18 Great Things to do in Olden, Norway [A LOCAL’S GUIDE!]

Psst! Some links in my posts may be affiliate links, which means that I get paid a fee if you chose to purchase something through it. This doesn't cost you anything, but makes a huge difference for me! Thanks for your support!

Olden, Norway is a small village nestled almost at the end of the Nordfjord (the “north fjord”), and a popular destination for cruise ships. If you are visiting for the day (whether on a ship or by your own design), don’t miss this local’s guide to things to do in Olden !

I have visited Olden, Norway several times (having grown up in the “next fjord down”). In addition to growing up in western Norway, with my work as an Adventure guide for Adventures by Disney, I visit the Nordfjord area weekly during the summer months!

So, it’s safe to say I am up to date on the best activities and excursions in Olden and the surrounding area.

Lots of people visit the area on cruise ships, as there are several places to dock here. So, if you are looking for inspiration on what to do in Olden from your cruise ship, this guide will be of help too.

About Olden, Norway & the Surrounding Area

As mentioned, Olden is a small village along the Norwegian fjord called Nordfjord.

Nordfjord is the “middle” fjord, north of the Sognefjord (where you will find Flåm , Aurland, Undredal and other popular destinations), and south of the Geirangerfjord (one of the best fjords in Norway ).

The destinations you need to be aware of when visiting Olden (whether it’s by cruise ship or not), are the following:

  • Loen (10 minutes from Olden)
  • Stryn (20 minutes from Olden)

These three towns and villages are all nestled along the end of the fjord, quite close to each other. Olden is the furthest south, then Loen is about a 10-minute drive along the fjord, and finally Stryn is on the north edge of the fjord (another 10 minutes away.

See the photo below to get a better idea of what I mean.

Olden and the Nordfjord area is a natural stopping point for anyone driving between the Sognefjord/Nærøyfjord and Geiranger or Ålesund area. If you have the time during your Norway trip , consider adding a night here.

A photo of a map showing the end of a fjord, with the towns of Stryn, Loen and Olden, Norway marked along the fjord.

The 18 Best Things to do in Olden

The reason I pointed out the destinations of Loen and Stryn is that the three towns are located close together, and that most activities in Olden are spread out across the towns.

Thus, you will find that some of these are located in Loen, or Stryn. As mentioned, Olden is a very small village (with around 500 inhabitants), and works mainly as the cruise ship dock.

One thing you must know before you go , is that most of the activities in Olden are seasonal. The destionations around Nordfjord get most of their visitors in the summer months, and so many of the offers below are only available from May to October.

If you are visiting Olden Norway by cruise ship, this shouldn’t affect you, as the cruises mostly visit in the summer. On the rare occasion that there are cruise ships in the low season, many of the activity providers will open just for the day.

But, if you are visiting Olden and the area on your own, and it is in the low season (November-April), always double check opening hours and availability before you go.

#1 The Briksdal Glacier

The Briksdalsbreen Glacier is an arm (or “tongue”) of the Jostedalsbreen glacier.

A glacier tongue is a part of the glacier that comes down a valley or lower area, making it visible for us as we stand at sea level.

Most of the glacier is usually only visible by plane or drone, as it is located on the top of mountians.

The Jostedalsbreen is the largest glacier on mainland Europe, with several glacier tongues in the area surrounding Olden!

Start your glacier adventure by heading up to Briksdalsstova, from where you can hike up to the glacier yourself, or jump into one of their “troll car” shuttles to take you up the trail to the glacier (more details below).

The hike up to Briksdalsbreen is easy to moderate, and can be done at your own pace (2,5 kilometers / 1,5 miles). It will take around 45-60 minutes.

During the walk you will pass (and cross) the Kleivafossen waterfall, which is one of Norway’s many beautiful waterfalls. Note that you may get a little wet as you cross the bridge, due to the mist.

If you want to see the glacier on a shore excursion from your cruise ship, here is a Norwegian company that offers a 4-hour trip to the glacier from the cruise ship dock in Olden !

There is also a private shore excursion option for seeing the Briksdal glacier, which includes a trip up Loen Skylift – check it out here !

#2 Glacier Troll Cars

If you don’t feel like walking up to the glacier, you can get a lift in the “troll cars” offered by Briksdalsbreen Fjellstove (the cafe and visitor center at the start of the hike).

These are fun little open-air “cars” that will take you up the road to the glacier viewpoint. You will still have to walk the final parts of the trail (around 700 meters / less than half a mile).

Note : both on the hike or with the troll cars you won’t go up to the top of the mountain to see the glacier. You’ll still be at the bottom of the valley, looking up at the glacier.

The troll cars are available from May to October, and should be booked in advance . In the months of May and October, they actually have to be booked in advance, and drop in is not possible.

A bright green golf cart driving on a small road in the foreground, with greeneries and shrubs surrounding it, and a glacier in the background.

#3 Oldevatnet Lake (Olden Lake)

In the valley leading up to the glacier, you will find Oldevatnet (Olden Lake).

This is a large glacial lake with melted water from the Briksdalsbreen Glacier, and the beautiful green colour comes from the particles of the glacier (like Loen Lake, which I have mentioned below).

The lake itself is a sight worth seeing when visiting Olden, Norway, due to it’s beautiful colours and serenity.

#4 Rent a canoe or row boat on the lake

At Yrineset , along the Olden lake, you will find Yri Outdoor. In addition to having a small cafe there, open in the summer months, they offer canoe and row boat rentals.

In the summer months (May to August), it is possible to rent these 2-3-person canoes online , whilst the row boats are on a drop in and first come, first served basis. The rentals include oars and life jackets.

If you want a peaceful and serene afternoon in Olden and Norway, this should be on your list! The video below should be enough to convince you.

#5 Relax in a Finnish Sauna

Another offer along the Oldevatnet Lake (in the Olden Valley) is to spend an hour or two in the sauna at Yrineset.

The sauna can be rented for one or two hours, and can fit up to 10 people. So, if you are visiting with family and want to have a truly Scandinavian experience, consider doing this.

Of course, the sauna overlooks the beautiful Olden Lake, and I guarantee that you will want to jump in after a while.

There is nothing as refreshing as cooling down in a Norwegian glacier lake (or as comfortable as running back into the warm sauna after your swim).

#6 Kayak on the fjord (tours and rentals)

If you would rather head out on the fjord, as opposed to the lake, you’ll be happy to hear that you can join a fun 2,5-hour kayak tour from Olden.

