Learn more about Jordan

Culture and customs.

As a Muslim country, Jordan’s culture is quite conservative, although not as conservative as some other Middle Eastern countries. Western influences (particularly in Amman and other large cities) have infiltrated Jordanian society so Jordan now possesses a mix of Arabian customs amid modern ways of life. Due to immigration, Jordan now has a significant Palestinian and Iraqi population, adding to the cultural diversity of the country.

Despite the outside influences, Islamic traditions are strong in Jordan with spectacular mosques signaling the call to prayer five times a day, Ramadan being observed each year and some segregation of the sexes occurring.

The desert-dwelling Bedouin have a distinct culture of their own, drawing on traditions that have been passed down for centuries. Living a largely nomadic lifestyle, the Bedouin rely on the herding of animals and the creation of handicrafts in the absence of a fertile environment to farm. With a strong musical heritage, traditional instruments are played and time-honored traditions are continued.

Hospitality is a crucial element of Jordanian culture. Most visitors will be humbled by the kindness, sincerity and genuine care showed by Jordanians. Being welcomed into peoples’ homes is common, and can probably be attributed to the custom of welcoming strangers and sharing food when traveling in the unforgiving desert.

Eating and drinking

Intrepid believes that one of the best ways to experience a country is by eating! Whether you're sampling street food, savoring a cheap eat or indulging in a banquet, there are endless options to choose from wherever you are in the world.

Featuring typical Middle Eastern ingredients like lamb, chickpeas, garlic and a range of aromatic herbs and spices, Jordanian cuisine is delicious.

Things to try in Jordan

Like many other Middle Eastern countries, a plate of shared breads and dips is a great way to begin a feast.

This traditional Bedouin dish of lamb and yogurt is usually served with rice and bread. This is the national dish of Jordan, so definitely try it before you leave.

These small, sweet pastries made with honey and nuts will have you going back for more.

The coffee in Jordan is strong. Often spiced with a hint of cardamom, coffee is strongly linked to the famed Jordanian hospitality, so drink up – it would be rude not to!

Geography and environment

Jordan is made up of a staggeringly diverse range of natural environments. From stark deserts to towering mountains, fertile wetlands, coastal reefs and urban cities, journeying through Jordan provides changing scenery and varying conditions.

Sharing borders with Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Israel and the Palestinian Territories, Jordan mixes modern architecture with heritage-filled buildings, well-manicured streets with historic alleyways and impressive mansions with simple homes.

Modern, developed cities like Amman and Aqaba feature unique architecture, spectacular mosques, five-star hotels and resorts. Small villages with rustic housing populate the less-built-up rural areas and Bedouin tents made of goat hair can be found in desert areas.

History and government

Early history.

The country now known as Jordan was originally inhabited by the Nabataeans thousands of years ago. Over the centuries, Jordan has been a place conquered and inhabited by many different people including the Romans, Greeks, Assyrians, Ottoman Turks, Egyptians and Mamluks (people of Kurdish origins). All these influences can still be seen today in Jordan's ancient ruins, architecture, crafts and arts. Many battles were fought in Ancient Jordan, including the Christian crusaders who clashed with Islamic Forces in Jordan during the 11th and 12th centuries. The first Muslim Dynasty began with the Umayyad Empire in 661.

Recent history

In 1950, Jordan was renamed the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and in 1951, King Abdullah I was assassinated while visiting a mosque. His eldest son became king but was removed from his duties in 1952 due to mental illness. In 1953, his teenage son Hussein Ibn Talal became king, and continued to rule for over 40 years. In the 1960s, Jordan saw many immigrants arrive and settle – mainly Palestinians escaping the conflict in their homeland.

In 1999, King Abdullah II succeeded his father King Hussein and continues to rule Jordan now. His reign has been characterized by liberal policies, economic reforms and technological advances. His wife, Queen Rania of Jordan, has a visible public profile, is active in many social causes and is regarded internationally as a highly influential woman.

Visas are required by all visitors entering Jordan.

It can be significantly more expensive to acquire your visa from the embassy in your home country.

