A Luxury Guide to Dubai, The City of Gold

After lifting Covid-19 restrictions, the city is back on travelers' lists with plenty to do and see.

Dubai travel guide

Glam, luxury and fashion meet the melting pot of the Middle East. With over 200 different cultures and a ton of expats, Dubai is nestled in the southeast of the Persian Gulf and has a luxurious reputation in the United Arab Emirates. Dubai, also known as the City of Gold, is even home to an entire souk devoted to selling gold. The modern architecture with buildings like the Burj Al Arab and Burj Khalifa makes the Dubai skyline a noteworthy one. After lifting Covid-19 restrictions, the city is now back on many travelers’ lists with plenty to do and see. In this travel guide, Elite Traveler takes a look at the diverse range of experiences to choose from in Dubai.

When planning your trip to Dubai, consider Emirates business class flights . It’s over a 12-hour flight from New York City , so comfort is essential. You’ll have access to the standup lounge bar, plenty of food, a top-tier wine list, cocktails and entertainment, and the service is impeccable. Once you arrive, they arrange airport transfers in Mercedes vehicles to your destination.

Jumeirah Beach Hotel

At the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, guests have views of the Persian Gulf, with private beach access and beautiful sea views from most of the rooms. Not only do guests get to take in beautiful views of the gulf, but incredible views of Burj Al Arab, too. The deep soaking tubs in the suites and the balcony overlooking the lit-up view of the Burj Al Arab in the evening is the perfect backdrop when you order prawn curry, naan bread and knafeh on the room service menu. For the romance package, the hotel fills the room with chocolates, a tub filled with bubbles and rose petals, a huge bouquet of red roses, champagne and more.

Burj Al Arab

The Burj Al Arab is easily one of the most iconic buildings in the city’s skyline, among being an architectural icon around the world. When people see the Burj Al Arab, they are reminded of top-tier Arabian luxury. Even the most basic rooms are incredible, but the top-tier suites are something to splurge on if you want to feel like royalty. The suites have attracted some of the highest names among celebrities and royalty, with the architecture reflecting the colorful unique designs throughout the Burj Al Arab.

The spa treatments at Talise Spa in the Burj Al Arab are something that just simply cannot be missed. The massage tables overlook the view of the skyline and the gulf. While waiting, guests are served tea and dates while relaxing by the infinity pool. Talise is also the only place to offer the “Leg King” Professor Francesco Canonaco’s wildly successful program that is said to cure cellulite, water retention and all vascular problems in the legs.

Arriving at Bab Al Shams, it truly feels like a luxurious desert escape. The design consists of traditional Arab architecture, immersed in the desert with infinity pools overlooking the sand dunes and an extensive ecosystem filled with birds and gazelles, among other wildlife. The location provides an escape from the busy city life with a selection of activities for guests including desert exploration hikes, massages, horseback riding, archery, camel riding, falconry and more in between sunbathing or relaxing in your soaking tub in the bedroom.

The food is fantastic, with plenty of fresh-squeezed juices, coconut water, wraps and more. Pre-dinner cocktails at Al Sarab Rooftop Lounge are a must before heading out. If guests are lucky enough to be in Dubai during Ramadan, the hotel’s Iftar is outstanding, with a wide selection of traditional foods, live shows, music, tea, hookah and more. Since Covid-19, the shows are back and more lively than ever, and group activities are encouraged for guests.

While visiting the Burj Al Arab, stop at SAL for a bite to eat before relaxing by the infinity pool over the Arabian Gulf. SAL serves a variety of Mediterranean dishes and fresh seafood, like the King Crab and homemade trenette pasta with bright green, fragrant fresh basil pesto, plump tomato, espelette chili and tangy balsamic or the light tomato gazpacho with capsicum, cucumber and crispy bread.

Bastion oysters

Dinner at Bastion is a must while staying at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel / ©Jessica Kelly

Dinner at Bastion is a must while staying at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel. The steakhouse offers views of the Burj Al Arab and serves delicious cuts like kiwami wagyu and rack of lamb, among other appetizers to share like foie gras, calamari, tableside steak tartare and more. In addition to the main courses, the restaurant offers an extensive wine list and knowledgeable staff waiting to suggest pairings. Don’t forget to stop for an after-dinner cocktail at Floor 24 at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel.

Sometimes when visiting a place that already has frills like a waterfront view, the food tends to be just so-so. They don’t have to try as hard because crowds will continue to visit if the place has a good view. The Atmosphere overdid itself with this dining experience. Not only do you get incredible views being on the 122nd floor of the world’s tallest building, but there are incredible crepes, egg dishes with freshly shaved truffles, towers of fresh cheeses, meats, fruit and fresh-squeezed juices like mango and orange to choose from. Finish the meal with a golden coffee because everything in Dubai is coated in gold.

