malmsteen tour 2022

YNGWIE MALMSTEEN Announces May/June 2022 U.S. Tour Dates

Legendary Swedish guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen has announced a new batch of U.S. tour dates for May and June.

The details are as follows:

May 03 – Patchogue Theater – Patchogue, NY May 04 – Tally Ho Theater – Leesburg, VA May 06 – Wall St Theater – Norwalk, CT May 08 – M3 Rock Festival – Columbia, MD May 09 – Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center – Chester, NY May 11 – Stranahan Theater – Toledo, OH May 12 – Arcada Theater – St. Charles, IL May 14 – The Odeon – Cleveland, OH May 16 – Oriental Theater – Denver, CO May 18 – Virginia Street Brewhouse – Reno, NV May 19 – Canyon Agoura – Agoura Hills, CA May 20 – Canyon Montclair – Montclair, CA May 21 – Tower Theater – Fresno, CA May 22 – Canyon Santa Clarita – Santa Clarita, CA May 24 – The Marquee – Tempe, AZ May 25 – Rialto Theater – Tucson, AZ May 29 – Casa Loma Theater – St Louis, MO Jun. 03 – Plaza Live – Orlando, FL Jun. 04 – Parker Playhouse – Ft Lauderdale, FL

Last month, Yngwie postponed several concerts on his U.S. tour "due to unforeseen circumstances" and "doctor's orders."

Malmsteen 's latest album, "Parabellum" , was released in July via Music Theories Recordings / Mascot Label Group . Only four of the songs on the LP feature vocals. The album title is Latin, translating as "Prepare For War" .

After working with some of the top hard singers of the past four decades, Yngwie now handles much of the lead vocals himself in his own band, backed by a lineup that includes keyboardist Nick Marino , bassist Emilio Martinez and drummer Brian Wilson .

In a recent interview with Guitar World , Yngwie stated about his decision to take on more and more of the workload himself: "It's a very bizarre thing to try to explain, because in rock 'n' roll it's embedded in people's minds that it has to be a band playing everything, right? And I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that — I love THE ROLLING STONES and DEEP PURPLE and so many bands. And 99.9 percent of the songs in those bands usually come about when the guitar player comes up with a riff, the drummer starts playing along with it and finally the singer comes in and starts singing over that. Which is great. But for some reason I tend to approach things more like a writer or a painter would. Like, the painter paints the foreground, he paints the background… he doesn't go, 'Oh, can you do this part for me?' It's the same with a classical composer, for that matter. And that's just the way I approach it. Even when I was a little kid, if the drummer wasn't in the rehearsal room, I'd just put the record button on. Like, the demo tape version of 'Black Star' that I did in 1982, that's me playing drums, bass, keyboards and guitar. So this is nothing new for me."

USA! Yngwie is BACK with a whole new tour! Check out just some of the new dates below… ticket links coming… Posted by Official Yngwie Malmsteen on  Monday, January 24, 2022

Yngwie Malmsteen was born Lars Johan Yngve Lannerbäck on the 30th of June 1963. Hailing from Stockholm, Sweden, he is a heavy metal guitarist, singer and composer known for his highly technical, neo-classical inspired playing.

You can tell an artist has become an icon when their name is used as a byword for an entire genre or style of music. You think of sensitive singer songwriter confessionals? Elliott Smith comes to mind. Poetic descriptions of loneliness and alienation set? Morrissey is your guy. The fastest guitar playing in popular music? In terms of sheer technical skill, no-one epitomises it more than Yngwie Malmsteen.

The Swedish sensation is the very model of the guitar virtuoso and everything that comes with it. All the way down to the sheer ostentatiousness of everything he does on and off stage, not to mention the inflated ego that’s associated with that kind of musician as well. The kind that would be insufferable if he couldn’t back it up and needless to say, he backs it up with the kind of guitar playing that either leaves you either desperate to replicate it or swearing off ever playing the guitar for life.

For every guitarist who owes their career to Malmsteen, there are at least 40 whose own careers were cut short by hearing him play. It gets even more infuriating when ones considers that he’s almost entirely self-taught, and the only lessons he ever got were formal lessons in music theory and composition. However, the surreal thing is that for a player known almost exclusively for playing and composing highly technical pieces, influenced by classical composers like Bach and Vivaldi, the first player who made him want to play as a child wasn’t strictly speaking playing the guitar. In fact, he was destroying it.

