Neha and Rafiq were excellent tour guides. They were very friendly. Neha is very knowledgeable and Rafiq is an excellent driver. I book this private tour last minute, not sure exactly what to expect. However, I am glad I did. The food and tour of Mumbai was great, no small part due to Neha and Rafiq. Thank you.

Great tour with 2 great guides (Kaviar & JQ). We were shown the market, the train station and many other great hotspots. Ideal for getting a feel for what life is like in Mumbai.

Excellent tour by Aryan, a young and professional tour guide. Patient, calm and composed in handling any situation. Polite, friendly, helpful, sincere and kind. It’s really hard to find such a committed and professional tour guide nowadays. He’s down to earth too. He bought me cold drink as the weather was burning and refused to take my money. He spoke good and clear English and explained everything in detailed for the slum and Mumbai sightseeing tour. He’s definitely a gem to the company & I’m sure all the guests will love him. Double thumbs up to Aryan & will engage his service for my future trip!

The driver, Rafik was punctual, picked me up from the hotel timely and drove us safely for the whole day. He’s friendly and professional and has a smiling face same as Aryan. It will be perfect if his car’s AC is cold then I wouldn’t perspire while on the road.

The tour company is also very professional. Replied my WhatsApp and arranged the driver to pick me up from hotel timely although my hotel was not in the preferred hotel list.

Overall, I’m very happy with the service!

This tour was excellent! Neha and Samhsher were great tour guides! This was our first time in India and they made sure we not only got to see wonderful things, but also educated us on many facts as well. They had great knowledge of all the tourist stops and were patient with us as we explored at our own pace. Would definitely recommend them and this tour for all visitors!

Mumbai Itinerary – How To Spend 1 Day In Mumbai

Posted on Last updated: 24 April 2024

Categories India , Itineraries

Mumbai, formerly called Bombay, is located on India’s west coast and is the country’s largest city with a population of over 21 million.

Known as the commercial capital of India, Mumbai attracts people from all over India looking to make their fortunes, resulting in a mix of religions and cultures all living harmoniously together.

It is has beautiful parks, beaches and iconic landmarks such as the Gateway of India. Along with a mix of old and new architecture, markets, street food, shops, restaurants, cafes and much more.

Building a one day in Mumbai itinerary is tough, with so much to see and do. So we’ve narrowed down all the best parts, into how to do Mumbai in a day.

Table of Contents

How To Get Around Mumbai

Getting around Mumbai couldn’t be easier. There are generally 3 options:

The train system in Mumbai is the most common form of local transport.

However, you must be aware that the trains running through the city are hugely over-crowded, particularly during rush hour.

The fare for train journeys in Mumbai starts from just 5 Rupees, to a maximum of 200 Rupees, depending on the distance between your stations.

Tickets can be bought at each station by paying with coins at the ticket from the counters.

A quick tip if you’re looking to avoid the queues is to cough up for first class. It may be the difference of 50 Rupees but could save you a lot of time standing around.

Just be aware that the carriages on the Mumbai trains are divided between ‘Ladies’ and ‘General’, so don’t get mixed up in the wrong compartment.

Taxi/Tuk Tuk

Mumbai taxis start from 22 Rupees, and are easy to hail anywhere in the city. Often referred to as Kaali-Peeli Cabs, just keep your eye out for the little black and yellow Fiat’s.

They are fairly inexpensive, and the drivers tend to use the meter for the most part so you should get a fair price.

The traffic situation is never good in Mumbai, therefore most people stick to using the trains.

The other option is to jump in a Tuk Tuk (or Rickshaw as known in India).

These are supposed to start even lower at 18 Rupees, however you’ll rarely find a rickshaw driver using the metre.

Haggling is always a starting point of conversation with rickshaws, so have your wits about you and be sure to agree a price before you get in the vehicle.

Uber is also available in some parts of the city for a fixed price option.

Some of the best days out we’ve had in Mumbai have been on private tours.

There’s even a Mumbai: Experience Local Transport, Sightseeing & Lunch tour available. For those that wish to experience the hustle and bustle of the train system without the stress of it all.

For those short on time, or that prefer everything to be organised for them, there are some awesome tours on Get Your Guide available to book in advance.

From food tours, to river rides and walking tours, there’s plenty to keep you busy in the bustling city!

Best Time To Visit Mumbai

The best time to visit Mumbai is probably during the winter months from December to March. This is when the weather is dry and sunny but not overbearingly hot.

The temperatures can get very hot from April onwards, with monsoon season generally during the months of June, July and August. This is when there are torrential downpours and high humidity.

Remember, this is just a guide, so you may want to mix it up and add/subtract different attractions.

Mumbai Trains One Day In Mumbai Itinerary Mumbai In A Day

Mumbai Itinerary Day 1

Dharavi slums.

The first destination we recommend on your one day in Mumbai itinerary are the infamous Dharavi Slums .

Dharavi is a locality in Mumbai, considered to be one of the largest slums in the world.

With a total area of just 2.1 square kilometres, and home to a population of around 700,000 people, you can imagine how compact and hectic the living quarters are.

To reach Dharavi the best options are to hire a rickshaw if you’re close, or jump on the train and get off at Mahim Junction.

From Mahim Junction you’ll be able to see the slums, and simply cross the railway to enter.

We opted to visit alone, and the people in the neighbourhood couldn’t have been more welcoming.

We received a few funny looks passing over the wrong side of the train tracks, but once we reached the heart of the community we were greeted by smiling faces!

If you do wish to have a guide, there are many tours available. However, just be sure to find out exactly where the money is going.

One of the top recommendations is the Ethical Dharavi Walking Tour , which promises that profits are re-invested in community initiatives such as education, skills development and healthcare projects.

”Learn the challenges of migrants as they settled into this community, their entrepreneurial stories and how to debunk the negative stereotypes of slums.”

Children ran towards us open armed, families invited us into their homes and even offered to cook food for us. Supposedly the most dangerous part of the city, turned out to be our favourite.

A great start to Mumbai in a day and a must on your overall India itinerary !

Dharavi Slums Mumbai In A Day

Gateway Of India & The City

From Dharavi the best way to reach the city is via the Suburban Train from Mahim Junction to Marine Lines.

Trains run every 4 minutes, and the journey takes roughly 30 minutes in total.

It will drop you within walking distance of Marine Drive. A 3.6-kilometre-long promenade that links Malabar Hill to Churchgate.

For the majority of your one day in Mumbai itinerary you’re going to want to explore around these areas.

If you’re looking for a guided tour of the city, with some local knowledge thrown in, we highly recommend the Mumbai: Private Full-Day Sightseeing Tour of the City .

This 10-hour trip takes you around the essential sights, while learning all about Mumbai’s history and culture.

One of the most popular destinations when visiting Mumbai in a day is the Gateway Of India. Built in December 1911 to welcome the King and Queen of England.

King George Pacham and Queen Mary were the first British monarch’s to visit Mumbai, and the monument has stood proudly ever since.