If you require a stay longer than 14 days, visas obtained from the embassy in your home country will be valid for two months.

When is the best time to visit Jordan?

The weather in Jordan can get quite extreme. Overall, it tends to be hot during the day and cold at night (in desert areas, expect it to be extremely hot during the day and freezing at night). Yet during winter it can get bitterly cold, with snowfall occurring in some parts of the country.

Traveling during the summer months (June, July and August) can be challenging for those not accustomed to the heat, so visiting Jordan during spring and autumn is recommended for those who wish to escape the hotter temperatures.

Is tipping customary in Jordan?

As a Muslim country, Jordan’s culture is quite conservative, although not as conservative as some other Middle Eastern countries. Homosexuality has been decriminalized in Jordan since 1951, and while Jordanians who identify as having an LGBTQIA+ identity will not be criminalized, many people continue to hide their sexuality or identity from their families, and there is still a deep social stigma. As long as LGBTQIA+ travelers display some discretion and respect for local culture, particularly when visiting places outside of the major cities and tourist areas, they will have no problem visiting Jordan.

Jordan - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

Holidays to Jordan will be incomplete without a visit to Petra

Located at the crossroads of Asia , Africa , and Europe , Jordan is a representation of all of the intersections that occur in that crossroads. Once home to Romans and Ottomans, holidays to Jordan will bring you its rich history and culture filled with color, heart, and vibrancy. Bordered by Iraq, Iran , Saudi Arabia, and Israel , a trip to Jordan has something for all travel bugs.

Tour Highlights

  • Visit the ancient Nabataean city of Petra, and go back in time to when things were a little simpler; if that’s not enough, it’s a modern Wonder of the World.
  • Experience the viciously natural cycle of Wadi Rum, a desert that is a day away from Aqaba and Petra.
  • Swim with the fishes in the Red Sea.
  • See wildlife and scenery that is ancient while remaining timeless at the Dana Biosphere Reserve.
  • Live in the dichotomy of the city of Amman ; urbane and modern in the West, and earthy and ancient in the East.

Travel Tips

  • Other than covering yourself appropriately — men with legs covered and women with arms, legs, and hair covered —there aren’t many customs that you need to worry about.
  • It is a very safe place to be; none of the revolts or riots have spilled over from its neighbors. However, being a tourist, one needs to follow the usual safety precautions.
  • Bring good walking shoes and breathable clothing; it’s hot and you’re going to be doing a lot of walking.
  • Water is safe to drink, although it is heavily chlorinated so it might taste bad; just to be safe, stick with bottled water and pasteurized milk.
  • Be aware of your sun limits; the sun is brutal and you could get badly sunburnt, or worse, pass out from heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
  • If you need it, healthcare in Jordan is generally good, and there are hospitals in big cities and clinics in smaller villages.

Jordan has seasonal weather so please do check up on best time to visit Jordan before planning your tour. If you’re still hunting for more things to do and places to explore in Jordan, do check out our Jordan Travel Guide for more information.