It was a Jimi Hendrix TV special that the young Malmsteen watched when he was seven years old that made him interested in the instrument. Specifically the site of him smashing and burning his guitar on stage. Very soon afterwards he acquired a guitar of his own and started studying the instrument himself. By the time he was 10 he’d already formed his first band, and he hadn’t even discovered his most formative early influence yet. It wasn’t until his early teens that he discovered the solo work of Deep Purple’s Ritchie Blackmore, whose blend of heavy metal riffage along with classical training, structure and influences would go on to shape Malmsteen’s solo career.

Malmsteen would continue to play and compose throughout his teens with an unyielding passion, and by the age of 18, a demo tape of his found its way to Mike Varney of Shrapnel Records. Varney was so impressed that he invited Malmsteen over to the States to play in an assortment of metal bands like Steeler and Alcatrazz. However, Malmsteen was also putting together his first solo record, and when that was released it went top 20 in his native Sweden, charted on the Billboard 200 and was eventually nominated for a Grammy. Malmsteen’s solo work understandably became his main focus.

Since then, Malmsteen has almost singlehandedly made Shrapnel Records the home for the modern guitar hero and influenced a generation of guitarists including Jason Becker, Paul Gilbert and Marty Friedman to incorporate neo-classical techniques into their playing. By the time he was 25, he was already such a respected name that he was one of the first two artists to have a signature Stratocaster sold by Fender Guitars. The other artist? Eric Clapton himself. High company to keep I’m sure you’ll agree, and he’s kept up that level of prestige, collaborating with everyone from Saxon to Zakk Wylde to the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. He’s still going strong to this day and with the live performances he’s still putting in, he shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. Highly recommended.

Live reviews

Swedish guitar virtuoso, Yngwie Malmsteen, is arguably one of the most accomplished guitarists. His combination of heavy metal music with deeply engrained classical influence makes for an incredibly unique style.

I clearly remember the first time I saw Yngwie Malmsteen live. At the time I had just started taking guitar lessons at a local music store and every guitarist that taught lessons at the store lauded Yngwie’s technique as one of the best. I was super excited to see Yngwie live at the Roxy Theater in Atlanta, and his performance certainly lived up to the hype. I remember that right before the show started the lights darkened as Yngwie took the stage, and as soon as the lights went up, Yngwie started shredding away on his classical influenced guitar riffs with impeccable dexterity. He prowled around the stage with his hair looking like a lion’s mane, playing the most complicated guitar scales imaginable.

His backing band also consists of well-accomplished players that lay down a nice musical platform for Yngwie to showcase his guitar skills. Although Yngwie’s music mainly focuses on his instrumental guitar playing, there are also instances in his songs that include singing. At Yngwie Malmsteen’s show the stage is usually covered with a thick layer of fog and the audience is enthusiastically entranced in his performance, air-guitaring to every song. Yngwie is fierce when he is on stage, throwing his guitar up in the air and catching it right before it hits the ground. He has been known to smash his guitar during performances as well.

Yngwie is praised by critics for his skills and has been asked to perform on Joe Satriani’s prestigious tour, G3. When at an Yngwie Malmsteen concert you can expect to be swept off your feet with his unique brand of neo-classical heavy metal music.

All one can say is:

I waited for "timing to be right" for 3 whole decades...& Yngwie had a show (his first stop in 2022) at The HarrisbugXL (merely 45 minutes away) on April 29th 2022.

I took my 11y/o son for his "1st-Ever Concert Experience" & one of my "good friend/student of guitar" along to see how a true guitar maestro "does it".

He did NOT disappoint!

Even one of the 2 opening acts before Yngwie took the stage (Kurt Deimer) was a strong show set!

The other band (Alpha Venturi) deserves honorable mention because their potential is quite good as well.

Not to mention that Kurt & also the boys from Alpha Venturi were great guys as well!

(But that's an encounter to be told for another time)

Regarding maestro Yngwie J. Malmsteen, though...LOOK OUT! You're about to experience THE guitar legend (also I'll happily mention that Yngwie gave my son alot of attention from the stage...& even "kicked a pick" to my son...what a show!)

As a guitarist myself the allure to see YJM is obvious. I’ve been a fan since 1983 but I had never seen him live until this show. YJM delivered in spades playing selections from his new album “World on Fire” along with standards from yesteryear. His singing has improved greatly. YJM handled vocal duties as did his keyboard player. I was amazed at how well YJM’s voice sounded as I have not been impressed by his vocal performances on G3. With his voice being in shape he was physically in great shape as well. He looked 25 years old. It’s great to see him physically look so much healthier. Back to his guitar playing....what can you say ? He is the quintessential shredder and he is still in top form. Harmonic minor scales galore YJM is the master. If you get a chance to see him on this tour you won’t be disappointed.