This excursion has two daily departures from Mølla in Olden (right on the dock), and is suitable for all skill levels (even if you haven’t really kayaked before).

Olden Active offers these tours, in addition to a slightly longer 3,5-hour kayak tour (perhaps more suitable for those with a little experience).

Alternatively, if you want to rent a kayak and head out on your own, Discover Olden offers 4-hour kayak rentals on the fjord.

When you rent a kayak from them, you will also get a detailed map of the fjord and area, so you can decide on where to paddle.

Of course, the staff can also assist you with directions and suitable routes for your trip.

#7 Loen Skylift

Perhaps one of the top activities in Olden and the area is the Loen Skylift.

Located in (you guessed it) Loen, you will find the Loen Skylift just a 10-minute drive from Olden.

This is a gondola/cable car that takes you from the fjord and up to the top of Mount Hoven in just a few minutes. Whilst the journey itself is spectacular (and might make you a little breathless), there are also plenty of things to do on Mount Hoven.

The base station of the Skylift is clearly visible as soon as you reach Loen, and located right along the fjord.

From the top of the mountain, at 3316 feet above sea level, you can see the entire inner area of Nordfjord, including Olden, any cruise ships docking there, and the nearby glaciers.

This is a highly recommended activity in the area, and not to be missed.

To save time you can book your tickets in advance here , but this is also possible to do on a drop in basis. The two cable cars (named Hugin and Munin after Norse God Odin’s ravens) leave continuously throughout the day – and always when one of them is full.

#8 Hiking and exploring Mount Hoven

As mentioned, there is lots to do on the top of Mount Hoven, the destination of Loen Skylift.

There, you will find several hikes, suitable for all fitness levels. As I’m sure you know by now, hiking in Norway is a must during your trip!

The most popular hike is a short trail called Gjølrunden. This is a 2,2-kilometer loop (1,4 miles) that takes you around the mountaintop itself, with lovely views of the valleys below.

The look starts with a 170-meter (550-ft) incline which might seem a little intimidating, but afterwards you get to follow a rather leisurely loop back to where you started.

If you want to try a more strenuous hike at Mount Hoven I recommend hiking Årheimsfjellet (6,3 km / 4 miles one way). For this hike, you mostly follow the ridge of the mountain to the top of Mount Årheim. The total incline on this hike is 340 height meters (1,115 feet).

Of course, in addition to these two hikes that I suggest, you can simply walk around and marvel at the stunning views from several of the viewpoints at the mountain top.

My favourite viewpoint is a large, rounded glass wall where the sights surrounding you are carved into the glass. When you stand in the exact right spot, you’ll be able to read the names of the nearby lakes, mountain tops and glaciers!

There is a restaurant , bar and gift shop at the top.

#9 Loen Zipline

If you are taking the Loen Skylift to the top of Mount Hoven in the summer months (and selected weekends in May and September), you don’t want to miss out on the zipline .

This adrenaline rush is not the longest experience (like the Flåm Zipline ), but instead will take you on TWO different zip lines across a gorge/valley on the top of the mountain.

Even though this zipline is neither very long nor fast, you shouldn’t be put off (even if you are an adrenaline junkie or someone who hoped for more of a thrill).

What they lack in speed and length, they make up for in views! The view from the top of the mountain and out across the Loen valley and fjord below is nothing short of spectacular.

So while you soar across the small canyon, you can marvel at the epic views.

Some info about the zipline:

  • The 2 ziplines cover 220 meters / 720 feet in total
  • You’ll have a drop of 150 meters below you as you zip
  • The end and start station of the two ziplines are a short walk from each other (3-5 minutes)
  • Total zip time is 20-30 seconds, times two
  • The whole experience of getting dressed, the two ziplines and the short walk in between takes around 30 minutes

#10 Via Ferrata Loen

Those looking for a technical hike and climb will be intrigued by the Via Ferrata in Loen.

People actually travel to the area from all over the world to do this climbing and hiking course!

This Via Ferrata takes you to the top of Mount Hoven (at 3316 feet above the fjord) and includes crossing Europe’s largest Via Ferrata bridge – located at 750 meters (2,460 ft) above sea level!

Side note : This is not for the faint of heart or those who have a fear of heights.

The Via Ferrata is only available with an instructor (unless you are a very experienced climber – in that case you can rent gear from Loen Active ).

In the high season there are daily departures for the Via Ferrata. At the end of the climb, you will take Loen Skylift back down (tickets are included in the cost).

There are also packages where you can do both the Via Ferrata and the zipline at the top of the mountain before returning from the mountain on the Loen Skylift.

#11 Kjenndalsbreen Glacier

Kjenndalsbreen is another glacier tongue of the Jostedalsbreen Glacier.

This part of the glacier stretches down towards the valley that ends in Loen (whilst the Briksdal Glacier stretches down the valley that ends in Olden).

From the viewpoint at the end of the valley, you can see the glacier arm/tongue at the top of the mountain, and it is one of the top sights in the Olden area.

Personally, I do not think it is necessary to see both glacier tongues (unless you have plenty of time to do so). I would recommend seeing this one if you are planning on going to Loen anyway (for example to do the Skylift or Via Ferrata).

Otherwise, you can head up to see the one in Olden; Briksdalsbreen .

#12 Lake Loen

As you drive up Lodalen (Loen Valley), you’ll find a glacier lake, similar to Olden Lake.

Lake Loen, also known as Lovatnet in Norwegian, is perhaps one of the most photographed lakes in Norway!

The bright blue water looks almost like it is man made, and is a result of the glacier water melting into it. The closer to the glacier you get, the more beautiful and bright blue the water gets.

Lake Loen is absolutely beautiful, and worth seeing if you are in the area – you’ll never forget those colours!

#13 Go on a boat trip onboard the MS Kjenndal II

If you want to experience what it is like to glide across the beautiful Lovatnet/Lake Loen, you should jump onboard the MS Kjenndal II – a boat that sails on the lake daily in the summer months.

A full roundtrip takes 4 hours, crossing the lake from one end to another, with a stop at Kjenndalstova (where you can enjoy a light lunch) before it returns.

The boat runs from May to September, and has both indoor and outdoor seating – as well as toilets and a small kiosk onboard.

The stop at Kjenndalstova lasts about 2 hours – before you return to the other end of the lake ( stopping here ).