Jordan tours — Top destinations to visit

  • Unveil the hidden jewel of Amman:  Discover the traditional and conservative energy of Jordan's hilly capital, which is home to world-class museums, labyrinthine souks, and beautiful Islamic architecture. Amman is a charming, underrated travel destination that can introduce you to Jordan’s rich heritage. Visit the Jordan Archeological Museum and the city's Citadel. Visit the Royal Automobile Museum nearby the Roman Theater, or the Jordan Museum to learn more about the country’s past. Then, escape Amman's chaotic traffic and unwind on Rainbow Street before exploring the city's vibrant nightlife.
  • Travel back in time to Petra:  Petra, also known as the "Rose City," thrives with its multicolored sandstone and authentic Nabatean architecture in the windswept landscape of southern Jordan. The city draws lots of hikers, nature lovers, and, of course, those seeking an escape from the hectic modern lifestyle. From the Obelisk Tomb and Bab AL-Siq Tricilinium, begin your 1200-meter journey and pause at the Al-Khazneh Treasury, then continue your hike along the Wadi Farusa trail while marveling at the royal tombs and admiring the Treasury from the Jebel Al-Khubtha Trail. You can also visit Colonnaded Street, the Great Temple, the Petra Churches, and Little Petra while on a tour of Petra .
  • Enjoy a rejuvenating dip in the Dead Sea:  The Dead Sea, which borders Jordan and Israel, is 67 kilometers long and 18 kilometers wide, boasting a stunning location. At this exceptional location, you can enjoy relaxing activities like soaking in thermal hot springs, thrilling hike-swims, and much more, in addition to simply relaxing in the water. Unwind in the waters of the lowest point on Earth while enjoying therapeutic spa services that have a distinct Dead Sea feel. On a wet hike, visit the ruins of Mukawir and explore the Wadi Mujib canyon. Visit Lot's Cave Monastery and Sodom and Gomorrah on the way to the Lisan Peninsula. And do not forget to take a dip in the Hammamat Ma'in Thermal Springs and sit on a ridge to admire the expansive Dead Sea panorama.
  • Follow the steps of Jesus Christ at Holy Land:  A revitalizing Holy Land tour not only satisfies your spiritual aspirations and curiosities but also allows you to experience its historical significance. A trip to the Holy Land is not complete without going to the Great Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Visit Mount Nebo, where Moses could see Canaan, and rediscover Bethany Beyond the Jordan, where Jesus was baptized. Swing by Jabar Mar-Elias, the site of Elijah's ascension, or take the Jordan Trail past the ruins of Gadara, the site of the Gadarene swine miracle. If you really want to get lost in the stories of the Bible, head to Jordan and stay in Amman, Jerash, Tel Mar Elias, or Pella.
  • Discover the thrilling adventures of Wadi Rum:  In southern Jordan, near the Saudi Arabian border, this 74,200-hectare reserve flourishes as a mixed cultural and natural site. Explore Wadi Rum and its narrow gorges, ramps, natural arches, massive landslides and caverns, and towering cliffs are evidence of millions of years of landscape evolution. Camel rides, hikes, 4WD rides, camping, and a variety of other exciting activities are available among these shifting desert landscapes. While camping in Wadi Rum, you can stargaze and watch the landscape change throughout the night. Climb the beautiful Little Bridge or Burdah rock bridge for a breathtaking view of the desert. Hike through the canyon of Abu Khashaba and eat a traditional Bedouin lunch. Sandboarding on the Al Hasany dunes is a must-do activity.
  • Tick off the highlights in Madaba: Visit Madaba , a friendly market town, that is known for its collection of Byzantine-era mosaics and has one of Jordan's largest Christian populations. This vibrantly colored city encompasses numerous attractions through its historical sites and offers a hearty Jordanian experience. Visit St. George's Church to see the amazing Mosaic map and the Church of Apostles to see the inscribed figures of 12 apostles. View the entire city and the Jordan River from the top of Mount Nebo, or visit Carpet City for the best quality and most beautiful carpets. And if you happen to be in Madaba on a Friday, you will be able to witness the town's long tradition of joyfully and loudly expressing its religious tolerance at dawn.

Most foreign visitors need a visa to enter Jordan, although some nationalities can apply for a visa on arrival. We advise that you research Jordan’s visa requirements for your country before making travel arrangements.

Even though the official language of Jordan is Arabic, English is widely spoken in the country. Besides Arabic, English and a number of minority languages, you can also find French and German-speaking people in Jordan.

March to May are the busiest tourist months to visit Jordan. September to February is also ideal for travel due to the generally good weather, except for the biting cold nights in the desert areas. It is not advised to travel to Jordan between June and August unless you are prepared to deal with intense heat. However, the  best time to visit Jordan  is between March and May, when the weather is perfect, even when you want to travel to the desert.

Jordan Tours | The Best Guide to Choosing the Right Jordan Tour for You

There are so many different Jordan tours available from several big name tour operators that it can be hard to decide which one is the best for you. Then you throw in local tour operators in Jordan and you have even more choices. Some Jordan tours cater to families, while others are designed for young people or backpacker budget travellers and some offer luxury private itineraries and completely custom options.