Fantastic, fantastic. A musical genius but also a great showman. Confident and knows what he is doing. He is not simply a shredder! He is a virtuoso who knows classical music...you must in order to place like this. His influences are nt your standard Clapton, Page, bla bla, but Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Paganini, and that is what he incorporates into his lead playing. I love the guy because he is a perfectionsist to the max. PS; Been playing guitar for 24 years. Love classical music and classic rock ie. Deep Purple. I list Hendrix, Blackmore, Van Halen and Malmsteen as the greatest innovators of the electric guitar.

Show was awesome, but I don't expect anything less from Yngwie. The guy is a legend. Still the rockstar that he always has been, still has that "it" factor that separates him from the rest of us. His playing ability hasn't changed, still technically perfect and can do it jumping around. Always a great showman to entertain the crowd as he mesmerizes everyone. Kind of like a magician, where you think, "how does he do that". Even if he's not quite you cup of tea, he is definitely worth checking out. He will definitely show all the little boys how the big boys do it.

Average show. Unfortunately he's not good as he was several years ago but that's ok. What wasn't ok was audio levels (his guitar was way too much loud while the rest of the crew, which was in a corner, was barely audible) among other things. The venue crew also confiscated my cam and a security member was bothering us everytime we were trying to make a video with our cellphones.

It was a good show after all but ruined by this "recording is not allowed" crap.

Yngwie is always a hot favorite, Houston was lucky to have hosted the last concert on the tour. The setlist was a perfect blend of his tunes, old and new. All the crowd favorite numbers were delivered, and some of the new stuff he was playing for the first time just left me in awe. What a genius is Yngwie Malmsteen, he has inspired an entire generation of shred guitar playing and he still continues to do so - I wouldnt have missed this for the world.

The show was fantastic. Loud (as usual). The venue was okay. Slanted floor, tables (for rent!?), and some technical goofs. Yngwie was apparently familiar with the technical problems as he seemed to just laugh them off. Sunlord was very good. There’s some unbridled talent there, and I will be watching for them to continue to progress. Overall a great time. My second time seeing Yngwie, and hopefully not the last.

Absolutely amazing...I have been waiting along time to see Yngwie and his incredible mastery of the guitar blew me away. You did not disappoint Mr. Malmsteen...thanks for a great show!!

Yngwie Malmsteen Books Spring 2022 U.S. Tour

Neoclassical shred guitar legend Yngwie Malmsteen will head back out on tour in the spring of this year with 19 new dates on the books in the United States.

Malmsteen, who released his 21st full length,  Parabellum , in 2021, had to postpone a handful of tour dates in December after receiving doctor's orders to "take a few days of rest" for an unspecified condition. The statement concerning the postponements also clarified the reason was not Covid-related.

The run will kick off on May 3 in Patchogue, New York and span both coasts before finishing up in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on June 4. See the complete list of stops below and for tickets and more information, visit the guitarist's website .

Speaking with Full Metal Jackie in the summer of last year, Malmsteen compared his approach to soloing live and in the studio. "What I do when I go onstage or in the studio and do solos is I improvise. That's a challenge right there because you the tape is rolling and you have to come up with something right there and then that's going to be forever," he said, then offered, "Onstage, you have to do it too, but it's a little less because it's pulling all the inspiration from the people. It's live and that's a one time thing, but on the record, it is forever."

Yngwie Malmsteen was born in Stockholm, Sweden back in 1963 and as a young boy, Yngwie originally had no interest in music. But that all changed on September 18th, 1970 when he saw a TV special on the late Jimi Hendrix . Seven-year-old Yngwie watched in awe as Hendrix blasted the audience with torrents of feedback and sacrificed his guitar in flames. The day Jimi Hendrix died, the guitar-playing Yngwie was born.

At the age of 10 he formed Track On Earth, his first band that only had him and a friend from school playing the drums. He released 22 studio albums in a career spanning over 40 years. Some of his biggest influences are classical composers like: Bach, Paganini, and Vivaldi. He incorporated those inspirations on his playing and made him one of the responsibles for the birth of the neo-classical genre.

