AFI Reschedule 2022 ‘Bodies’ Tour Dates to Fall
UPDATE: AFI have, for the most part, rescheduled their "Bodies" tour to the fall of 2022 . In a statement, the band wrote: "Given the current challenges that we are still facing at this stage of the pandemic, we have come to the very difficult decision to postpone The Bodies Tour to the fall of 2022. With Covid cases still on the rise, we fear that we will not be able to complete the tour the way it is currently scheduled, and moving it will hopefully give us a better chance to see it through to its entirety."
They added, "Because our Los Angeles shows do not require us to travel, these 2 dates will still be taking place in March. We will also be adding a new show in Anaheim, CA on 10/25 and Ventura, CA on 11/25 to the itinerary. We thank you for your understanding, and we hope you hold onto your tickets for the fall. Please contact your point of purchase if you have any questions." See all of the newly rescheduled dates listed below.
AFI fans will have a little longer to wait until the band tours the U.S. again, but you can now start to plan as the group has announced the first leg of the "Bodies" tour kicking off in February 2022.
The band is hitting the road with Cold Cave opening dates on the upcoming run. The tour is set to launch Feb. 11 in San Diego, wrapping just a few miles up the coast in Los Angeles on March 25 after traversing the country. All dates, venues and cities can be seen listed below.
Fans can currently RSVP for the tour and get pre-sale information for each date by visiting the band's website . Tickets will go on sale to the general public this Friday (June 25) at 10AM local time, though the band's Despair Faction fan club will have access to a pre-sale starting Wednesday (June 23) and there will be local pre-sales on Thursday (June 24).
The tour comes in support of AFI's newly released album, Bodies , which is currently available here . The band has steadily offered previews of the album throughout 2021, with the songs "Twisted Tongues," "Escape From Los Angeles," "Looking Tragic," "Begging for Trouble," "Dulceria," "Far Too Near" and "Tied to a Tree" all arriving prior to the record's June 11 release.

AFI Announce 2022 US Tour in Support of New Album Bodies
The 26-date outing kicks off in February with openers Cold Cave
AFI have announced an early 2022 US headlining tour in support of their new album, Bodies .
The trek kicks off on February 11th at SOMA in San Diego and hits most major US markets before concluding with a two-night stand March 25th and 26th at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, California. Darkwave act Cold Cave will be along for the 26-date outing.
“So anxiously, we’ve awaited the ability to perform our eleventh record for you,” AFI vocalist Davey Havok said via a press release. “This winter, please join us in the Bodies celebration long overdue.”
Tickets for AFI’s 2022 US tour go on sale Wednesday, June 23rd from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. local time for fan club members. Local pre-sales start Thursday, June 24th from 10:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m. local time, with official on-sale beginning Friday, June 25th at 10:00 a.m. local time. Visit Ticketmaster to purchase tickets, or check here for deals.
AFI have evolved over the years, starting out in the ’90s as a hardcore act, then delivering a string of melodic hard-rock radio hits in the early 2000s. On Bodies, the band has embraced a gothic pop sound inspired by bands like The Cure and Depeche Mode. While some fans of earlier material might feel alienated, the artistic shift has opened up AFI’s music to a new realm of listeners. Tapping Cold Cave in the support slot is a sign that AFI have fully embraced the darkwave scene that appears to have influenced the sound of Bodies .
“Anyone who knows our catalog knows that no two records really sit together,” guitarist Jade Puget stated in regards to the stylistic changes. “Some sit a little closer, maybe. We do certain things, just by virtue of who we are, that are consistent, but those things come about organically. Every time we do something, I have to judge it on its own merits. Some fans are going to judge a new album, or a new song, based on what’s come before. But as artists, we can’t do that, because it would only hinder our creativity.”

AFI Announces 2022 U.S. Tour
AFI will embark on a U.S. tour in early 2022. The "Bodies" trek will kick off on February 11 in San Diego, California, and wrap up on March 25 in Los Angeles, California. Support on all shows will come from COLD CAVE .
"So anxiously, we've awaited the ability to perform our eleventh record for you," says AFI 's Davey Havok . "This winter, please join us in the 'Bodies' celebration long overdue."
