The LEGO Inside Tour – The Best 3 Days Ever for a 7-Year-Old

By Eric Stoen on June 22, 2015 • Last Updated January 18, 2023 This post may contain affiliate links. Read my Disclosure here .

LEGO Inside Tour - The LEGO logo made out of minifigures!

The LEGO Inside Tour – a Review

The LEGO Inside Tour. I first heard of this tour at LEGOLAND Billund three years ago, and it seemed too good to be true – a Golden Ticket in the Willy Wonka spirit that lets 140 people a year (four groups of 35) tour the LEGO factory, meet the LEGO designers and go behind the scenes at LEGOLAND Billund and the LEGO operation overall. Yep, literally hundreds of millions of people play with LEGO bricks every year and only 140 of them get to see LEGO from the inside. Sign us up!

Actually, we waited three years because the minimum age for the tour is seven*, and my son (and the biggest LEGO fan in the family) only turned seven last September. This was the first time he would be eligible for the LEGO Inside Tour. How did we get tickets, you’re asking? Just by going online.

In September/October every year, LEGO’s website publishes the date when its Inside Tour tickets will go on sale for the following summer. It changes every year. Last year tickets went on sale at 1pm (Denmark time) on November 3rd. That meant 4am in California. No problem – I set my alarm, opened up a web browser, and clicked refresh a dozen times until I saw the registration form. I typed as quickly as I possibly could and hit Submit. I hoped for the best.

Three days later I received the magic emails: “Congratulations!” each began. “You made it to the list of participants of LEGO Inside Tour June 9-12.”

So what did the LEGO Inside Tour consist of? Everything! In my recap below I’ll note the highlights, but I’m purposely leaving out some details. There were surprises around every corner, and I don’t want to spoil them for any of you who are so inspired by this post that you get tickets for next summer. Suffice it to say it was a brilliantly-organized three days that gave us insights into every aspect of LEGOLAND Billund and beyond. It was extremely impressive how much thought they put into the details, especially because only 140 people a year get to see those details.

Arrival Day at LEGOLAND BILLUND

After spending two days in Oslo to recover from jet lag, we took an hour-long flight on SAS to Billund and then a five-minute taxi ride to the LEGOLAND Hotel . We arrived to find large packets of information waiting for us, in addition to multiple gifts and two season passes to LEGOLAND Billund with our photos on them. Cool! There were also two bags of LEGO bricks and a building challenge – the first of many building challenges throughout the week. As there were no official activities on the arrival day, off to LEGOLAND we went.

LEGO Inside Tour - The view from our room at the LEGOLAND Hotel

LEGOLAND Billund

We first visited LEGOLAND Billund six years ago, when we only had two kids (1 1/2 and 3 at the time). We love it – it’s a park with some rollercoasters for older kids, but is largely aimed at younger visitors. There’s a great DUPLO section for really small kids, there are rides for all ages, and there are opportunities everywhere to build with LEGO bricks. And a Tuesday afternoon in early June when European schools are still in session is a great time to go.

There were no lines at LEGOLAND Billund, so we went on several rides over and over. We bought some mini-figures. We had lunch. It was a great few hours. One of the things that I love about LEGOLAND Billund is seeing how different it is from Disneyland. There’s a real campfire where you can bake your own bread. Glass bottles? No problem. Dogs? Welcome.

LEGO Inside Tour Day One

Our first official day of the LEGO Inside Tour started with a get-together at the hotel, where we met the other lucky participants (from 11 countries), received name badges and created mini-figures in our likenesses to attach to the badges. We then headed off to the LEGO Idea House, which is really a LEGO museum only for LEGO employees. It’s a great museum – telling the story of LEGO founder Ole Kirk Christiansen and how he transitioned from building wooden toys to creating and refining the LEGO blocks.

The museum showcased a lot of the current sets and there were plenty of opportunities to build. But the coolest thing was the basement. In a highly-secure library-type setup with moveable stacks, there’s one copy of every LEGO set ever sold. We were able to go back to the very first sets, see (and hold) the initial Star Wars and architecture sets, see the product lines that have come and gone, and drool over all of the sets that simply don’t exist anymore, even on the collector market.

LEGO Inside Tour - The LEGO Idea House - also the original workshop of Ole Kirk Christiansen

From there we went back to the LEGOLAND Hotel and met with several LEGO designers who told us about how they came to work for LEGO, showed us the sets that they’ve designed, and even showed us sets that haven’t been released yet. That made us drool a little more! They then led us into a building challenge where everyone was split up into teams. Each team had to work together to create an object out of LEGO bricks to solve a specific problem (see, I’m not giving away all of the details!), and it was fun seeing how different each of the solutions was. It was a great chance to get to know others on the tour.

After dinner, there was yet another building challenge. We had access to pretty much every LEGO brick and element and could design anything we wanted. The specific challenge was to create something that would fit well into the LEGO product catalog – something that could be sold at a reasonable price point and would be fun for others to build and play with. My son and I built for a couple of hours, handed in our creations and went to bed. Some people worked on their creations well into the night.

LEGO Inside Tour - The start of the LEGO Building Competition

LEGO Inside Tour Day Two

Day Two started with a trip to LEGO Headquarters. We surrendered our phones and cameras and were taken to a presentation room where we saw some of the LEGO products in development. Most interesting was a demonstration of LEGO Worlds – a new online game that allows you to build a world slightly similar to Minecraft but with a definite LEGO feel and LEGO twists throughout. We can’t wait to play it at home!

LEGO Inside Tour - Walking into LEGO Headquarters

From there, we drove over to the LEGO Factory. Talk about a very, very cool experience! We saw every element of the factory and every stage of the LEGO creation and long-term storage. Highlights were:

  • The huge silos holding tiny granules of plastic (technically acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS)) that become LEGO bricks and the pipes that take those granules to the molding machines;
  • The incredibly heavy, incredibly expensive molds that have been precisely crafted to create every LEGO element – from the standard bricks to the unique parts of various sets (think Ninjago swords or Christmas trees);
  • The machines that melt the plastic and inject it into the molds for just a few seconds before a recognizable brick is ejected into a storage box;
  • The robots that roam the factory to replace the full storage boxes with empty boxes (based on weight) and transport them to a conveyor system leading to long-term storage;
  • The long-term storage facility. It reminded me of the final scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark – an enormous facility with shelving that continued forever – both away from us and up almost as far as we could see. We watched a robot take each storage box, read its bar code, and then decide where to move it for storage. Amazing!

I wish I could post photos of the factory during our LEGO Inside Tour, but as with most of the places we visited we weren’t allowed to take pictures. Just another reason for you to sign up for next year’s LEGO Inside Tour and see it for yourself! FYI, in response to all of the emails I get, the LEGO factory in Billund is 65,000 m 2  – approximately the size of 11 football fields.

