Tripmeter (km or mi.)

This mode indicates the distance of individual trips selected since the last tripmeter reset.

The meter's working range is from 0.0 to 999.9 miles.

Pressing the TRIP button for more than 1 second, when the tripmeter is being displayed, clears the tripmeter to zero (0.0).

Type A

Distance to empty (mi.)

This mode indicates the estimated distance to empty based on the current fuel in the fuel tank and the amount of fuel delivered to the engine. When the remaining distance is below 30 miles, “---” will be displayed and the distance to empty indicator will blink.

The meter’s working range is from 30 to 1500 miles.

  • If the vehicle is not on level ground or the battery power has been interrupted, the “Distance to empty” function may not operate correctly. The trip computer may not register additional fuel if less than 6 liters (1.6 gallons) of fuel are added to the vehicle.
  • The fuel consumption and distance to empty values may vary significantly based on driving conditions, driving habits, and condition of the vehicle.
  • The distance to empty value is an estimate of the available driving distance. This value may differ from the actual driving distance available.

Type A

This mode calculates the average fuel consumption from the total fuel used and the distance since the last average consumption reset. The total fuel used is calculated from the fuel consumption input.

For an accurate calculation, drive more than 0.03 miles (50 m).

Pressing the TRIP button for more than 1 second, when the average fuel consumption is being displayed, clears the average fuel consumption to zero (--.-).

If the vehicle speed exceeds 1.6 MPH (1km/h) after being refueled with more than 1.6 gallons (6 l), the average fuel economy will be cleared to zero (----).

Type B

Instant fuel economy (if equipped) (L/100 km or MPG)

This mode calculates the instant fuel consumption during the last few seconds.

Type A

Driving time

This mode indicates the total time traveled since the last driving time reset.

Even if the vehicle is not in motion, the driving time keeps going while the engine is running.

The meter’s working range is from 00:00~99:59.

Pressing the TRIP button for more than 1 second, when the driving time is being displayed, clears the driving time to zero (00:00).

Type A

Manual transaxle shift indicator ON/OFF (if equipped)

You can turn the shift indicator on/off on the instrument cluster in this mode.

If you push the TRIP button for more than 1 second in the ECO ON mode, ECO OFF is displayed in the screen and the shift indicator turns off.

If you want to display the shift indicator again, press the TRIP button for more than 1 second in the ECO OFF mode and then ECO ON mode is displayed in the screen.

My partner and I are driving cross country soon, and I’d like to keep track of how many miles we’re driving along the way. A friend of mine who knows way more about cars than I do says I should “reset the trip computer in our Kia Soul + odometer” and I have no idea what that means. Could you explain this to us?

On board computer reset.

  • Add to quote

Guys. I want to reset the computer to try and get it to work properly, now when I fill up, is it best to do a complete reset: 1. Stationary with the engine running. 2. Stationary with the car in "Accessory Mode" - Start/Stop button showing Yellow. 3. Stationary with the engine stopped & the Start/Stop button showing Green. I am just baffled why, when I picked the car up, that it showed a range of 369 miles, yet ever since it's been decreasing slowly but surely to now a full tank down to just 328 miles, which simply cannot be right. I've been filling it with V-Power or City Diesel + Millers Ecomax, driving it like a pensioner, in manual mode, it still makes not a jot of difference I cannot get the range to go up any further than 328, I'm kind of wondering how much lower it's going to go. At this rate I'll be filling up ½ way to Cornwall in the summer, that's if gets the chance because it won't be going there, it doesn't improve, it'll most definitely be going to the forecourt with a price label on it. Edited by: DrayTek

2013 kia soul trip odometer

You're getting the range that I was expecting, but clearly I'm not & I'm seriously concerned about it. Now if I'm driving like a granny/grandad, I should be getting more than 27mpg! I just don't trust that piece of crap as it seems to be wildly inaccurate. I've got trips to Somerset (Exmoor), Devon (Dartmoor) & possibly Cornwall to do & the last thing I want is to be stuck on a moor!

