentials, drinks and snacks. Walgreens pharmacy and convenience store is one mile west of the port on W. Platt Street.

After ‘a bumpy ride’ and a dig from Venice, TIFF is poised for a comeback

The day’s buzziest premieres

Described by co-director Billy Corben as a “bats— tale of Florida f—ery” — or, in TIFF’s less explicit but equally bombastic synopsis, “Rambo meets Fyre Fest” — documentary “Men of War,” premiering Friday , unpacks Operation Gideon (a.k.a. Bay of Piglets ), a failed Trump-era coup attempt against Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro in which an ex-Green Beret, American mercenaries and roughly 60 insurrectionists allegedly tried to invade Venezuela by boat and overthrow Maduro. #SpoilerAlert: It ended in a lot of handcuffs.

Were you expecting anything less from Corben , whose mounted heads include cocaine cowboys , Jerry Falwell Jr. , Florida’s 2000 election fiasco and Alex Rodriguez’s doping scandal ?

“What starts out as a geopolitical action thriller,” Corben tells The Times, “evolves into a surprising character study and exploration of what happens to Captain Americas and G.I. Joes when governments are done playing with them.”

History and the doc itself are still being made: The U.S. government seized the Venezuelan version of Air Force One a few days ago and the ex-Green Beret allegedly behind the failed raid was just released pending his October trial . Maduro himself may yet fall .

Accordingly, Corben says he and co-director Jen Gatien ’s film is “not 100% locked yet. It’s basically now a work in progress.” Coup-bound boats move fast, but news moves faster. — Nicholas Ducassi

An awards contender to watch for

Pedro Almodóvar, director (“The Room Next Door”)

Few filmmakers have explored the emotional lives of women as exhaustively — or as colorfully — as Almodóvar. For his first feature in English, “The Room Next Door,” the Spanish writer-director has recruited two actresses who feel instantly at home in his singular melodramatic universe: Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton, who play New York writers and old friends who reconnect during a moment of crisis. Moore, in her first collaboration with Almodóvar, stars as Ingrid, the author of a bestselling book about her fear of death, who learns that her former colleague, Martha (Swinton, who previously appeared in Almodóvar’s short film “The Human Voice”) is battling cervical cancer. The women meet up and quickly discover that their bond remains strong despite years apart. When Martha learns that her treatments are failing, she asks Ingrid to accompany her on a holiday (of sorts) to an upstate house straight out of Architectural Digest, where she plans to spend a few weeks lounging poolside before taking a euthanasia pill to end her suffering. Martha is initially wary, but eventually agrees to the plan. Adapted from Sigrid Nunez’s novel “What Are You Going Through,” “The Room Next Door” lacks the wild narrative twists and turns that sometimes characterize Almodóvar’s work — it largely consists of Ingrid and Martha, catching up on the couch — and feels grounded by the universally relevant subjects of mortality and personal autonomy. Yet, rather than being a grim “cancer movie,” it is, as one would expect of Almodóvar, a pleasure to behold, with meticulously composed shots and bold pops of red, green and blue — beauty that feels particularly defiant in the face of the inevitable fate that awaits us all. — Meredith Blake

Q&A of the day

The Toronto International Film Festival launched on Thursday with the opening night world premiere of David Gordon Green’s amiable comedy “Nutcrackers” starring Ben Stiller. Other notable world premieres in the coming days include Mike Leigh’s “Hard Truths,” Marielle Heller’s “Nightbitch,” Gia Coppola’s “The Last Showgirl,” Rachel Morrison’s “The Fire Inside,” David Mackenzie’s “Relay,” Janicza Bravo’s “The Listeners” and Ron Howard’s “Eden.” The festival will close with Rebel Wilson’s directorial debut, “The Deb.”

A little over a week before the launch of this year’s festival, TIFF Chief Executive Cameron Bailey and Chief Programming Officer Anita Lee spoke to The Times about this year’s program, the state of film festivals and a recent jab at TIFF from the head of the Venice Film Festival. — Mark Olsen

This has been a tumultuous year for film festivals around the world: Leadership changes at Berlin and at Sundance; the possibility Sundance is going to be changing locations; TIFF losing its longtime sponsor, Bell, and now Rogers stepping in. Can you give me some sense of what the last year has been like from inside the organization? With so much happening in the world of film festivals, what does that feel like?