The next stop on the tour was the LEGO campus and the warehouse/distribution center. We took a tour of the facility, had lunch and met with more LEGO designers to see the clay-molding process that leads to the creation of new elements and mini-figures. So much fun to see the process and meet the people who have created some of the coolest LEGO elements, including the electronic elements like light-up bricks and Mindstorms. We also had a quiz on LEGO trivia and a very fun unexpected activity that was one of my son’s highlights. I’m not going to say exactly what it was, but let’s just say that we now have a lot of new mini-figures at our house.

And our day was only half-over! Next up was a trip to the LEGO employee shop, where we were able to purchase LEGO sets and products at the employee discount. We went crazy! I think we bought 15 or so new sets that are now being shipped to our house. Many, many weeks of LEGO creation will be arriving at our door very soon.

LEGO Inside Tour - Employee Store - Company Store - What a LEGO shopping spree looks like

From the employee store, we went to a small showroom dedicated to the new LEGO House. This is going to be great when it’s finished – a museum similar to the internal one that we visited the day before, but far larger and open to the public in Billund. The architecture is amazing – the building looks like it’s made of LEGO bricks, and in an incredibly creative, stacked way (see below). The LEGO House will open in the next two years and looks to be well worth a visit – or for us a return visit. Too bad our season passes will have expired by then!

LEGo Inside Tour - A model of the LEGO House

After a short break, we went to dinner inside a closed LEGOLAND Park with even more LEGO designers. I can’t overstate how interesting it is being able to talk to these men and women about the design process and the stories behind the designs (like for the Chima and Ninjago sets). Then after dinner, we went back to the hotel for an awards ceremony for the creations that we made the night before. Some of the designs from our fellow participants were amazing! The cool thing was that everyone had the same bricks and elements to craft from and everyone created such different, unique things. My son won a LEGO Star Wars set for his “shooter shark ship”. I was a non-winner but received a LEGO Superhero set as a consolation prize.

LEGO Inside Tour - Playing in LEGOLAND after dinner. How often do you get to run around a closed amusement park?

LEGO Inside Tour Day Three

Day Three centered around LEGOLAND Billund . We got to go behind the scenes to see the other side of the rides and meet the designers/crafters who create the large LEGO sculptures in the parks. Very interesting to see the creative process, talk about maintenance and replacement of the sculptures, and see the integration of mechanical elements with some of the creations.

We then had lunch in the park and returned to the hotel for a speech by a LEGO recruiter. After three days of being in the LEGO world and mindset, of course, you’re thinking “wow, it would be so cool to work here.” So it was brilliant to close out the tour with a speech about, well, how we could go to work for LEGO. It’s not easy to get hired, and there are a lot of other people worldwide who want to work for LEGO, but the company is growing quickly and hiring.

Some of the employees we met had done the LEGO Inside Tour years before, so there is definitely an employment path for those who wish to pursue it. I’m a travel writer so I’m moving on, but wow, I’ll always remember these three days. It truly was an extraordinary bucket list experience , and if you think it sounds great as well, remember that I’m leaving out some of the coolest elements to maintain the surprise, including a very unique gift at the end. Start checking the Inside Tour website now! And let me know if you get in next year.

Summary Information

Kid Friendly:  Very! Level of Difficulty:  Easy

Airline/Routing:   United  LA-Newark-Oslo and then SAS Oslo-Billund a couple of days later. We departed on a direct Billund to Amsterdam flight on KLM a couple of hours after the LEGO Inside Tour ended.

Hotel:  LEGOLAND Hotel .   Three nights with a park-view room (basically inside the park) are included with the Inside Tour ticket. There would be no reason to want to stay anywhere else. The hotel was great and I fully trusted my son to roam the hotel without me, playing with his new friends or heading to the lobby, screening room or gift store.

Total Trip Length:  Four Days

Days of School Missed:  Zero (summer break)

Cost:   The Inside Tour the year we went cost roughly US$2,200 per person. It was worth it! That included three nights at the LEGOLAND Hotel , meals for three days, wine, LEGOLAND Billund season passes, a visit to the company store where we saved hundreds of dollars using the employee discount, all of the activities/events I mentioned above, and many, many unique gifts, including two truly priceless ones at the end. Plus it was the trip of a lifetime for a seven-year-old, and is way up there on my “coolest things ever” list as well.

*Important Note

2019: Unfortunately LEGO has changed the minimum age of the Inside Tour to 10. Pretty grinch-like if you ask me, since it was an absolutely perfect trip for seven-year-olds. By ten my son had switched from LEGO to football/soccer. They now have a one-day LEGO Fan Tour that includes a lot of the Inside Tour elements for a much less expensive price and that is still open to seven-year-olds.

The LEGO Inside Tour in Billund, Denmark was an incredibly well organized three days of LEGO fun for kids and adults alike. Here is my review.

Hi, were you allowed to buy anything there, like sets or bulk lots of certain bricks?

Hi Alec. At the employee store we were allowed to buy any sets that we wanted (but only two max of the same set) and up to 16 minifigures. I don’t remember seeing bulk lots or containers of bricks there.

Great review! I was lucky enough to go on the next tour (16-19 June) and had a very similar experience to yours. Definitely an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experience. I was wondering if you’ve received your purchase from the Lego employee shop yet and, if so, how long did it take to arrive? I’m eagerly awaiting my order and am trying to get a sense of how much longer I’ll likely need to wait 🙂

Thanks! Craig

June 30, 2015 at 8:20 pm

Hi Craig – our two boxes were delivered in Colorado June 22, so 11 days after we were at the store. Not sure where you are, but by that math you should have had yours yesterday. Hopefully you get them soon! We’re already done with the Death Star and moving on to the other sets!

I have two grandchildren, the boy has gotten every set Lego makes. However, I was wondering if they would look out of place since they are now 14 & 15.

January 26, 2016 at 8:26 am

No, they wouldn’t be out of place at all on the LEGO Inside Tour. There were only a few young kids on our tour, there were some older kids and there were a lot of adults. Everyone fit in well. As long as someone enjoys being creative with LEGO blocks, the trip is for them.

February 16, 2016 at 11:35 am

Was 7 a good age for the tour? My 7-year-old loves Legos, but I’m wondering if a special experience like this is better saved for when he is a few years older (when he might appreciate and remember it more)?

February 25, 2016 at 1:01 am

Seven was a perfect age. Kids change and move onto different passions. If you have a 7-year-old who loves LEGO, try to get onto the next tour. Even now at 8 1/2 my son is playing with LEGO bricks a lot less. Any age would have fun on the tour, but passionate fans will have the most fun.

April 1, 2016 at 4:29 pm

How much did you pay for lego in employee store? how much discount you get? I hope to go there, it seemed very fun.

April 1, 2016 at 4:36 pm

We weren’t allowed to have cameras or cell phones with us so I couldn’t check prices, but when I did rough calculations later that day the discounts were anywhere between 40% and 50%.