#14 Bike to the Kjenndalsbreen Glacier

At Kjenndalsstova you can rent bicycles to either bike along the lake or to the Kjenndalsbreen glacier. The latter is just a 3-mile bike ride to the end of the valley, where you’ll reach the glacier viewpoint after a short walk.

Of course, you aren’t able to touch or get super near the glacier. However, the viewpoint lets you get as close as possible.

Top tip: If you aren’t the steadiest biker, you can shorten the bike ride by stopping at the bridge, about halfway. From there, you also get a gorgeous view of the glacier. It’s the perfect photo stop.

#15 A Fast-Paced RIB Boat Adventure on the Fjord

If you are looking for a more fast-paced boating adventure from Olden, look no further than this RIB boat tour on the fjord.

This adventure lasts around one hour, and departs from the docks in Olden (right by the cruise ship dock), making it one of the top Olden attractions in the area.

You’ll get to spend time driving fast across the fjord, seeing all the villages and farms surrounding it as you go.

In my opinion, if you are planning on traveling to the top of Mount Hoven with Loen Skylift, you should definitely do this as well!

That way, you get to see the fjord both from up top, and down below.

Read more and book this adventure here .

#16 Go on a Guided Blue Ice Hike (on the glacier!)

If you’ve ever wanted to go hiking on a glacier (called a Blue Ice Hike), this is for you. 40 kilometers (25 mi) east of Stryn you will find the Tystigbreen glacier, which is where this Olden excursion takes you.

Tystigbreen is also an arm/tongue of Jostedalsbreen.

The experience will last 5-7 hours, so make sure to confirm that you have a full day to spend (especially if you are visiting Olden on a cruise ship). The guides will tailor each hike to the group, depending on skill level and experience.

The actual time spent on the glacier is around 2 to 4 hours (depending on the group), and you don’t need any experience of glacier hiking to join. In fact, kids as young as 12 can do this tour.

There is time set aside to have lunch, which you can either order from Olden Active when you book, or you can bring your own.

This guided experience is available on weekends only – from the end of June to mid August.

#17 Rent a SUP or a Pedal boat

If you are looking for an active way to spend some time whilst in the area, look no further than the SUP or Pedal Boat rentals available in Loen.

You can rent a SUP in advance to take out on the fjord (or lake), or just drop in. For drop ins, the rental is just 2 hours – but personally that feels like enough.

Alternatively, if you want a more leisurely way to chill on the fjord, perhaps consider a Pedal boat instead of a SUP .

Spending one hour cycling/pedalling around the fjord (sadly, you won’t be able to carry it up to the lake), can be quite serene, and perfect for families visiting Olden and Loen!

The rental in Loen is located near the Loen Skylift bottom station, and close to the luxurious Hotel Alexandra . There is also a rental in Olden where you can rent a SUP to take out on the fjord – located here .

A woman on a SUP board on a bright green lake in Norway, with tall snow capped mountains in the far background.

#18 Explore the area on a bicycle

Continuing on with the active things to do, renting a bicycle and cycling around the area is a great way to explore, in addition to getting some movement in.

In Loen you can rent a bicycle, and spend an hour or two cycling between the towns, along the fjord, or up to see the beautiful glacial lakes in the area (and glaciers, of course).

You can also rent bicycles at Kjenndalsstova, at the end of Lake Loen, as mentioned above.

How to get around Olden, Loen and Stryn

Now that we’ve covered all the great things to do in the inner Nordfjord area, you may be wondering the best ways to get around between the towns mentioned.

As I have said, the drive from Olden to Loen, and Loen to Stryn is just 10 minutes – so these towns are all pretty close to each other.

Your first option for traveling between the towns is by taxi . There are usually taxis waiting at the cruise pier when a ship disembarks in Olden. But, you can also call Olden Taxi on +47 95086146, or Stryn Taxi on +47 57872350. The latter also has an email address for booking in advance: [email protected].

Note that the taxi companies are small, and only have a handful of cars.

However, in addition to this, there are both regional and local buses traveling through the area . And, due to the location of the three towns, the buses travel past all of them.

Use this website to find the schedule for the day you are visiting. The stops are called “Olden, Stryn”, “Loen, Stryn” and “Stryn Sentrum, Stryn”. This is because all of the towns are located in Stryn municipality.

Where to stay in Olden and the surrounding area

If you are not visiting the area by cruise ship, and have decided to spend the night, I strongly recommend you stay at Hotel Alexandra in Loen.

This historic and luxurious hotel is known across Norway, and I remember dreaming of staying there when I was younger!

The hotel dates back to 1884, when they could only accommodate 20 guests. Today, this is a modern, luxurious hotel with a large spa (a reason for visiting in and of itself) – with both an indoor and outdoor pool.

So make sure you consider Hotel Alexandra for your stay in Olden/Loen !

Of course, there are other options as well. As with the Flåm and Sognefjord area, there aren’t a huge number of hotels available in these small towns, but there are enough options to suit any budget and preference.

Use the map below to find where to stay!

With a strong emphasis on fresh, locally sourced ingredients, particularly seafood, the menu offers a delightful array of culinary delights. Standout dishes include the grilled langoustine and the Arctic char, each showcasing the chef’s skill and creativity.

8 Best Things To Do In Olden Cruise Port, Norway + Port Guide

Olden cruise port, Norway

Situated at the eastern end of the Nordfjorden, Olden cruise port is a gateway to stunning Norwegian fjords and breathtaking sceneries. Olden cruise port is conveniently located around 1 km north of Olden, a small yet vibrant village with a population of around 500 residents who mainly rely on tourism and agriculture.

Like many other Norwegian cruise ports, Olden’s scenic location and proximity to natural attractions make it a favorite port of call for travelers exploring this region by sea. The main attractions include the iconic Briksdal Glacier and Loen Skylift, favorite shore excursions in the port of Olden.

The port itself offers a blend of outdoor activities and cultural experiences, so there’s something for everyone’s taste. In this Older cruise port guide,

I share with you practical information about Olden cruise port , along with the 6 best things to do in Olden port (and how to get there!).

Olden Cruise Port Guide

As mentioned above, cruise ships dock at Olden cruise terminal, located around 1 km north of the village. The cruise ship terminal can accommodate up to one cruise vessel at a time, so in case there are more ships in port, anchoring in the fjord is also an option.

There is no terminal building, however, you will find basic facilities within the port area. Briksdal Adventure AS (aka Olden Active) is a tour operator housed inside the Mølla Gjestehus building, located right on the Olden kai (Olden pier).