The monument has also been referred to as the Taj Mahal of Mumbai, and one of the top things to do in India .

Other popular destinations in the city include Victoria Terminus, Elephanta Caves, Marine Drive, the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Crawford Market, Malabar Hill, and Bollywood’s Film City.

If you’re looking to visit Elephanta Caves you can purchase ferry tickets from the Gateway of India. The ferry takes roughly 1 hour to reach the island.

For those that prefer everything to be organised for them, the Elephanta Caves: Private Half-Day Tour from Mumbai includes hotel pickup and drop-off, a tour guide, your entrance tickets, ferry tickets and train tickets.

Eat Local Street Food

At some point on your one day in Mumbai itinerary you’re going to want to try the cuisine!

So we recommend exploring the streets of Mumbai in a day, and getting stuck into the local snacks.

But what is Mumbai Chaat? – Chaat is a savory snack originated in India, typically served at the road-side from stalls or food carts. With its origins in Uttar Pradesh, chaat has become immensely popular in the rest of the Indian subcontinent.

From the traditional samosas, to the Asian inspired momos, go out and grab some cheap street food!

One of the top ways to do so is on a Mumbai: Hidden Street Eats Tour by Train . You’ll experience the culture of India through the vibrant street food scene of Mumbai, with this tasting tour of local on-the-go snacks.

Plus you get to travel from location to location by train and experience the city like a local.

There’s even a 4-Hour Evening Street Food Tour , for the real foodies visiting Mumbai.

We couldn’t get enough of the Indian spices, and we’re sure you’ll love them too on your Mumbai in a day tour!

The Perfect One Day In Mumbai Itinerary

1 Day in Mumbai: The Perfect Itinerary for First-Timers (2024)

1 day in Mumbai

If you’re planning on spending 1 day in Mumbai (formerly known as Bombay) as a first-timer, then you have come to the right place!

Often dubbed the “City of Dreams”, Mumbai is famous for being the place where Bollywood movies are made. This is one of India’s major cosmopolitan cities and there are plenty of things to do here.

To be honest, you could easily spend weeks exploring this city, as it’s HUGE. If you’re short on time, like I was during my visit to Mumbai, however, one day will be enough to see the highlights.

So, from seeing the Gateway to India, one of the country’s most famous landmarks to exploring ancient caves and visiting markets, here are the best things to do in Mumbai in 1 day.

14 Best Things to Do in Mumbai in 1 Day

This itinerary is quite packed, so I recommend leaving early in the morning.

It’s good to know that #3 the Elephanta Caves, #6 the Prince of Wales Museum and #12 the slums are the most time-consuming places to visit in Mumbai. It all depends on your personal pace and interest, but I would suggest picking just one or two of these places so that you don’t have to hurry.

1. See the Gateway of India

Gateway of India in Mumbai

The Gateway of India is one of India’s most famous landmarks . This monument was built in Indo-Saracenic style in 1924. It commemorates the landing of King George V and Queen Mary, who were the first British monarchs to visit India in 1911.

Later, this arch-formed monument was used as a symbolic ceremonial entrance for the Viceroys and the new Governors of Bombay. The Gateway of India overlooks the Arabian Sea, making it a good place for a symbolic entrance to the country.

Not that as this is Mumbai’s most popular tourist attraction, it tends to be quite crowded and if you’re a foreigner, people will ask for plenty of selfies!

Although the Gateway of India is impressive, my favourite thing about the place was the view of the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, which brings me to my next point.

2. Check out the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel

Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai

You cannot miss this majestic building when you’re at the Gateway of India (#1 on this list). This is from where you will have the best view of the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel .

This luxurious hotel opened its doors in 1903 and, as you might have guessed, it was named after the famous Taj Mahal . Over the years, it has housed many famous guests, including presidents and movie stars.

The building in which the Taj is set is truly magnificent, and it’s good to know that, even if you don’t stay there, you can still visit the hotel’s shops and restaurants. There’s an entrance on the right side of the building.

3. Head to the Elephanta Caves

Elephanta Caves in Mumbai

Located on Elephanta Island, the Elephanta Caves is a UNESCO World Heritage site right off the coast of Mumbai.

This small island is home to a collection of cave temples mainly dedicated to the Hindu god Lord Shiva. They date back to the mid-5th to 6th centuries AD and they’re full of beautiful rock-cut stone sculptures.

You can take a ferry from the Gateway of India (#1 on this list) to reach the Elephanta Caves. Do note that it’s a 1-hour boat ride to reach the island and you will have to make the journey back too. So, this is quite a time-consuming place to visit.

I decided to skip the Elephanta Caves because I only had 1 day in Mumbai and I was on a budget (a ticket costs 600 INR for foreigners + 260 INR for the ferry). I visited the Bandra neighbourhood instead, which is a nice alternative if you’re on a budget too (but more about this later).

4. Have lunch at Leopold Café

Leopold Café in Bombay

Located just a 10-minute walk from the Gateway of India, Leopold Cafe is one of Mumbai’s most iconic cafes . It opened its doors in 1871 and was named after King Leopold of Belgium , although Iranis opened it.

This cafe gained popularity after it was mentioned in the famous novel Shantaram and its sequel, The Mountain Shadow by Gregory David Roberts, and it’s a great place to take a break, have a drink or eat something. I had cheesecake here and it was delicious.

Sadly, Leopold Cafe was also a target during the Mumbai terrorist attacks of 2008 , and 10 people lost their lives here. The restaurant was severely damaged during the attacks but it has been restored.

5. Pass by Regal Cinema

Regal Cinema in Mumbai

Regal Cinema is just a 5-minute walk from Leopold Café (#4 on this list) and this is one of Mumbai’s oldest movie theatres . It opened its doors in 1933 and it’s one of the few old-style movie theaters that still operates in the city.

If you’re looking for a fun activity in the evening, going to the movies in Mumbai is one of these Indian travel bucket list experiences and Regal Cinema is a great choice. After all, Mumbai is the city where Bollywood movies are made.

6. Visit the Prince of Wales Museum (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangralaya)

Prince of Wales Museum in Bombay

If you’re a museum lover or a history buff, the Prince of Wales Museum, now called Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangralaya (but that’s a mouthful), is one of the best places to visit in Mumbai.

This museum was founded by the British in the early 20th century and showcases the history of India from prehistoric to modern times . You will find thousands of artefacts here, which are categorized into three sections: art, archaeology and natural history.

Not only is this an interesting museum to visit, but the building it’s set in is quite spectacular too. It was designed in an Indo-Saracenic style of architecture by Scottish architect George Wittet.

7. Take a stroll in Oval Maidan and see the High Court and University

Oval Garden in Bombay

Oval Maidan is a 15-minute walk from the Prince of Wales Museum and this is a nice place for a short stroll. This is a recreational ground where locals love to hang out and play cricket.