April 13, 2016 at 4:04 pm

Great article. I’m on the first tour this year. Leaving in less than 4 weeks. You must know how excited I am. I’ve been scouring the net for reviews and any information I can find. This was a great read. Thanks. Were there any other participants from the US on your tour? Just curious.

April 13, 2016 at 8:09 pm

Have fun! Yes, there were a few other Americans, but otherwise it was a diverse group.

May 21, 2016 at 11:50 am

Hi, I’m in the second tour in a few days so i’m very very excited !!! Can we buy more sets that the box sent by LEGO and how can we do to send them at home because that’s very interesting ? @ J : is the exclusive set great this year ? What do you think without reveal it ? Thanks. Julien.

May 22, 2016 at 7:59 am

Very cool – have fun! They’ll ship one full box per person to your home for free. You can also take things with you, up to their purchasing maximums – e.g. no more than x minifigures, two copies of any given set, etc… Then it’s up to you to figure out how to get the excess (plus the exclusive sets) home!

June 19, 2016 at 8:46 am

Is the application first-come,first-served basis? Thanks.

June 19, 2016 at 9:04 am

My assumption is that it is, however they reserve the right to not accept people who have gone on the tour before.

July 2, 2016 at 3:32 am

I’m saving this article for when our youngest boys are 7. Seems like a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Thanks for sharing!

August 2, 2016 at 5:39 pm

Tickets are available on LEGO’s website. They go on sale once a year and are gone within minutes. You’ll need to check the website after the summer to see when they will be on sale for 2017.

August 2, 2016 at 11:24 pm

It used to be first come first served, not for 2016 though. There were people on the tour that signed up days/weeks after registration was open. Some casual fans were on the tour. Many people had tried for years to get on the tour. It was also just 2 nights, same price though. Registration is usually in early November.

August 8, 2016 at 12:43 pm

Thanks for the update. That’s great if they’ve moved away from first come/first served. That made it too difficult to sign up with kids.

November 15, 2016 at 7:54 am

After 2 years of not getting in, we finally got into the tour next (2017) year! We are excited to participate in 2017! Any preparation tips? do you have any travel suggestions leading up to the trip? We will be travelling from Canada so we have the possibility to stop in Iceland, or spend a few days in Denmark?

November 15, 2016 at 10:35 am

Congratulations on getting in! I don’t have any preparation tips other than doing research in advance on the pricing of the sets that you want to purchase. We didn’t have access to cell phones during the visit to the company store, so I wasn’t able to easily compare prices.

For travel, it’s not necessary to spend time in Billund before or after the Inside Tour – there’s not much to do outside of LEGO – so you have all of Europe as an option. Check out the Billud Airport Wiki page . That lists all of the non-stop flights to/from Billund. That may give you some ideas.

This is a great review. I am so excited that my son received his wish and his Make A Wish trip will be this Lego tour in 2017. Thank you for the sneak peek. We have not received all of our information but the days are quite full. It shows out evening break but I wanted to see what type of other breaks they had(lunch, bathroom, snacks). I just like to be prepared. Thank you for taking the time for this review and your reply!

February 26, 2017 at 12:37 pm

That’s great that you got onto a tour! I honestly don’t remember the break schedule, but everything scheduled was fairly casual – even at the museum or during building competitions, we could always duck out for the bathroom or for a snack. They take care of you. All meals were scheduled/included, and I don’t remember ever getting hungry.

February 27, 2017 at 10:05 am

Awesome, thank you so much for responding! We are truly so excited and feel so blessed. I tend to over prepare sometimes just due to some of his medical needs.

February 28, 2017 at 12:42 am

Hi, I was very lucky to do the LEGO INSIDE TOUR last year and this year that will be my wife and daughter in law who are going to do it in the second session of May, when are you going Melissa ? The organisation is absolutely perfect and the staff is very professionnal and guarantee you a nice journey. So i come back this year to spend time in the LEGOLAND Park. We are very very excited !!! You can have a look on my last year review at this link on a french website : http://www.hothbricks.com/lego-inside-tour-2016-julien-y-etait-raconte/ You can easily translate, if you have any questions don’t hesitate ! October 9, 2017 at 12:14 pm

We are anxiously anticipating our LIT in a couple weeks. I have become an avid reader of your blog and I appreciate your values as it relates to luggage and the hassle/benefit it holds.

We are travelling to Copenhagen a few days before the tour and then will be attending the LIT. If you were to do it again/over what would you take as luggage? We are travelling as a family (two adults one preteen!)

October 17, 2017 at 7:55 am

Have fun on the Inside Tour! I didn’t realize that they shifted them from summer-only. That’s great.

I would say to definitely have some extra room in your luggage. The store will ship sets for you, but you’ll be receiving other things during your trip, including the exclusive sets at the end (three of them if there are three of you).

October 17, 2017 at 11:02 am

To secure the LIT set i would keep it in the cabin luggage… You’ll bring back too the model that you’ll create during the building challenge of the first evening. Many goodies too + the LEGO House visit including the 21037 set. At the employee shop that’s very interesting for the big sets : imagine the new MF 75192 half price 🙂 Let us know if the exclusive set will be the same that the previous group of this year.

November 5, 2017 at 7:51 am

Hey Julien,

We are back from the LIT 2017. Yes. The LIT set was the same as those handed out in May/June. We are very happy with the he set, but haven’t built it yet! Unfortunately the UCS Millenium Falcoln is even sold out at the employee store, although there was one at the Lego House store. Even at half price, it’s still expensive, although we were lucky enough to have dinner one night with its designers, so that would have made it easier to justify.

The LIT did not disappoint!

' src=

October 31, 2017 at 2:55 am

Can you shed any light on when it is you pay the LIT tour fee? is it straight away on the day you do the application form or within a certain number of days after being accepted?

Regards, Richard

How much is shipping for what you buy at the Lego employee discount shop from Billund to The US. If it’s 1 box for free does that mean 1 set or a shipping box that can hold multiple sets?

February 28, 2021 at 6:58 pm

It’s one large box per person for free that holds a lot of LEGO sets.

What information do I need to fill in for registration?

August 30, 2021 at 12:54 pm

If you go to the Inside Tour website, linked in the blog post, you will see that LEGO has four tours in 2022 and they go on sale on October 26, 2021. If you go to the website on that date you will see the information you need to complete.

i will have a ticket for the LIT 2022

just a question: I come by car, so can bring the lego sets i buy easily home. But after shopping in the employee-store… where do you leaf the sets you bought?

bring them back in the hotel, let them in the bus, they will bring it to you car?

July 23, 2022 at 2:02 am

Hi Harm. Have an amazing time!

Since they kept our sets to ship them to us, I cannot speak to the best way to transport your sets from the store. That’s a question for your LEGO representative.