They offer tourist information with maps, Briksdal Glacier Shuttle Bus transfers, Open Top Sightseeing tours, bike and segway rentals, RIB fjord safari tours, kayak tours and car rentals. Internet, souvenir shops and a couple of cafes are also available within the area.

Getting Around Olden Port & Useful Info

  • The center of Olden village is located within a 15-minute walk from the port, so you can either walk or take a public bus to the village. Taxis are quite limited, so walking or booking a Hop on Hop off tour or a guided shore excursion are the best options to get around the area.
  • There are two local taxi companies ( https://www.stryntaxi.no/ and Olden Taxis at +47 95086146) and it’s advisable to book in advance because they are limited.
  • Olden Hop on Hop off buses depart frequently from the pier and include a 1-hour loop that includes three stops. One stop is at the village itself, while two other stops are outside the town. One stop is at the lake from where you can spot the glaciers in the distance on a clear day, however, these buses do not go close to glaciers so keep that in mind to avoid disappointment (for glaciers, you need to book a guided tour or a shuttle bus).
  • Besides Hop on Hop off sightseeing bus, a Tourist Train departs from Olden cruise ship terminal every 15 minutes and makes a 6-km loop around the village and beautiful Floen Lake, set around 3 km south of the village. The trains are wheelchair accessible.
  • The currency in Norway is the Norwegian krone (NOK). 1 USD equals 10.60 NOK; 1 EUR equals 11.50 NOK; 1 GBP equals 13.50 NOK. ATMs are available in Olden village. Credit/debit cards are accepted almost everywhere, including the port area.
  • The high season in Olden is in the summer from June to August, however, even during the summertime the weather can be unpredictable. Keep this in mind because it may result in the shore excursions’ last-minute cancelations.
  • Olden is a frequent stop in the Baltic and Norwegian Fjords cruise itineraries. Major cruise lines sailing to Olden Norway include P&O Cruises, Fred Olsen Cruise Lines, Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, Cunard Line, MSC Cruises, Costa Cruises, Disney Cruise Line, Azamara, Seabourn and Windstar Cruises .

What To See in Olden Village

Just a 15-minute pleasant walk from the cruise ship, you will reach Olden, a quaint village with approximately 500 residents. Nestled at the mouth of the Oldeelva River at the northern end of the Oldedalen Valley on the southern shore of the Nordfjorden, the location of this village is scenic, with towering mountains and icy streams of glacier water crossed by wooden bridges.

Despite its small size, the village boasts amenities like a supermarket, gift shops and outlet stores, an art gallery, bars and cafes. The main landmarks are two churches: the 18th-century Old Olden Church featuring a carved altar and simple, wooden interior, and the Olden Church , a newer red church dating from 1934.

If you continue walking further down the road, 2 km south of the village, you’ll come across one of the area’s natural attractions, a shallow yet beautiful Laukifossen waterfall . Both a tourist train and sightseeing bus stop here, so you can opt for that in case you mind walking (the walk takes about 40 minutes).

A kilometer further down the river, you’ll reach Floen Lake which serves as a reservoir for water from the Briksdal Glacier, a branch of the expansive Josterdalsbreen Glacier. The walk here is pleasant and the roads are well-signposted, but there are no facilities along the way. This walk is perfect for nature enthusiasts looking to escape the crowded touristy places. The area is completely flat and the walk is along the road.

Old Olden Church is one of the main landmarks in Olden cruise port, and is located within 1 km from the port.

6 Best Things To Do In Olden Cruise Port

1. briksdal glacier.

Also known as Briksdalsbreen, the spectacular Briksdal Glacier is located around 22 km/14 miles south of the port of Olden. The glacier descends from an altitude of 1,910 meters above sea level to the Briksdalsvatnet lake, forming a spectacular sight not to be missed!

The glacier forms a part of the Jostedal Glacier National Park and the drive there may take between 30 and 45 minutes, depending on the method of transportation and local conditions. Guided tours and a bus/shuttle bus usually take you to the Briksdalen Mountain Lodge (Fjellstove) where you will find parking and a few cafes and shops.

From there, you can take a scenic yet strenuous 2.5 km hike to the lake along the river, or take a “ Troll car “, a 6-seater passenger jeep that cuts out the steepest and roughest part of the road. The cars are available for an extra charge however even they cannot bring you to the top. You will still need to walk an additional 15-20 minutes from the drop-off point to the lake.

The hike is more scenic and one of the stops along the way is a breathtaking Kleivafossen waterfall , one of the most photographed waterfalls in Norway.

Briksdal Glacier Olden Norway

How to get from Olden cruise port to Briksdal Glacier?

To get to Briksdal Glacier from Olden cruise port, you can take a public bus (this option is not recommended as buses do not run frequently, you can check the schedules at https://www.skyss.no/ ) or a taxi , book a Briksdal Glacier Shuttle Bus from the port (a 3.5-hour round trip tour, two departures daily), rent a car at the port (parking is available at a Mountain Lodge) or book a guided shore excursion (which is recommended to cruise ship passengers).

You can get more info on the official website https://www.briksdal.com/ .

2. Loen Skylift

Located only 5.6 km/3.5 miles (less than a 10-minute drive) northeast of port Olden, Loen Skylift attracts those in search of spectacular views of Norwegian fjords. Said to be one of the steepest cable cars in the world, this cable car takes you from the fjord to the top of Mount Hoven (1,011 meters) in only 5 minutes.

Hoven Restaurant is available at the upper lift station, so you can enjoy a local meal or a coffee while enjoying panoramic views that spread as far as the eye can see.

However, it is highly recommended to check the weather in advance. If it’s cloudy or rainy, you probably won’t get the chance to clearly see the fjords and glaciers which may be disappointing. It may be better to wait until you get there and then decide whether to book a guided tour or a shuttle.

Via Ferrata, zipline, hiking, and kayaking are some of the activities offered in the summertime. You can read more at https://www.loenskylift.com/

Loen Skylift Olden, Norway

How to get from Olden port to Loen Skylift?

The distance between Olden cruise terminal and Loen Skylift is short, less than a 10-minute drive, so the best way is to take a shuttle bus from the port. Shuttle buses depart every 30 minutes from the pier and they are a great option as you can choose how much time you want to spend at the top station.

