Norwegian Cruise Line’s Latitudes Rewards loyalty program guide: Everything you need to know

Gene Sloan

Showing loyalty to Norwegian Cruise Line can get you some great rewards.

Norwegian's Latitudes Rewards loyalty program, which was revamped in 2022 , offers members such enticing perks as discounts on normally pricey drinks packages, shore excursions and spa treatments after only a few sailings. And that's just a hint of what's to come for loyal cruisers who reach the program's top tiers.

At the very top tier of the Latitudes Rewards program, the Ambassadors level, members get one of the most spectacular rewards in the cruise loyalty program universe: A free cruise for two.

For more cruise guides, news and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter.

Other perks Norwegian doles out to higher-tier members include discounts of up to 25% on internet packages, free wine tastings and free dinners at high-end restaurants on Norwegian ships.

Ways to earn points

Earning points in the Latitudes Rewards program is relatively straightforward. You will get:

  • One point for every night you spend on a ship.
  • An additional 1 point per night when staying in a Concierge-level cabin, full-fare suite (not mini-suites or club balcony suites) or The Haven rooms.
  • An additional 1 point per night when on a cruise booked via a Latitudes Rewards Insider Offer. These are special offers for Latitudes Rewards members.

Note that the extra point per night for suites only applies to stays in suites booked when a reservation is originally made. It doesn't apply to stays in suites that result from an upgrade.

Program tiers and benefits

There are seven tiers to the Latitudes Rewards program:

  • Bronze (1 to 19 points)
  • Silver (20 to 44 points)
  • Gold (45 to 74 points)
  • Platinum (75 to 149 points)
  • Sapphire (150 to 349 points)
  • Diamond (350 to 699 points)
  • Ambassador (700 or more points)

The Latitudes Rewards program is one of the more robust cruise line loyalty programs, with some solid perks available to almost all members.

After just one cruise, as a newly minted Bronze member, you will receive a 30% discount on an unlimited open bar package — a perk that could save you a significant amount of money when cruising if you're a drinker. This perk was added in September 2022, much to the delight of Norwegian fans.

As a Bronze tier member, you'll also receive a 10% discount at onboard duty-free shops, early access to new product information and exclusive offers, a signature pin and a few other minor things.

ncl latitudes shore excursion discount

Moving up to the Silver level of the Latitudes Rewards loyalty program will bring all the above plus:

  • An invitation to a complimentary onboard cocktail party
  • A 10% discount on shore excursions
  • A 20% discount on photos
  • A 15% discount on spa treatments performed when the ship is in port
  • A higher 15% discount at onboard duty-free shops
  • A higher 40% discount on an unlimited open bar package

The Gold level bumps up the discounts on photos and spa treatments to 25% and 20%, respectively, and also brings:

  • A complimentary Flow Water carton
  • A 50% discount on a bag of laundry
  • Priority tender tickets (for applicable ports)
  • Priority disembarkation (U.S. citizens only)

As noted above, it'll take you just one cruise to reach the initial Bronze tier. Reaching the Silver level would require three seven-night cruises, assuming you stay in standard cabins. If you book suites or book only Latitudes Rewards Insider Offers, you'll reach the Silver level much faster.

Reaching the Gold tier can be done in as few as three seven-night cruises if you book a suite and also only book Latitudes Rewards Insider Offers. If you book standard cabins and don't use Latitudes Rewards Insider Offers, it would take five seven-night cruises.

The elite level that makes a difference

In our view, the Platinum level is where being a loyal Norwegian customer starts paying off.

Once you reach Platinum, you'll get all the above plus a 15% discount on internet packages, which is a great perk. Internet packages on Norwegian can be pricey.

Related: The 5 best destinations you can visit on a Norwegian cruise

ncl latitudes shore excursion discount

Another great perk at the Platinum level is access to two free dinners at some of the top restaurants on Norwegian ships on every voyage of five nights or longer.