Ossiano Dubai

Chef Gregoire Berger shares his passion for food, art and flavors at Ossiano / ©Jessica Kelly

Nobu is a great spot within Atlantis to grab a drink before dinner and deserved a special mention in our travel guide to Dubai. It’s the perfect place to try out a new sake or a refreshing lychee martini. After drinks at Nobu, check in at Ossiano . The gourmet eatery is surrounded by tanks filled with 65,000 marine animals. Guests are dining, sipping their espresso martinis while watching the fish swim gracefully by. Throughout this experience, chef Gregoire Berger shares his passion for food, art and flavors he’s picked up through personal experiences, each dish coming with its own story.

Burj Khalifa

As far as activities go, our travel guide to Dubai would not be complete without mentioning Burj Khalifa. A staple in the skyline, the building reaches over 2716 feet and has 160 stories. It holds multiple world records including the tallest building in the world, having the highest number of stories in the world, having the highest outdoor observation deck in the world, and having the tallest service elevator in the world, among others.

Taking a hot air balloon ride over the desert during sunrise is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience and one that we simply had to include in our luxury travel guide to Dubai. The ride is so peaceful and calm, riders barely even feel any movement. With other balloons floating by in the distance, riders will get to watch the sunrise over the desert from a bird’s eye view. The company is Dubai’s longest operating hot air balloon company with seasoned, professional pilots to safely lead the tour. When the balloon lands, vintage Land Rovers will bring guests to an extensive breakfast filled with local favorites.

Top notch video for the Armani Dubai Hotel, and for the entire review of Dubai’s luxury hotels in general. I am inspired to visit again Dubai, as I last visited in 1990 and 1991. Obviously, much has changed since then. I do offer one critique, though. At approximately 14:15, you capture yourself in the video as you pass the mirror in your hotel room. It’s a cinematography faux pas that is best avoided and detracts from the otherwise professionalism of your videos. Regardless, this video truly makes me want to return tot he Near East soon. Also, if it ever possible to review the luxury hotels of Seoul, South Korea, or the Business/First Class seating of Korean Air, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you again for a wonderful video.

Hello, Great video! Curious if you had any thoughts about the Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort? Thanks, Mike

Dubai is a place which never fails to amaze the peoples across the world. I have a plan to visit Dubai can you suggest me some budgeted hotel which can afford by me.

Dubai is one of the paradise on the earth.

In a world where one can choose to go or not go to a certain destination, this is one of them that I would pass!! Not that it isn’t beautiful but it isn’t a place for me to visit.

You hit the nail on the head by listing the Jumeirah Al Qsar! I loved staying there. The Friday brunch was superb! I’d also recommend Grosvenor House on the Marina..

Been this year in Al maha and Armani . Al maha- old, bad management, bad service, very local service, like a 2 star hotel . Armani- BEST ! Amazing design, service, food! Unbelievable good!

Our personal preference would be The Palace at One and Only Royal Mirage. The service, the architecture, the space on the beach, and the choice and standard of restaurants are excellent. But Al Maha was also excellent when we stayed. The Four Seasons Jumeirah, One and Only The Palm, and The Burj are also worthy of my top 5. What are your views on The Palace?

Just returned from Grosvenor House and what a lovely place. The staff there really made our stay. The Club Lounge is a nice place to relax with drinks and nibble. We have also stayed at The Four Seasons and The Park Hyatt. The service at Grosvenor House topped them both. Facilities at The Four Seasons are great, but the service was not up to the legendary status the brand is known for.

What about Mandarin Oriental Jumeirah?

Dubai never fails to amaze! Anyone that wants to visit and experience Dubai, Burj Al Arab is definitely a good choice. Thank you for sharing!

Dubai is the tourist place for the move and also for the adventure

Ive been to Dubai four times now four times now and every single time I’ve stayed in a Grosvenor House residence, its my favoured hotel in the world, it does not break the bank, is in a great location and the food is simply amazing. It is Marriott so the sister hotel (Royal Meridian) is also accessible, where you have a private beach and even more resteraunts, definitely a place to check out: it is higher rated on Tripadvisor than these hotels also!

Dubai is the tourist place for the move and also for the adventure And all the people also searching for Best hotel Dubai

This is a fantastic resource, thank you for sharing! I’m particularly interested in the more cultural experiences, such as the Jumeirah Mosque and the Dubai Museum.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful resource! I am especially intrigued by the cultural experiences offered, such as the Jumeirah Mosque and the Dubai Museum.