Cruise lines usually organize shore excursions but they stay only a limited time at the top and you cannot cancel the excursion last minute if the visibility is low (you won’t get a refund). During the day the sky might clear up, so if you choose to come by shuttle bus, you can stay as long as you want.

3. RIB Boat Adventure

If you are in for an adrenaline-pumping adventure, you should book a Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) excursion on Olden’s breathtaking Nordfjord. This high-speed and exhilarating ride provides a unique and dynamic perspective of the stunning scenery that surrounds this picturesque destination.

Hold on tight as the RIB boat accelerates across the fjord’s crystal-clear emerald waters and take in the panoramic views of Olden’s majestic cliffs, serene waters, and lush greenery.

To secure your spot and ensure availability, it’s advisable to consider pre-booking the RIB boat adventure online before your visit to Olden. The tours depart from Mølla Gjestehus in front of the ship and are organized by Olden Active .

Alternative activities include kayaking on the Nordfjord, SUP (stand-up paddling), and glacier hiking.

4. Huaren Viewpoint

If you’re into hiking, there’s a nature trail that starts at the cruise port and goes up to Huaren viewpoint, located around 4 km/2.5 miles (a 1-hour walk) from the pier. The route is well-marked and the first part of it is a smooth, paved road with minimal traffic, followed by a pleasant gravel road.

The hike is pleasant and suitable even for those who aren’t in perfect shape. It takes about 1.5 hours each way, including the stops along the way. Of course, panoramic views of the town and surrounding fjords are magnificent and well worth the climb. No facilities are available, just a few benches to sit and relax along the way.

5. Oldevatnet Lake (Olden Lake)

Oldevatnet Lake, also known as Olden Lake, is located approximately 8 km/5 miles south of Olden cruise dock, and the drive takes around 10 minutes. Set in the heart of Oldedalen Valley, this is where you’ll experience wild nature at its best.

You’ll see this lake on your way to Briksdal Glacier, and if you’re coming there on your own, you’ll probably want to stop and take some Instagram-worthy pictures along the way. The mirror-like waters capture the surrounding mountains, creating a breathtaking scene where you can just enjoy your alone time or spend some relaxing time with family and friends.

Olden Lake

6. Singerheimen

Only 1.5 km/1 mile (a 20-minute walk) from Olden port, a bit outside the heart of Olden village, stands Singerheimen, the former house of American millionaire and painter William Henry Singer Jr. and his wife Anna.

Renowned for its unique mint green color, Singerheimen is ideal for those of you looking to learn more about local culture. The property stands at the top of a hill and provides breathtaking views of the fjord and the Oldedalen Valley.

Singerheimen has been recognized and preserved as a building of Cultural Heritage by the Norwegian Directorate of Cultural Heritage. Visitors interested in exploring this historic residence can arrange private tours through their official website, https://singerheimen.com/ . So, if you’re planning to visit, make sure to book in advance!

8 Best Things to do in Olden Norway from the Cruise Ship Port

By: Author coupletraveltheworld

Posted on Last updated: July 8, 2023

Categories Europe , Norway , Travel Blog Post

Looking for things to do in Olden Norway from a cruise ship? You have come to the right place.

We visited Olden Norway on the Norwegian Star cruise and found it to be an absolutely lovely little town.

Directly off the ship, there is not a real lot to do – just a few cafes, tourist shops and a supermarket is in direct walking distance (it is not a big town to explore) but there are a few really good things not to far from Olden Norway and your cruise ship if you know where to look.

Here is our top tips of the best activities in Olden Norway when you only have 1 day!

8 Best Things to do in Olden Norway from a Cruise Ship

1. visit olden old church.

If you want a just short hike from the ship (about 1 km), we would recommend a visit to the Olden Old Church which is a stunning traditional Norwegian red church in a field of flowers. When you exit the ship, walk right to locate the church.

The church was built in 1759 on the site of an old stave church dating from the 14th century.

Make sure you take a quick look inside, it is interesting to see inside. It reminded me of a Christian church you see in Viking movies.

2. Take a troll car up the Briksdal Glacier

An unmissable attraction in the Olden area is the Briksdal Glacier. If you are not that fit (or feeling lazy after a lot of eating on the ship) you can get a “ troll car ” which is a small open-air buggy up the Briksdal Glacier.

You can book them through Briksdalsbreen Fjellstove (the cafe and visitor center at the start of the hike) but it is advisable to book in advance if you are traveling to the area in peak season (between May and October). We arrived at around 11am to the glacier in June and because we had not booked the troll car in advance, we had to either walk up to the glacier or wait until 1.30pm to take a troll car.

Opting out of the 2 hour walk for a troll car, we decided to walk up the glacier.

If you decide you would like a ride on a troll car, note that you will still need to be able to walk the final leg of the trail (less than 1km) to the glacier.

It is on a flat gravel path, not particularly suitable for wheelchairs, although I did see one while I was there.

3. Hike up to the Briksdal Glacier

Another option is to hike up to the Briksdal Glacier, an arm (or “tongue”) of the larger Jostedalsbreen glacier.

When my mother heard the word “glacier” she thought we were going to be actually walking on the glacier itself (as you are in places like Iceland ). This isn’t what you are able to do here. You are able to hike to the bottom of the mountain and look up to see the glacier from below.

Unfortunately, the glacier is decreasing in size at a rapid rate. We heard from a couple that had seen the glacier just four years ago, that it was much, much bigger back then than it is now. Believe it or not, the Jostedalsbreen glacier is actually the largest glacier on mainland Europe. Most the the glacier is only seen from above so it is actually much bigger than what it looks to us.

My parents in their 60s/70s were worried about completing the hike to the glacier, but it sounds harder than it is in reality. It is not an easy hike by any means, there are uphill sections of it that leave you breathless however, if you are relatively able bodied and healthy, you will be able to complete the hike. We saw people in their 70s and 80s easily doing it. I am a little scared of heights for people like me out there you will be happy to know there were no cliff edges or anything to get me really nervous on the way up.

It is around 2,5 kilometers / 1,5 miles and will take you approximately 45 minutes uphill (less on the way back).

It is not just the glacier which is absolutely stunning, the hike up/down is just as beautiful with picturesque mountain ranges and waterfalls everywhere you look. During the walk you will cross the stunning Kleivafossen waterfall. I read that you may get a little wet crossing the waterfall this due to the mist but I did not experience this.

If you want a guided tour of the glacier, at a cheaper price than the cruise ship, this tour is a nice option.