Norwegian relatively recently expanded the value of this perk by making the free dinners available at more onboard restaurants. Previously, one of the free dinners, which included a complimentary bottle of wine, could only be booked at the Cagney's steakhouses and Le Bistro French eateries on Norwegian ships. Now guests can book it at any onboard restaurant that has a complimentary wine list. Guests can also book a second free dinner at a wider range of eateries.

Note that upcharges apply to certain premium menu items when taking advantage of the free dinner perk.

Platinum members also get:

  • Priority check-in and embarkation
  • Chocolate-covered strawberries delivered to their room
  • A Wines Around the World tasting
  • A behind-the-scenes ship tour
  • A higher 30% discount on photos
  • A higher 25% discount on spa treatments
  • A dedicated pre-cruise service desk

In addition, Platinum members can pre-book entertainment on ships 26 days prior to sailing. Platinum members also can pre-book dining 125 days prior to sailing and typically pre-book shore excursions one year prior to sailing.

Related: Why Norwgian's new Prima class of ships may be its best ever

It can take as many as 11 seven-night cruises to reach Platinum status if you stay in standard cabins. However, it also can be done in as few as four cruises if you stay in higher-level cabins and book using Latitudes Rewards Insider Offers.

Best elite perks

Once you reach the Sapphire level, you'll get all the above perks plus a dinner with ship officers and priority restaurant and entertainment seating (subject to availability). The latter is really a wonderful perk, as it means you won't be stuck dining too early or too late on nights when shipboard restaurants are busy (which is pretty much every night). It also means you can breeze into theaters for onboard shows with the knowledge that a decent seat is waiting for you.

Just added in early 2022, the Diamond tier brings two more cool perks, both new to the program: access to a complimentary Sail & Sustain Mixology experience and a one-time free cabin upgrade.

But the ultimate perk for Latitudes Rewards members comes upon reaching the top Ambassador tier. You'll get a one-time complimentary seven-night cruise in a balcony cabin. You can pick any destination, but you can't select a holiday sailing (Christmas and New Year's).

The free cruise is for two people. You can bring a third and fourth guest, but you'll pay their fares. You'll also pay all taxes, fees and service charges (including gratuities). You have one year to take your free cruise after hitting the Ambassador tier.

Sapphire, Diamond and Ambassador level members also get bigger discounts on shore excursions. For Sapphire and Diamond members, the discount on shore excursions amounts to 15%. It jumps to 20% for Ambassador level members.

Sapphire, Diamond and Ambassador level members also get bigger discounts on internet packages. For Sapphire members, the discount on internet service amounts to 20%. It rises to 25% for Diamond and Ambassador level members.

The Ambassador level, in particular, isn't easy to reach as it requires 700 points. That means you might have to take as many as 100 seven-night cruises to qualify. If you stay in higher-end cabins and book a lot of Latitudes Rewards Insider Offers, you could reach the Ambassadors level far more quickly — in as few as 34 seven-night sailings.

Do NCL Latitudes Rewards points expire?

No, Norwegian Cruise Line Latitudes Rewards points never expire.

As is often the case with cruise line loyalty programs, Norwegian customers do not have to requalify for status each year. Latitudes Rewards members keep their points at the end of each year and continue to accrue points indefinitely. That means that someone who hits Ambassador status will remain at that top-tier level forever (or until Norwegian makes a change to the program).

Such "forever status" is one of the great allures of cruise line frequent cruiser programs. Many airline frequent flyer programs, by contrast, require loyalty members to requalify for status each year.

Bottom line

Norwegian has one of the more alluring frequent cruiser programs. Even after just a few cruises, loyal fans will find they are entitled to a nice array of valuable perks, from discounts on various types of onboard spending to exclusive cocktail parties. We're particularly fans of the free dinners at extra-charge onboard eateries that come with Platinum-level status.

Ways to Earn Points

Gaining points in the Norwegian Cruise Line’s Latitudes Rewards Program is straightforward and rewarding.