The High Court of Bombay and the University of Mumbai are located right next to Oval Maidan and these are some pretty impressive pieces of architecture. Both of these buildings date back to the 19th century and they’re worth checking out while you’re there!

8. Pass by the Flora Fountain

Flora Fountain in Mumbai

The Flora Fountain is just a 10-minute walk from Oval Maidan (#7 on this list) and it’s on the way to the Victoria Terminus (#9 on this list).

Although this is not one of these places in Mumbai that you absolutely have to see, it is a nice place to stop by if you’re in the neighbourhood. If you’re short on time, however, skip it.

Built in 1864, the Flora Fountains depicts the Roman goddess of flowers (Flora) and it’s surrounded by some beautiful heritage buildings.

9. Admire the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus ( Victoria Terminus)

Victoria Terminus in Bombay

The Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus is one of these places that you cannot miss, even if you’re in Mumbai for just 1 day! This is my favourite piece of architecture in the city.

Formerly called the Victoria Terminus, this train terminus was built by the British in 1887 and it’s a UNESCO World Heritage site. It was built in Victorian Revival architecture with some traditional Indian elements blended into it.

Make sure not to miss the BMC building while you’re here (though it would be hard to). This 19th-century building is located right across the Victoria Terminus and it’s quite impressive too. BMC stands for Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and this is the governing civic body of Mumbai.

10. Visit Crawford Market

Crawford Market in Bombay

One of the best things to do in 1 day in Mumbai is to visit one of the city’s markets. Crawford Market, for example, is very close to the Victoria Terminus (#9 on this list) and this is one of the city’s best places to shop.

You will find anything here, from fruits and spices to beauty products and jewellery. This may just be the perfect place to find some nice Indian souvenirs !

Do make sure to negotiate the price before buying something here (you might want to do some research on how much something costs too) because vendors will quote very high prices if you’re a foreigner.

11. Stop by Dhobi Ghat

Dhobi Ghat in Mumbai

Dhobi Ghat is one of the most unique places to visit in Mumbai! This is believed to be the world’s biggest outdoor laundry place . There’s a similar place in Kolkata , but I found out about it too late. I will make sure to visit it next time I’m there, though, because I loved visiting Dhobi Ghat in Mumbai.

Mumbai’s Dhobi Ghat opened its doors in 1890 and, ever since, washers have been cleaning clothes and linen from hotels and hospitals here. If you visit the place in the early afternoon, you will see how the clothes are hanging outside to dry.

Dhobi Ghat is located right next to the Mahalaxmi railway station, so it’s pretty easy to reach. You will have a good view of the ghat from the station’s bridge.

12. See the slums

Slums of Mumbai

Mumbai is home to Asia’s largest slum – Dharavi , and it’s possible to visit this place. This has become an increasingly popular thing to do ever since the movie Slumdog Millionaire came out.

Visiting slums is a bit controversial, though, and there are pros and cons to it. On one side, it can help boost the economy if done ethically, but it can also feel a bit voyeuristic.

I chose not to visit the slums of Mumbai, as I have visited many slums in the past ( Jamestown in Ghana , for example, was a great experience) and I’m not sure how I feel about Dharavi becoming more and more of a tourist attraction. This being said, I saw some slums when I took the train in Mumbai. You will see some around Bandra Station, for example.

It’s completely up to you whether you visit Mumbai’s slums or not, though. In all honesty, if I hadn’t visited so many slums already, I would have visited Dharavi. It’s estimated that over 50% of the population of Mumbai lives here , so it will give you a better understanding of what life is like for many people in this city.

Although you can visit the slums by yourself, if you go on an ethical tour, the money will be used to benefit the people who live there. This is a nice way to give something back to this community.

Note that it takes around 2,5 hours to visit the slums. So if you have just 1 day in Mumbai, it’s better to skip the Elephanta Caves (#2 on this list) and/or the Prince of Wales Museum (#6 on this list) if you decide to head here.

13. Watch the sunset at Marine Drive

Marine Drive in Mumbai

Marine Drive borders the Arabian Sea and it’s home to a long promenade which is a popular place to watch the sunset. Head to the Queen’s Necklace , from where you will have a view of Mumbai’s skyline, for the best view.

If you’re in Mumbai for just 1 day, I wouldn’t do as I do and not plan to walk the entire promenade. This is a 3.6-km long walk I slightly underestimated when I was in Mumbai. Although it is a nice place, I think the area around the Oval Maiden and Flora Fountain is a better place for a stroll. It will give you a better understanding of what Mumbai is all about too.

Note that, if you’re visiting the Queen’s Necklace for sunset, you probably won’t be the only one there as this is Mumbai’s most popular sunset spot. This being said, India is famous for being the world’s most populated country and being one of India’s major cities, there are no quiet sunset spots in Mumbai.

14. Relax at Chowpatty Beach

Chowpatty Beach in Bombay

Chowpatty Beach is argued to be one of the best beaches in Mumbai and this is a nice place to relax a little after a busy day of exploring.

If you come here in the evening, the beach will be full of food stalls and locals enjoying some time off with friends. This is a nice place to soak up the atmosphere and end your day in Mumbai.

Note that swimming is strongly discouraged at Mumbai’s beaches because the water is very polluted.

If You Have More Time

Street Art in Bandra, Bombay

How long it will take to visit the places mentioned above depends on your personal pace, so if you have more time (or if you would like to switch things up a little according to your interests), the following places are worth visiting too:

  • Mani Bhavan: This is the house where Mahatma Gandhi lived from 1917 to 1934. It has been turned into a museum where you can learn more about this freedom fighter’s life.
  • Bandra: Often called the “Queen of Suburbs”, Bandra is the place where Bollywood actors, models and celebrities live. I strolled around this neighbourhood for a couple of hours and loved it!
  • Mumbai Film City: Mumbai Film City is the place to be if you would like to visit Bollywood film sets. It’s good to know that this place can only be visited by guided tour .
  • Four Seasons Rooftop Bar: If you would like to have a magnificent view of Mumbai’s skyline, the Four Seasons Rooftop Bar is the place to go! This is not the most affordable place to have a drink, but the view surely makes up for it.

I visited Haji Ali Dargah and the Siddhivinayak Mandir too, and if you’re short on time, these are places I would skip. Haji Ali is incredibly crowded and a little difficult to reach, and I think there are more impressive Hindu temples than the Siddhivinayak Mandir in India.

Haji Ali Dargah in Bombay

How to Get Around Mumbai

Many of the places mentioned in this post are within walking distance of each other. Some, however, are a bit further away. You can reach them by:

  • Taxi: Taking a taxi is the easiest way to get around Mumbai. I use the Ola app , which works just like Uber, to book taxis in India because taxi drivers tend to charge foreigners 10 times the normal price.
  • Train and metro: The Mumbai train and metro are super cheap. This is a good option if you’re on a budget, but it is a bit time-consuming.
  • Scooter or bicycle: If you feel comfortable driving in Mumbai yourself, you can rent a scooter or a bicycle for the day. This is a fun and sporty way to explore the city.