The LEGO Inside Tour – introduction

(Written by Ernest )

As a die-hard LEGO fan, what is your ultimate wish within the LEGO hobby? Owning a very rare and limited edition LEGO set? Meeting LEGO Model Designers, or even the company’s CEO? Taking a tour of the LEGO factory where all the LEGO bricks are made? You might think that these dreams are impossible to achieve. But… what if I told you that the LEGO Inside Tour can grant you all these wishes at once? Interested? Read on! 🙂

LEGO Inside Tour

The LEGO Inside Tour is a 4-day event in Billund, Denmark, specifically designed for LEGO fans to get to know their favorite company more intimately. Here is some information directly from the LEGO Inside Tour website : “ The LEGO Inside Tour is a unique LEGO experience, which is often referred to as a ‘once in a lifetime experience’ by past participants. As a participant you are invited inside Ole Kirk Christiansen’s original house with the exciting exhibition of LEGO sets and models that can be dated all the way back to 1932. You will meet the LEGO Designers who are ready to meet you; they will introduce you to their daily work at the LEGO Group and provide you with a building experience unlike anything else. Experienced employees will guide you around the LEGO factories in Billund and specially designated employees will introduce you to their areas and any current projects. You will gain an insight into the unique culture and strong values that characterize the company. The LEGO Inside Tour also goes past the LEGO staff shop. The LEGO Inside Tour Award Show is held on Thursday afternoon, featuring the red carpet and highly-sought after prizes, and you are naturally the guest of honor. On the last day there is a guided tour behind the scenes at the LEGOLAND Park followed by a closing ceremony, at which you will received a unique gift produced in close cooperation with Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen especially for this year’s LEGO Inside Tour participants.” Here is a short video about the event:

It is interesting to note that a lot of LEGO fans never even heard of the LEGO Inside Tour , so it is kind of like an open secret. Even though few people know about the event, it has actually been around for a decade, with the 2014 LEGO Inside Tour marking its 10th anniversary. Since information about the 2015 LEGO Inside Tour schedule is going to be published  in the middle of this month, now this is the best time to bring it to your attention and talk about it. Below is the schedule of a typical LEGO Inside Tour :

  • Day 1: Arrive at Billund, Denmark
  • Day 2: Meet the LEGO Senior Staff, visit the LEGO Idea House (LEGO Headquarters), and participate in the LEGO Building Competition
  • Day 3: Visit the LEGO factory, go shopping in the LEGO Staff Shop, meet the LEGO Model Designers, announcement of the winners of the LEGO Building Competition
  • Day 4: Join the LEGOLAND Billund Backstage Guide Tour, go to the Master Builder Workshop

Next, lets discuss some of the best features of the LEGO Inside Tour , starting with getting an exclusive LEGO set, which actually happens on the last day, but is one of the highlights of the event. This set is made in very limited quantities, is quite substantial (usually 500 pieces or more), only available to participants of the event, and is something related to LEGO’s history. The box of the set is also unique with each of them individually numbered, and at the box there is a photo of your tour-group (see photo here ). This makes the set very memorable to the participants. In fact, these are some of those sets you will hardly ever find on the secondary market, as most people would never part with them. The guys from the BrickShow were lucky enough to get their hands on the LEGO Inside Tour Exclusive 2014 Edition , which is the #4000014 LEGOLAND Train (photo via Brickset.com ), based on the train at the LEGOLAND Park in Billund, Denmark. If you are interested, you can watch the review video here .

#4000014 LEGO Inside Tour Train

Another highlight of the tour is meeting the LEGO Designers, and even the CEO of the company. They share with participants of the tour about their daily work, and their personal experiences and insights. LEGO staff members also give out their “business cards”, which are minifigs with their names printed on the torsos – also very unique items that are hard to find (photo below by Eric Lumsden ).

LEGO Inside Tour Business Cards

Then there are the tours… you might have heard about the Ole Kirks House (photo below by bluemoose ), but visiting the place where the LEGO legend begins is a whole other matter. In the LEGO Inside Tour participants have a chance to explore Ole Kirks House and hear more about LEGO’s history and learn about the culture and values which makes LEGO one of the top toy brands in the globe. There is also a trip to the headquarters of the company (called the Idea House ), and to the LEGO History Museum which showcases the collection of almost all products ever made – including those wooden toys manufactured by LEGO dating back as far as 1932. And one of the most memorable events is visiting the LEGO factory, where participants can see the fully-automated process of LEGO brick-making.

LEGO Inside Tour - Ole Kirk's House

On the second day of the LEGO Inside Tour there is a LEGO building competition where each and every tour member can hand in their own LEGO models. Sometimes due to the tight schedule people have to build their models overnight, but I think it’s totally worth to enter. Participants have access to a tremendous amount of LEGO elements, and it is definitely a blast to see other contestants’ models. The competition is judged by actual LEGO Model Designers. An exquisite brick-built trophy is awarded to the winning contestant. (Photo below: Inside the LEGO Idea House by Mauricio Vives )

LEGO Inside Tour - Ideas House

Then there is also the LEGOLAND Billund Backstage Tour. Some of you might have been to a LEGOLAND Park , but I bet you have never explored the backstage of it. Participants can go behind-the-scenes and check out the technical operation of how LEGOLAND runs. In the guided tour participants are accompanied by LEGO Model Designers around the park, and afterwards there is a lot of free time to explore LEGOLAND on their own.

LEGO Inside Tour - LEGOLAND

To write this article I mainly used information from LEGO’s own website and Apple New Daily  (which is something we have here in Hong Kong). Please note that some of the info may be not entirely correct as tours from year to year can change a bit. Furthermore, I’m a TFOL (Teen-Fan-of-LEGO) and this is my first article here at theBrickBlogger, so thanks for reading! Comments and constructive criticism are more than welcome! What do you think? Are you planning to go at a LEGO Inside Tour? Have you been to one already? Feel free to share in the comment section below! 😉

I’ve never really bothered about inside tours, though I heard about it on Brickset, but this makes me seriously want to go. I think it will help me in my goal to become a Lego Designer. Too bad it’s so expensive, I’ll have to save up for 10 years to get that much. 🙁 Very nicely written article, Ernest! Your techniques keep the whole article interesting and smooth. 😉 Also: http://brickset.com/article/12209/75060-ucs-slave-i-pictures-revealed . One word: awesome! 🙂 Off-topic, but does anyone know when Ninjago will be on next in the US?

' src=

Yes, Ernest is a good writer. He churned out four articles in just a few days (I will be publishing them all in the next couple of weeks). It is nice to see young LEGO fans coming up with great articles like this. And yes, if you are planning to become a LEGO designer going on the tour coudl be an important step in the right direction. Especially since you would have to move to Billund! 🙂

As far as the Slave I, yeah, I was just looking at those gorgeous pictures this morning! And in regardst to Ninjago, I heard October, but I’m not 100% sure.

Four articles?! Wow. I haven’t even done one in three weeks. Concerning Ninjago, can I write an article about the 2015 sets once I see episodes 33 & 34? I have figured out quite a bit about them.

