Earlier this month, John Mayer embarked on his first-ever solo acoustic tour. He’s a month into now and already craving more. On Monday, the singer announced a second North American leg adding 17 new dates to the initial 19.
“As a dear friend once told me, “never block a blessing.” Something very special is happening out here and I want to keep it going – It’s too good for my soul. Thank you for making it such an incredible run so far…,” Mayer wrote on social media.
The new dates pick up on Oct. 3 at Madison Square Garden and extend through Nov. 10 with a final show in Los Angeles. JP Saxe will join for support on the new stretch making stops in Boston, Tampa, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, and more. Mayer also promises that European dates are on the way.
General sale for the new dates begins Friday, March 31 at 9 a.m. local time.

On Thursday (January 26), the "New Light" singer announced his upcoming Spring tour where he plans to get back to his roots of being on stage with just a mic and guitar, with focus on the musician's acoustic guitar work as well as special performances on piano and electric guitar, per USA Today . The 19-city tour will also feature special guests Lizzy McAlpine and Alec Benjamin , as well as another to be announced, in select cities.
"I began my career on stage with only a guitar and a microphone," he said. "A lot has changed since then, but I knew one day I'd feel it in my heart to do an entire run of shows on my own again, just like those early days. It took a couple of decades, but I feel it now."

The major announcement comes days after Mayer, 46, shared a cryptic post on social media with the caption, "It wasn’t time until it was. 🎟️" At the time, it was unclear if he would be dropping a new album, a new single, a music video, a movie, a tour announcement or a "new line of stools he designed for Target," as one user hilariously commented, but everyone was pretty excited, evident in the overwhelming number of comments.
Good thing that now we have answers!
Mayer most recently released his eighth studio album Sob Rock in July 2021. Since then, things on the Mayer front have been pretty quiet — up until he appeared on Call Her Daddy last month and unloaded past relationships, music philosophies and sexual revelations about himself. Not only did the "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room" singer share that he likes to serenade women naked with his guitar after sleeping with them, but he also answered the decades-old question of who "Your Body Is a Wonderland" is really about .
"That was about my first girlfriend. That was about the feeling, which I think was already sort of nostalgic … I was 21 when I wrote that song and I was nostalgic for being 16," he said. Host Alex Cooper said she believed the song was about one of his famous girlfriends, but he shut that down pretty quickly. "No, that's one of those things where people just sort of formed that idea, it gets reinforced over the years, no, no, no. I had never met a celebrity when I wrote that song."

John Mayer announces North American acoustic solo tour
The Sob Rock singer-songwriter will temporarily hang up his PRS Silver Sky signature guitar for his Martin acoustic, with which he'll revisit old tracks and test-drive new material
John Mayer has announced a tour of North America for later this year, but there’s a twist: he’ll be doing the whole thing unaccompanied with his acoustic guitar .
After teasing a surprise announcement on social media earlier this week, Mayer ended speculation by confirming he will be embarking on an acoustic solo tour of the US, which is set to commence in March.
In a statement posted to his social media, Mayer said the idea of an acoustic solo tour had been brewing for a while, and reflected that it was just a matter of time before he returned to his roots with “only a guitar and a microphone”.
“I began my career on stage with only a guitar and a microphone,” Mayer wrote. “A lot has changed since then, but I knew one day I’d feel it in my heart to do an entire run of shows on my own again, just like those early days. It took a couple of decades, but I feel it now.”

Mayer also went on to say his solo tour will see him play predominantly acoustic guitar, with some electric guitar and piano, and that he will take the opportunity to road-test “songs you haven’t heard yet”.
The 19-date tour will kick off on March 11 at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, and will conclude at the Kia Forum in LA, California, on April 14. Between those dates, Mayer will visit New York’s Madison Square Garden, Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena, Chicago’s United Center and other notable venues.
Notably, Mayer’s solo stint around the country will finish just days before he’s set to head out with Dead & Company in the middle of May for the supergroup’s last-ever tour .

As for solo touring, it will be the first time Mayer hits the road in support of his own music since the Sob Rock tour last year, which was launched following the release of his album of the same name.
Since it’s an acoustic tour, it’s highly unlikely we’ll see Mayer play his new Jerry Garcia Wolf replica guitar , which was created by Bill Asher of Asher Guitars using Doug Irwin’s original design blueprints and notes.