As this itinerary is quite packed, I would recommend taking a taxi to reach places that are further away. You could also hire a taxi for the day, this will help you save some valuable time.

If you would like to walk or get around using the train, I would either skip the Elephanta Caves or the Prince of Wales Museum as these are the most time-consuming activities in Mumbai.

Note that there are no rickshaws in South Mumbai but you will find these in other neighbourhoods.

Best Time to Visit Mumbai

The best time to visit Mumbai is in the winter, between October and February . This is when the weather will be at its best. I visited Mumbai in January and, although it was pretty hot, it was manageable.

You will find an overview of the weather that you can expect during each season below:

  • Winter (October to February): This is the best time to visit Mumbai. You can expect temperatures around 30°C (86°F) during winter.
  • Summer (March to May): Summers are hot and humid in Mumbai. While the temperature is similar to during the winter (32°C or 89.6°F), it feels much hotter due to the humidity.
  • Monsoon (June to September): While the monsoon season is slightly cooler (28° or 82.4°F), it’s very humid and on top of that, there will be a lot of rain, which can cause floods.

Where to Stay in Mumbai

There’s an abundance of hotels and hostels in Mumbai BUT this is the most expensive city in India , so if you’re on a tight budget, a dorm will probably be the best option.

If you only have 1 day in Mumbai, I recommend staying in Colaba (South Mumbai) or Bandra. This is where most tourist attractions are located. It all depends on your budget, but you will find my top recommendations below:

  • Taj Mahal Palace Hotel (⭐ 9.1,$$$): This is Mumbai’s most iconic hotel, and if you’re looking for a luxurious stay in the City of Dreams, this is the place to go! It’s located right across the Gateway of India and features magnificent rooms with sea, city or pool views.
  • Residence Hotel Fort (⭐ 8.3, $$): Ideally located within walking distance of Mumbai’s main tourist attractions, Residency Hotel Fort offers beautiful, clean rooms, and a delicious breakfast. It has all the amenities you might need.
  • Locomo Mumbai (⭐ 8.4, $): Located in Bandra, close to Juhu Beach, this hotel offers affordable dorm rooms as well as private rooms. The place is clean, the rooms are nice and the location is great.

1 Day in Mumbai: Final Thoughts

And voila, that was it, my complete itinerary for 1 day in Mumbai! I hope that this post has inspired you and that you will have an amazing time exploring this bustling city.

Although you could easily spend a week in Mumbai and explore different neighbourhoods every day, one day will give you just enough time to see this city’s highlights.

Happy exploring!

48 Hours in Mumbai

48 Hours in Mumbai: The Perfect Itinerary

full day trip in mumbai

Pierre Ogeron / Getty Images

Mumbai, the city of dreams, is India's financial capital and home of the Bollywood movie industry. It's also India's most diverse and extreme city —extending from cosmopolitan and carefree to crushing poverty. One of the country's richest businessmen lives in Mumbai, in a 20-floor tower estimated to have cost up to $2 billion to build. Yet, the city also has one of the largest slums in Asia.

With a current population of more than 20 million people, it's hard to comprehend that Mumbai was once seven sparsely inhabited islands before the British began developing it in the 19th century. Since then, the city has evolved into a complex mix of skyscrapers and swanky shopping malls, Gothic-style British heritage buildings , and age-old infrastructure such as the dhobi-ghat (a massive, manual open-air laundry that was set up in 1890 to service the city's English and Parsi immigrants).

This itinerary for 48 hours in Mumbai incorporates the city's extremes to provide an engaging exploration of its various sides.

One of the best things about Mumbai is that cabs are plentiful and usually go by the meter, without quoting inflated prices for tourists. This means that you can readily follow the itinerary without having to hire a car and driver for the day. Uber is another convenient and inexpensive option, if you're using your cell phone in India.

Day One: Morning and Afternoon

 Vatsal Shah / TripSavvy

Morning: Arrive in Mumbai and check into your accommodations, preferably somewhere in the Colaba or Fort tourist districts of south Mumbai. If you'd like to stay in luxury , the iconic Taj Mahal Palace and Tower Hotel is ideal. Otherwise, choose from these top cheap hotels and guesthouses or budget hotels in Mumbai.

Noon: Head over to Leopold Cafe on Colaba Causeway for lunch. Possibly Mumbai's most famous restaurant, it has been in business since 1871 but rose to notoriety in Gregory David Robert's epic book Shantaram , published in 2003. The restaurant was also a target in the 2008 terrorist attack on the city, and it's still possible to see the bullet holes in the walls. A mix of Indian and Continental cuisine is served, but you'll be going there for the atmosphere more so than the food.

2 p.m.: Spend some time browsing through the street market that lines Colaba Causeway . It's a popular place to shop for all kinds of items including inexpensive junk jewelry, clothes, shoes, handicrafts, books, crystals and incense. Make sure you haggle to get the best price ! If shopping at boutiques is more your style, don't miss Clove The Store ( 2 Churchill Chambers, Allana Road ), which recently opened in Colaba's atmospheric Art Deco quarter. This fashion and lifestyle concept store stocks products from a variety of Indian designers, plus Ayurvedic wellness brands.

3 p.m.: Stroll along Colaba's picturesque Strand Promenade (officially renamed as P. J. Ramchandani Marg) from the Radio Club to the Gateway of India. The left side is flanked by crumbling Colonial mansions, while the right side borders the Arabian Sea.

4 p.m.: Splurge on an elaborate high tea at the Sea Lounge of the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower hotel ( Apollo Bunder, opposite the Gateway of India ). This regal heritage hotel dates back to 1903 and oozes history. As its name suggests, the Sea Lounge has expansive sea views across Mumbai Harbour and the Gateway of India.

Day One: Evening

5 p.m.:  Take a cab along Marine Drive towards Girgaum Chowpatty (about 20 minutes away) in time for sunset. This city beach is an evening  hangout spot for Mumbai's residents , who flock there to watch the sun evocatively disappear behind the posh Malabar Hill skyline and munch on snacks from the stalls. Try some  bhel puri, pav bhaji , or  vada pav— classic Mumbai street food. If you're concerned about hygiene and would prefer to sample local fare in a restaurant, Vinay Health Home ( Jawar Mansion, Dr BA Jaikar Marg, Charni Road ) is clean and renowned for its vegetarian Maharashtrian cuisine.

7 p.m.:  Take a cab to  Kala Ghoda  in the Fort area of south Mumbai and wander around this atmospheric arts district. Although the  Jehangir Art Gallery  and Museum Gallery close by 7 p.m., many shops stay open until later.  Sancha Tea Boutique  ( Store 2A, 11A Machinery House Kala Ghoda, Fort. Opposite Trisha restaurant. Closes at 9 p.m. ) is a must-visit for tea lovers.  Kulture Shop  ( 9 Examiner Press, 115 Nagindas Master Road, Kala Ghoda, Fort. Closes at 8 p.m. ) sells unique products by leading Indian graphic artists and is one of the the  top places to buy handicrafts in Mumbai.  Funky fashion and lifestyle store  Chumbak  ( 141 Sassoon Building, M.G. Road, Kala Ghoda, Fort. Next to Khyber restaurant. Closes at 9 p.m.)  also has colorful prints. If you're interested in handwoven Indian clothing and home products,  Fab India  ( 137 Jeroo Building, M.G. Road, Kala Ghoda, Fort. Closes at 8.30 p.m. ) is next to Chumbak.