I don't overly trust that either... That's almost as erratic as the computer.

theres a warning light too

When i fill mine up it gives a range of 430 to 450 but actually does near on 600. The range seems to park for ages. I reset my trip meter and compare with the range output during the trip. I have got the 1.7 d

The thing that concerns me most is the computer says range 328, 338 at a absolute push, yet the fuel gauge sits at full, then stutters its way down after ~100 miles, then stops, then drops & so on. It's an unreliable guide, just as the computer is, that's why I'm trying to find a way of getting it to reset & to see if I can get it to be slightly more reliable & accurate. (Joke!)

What do actually get from a tank ?

So far the most I've had out of it is 300 miles before I lose faith in the electronics & make a dash to the pump! I just do not trust the car's electronics whatsoever. This is what's really spoiling the car for me, the complete lack of faith in it. Some may call it paranoia, but for me & my profession, I can't afford to be late or breakdown because of a duff computer/fuel gauge. Edited by: DrayTek

so how much fuel did you put in it. you should be able to work out how much is left in the tank.

Whatever it is to the top of the neck/filler. I don't really know! Last tank load was ~£72, but as I can't find the receipt I can't tell you for sure.

Kia really have to take these problems more seriously. Mines been great so far but I would like the dealers and Kia to give me some confidence that if a problem crops up they will sort it.

I agree, this does need to sorted out. If I were a female I wouldn't be very confident about this car at all, I need to be confident that I'm not going to breakdown through lack of fuel. Also there's the question about if you run out of fuel, what damage will it do to things like the fuel pump, which relies to an extent on the fuel to lubricate it, what damage will it do to the DPF?

you need to reset your trips and make note of how much fuel to put in car.when you next fill up make a noteof mileage .minus the top up from the size of tank.[in back of your manual]this will give you idea how much is left in tank. divide the mileage by the fuel you have used will give you mpg. multply this by what left in your tank ,this will give you the range left in the tank before refill. add this to what you have already done and this will be your full range. remember there is a low level alarm nomally about 1 gallon which normally gives you 50 miles to fill up

I wouldn't even let it get that low, I simply do not trust it! It's a horrible feeling not being able to trust your cars systems.

2013 kia soul trip odometer

DT: The Sportage has a tank of 58 litres (although some can get 63 litres in to the brim when absolutely dry) so you should have a range of somewhat over 400 miles between brimming refills (ooer, missus!).There are 4 means of working out how low your fuel is: Fuel Gauge; Trip Reading; odometer and fuel low warning light. You have an odometer which tells you how many miles the car has done in total since new. Just run for 400 miles from your last odometer reading, and try to ignore the fuel gauge needle and "range" readings, which are the ones causing you to worry. When you refuel 400 miles on, check how many litres go in to brim it. If you still feel the fuel is disappearing, do you have a leak in the tank? No liquid under the car parked overnight etc? And just to rule out the less likely, could someone be siphoning off your fuel, is the outer cover forceable? To give you peace of mind, carry a spare fuel can in the boot. We've only just got ours, but the fuel needle is obviously too inaccurate to be reliable. So far we've done about 680 miles in two weeks and has been fuelled virtually every other day. Dealer put in £30, then we added another £50; then £40 which took us all the way to Devon and partway back, when Mrs Axe thought we should refuel as down to between last notch and empty. Put in £20 and that took the needle to just under half full! Brimmed it on Saturday for £65 which was 44.25 litres. So the needle is not precise, but that's analogue displays for you. I'll be happier relying on the range till empty but I still cross check with miles since last refuel to check with my own estimates as to how low. Haven't run out yet on previous cars but did have one time when the C4P showed 8 miles left with petrol station 12 miles away and we still made it.

If I fill mine to the knock off, the trip tells me I have around 430 miles. However, I have found that I can get atleast another 2 gallon in after the knock off, if I do it slowly enough. The trip still shows about 430 ish miles though. This will then drop by about 1 mile in every 10, until i guess the fuel float starts to drop, and then the range will drop accordingly. Computer currently tells me i'm averaging around 52mpg, although i've never actually worked this out if I'm honest.