John Mayer Kicks Off Solo Tour With Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed [Photos/Videos/Audio]
John Mayer kicked off his first solo acoustic arena tour at Newark, NJ’s Prudential Center Saturday night.
The singer-songwriter and Dead & Company frontman struck a reflective tone throughout the evening, making it clear that he considered the solo arena tour to be one of his greatest achievements. “There’s no tour in my entire life I’ve thought about more than this one,” he told the audience. Mayer has performed solo acoustic shows many times before—most recently at his Rise For The River benefit at Pine Creek Lodge in Livingston, MT, where he played the album Born And Raised in its entirety—but few performers have been able to mount a solo tour of such proportions, and even fewer have managed to captivate an arena audience so fully with nothing but a guitar and a microphone. Old promo footage of a baby-faced, pre-fame John Mayer walking around Hollywood in 2002 added to the evening’s nostalgic and triumphant tone.
Saturday’s tour opener began with Mayer’s 2006 hit “Slow Dancing In A Burning Room”, followed by “Queen Of California” from 2012’s Born And Raised and “Shouldn’t Matter But It Does” from 2021’s Sob Rock , his latest LP. The setlist featured songs from throughout Mayer’s catalog, including the first “Home Life” in 18 years, which he said fulfilled the tour’s promise of “deep cuts,” as well as covers of Tom Petty ‘s “Free Fallin'” and the Grateful Dead ‘s “Friend of the Devil” played on a double-neck acoustic guitar.
Mayer sat down at a piano for the middle portion of the set before returning to guitar. He later debuted a new song entitled “Driftin'”, saying he likes to test out new material live before recording it. The encore featured “Walt Grace’s Submarine Test, January 1967”, which Mayer recently revealed is being adapted into a major film , and “Born and Raised”.

Meyer Sound PANTHER Gets Personal on John Mayer Solo Acoustic Tour
Ultrasound system brings close-up intimacy to every seat in the arena.
The PANTHER system reacts accurately to subtle mix changes, especially in this stripped-down environment. With just a voice and guitar it’s critical that the PA does not influence tonality. The PANTHER system only puts out what you put into it!”

Gifted with an emotive voice and extraordinary guitar skills, and drawing on a deep repertoire of chart-topping songs, John Mayer is one of the rare artists able to fill “A level” arenas as a true solo act. The rousing success of his recently concluded Solo Acoustic Tour relied on an intimate connection with his audience, accomplished aurally via a reinforcement system of Meyer Sound PANTHER large-format linear line array loudspeakers provided by UltraSound.
The spring leg of the tour kicked off on March 11 at New Jersey’s Prudential Center and wrapped at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum before Mayer embarked on a summer tour with Dead & Company — also supported by a PANTHER-based system from UltraSound. The fall leg was another east-to-west marathon, launching at Madison Square Garden with the November finale again at the Kia Forum. The FOH engineer for both the solo legs and the triumphant final tour by Dead & Company was Derek Featherstone, who also wears the hat of UltraSound CEO.
According to Featherstone, mixing one voice accompanied by guitar or piano is not the simple chore it might seem. “With one vocal and one instrument, there is nothing for the artist or engineer to hide behind,” he points out. “The mix is either right or wrong. The detail in compression and effects is plainly audible so you have to mix with greater accuracy.”
Accordingly, he continues, the touring rig kept him on his toes. “The PANTHER system reacts accurately to subtle mix changes, especially in this stripped-down environment. With just a voice and guitar it’s critical that the PA does not influence tonality. The PANTHER system only puts out what you put into it!”
Although the exact system configuration varied with particular arenas, a typical deployment would be anchored by front left and right arrays of 18-each PANTHER loudspeakers with side hangs of the same length as well as, when needed, extreme side hangs for 220-degree coverage consisting of 20 LEOPARD line array loudspeakers per side. In most scenarios, three short delays of LYON line array loudspeakers were added for balance and intimacy in the far upper seats. Dual hangs of six each 700-HP subwoofers filled out the deep bass notes.
For performance capture and mix processing, the front end of the system offered both analog purity and digital flexibility, with a vintage Gamble EX68 analog console paired with an Avid S6L digital mixer. “We also made a conscious decision not to use any wireless mics, wireless guitar feeds, or in-ear monitors. That’s part of the reason for the Gamble, as there is something rewarding to having a mic or instrument on a cable going into an analog desk. For vocal inserts, we leaned on the Summit DCL hybrid tube compressors and Empirical Labs Distressors.”
With no band bleed to worry about, Featherstone selected the Neumann KMS105 supercardioid condenser for Mayer’s vocals. “With no band behind him, we could use a condenser just like we would do in a studio since we don’t have to sacrifice any sonic reproduction to navigate around background bleed.”
After meticulous care in analog capture and sound shaping, Featherstone relied on the latest advancements in digital networking to deliver the signal with undiminished purity to the individual line array loudspeakers. “We are using the Milan AVB network to run digital all the way to each PANTHER cabinet,” he notes. “We feel like the AVB network does add some clarity in the 4kHz and higher regions.”
Eight MJF‑210 stage monitors were deployed for foldback, with three each at the two guitar performance positions, and two at the piano position. “The guitar positions are set up so the center wedge is vocal and the side wedges are guitar in stereo,” says Featherstone. “This keeps the three wedges from fighting each other.”
Rounding out the sound crew for the tour were System Engineer Michal Kacunel, Monitor Engineer Ian Dubois, Monitor Tech Alex Pritchard, and PA Techs Sean McAdam, Riley Gajewski, and Erik Swanson.
John Mayer’s Solo Acoustic Tour resumes in late winter of 2024 in the UK and Europe, with most of the same UltraSound crew and front-end gear flying over and joining up with a similar PANTHER system from a Meyer Sound rental partner.
A typical setlist on the fall tour leg covered about 20 of Mayer’s own compositions plus a couple of covers. Most accompaniment was on standard acoustic guitar, with two songs backed by piano and a few more using a double-necked acoustic with some looping effects. The opening act for the fall leg was JP Saxe.

