Anglo Dawn is a Blue Water 10m long, 5m wide, motor vessel.

She is a large, stable platform with plenty of deck space for anglers and she is also suitable for photography, filming, assistance at an event, weddings and any other special requirements.   She is licensed for 12 passengers but for comfort we recommend no more than 8 anglers.

Our Skipper, Andy Howell, is an experienced seafarer and fisherman and has been operating boats for over 30 years and has been fishing and working in the local area for over 20 years.  He can offer a unique insight into the spectacular waters of the Cornish South West coastline, and his wealth of experience can be shared with you to ensure the best day, whether it be fishing or sightseeing.

Andy holds a commercial endorsement from the RYA which means he has all the necessary qualifications in order to make your time onboard as safe as possible.

Anglo Dawn is coded by the MCA to category 2, and licensed to carry 10 passengers & 2 crew.  She carries all the necessary safety equipment as required and also carries a wide variety of electronic equipment to help in navigating safely and finding the fish. 

We offer charter trips for both the seasoned angler and beginner or family groups from our base in Falmouth’s Premier Marina, offering parking (paid) and easy pontoon access to our dedicated charter boat, Anglo Dawn.  Whatever your ability or experience we have a trip for you.

Cape Cod fishing is among the best in the world, especially in the calm waters of Vineyard Sound. Our experienced captain and crew help you catch porgy, tautog, sea bass, and more! Recreational Black Sea Bass season closed as of September 4 th . The primary catch going forward will be Scup, until early October. After October 7th our primary catch will be Tautog.

At Obsession Sportfishing we have a unique mission: We want all of our guests to have a fun & safe fishing adventure that they will remember for years to come. We feel there are 3 simple ingredients to achieve this:

• Having safe, dry, reliable boats with modern safety equipment.
• Having knowledgeable captains that know how to consistently raise fish. Captain Luke Cantella is a 100 ton USCG licensed Master Captain with over 25 years of experience fishing the waters off Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, and offshore in the Northeast Canyons. Captain Luke is also a top tier tournament fisherman that has consistently placed in the money in tournaments such the Oak Bluffs Monster Shark Tournament, the Cape Cod Cup, & the American Striper Association.
• Have you ever booked a trip to have a captain yell at you for losing a fish, or not paying attention? What fun is that? We pride ourselves on teaching our customers the proper techniques to many of the different ways to catch our prey. This is all done a calm consultative manner. 

 Our main boat is a 32 Blackfin Combi which is known through-out the fishing world as one of the best 32 foot hulls ever made. Our boat has 2 brand new Cummins 370HP Diesel engines so she’s fast too! 

 Our other boat is a custom fully restored 23 foot inboard SeaCraft Center Console. Like the Blackfin, the SeaCraft has set the standard in its size category for superior sea keeping abilities. 

• ​Our typical inshore trips range from 4-8 hours, however custom trips can be made available upon request.
• All  top end rods, reels, and tackle are provided.
• What you need:  Basically the necessities to keep you comfortable for a day on the water. We suggest things like sunglasses, sun tan lotion, a jacket, and food & drinks.
• We offer a variety of fishing tactics like trolling, casting, or drifting live baits.
• If you are on Martha’s Vineyard we can pick you up in Oak Bluffs.
• Kids are Welcome!  We just need to know the ages to ensure we have the proper life jackets for each child.  Anyone under the age of 13 is required by the USCG to wear a life jacket at all times.
• A mate is provided to ensure your fishing time on the water is productive as possible. This means checking lines for weeds, changing out baits, letting lines out for you, switching lures quickly etc…They are also there to instruct you when needed, help provide questions you may have, and help you enjoy your trip.  (Mates are paid much like a waitress and are paid on tips by their level of service.) 
• At the end of each trip all fish are filleted and stored into zip lock bags for your travel home.  Don’t forget to bring a cooler!

Inshore fishing trips  

Our most popular fishing trips are for trophy Striped Bass, but we also target Bluefish, False Albacore and Bonita. We do bottom fishing for Black Seabass, Fluke, and scup as well. We customize our trips so don't worry you can catch a mix of species. 