9 p.m.  There are numerous options in the area for dinner, depending on your palate.  Khyber  ( 145, M.G. Road, Kala Ghoda, Fort ) has won awards for its traditional Northwest Frontier cuisine and has regal Afghan-inspired interiors. The south Indian coastal cuisine at  Trishna  ( 7 Saibaba Road, Kala Ghoda, Fort ) is among the best in Mumbai. Nearby in Colaba, there are some outstanding fine-dining restaurants serving global cuisine.  The Table  ( Kalapesi Trust Building, opposite Dhanraj Mahal, below Hotel Suba Palace, Apollo Bunder ) is highly recommended. Or, if you'd prefer somewhere relaxed and lively, landmark Cafe Mondegar ( Metro House, Colaba Causeway ) has a jukebox and beer.

Day Two: Morning

TripSavvy / Ivey Redding

6 a.m.: Rise and shine early to experience the city as it wakes up (and beat the insane traffic jams). The easiest way to do so is to take a tour, such as this Good Morning Mumbai tour offered by Mumbai Magic. It covers vibrant Dadar wholesale flower market, washing activity at the dhobi ghat , a drive past British heritage buildings with magnificent architecture, and Sassoon Docks to see the fishing trawlers return and get unloaded.

9 a.m.: Feeling hungry? The Pantry ( Yeshwant Chambers, Military Square Lane, near Trishna restaurant, Kala Ghoda, Fort ), Kala Ghoda Cafe ( Bharthania Building A Block, 10 Ropewalk Lane, opposite Trishna restaurant, Kala Ghoda, Fort ) and Bake House Cafe ( 43 Ropewalk Lane, Kala Ghoda, Fort ) all serve delicious gourmet western-style breakfasts, tea, coffee and juice.

10 a.m.: Check out the diverse exhibits at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya ( 159-161 M.G. Road, Fort. Tickets: 500 rupees for foreigners and 85 rupees for Indians ), Mumbai's main museum.

11:20 a.m.: Take a cab to Churchgate railway station (about 10 minutes away) to see the renowned dabba-walas in action. They exit the station between 11.30 a.m. and noon, carrying huge trays of tiffins to be delivered to Mumbai's office workers for lunch.

Noon: Have lunch at nearby Gaylord restaurant ( Mayfair Building, Veer Nariman Road, Churchgate ) if you'd like to eat north Indian or Continental cuisine, or Samrat ( Prem Court Building, Jamshedji Tata Road, Churchgate ) for a traditional vegetarian Gujarati thali (platter).

Day Two: Afternoon and Evening

Vatsal Shah / TripSavvy

1 p.m.: Take a cab to Banganga Tank ( Walkeshwar Road, Teen Batti, Malabar Hill ), about 20 minutes away. It's the oldest continually inhabited place in Mumbai, making it one of the most remarkable places to learn about the city's history. You may wish to hire a guide for a tour of the area.

2:30 p.m.: See what's up for grabs at Chor Bazaar , Mumbai's infamous thieves market ( Mutton Street, Kumbharwada, near Mohammad Ali Road . Closed Fridays ). This fascinating 150 year old market has more antique and vintage items than stolen goods, nowadays. However, you won't believe all the stuff that's available there!

4 p.m.: Visit Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum ( 91 A Rani Baug, Veer Mata Jijbai Bhonsle Udyan, Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Marg, Byculla East. Tickets: 100 rupees for foreigners and 10 rupees for Indians ) and have afternoon tea at the Museum Cafe. This nostalgic, small museum opened in 1857, and is the oldest in Mumbai. It has been beautifully restored and showcases the cultural heritage of the city.

6 p.m.: Enjoy a cocktail or champagne during happy hours at chic Aer bar ( Four Seasons Hotel, Dr. E. Moses Road, Worli ), while taking in the mesmerizing panoramic views from the 34th floor. It's one of the highest bars in Mumbai.

8 p.m.: Head to the Kamala Mills compound in Lower Parel for dinner at The Bombay Canteen or Farzi Cafe . Once occupied by the city's cotton mills, which proliferated there in the early 1900s, this sprawling industrial area has been redeveloped into Mumbai's hottest dining destination. Both restaurants are highly regarded for their inventive contemporary Indian cuisine. Do reserve a table well in advance!

Day Three: Morning

8 a.m.: Drop into Yazdani Bakery ( 11/11A Cawasji Patel Street, Fort) , one of the oldest Parsi cafes in Mumbai, for chai and brun maska (buttered crusty bread roll). It's freshly baked in a wood-fired oven. The hearty apple fruit pie is also delicious.

9 a.m.: Go on a guided walking tour of Mumbai's massive Dharavi slum . Far from being voyeuristic poverty tourism, the tour gives amazing insight into this inspiring community and its thriving small-scale industry, and shows what people can achieve despite their challenging conditions. You'll be impressed!

One of the most popular Dharavi tours is offered by Reality Tours and Travels (900 rupees per person). It departs from Churchgate railway station daily at 9.15 a.m. Part of the proceeds are used to support Dharavi residents. There's the option to have a home-cooked lunch with a local family afterwards if you wish. Do bring extra money for shopping, as you can buy everything from leather goods to fabric at great prices, made by Dharavi businesses.

India is a country with naturally lofty hills, as well as two huge mountain ranges: the Western Ghats and Himalayas. This makes India a perfect land for paragliding. For those living or visiting the western reaches of India, Kamshet and nearby destinations are the ideal spots of paragliding, in Maharashtra. Kamshet is a beautiful destination located at about 110km from Mumbai and 45km from Pune that is decked with the beauty of the Sahyadri Ranges and valleys.

