Day 1 – Arrive in Oslo Take you flight to Oslo, where you will be transferred to your hotel

Day 2 – Oslo and free afternoon

After breakfast, embark on a guided tour of Oslo. See the imposing Royal Palace, the Ibsen Museum and the Vigeland sculpture park. The tour ends at the Kon-Tiki museum and the museum dedicated to the polar exploration ship Fram.

The rest of the day is free for you to explore the city with an Oslo Pass, which gives free entry to the city’s main museums and galleries, as well as travel on public transport within the city.

Day 3 – Telemark Travel west into the picturesque Telemark region, made famous by the Norwegian Resistance during WWII. Upon arrival, visit the site of the Rjukan processing plant, destroyed by a Norwegian saboteurs in 1943. From here, travel to Lake Tinnsjo. As you drive back towards Oslo, visit the country’s largest stave church at Heddal, built in the 13 th  Cenury.

Day 4 – Bergen Railway Depart Oslo after breakfast aboard the Bergen Railway. One of the most scenic rail journeys in the world, you’ll speed alongside lakes and mountains before passing over the barren Hardangervidda Plateau. Arrive in the mountain resort of Voss, where you’ll stay for the next two nights

Day 5 – Flåm Railway Today you’ll take a trip on the world famous Flam Railway. Leaving Voss, you’ll head to Myrdal to board the train. The ride takes you through 20 tunnels carved through the mountains, eventually reaching the mouth of the spectacular Aurlandsfjord. Upon arriving in Flam, board a ferry for Gudvangen, which crosses the beautiful Naeroyfjord. From Gudvangen, a coach will take you back to Voss

Day 6 – Voringfossen Leave Voss this morning and travel to the village of Eidfjord, which sits on the bank of Hardangerfjord. The journey tales you across the Hardangerbrua suspension bridge. Then you’ll continue up the valley to Voringfossen, Norway’s most renowned waterfall. From here, a coach will take you on a scenic drive along the bank of the fjord to Bergen, where you’ll stay for the next two nights

Day 7 – Bergen & Free afternoon

After breakfast, spend the morning on a walking tour of Bergen. Walk around its famous fish market before strolling along the Bryggen Hanseatic Wharf, full of characterful shops and restaurants. The afternoon is at leisure to explore further at your own pace.

Day 8 – Return Home Transfer to Bergen airport for your flight home

Day 2: – Dine on typical Norwegian cuisine at a local restaurant

Day 7: – Take scenic ride on the Floibanen funicular to the summit of Mount Floyen – Visit Magic Ice, a winter wonderland constructed by renowned ice carvers. Enjoy an aperitif in the Ice Bar.

Scandic St Olavs Pass, Oslo Located in calm surroundings, the Scandic St. Olavs Plass is the perfect starting point to explore Oslo city being just around the corner from Karl Johans Gate. The hotel is home to a restaurant and bar and all rooms have free Wi-Fi, toiletries and a hairdryer.

Fleischer’s Hotel, Vossevangen The beautiful, classic four-star Fleischer’s Hotel dates back to the 19th century. Enjoy stunning lake and mountain views from the large terrace. You will take your flight to Oslo where you will be met and transferred by coach to the hotel.

After breakfast we embark on a guided tour of Oslo.. Norway’s capital is a beguiling mix of old and new, featuring world-class museums, contemporary architecture and beautiful open spaces. We’ll see the imposing Royal Palace, the nearby Ibsen Museum and the famed Vigeland sculpture park. The tour will end at the fascinating Kon-Tiki Museum and the museum dedicated to the polar exploration ship Fram, used in the race to reach the South Pole, which also includes the Gjøa, the first vessel to transit the Northwest Passage. The rest of the day is free for you to explore this charming city with an Oslo Pass, which allows free entry to the city’s main museums and galleries, plus travel on public transport. Signature Experience: Dine on typical Norwegian cuisine at a cosy local restaurant this evening. The delicious dishes showcase the unique flavours and cooking techniques which have placed Norway firmly on the food map.