Sure, you can! Should be interesting. 🙂

' src=

Thank you for praising my article!!! Well, too bad you haven’t watch the last two episodes of Ninjago. They were great!

' src=

I’d love to go on the tour and I love those exclusive sets! Maybe someday. We’ll see.

Really wish I could get the instructions for that train but I would be surprised if anyone has even opened theirs.

' src=

Caperberry has.

There’s also an LDD file on this page:

https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/41226-key-topic-official-lego-sets-made-in-ldd/

Thanks, Hakan, that’s very helpful.

Awesome! Thank you!

The BrickShow has an excellent review on the set, so you can take a good look at it: http://youtu.be/owCMa2eRIxY , also, Brickset has the parts-list, so you might be able to piece it together using those two sources: http://brickset.com/inventories/4000014-1

oo. I”ll definitely take a look at that when I get home from work.

Same here; would love to go one day. I have heard that there are some people who go every year! They are obviously very rich though! 😀

' src=

Well, to be honest I was thinking that I would love to make a detailed and skillfully crafted castle out of thousands of pieces, in answer to your first question, but the tour seems awesome. I love the look of the sets they hand out, but I see no reason for anyone to sell them. I think their main value lies in the fact that they commemorate an experience. They are actually fairly simple sets, so yeah, just my opinion. (From a collectors perspective, I get that their rarity makes them wanted.) Also, off topic, but I bought a Lego Mindstorms Nxt 2.0 for seventy five dollars off on ebay, and it came today! :D. I can’t wait to get into it! (Oh, one touch sensor is missing, I was aware that it might be before buying, so I’ll. have to order one, but still not bad.)

Not sure if Lego sells separate sensors, but I’m sure you could find one on BrickLink…

Yes, they do, they’re under the Robotics section on Lego shop: http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Robotics-ByCategory (at the bottom) 😉

Actually, through some strange turn if events, when I had dumped all the bags out in a tray to get building, the second sensor was right there in the middle. The bags were sealed. Every review I had encountered showed the piece in a white box along with the other sensors.

Nice! Glad to hear you found it! 😀

I would love to get the moulding machines set from 2011! That is by far my favorite, but I have never-ever seen it on sale anywhere – as you say, hardly anyone would consider selling them. Have fun with your Mindstorms set! 😛

I signed up for the tour today. I received my confirmation at ten minutes after. My confirmation says I am on the “wait list” Does everyone go on the “wait list”??? or just once it is full?

The wait list means that the tour is full, however if there is a cancellation people on the wait list will get priority. If they can’t put you on the upcoming tour they will try to fit you in a later date. The tours usually sell out within the first 5 minutes after they go live. It is very exclusive and very popular.

Thanks so much for the reply. I was on the website right on the “release” time, but I didn’t notice the link until 5 minutes after the hour. Was anyone else on at that time? Did you see an active link? or did I just not notice it until it was too late?

I was online on the hour of the release, but I didn’t recognize the “register here” button until 5 minutes after the hour. Was anyone else online? Was it live right on the hour? did I simply overlook the link?

I’m sure a lot of people were online. As I said; the tour usually sells out within the first 5 minutes. You need to keep refreshing the page to make sure you are there when the link goes live. Since you are on the waiting list, I’m sure you will receive an email shortly with what the status of your registration is. Sometimes people cancel, so you have a good chance of getting in, especially since you are already in the system. 😉

All LEGO Inside Tour Exclusive Sets and Minifigures and Their Rarity - Part 2

24th February 2023

This article is part 2, you can read Part 1 covering 2005 - 2014

LEGO Clumsy Hans set

LEGO brought something completely different to the table at the 2015 Inside Tour. The H.C. Andersen's Clumsy Hans (4000020) set depicts a character from a short story by the famous Danish children's author Hans Christian Andersen. On the face of it, it has no connection to LEGO, so it was a strange subject to choose. The only reason for this decision I can think of is that 2015 was the book's 160th anniversary, but that's not the most significant milestone.

While the LIT exclusives are never ground-breaking sets, as can be expected from sets only available to select few, this one fell well short. LEGO were producing some great models in 2015, but this isn't one of them. It definitely has a vintage vibe about it and as a result it's one of the “least desirable" LIT exclusives.

Like in 2014, four tours were held in 2015 with 30 participants each. Each tour received the set in unique packaging printed with a photo of their tour group. Each of the four variants were numbered 1 to 80, giving a total production run of 320 . Number 1 was reportedly reserved for LEGO's vault, numbers 2-31 went to the tour participants, and numbers 32-80 went to LEGO employees.

Clumsy Hans was also given away as an exclusive to LEGOLAND Florida Ambassador pass holders in 2015, but in different packaging.

LEGO Inside Tour 2015 exclusive minifigure

The exclusive minifigure torso reverted back to the design used for the 2010 and 2011 Inside Tours. It is estimated that 320 copies of this part were also produced.

LEGO Inside Tour 2015 Bionicle Gali Mask

Attendees of the 2015 Inside Tour lucked out as, in addition to the exclusive set and minifigure, they received a bonus giveaway. This was a transparent blue Bionicle Gali Mask (biomask-1) , which was limited to 200 copies and numbered. It is assumed that the 80 leftover copies were distributed amongst LEGO employees as there is no information on other giveaways involving this set.

LEGO Truck Show set

It was back to significant vehicles for LIT exclusive in 2016 with the big yellow LEGO Truck Show (4000022) . The model is a replica of the LEGO trucks that would drive around Europe between 1996 and 2004 showing off LEGO's products. I expect it had a similar effect on children as the Coca Cola truck does in the Christmas commercials. I would love to see one driving down the motorway, but alas LEGO no longer uses them.

LEGO have released a few models of these trucks, but this is definitely the best. It features an expandable trailer section, true to the real-life vehicle, and had an exclusive sticker set that gave it some nice details. Steen Sig Andersen again designed the model which has 779 parts, none of which were unique.

Slightly more people attended the 2016 Inside Tour, as there were four tours of 35 people, meaning 140 copies went to the tour attendees. Again, each box had a picture of the tour group and were numbered from 1 to 80, giving a total production run of 320 .

LEGO Inside Tour 2016 exclusive minifigure

The design changed again for the minifigure torso giveaway, with the front featuring an LIT minifigure holding a 1x2 tile with the year of the tour. It is also estimated to have been limited 320 copies . From 2016 to 2018 the design of this torso remained the same, with just the date on the tile print changing.

LEGO Tree of Creativity set

2017 was big year for LEGO, with the opening of the LEGO House. At the centre of the buildings main staircase is the colossal Tree of Creativity, made from 6,316,611 pieces. To mark the occasion, a much scaled down version was the LIT exclusive, with a piece count of 1,008. The LEGO House Tree of Creativity (4000014) contained six minifigures, three of which were unique, which included Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, his son and 4th generation company owner Thomas Kirk Kristiansen, and a LEGO House figure.