Offshore tuna & shark trips

 We offer full day giant bluefin trips where a fish of a lifetime can be caught. Bluefin tuna in our waters can reach sizes in access of 1000 pounds. We also offer South  of Martha's Vineyard offshore trips where you can catch sharks & smaller size tuna on stand up gear as well.

Captain Jim has successfully helped many patrons land memorable catches that qualify for saltwater derby fish pins. The many species are Striped Bass, Seabass, Tautog, Fluke, Porgies, and Bluefish. This is a program that the State of Massachusetts runs every year.  Saltwater Fishing Derby , The Captain and crew look forward to helping our patrons try to achieve a memorable catch that qualifies. In 2015 we helped a young man from New York state land a bluefish that was the largest in the junior division that year.

Fishing and sightseeing on the majestic waters of Cape Cod are available. Some of the species we commonly fish for are striped bass(aka stripers), bluefish, and tuna. The bottom species are:

• Black seabass.
• Fluke (the captain's favorite).
• Porgy (aka scup).
• Early-season squid.

We fish offshore for tuna and sharks. These trips require advanced planning.

Fishing in Falmouth

Fishing in Falmouth is excellent and the area is home to a lot of pretty serious anglers, both for shore fishing and boat fishing. The lure fishing scene is well developed with fly fishing for bass and spinning for bass being possible from the rocks around the estuary, as well as fishing for larger species like rays in the depths with baits. Please do not use this guide to determine if a mark is safe to fish.

Within Falmouth itself, the Prince of Wales pier and the Custom House Quay make for very good fishing for flatties and conger at night. Bass fishing out of Falmouth is exceptional and prize bass are not uncommon. Towards where the Fal meets the sea, the harbour entrance near Black rock offers access to large shoals of mackerel which move through in the summer months. Spinning from the rocks outside of Falmouth is very good, explore these spots yourself and you will reap the rewards. Porthcawl river by St Mawes offers good mullet fishing and is very pretty and Mylor Creek is another place where biblical numbers of mullet congregate – though as you’ll know, that doesn’t mean they’re easy to catch! 

Fishing in Falmouth is excellent, especially at night time, although water clarity can sometimes be low. The river is famously deep, and this means certain species that prefer much deeper water will dwell there like conger eels, rays and catsharks. At night time there are areas that are lit up, and there are many, many places you can fish up against the railings with very good access. The surrounding coastline is wonderful to explore, so do get out and about and see what you can catch. Species include mackerel, pollack, cod, dogfish, plaice, flounder, dab, conger, wrasse, blennies, gobies, rays and many more.

From Mevagissey to Falmouth the fishing is excellent with numerous open beaches and coves to explore. Fishing from Gorran Haven Harbour Wall is also good, and strange species turn up there, including Thwait Shad and Turbot, which are not usually caught on the South Coast. Gorran Haven is very crowded in summer though, so is best to fish in the evenings.

Fishing from St Mawes is very good, with fat pollack, bass and wrasse around. However, it’s not the most accessible stretch of coastline. Pendennis headland is good for fishing, as headlands often are when they are close to an estuary (in this case the Fal).

Spinning from the rocks outside of Falmouth is very good.

Fishing on the Lizard peninsula is as productive as it is jaw-dropping. You can also fish from Kennack sands beach and this spot turns out some fat fat bass. On the Lizard, you will catch the standard pollack, wrasse, bass and mackerel as well as more exciting Congers. Fishing from Mullion cove is good from the pier and the rocks but is nothing special and other marks nearby are more promising.

These guys really know their stuff. We hired them for a 6 hour striped bass fishing trip out of Falmouth Harbor, and it was simply the best fishing trip any of us have ever been on. Cranny , the captain, skillfully kept us drifting over the striped bass the entire time, so there was hardly ever down time. Mike, the deck hand, was patient and attentive. He was able to anticipate our needs and give us sage advice. If you are planning a fishing trip out of Falmouth Harbor give these guys a call.

Cranny is a meat fisherman's wonder. He's fun. Has a distorted sense on humor. You'll have a great time and bring home the bacon. Fished with him many times.