Today begins with a journey west to the picturesque Telemark region made famous by the Norwegian resistance, whose heroic actions between 1942–44 helped prevent the occupying German forces from developing the ‘heavy water’ needed to further their atomic bomb-making capabilities. We visit the site of the processing plant at Rjukan that was destroyed by a team of Norwegian saboteurs in February 1943, then travel to Lake Tinnsjø. It was from here that the Germans planned to transport their remaining stocks of processed ‘heavy water’ back to Germany but the ‘Heroes of Telemark’ as they became known (you have probably seen the film of the same name) blew up and sank the steam ferry carrying the heavy water. We travel back through this stunning landscape finishing with a visit to the country’s largest ‘stave’ church at Heddal, a spectacular 13th century wooden structure that looks like something straight out of a fairytale and return to our hotel in Oslo.

After breakfast we depart from Oslo on the fabled Bergen Railway. Often cited as one of the world’s most scenic rail journeys, Oslo-Bergen is the highest line between any two cities in Europe, peaking at 1,222m. One moment you are speeding alongside lakes and forests that seem to stretch as far as the eye can see and then as the railway climbs further you are past the tree line and on to the barren Hardangervidda plateau where patches of snow linger well into July. Just over five hours later you arrive at the mountain resort of Voss, where you check into the historic four-star Fleischer’s Hotel for two nights with breakfast and dinner.

There’s a real treat in store today – a trip on the world-famous Flåm Railway. From Voss we head to Myrdal, where we change trains for Flåm, a 20-kilometre journey that sees us descend 865m on one of the world’s steepest standard-gauge railway lines, deemed ‘the world’s best train ride’. You will marvel at the engineering feat of 20 tunnels carved through sheer mountainsides, you will be left speechless at the beauty of the sheer cliffs and cascading waterfalls and you will be in awe as you eventually reach the mouth of one of Norway’s most spectacular fjords, Aurlandsfjord. Your hour-long journey ends in Flåm, where you board a two-hour ferry for Gudvangen across the UNESCO-listed Naerøyfjord and its jawdropping vistas. From Gudvangen you take a coach for the return journey to Voss.

We leave Voss for the pretty village of Eidfjord, which is nestled on the banks of Norway’s second-longest fjord, Hardangerfjord – known as the ‘Queen of Fjords’. Our journey takes us across Norway’s longest suspension bridge and we continue up the valley to Voringfossen, the country’s most renowned waterfall. As it drops almost 600 feet into the sheer-sided gorge below, you may be lucky enough to see its rainbow from the viewing point that offers sensational views of this magnifi cent natural spectacle. We continue our journey along the fjord on a scenic drive by coach to Bergan where we stay for two nights at the historic Grand Hotel Terminus, a classic art deco hotel dating back to 1928. The atmospheric oak-panelled bar – voted the best in Norway for whisky – offers over a thousand different labels and is an ideal place to relax with newly made friends at the end of the day.

After breakfast we take a morning walking tour of this beautiful coastal city. Bergen has a long fishing heritage and we will walk around its famous fish market before strolling along the colourful wooden houses and warehouses that make up the UNESCO site of the Bryggen Hanseatic Wharf. Originally built in the 14th century for German merchants trading out of the city, these beautiful waterside buildings have been converted into characterful shops and restaurants that wonderfully evoke Bergen’s medieval past. The afternoon is spent at your leisure. A wealth of sightseeing opportunities include the house of Bergen’s most famous son, composer Edvard Grieg, or a ride on the Fløibanen funicular up to the summit of Fløyen for a breathtaking view of the city. If that all sounds like too much effort, simply stroll around the narrow, cobbled streets with their pretty archways before settling down in a café or restaurant to order a plate of fruits de mer or even the local speciality of herring. They are guaranteed to be as fresh as the air, water and panoramas that you have experienced over the past six days that make Norway so wonderfully invigorating and unique. Signature Experiences: Take a scenic ride on the Floibanen funicular, which starts from the centre of Bergen and reaches the summit of Mount Floyen. Soak up spectacular panoramic views over the city and follow a walking trail leading to one of the many viewpoints overlooking the magical landscape of fjords, lush green forests and mountain peaks. This evening a unique experience awaits with a visit to Magic Ice. Enter a sub-zero winter wonderland, constructed by renowned ice carvers. Once inside discover the ice-art gallery inspired by famous Norwegian and international artists and enjoy an icy aperitif in the Ice Bar - of course served in an ice glass.