A further slimed down Tree of Creativity was also available to buy from the LEGO House and limited to 10,000 copies.

In 2017, LEGO ran five Inside Tours, which were limited to 35 people each. Each tour group received the set in a unique box with a photo of their tour group. Each of the four set variants was numbered from 1 to 80, giving a total production run of 400 . 175 were distributed to tour participants and it's expected that the remaining sets were distributed amongst LEGO and its employees helping out with the event.

LEGO Nonnie set

The unique minifigure torso that was given out is also estimated to have been limited to 400 copies.

LEGO Ferguson Tractor set

Now it's time for my favourite LIT exclusive, the Ferguson Tractor (4000025) . This is a replica of a plastic toy (not brick built) LEGO produced in the 1950s that performed remarkably well and helped to fund their transition into plastic bricks.

The set includes 450 pieces, including two unique 1x8 printed tiles with “Ferguson" on them. Five parts were also unique from having never appeared before in grey. For the large rear tires, it's reported that LEGO had to produce some especially, because they hadn't appeared in a set since 2010 and there was no stock left.

Steen Sig Andersen did a great job as the set's designer, as it has a nice sleek look to it and great accuracy to the source material.

Just like in 2017, LEGO ran five Inside Tours in 2018, which were limited to 35 people each.

LEGO Inside Tour 2018 exclusive minifigure

The unique minifigure torso that was also given out is also estimated to have been limited to 400 copies.

LEGO LEGO System House set

In 2019, LEGO ran five Inside Tours in 2018, which were limited to 35 people each. Each tour group received the set in a unique box with a photo of their tour group. Each of the four set variants was numbered from 1 to 80, giving a total production run of 320 . 140 were distributed to tour participants and it's expected that the remaining sets were distributed amongst LEGO and its employees.

LEGO Inside Tour 2019 exclusive minifigure

An exclusive LIT minifigure torso was once again given out is also estimated to have also been limited to 320 copies . The design changed subtly from the previous three years, with the tile print on the torso filled with white instead of red.

LEGO Factory AGV set

After a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Inside Tour returned in 2022. The LEGO Factory AGV (4000037) was the exclusive set. For those not in the know, AVG stands for Automated Guided Vehicles which move around the factory floor using magnets and laser sensors, transporting boxes of LEGO parts. Each AGV moves 7.1 tonnes of LEGO a day unassisted.

The set was designed by Stuart Harris and depicts an AVG placing a lid on full boxes moving on a conveyor belt next to the filling machine.

In 2022, LEGO were back to running four Inside Tours each with 35 participants. Each tour group received the set in a unique box with a photo of their tour group. Each set variant was number from 1 to 80, with a total of 140 being distributed to tour participants. The remaining sets were distributed to LEGO employees helping with the event and it's assumed that four went to the LEGO vault. This gives a total production run of 320.

LEGO Inside Tour 2022 exclusive minifigure

The design for the exclusive LIT minifigure torso got a bigger overhaul in 2022. The front print remained the same as 2019, except for a date change, but the back printing featured the iconic LEGO duck, the company's most famous wooden toy. It also features the exact tour dates, meaning the torso pieces were unique to each tour group. It is estimated that 80 copies of each torso were made , based on the production run of the LEGO Factory AGV.

While in this article we have only listed sets and minifigures made exclusively for the Inside Tour, tour participants receive other giveaways that are not necessarily reserved solely for them. This includes printed tiles, employee business card minifigures, factory minifigures, LEGO House exclusive sets, mini-builds, and brick-built trophies as prizes for the tour's building competition.

Many people have often criticised the cost of the LEGO Inside Tour, with the 2023 edition costing close to $3,000. This certainly puts it out of reach for many LEGO fans, but if you can afford it, you can easily cover your costs from selling the exclusives, and perhaps make a profit. As demand for the event has grown, LEGO have introduced an application process to try and diversify the attendees, so even if you can afford it, it might take several years for you to get on.

Inside Tim Robinson’s ‘I Think You Should Leave’ Tour: Unaired Sketches, Paul Rudd and Why Patrick Stewart Turned Down a Role

I Think You Should Leave

SPOILER ALERT: This story contains minor spoilers of Tim Robinson ‘s “ I Think You Should Leave ” live show, including general descriptions of unaired sketches .

“I Think You Should Leave” went live Tuesday, April 2, when creators Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin brought their beloved Netflix sketch comedy series to the stage at New York’s Beacon Theatre.

Nearly 3,000 fans showed up for the mysterious, sold-out show, many of them revealing their allegiance to the comedy cult with Dan Flashes button-downs and Corncob TV tees — if you know, you know — and yelling out lines from “I Think You Should Leave” that have been immortalized in gifs and memes.

Brooks Wheelan, who overlapped with Robinson and Kanin during their time on “Saturday Night Live,” opened the show with five minutes of stand-up before a giant screen began playing an extended version of “Has This Ever Happened to You?,” a sketch from the first episode of “I Think You Should Leave,” in which Robinson plays a low-tier attorney advertising to people who have been bizarrely wronged by a pair of exterminators.

Then, to much fanfare, Robinson and Kanin took the stage, which was designed like a living room, and explained the format of the night. They would bring out special guests to watch sketches that were scrapped from the series and determine whether they should have made the cut. Spoiler alert: every sketch was met with a baffled, unanimous: “Why didn’t you put that in?” Oh, and there was also a bird mascot named Tori, who would prance onstage and harass them every half hour.

It’s a classic “I Think You Should Leave” sketch reminiscent of “Job Interview,” in which Robinson goes to great lengths to prove a push door actually goes both ways. The audience went wild for “Done Deal,” and Richardson’s verdict was: “It should have been in the program.”

The next guest was Seth Meyers, who jokingly assured Robinson and Kanin that he fought hard for their ideas as head writer of “SNL” before ribbing them about a “Jurassic Park” sketch they pitched, which “would have been great for 1993.” Then they screened the next unaired sketch, which was ironically not the only one of the night that involved dinosaurs. “Dino Talk” is honestly hard to explain, but it involves a strange man attending a lecture while playing mind games with the random people seated next to him, played by Kanin and “The Bear” star Lionel Boyce.

Meyers said of the sketch, “There’s a lot I like,” and pointed out that the reason they probably didn’t include it in the show is because, like “Focus Group,” it includes a guy with an unplaceable accent messing with Kanin. Robinson said they initially offered the main part to Sir Patrick Stewart, but he didn’t understand the concept and passed. “He’s dead to me,” joked Robinson.

Patti Harrison, another recurring favorite on “I Think You Should Leave,” came out next to discuss “Movie Set,” in which Robinson and Richardson play bickering background extras on the set of a horror movie. Robinson’s job is to deliver a burger to Richardson, who makes a bold creative choice to do a “stinky” gesture when handed the food in each take. This, obviously, really upsets Robinson, and the pair begin arguing through their teeth.