John Mayer Electrifies at Nashville Solo Acoustic Tour Stop
by Annie Reuter March 25, 2023, 10:38 am
John Mayer’s more than 20-year catalog was on full display Friday night (March 24) at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. For two hours, the Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter and guitarist proved he’s an adept one-man band during the seventh date of his Solo Acoustic Arena Tour .
Videos by American Songwriter
Throughout the evening, Mayer alternated between multiple acoustic and electric guitars as well as piano and harmonica. He served as the sole artist on stage, save a surprise collaboration with Sheryl Crow on the standout “Strong Enough.”
Mayer launched into his 20-plus song set with fan favorite “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room” from his critically acclaimed 2006 album Continuum. Seated alone onstage with his acoustic guitar, Mayer had the sold-out arena in the palm of his hand as the audience sang along word for word from the first verse. He then segued effortlessly into “Shouldn’t Matter But It Does,” off his latest project 2021 Sob Rock, and performed a snippet of Bob Dylan’s “Forever Young.”
“Hi Nashville,” he said as he acknowledged the crowd for the first time four songs in. “I just want to say that I know I’m in the presence of a great many artists, writers, singers, songwriters, musicians themselves who are no stranger to playing their instrument onstage alone. The spirit is the same. Thank you for coming out to listen to me.”
Mayer’s storytelling and guitar handiwork was evident throughout as he took fans on a musical and life journey. Throwback videos of his early days were shown between songs – one around the release of 2001 debut Room for Squares ahead of his performance of “Neon” and another in the studio recording Continuum before the poignant “Stop This Train” – giving more personal insight to the man behind the hits. Both songs highlighted Mayer’s guitar chops with minute-long musical interludes and intricate guitar picking.
The audience knew the deep cuts, as well as Mayer’s hit singles, and this fact was not lost on the singer. “Every artist wishes they could play just the songs that they love,” he said. “Thank you guys for being so accepting. … I’m having so much gratitude for people with signs that say that I’ve written the soundtrack to your experiences in your life. That’s cooler than anything you could win, any email you can get saying, ‘Number one with a bullet, Johnny.’ That’s a really beautiful thing.”
He then read off the signs with song requests and performed a medley of some. “Something Like Olivia” kicked off the collection before he segued into “My Stupid Mouth,” “Daughters” and his own song preference, “Waitin’ On the Day” complete with harmonica.
“Let’s go to the next song. Oh, there’s a sign that says, ‘Play a new one nobody knows and stop the momentum of the show completely,’” he joked, as he pretended to read a fictional sign. “This is the town to play the new stuff.”
A song about drifting through life, Mayer’s emotive vocals and honest lyrics struck a chord alongside delicate strums of the guitar. Called my shrink the other day / Forgot what I was gonna say / So I lied and said I lost my way ’cause I couldn’t let him down / Put my leather jacket on / To play the part of bad boy John / A brokenhearted vagabond that wandered into town / ’Cause I’m driftin’ driftin’ driftin’ … Maybe someday, baby, I’ll drift into you.
While his vulnerabilities were shown throughout his lyrics, Mayer’s humor was also on full display. Ahead of “Who Says,” he counted off the song before realizing it was just him on stage.
“I don’t really need to count this off,” he admitted. “There’s no one else in the band and yet I’m counting off. It’s part of the song. Ready guys?”
Mayer’s set included his own one-man jam as he played piano with one hand and guitar with the other following a medley of “New Light,” “Changing” and “You’re Gonna Live Forever In Me,” the latter of which highlighted his mesmerizing falsetto. Later, he strapped on a Tim Teel-custom-built Martin double-neck acoustic guitar for the Born and Raised track “If I Ever Get Around to Living” and Battle Studies’ “Edge of Desire.”