His first solo album “Rising Force”, released in 1984 won the Guitar Player’s award for Best Rock Album and was nominated for a Grammy Award for “Best Rock  Instrumental ”, reaching no. 60 on the Billboard album chart.

No; I didn’t see Yngwie on a Guitar tour with others.

I saw him three times in three different locations around London, twice with Doogie White on vocals and once with Tim ‘Ripper Owens. What I meant by I saw him once three times – was that each time it was exactly the same thing.

All shows started with Rising Force, all went about two songs before there was a guitar solo that lasted about ten minutes at a minimum. I doubt there was more than actually six or seven songs played.

When you go to an Yngwie show…. well you really get Yngwie. The first show, at the LA2 in 2001, was something to see if you play guitar and in your heart of hearts know that you’ve got no hope in hell of playing with the speed and fluidity that YJM does.

The second was at Hammersmith Apollo in 2004 (formally Hammersmith Odeon) and after about twenty minutes wondered why I went.

The third and final time was around 2007 at Shepherd’s Bush Empire – after five minutes…..

Yngwie, I’ve heard him say himself, doesn’t understand the term “Less is more”. Because I have to say that with so much going on I really don’t remember much about any of the shows I went to. Even if you have super abilities, knowing when to reign it in a bit is something I believe that you need.

Yngwie doesn’t…

Hello, my friend,

I agree, I saw him at L’Amour in Brooklyn once, and that was enough. He’s amazingly talented, but yes, I agree less is more. Speed and arpeggios are great in small doses, but too much is definitely overkill.

Will anyone attend? His latest album was awful. Sorry Mr. Malmsteen.

For the past three decades Swedish guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen has dominated the world of solo guitar. At barely 20 years old, he exploded onto the music scene with his jaw-dropping technique flawlessly delivered at mind-boggling levels of speed and clarity, and established the style now referred to a neo-classical metal. Some 35 years and 25 million album sales later, Yngwie, considered to be one of the best guitar shredders ever, shows no sign of slowing down. In 2019, Malmsteen released his first blues LP, Blue Lighting , which featured dazzling versions of blue-rock classics like “Purple Haze,” “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”, and “Smoke on the Water”. In 2021 he released full length Parabellum. Don’t miss the return of Yngwie Malmsteen.

GRAMMY® nominated Swedish guitar player and songwriter Yngwie Malmsteen brings his neoclassical metal playing style back to the Parker! Yngwie’s career has spanned over 40 years with over twenty albums to his name. His first solo album, Rising Force (now considered the bible for neoclassical rock) was released in 1984 and made it to #60 on the Billboard charts. As a young boy, Yngwie originally had no interest in music, but that all changed on September 18th, 1970 when he saw a TV special on the late Jimi Hendrix. The day Jimi Hendrix died, the guitar-playing Yngwie was born. Don’t miss Yngwie Malmsteen’s return to Fort Lauderdale only at The Parker!

History of Omsk

Foundation of omsk.

The need to build a Russian fortress on the banks of the Irtysh at the mouth of the Om River arose in connection with the steppe nomadic peoples. In particular, with the Oirats, whose tribes in the first decades of the 17th century began to appear within the borders of the Russian state being under the onslaught of their external enemies and as a result of internal civil strife. However, various foreign and domestic political problems of Russia hindered the development and defense of the South Siberian borders.

The situation changed only at the beginning of the 18th century, when the Russian conquest of Siberia intensified. Since Peter I paid great attention to geographical research in the south, the expeditions of that time combined socio-political tasks and tasks of scientific research.

One of such expeditions was led by the Russian military and statesman, associate of Peter I, Major General Ivan Bukhgolts. The goals of the expedition, numbering about 3,000 people, were to search for ore and gold deposits, the discovery of trade routes to India and China, as well as the construction of towns on the Irtysh River.

The expedition left Tobolsk to the south along the Irtysh in July 1715. In the spring of 1716, after a conflict with the Dzungars in the north of today’s Kazakhstan, the remnants of the expedition (about 700 people) withdrew to the mouth of the Om River, where they laid a new fortress named Omsky ostrog (fortified settlement).

According to the census of 1725, 992 people lived in the fortress, in 1742 - 1,092 people. From the first years of its existence, it served as a place of exile for prisoners. After serving hard labor and imprisonment, a lot of them stayed in Omsk for permanent residence.