The consultant who took our booking by phone was knowledgeable, helpful, efficient and was an asset to Rivera Travel. Her name was Lusia. HOWEVER Rivera Travel's marketing is idiotic. We are previous satisfied customers from Australia who wanted to book another holiday with Rivera but each time we go to access your website it just takes us to you Boat Cruise holidays which we have absolutely no interest in. We phoned your office in England and the helpful guy told us we had to hide our vpn to see your other holidays. In the end we looked at Guardian holidays and stumbled across Rivera's tours on there. Having found a holiday we wanted we phoned and booked it. Why you just trying to sell cruises to your Australian customers makes no sense to me. Little attention to detail and not friendly helpful service.

On my this occasion my experience when booking our latest trip with Riviera Travel was very poor. I called to confirm a reservation that was on hold and when I received the booking confirmation it was incorrect and the train times were all changed. The lady who made the reservation was not very helpful, not very efficient and if this was my first expeirence with this company it would not encourange me to return.

Telephone v Website

Had a great service from the telephone advisor when booking a tour holiday. One star lost as was initially booking online, but could not get to the end and had got a fair way along filling in details (room selection) before advised to ring.

From arriving on Sicily we were greeted…

From arriving on Sicily we were greeted by DANIELLA our tour guide and PIPO ( COACH DRIVER) who proved to be far more than excellent - exceptional in every way. Daniella's knowledge re arrangement of visits in order to miss cruise ship arrivals etc was really appreciated. Comfort stops , boat trip etc all appreciated THANK YOU DANIELLA for your positive devotion to all on the trip.

Failed to deliver the promised holiday

The quality of a travel operator is revealed not when everything is perfect, but when things go wrong and how this is dealt with. Our first cruise with Riviera was great (Rhône river), the second was ok but the third was disastrous. This 3rd cruise was Amsterdam and the bulb fields. Riviera and their shipping partners had failed to secure mooring in Amsterdam, so the core promise of deluxe accommodation in the centre of the city was unfulfilled. Instead we were moored some 35 miles away and had to suffer a coach trip into the city with limited time there, rather than the “all-day, go as you please” experience promised by the brochure. Upon returning my complaint was waved away with the offer of a measly £100 discount on the booking of another holiday. Their promise of “happy by day two or your money back” is just words. Eventually we settled for a couple of hundred pounds back after being worn down by their intransigence. We will never travel with Riviera again.

Good afternoon, Mr Pickett, Thank you for your comments. May we say how sorry we are that the moorings in Amsterdam were changed by the harbour authorities, and we share your frustrations. Our team work tirelessly to gain the premium mooring spaces right up to the day of departure. However, with the ever-increasing river traffic in the Amsterdam vicinity, it becomes exceptionally busy in a very limited Bulbfields season. Therefore, not all ships can be given central spots at the same time. We do offer more insight on this aspect within our literature, both on the website and brochure, and apologise that your mooring, on this occasion, was not as accessible as desired. Nevertheless, we were pleased to be able to deliver all aspects of the itinerary as marketed and expected. Our Customer Relations Team did review your complaint back in 2023 and awarded recompense at an appropriate level for this alteration. On a positive note, this does not affect every cruise and those that sail through the remainder of the season are not affected in this way, as they are spread over a longer period. May we reassure you that the 'happiness guarantee' is available to all guests who state their intentions to invoke this policy, in line with the advertised conditions. Once again, we are sorry that you did not enjoy this cruise as you had expected, and we hope you will join us once more. Kind regards, Riviera Travel

Needed more detail

I needed more detail than was on the website. When I rang, the person I spoke to was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and was prepared to hold the booking while I spoke to the friend I am travelling with. When I rang back to confirm, all was completed simply and quickly. Great service!