Here’s how you earn Latitudes points:

  • Cruise Duration : Earn one point for every night you spend aboard a Norwegian Cruise Line ship . The longer your cruise, the more points you accumulate, making every night at sea a step closer to more exclusive benefits.
  • Stateroom Category : Earn an additional one point per night while staying in a Concierge-level cabin, the Haven rooms, or full-fare suites (not including mini-suites or club balcony suites).
  • Special Promotions : Look out for special promotions and offers allowing you to earn extra points. Norwegian Cruise Line periodically runs bonus point campaigns for certain itineraries, booking windows, or activities onboard.
  • Latitudes Insider Offers: Earn an additional one point per night when the cruise is booked using a Latitudes Rewards Insider Offer (special offers for Latitudes Rewards members)

Editor’s Tip

Additional points for guests staying in suites only apply to guests who booked the suite at the time of reservation. The additional loyalty points don’t apply to guests whose suite reservation results from an upgrade.

Norwegian Cruise Lines Norwegian Dawn ship visiting the island of St Thomas

The Latitudes Rewards Program from Norwegian Cruise Line offers enticing benefits for loyal cruisers. From shore excursion discounts to complimentary dinners and even a free cruise, the rewards amplify the cruising experience.

  • Points Accumulation : Rewards points are credited to members’ accounts approximately 48 hours after completing a cruise. That means upgrades in membership tier and associated benefits take effect on future sailings even if you would have enough points to bump up a tier mid-way through your sailing.
  • Shore Excursion Discounts : Shore excursion discounts apply when booking online or on the ship. When booking online, the discount is applied automatically at checkout.
  • Internet Package Discounts : Discounts on internet packages apply only to the Unlimited 1 device and Unlimited Premium 1 device WiFi plans. However, you cannot combine the discounts with the Norwegian Cruise Lines Free at Sea promotion’s complimentary internet package.
  • Free Specialty Dinner : The free specialty dinner benefit includes one appetizer, one entrée (up to $35), and one dessert. For those selecting an entrée exceeding this limit, an additional charge will be added to your onboard account for the price difference. The availability of restaurants varies across the fleet, with specific substitutions on ships like Norwegian Bliss, Joy, Encore, and Spirit. This benefit covers service charges and is available per stateroom on sailings of five days or more.
  • Diamond Cabin Upgrade : Upon reaching the Diamond tier, members are eligible for a one-time cabin upgrade, subject to availability. This upgrade allows for a one-category increase up to the Club Balcony Suite level but excludes suites and The Haven. You must utilize this upgrade within the first year of achieving Diamond status.
  • Ambassador Free Cruise : The pinnacle of Latitudes Rewards, the Ambassador level, offers a complimentary 7-night cruise in a balcony cabin. There are no destination requirements and you can upgrade to a Suite or The Haven by paying the difference. Note that the free cruise benefit may not be available during peak holiday periods like Christmas and New Year.

When Are Latitudes Rewards Points Added to My Account?

Points are credited to your account within 48 hours following the completion of each cruise. Therefore, if a cruise earns you enough points to advance to the next tier, the upgraded tier’s benefits become available for use on your subsequent cruise, not during the cruise that enabled your status elevation.

Do Latitudes Rewards Points Expire?

Unlike some airline loyalty programs, your Latitudes Rewards Points never expire, and your status level never drops . In fact, Norwegian Crusie Line allowed passengers to keep their tier and point status when they revamped their loyalty program in 2022.

Do Latitudes Rewards Points Transfer to Other Norwegian Brands?

No. Rewards points are only earned for sailings on Norwegian cruises and are not transferrable to other cruise lines . Norwegian Cruise Line’s sister brands include Regent Seven Seas and Oceania Cruises.

What if I am Missing Points From a Past Cruise?

If you’ve taken a cruise with Norwegian Cruise Line but don’t see the points awarded to your account, you should contact the cruise line. According to NCL, earned points are added to your account within 48 hours of the completion of your cruise. If you don’t see the points in your account, you can claim past cruises if you notify the cruise line within 12 months of the end date.