More Historical Facts…

Omsk in the second half of the 18th century

The ethnic composition of the region’s population was formed in the process of settling the territory. Russians, Germans, Ukrainians, Poles, Belarusians, and representatives of many other nationalities were sent here to serve or were exiled. The indigenous people of the region were the Siberian Tatars and Kazakhs, who switched to a sedentary lifestyle.

The foundation of the second Omsk fortress took place in 1762. The first fortress, although it occupied a favorable geographical position, was wooden and, by the middle of the 18th century, it was dilapidated. In 1765, new stone fortifications were constructed. The first stone structure of the fortress was the Resurrection Military Cathedral, built in 1773 and preserved to this day.

In the end of the 18th century, the Omsk fortress was one of the largest structures in the eastern part of the Russian Empire, its area was more than 30 hectares. In 1782, it was transformed into a town named Omsk within the Tobolsk Governorate. In 1785, the coat of arms of Omsk was approved.

Omsk became the center of management of the Siberian transport routes and the Siberian Cossack army, which not only guarded the South Siberian borders, but also made a huge contribution to the economic development of the steppe expanses of Kazakhstan, the annexation of Central Asia to the Russian Empire.

Omsk in the 19th century

The fire of 1819 destroyed almost half of the town including the archive and the magistrate of Omsk with all the first archival documents. Therefore information about the life of Omsk in the 18th - early 19th centuries is scarce and fragmentary. In 1825, the population of the town was about 9,000 people.

In 1829, the town’s development plan was approved. It was made by the famous Petersburg architect V.I. Geste, who took the city of St. Petersburg as a model with its wide avenues, huge neighborhoods, fountains, cast-iron bridges, and an abundance of green spaces.

The composition of the population of Omsk was not quite usual. In the middle of the 19th century, since Omsk was the center of the military and civil administration, the proportion of the military in the local population reached about 60%.

Fyodor Dostoevsky (one of the greatest psychological novelists in world literature), who served a term of hard labor in the Omsk prison in 1850-1854, in a letter to his brother gave Omsk the following description: “Omsk is a disgusting town. There are almost no trees. In summer, heat and wind with sand, in winter, a snowstorm. I have not seen nature. The town is dirty, military and highly depraved.”

By the second half of the 19th century, Omsk in its development outstripped many steppe towns and became not only an administrative, but also a commercial and industrial center. In 1861, in Omsk, there were 2,122 houses (31 stone houses), 34 factories and plants, about 20 thousand residents.

In 1892, the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway began, which gave a new impetus to the economy of Siberian towns and positively influenced Omsk. The development of the Trans-Siberian Railway caused an increase in the urban population due to migrants who came to work from the central part of the Russian Empire. According to the 1897 census, 37.3 thousand people lived in Omsk. The town had 14 streets with a total length of more than 140 km and 13 squares.

Omsk in the first half of the 20th century

The beginning of the 20th century was a time of great changes for Siberia. Mass peasant colonization caused a sharp leap in the development of the region’s economy, primarily its agrarian sector, and the Trans-Siberian Railway ensured the inclusion of the local economy in the system of the All-Russian and European markets.

Due to its favorable economic and geographical position - at the intersection of the railway and the Irtysh River, in the middle of a vast agricultural territory - Omsk quickly turned into a large transport, trade and industrial center of Western Siberia and Governor-Generalship of the Steppes (Eastern and Central Kazakhstan).

Wholesale trade in bread, butter and other agricultural products was concentrated here. Omsk also became one of the industrial, social and cultural centers of Western Siberia. By 1903, the city’s population grew to 60 thousand people. In 1914, it had about 134.8 thousand residents. Omsk became the most populous city in Siberia.

During the Civil War on the territory of the former Russian Empire, from June 1918 to November 1919, Omsk was the residence of the Supreme Ruler of Russia, Admiral Alexander Kolchak, who declared this city the capital of white Russia opposing red Russia of the Bolsheviks. Soviet power was finally established in the city in 1920.

In the summer of 1921, an event took place that had a decisive impact on the cultural and economic life of Omsk. The functions of the administrative center of Siberia were transferred from it to the city of Novonikolaevsk (future Novosibirsk). In 1934, Omsk became the administrative center of a separate Omsk Oblast.

Over the years of industrialization, Omsk became one of the largest centers for agricultural engineering in the USSR. The metal-working industry also developed at a rapid pace. In 1939, Omsk numbered more than 288 thousand people.

During the Second World War, about 200 industrial enterprises were evacuated to Omsk, as well as 60 hospitals, dozens of educational institutions, theaters, museums, and hundreds of thousands of refugees.