After a quick briefing session by instructors about the activity, a group of professionals help gliders get adjusted onto the paraglider. Once that's done, the fun begins! The experience of the picturesque view of Sahyadri Ranges and the cool breeze brushing against gliders makes the adventure more thrilling. The short fly will be for 5 to 6 minutes depending on weather conditions. You will get to enjoy a birds-eye view of the beautiful hills. Priyadarshini Park and Sports Complex is a clean and well-maintained sea-facing attraction in South Mumbai. Located in one of the sophisticated localities, this Napeansea Road park overlooks many expensive apartments on the street. Every nook and corner of this 20 acres land has now become a powerhouse to keep the heart of Mumbai pumping. For more than 3 decades, this wonderland has served as a recreational site, and sports and fitness complex. Visit here early in the morning to witness the magic of this refuge for the inhabitants of Mumbai.  Also, Mumbaikars do not forget to visit here in the early monsoons to sit on its sea-facing end and seek a delight with the sound of soothing waves. Once, this piece of land was merely a rocky patch of the coastal area of Malabar. What you see today is a gorgeous lush green garden lined up with a total of 600+ coconut trees. With a perfect and well-maintained ambiance, this park is a boon for early morning yoga, jogging, walking, aerobics, and so on. The credit, of course, goes to its active group – the Malabar Hill Citizen Forum, who looks after it as its own child. You can connect with their authorities to be an annual member of the plethora of recreational sports activities that they organize. In addition to pumping the adrenaline of youth with its recreational touch, Priyadarshini Park of Mumbai also serves as an ideal family outing location and a lover’s point. This sightseeing place in Mumbai is one of the largest aquariums in the city of Mumbai. Situated in Marine Drive, this aquarium was founded by D. B. Taraporewala, a Parsi philanthropist, in the year 1951. The aquarium has a twelve feet long three-sixty degrees glass tunnel that holds interesting marine life. Babulnath

Whenever you are visiting Mumbai, Babulnath Shiva temple is a must-visit for inner peace and tranquillity. It is one of the oldest temples in Mumbai, which increases its importance in the eyes of the loyal devotees. Its walls are specially carved with limestone that depicts the Hindu mythology, which travellers find it exciting at the first look. At this temple, the beautiful marble flooring is specially brought down from Rajasthan. Thus, each step you take inside this temple feels royal and enchanting along with the daily devotees you can meet and greet, dressed in Indian attires. So, every moment spent in this temple is blissful with internal peace and devotion. Moreover, you can witness devotees from different corners of the world who love to pay their tribute to Lord Shiva and other idols.Once you enter the holy temple revered by so many Hindus and locals, you can find sculptures and idols of Lord Ganesha, Lord Hanuman, and Nandi with Kashyap. We would also advise you to buy a basket outside the temple steps before entering. This basket will bring joy, happiness and fulfil all your wishes once you pay your heartfelt worship to Shiva and other lords like Durga Mata and Goddess Parvati at the centre of this temple.  If you have any doubts regarding the same, you can always ask devotees around you or the priest to know how to get the prayer done with the basket that you buy.On the other hand, idols of Goddess Parvati and Durga Mata are respectfully placed in the centre of this temple. What’s even more special about this temple is that around 4 times a day, prayers for Lord Shiva are recited here. This temple gets approximately a lakh devotees for Darshan during the Mahashivratri. The whole scenario is a sight to behold and capture in your hearts to narrate stories about back home.

15 Best Day Trips from Mumbai

Mumbai is a sprawling, monstrous city that seems to be constantly expanding and almost never-ending.

It’s a place of history, culture, and too often, mayhem as well.

While the city is a must-visit place during any trip to India, the size, scale, noise, and pollution of Mumbai can be all too overwhelming, all too quickly.

Luckily, the city does end, and in the surrounding area – outside the urban mass of apartments and suburbs and slums – you can easily escape Mumbai for the day to find some peace and refreshing, clean air along the way.

There are plenty of interesting day trips to make – from exploring ancient Buddhist caves to adventuring into India’s very own wine region.

There are beaches, waterfalls and national parks to discover, amongst much, much more.

Here are our favorite day trips to make from Mumbai.

1. Elephanta Caves

Elephanta Caves, Mumbai

The Elephanta Caves are a spectacular and intriguing UNESCO World Heritage Site that’s found just a short journey outside of the city center of Mumbai.

The caves are found on Elephanta Island – located in the Mumbai Bay – which was used as an important religious site by Buddhists and then Hindus.

The caves are cut from the rock itself.

Inside the many different, ancient caverns can be found an array of sculptures and inscriptions that depict Hindu epics and deities.

Even today, the caves are a place of worship and pilgrimage for many Hindus in the Mumbai area, and you can expect to experience a colorful display of culture and religion when you visit.

Recommended tour : Half-Day Mumbai Elephanta Caves Tour

Jain Temple, Nashik

Nashik is located a few hours to the northeast of Mumbai and makes for a wonderful day trip away from the city.

This is an area of rolling hills and lush, green valleys.

Importantly, though, Nashik is also India’s premier wine-producing region.

Although many visitors may not be expecting to find fine wine when they visit the country, in Nashik, they are guaranteed to be pleasantly surprised.

Wine production here is a relatively new art form, but already the locals of Nashik are competing with the biggest international players.

There are several wineries to visit, with the most popular being the Sula Winery – is the nation’s largest and most well-known domestic wine producer.

You can call in for tastings and to see the vineyard in action.

Available tour : Nashik: Private Full-Day Wine Tour with Tastings From Mumbai

Murud Janjira fort, Alibaug

Alibaug is found overlooking the ocean to the south of Mumbai.

There are great connections – by road, train or ferry from Mumbai – making this the perfect place to spend the day.

Alibaug is known for its variety of beaches and unique seafront; surrounding the town are many stretches of sand – from black sand beaches to extreme tidal areas.

A favorite tourist spot is the Kolaba Fort, which is built a few kilometers out from the shore; it has long played a historic role in the region.

Spend the day enjoying the sights and lounging on the beaches, but make sure you stay for the sunset before returning to Mumbai, as the sunsets over Alibaug are some of the most beautiful on the coast.

4. Matheran

Matheran Hill Station

Matheran is a small hill station that has become one of Mumbai’s most loved day trips.

Matheran, in stark contrast to Mumbai, has been declared pollution free.

This charming hill station has banned all cars, and being 88 meters above sea level, offers a much-needed respite from the humid, polluted city below.

To get here, you must take the train, as no private vehicles are allowed in the town itself.

There are many other forms of transport inside the town though, from handcarts to rickshaws, but really, the best way to get around is to hike along the spectacular trails that offer dramatic viewpoints out over the surrounding green, landscapes.

5. Kanheri Caves

Kanheri Caves

Just to the north of Mumbai’s center, you can find the historic Kanheri Caves.

Located within the boundaries of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, this is a vast complex of over one hundred caves, many of which have been shaped and carved by hand over centuries into the shape they are today.

The area was originally used by Buddhists – as far back as the 1st century BC – and then Hindu worshippers added their own layers of sculpture and worship to the caves.

A lengthy, rock-hewn staircase leads to the cave entrance, which you will find is impressively pillared and hewn straight from the rock itself.

It’s a mammoth feat of engineering that will leave you bewildered and humbled.

Recommended tour : Kanheri Caves: 5-Hour Excursion from Mumbai

Karnala, India

Karnala is a small area of protected land that’s found extremely close to the city of Mumbai, making it an excellent location to escape the chaos of the city and find some small level of solitude.

Karnala is home to a bird sanctuary, which, although very tiny in area – just a few square kilometers – is full of wildlife and greenery.