After reading countless bad itinerary ideas, from both tour operators and from people who plan to see the country independently, I put together this guide to help travel planners with their Jordan tour options

Since, booking a Jordan holiday package is once-in-a-lifetime experience where you will visit Petra, Jerash, Amman, Madaba, Mount Nebo, Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea aI compared some of the big names in the travel tours industry, as well as some local options and how to book the best private tours if you want to go that route.

What you want to know about booking a Tour to Jordan?

I have been helping a friend plan a trip to Jordan and there are SOOOOOO many questions to ask, sooooo many tours out there and when it is a country that you have not been to before, SOOOOO much confusion.

Here are a few things you should keep in mind when you are planning on booking a tour in Jordan

1. What is included in the Jordan Tour?

Do you have to make your way to the hotel before the tour commences?

Are you met on arrival at the airport and have a transfer to your hotel for the tour to begin?

2. Is your Visa included in the Jordan vacation packages?

Most tours that meet you at the airport will include the visa in the price of the tour. But if you do not have a transfer and have to make your own way to the start point, you will probably have to buy your own visa (which for me and many others, is 40 JD). You can get cash at the ATM inside Queen Alia International Airport BEFORE you get to the immigration desk, so do not worry about arriving with cash. You can also pay by credit card. You also will need to get transportation to Amman which is about 45 minutes away.

3. Are site entrance fees included on your Jordan tour and what options excursions are available?

Your tour itinerary should list everything that is included in your tour. Things like Petra entrance fees, the Citadel and Jerash, are all common things that will be included in your tour. But have a read of the optional excursions. Things like Snorkelling in Aqaba, Petra by Night and Camel Rides in Wadi Rum are usually optional and cost extra should you wish to partake in these activities.

4. What are you expected to pay out of pocket during your Jordan tour?

This is a big one and revolves around tips and meals. Jordan is a country that relies on tips. Whether it is your driver, your guide, breakfast staff, housekeeping or the bellboy getting your luggage out of the car or off the bus, they rely on tips to supplement the low wages in the country. Some large group tours will collect a tips kitty on arrival to distribute tips to some of those who provide services during your stay (such as bellboys and restaurant staff) but generally, you will still be expected to tip your tour guide and driver.

TIPPING GUIDE

Guide USD3-5 per person per day for larger group tours over 10 people

Private Guided Tour USD50 per day (1-4 people)

Driver USD2-3 per person per day for larger group tours over 10 people

Private Driver USD20 per day (1-4 people)

Housekeeping USD1-2 per room per night

Buffet Breakfast USD1-2 per person/couple/family

Bellboy USD1 per piece of luggage

Horses at Petra USD3-4 per person per horse (This is not for donkeys in the site. Pay the negotiated price for the donkey).

Camels In Wadi Rum USD3-5 per camel or ask your tour guide for advice, the price you pay for the camel may include a tip

Jeep Tour drivers USD 3-5 per vehicle

Taxi Drivers Round up to the nearest Dinar.

Washroom attendants 1 USD

5. How is the Jordan Itinerary?

Some Itineraries are terrible (in my opinion) as I have been there several times and know what I liked best and how long it takes to get from one place to the other. But my opinion may be different than yours and time and budget often comes into play. Make sure the hi-lights that you want to see are included and you have sufficient time to see the places you want to.

For example, you CAN see Petra and Wadi Rum in ONE day. I have done it, on my first guided tour in Jordan. BUT it was a rush in Petra and we did not get to do things like the hike to the Monastery or to the Lookout above the Treasury on al Khubtha Trail. BUT, if you are doing a fast tour, you still SAW Petra. Many tours only come for 3 days and try to jam pack everything into a visit. But for me, the perfect tour of Jordan for a first-time visitor would be about 10 days.

Because there is so much that goes into choosing the perfect tour, I have come up with some packages that I think offer good value, good itineraries or other factors that travlers look for. These Itineraries are varied and appeal to a wide range of visitors to Jordan. Check out each one below, I am happy to answer any questions you have about any of these tours.

