iQIYI Announces the Start of Production for "The Journey of Flower 2" 2019.9.27

BEIJING, Sept. 27, 2019 -- iQIYI, Inc. (NASDAQ: IQ) ("iQIYI" or the "Company"), an innovative market-leading online entertainment service in China, announced the start of production for The Journey of Flower 2 (the "Series"), sequel to the highly popular online drama series The Journey of Flower ("the Series' first season") that was released in 2015. Following the success of the Series' first season, iQIYI will once again work with the team at Ciwen Media to bring audiences back to the world of this beloved IP production. Based on Chinese mythologies and set in the world of heavenly gods, the Series follows the love story between an immortal and a kind-hearted orphan girl.

The Journey of Flower

She is the last god of the world and a Lone Star (an unlucky star). On the day of her birth, flowers wilted and the sky turned dark as her mother passed away during childbirth. Therefore, she was named Hua Qian Gu, meaning a thousand flower bones. Her body has a strange scent that attracts and provokes demons. Taking the advice of her dying father, Hua Qian Gu sets out on the journey to seek for a teacher to teach her martial art skills so that she could protect herself. On her journey she met friends such as Dongfang Yu Qing, Meng Xuan Lang, and Sha Qian Mo.

When Hua Qian Gu (Zhao Li Ying) was born, flowers withered and her mother passed. These ominous signs foreshadow a dark future and she grows up ostracized by the villagers. She meets Bai Zi Hua (Wallace Huo), a master swordsman with mythical powers who swears to protect the mortal realm against evil forces. Even though she is fated to cause his demise, Bai Zi Hua decides against killing her and takes her in as his one and only disciple. They become friends and fall for each other despite their relationship as master and student. However, Bai Zi Hua finds himself on the brink of death as he is poisoned after trying to save Hua Qian Gu. After learning the truth, Hua Qian Gu plots to steal a coveted weapon to save her Master no matter the cost.

Hua Qian Gu pleads with Bai Zi Hua to give up his position as the headmaster and to run away with her. However, he is unable to overcome the moral consequences of becoming her lover as he is her teacher. Hua Qian Gu purposely angers Bai Zi Hua by enacting a scene where she's killed numerous disciples of Chang Liu. Bai Zi Hua stabs Hua Qian Gu and realizes too late that everything was but a hallucination. Bai Zi Hua tries to commit suicide in order to be with her in death but Hua Qian Gu transfers all of her life force to him so that he will live forever in regret. With tears falling from his eyes, he realizes that he's made the wrong choice and that he's willing to give up everything just to be with her. Days later, Hua Qian Gu is alive albeit still recovering as she can only stay awake for a short while. As it turn out, Bai Zi Hua's martial arts senior gave his life so that she can live again. She wakes again beside Bai Zi Hua with no memories of their tragic past and the two finally get to lead a carefree life like a couple from the heavens.