There are hundreds of species of bird that flock to Karnala, and many hikers and outdoor lovers are drawn here for the wild beauty too.

The sanctuary is found around the remains of an ancient fort that stands atop a huge pinnacle of rock, making for a dramatic sight.

The fort can be reached along a lovely trail that will take you through the bird sanctuary and to the top of the peak.

7. Pawna Lake

Pawna Lake, India

Pawna Lake is found close to the city of Pune, to the southeast of Mumbai.

It’s an excellent outdoor location, perfect for hiking, strolling, picnicking, or simply relaxing and enjoying the calm, tranquil waters.

Although it’s artificial, you will find it is still very much a beautiful, green and outdoorsy place to visit.

A favorite local hobby in the area is to bring a tent and camp out under the stars, to wake up to the lapping waters in the morning.

It’s definitely a place that’s worth a trip from Mumbai, even if it’s just for the day.

Aga Khan Palace, Pune, Maharashtra, India

Pune is another sprawling city, so if you are looking for a relaxing escape from Mumbai, then this might not be the best place to visit.

If, however, you are looking to experience one of the most fascinating cities in this part of India, then a day trip to Pune is very much worth it.

This is a historic place – home to the world famous Aga Khan Palace, a lavish display of wealth and power that dates back to the 19th century.

It’s also the site of the Gandhi National Memorial, where the great man’s ashes are preserved.

There are plenty of old forts and museums to visit, while there is a real mix of ancient culture and modern India is visible across the city.

9. Lonavala

Lonavala, India

Lonavala is a place that’s really like few others near Mumbai.

This beautiful hill station is almost dream-like, with misty mountains and green rolling hills that stretch for mile upon mile.

If you arrive straight from Mumbai, the clean air and cold climes will shock you as much as the spectacular landscapes do.

There’s plenty to do in the hill station and the surrounding area, from visiting the ancient cave system of Karla to the dramatic peaks and cliffs that can be hiked.

10. Khandala

Khandala

Khandala is another beautiful hill station that’s actually found just a few miles away from Lonavala.

This town is found at an elevated height, overlooking a scenic, green, and misty valley.

It’s a real favorite for those from the nearby cities who are looking to enjoy a spot of hiking; there are some great walking routes that lead to panoramic viewpoints.

Kashid, India

Kashid is found along the coast to the south of Mumbai.

This beachside town is a great place to spend the day relaxing on white sands and enjoying the sea.

This is a quiet spot – at least in comparison to Mumbai – and there are even a few resorts where you can get food or enjoy a drink, or spend the night if you really want a longer break from Mumbai.

Vasai, India

Vasai is a city to the north of Mumbai, found on the other side of the Vasai River.

The city is full of colonial relics, including the famous Vasai Fort, which was built hundreds of years ago by the Portuguese.

13. Silvassa

Silvassa

Found to the north of Mumbai, Silvassa is a unique city to visit; for years, this was a Portuguese colonial city.

There are still a lot of remnants of Portuguese rule, and a very distinct history waiting to be discovered.

The surrounding area has many natural wonders too, including some incredible waterfalls.

14. Rajmachi

Rajmachi, India

Rajmachi is an old ruined fort that’s found in a breathtaking location atop verdant, green cliffs.

The fort was an important defensive structure against the British when they began their conquest of India, but ultimately, it fell.

It’s now a protected monument and well worth a day trip from Mumbai.

15. Trimbak

Trimbak, India

Trimbak is a fantastically cultural town that’s found away from Mumbai, close to the nearby town of Nashik.

Trimbak is the site of Trimbakeshwar, a Hindu temple that holds an incredibly sacred place in the religion.

It’s very much an important pilgrimage site and held to be very sacred.

As such, the whole town is a culturally vibrant and exciting place to visit.

It was meant to be the “trip of a lifetime” — partying at Coachella and then surfing and camping along the gorgeous Pacific coast of Baja California, Mexico.

Callum Robinson, 33, an Australian former college lacrosse star with chiseled abs and a flowing mane of hair worthy of Chris Hemsworth, was met by his little brother, Jake, 30, who flew in from the Land Down Under.

His pal Jack Carter Rhoad, 30, an apparel designer in San Diego, also tagged along.

Callum and Jake Robinson were identified as two of the three dead bodies discovered in Mexico on Friday.

But their made-for-social-media journey appears to have ended in tragedy. Mexican authorities believe their bodies are the ones pulled the bottom of a 50-foot well in a remote part of the Mexican state.

Police believe the three were carjacked — and then summarily executed.

Three suspects are in custody — a local man, his girlfriend and his brother.

All three allegedly had meth on them, and the woman was carrying a cellphone belonging to one of the victims, according to local media reports.

The Robinsons and Rhoad were reported missing last Saturday after they failed to arrive at their Airbnb in Rosarito, a beach city about 15 miles from the US border.

They were believed to have been camping at popular surf spot La Bocana in the Mexican countryside, some 130 miles south of San Diego.

The state prosecutor told Australia’s 7News that there’s evidence that the three men resisted their attackers, and that’s what led to their murders.

“When they tried to get the vehicle, the victims opposed the robbery, the robbers were armed with a firearm and apparently shot the victims,” Baja California’s chief prosecutor María Elena Andrade Ramírez  told the outlet.

American Jack Carter Rhoad was on a surfing trip with his two Australian friends when he vanished Saturday.

Investigators had originally suspected foul play upon finding abandoned tents in the area, the attorney general of Baja California  said Thursday.

They also found a burned white pickup truck — similar to the white Chevrolet Colorado the men were driving, according to a missing persons poster.

Mexican officials have not officially confirmed that the three bodies are Rhoad and the Robinson brothers, but said there was a “high degree of probability” that they were executed.

Multiple sources confirmed their identities to Reuters this week, however.

Callum Robinson moved to the US in 2013 to pursue a lacrosse career, in which he played for Stevenson University and later won the NCAA’s Division III lacrosse championship.

Robinson’s alma mater paid tribute to its standout star, who started in 65 of the 66 games he appeared in from 2013 to 2015.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our dear teammate and friend, Callum Robinson,” the team announced on Facebook. “From his days leading us to victory on the field to his unwavering commitment to academic excellence, Callum was a true inspiration to us all.”

Callum later played for the Australian Men's national team and Atlas LC in the PLL.

The Maryland-based school remembered Callum Robinson for “his infectious spirit and larger-than-life personality.”

“With his beautiful long hair and charming smile, he truly embodied the nickname ‘big koala’ — warm, friendly, and always there to lend a helping hand,” the school said.

“Though he may be gone, Callum’s legacy will live on in our hearts forever. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. Rest easy, Callum. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.”

The three men were driving a white Chevrolet Colorado pickup during the surfing trip.

Following his collegiate career, Callum was drafted by the Chesapeake Bayhawks as the 27th overall pick in the 2015 draft for the now-defunct Major League Lacrosse.