Tickets go on sale Friday, June 25 at 10 a.m. local time.
AFI 's latest album, "Bodies" , was released on June 11 via Rise Records . Havok told Forbes that he wants to play "all" of the LP's songs live. "I'm really looking forward to trying 'Dulceria' live. There's a track called 'Tied To A Tree' that I'm very curious to hear how that will develop in a live forum. 'Begging For Trouble' is a really, really fun one for me. I'm looking forward to that. Honestly, all of them. This is a record that I'm very, very happy about and very much looking forward to play. I would go out and play the album front to back. That would be fun for me. That won't happen. We don't do that. But that would be fun."
Havok also discussed the challenges of making "Bodies" during the coronavirus crisis.
"When COVID hit, we had plans to release and tour the record," he said. "And those were halted. It was tough for me to be sitting on this record that I loved so much, and like it or not, we would inevitably have to release it or we wouldn't have to, but I felt inevitably that the group would want to release it before we would be able to play on it. And that's what's happening. So that's tough. That schedule allowed us to put out a record without the scheduling of a tour. But for me, that's hard because the performance of the music means so much to me. Now, of course, I know that doesn't mean that we won't be able to perform these songs at some point. These songs, they won't go away. But it is a surreal circumstance for me to, for the first time, in my life as a musician release music into a void with no live realization of that music. It is weird."

AFI never stepped into the mainstream; the masses came to them. The platinum success of Sing the Sorrow blazed a path for a generation of hardcore-punk weaned bands to similarly crossover. 2006's Decemberunderground upended expectations again and earned AFI a second platinum plaque. Crash Love was another adventurous turn, with expansive and almost optimistic-sounding melodies, glistening with emotion. The haunting Burials arrived four years later, debuting in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200. The self-titled follow-up, commonly referred to as "The Blood Album," became AFI's second-highest charting album since their inception, debuting at No. 5 in 2017. After the release of AFI (The Blood Album), the band was hardly content to rest on its laurels, AFI then released yet another highly-praised addition to their discography, 2018's The Missing Man EP. On June 11, 2021, the band released their highly anticipated 11th studio album, Bodies. Critics have hailed Bodies as ranking high in AFI's body of work, with the likes of SPIN praising the band for "fusing some experimental new steps into the tried and true AFI formula," and calling their music "one of the most distinct and recognizable sounds today." Kerrang! praised the band's continual inventiveness, saying that "Throughout, even during the more familiar-sounding songs, keyboards and electronic beats pop up, leaving the whole thing with a feeling of gutter-glitter that underlines Davey’s intent with the soul of it." AFI's unshakeable connection with their audience is a testament to the band's knack for reinvention, renewal, and exploration, anchored by an unblemished authenticity. AFI songs are embedded in the spiritual DNA of a legion of supporters and Bodies is further demonstration of AFI's unwavering commitment to artistic exploration, a dark conjuration of an uncapturable muse. The album was produced by the band's own Jade Puget, mixed by Tony Hoffer (M83, Phoenix, Silversun Pickups), and mastered by Vlado Meller (Oasis, Pink Floyd).”

The band recently shared a video for Bodies highlight “On Your Back,” which was filmed during the recording of their BBC Radio 1 session and aired on Radio 1’s Rock Show with Dan Carter .
The band initially summoned a steady subcultural groundswell in the mid-90s, devoid of careerist ambitions. It first made music as teenaged misfits in an obscure Northern California town, steadily assembling a dense catalog over the years marked by its diversity and authenticity.

So, grab some tickets and get your bodies here, it's going to be an epic way to start 2022, the Californian punks AFI have never been a band to stick in one place for any great length of time, but this time they have fully committed to the post-punk that they dabbled in on, The Blood Album. As for Cold Cave as the main supporting artist, they also have, Fate In Seven Lessons, a dark synth-pop seven song EP, that’s brand-new too.