Omsk after the Second World War

In the post-war years, new enterprises were put into operation in Omsk, all existing factories and plants were reconstructed and expanded. The industrial potential of the city was also strengthened by the Omsk oil refinery, the largest in the country. In connection with the rapid development of industry, especially petrochemical enterprises, the ecological situation deteriorated. The concentration of harmful substances in the air sharply increased. In 1964, the population of Omsk was about 702 thousand people.

In the 1970s-1980s, Omsk developed rapidly. In 1975, the city’s population exceeded 1 million. The most pressing problem was the ecological situation. Omsk was in the top 10 cities of Russia in terms of environmental pollution. Another problem that required an immediate solution was the development of passenger transport. The capacity of Omsk streets was exhausted, and therefore the construction of the subway became an urgent issue.

The economic crisis that gripped Russia after the collapse of the USSR had a negative impact on the economy of Omsk and the region as a whole. There was a significant decline in industrial production, construction volumes fell, and unemployment rose. A lot of organizations of the defense complex, research institutes, and design bureaus found themselves in a deep crisis without the state defense order.

The share of mechanical engineering and metalworking, light industry, and, to a lesser extent, chemical and petrochemical, forestry and woodworking industries decreased. At the same time, the share of the fuel industry, energy, and construction materials industry began to grow.

In the 2000s, Omsk again became one of the most important economic centers of Western Siberia with a developing mechanical engineering, petrochemical industry, various branches of the woodworking, construction industry, and a highly productive agro-industrial complex. In recent years, Omsk has also acquired the features of one of the largest Siberian centers of entrepreneurship and banking/financial activities.

Omsk - Features

Omsk is located in the south of the West Siberian Plain at the confluence of the Om River into the Irtysh, about 150 km from the border of Russia with Kazakhstan. About 60% of all residents of Omsk Oblast live in Omsk. The City Day of Omsk is celebrated on the first Saturday of August.

The city’s coat of arms is very similar to the first coat of arms of Omsk approved by Empress Catherine II in 1785. It depicts a part of the brick fortifications, which symbolizes the reason for its foundation as a fortress and the center of the Siberian defensive line.

Omsk belongs to the temperate climatic zone with a continental climate of the forest-steppe of the West Siberian belt. It is distinguished by an abundance of sunlight. The average air temperature in January is minus 16.3 degrees Celsius, in July - plus 19.6 degrees Celsius. The highest wind speeds are observed in winter and spring, which is the reason for frequent snow and dust storms.

In the past, the ecological situation in Omsk was very unfavorable. Since 2011, the city’s environmental development rating has increased significantly. This was the result of large-scale modernization of many large industries (including the Omsk oil refinery). Today, road transport is the main source of air pollution in the city.

The level of pollution of the Omsk rivers - Irtysh and Om - remains consistently high. Swimming in them is prohibited. While industrial effluents are becoming more environmentally friendly, sewers are releasing waste products including diesel fuel and petroleum products into the rivers. Dust raised by dust storms is also a serious problem for the city as it contains a lot of harmful substances including lead.

The city’s industry is based on oil refining, petrochemistry, chemical industry, mechanical engineering (production of aerospace equipment, armored vehicles, agricultural equipment). Omsk is a major transport junction - the Trans-Siberian Railway runs through the city from west to east, and the navigable Irtysh River crosses it from south to north. Omsk Airport offers regular flights to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Tyumen, Surgut, Yekaterinburg, Krasnoyarsk, Salekhard, Kazan, Krasnodar, Sochi.

The unfinished subway of Omsk has become famous in Russia thanks to its only one fully built station. Its construction began back in 1992. However, due to funding problems, the completion of the first line was postponed numerous times. In 2019, it was finally decided to permanently stop construction. For local residents, because of the long wait for the completion of the construction, the Omsk metro symbolizes unrealizable hopes, they talk about it with irony.

In Omsk, there are practically no buildings higher than 50 meters, according to this parameter it is one of the lowest cities with a population of over one million. 130 architectural monuments are concentrated in the central part of the city, almost half of the total number.

Main Attractions of Omsk

Dormition Cathedral - the largest church in Omsk located in the very center of the city. The original church was built in 1891-1898. In 1935, it was completely destroyed. In 2005-2007, an exact copy of the building was restored in its original place. This is one of the most beautiful buildings in Omsk. At night, the building is illuminated and looks especially majestic. Tarskaya Street, 7.
