Dance Thru Life - That's Peter Wolf - A tremondous performer, a great artist - Awesome show @ The Bowery Ballroom! Thinking that maybe we would be crying through the show with romantic slow songs - NO WAY! Peter carried the whole show in his usual manner - singing songs from the J. Geil era - best moment - Peter knelt down and held my hand during "Love Stinks"! I was in total awe! Peter whirling and twirling throughout the show dancing his life away! The band is awesome, Peter never disappoints - a packed crowd - can't wait until he gets back to NYC - he certainly did have a Cure For Loneliness! A charismatic stage act which will keep you jumpin', keep you thumpin' and forget any woes you may have - Never a dull moment with Peter around - 10 Stars for Peter Wolf!!!

Ohmigosh, where to begin? I think this might just be the best show I've seen this year. Mr. Wolf was electric from beginning to end. At one point, when dedicating a song to the ladies, he stepped into the crowd, walked about and thanked people personally, even kissed a hand or two. Later, he paid the bar tab for a loyal couple of fans. But the best part, by far, was the music itself. It stayed with me far into the night, is with me still. I can't stop listening to his latest CD, either. After all the heartache the past year has brought, Mr. Wolf has shown me that music is, indeed, healing. I am so grateful! (And lest I forget, Kenny White was a phenomenal opener - great musician AND songwriter.) In short, a fabulous evening.

As always Peter was amazing! A beautifully blended set list of his own great solo tunes as well as great J Geils Band tunes. He sounded awesome and his moves 45 years later haven't missed a beat. He closed out the show with the rarely played but awesome rocker House Party (which is what any of his or J Geils Band shows always are). He's long overdue for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and when you see him live you'll know ecatly why He and J Geils Band belong in it. A show that's not to be missed.

Saw Peter Wolf at the Cabot Theatre last nite. I have been following him since the Boston Tea Party. tremdous! 50 years and still Unbelievable. Would love to meet him. Security did not like me last nite at all. Im 67 years old and still mesmerised by his Performance. Amazing! I love the Wolfer Goofer! Rock On!

Peter wolf was as always fantastic high energy performance. Never dissapoints hope he tours with geils band again very soon.Played a mix of geils and solo tunes but set was too short as it was triple bill with steve winwood who was excellent and jackson browne not so much.

J. Geils Band’s Peter Wolf announces summer tour dates around New England

I t’s been a minute since Peter Wolf hit the road, but that’s about to change. The former J. Geils Band singer has announced a string of New England dates that’ll give longtime fans a chance to see the Hard Drivin’ Man do what he does better than most: Perform live onstage.

Wolf, who celebrated his 78th birthday last month, is doing a series of unplugged shows he’s calling the “Waiting On The Moon Tour: An Acoustic Evening of Stories and Songs.” He’ll be joined on the July dates by two frequent collaborators — guitarists Duke Levine and Kevin Barry.

Though best known as the electrifying frontman of the J. Geils Band, Wolf has released eight well-reviewed albums under his own name, including 2002′s “ Sleepless ,” which Rolling Stone ranked No. 427 on a list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Lately, Wolf, who grew up in the Bronx but has lived in Boston for several decades, has been keeping a low profile while he writes a memoir. Anyone familiar with the singer’s backstory knows the book could be fascinating. In his late teens, Wolf lived in an apartment around the corner from Club 47, the Harvard Square coffeehouse that became Club Passim, and hung out with the likes of Mose Allison, Bill Monroe, Otis Spann, Howlin’ Wolf, and Muddy Waters.

The first of the seven shows are July 5 and 6 at Stone Mountain Arts Center in Brownfield, Maine. Wolf will also perform in Fall River July 12, Westerly, R.I., July 13, Natick July 18, Norfolk, Conn., July 19, and Rockport July 25. Ticket info can be found at peterwolf.com .

As part of his upcoming memoir, Waiting On The Moon, Peter Wolf will be performing at some of New England’s most iconic locations. The tour includes dates in Brownfield, Fall River, Westerly, Natick and Norfolk.

Wolf will perform at the Stone Mountain Arts Center in Brownfield, MA on July 5 and 6, and the Narrows Center for the Arts in Fall River on July 12.

On July 13, Wolf will perform at The United in Westerly, RI, and on July 18, he’ll be at the Center for Arts in Natick. Following that, he heads to Norfolk on July 19 for an appearance at Infinity Hall. The tour closes on July 25 with a show at the Shalin Liu Performance Center in Rockport, MA.

The shows will feature acoustic music and stories from Wolf’s career. Wolf is being accompanied by guitar masters Duke Levine and Kevin Barry.

Peter Wolf returns to TD Garden Saturday as part of the Jim Irsay Collection’s (free!) road show

The j. geil’s frontman and onetime wbcn dj talks about the show, famous guitars, and his forthcoming memoir.