6. What is the Size of the Group?

If the thought of a big tour bus makes you turned right off tours, then keep in mind the max group size of these tours below. Up to 6 people fit into a Van in Jordan and then there are different sizes coaches for different sized groups.

If you are interested in a private small group tour, check out this post about Jordan private tours and guides.

G adventures Classic Jordan 8 Days (3 nights in Jordan)

Although I have never taken a G Adventures tour, everyone that I know who has, has nothing but rave reviews! G Adventures prides itself on using local hotels and services that directly benefot those who call Jordan home. This tour is one of their highest rated with 100% of the services being locally run. Whether it is the hotel, the guide or the local team on the ground, they are all Jordanians living and working in the country.

What you will not see on a G Adventures Tour in Jordan is 5 Star household named hotels such as the Marriott or Intercontinental. This also means that you are most likely staying in mid-range accommodations.

I like that this tour gives you an overnight in a bedouin camp in Wadi Rum and plenty of time to see the highlights of Jordan. Their max group size is 15 and their departures are guaranteed, even if it does not sell out. Singles do not pay more to travel on G Adventures tours but will be paired up with another same-sex solo traveller. If you want your own room on this tour, there is an optional single supplement.

I do not like that you are responsible for getting to Jordan and getting to the start point on this tour. This means you need to pay for your visa (JD40) and get to the hotel. BUT it does offer the opportunity to come earlier and explore on your own, or come over from Israel by land before the tour starts.

Experience Jordan Trekking Dana to Petra (8 nights)

Much of this tour is spent trekking one of the best trails in the world. It is probably the most popular section of the Jordan trail and popular among hikers. You will spend 4 days hiking and camping before arriving into Petra and then finishing at the Dead Sea. This tour does not see a lot of Jordan, but you get the main highlights of Petra, Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea. It is designed for active people who want to get their boots dirty and hike.

I personally love the outdoors and this is a great itinerary for those who want to do some hiking in Jordan. The Dana to Petra trail is mostly unmarked so having Experience Jordan put it together for you makes it much easier.

Experience Jordan is a well known tour operator in Jordan and are known for great trips. This group has a max of 14 and is for adults 18 and up. I like that this tour offers airport pick up and drop off.

** Check the full Itinerary and dates by clicking here.**

Jordan and Egypt with G Adventures 15 days (8 nights in Jordan)

This tour is an extension of the 8 day itinerary above. It is great for those who have more time and want to see more of the Middle East. It balances Egypt and Jordan well with a week in each country and hits the big sites. if you have time to see both Jordan and Egypt and love the G Adventures brand, or are keen to try it out for the first time, this is a great option to see both the Pyramids and Petra!

(I have a post coming soon about choosing between Egypt or Jordan and how to do both. This is a great example on how to do both)

** Check the full Itinerary and dates by clicking here **

Jordan and Israel for Contiki Tours (18-35 year olds) 11 days

What I like about this tour is that you get the best of Jordan and Israel in Just 11 days. The downside to this tour is it is a whirlwind visit. You could easily spend 11 days in each country! I do not like that there is no overnight in Wadi Rum (as that is one of my favorite things to do in Jordan ) but you do at least visit the desert. Having never been to Wadi Rum, when travellers are looking at tours, they have no idea that spending a night in the desert is really a must-do!

This tour is also very Israel focused with most of your time spent there (including your Dead Sea visit). I would not suggest this tour for young people who want a Jordan focused tour, it is more of an Israel experience with a bit of Jordan thrown in since you are already in the Middle East.

The 6 Best Jordan Tours For Unforgettable Adventures That Are Achievable & Affordable

Expert travel storyteller Jordan Adkins, founder of InspiredByMaps.com, brings a decade of adventures across 101 countries and 450+ UNESCO sites into rich, off-the-beaten-path narratives, melding ecological expertise with genuine, seasoned travel insights. His full bio can be found here.

Strategically situated in the Middle East and often referred to as the Hashemite Kingdom, Jordan has a variety of landscapes and is one of the best countries for travelers to explore. Jordan is bordered by Israel and the Palestinian National Authority to the west, Syria to the north, Iraq to the northeast, and Saudi Arabia to the east and south.