Bodies, the eleventh studio album by AFI, released on June 11, 2021. Coming in at the 36 spot on the Independent Albums and the 33 spot on the Top Album Sales charts, according to AFI frontman Davey Havok, the album was written in early 2020, prior to COVID-19 lockdowns, which had no impact on the album, apart from delaying its release and subsequent tour, as it was ready all the way back in April 2020. The album marks the band’s first full-length release since their self-titled, Blood, album in 2017, and, true to form, they don’t pull their punches, seamlessly incorporating elements of ’80s goth rock and synth-pop into their signature brand of post-punk, AFI dish out somber edge with outright elegance. Post-punk band, A Fire Inside, consists of lead singer Davey Havok, drummer and backing singer Adam Carson, bassist, backing singer and keyboardist Hunter Burgan, and guitarist, backing singer and keyboardist Jade Puget. The band first gained commercial success with their fifth album, The Art of Drowning, in 2000, which came in at the number 174 on the Billboard 200, they followed it with their sixth studio album, Sing the Sorrow, in 2003, which finally launched them into punk stardom, coming in at the number 5 spot on the Billboard 200 chart.

AFI: Bodies Tour 2022 at Fillmore Auditorium
Afi tickets, fillmore auditorium | denver, colorado, event rescheduled to friday 18th november 2022. originally thursday 17th march 2022. all original tickets are still valid.
Goth-punk heroes AFI continue to mature and change, their brand-new album, Bodies, is out now! AFI the Bodies Tour 2022 comes to Fillmore Auditorium on Thursday, March 17th 2022 with very special synth pop guests, Cold Cave. Marching snare’s and galloping guitar’s abound in the new album from AFI, you would have to be a few days cold to not enjoy this new offering, so, grab thy tickets now before you turn. Cold Cave as the main supporting artist, are the brainchild of former hardcore band, American Nightmare, vocalist Wesley Eisold has joined the tour after their newest release, Fate In Seven Lessons, a dark synth-pop seven song EP.
Bodies, instantly feels familiar, in a reassuring way, and not just because five of its 11 tracks have long been available. Like The Blood Album, Bodies saves its most experimental moment for the final track, the extraordinary industrial lullaby “Tied To A Tree” is the album’s high point by several thousand feet. Bodies, is the eleventh studio album by AFI, released on June 11, 2021. A Fire Inside formed in 1991 consisting of lead singer Davey Havok, drummer and backing singer Adam Carson, bassist, backing singer and keyboardist Hunter Burgan, and guitarist, backing singer and keyboardist Jade Puget. They have released eleven studio albums, ten EPs, one live album and one DVD, gaining commercial success with their fifth album, The Art of Drowning, from 2000, peaking at number 174 on the Billboard 200, followed by their sixth studio album, Sing the Sorrow, from 2003, which finally gained them fame, coming in at the number 5 spot on the Billboard 200 chart.

Jade Puget – AFI ‘An Evolution That Isn’t A Linear Journey’
Posted on June 9, 2021 by Cait Mac
Last month my life changed forever (not even being dramatic), and I got the chance to tick off one of my bucket list interviews. I was due to speak with Hunter Burgan , bassist of AFI â so exciting. The time for the interview comes andâŠ. Jade Puget, guitarist, songwriter and producer, joins me instead. Wild! Somehow the fact I was quietly shitting myself doesn’t come across, and we have a great chat about AFI âs constant evolution, their new album Bodies , Paul McCartney and the possibility of Keith Richards outliving everyone.
We start with the obligatory COVID-19 question and how the band has fared, they’ve obviously not had too bad a year.
âItâs hard to complain about things that happen to your band in the greater scheme of things with people losing their lives. Everyone that’s in a band has definitely had their careers upended, but we’re all still alive, we’re all still healthy.