Our Luxury Travel Guide: Dubai

luxury travel in dubai

Last updated on May 16th, 2024 at 12:47 am

A city full of contrasts, Dubai is a city where a traveler could choose from many options.  There’s the glittering skyline, made up of skyscrapers so tall they defy imagination; the modern collection of stores and eateries,  and the luxurious hotels, luxury rentals , ready to welcome even the most discerning traveler in style and excess.

Then there’s the desert with its rolling hills of sand stamped with the footprints of Arabian oryx and gazelles; the souks with their labyrinth of stalls, bins overflowing with a rainbow of spices, the scent filling the air; and the traditional abra boats ferrying riders across the Dubai Creek.

The city has sprouted up from its desert port beginnings to become a sprawling metropolis full of vibrant neighborhoods, record-setting buildings, and over-the-top shopping centers all in the last several decades (excavation work on the famous Burj Khalifa didn’t even begin until January 2004).

I nostri consigli per chi si appresta a visitare Dubai per la prima volta | Visit Dubai

Table of Contents

The weather in Dubai is hot throughout the year, but the months between end of September to March/April are the best times to visit with average temperatures hovering in the high 70’s and low 80’s in December. Those who love to pack a sweater are in luck too as early mornings and evenings in the desert tend to be much cooler and air conditioning is plentiful throughout Dubai.

HOW TO GET THERE:

Book your private jet 🙂

When you book your jet charter through ONEflight International , they will set you up with the choice of helicopter or luxurious aircraft to whisk your guests off to whatever location you choose. The choice is yours when it comes to the perfect aircraft to use for your business or private guests. With just a few questions regarding the number of guests and the type of trip you are planning, we can help you select the right travel arrangements.

WHERE TO STAY:

The marina & jumeirah beach residence (jbr).

It is considered one of the newest neighborhood of Dubai Marina, and JBR is the most Westernized area in the city. A nice walkable location in Dubai, probably one of the best ones.

JBR refers to the beach, the promenade and all the buildings which are in the first line. The Marina is everything behind there, including the tallest skyscrapers and the canal.

Most European expats choose to live here, as it is the easiest place to live in, with plenty of bar options and no strict restrictions, like the way women dress at the beach, for example.

Not an appealing place where to stay during your your vacation in Dubai, since it is the functional neighborhood of Dubai.

Besides wandering around the Mall of the Emirates (the second most famous mall) to see the Ski Resort, tourists don’t have much to do here.

On the other hand, however, there are quite a few expats living here, basically, because it is very well-connected to the metro, is close to both Marina and Downtown and you can save a few hundred of dollars rent per month.

Moreover, it has everything you may need, from a Carrefour to many types of shops and some really good local restaurants, from Arabic to great Indian and Pakistanis, so Al-Barsha is actually a great place to stay.

Considered the best location where to stay in Dubai. With some of the tallest skyscrapers, including the Burj Khalifa, the most luxurious shops, fancy boulevards, and the most glamorous clubs and fine-dining restaurants, Downtown is the reason why Dubai is famous.

Whether you want to go to the top of Burj Khalifa, shop in the world’s largest mall or just check out the fountain show, all tourists come here at some point during their trip.

Palm Jumeirah

Palm Jumeirah (or The Palm) is one of Dubai’s most remarkable landmarks.

It’s basically a palm-shaped island which is attached to Dubai’s mainland. It is actually huge, with a length of several kilometers from the beginning till the edge of the island, where you find the Atlantis Hotel, one of the most luxurious hotels in the city and a replica of the same hotel in The Bahamas

The restaurant is not underwater, nor is the ‘submarine’ that takes you there real. Nonetheless, it is an extraordinary and unique experience dining within the vast aquarium that sets the scene for Nathan Outlaw Al Mahara. The Michelin-starred British chef’s dishes emphasize the power of simplicity while the flavors of the finest ingredients speak for themselves. Guests can enjoy signature cocktails in one of the open-air, waterfront patio tables.

Casual atmosphere at Eauzone, reflecting the slow pace of the One&Only Royal Mirage and the lazy sea beyond. After sunset, however, this venue smartens up into a sleek, refined restaurant. The design is beautifully positioned around the pool, giving the impression that it is floating on the translucent water. A winding walkway over the pool shows the way into the restaurant where there is a stylish bar and a glamorous, striped poolside marquee deck.

La Petite Maison

Magnificently located in Dubai International Financial Centre, this restaurant’s cooking style belongs to ‘old Genoese,’ serving Mediterranean dishes. Local produce — notably artichokes, courgettes, lemons, olives, tomatoes, peppers and girolles — is used generously with seafood, meat and fresh pasta to produce a style that’s light and healthy.