To claim your past cruise, you can log into your NCL account. You can find the link to report missing rewards points in your past cruise history.

For more help, you can reach the Latitudes Rewards desk at 866-234-0292.

How Do I Find My Latitudes Rewards Number?

There are several ways to find your Latitudes Rewards number: 1. Log in to your My NCL account. 2. Call the Latitudes Rewards helpline at 866-234-0292. 3. The number can be found on your Cruise Documents (eDocs), and the Latitudes Insider Offer email.

Will I Receive Points if I Cancel a Cruise?

No. You will not receive points for canceled cruises even if the cruise was paid in full and you paid the cancellation penalty.

Latitudes Discount- Internet and shore excursions

Cool Cruiser

We are all platinum. Just looked at our 2 B2B cruises next month and looking to book the upgrades on internet. Apparently we have 15% discount from latitudes, but when I add to the card, it does not apply the discount. It does advertise, book online to save 15%, surely we do not have to wait till we get onboard and then lose the online discount so forfeiting the latitude discount? As I booked the first part before 18th and second cruise after the 18th I see the increased cost of internet upgrade and think it is around $70 per 7 day cruise.

Also re shore excursion $50 discount, this is allocated to first party, can you change the first party listed, the agent did not ask me who to allocate as the first party on my father/daughters bookings, they allocated my father as first but he will not participate on all shore excursions and the wifi would also be better for my daughter. Booked with CAS.

Also how do you get the latitude discount for shore excursions now if booking online?

It seems that they haven’t got everything sorted from the recent latitudes changes. As you say, the internet discount isn’t showing up, but that may appear at a later point. Of course it may be possible that this will be a but onboard option which would reduce the value if you can’t get the early booking discount.

The shore excursion latitudes discount also isn’t showing up for many people. It actually is for me but I seem to be in the minority (maybe because I’m not in the US). I think that people have been advised this will be corrected soon.

In the past the shorex discount usually was applied only at the shorex desk on board.  There seems to be a hiccup in the computer system that hasn't allowed it to be applied when you book online in advance.  It sometimes has been a bit of a hassle to stand in line at the shorex desk, but we've never really had any difficulty in getting them to correct the billing and credit the difference back to us on our onboard account.  Just make sure you don't prepay for everything.  Leave yourself an item or two to pay for onboard so they have an onboard charge to which they can apply the credit.  Maybe someday their IT department actually will get their computer system set up to handle all the offers, discounts, etc. that their marketing department folks have promised.

TrumpyNor

I just tried to book a shorex for our upcoming cruise in July, and it seems to work perfectly when it comes to the system applying both the $50 shorex credit for 1st person and our 15% Latitude discount for both of us .

The shore excursion in question, has a regular price of $99,00 p.p. for adults. Before "choosing it" the price shown as available is $49,00 for 1. passenger (me) and $99,00 for second passenger (my husband). When I tick the boxes to purchase the shore excursion for both of us, the shopping cart shows the prices with the  Latitude discount deducted as well. $41,65 for me and $84,15 for my husband, so a (in my eyes) reasonable total amount of $125,80 instead of $198,00.  😊

As has been noted in other discussions, the latitudes discount does not usually show until you get to the payment page.  But they are also having issues with their system - I called to verify that they still required payment in advance - and they couldn't apply latitudes discount to my reservation.  Told me when they get the system fixed, I'd get a refund.  So we'll see.

Per T&C: " Discounts are not reflected in the shopping section of My NCL on ncl.com. You will see the discount in the shopping cart upon check out."

I think the problems must be with the US site, as it also works fine for me.

The shore discount appears to work now but just realised you get no discount for WiFi upgrades and since we both parties now get free minutes from free at sea there is no discount going to be given unless you sale without the free at seas - pointless discount offered by NCL

Update.  I had my PCC add transfers to my reservation and mentioned that I hadn't gotten my latitudes discount on my excursions.  I don't know if she did something or if the correction was in the system but the new amount due reflected the correction.