If you are up for a DIY shore excursion, there is also a public glacier bus that takes you to the Briksdal Glacier. The bus departs from Olden harbour at 10:05am and leaves the Briksdalsbre Fjellstove Mountain lodge (beginning of the walk) at 13:30pm. The bus costs 40NOK each (around 4 USD) per way which is super cheap for Norway. The main risk in doing the bus is that the bus is full and you have no way to get to the glacier or back.

Briksdal Glacier

4. Go for a ride on the Loen Skylift

Another good activity to do from the Olden cruise port is to visit the Loen Skylift, in the inner part of the Nordfjord, in the heart of Fjord Norway. Loen is a town located very near from Olden, being only a 10 minute drive away. Ubers do operate in the area (although sparingly) so you might be lucky enough to get one. There is also public bus line 111 which will take you there.

The Loen Skylift takes you to the top of Mount Hoven, overlooking the stunning fjord below. It has bragging rights as one of the steepest cable cars in the world which will lift you from the fjord to 1011 m (3316 feet above sea level).

From the top, the view is quite amazing and you can see the whole of Olden including your cruise ship as well as surrounding glaciers.

You can book your tickets in advance here . It is also possible to book in person. There are two cable cars running (Hugin and Munin after Norse God Odin’s ravens) and it is not likely to sell out for the day as the troll cars are in summer so paying in person is probably a safe bet. Tickets cost around 50 USD pp.

loen skylift.

5. Eat Lunch in the sky at Hoven Restaurant

Located at the top of the Loen skylift is a great restaurant, Hoven where you can enjoy a fabulous lunch in the sky.

One of the iconic meals to try in the restaurant is the Mountain trout with celery puré, cucumber, prawns and roasted potato.

Like everything in Norway, the restaurant is not cheap and a meal will set you back NOK 440 (around $40 USD) but it is worthwhile for a lovely experience with a spectacular view.

The Skylift Charcuterie Platter Local with cured ham, salami and cheeses, olives, chutney, flatbread is also a nice option if you want a light option after some heavy eating on the cruise ship.

hoven restaurant

6. Go Hiking or Ziplining on Mount Hoven

If you are feeling energetic, there are great hiking opportunities at the top of Mount Hoven, which are available from May to October when cruise ships are in dock.

To reach the top of Mount Hoven, you need to take the Loen skylift to the top. Some of the most popular trails at the top include Mt. Skredfjellet, Jølrunden and Mt. Skredfjellet.

For adrenline junkies, you can also go zipling at the top of Mount Hoven (which is far too scary for me) but looks like a very cool experience.

ziplining-mount-hoven

7. Hike the Huaren Trail

Another trail you can complete which is close to the port (about 1km away) near Yris cafe is the Huaren Trail.

In total the viewpoint is around a 5.5 mile walk there and back from the port. The views at the top of the trail are amazing. Along the way, you will pass forest with amazing views of the spectacular landscape below.  It takes around 2 hours give or take to reach the Huaren viewpoint, 1,250 feet above sea level.(less going back downhill).

The view of the top of Nordfjord, the sixth-longest fjord in Norway, with snow capped mountains above is well worth the effort.

The hike is moderate in difficulty. It is mostly a gravelly path however the last 200m or so is known to get a little muddy so make sure you wear appropriate footwear.

8. Eat/drink at a local cafe in Olden

If you feel like a lazy day at port, that is perfectly okay too. There are only a few cafes/restaurants in town to choose from (two we counted) with Yris cafe in our opinion the best.

They have wifi and decent coffee on offer along with a large menu if you are feeling hungry. Disappointingly, there was not a lot of Norwegian specialities on offer on the menu.

6 Unmissable Attractions In Olden, The Norwegian Fjords

Adventure Travel , Europe , Norway , Travel | October 9, 2018

This is a sponsored post. While I'm Young uses affiliate links.

I recently explored the magnificent Norwegian Fjords with P&O Cruises and got to experience some of their most popular shore excursions in Olden, one of our ports of call.

Olden, Norway is a tranquil village nestling at the southern end of one branch of the  Nordfjord and at the entrance to the stunning Oldedalen Valley.

We had a lot of fun and found lots of unique things to do in Olden.

The shore excursions available there range from high-speed activities to once-in-a-lifetime visits to almost other-worldly natural attractions.

What to do in Olden on a Norwegian Fjords cruise

It’s a destination where you can eat lunch at an elegant restaurant in the sky, then find yourself gazing at a real-life glacier a few hours later.

Where you can enjoy a stroll around the waters’ edge, spend hours chatting to a local fisherman, or get out on the water to truly immerse yourself in the scenery.

In case you’re ever lucky enough to drop anchor in this Norwegian port, I’ve put together a list of the best things to do in Olden and the cruise ship excursions that take you there.

6 Best Things To Do In Olden, Norway

Visiting the Norwegian Fjords? Check out the mammoth selection of excursions and activities available to book on GetYourGuide . GYG is a reputable site and you can cancel any time.

Watch my Norway travel video on Youtube

You can read my post about what to do in Geiranger , the other port I explored, for inspiration if you’re thinking of booking a Norwegian Fjords cruise.

If you’re looking to visit the Norwegian Fjords from Oslo, check out this incredible tour . There are over 1,700 excellent reviews!

But now, here’s my pick of the best shore excursions and things to do in Olden, Norway.

1. Take a rib ride across the fjord

Best things to do in Olden, Norway: a rib ride

Disembark at Loen cruise terminal and you can climb straight into another, smaller, vessel. I donned a cosy onesie and hopped into an inflatable RIB boat to roar across the fjord.

The high-speed ride is a thrilling adventure on the aquamarine water, reaching speeds of up to 30 knots.

Perhaps best of all for cruise lovers, you can enjoy a new perspective of the cruise ship you just got off from the water below.

We were lucky enough to spot some baby whales during our ride, and the views of the village and mountains beyond are incredible.

2. Catch crayfish – and eat them!

Cray fishing in Olden, Norway

Fancy catching some snacks out on the RIB? We caught crayfish with our captain during the boat ride and once back onshore, the captain cooked our catch in a traditional lavvo tent on the banks of Nordfjord.

We toasted our catch with crisp white wine then retreated into the warmth of the old flour mill by the fjord for our meal.

Huddled around a big wooden table, we were given a candlelit de-shelling lesson from the pro and passed the shellfish around the group.

It’s amazing how something so simple can be SO delicious, and this was a really cosy, memorable experience that I definitely recommend.