I've just reset the trip as i was coasting into the petrol station, it was showing an average of 84.6mpg. I've then put 50 ltrs in (11 gallon) and cycled through to remaining distance, which was 449 miles.. I drove a mile back to work, then atthe top of the works street, i reset the trip again, and gave it a lead foot for 50 yards to the car park. It's now showing 22.8mpg, distance to empty.. still 449 miles

keat99 said: 449 miles yesterday when I filled up, done 52 miles home and back to work, and it's now showing 437. Click to expand...

2013 Kia Soul Review

Has Your Car's Value Changed?

Used car values are constantly changing. Edmunds lets you track your vehicle's value over time so you can decide when to sell or trade in.

Edmunds' Expert Review

  • Loads of available features
  • user-friendly controls
  • ample passenger space
  • funky style
  • long warranty.
  • Limited cargo room versus a few competitors
  • stiff ride with 18-inch wheels.

For 2013, the Kia Soul sees just a handful of minor changes, which include newly standard Bluetooth connectivity for the manual-transmission base model, power-folding outside mirrors for the "!" trim level and revised Kia badges for all.

Edmunds says

The 2013 Kia Soul brings hipster styling and a fun-to-drive nature to the realm of the practical hatchback.

Cost to Drive Cost to drive estimates for the 2013 Kia Soul 4dr Wagon (1.6L 4cyl 6M) and comparison vehicles are based on 15,000 miles per year (with a mix of 55% city and 45% highway driving) and energy estimates of $3.55 per gallon for regular unleaded in North Dakota.

Vehicle overview.

The 2013 Kia Soul might be inexpensive, but this certainly doesn't mean it's cheap. Even for the entry-level model, you get solid build quality, a peppy direct-injected engine and an audio system that boasts satellite radio and an iPod hookup. Available two-tone interior color schemes, houndstooth-print upholstery and illuminated audio speakers bring welcome touches of personality not expected from cars in this price range. Furthermore, the more expensive versions of Kia's crossover offer even stronger performance.

As expected, the Soul scores well in the EPA's fuel economy testing, and an optional Eco package allows the 2.0-liter engine to achieve nearly the same mileage estimates as the 1.6-liter. The magic happens thanks to low-rolling-resistance tires and stop/start technology that automatically shuts off the engine when you come to a stoplight and restarts it as soon as you lift your foot off the brake pedal.

With such a compelling blend of style, practicality, affordability and features -- and let's not forget its 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty -- the 2013 Kia Soul stands firm as one of our top picks for a small hatchback. That said, there are other choices you might want to check out. If even greater cargo capacity is a top priority, we'd suggest checking out the Scion xB and Honda Fit . And if fuel economy or handling are at the top of your list, other good candidates include the Chevy Sonic and Ford Fiesta. But if you're looking for a car that's both funky and practical, it's hard to beat this overachieving little Kia .

Performance & mpg

The front-wheel-drive Kia Soul is offered with two different engines. The base Soul gets a 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 138 horsepower and 123 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is standard (including a hill-start assist function) and a six-speed automatic is optional. EPA mileage estimates stand at 25 mpg city/30 mpg highway and 27 mpg combined regardless of transmission choice.

Soul+ and ! models get a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that puts out a healthy 164 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque. Transmission choices are the same as the base model, but the Soul! is automatic only. In Edmunds performance testing, a Soul! went from zero to 60 mph in 8.8 seconds -- a strong time for this class. EPA-estimated fuel economy is 23/28/25 with the automatic and 24/29/26 with the manual (or if equipped with the Eco package). All of the Soul's fuel economy estimates are better than other funky hatchbacks like the Nissan Cube and Scion xB, but fall a bit short of more conventional small hatchbacks.

Standard safety equipment for all 2013 Kia Soul models includes four-wheel antilock disc brakes, stability control, traction control, front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags and active front head restraints. Hill-start assist is also now standard across the lineup.

In government crash tests, the Soul earned an overall score of four stars (out of five), with four stars for overall frontal impact protection and five stars for overall side impact protection. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the Soul its highest score of "Good" in its frontal offset, side-impact and roof-strength tests.