The country is 89,213 square kilometers, with desert making up about 75% of its area. The Dead Sea, located 408 meters below sea level, is found in Jordan and is regarded as the lowest location on Earth. Jebel Umm El Dami, which is 1854 meters above sea level, is the highest point in Jordan, in comparison.

Jordan is a country rich in history, Some of the first settlements and villages in human history were settled here, and remnants of many of the world’s greatest civilizations may still be found today.

The country has functioned as a vital hub linking Asia, Africa, and Europe. Since the beginning of civilization, Jordan has played a significant role as a commercial and communication route connecting north, south, east, and west thanks to its geographic location. Jordan still fulfills this function now.

Jordan is home to many religious and historical sites, including Petra, Mount Nebo, Jerash, and more. Most people travel to Jordan to discover its history.

The capital, Amman, is in the northwest of the country. Amman is where many tourists start their Jordanian journey and where some say, “The magic happens.” Jordan is a desirable destination due to its topography, political stability, world-class hospitality, rich history, and intriguing culture.

Jordan’s national economy depends heavily on tourism. It is the second-biggest employment in the private sector, the second-highest creator of foreign exchange, and the largest export sector in the Kingdom. Tourism in Jordan generates more than $800 million in revenue each year. Jordan’s most popular tourist attractions include several historical landmarks like Petra, its distinctive desert castles, and its cultural and religious monuments.

Planning a trip to Jordan is an exciting experience for everyone involved. Jordan is well known for its beauty and breathtaking scenery. It’s also well known for its intense history. Many travelers flock to Jordan to discover its ancient religious history. Some come to discover Petra, Wadi Rum, or the Dead Sea. When looking to travel to Jordan, booking an organized tour is important.

This is so important because it is difficult to get from one site to the next. Each popular site is quite far away from the other, and there isn’t much in terms of transportation to connect everything. It can also be exciting to learn about the country through the eyes of a local guide and get the insight you may have never gained if you went independently. With that being said, it is vital to book a multiday tour.

All the logistics, long car rides, and planning can be left to the experts, and you can travel with peace of mind knowing everything is already arranged for you. So without further adieu, let’s look at the top six multiday best Jordan tours.

One Week in Jordan

I really loved it. Though I would have enjoyed more time at the Dead Sea. The guide Was amazing. I would have liked to be in touch with interpred more. It was really tough to get in touch and receive awnsers ahead of the trip. Because of the bad communication I booked the planes and hotels for before and after the trip myself. I didn’t dare do it with the help of a company where I have to beg for replies. I have to admit the communication got better the closer the trip came. The trip itself was amazing!

Jordan Explorer Group Tour - 8 Days

I have travelled all over the world and had many drivers. My driver in Jordan, Najeep was the best I have ever had. He was so kind, he gave excellent information about Jordan's culture and everything not included in the tour. The tour itself was awesome. I could not believe the beauty of the country and the places I experienced.

Jordan Jewels - 8 Days Tour

Jordan Jewels - 8 Days

Jordan is an extraordinary country - the history, culture and landscape make it worth the trip almost no matter what. That said, I booked to travel with a group and only found out (when I asked; info was not volunteered) right beforehand that I would be traveling alone. This was a surprise and not my choice but there was nothing to do at that point. I had one wonderful driver - Mohamed - throughout the trip and that was great. The hotels were good/ fine, not great. There were guides on only two half days and both were engaged by the historical site (e.g. my guide worked for the entity operating the park at Petra), they were not private guides or guides employed by the tour company. Long story short, know your expectations, read the fine print, and ask questions long in advance. Know what's important to you: Is the hotel in a central location? Are there restaurants within walking distance? How much time is spent with and without the guide? What are the amenities in the hotels? How many people will you be traveling with or will they operate the trip if it's only one or two people? Nothing was misstated to me or concealed, I just didn't know to ask and had some challenges as a result. The company was fine in their communication with me though when I asked four days in advance to be moved to a more central location for my final night I was told that wasn't possible.