Additional highlights featured a spirited performance of “ Your Body Is a Wonderland ,” a song he wrote when he was 21 (“I sing it totally sincerely. Even the part about the bubble gum”), and a surprise duet with Crow.
“She’s one of my favorite artists and one of my favorite people,” he said as he introduced the 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominee. “I first met her when she was a superstar and today she is a legend. Please welcome Sheryl Crow.”
Mayer took the backseat during the spirited performance of “Strong Enough,” assisting on harmonies and guitar as Crow sang lead. He followed the collaboration with another fan favorite, “In Your Atmosphere,” featured on the 2008 live project Where the Light Is .
Following a two-song encore of “Born and Raised” and a cover of Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin” (also featured on Where the Light Is) , the backdrop switched to read “John Mayer Solo.”
“I am, I’ve always been, and will continue to be, John Mayer,” Mayer quipped as he closed the two-hour performance. “I hope this was the show you were looking forward to.”
By the crowd’s response to every song, it’s safe to say it was.

They’re slow dancing in a burning room.
Andy Cohen, 55, has addressed the rumors that he’s dating John Mayer, 46.
“Let them speculate!” the Bravo puppetmaster told the Hollywood Reporter in an interview published Wednesday.
“I honestly love John Mayer, and he loves me,” Cohen continued.
“But because we’re so affectionate toward each other, people don’t know what box to put that in. They assume we’re sleeping with each other, which we are most definitely not.”
Cohen and the “Your Body is a Wonderland” crooner have been pals for over a decade, after meeting through a friend and discovering their mutual love for the Grateful Dead.
The “Watch What Happens Live” host even confessed that the two are “in love with each other,” even though their relationship is strictly platonic.
During an appearance on SiriusXM’s “The Howard Stern Show” in June 2023, host Howard Stern asked Cohen if he was in love with Mayer.
“I am in love with John Mayer,” Cohen said.
“We are in love with each other.”
He later swore on his children — Benjamin Allen, 4, and Lucy Eve, 19 months — that he and Mayer, who is straight, have never had a sexual relationship.
Cohen, who is gay, has often faced rumors that he’s involved with Mayer.
In 2018, Cohen denied the pair were dating after Mayer serenaded him with an acoustic version of Diana Ross ‘ “It’s My House.”
Cohen thanked him with a hug and a kiss on the lips.
“I’ve done nothing but learn that song in the last 48 hours,” Mayer said. “I have eaten, breathed, and slept ‘It’s My House.’
“I didn’t know the song,” he added.
“Now I’ll never forget the song.”
“Listen, we have a very sweet friendship, and we are together all the time,” Cohen told CNN after he was asked if he was surprised that people thought they were dating.
“I think that I was not surprised because we also have a great love for each other. So, it just seems like the obvious assumption.”
In a 2015 Entertainment Weekly article, Cohen wrote, “John Mayer and I have what some would consider an unlikely friendship. He’s one of our greatest living guitarists, and I’m regarded as the dude that stirs the s–t on late-night TV.”
In the same story, Cohen said the duo took a road trip to see the Grateful Dead, and during the trip, “the dude who can make all the ladies’ panties drop to the Powerhouse [a gay bar]… John was the ultimate wingman, asking me who was tickling my fancy. As the night went on, we wound up on the dance floor and — from what I remember — it was nothing short of euphoric.”
In 2017, Cohen shared a candid Instagram of Mayer lounging in a hotel bathrobe, while the two had breakfast on a balcony during the singer’s the Search for Everything tour.
Cohen captioned the photo, “I have the best, weirdest travel karma with @johnmayer where we always wind up in the same city, which means lots of food and a river of words. He split again, for the #SearchForEverything tour. Can’t wait to see it.”
Mayer also surprised Cohen in the LA Clubhouse on “WWHL” with a gift for Cohen’s then-future son.
“John wrote, ‘I have never met you yet I already love you,’ ” Cohen revealed.
In 2022, when Cohen got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Mayer gave a speech at the ceremony where he said, “I love Andy more than I can tell you. He’s a brilliant human being, a hilarious cohort, a loving son and brother — and more recently he’s become a proud, engaged and deeply devoted father.”
Cohen is single and on all the the dating apps, including Tinder, Grindr, Scruff, Hinge, and Raya.
“I got kicked off Grindr once because somebody reported me for impersonating myself,” he told THR.
“People are like, ‘Nice try. Why are you sending me Andy Cohen’s pictures?’ But once in a while it will work out.”