Robinson’s rationale for not putting “Movie Set” in the series was that it’s “too hard to understand,” to which Meyers laughed: “You have literally the most challenging sketch show ever made. Your audience will follow you anywhere.”

The next guest was Bruce Buckles, whom Robinson introduced as a random improv student in New York trying to break into the business. He said he is the founder of a new improv company called Buckle Up Comedy, which doesn’t yet have a physical space. As the night went on, Buckles fawned over the onstage talent and backhandedly praised Meyers as one of the “Top 3 Weekend Update hosts.”

His addition seemed appropriately bizarre, dosing the audience with a fair amount of uncomfortable laughter. But it turns out — and I’m sorry to shatter the illusion — that Buckles is just a character played by comedic actor-writer Brendan Jennings. I know this because his performance was so believable that after the show I had to research whether Buckles was real.

Of the remaining unaired sketches, there was “Event Space Walkthrough,” in which Robinson must fake a phone call but has no idea how to; “Dino Guy,” which casts Robinson as a paleo-enthusiast who goes to war against a little kid playing with toy dinosaurs; and “Barney’s,” which stars Biff Wiff as a disgruntled diner owner who, in order to drum up business, renames menu items to stuff like “Big Bra Water” and “Eyes Roll Back in My Head Blowjob Burger.” (Robinson said that last one didn’t make the cut because “the jokes seemed too obvious.” The audience disagreed.)

Guest after guest praised each sketch, and Robinson and Kanin hilariously failed to come up with a single good reason why they were cut from the show. As laughter roared from the balconies, you could almost sense a slight tinge of regret on the co-creators’ faces.

Still, exhibiting unseen sketches in front of an audience with celebrities providing live commentary — rather than, say, throwing them up on YouTube — is pretty genius. By letting us peek into the “I Think You Should Leave” vault, Robinson and Kanin deepen the show’s lore, building the comedy equivalent of B-sides and rarities. It won’t be long before die-hard fans declare their favorite sketch as the extended cut of “Has This Ever Happened to You?” — or the second unreleased one about dinosaurs. And it’s only a matter of time before bootleg iPhone videos of the sketches trickle onto Reddit and Twitter, and the jokes rot fans’ vocabularies.

Before the night ended, Robinson and Kanin screened an extended version of “He Layeth on High,” starring the late Fred Willard as a funeral organist, plus a clip from an unreleased sketch about a dance competition show that eliminates contestants who check their pockets to make sure their wallets haven’t fallen out. Wrapping up with the help of comedian and musician Whitmer Thomas, Robinson led the Beacon in a karaoke singalong to the fan-favorite power ballad “Friday Night.”

It’s curious that “I Think You Should Leave” has yet to be renewed for a fourth season by Netflix. Given the show’s low budget and treasure trove of unreleased material, Ted Sarandos should be begging Robinson and Kanin for more episodes — and maybe he is! But the day of the live show, it was announced that the comedy duo landed an HBO pilot order for their series “The Chair Company,” about a man who finds himself investigating a far-reaching conspiracy at work, and a couple of years ago they sold another pilot to the network called “Computer School.”

Robinson and Kanin are busy, and they may or may not choose to return to the world of “I Think You Should Leave.” But if the live tour proves anything, it’s that there are legions of fans clamoring for more sketches, and that even the leftovers knock it out of the park.

One of the oldest hotels in Hong Kong is the definition of luxury. 13 photos offer a glimpse inside Art Basel's hotel partner, The Peninsula.

  • The Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong, an iconic property that opened in 1928, offers a luxury experience.
  • The hotel boasts nine restaurants, a spa, a mall featuring high-end brands, and over 50 suites.
  • The Peninsula also offers unique experiences like the Art in Resonance program and a helicopter pad used by celebrities.

Insider Today

Steps away from the glistening Victoria Harbour sits the Peninsula Hotel.

The flagship hotel in the Peninsula Hotels group, which boasts properties worldwide, opened in December 1928, making it one of the oldest hotels in Hong Kong. The original building only housed six floors and was the tallest building in the city when it was built.

Now, the hotel has a 30-story tower, more than 50 hotel suites, nine restaurants and lounges, a spa, and what they call a "shopping arcade," or an intimate mall featuring Chanel, Harry Winston, and other luxury brands.

The iconic hotel, one of the official hotel partners of Art Basel Hong Kong , sponsored by the global lead partner UBS, is nestled right on the Kowloon Peninsula in Tsim Sha Tsui. Thanks to their Art in Resonance program, it's also home to four memorable art pieces featuring "emerging and mid-career" artists. I toured the 5-star hotel and saw exactly why the Peninsula provides the best in hospitality and accommodations, from the hotel's helicopter pad, which has welcomed Bon Jovi and Tom Cruise, to the gym that Madonna specially requested be outfitted in the hotel's biggest suite.

When you first walk up to the hotel, you're greeted by an art installation in the hotel's signature green.

legoland inside tour

Kingsley Ng, a visual artist based in Hong Kong, was the creator behind the art installation affixed to the hotel's exterior. During Art Basel, "Esmerelda," as it's titled, was unveiled revealing a sky-high art moment that mimics water waves.

You're also greeted by a fleet of Rolls-Royce cars.

legoland inside tour

Before you enter the hotel, guests know they'll be treated to a luxury experience thanks to the Rolls-Royce fleet parked outside. The hotel has 14 Rolls-Royce Extended Wheelbase Phantoms on hand for guests to use.

Every car is in the hotel's signature green with a peanut butter leather and wood paneling interior.

The cars are facing two stone Chinese lions, placed outside the hotel for protection, according to Kylie Cheung, the hotel's assistant director of communications.

There's also a vintage Rolls-Royce tucked away in the hotel's basement.

legoland inside tour

Housed in the garage is the hotel's most precious member of the fleet, a 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II , a tailor-made car that belongs to the Kadoorie family. The family owns the Peninsula Hotel Group along with China Light and Power, an electricity company servicing most of Hong Kong.

The car, built in antique fashion, is preserved beautifully. I got a chance to sit inside the car, to feel the buttered leather under my hands. There's even a rotary telephone inside the vehicle, a call back to an earlier time before cellular phones and devices.

The hotel lobby is lavish. It features tall white columns with 76 hand-painted gargoyles on top.

legoland inside tour

Walking inside the hotel, you're met with two sides, both for dining.

The hotel's communications director told Business Insider that the middle of the lobby was previously used as a dance floor and that men and women would sit separately on two sides "so as not to cause embarrassment."

Today, the lobby is the place for the hotel's famous afternoon tea , held from 2-6 p.m. local time for a minimum cost of $350 Hong Kong dollars, or around $44. The all-day menu features an assortment of salads, pastas, sandwiches, and what they call "Asian specialties."

The lobby also houses an art installation by French artist Elise Morin. The art dune-shaped piece, titled "SOLI," comprises broken CDs, a nod to the piece's sustainable message.