Our record was finished right before the lockdown happened, so we just pushed everything back like a year and a half. It sucks, but when you look at the perspective of what’s been happening, it’s not that big of an imposition. So now we’re finally releasing the album; It’s exciting to finally have it see the light of day.â
A word that seems synonymous with AFI is evolution- each one of their albums shows growth and change within the band. Jade and I discussed where Bodies sits in the AFI story. I suggest it seems like a more sleek and cool adult albumâ the album you want to be when you âgrow up.’ Jade laughs;
âWell, thanks, I guess we’ve been adults for a long time now, so it’s about time we made an adult record, I suppose.â
In terms of where Bodies sits in the band’s evolution story, Jade says;
âIt’s hard to say because the evolution of AFI isn’t a linear journey. Even though I write all the music and produce it, I don’t know what this next step will be. I like that it’s an adult albumâ I can appreciate that, it means we have matured musically. There are sounds on here that weâve never made before. I want to push the story forward like a shark; you gotta keep moving, gotta keep swimming.â
To me, Bodies has a retro, 80s feel with lots of synth and throwback sounds. I question if that was intentional or if it just ended up that way in the process:
âItâs funnyâ I’ve actually heard that a lot over the years with AFI albums. I never try to do retro stuff â I’m just such a child of the 80s. A lot of my musical tastes and discoveries were made in that era; it’s just such a part of me that I can’t help it. Davey [Havok] and I both love that era, and we’re so fundamentally influenced by itâ it’s just always there.â
This leads to my next question â have AFI found the fountain of youth because they are all in their forties but look like they’re still in their twenties, living their best lives? Jade laughs a lot at this and replies with:
âWell, I’m actually forty-seven, so thank you. Part of it is clean living, I thinkâ we haven’t succumbed to the Keith Richards type lifestyle. It works for him though, because he’s become sort of pickled and mummified. I honestly think he’s going to outlive me, so good on him.
But I think we’re very lucky to do what we doâ play rock music for a living; I never take that for granted. So I think that is something that helps keep us preserved; we get to live our best lives every day, which not a lot of people can say.â
I take this opportunity to tell Jade the story of my good friend who, as a teen, realised the party lifestyle wasnât necessarily for him and thought about being straight edge. Then he saw AFI when they toured Australia in 2006, and seeing a band he looked up to living the way he wanted to, solidified it for him and heâs been edge ever since.
âThat’s cool! When we were teenagers, we saw bands like Minor Threat, Youth of Today, Earth Crisis and bands from the New York scene that were sort of espousing those same beliefs. So we had the same experience as he did seeing bands that we loved, and they were living this lifestyle that we wanted to try to see if it worked for us, and it just so happened that it did.â
Getting back to the album, I explain that even though I am so happy to be speaking to Jade, I had prepared for Hunter. Jade laughs and says he can pretend to be Hunter if I want to ask some bass questionsâ which is what I do. I explain that my ears hone in on bass lines, especially in AFI songs, and they are my fave parts of many songs. On Bodies , it seems like the bass is mixed louder than in previous releases. I ask Jade if this was intentional.
â There’s a lot of great bass grooves on this record, and it’s always our intention when mixing a record to have everyone be audible. Sometimes it works better than others, like on Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes; the bass is nonexistent. So on this one, Tony Hoffer mixed it, and he’s a great mixer, and he was able to make everything sing and be clear.
I’m the same way with the Beatles; if you ever hone in on Paul McCartney’s bass playing, it’s outrageous. What a bass playerâ heâs insane.â
We joke that we could both keep chatting about the Beatles and Paul McCartney forever but it’s not necessarily why weâre here so we won’t. At the time of the interview, I hadnât heard the entire album (I have nowâ no spoilers, read my review here ), but everything I had heard single-wise was incredible. I tell Jade I instantly became obsessed with âDulceriaâ and quiz him about if he has a favourite track or if thatâs like picking a favourite child?
â Usually, it is like picking a favourite child, but on this record, I’ve been really drawn to âTied To A Treeâ. There’s something about that song. We were actually shooting a video for it last night. It was an incredible experienceâ I’ve never experienced anything like it, and Iâve shot many, many videos over the years.
Two different people had to leave the soundstage to cry, like literally cry. And these weren’t AFI fansâ just people working on the setâ they may not even listen to us. Something about the song and the visuals was affecting people. It was a really weird and cool experience.â
At the time, I’d not heard âTied To A Treeâ , but it was released just after our chat so I have now and what a different song! I canât wait to see the film clip. Speaking of film clips, I focus my attention to the âLooking Tragicâ music video and ask if it was as fun to shoot as it looked.
âIt was hectic. We were filming outside, and it was just going to be us filming in this little tinsel area. By the time I started doing my part, the wind became so insane that it was blowing over the walls and the equipment. So all that chaos and hectic energy was real, people were trying to hold up stuff so it wouldn’t fall over, and the tinsel was blowing all in our faces while we’re trying to play. So it lent this chaotic energy that translated well for the song.â
As with the albums and band, the film clips have evolved over the years. We talk about the difference between videos for Decemberunderground and Bodies songs, for example.