Cameron Bailey: We’re all coming out of the pandemic, the whole world is, and lots of change happened with that. At the same time, you’ve got technological and cultural shifts in terms of the movie world, the rise of streaming that went along with the pandemic years of being inside on our sofas. And then also just challenges to the theatrical industry. When theaters were closed, our own theaters were closed for many, many months. Coming out of that, I think it was a little bit of a bumpy ride. Every organization has their own specific circumstances as well, as did we. Some of it was just natural organic change, and some of it was a result of all of these things happening at once. We’re fortunate in that we’ve been able to come out stronger. We’ve had a very good year this year. Our theaters are thriving year-round. We’ve got a great lineup at the festival. We know our audience is back because we’re tracking ticket sales already. Our memberships are up. So that’s all worked. But I would say the last 12, 18 months before that have been rough.

Anita Lee: From a programming perspective, [we’re] coming back from two very difficult COVID years and last year of course we were interrupted by the strike. We’re very optimistic for this year. It feels like we’ve actually had the opportunity to prepare and think about the balance that we want to see at the festival. And so we’re quite excited that without external disruption, we feel that we are presenting a programming slate for the festival that really represents the full spectrum that we would like to see.

Cameron, you and I have talked many times before and you are always diplomatic when you’re talking about the other fall festivals and relationships between the fests. Recently your colleague Alberto Barbera, artistic director at the Venice Film Festival, was a little less diplomatic when he said in an interview, “There’s almost no press in Toronto,” and that Venice is a much better platform to launch a film. I’m curious what your response is to those comments.

Bailey: I think the thousands of people covering the festival in Toronto would be surprised to have that kind of remark made. All of us who run festivals are trying to find the best movies we can and present them to audiences and really show how important it is to be able to bring films to film culture and to the industry. And the media’s a big part of that. We all have our different ways of doing it. We might describe it in different ways, but I think in a world where people have so much more choice than they used to, and are sometimes paralyzed by that choice, festivals become especially important. You want to know, “What are the key films that I have to pay attention to this year? What are the ones that are going to be most worth talking about, most exciting, most transformative?” We’re all trying to do that at film festivals and I think that’s something to be celebrated.

Anita, how do you grapple with the behind-the-scenes competition with Telluride and Venice and New York?

Lee: I always reinforce the fact that we’re very different festivals, especially with Toronto being such a large public film festival. And I think that really influences us in terms of our approach to programming. Of course, there are films and filmmakers that, whether it’s premiered at Venice or at Cannes, we want to bring to our audiences. But I think we are also very clear on what we can do for film launches and our public audience is such a bellwether of conversations to come. There is, of course, this friendly and sometimes slightly more competitive competition. But I think at the end of the day, each festival is very, very different. And most films and stakeholders we work with understand the difference.

The strategy that you have of programming films that just premiered at Venice or Telluride on Monday or later during TIFF, is that something you’d ever reconsider? I’ve seen a number of people note, for example, that Jason Reitman’s “Saturday Night” isn’t playing until Tuesday, and it seemed like it would’ve been such a natural fit on Saturday night.

Bailey: The reason behind it basically, and it goes back probably a decade or more now, is to try to protect some space for the films that are coming as world premieres in the first half of the festival. And it’s not for every venue. It’s really just for our largest venues. That allows those films to really have that spotlight because this is the very first time anyone will see them.

Another title I wanted to ask about specifically is Angelina Jolie’s “Without Blood.” When the announcement came out for the galas and special presentations, it wasn’t in the headlines of the press release and you had to read quite far down to find it. And it’s playing a relatively small venue at the festival instead of one of the larger houses. With that film in particular, is there a reason that it seems like it’s coming in under the radar?

Bailey: I wouldn’t call anything Angelina Jolie does under the radar, honestly. This is a film that is very much in line with the other films she’s made as a director, which is very much about the impact of war and conflict on people, and especially women. This is probably her third film that’s specifically on that theme. It’s not a war movie at all. It’s primarily a film of ideas. It’s a chamber drama in many ways. It’s about the long-term impact of conflict on a woman who’s played as an adult by Salma Hayek. And she’s amazing in the movie. But we really do try to find the right venue in terms of the scale and the atmosphere for each film. And I think this is one that’s really going to be exactly right for the film and the big, deep ideas that Angelina Jolie is exploring in it.

Lee: It was also wanting to clearly distinguish her work as an actor and her work as a filmmaker, which is very, very different. And I will just share that you will hear a big, big announcement this week as related to Angelina Jolie in the festival. [One day after this interview, TIFF announced Jolie would be receiving a tribute award at the festival’s annual fundraising awards gala.]