3. Ride the Loen Skylift

Best things to do in Olden, Norway: Norwegian Fjords cruise excursions

In the sleepy village of Loen, we boarded the Loen Skylift Cable Car to ascend the 1011m up Mount Hoven in just five minutes for some of the most stunning fjord, mountain and village views in the whole of Norway.

From the skylift, you can see a surreal view of the calm glacial waters of the fjord into the Lodalen Valley and Kjenndalen.

Try to do this on a clear day for the best views!

4. Hike on Mount Hoven

Hiking in Olden, Norway

From May to October when the weather permits, Mount Hoven is a hiker’s paradise.

Ride the skylift to the the top and then choose one of the easy short hiking trails like Mt. Skredfjellet, Jølrunden or Mt. Skredfjellet.

If you don’t want to go by foot, I’m told the mountain will soon  have zip-lining and paragliding on offer for adrenaline junkies.

5. Eat lunch in the sky

Best place to eat in Loen, Norwegian Fjords

Ah, my favourite part of Hove: its restaurant!

The glass panelled eatery in the clouds gives diners panoramic views over the fjord below, and the food is exquisite, particularly the rainbow trout.

For afters, try the ‘Suspension Bridge Waffle’, a calorific, indulgent dessert served with brown goats cheese caramel ice cream.

This may be the best waffle I’ve ever eaten – and I’ve been to Belgium. Their hot chocolates are also divine.

There’s even a ‘messy’ area at the side of the restaurant for muddy hikers, complete with a cosy fire and blankets.

I would happily have hidden there for the day!

6. Ride a troll car to a glacier

How to see Briksdal Glacier in Norway's fjords

We poured into open ‘troll cars’ which took us through the national park, past thundering waterfalls towards the vast, million-years-old Briksdal Glacier.

We then got off the troll cars and walked through the valley to the foot of the Briksdal Glacier, which is one of the offshoots of the vast Jostedal Glacier.

This impressive wonder of nature won’t be there forever, so see it before it’s gone.

In fact, there are signs marking the glacier’s rapidly retreating position over the years. You wouldn’t believe how much it’s shrank since the 1950s!

At the place where the troll cars depart, there’s a large gift shop and cafe for coffee and pastries, if you need to warm up or buy souvenirs from Norway.

Why You Should Book Shore Excursions When You Cruise

Despite the amount of activities I packed in, I felt surprisingly relaxed in Norway – a feeling that lingered long after my trip.

I think that’s partly because I’d spent so much time immersed in nature, and partly because the excursions I did meant I didn’t have to worry about a thing.

I’ve discovered the beauty of cruise excursions is that as well as ensuring you see and do the best things in a destination, they also erase the stress of planning, keeping track of time and keeping yourself safe.

The variety of excursions available with P&O Cruises means that you truly can tailor your holiday to suit your tastes, with plenty of fast-paced adventures for the adrenaline junkies and ample choice of more relaxed, cultural activities for those who prefer to simply unwind when they cruise.

Things to do in Olden Norway from a Cruise Ship

Olden is a village which is found in the municipality of Stryn in Vestland county. As you sail in on the cruise ship, you will have made your way down the Nordfjorden to end up on the Oldebukta bay, which is by the Oldeelva river, at the northern end of the Oldedalen valley.

At the time of writing this guide the population of the village was 498, so as you can imagine there were a small number of houses dotted around and not many facilities, as you would expect in larger places such as Bergen.

To make the most of your time in this idyllic spot, we bring you the things to do in Olden, Norway from a Cruise Ship. This guide will also be handy for those of you who may simply be driving around Norway and you’ve decided to head to Olden for a day or two.

When to Visit Olden

If you’re hoping to see the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis, then you’ll be looking for cruises in the earlier and later parts of the year when its colder. This is because during the summer months the length of daylight is much longer and as such you cannot see the light display. We cruised in June 2022 and during that time the sun didn’t begin to set until around 11pm, but it wasn’t fully dark until 1pm. Then it became lighter again from about 3pm, so as you can imagine it wasn’t dark long enough to see the northern lights. Although it is pretty cool to sit on the deck at midnight and it still be light.

If you’re not a fan of the cold and wet and you don’t mind missing the lights, then the summer months are for you. Sadly because of its location, even in the summer you can still find Norway is incredibly rainy and a tad chilly. In fact, for most of our Norwegian cruise it rained and bear in mind that’s June.

bucket list olden scenery

That leads us onto our next tip, and that is to pack layers, especially waterproof clothing, and shoes; more so if you’re looking at hiking. We unfortunately didn’t do our research and take hiking shoes with us, so just did it in normal trainers, but they ended up quite messy.

The key to feeling comfortable and enjoying your experience is preparation, then you’ll have everything you need whatever the weather.

Getting Around

Because this is a small, isolated village you won’t be able to grab a taxi or bus as easily as the larger towns and cities. If you have an idea of any places you want to visit or excursions you wish to do, then our advice would be to book with the cruise line or an onshore operator. You then have the peace of mind that they will bring you back to the port area before the ship departs.

If you simply prefer to wander about then get those walking shoes on and head out. Follow the Oldeelva river and you will come across some breath-taking natural spots and a few tourist shops. Of course, you can always grab one of the touristy transport options such as the bus or train, but we’ll delve into them a little further down.

The Port of Olden

Your first impression of Olden will be sheer amazement, because the natural views are spectacular and go on for miles. We loved here and Skjolden for their scenery and could happily have sat there all day, it was such a memorable experience. If we could make one recommendation to you it would be to keep those curtains closed (if you have a cabin with a window) and head up to the top deck to take in your first view of Olden. We promise you won’t regret it and it’s become a tradition of ours whenever we reach a new port. Sometimes you will get the usual docks, but then there will be occasions such as Olden or even Kotor in Montenegro which offer magnificent scenery.

Olden’s port is small, and one cruise ship pretty much takes up the docking space. Because they are a tender port, if there is more than one ship scheduled then you may have to anchor out in the water and take a boat to the shore. But the process is normally incredibly quick, safe, and easy, so don’t worry about that too much. We’ve taken plenty of tender boats and it’s normally an exciting start to your day.

olden adventure tours

Within the port you will find the cutest atypical Norwegian tourist information centre. There’s a small café / pub, a few souvenir shops and next door to the tourist office is the local tour operator Olden Adventure . This will be the tour operator that the cruise lines use, so if you miss out on booking before hand then head over and see what they have available. You’ll find plenty of outdoor options such as bikes, the open top bus, trolley train, kayaking and Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIB).