In Edmunds brake testing, a Soul! came to a stop from 60 mph in 120 feet, which is a slightly shorter than average distance for this segment.

With plenty of power on tap, the 2013 Kia Soul is enjoyable around town and confident when merging onto a freeway. However, while there's ample power with the 1.6-liter engine, we still think most buyers will be happier with the gutsy 164-hp 2.0-liter, especially since the difference in fuel economy is so small. Both the six-speed manual and automatic transmissions are well-matched to either engine.

In terms of handling, the Soul doesn't offer the sort of zippy agility found in the Chevy Sonic or Ford Fiesta, but the Kia isn't a soft snooze-mobile like the Nissan Cube either. The steering has a reassuring weightiness to its effort level at highway speeds, while the response proves crisp and linear on a twisting road. The brake pedal has a reassuringly firm feel. The ride is a bit firm over bumps and ruts, especially on models fitted with the handsome 18-inch cast-aluminum wheels.

Just because the 2013 Kia Soul is long on style doesn't mean it's short on practicality. With its modern look and pronounced center stack, the passenger cabin offers a nice balance between form and function. Quality materials and a useful amount of acoustic insulation help make the interior seem refined and relatively quiet, while details like the available two-tone houndstooth upholstery give the Soul more flair than similarly priced competitors.

Gauges and controls are logically located and intuitive to use, even when you take into account high-tech options like the voice-controlled Uvo infotainment system that allows you to control your cell phone, iPod and more with voice commands. The optional Infinity audio system's illuminated trim rings for the speakers flash to the beat of the music, and it's kind of fun.

One of the benefits of the Soul's boxy design is abundant head- and legroom, even in the backseat. Behind the rear seatbacks is 19 cubic feet of cargo room, which grows to 53 cubic feet with both sections of the 60/40-split rear seatbacks folded down. This is on par with many competitors, but those who need maximum schlepping capacity should consider the Scion xB's cavernous 70-cubic-foot cargo hold.

2013 Kia Soul models

The 2013 Kia Soul is a four-door hatchback available in three punctuation-inspired trim levels: base, + and !.

The base model's standard equipment includes 15-inch steel wheels, full power accessories, air-conditioning, a height-adjustable driver seat, cloth upholstery, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, a trip computer, Bluetooth phone connectivity and a four-speaker sound system with CD player, satellite radio, an auxiliary audio jack and an iPod/USB audio interface. When equipped with the optional automatic transmission, the base Soul gains keyless entry, rear privacy glass, cruise control and a height-adjustable driver seat.

The Soul+ includes all the above along with 16-inch alloy wheels (optional on base), heated mirrors, dash-top and center console storage bins, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, some faux metallic interior accents and two additional speakers. The available Audio Upgrade package adds automatic headlights, a rearview camera, the Uvo hands-free media player interface and an eight-speaker Infinity sound system with HD radio and tricolor speaker lights. The optional Eco package adds fuel-saving features like an automatic stop/start system, an upgraded battery and low-rolling-resistance tires. Also available is a sunroof bundled with foglamps.

The top-of-the-line Soul! adds 18-inch alloy wheels, a sunroof, power-folding outside mirrors, upgraded headlights, foglamps, LED daytime running lights, houndstooth pattern two-tone upholstery, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and the Audio Upgrade package. Optional on the ! is a Premium package, which adds keyless ignition/entry, leather upholstery, heated front seats, automatic climatic control and a navigation system with real-time traffic and a touchscreen interface.

What? No Trip computer on my 2020 Soul S?

2013 kia soul trip odometer

  • Add to quote

My previous car was a 2015 Soul +. It had a trip meter that kept an eye on MPG.It showed me how many MPG the current (and about toe be refilled) tank of gas has shown. My new Soul S doesn't have that option. I can choose to reset at refill or when the car is turned off or not to use it at all. The LCD display shows how many miles remain on the current tank of gas, but doesn't go back to zero at fill up... So I'm a confused mess trying to figure out MPG on a tankful of gas. Has anyone here worked around this confusion? If so please share tips. LOL! Thanks!