Before our scheduled interview, Peter Wolf leaves me a voicemail. Could we talk sooner?

The former WBCN late-night DJ “Woofa Goofa”/ Boston’s rock legend/J. Geils frontman/is part of a free concert at TD Garden as the Jim Irsay Collection rolls into town July 15.

Irsay, the owner of the Indianapolis Colts, is a rock lover, passionate collector, and his show is part traveling revue, part roving museum.

Vince Gill, REO Speedwagon’s Kevin Cronin, and Wolf, will perform, along with the nine-piece Jim Irsay Band, which includes Mike Mills of R.E.M., five-time Grammy nominee Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and drummer Kenny Aronoff (who has played with the likes of Paul McCartney and Bob Dylan.)

Then there’s the museum. In late 2021, Guitar Magazine called the Colt’s owner’s haul “ The Greatest Guitar Collection on Earth .” Among the instruments coming to Boston: the guitar on which Bob Dylan went electric in Newport, Jerry Garcia’s “Tiger;” guitars from John Lennon, George Harrison, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend, Kurt Cobain, and Johnny Cash, plus other collectibles, from Muhammad Ali’s robe to Elton John’s piano and Ringo Starr’s drum kit.

Ahead of his TD Garden concert, Wolf, 77, chatted about the gig — and teased his upcoming memoir.

Q. For the concert part of this event, there’s the Jim Irsay Band, Vince Gill, Kevin Cronin, and you. Can you tell us how the show is going to work?

A. I think everybody’s gonna do four or five numbers; the band will do some numbers. [The aim] is for people to spend time at the exhibits, then we go on, the band kicks in, sort of the icing on the cake, shall we say.

Q. Have you worked with any of the band members before?

A. During the highways and byways, I’ve met people. Mike Mills from R.E.M. — he used to come to my house, we’d sit around and drink and listen to music. With a lot of these guys, it’ll be a nice reunion.

Q. Will you play J. Geils songs?

A. Oh, yeah. [Irsay’s] apparently a big J. Geils fan. His band all grew up with Geils... I’m sure we’ll be kicking it high at the old Boston Garden.

Q. You were born in the Bronx, and got here by college-hopping [staying in different dorm rooms] to Boston.

A. I college-hopped across the country, ended up getting a scholarship to the [School of the Museum of Fine Arts] and stayed here. While I was studying, I formed my first band, the Hallucinations.

We played at the Boston Tea Party before it was even called the Boston Tea Party. One of our first shows was opening up for Andy Warhol; we played with the Velvet Underground. Boston had a lot of unique music going on.

Q. You took Van Morrison to the old Tea Party.

A. Van used to listen to my radio show on BCN. When we met, he was telling me about the show, not knowing I was the disc jockey. We became really close friends. He’d come by my place, we’d play music. Then we were performing at the Boston Tea Party and I invited him up — we did “Gloria.” People knew the song but they didn’t know who this guy up there was. About six months later, he started appearing at the Catacombs. That’s when he started debuting the songs that became “Astral Weeks.”

Q. You also lived with David Lynch when you first got here.

A. David was kind enough to let me share his apartment because I had no place to stay. He stayed about a year then dropped out, went to Philadelphia , to school there, started making “Eraser Head” and his first films.

We were the odd couple. He was very neat, well-dressed and groomed. I was a mess — green teeth, smoking three packs of cigarettes. He’d be playing the Beach Boys; I’d be playing wild stuff like Thelonious Monk. People say, “Boy, what was it like living with him? He must have been really strange.” But I think David thought I was a strange one.

Q. You told me that you and Bob Dylan exchanged books?

A. We did. And matter of fact, I’m writing a book , I’m just coming around the final bend. It’s a memoir, but not a formal memoir — it’s just my adventures with people I idolized, that I got to know. Like having lunch with Alfred Hitchcock, hanging out with Van Morrison, touring backstage with the Stones, dinner at Julia Child’s house, stuff like that.

Q. When did you have lunch with Alfred Hitchcock?

A. You’re going to have to read the book.

Q. [laughs] When does the book come out?

A. If not late fall, early next year.

Q. When did you last play TD Garden?

A. Tom Petty asked me and the Midnight Travelers [for what] unfortunately became his final tour. He used to open up for the Geils band when he first started. I said, Tom, I’m honored.

Q. You were born Peter Blankfield. Why “Wolf”?

A. “Wolf” was the nickname I had in the Bronx. When we were messing around with music at the Museum school, one of the guitar players would call me [that.] I never thought of [it as a professional] change in name. We were just art students getting together. We had no idea that within a matter of weeks, we’d be playing with the Rascals, the Byrds. It happened really quick. The name just stuck.