The 300-room hotel has over 50 suites, including its finest, the Presidential Suite.

legoland inside tour

BI toured two of the hotel's suites, including the 4,000-square-foot Presidential Suite that's welcomed presidents, billionaires, and business leaders, according to Cheung.

The room, number 2608, is the picture of opulence thanks to marble floors, an executive dining table, a piano, and custom-made furniture.

Walking in, you're greeted by artwork, a 2011 wooden sculpture by Sun Yi titled "Dancer II." To the left is a media room where guests can relax and enjoy a movie.

If you'd rather look at the Harbour, floor-to-ceiling windows and a terrace offer the perfect unobstructed view.

A gym, specially requested by Madonna, sits in one of the suite's rooms.

legoland inside tour

As you move through the suite's dining room, if you walk too fast, you might miss the hidden full-sized kitchen, which features Miele appliances, a wine fridge, and an espresso machine .

Along with a bedroom comes a his-and-hers closet and bathroom. There's also a gym, the brainchild of Madonna. Yes, that Madonna.

When she stayed at The Peninsula, she didn't want to go downstairs to the gym, Cheung told BI, with the other hotel guests, and requested a gym be built inside the suite for her. It's stayed there ever since.

The cost for the entire suite? A mere $234,000 HKD or around $29,900 per night.

A smaller suite, costing about $2,000 per night, includes a spacious vanity area and closet.

legoland inside tour

If that price tag gave you a bit of sticker shock, don't worry. There are plenty of smaller, more affordable suites that aren't as grandiose as the Presidential Suite but are elegant all the same.

One of the smaller suites I saw included a dining room table, a living room with a faux fireplace, and a sitting area in the bedroom, along with a roomy closet and vanity area. The room even came with a nail dryer in case you need an impromptu manicure.

Outside The Verandah, a buffet-style restaurant, sits another art installation.

legoland inside tour

Lachlan Turczan, a native of Los Angeles, created one of my favorite art pieces with his water sculpture titled "Harmonic Resonance."

This kinetic sculpture moves water , thanks to submersible low-frequency vibrations.

When staring at the drum, I felt a sense of calm, feeling the remnants of the vibration through my feet. Looking at the sculpture reminded me that every cause has an effect.

A tucked-away music room also serves as the hotel's archive.

legoland inside tour

With such a history, the Peninsula Hotel also houses an archive of its achievements. It also serves as a soundproof room for the many musicians who've stayed at the hotel.

The hotel houses nine restaurants and lounges, featuring different cuisines.

legoland inside tour

Dining is one of the best aspects of staying at the Peninsula Hotel. The hotel boasts nine restaurants and lounges with two restaurants earning a Michelin star.

A Swiss chalet inspired Chesa, a manager told Business Insider. In fact, the entire interior of the restaurants was flown in from Switzerland.

There's also Spring Moon, which has earned a Michelin star and features Cantonese on its menu, a Japanese-inspired restaurant named Imasa, and Felix, which boasts "Contemporary European" cuisine, according to the hotel's website.

There are also two lounges, The Bar, and The Lobby, which I previously mentioned, and The Peninsula Boutique & Café that serves coffees and delicate pastries.

There's a reason Gaddi's has a Michelin star.

legoland inside tour

Business Insider tried a six-course meal at the French restaurant Gaddi's, led by Chef Albin Gobil. He recently earned a Michelin star, and it's easy to see why.

He's clearly a thoughtful artist who doesn't skip any detail regarding presentation. He also served a foie gras that was my best this year.

The experience is complemented by a dining room featuring chandeliers and textiles from the Ming dynasty, part of the private Kadoori family collection.

While shopping in the arcade, don't miss Saya Woolfalk's art installation.

legoland inside tour

It's a "visionary reality portal," according to on-site materials, created by two kaleidoscope videos, 3D animation, live action, and hand-painted paper. The installation is meant to mimic the stained glass of churches.

Guests can skip Hong Kong traffic by landing at the hotel's private helipad.

legoland inside tour

Before walking out to the hotel's helipad, guests are treated to a small museum documenting the history of the China Clipper. The first plane, which could only go up about 10,000 feet in the air, lasted 10 years starting in 1935.

It's an area used for private dining and for going over safety precautions for anyone about to board the hotel's helicopter. And a few famous faces, including Tom Cruise and Bon Jovi, have walked this corridor since a helicopter is only an 18-minute ride from the city's airport, operator Paul Leigh, who's worked at the hotel for 30 years in various capacities, told Business Insider.

For any Batman fans, you might recognize the helipad from a 10-second shot in Christopher Nolan's 2008 film, "The Dark Knight," starring Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader and the late Heath Ledger as Joker.

Today, the hotel's helicopter is also used for many proposals. Leigh told BI he's never seen anyone say no to a proposal in the sky.

Future of education in Worcester: A look inside the new Doherty High School

legoland inside tour

WORCESTER ― The first day of school at the new Doherty Memorial High School gets closer by the day. The construction began in 2021, and the school opens this fall for the 2024-25 school year.

On Friday, Mayor Joseph Petty and Superintendent Rachel Monárrez hosted a tour of the new $316 million high school.

More: School project: Roam the halls of Worcester's under-construction Doherty High (by drone)

The new school is 420,000 square feet, designed for an enrollment of 1,670 students.

"We're trying to keep families in the city. We don't want to lose people," Petty said. "We have to compete with surrounding towns' high schools."

New, improved spaces for learning

While it is still in its final phase of construction, the school's interior features a new auditorium and rooms specifically designed for Doherty's Chapter 74 programs, including construction craft labor, robotics, engineering and 3D printing.

"Basically, (students) can go to any of these shops and create whatever it is they need to for class," said Christina Bazelmans, associate principal at the architecture firm Lamoureux Pagano Associates. "They're all interconnected, so you can go in between each of them and create one project using all of these different engineering traits."

The school theater will seat around 800 students, about half the student population.

Along with the theater are rooms like the black box theater, which will be used to teach students about stage lighting.

Bazelmans said the new school gives students 21st-century learning models.

"It provides more technology, more flexibility and more space," Bazelmans said. "They're expanding the engineering and technology program, which brings more opportunities for technical education for students, which is awesome. Worcester Technical has a huge waitlist, which is awesome, but we obviously need to get that type of education to more kids."

Every classroom at Doherty has chilled beam cabinets, which provide cooling using induced airflow without the noise of a typical HVAC system. Each classroom also has "speech reinforcement," a speaker on the ceilings that allows teachers using a microphone to communicate with students.

"This allows teachers to use their normal voice to get students' attention. It pipes their voice through that speaker and everybody in the class can hear it," Bazelmans said.

Petty said the new amenities in the high school allow for more learning opportunities for students.

"I think it'll have a pretty big impact on students," Petty said. "It's a great project. I'm proud, and the superintendent is proud of this building."