We had a wonderful time exploring and learning about Jordan! It was my second tour and all of the sites were just as memorable as they were the first time that I visited 5 years ago! We truly had the most incredible Jordan vacation thanks to Book2Jordan Tours! Every detail was taken care from the moment we arrived. An airport representative awaited us, to great drivers, to superb hotels! Our tour guide Hussam is such an expert in his field and very passionate about the history of Jordan, we were lucky to have him during our stay. Shukran for being phenomenal in every way!

Jordan Encounters Tour

Jordan Encounters

It was a lovely journey. Our guide Riyad was delightful. He was competent, caring, professional with a great sense of humor and I felt we were in capable hands. Our driver Waleed was also a terrific gentleman. Although Petra is certainly a main attraction, experiencig Jerash was equally as awesome. Our home stay was wonderful with warm, cozy accommodations and a most hospitable guide in Esa and fabulous meals prepared by his charming wife. One concern is Petra by Night. Although it seems to be highly recommended, it’s a rather precarious walk over rocks and very uneven surfaces in the dim light and although it was lovely to see the spectacle, my 3 companions felt as I did that it didn’t quite live up to its promise We were all much happier to go in the next morning early and missed the crowds. And by going in at night you miss the grandeur and the majesty of the Siq. Oh and by the way, staying overnight at Wadi Rum and doing the camel ride before sunup was also a great experience. I’ve left out so many of the magnificent and interesting ancient structures we also visited but they were very worthwhile to see as well. One more slight cavil: a little down time would have been welcome. I think I’ve forgotten to mention the food, which was absolutely delicious, whether on our own or meals that were provided. In conclusion my friends and I. Had a marvelous journey and we would not hesitate to book through TourRadar or Encounters another time

Reviews of Small Group tours to Jordan

Amazing tour, seeing all the sites in Jordan. Was lucky enough to be the only person booked on my date so had one-on-one guiding with Thaer who was absolutely brilliant! Thoroughly recommend this tour
Mo was an excellent tour leader in that he has such passion and enthusiasm about Jordan. I learnt so much about the history and culture and so enjoyed all of the activities. Mo went over and beyond to ensure my dietary needs were met as I have coeliac disease which was much appreciated. Highly recommend this tour.
Great tour to have a quick experience of Jordan, if you get Hisham as your guide your will be very lucky, He is very knowledgeable, well organized, very motivated, and hardworking & show you all the hidden gems. I have travelled a lot with so many tour groups but intrepid you are my new favourite! Would suggest putting more time into Petra as we do not get to experience it completely.

THIS IS THE BEST TOUR COMPANY IN JORDAN - Jordan Select Tours

  • Middle East

  • Amman
  • Amman - Things to Do
  • Jordan Select Tours

THIS IS THE BEST TOUR COMPANY IN JORDAN

This is easily the best tour company I have ever used and it is clearly the best in Jordan (I researched and got quotes from competitors - sloppy, ripoff hotels in Amman, etc etc). Here are some amazing things about this company. 1. Elisa Papi, our contact with the company, is professional, detail-oriented, friendly, really knows her stuff. She is your main representative of the company and they couldn't find anyone better. She is patient, willing to answer questions, is totally, thoroughly reliable. Here's what she did for my hubby and I. Like idiots, when we arrived in Jordan, we paid the invoice for the tour to the guy who picked us up in JOD instead of USD even though the invoice was clearly marked. (Jet lag, excitement about being there, etc made us less than sharp!). This would have gone unnoticed by us except that Elisa contacted us out of the blue to inform us that we were owed a refund of about $400 USD!! What company would go out of there way to tell you that they owe you money? I thoroughly honest and reliable one! That is what this outfit is like through and through. 2. Our driver, Firasi, was fantastic. Not a chatterbox, but very informative when asked questions, extremely knowledgeable about his country (he lived in Los Angeles for a long time too) and a supergood driver. We felt that we were in excellent hands throughout the trip, and it was interesting to get the perspective of a local willing to speak the truth about what he thinks about what is good and bad about the state of the country. 3. Everywhere we went was magnificent. We sortof designed our own tour b/c we heard Amman was not worth staying overnight in (true - the whole place smells of diesel fuel) but we got to see the ruins (worth a visit). Then we went straight to Petra and spent two glorious days there. Not enough time for Wadi Rum, but we are definitely coming back to camp there (they have 5* tents with showers) a la Lawrence of Arabia. Firasi then drove us to Jerash, which is definitely worth a visit and to the Dead Sea where we recovered from our Petra climbing. 4. The people of Jordan are incredibly noble, proud, elegant, friendly, helpful good people. We were a little taken aback by the AK47's being fired in the air at a wedding near to the hotel we were staying at, but there is zero danger. Most Americans don't realize this but the Middle East is one of the safest places to be b/c the crime rates are incredibly low. Obviously it depends on where you go, but Jordan is incredibly safe. And it's such a GORGEOUS country - very, very beautiful in a raw, rugged way. We're definitely going back, and we'll definitely use Jordan Select Tours. Ask for Elisa - she's the best! Firas is a first-class driver too.