I can only speak for my EX, but the toggle in the center of the right hand spoke — by moving it either up or down will cycle the center display and show mpg and other information.

Gas Mileage Log and Calculator

www.vertex42.com

I'm still wondering about Rob's question. On the 2020, let's say you set Trip A to zero on a fill up of gas and want that to accumulate until his next fill up (say 395 miles). Does Trip A reset itself to zero after you turn the engine off each time? Or will it accumulate over days and weeks until he manually resets it to zero?

The trip computer on 2020s cycles through several screens using the ^v toggle. The "Accumulated Info" screen adds up over days and weeks until manually reset. This basically functions like an old-school trip odometer. There is another "Drive Info" screen as well, which also displays the distance, average MPG and time, but the info resets once per "ignition cycle," which the manual defines as 4 hours after the ignition is turned off. So you can make a trip with breaks or stops and it is considered one drive info cycle. You can manually reset the Drive Info as well if you want.

Thanks Citizen for the clarification!

FLHamster said: To go back to your question, Geo Soul, there are actually TWO trip meters on the 2020 Soul (at least on my LX) The first one you come to, by tapping the OK button, is the daily trip meter, so lets call that Trip A, and if you go one layer deeper you get to Trip B, which adds miles forever, or till you manually reset it by holding the OK button in for several Seconds. The Trip-A meter will reset sometime overnight so every morning it's back to Zero. Or, you can reset it anytime you want, by just displaying it and then holding in the OK button for several seconds. Thanks for the replies, even the snarky ones. I've read the manual, I've pressed and toggled... There is no 'Accumulated Info' screen... There is no way to zero the mileage like a trip meter. The computer only gives the miles available on the current tank of gas and recalculates a new number at fill up. I can write the total miles on the car, then refer to that number at the next fill up if I remember to keep the receipt...

After the last choice you can pick reset after refilling or reset when you turn off the car (or something like that.) or do not reset.

When you are on the Drive Info screen... pushing the OK switch towards up or down (^/v) should cycle through other screens, including Accumulated Info , Kia's name for the traditional trip odometer. And on either Accumulated Info or Drive Info , pushing OK inward for a second or two should reset the mileage to zero.

Driver Info screen is only on very briefly. When I press the OK switch nothing happens and then the screen closes to black.

Drive Info screen only shows up when I turn off the engine and it's only there briefly... I'll try your suggestion, though!

With the car on, use the Page button (Kia calls it the Mode button in the manual). It cycles through several modes. One of the modes is the trip computer.... which has four screens - digital speedometer, accumulated info, drive info, and fuel economy. So press the Page/Mode button several times until you see one of those four options. Then press OK up or down to see the other options. As you noted, the Drive Info does show briefly and automatically when you shut off the car, but that won't get you to the trip info. Use the Page/Mode button while the car is on.

Thank you CitizenKia and the rest of you! I'm relieved and happy!

Why does one trip meter reset daily?

  • Add to quote

My last several vehicles, including my bike have had two trip meters to record the miles driven. I would use one to check the fuel mileage on a tank of gas and the other one for the entire trip or sometimes between oil changes. However, with my Sorento, one does as the other have done and resets only when I do it manually while the other resets itself every day.. It is all zeros when I get in the car in the morning. Why? At first, I thought it was because I set it so the fuel mileage would reset itself on fill-ups but I changed it to manual and it still does it. Thanks for answering my stupid questions but this is my first Kia since I sold my 2011 Optima four years ago (best car I have owned so far)

My 2016 Sorento had two trip odometers A and B that you could reset as you like. With the 2019 one always reset automatically once your “trip” is done. If you stop for a few minutes it is still considered the same trip. If you park the car for several hours, when you start it again it is a new “trip.” Basically, they have dedicated the one trip odometer for an automatic “this very trip” tracking function. So when you turn the car off, it displays data about this trip.

Probably for those that, for whatever reason, keep track of their daily mileage.

I imagine they do it so it can display the trip info when you turn the car off

I had not thought much about it but I think the trip information comes up when I turn the ignition off.