As you go through the security gate there will be lots of people walking around with information on the excursion options available. Take your time, ask for the prices and what it involves before making your decision. You will see the open top buses and trolley trains just outside the security gate, so if you have any physical disabilities you won’t have to walk very far.

Things to See and Do in Olden

Hopefully we’ve emphasised Oldens beauty enough, that you’re already looking forward to going. But the key question is, what will you do when you’re there? The great part of this little village is you don’t have to pre-book an excursion if you don’t want to. You can see what’s available on shore, jump on one of the little tour options or simply wander.

Briksdalsbreen (Briksdal) Glacier Tour

Part of Oldens incredible landscape is due to the powerful affect of the glaciers there, which over time have shaped the mountains and created the waterfalls, lakes, and fjords. For those of you who didn’t know, a glacier is basically a massive body of slow-moving ice. They form a big part of Olden’s tourism, especially the Briksdalsbreen glacier, known as Briksdal in English. This glacier in particular was part of the largest in mainland Europe known as the Jostedal Glacier.

Your excursion will begin just outside the security gate of the port, where if you have prebooked you will be met by the tour guides. If you chose to book on the day, then head over to the Olden Adventure area and they will guide you on what to do and where to go.

The glacier area is about 25 kilometres south of Olden, which means you will have a 45-minute bus journey. This isn’t a bad thing, because it gives you the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful valleys and natural scenery which makes Norway the incredible place that it is. Depending on the time, they may make a few stops along the route so you can take photos.

When you reach the destination then you will have the option of hiking up or taking a ‘troll car’ to the glacier and lake. The tour guides give you a couple of hours so you can take it easy and wander up to the glaciers edge. You will discover the history of the area and glacier, and feel the force of the waterfalls that can be found along the way.

olden lake

Tours begin from the cruise port at around 9.30 am and 11am, and they last for three and a half hours. For those of you looking for a little more freedom there is a shuttle bus to and from the glacier, but you will always have the risk of not getting back to the ship on time. If you choose this option, then maybe get up nice and early to be the first ones heading off.

This tour can be booked with your cruise company, but we found a cheaper option for our next visit that can be booked through Viator

Loen Skylift

One of the newer attractions in the area is the Loen Skylift which is only 6 kilometres away from Olden cruise port, in the village of Loen. There is a shuttle bus available from the port every 30 minutes which transfers you from the cruise pier to the Skylift. You can spend as long as you like there, but remember to give yourself enough time to get back before the ship departs. Tickets are available from Olden Adventure, so if you have any questions then ask them.

So, what is the skylift? It is the steepest cable car in the world and takes you to the top of Mt. Hoven in only five minutes, which is 1011 meters above sea level. At the top of the mountain station, you will enjoy incredible views of the Norwegian fjord landscape, including Mt. Skala, Lake Lovatnet, Jostedalsbreen Glacier and Olden.

At the top of Mount Hoven is a number of hiking trails which you can explore on your own. But they also have a restaurant and bar within the mountain station. Hoven restaurant offers a selection of warm and cold dishes and then you have Hoven bar and café, which has a wide selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. There is a Skyshop which sells souvenirs and gifts so you can remember your special day.

Hopefully on your trip you’ll have a clear day so you can enjoy the breath-taking views of the majestic Norwegian Fjords.

Olden Sightseeing Bus

olden sightseeing bus

There are a number of bus representatives around the port, so if you have any questions then they can help you out. We paid twenty euros in June 2022, but it’s always a good idea to check online for the latest price before you go.

You are taken to various scenic points including beautiful Olden lake and will be given historical and local information on the buildings. Although you won’t go as far as Briksdal Glacier, it can be seen in the distance. There are two photo stops along the route, and you will stop for about 10 minutes, with the whole trip taking between an hour, and an hour and a half.

We really enjoyed this tour, and because it’s only an hour you can do the bus and then another shorter option such as the skylift. If it’s raining then they will have the top floor of the bus covered, which is one of the reasons we chose this option.

Very similar to the bus except it doesn’t go as far, is the Olden land train. At the time we travelled it was around 17 pounds each for the train and it takes about seventy minutes. Again, there is commentary telling you all the facts and history of the area. This option is a little more open to the weather, so if it’s raining then you may prefer the bus instead.

Ok so there aren’t loads of shops in Olden, because essentially it is a small Norwegian village. But when you originally disembark you will see a number of souvenir shops with the normal touristy things, as well as locally produced items.

If you head the 10-to-12-minute walk into the centre of town then you will see more shops available. This will include further tourist shops, a supermarket and a clothing shop which specialises in outdoor wear.

We understand that when it comes to a real shopping experience in places such as Milan or Paris, little old Olden cannot compare. But you can still enjoy spending a few euros on touristy bits which will forever remind you of a great cruise you once went on.

Kayaking on the Nordfjord

Nordfjord cruise

Once you leave the ship then you will be taken for a safety briefing and kitted up with a life jacket and gloves. They use stable tandem kayaks and you will begin in a small pool to get used to paddling. You will then move to the fjord where you are given information about the local history, culture, and natural knowledge of the area as you kayak. There is a safety boat with you the whole time, for any emergencies. You will enjoy about two hours on the water and then head back to the small pool before heading ashore.

Sadly, we didn’t book this tour because it was predicted to be rainy weather all week, but we’d love to do it in the future because the water is absolutely stunning.

So, there you have it, hopefully we’ve expressed the beauty of Olden and you’re excited to visit. As we’ve already mentioned, the weather can be unpredictable and will influence your decision as to what attraction you wish to do. So check it out before you go, because it will affect a number of things including what you pack.

Another tip from us is to get up early, so you can be up to watch the ship enter the fjord and sail down to Olden. But also you’ll disembark quickly and can get a few of the attraction options into your day, such as the bus tour and the skylift, with maybe a little shopping thrown in.

The Briksdal Glacier is quite popular and as such it can book up really quickly, so if that’s a must on your bucket list then prebooking is advised. But again, there are plenty of attractions available on the day for those of you who want to decide when you get there.

No matter what you do, we know the lasting memory that Olden will have upon you because it is truly the most tranquil place. If you do visit then please tag us into your Instagram posts, because we love to see what our readers are up to as they tick off their bucket lists.