My husband and I chose Jordan Select based on Trip Advisor reviews and we were very happy with our tour. Our initial correspondence was with Iris Tan, who was most helpful at all times. She responded to my many queries promptly and professionally. We had looked at group tours, but couldn't find one which matched the itinerary we wished to have. In addition, our private tour was much cheaper than a group tour and any private tour sourced from an Australian company. We chose the class of hotels we wanted, and the ones selected for us by Iris were excellent. We were upgraded in all our hotels, which was a lovely bonus. I actually requested a change of accommodation in Wadi Rum, which Iris was happy to do. Our driver, Hasan, spoke excellent English and was a wealth of information about all things pertaining to Jordan. We learnt a lot about his country, of which he is justifiably proud. Jordan is a very peaceful country and the Jordanians are friendly people. We felt safe at all times (except for driving in Amman, which is an experience) and would urge people to visit, as Jordan is suffering from a drop in tourism because of events in nearby countries. Hasan even took us to additional sites he though would interest us, and was flexible with our touring, being guided by the weather on a few occasions. His van was very comfortable and certainly more than roomy enough for the two of us. We had private guides in both Jerash and Petra, as part of our tour, and unlike a previous poster, felt we benefitted greatly from their expertise. However, we were happy to guide ourselves at smaller sites, despite people offering their services. I had researched the sites we were to visit, so knew what was what. Hasan took us to late lunches whilst in Amman, where we sampled local cuisine, and had so much to eat that we didn't need an evening meal. He also provided us with a mobile phone in case we needed to contact him. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Jordan and highly recommend Jordan Select.

We used Jordan Select to plan our 5 day trip to Jordan. From Ola answering my many questions to Raed being our guide extraordinaire, we had an amazing trip. Raed went above and beyond our expectations not only teaching us the significance of the sites we visited but also showed us about daily Jordanian life. He was patient with our four young children and with our lack of knowledge of world history! If he suggest something please listen--he recommends fantastic restaurants and sites. Booking through Jordan Select ensured all the details were taken care of and we had a flawless vacation in Jordan.

Amazing country, full of amazing people! A big shout out to our tour co-ordinator Ola Farraj and our beyond amazing driver cum guide Fares. I was apprehensive as I read numerous travel advisories advising against visiting Jordan but not once did I feel unsafe or threatened. I found absolute bliss in Wadi Rum and my senses refused to return. I have visited 4 wonders of the world so far and Petra without doubt tops them all. We were a party of 4 and spent 6 days touring Jordan.

Mohammad Salameh with Jordan Select Tours was our guide and he was fantastic! His english was excellent, he is a great driver and provided us with his knowledge of the area. We spent 5 days in Jordan and because of Mohammad's knowledge of the area we arrived everywhere on time. I would recommend asking for Mohammad on any trip. He even gave us tips for our next Jordan Select tour.

My wife and I have just completed (Nov. 2013) a fantastic private tour of Jordan. Many thanks to the Jordan Select Tours which provided us with very accurate information and provided us very helpful drivers and guides. At the onset, we were a little concerned about the current situation in the Middle-East.