He went on to play for Australia’s Men’s National Team and joined the Professional Lacrosse League , where he started 11 games for Atlas LC and even traveled with the team for the 2019 championship series in Utah.

Jake Robinson, who was set to start a new position at a hospital in Geelong, Victoria, Australia, was remembered by his parents as a “gentle soul.”

Three Mexican nationals — Jesús Gerardo Garcia Cota, alias El Kekas, his partner Ari Gisel García Cota, and Jesus’ brother Cristian Alejandro Garcia — were arrested in connection to the disappearance, but haven’t been charged with murder.

“It should be noted that the rapid intervention of the [police] allowed three people to be under investigation, and currently an arrest warrant was obtained before the criminal courts of the State Superior Court of Justice for the crime of forced disappearance of people,” the Baja California state attorney general said in a statement.

The attorney general’s office said it was working with the FBI and the US and Australian consulates.

A fourth body was found in the well where the three missing surfers were discovered. Authorities believe it is the decomposed remains of a rancher who owned the property, who was reported missing two weeks earlier.

Karen Read murder trial jury visits Canton crime scene, hears from first responders on Day 4 of testimony

By Neal Riley , Matt Schooley

Updated on: May 3, 2024 / 6:14 PM EDT / CBS Boston

DEDHAM – Karen Read's high-profile murder trial  resumed Friday morning in Dedham, Massachusetts with witness testimony from first responders and a jury visit. Read is accused of killing her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O'Keefe, and leaving him to die outside a Canton home.

Canton firefighter-paramedic Katie McLaughlin continued her testimony when proceedings got back underway Friday morning. She took the stand  on Thursday before the judge ended court for the day.

After McLaughlin's testimony, jurors were bused to the Canton home where O'Keefe's body was found. Jurors got a close up look at Read's Lexus SUV.

Karen Read SUV

Prosecutor Adam Lally told jurors, "I'm going to ask you to take note of sort of the center console and the front driver's compartment of that vehicle."

Part of the interior and the back right taillight have been removed from the SUV.

The judge did not allow Read to accompany the jurors to the Canton scene, citing security concerns. As she left court Friday morning, Read gave a brief comment to reporters about what the jury will see. "They'll get a very good perspective," she said.

They returned to court for more testimony in the afternoon from Canton firefighter and paramedic Gregory Woodbury.

Firefighters testify to Read's "up and down" emotional state

Woodbury testified that Read kept repeating "is he dead?" and "seemed very concerned about that."

"She was very up and down ... her emotional state was all over the place," he said.

Canton firefighter and paramedic Daniel Whitley said Read referred to O'Keefe as her husband.

"She made threats against her life, saying I don't want to live anymore if my husband dies, I don't want to be alive anymore," he recalled.

Canton firefighter Jason Becker testified that Read told him she and O'Keefe had been fighting. "She had said that they had gotten into an argument," Becker said. "She was sad because that was the last thing she had said to him."

"We know the truth," said Karen's father, William Read outside court. "My daughter was factually innocent and it's tough for me to hear some of this."

First responder's relationship with Alberts questioned

McLaughlin had testified Thursday that she heard Read repeatedly say "I hit him" outside Brian Albert's home where O'Keefe's body was found. The defense on Friday zeroed in on McLaughlin's relationship with Albert's daughter, Caitlin.

McLaughlin acknowledged she went to high school with Caitlin Albert. Read attorney Alan Jackson asked if they were friends and showed McLaughlin pictures that he said showed her and Albert together on group beach trips.

katie-mclaughlin.jpg

"I would consider myself more of an acquaintance. We have mutual friends. I wouldn't consider her a close friend," she said.

Who is Karen Read?

Read is a 45-year-old Massachusetts woman who was dating O'Keefe at the time of his death in 2022. She is accused of hitting O'Keefe with her SUV during a snowstorm.

Prosecutors have charged Read with second-degree murder, manslaughter while operating under the influence of alcohol, and leaving the scene of personal injury and death.

Read has pleaded not guilty in the case. Her attorneys argue that she is being framed.

What has happened so far in the Karen Read murder case?

This has been the first week of testimony. Witnesses began to take the stand after opening statements were presented on Monday.

So far, the prosecution has called two members of O'Keefe's family and several of the first responders who were on scene when O'Keefe's body was found in the snow.

Much of the first responder testimony has focused on what the witnesses heard Read saying at the scene.

Several witnesses, including McLaughlin, testified that they heard Read say "I hit him." Read's defense attorneys have attempted to show during cross-examination that some of the first responders have given inconsistent statements about the morning O'Keefe's body was found.

"We are bringing the possibility of space to kids everywhere with opportunities like the SpaceKids Press Squad.

"My flight to space alongside my husband, Marc, was life-changing, and we can't wait for these eight lucky kids to experience an out-of-this-world adventure, too! We hope to inspire a new generation of space explorers and future leaders to pursue STEAM careers," Hagle continued.

Here's the details of what each winner will receive if selected:

PARIS (AP) — Chinese President Xi Jinping kicked off a three-country trip to Europe on Sunday with the continent divided over how to deal with Beijing’s growing power and the U.S.-China rivalry.

European carmakers are losing ground to subsidized Chinese electric vehicles . Diplomats fret about alleged Chinese spies in European capitals. And China’s continued defense trade with Russia worries anyone in Europe who supports war-ravaged Ukraine and fears that the Russian army won’t stop there.

But Europe and China have hefty economic ties — EU-China trade is estimated at 2.3 billion euros per day — and Xi appears determined to rebuild and deepen relations with European leaders after a prolonged absence prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Xi started Sunday in France, whose president wants Europe to have more economic and strategic independence from other world powers. Then the Chinese president heads to Serbia and Hungary, both seen as China-friendly and close to Russian President Vladimir Putin, and recipients of substantial Chinese investment.

Xi’s trip will be closely watched in Washington for signs of diminishing European support for its key foreign policy goals. At the same time, there’s increasing uncertainty in Europe about future U.S. support for trans-Atlantic allies.

Xi was greeted at Paris’ Orly Airport by French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal — and by protests by groups demanding that France pressure China to respect Tibetan and Uyghur minority rights. Activists seeking a free Tibet attempted to unfurl a banner Saturday beneath the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, and protested in the French capital around the same time as Xi’s plane landed.

After arriving, Xi said he hoped the visit would bring ‘’strategic convergence’’ between China and France, and that further developing their relations would contribute to ‘’stability and positive energy in an turbulent world,’' according to a text provided to reporters at the airport.

On Monday French President Emmanuel Macron will treat the Chinese leader to formal honors of a full state visit. They will also meet with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who is expected to join Macron in pushing for fairer trade policies and for China to use its leverage with Russia to push it toward ending the war in Ukraine.

The EU launched an investigation last fall into Chinese subsidies and could impose tariffs on electric vehicles exported from China.

China claims neutrality in the Ukraine conflict but has refused to call the full-blown Russian assault on its neighbor an invasion, and has been accused of bolstering Russia’s capacity to produce weapons.