â Yeah, like âDulceriaâ, that video is very minimal. I often don’t like our videos, but that one I really like. There’s not much happening, but it captured the vibe well. Going back to earlier videosâ in the mid-2000s and before that, we had these insane budgets for videos, and that doesn’t mean you’re going to make a good video. It’s about having a good idea, and you can still make a good video with a smaller budget if you put some art into it.â
This leads me to ask how long Jade thinks AFI will keep going and add that I hope it’s for a very long time.
âI’ve been in the band for almost 22 years, so I’m the new guy. We never thought to the next year or the next record, just that moment. If you had told me I would be still in this band in 2021, it would’ve blown my mind. I think the fact that we’re making music that isnât the same, we’re not remaking Black Sails, we’re still trying to push the envelope, so weâre still invested. If we ever get to a point where there’s nothing left in the tank, and we’re just resting on our laurels, then that’s a time to hang it up. Hopefully, thatâll never happen, and I will die holding my guitar and just keel overâ thatâs the way I want to go.â
I suggest that because the band dabbles in side projects like Blaqk Audio and experiments with different sounds and styles it would help them stay invested. I question if there is a sound or style Jade hasnât yet tried that he wants to.
âOver the course of the lockdown, I was stuck at home, and I have a little home studio, so I’ve been writing insanely. I’ve written a huge amount of new AFI songs that I haven’t even played for anyone yet, even the band. I don’t even know if they’re going to like them, but I’ve been excited about it.
It’s once again a new direction, an AFI that hasn’t been before, but maybe the AFI that we should or could have been. Maybe the songs suck though, I’m the only one that’s heard them, and it’s always a risk. Our fans are very understanding and they’ve been along on this journey with us for a long time and have accepted our musical perambulations. But at some point, it might be âOKâ you went too farâ I’m jumping offâ.â
This leads me to (cheerfully) interogate him about the fabled iPod with hundreds of unreleased AFI songs and if those songs will ever be released.
â We always say so. And it’s funny, the classic iPod that’s become this cult status thing, frickinâ died yesterday. I have the songs; theyâre not lost, but the classic iPod fricken died, and I’m kind of distraught.
Every time we put out a new record, we’re like, we gotta put some of these unreleased songs on this new record because they’re so good. And then it’s always like all-new material. Davey and I are incredibly prolific, but that doesn’t mean that everything we’re writing is gold; there’s a lot of chaff in there. But there’s some great songs that I love, and I wish they could see the light of day. But I have a feeling I’ll probably die, keeled overâ guitar in hand, and these songs will just be lost on my computer, and it’ll just go into a landfill someday and hundreds of AFI songs will never be heard. Maybe that’s just the nature of life; I didn’t mean to get so existential there.â
Jade jokes that it’s 2021, and heâs only just giving up using an iPod and only because it diedâ it turns out the enigmatic iPod has been used daily right up to its death.
âMy process is that I work all day on music, and then I put it on my iPod and go for a walk in the evening to review because you get fresh ears. So the iPod is where I collected all the stuff that only I had access to, so I could review it and make notes, and it became the de facto vault for AFI unreleased material.â
Let’s hope the band can Frankenstein the device without losing any of the key components that fans have been so eager to get their hands on. To end, we quickly chat about how much Jade is enjoying Ru Paulâs Drag Race Down Under and that his wife is a huge fan of Aussie reality shows like The Bachelor. Bless!
Honestly, I canât believe this is my life!

I look forward with to seeing what gems we uncover in this yearâs impressive line-up and wish them all the best of luck in attracting the attention they deserve.â
Briony Hanson, the British Councilâs Director of Film, says: âLooking back over the six previous editions of GREAT 8, itâs gratifying to see the heights that many of our former picks have risen to (not least that two of them, Fyzal Boulifa and Rungano Nyoni, will be taking the Croisette by storm with their latest projects in the Cannes selection next week). This yearâs line-up has knocked us out again â a rich collection of voices, styles, and subjects that makes us proud ofâŻââand excited aboutâŻââ UK film in 2024.â