NCL has meetups for solo travelers. Check the Freestyle Daily for times/locations--that schedule is delivered to all staterooms each night.

Also head over to our sister site Cruise Critic and sign up for the Roll Call for your particular voyage. You might get to "know" a few fellow passengers and perhaps make plans to meet up. On excursions, be friendly. It doesn't matter if they are solos or couples as long as you can strike up a conversation you enjoy!

Oh, and I don't suppose I have to remind you to remain aware of your surroundings (both on the ship and while on shore), just like you would anywhere. There are thieves and predators out there. That said, most of my trips have been done solo and I've never had any problems. Only a couple of times over the years has my "Spidey Sense" been triggered, but I just avoided those situations and everything was fine.

I did find this site that you might want to skim through: https://solotravelerworld.com/travel-safety/

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

ncl latitudes shore excursion discount

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

ncl latitudes shore excursion discount

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

ncl latitudes shore excursion discount

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

ncl latitudes shore excursion discount

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

ncl latitudes shore excursion discount

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

ncl latitudes shore excursion discount

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

ncl latitudes shore excursion discount

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.

It should!  I hope that you encounter no problems.  You could call, or visit the onboard ShorEx desk, if you you do have any discrepancies.

WillCruiseForMoney

If you book onboard make sure you let the staff member know your Latitudes status.  It seems that the discount is not always automatically applied onboard.

It's always best to tell them whether you book by calling the shorex department or on the ship. It costs you very, very little time to make sure they know.

The best facilities were built for them: the world’s largest centrifuge and hydro laboratory. Coordinates of elektrostal in degrees and decimal minutes, utm coordinates of elektrostal, geographic coordinate systems.

WGS 84 coordinate reference system is the latest revision of the World Geodetic System, which is used in mapping and navigation, including GPS satellite navigation system (the Global Positioning System).

Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) define a position on the Earth’s surface. Coordinates are angular units. The canonical form of latitude and longitude representation uses degrees (°), minutes (′), and seconds (″). GPS systems widely use coordinates in degrees and decimal minutes, or in decimal degrees.

Latitude varies from −90° to 90°. The latitude of the Equator is 0°; the latitude of the South Pole is −90°; the latitude of the North Pole is 90°. Positive latitude values correspond to the geographic locations north of the Equator (abbrev. N). Negative latitude values correspond to the geographic locations south of the Equator (abbrev. S).

Longitude is counted from the prime meridian ( IERS Reference Meridian for WGS 84) and varies from −180° to 180°. Positive longitude values correspond to the geographic locations east of the prime meridian (abbrev. E). Negative longitude values correspond to the geographic locations west of the prime meridian (abbrev. W).

UTM or Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system divides the Earth’s surface into 60 longitudinal zones. The coordinates of a location within each zone are defined as a planar coordinate pair related to the intersection of the equator and the zone’s central meridian, and measured in meters.

Elevation above sea level is a measure of a geographic location’s height. We are using the global digital elevation model GTOPO30 .

See icons that define Rome during several transformative time periods and come away with a deeper understanding of Italy’s capital. The Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain beautifully represent the Baroque era. If you toss a coin in the fountain – ensuring a return to Rome according to legend – it will be collected later that day and donated to charity. Standing on the terrace overlooking the Roman Forum will offer a perspective of ancient times as this public space was used for events ranging from religious ceremonies to secular spectacles. Similarly, an outside look at the massive Colosseum will add insight, especially through the guide’s enlightening commentary. The amphitheater held as many as 50,000 spectators that come to watch everything from gladiatorial games to public executions. After you behold the Renaissance treasure St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City from the square out front, you will enjoy free time for shopping and independent exploration.

• Climb the iconic Spanish Steps and drop a coin in the Trevi Fountain if you wish. • Behold the famed Roman Forum from the terrace overlooking it. • Enjoy outside visits of the Colosseum and St. Peter’s Basilica as the guide describes them. • Spend free time shopping or further exploring landmarks that you find most interesting.
