We saw sites in Palermo LA Boca San Telmo city center Recolata the port with stops along the way. We went to the famous cemetery in Recolata where Ana shared stories of famous people buried there. 4 hours is not enough time there is so much to see in Buenos Aires. We only had one full day the city tour was an excellent introduction and Ana made our trip very special. When the tour was done she dropped us off at San Telmo for more shopping and something to eat. It was so convenient to be picked up at our hotel. We will come back and see Ana for more city experiences. Read more Written May 4, 2024

He was an absolutely wonderful guide, with perfect English, lots of knowledge about history and landmarks plus great stories and tips about how things work in Argentina. It was raining, so it was a little hard to see on the 1 hour boat tour, but we still really enjoyed it - especially the replica of the former president's house encased in glass. Afterwards, at our request Fred took us to Tigre stadium so we could buy some jerseys & we were lucky enough to get in to see the pitch! Then to San Isidro to see the gothic church and cute square. Recommend - if you can get Fred! Read more Written May 1, 2024

  • donk189 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Worst tour guide we've ever had This was the worst tour guide we've ever had. He drove us to the various area, did minimal explanation, parked the car, then just told us to walk around by ourselves. For example, “the cathedral is over there, go in and look, come back to the car in 15 minutes”. Same with almost every other highlight- the Women's bridge, Casa Rosa, bookstore, the flower sculpture, etc etc. in the Recolleta cemetery, he did actually come with us to walk us around for 15 minutes , but when we asked for more details, he said it was too complicated and we would just be bored . i’m not sure if this is normal behavior for this company's guides, but it was not what we expected, and a very poor experience for us. Great View of Latin American & Argentine history

I went here with two Argentine friends and had a great time not only learning about Argentine history, but also learning about other leaders in Latin America such as Simon Bolivar. Might only need about 45 - 60 minutes, but rich in history and art.

My wife and I went to CASA ROSADA and my wife felt very emotional. Although we didn't go inside, the fact that we were shown the balcony where Evita stood next to her husband and gave a speech was very moving. That Balcony has always got the shutters closed and is easly recognizable due to this This is the Balcony were MADONNA sang in the movie EVITA, and if you saw the play and enjoyed it then you will enjoy seeing Casa Rosada. We were also lucky to see the guards marching in front of it. Casa Rosada is only a 5 minute walk from the Florida Mall. Although it sounds strange, we followed up this visit to a visit to the cemetery where we saw the burial site where Eva Peron is together with her family. She is buried under her family name of Duarte, and believe me this cemetery is incredible and should not be missed, always crowded with many tours so my wife and I who went on our own, just followed the crowd who took us direct to the grave site. This also should not be missed if travelling to Buenos Ayres.

My host in Buenos Aires, her friend and I joined a bilingual tour of Casa Rosada: where we took in portraits of famous Argentinians ranging from Lionel Messi to Victoria Ocampo (significant to me as a Bengali because of her link with the Nobel laureate and Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore). We collectively encountered a gooseflesh moment when we gathered at the historic balcony from where Eva Peron rallied the working masses, overlooking a square with still ongoing rallies by Peronistas. Shades of the musical 'Evita', of course, and the popular song, 'Don't cry for me, Argentina.' One major disappointment, though. No one I met could give me a clear reason as to why the grand mansion was painted pink!

If you love the musical Evita, this is the place to visit in Buenos Aires. Here is the park where the workers gathered and here is the balcony where Eva sang "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" in the musical. Beautiful spot filled with history both real and theatrical.

We really enjoyed the free tour on offer. Our did the tour in both English and Spanish. It was very informative and got to visit some very interesting areas of the building. Its defiantly worth visiting the house if you are in Buenos Aires on a weekend.

The Casa Rosada is open to the public on weekends and holidays. Inside the central lobby/waiting area, you can see many paintings of famous Argentines and Latin Americans, and also take pictures with the guards. From there you can join a free group tour. I joined an English tour. There were about 60 of us roaming the halls (very large!). The tour-guide spoke in Spanish and then translated everything into English, so it wasn't completely in English. To be honest, it was more like a museum then a government office -- there were exhibits and halls that seemed out-of-place in a government office, but overall it was a nice 1.5 hour visit. Highlights include the Gold Room, the Balcony, and the President's office.

La historia de la Casa Rosada

tour casa rosada buenos aires

...

Present in tours

Café Tortoni is the oldest and perhaps best preserved of the city’s many officially recognised historic cafés, known as " bares notables ". Founded in 1858 in the neighbourhood of Monserrat, this elegant venue was frequented by important politicians and cultural icons including writers such as Jorge Luis Borges and Julio Cortázar, the musician Arthur Rubinstein and the singer Carlos Gardel.

The cafe was founded by a French immigrant named Touan and named after a cafe in Paris. The façade on the Avenida de Mayo was designed by the architect Alejandro Christophersen in 1898.

Order a coffee and medialunas or indulge in churros with chocolate and soak up the atmosphere. The café also serves cider on tap and hosts evening jazz and tango shows.

Curiosities

The singer Carlos Gardel had his own table permanently reserved for him at the cafe. According to the poert and tango lyricist Enrique Cadícamo, it was the table at the back righthand side of the hall beside the window. The Tortoni is one of the few cafes that still offers a century-old type of ice cream called "leche merengada", which was made famous in a song by María Elena Walsh.