Al Hadheerah

The Bab Al Shams Desert Resort & Spa signature restaurant is a 60-minute drive from Dubai airport. The resort is hidden among sand dunes, giving the image of an isolated oasis perfect for a fine-dining experience under the stars. Fourteen live cooking stations provide authentic cuisine from the Middle East while guests enjoy live entertainment. The Emirati Heritage Museum is also located nearby for an extra dose of culture.

Award-winning chefs at Zheng He’s pride themselves on creating dishes that blend modern Western presentation with old Chinese flavors. The setting adds to this fusion — on the ‘dockside’ of a canal that weaves itself into the Madinet Jumeirah resort, it has an atmosphere of ancient simplicity while retaining views of the Burj Al Arab and the Gulf beyond. Try the signature Fortune Beggar Chicken among the exquisite Chinese fare on offer.

Based at the Atlantis Hotel, Nobu fuses cutting–edge Japanese style with Arabian influences, while retaining Nobu classics such as its legendary seared black cod served with sweet miso sauce, and yellowtail topped with thin slices of jalapeño. The menu is complemented by a sushi bar and stylish surroundings, including private areas for more intimate gatherings. Cooking classes are available, allowing guests to learn the secrets behind this world-famous restaurant chain, created by globally renowned chef Nobu Matsuhisa to redefine Japanese cuisine.

BEST SHOPPING:

The dubai mall.

The UAE’s highest concentration of designer boutiques can be found here, alongside the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo and an Olympic-sized ice rink, while the Dubai Fountain and Burj Khalifa are on the doorstep. Walking through the several million square feet of retail space is a workout: you can navigate with the Dubai Mall mobile app, and be sure to pack comfortable shoes – or buy a pair. With more than 1,300 shops, including anchor departments stores Galeries Lafayette and Bloomingdale’s, finding the right footwear for the job shouldn’t be a problem.

Mall of the Emirates

T he only place in the UAE where you’ll find a ski slope, Mall of the Emirates is a magnet for Middle Eastern travellers who’ve never seen snow. The mall’s Fashion District looks like the pages of Vogue brought to life, with Bulgari, Dior and Gucci stopping shoppers in their tracks with attention-grabbing window displays. High-street offerings include Next, Topshop and the popular Turkish equivalent, Koton, while Harvey Nichols and Debenhams go head to head as the flagship department stores. The ‘Hands Free’ service means shoppers can have their bags collected and delivered later anywhere in the mall, car parks or connecting hotels (a Kempinski  and a Sheraton).

The Outlet Village

T his incongruous Tuscan village-styled mall on the outskirts of Dubai is to the UAE what Bicester Village is to England. From Armani to Ermenegildo Zegna, several discounted high-end collections can be found in bespoke boutiques or one of three multi-brand department stores: The Deal, Priceless and Galeries Lafayette L’Outlet. Hotfoot it to Coach, Dunhill, Michael Kors and Montblanc for luxury leather accessories, and bag high street bargains at stores including Banana Republic, Gap Factory, Diesel, Superdry and Ted Baker. In addition to the 100 or so shops, there’s a food court and Stay & Play, a care facility where children can be entertained while grown-ups splurge.

Lotus Arts de Vivre

T his little shop of curiosities, an outpost of a family business based in Thailand, presents dramatic handcrafted jewellery and home décor inspired by Asian mythology and made from unusual materials, most striking among them the iridescent green wings of the scarab beetle. Outshining the sharpest cut of emerald, large and ornate scarab earrings and pendants emit an almost supernatural glow from within the shop’s glass display cases. A bespoke scarab souvenir can cost a few thousand pounds, but it’s sure to remain a talking point for years to come. Slightly more affordable items are fashioned from seeds, nuts, shells and emu eggs.

Dubai's Answer to Real Heat Is … Fake Rain?

THINGS NOT TO MISS:

1. burj khalifa.

The world’s tallest building is at the top of most Dubai tourists’ must-see list. Standing 163 floors – almost 830 meters tall – Burj Khalifa is perfect for a family trip including the beautifully landscaped gardens beneath and the 124th/125th and 148th-floor observation decks.

From above, the birds-eye view of Dubai and most importantly the panoramic skyline is unmatched. The world’s largest choreographed fountain show – Dubai Fountain – lies beneath for those who prefer their action on the ground or perhaps do not have time to join the queues

2. Burj Al-Arab

The world’s tallest, one and only “seven-star” hotel is a sail-shaped building standing 321 meters high on its own artificial island off the coast at Jumeirah.

3. Dubai Desert Safari

One of the major highlights of any Dubai tour is exploring the Dubai deserts. And going for a Dubai desert safari is the best way to experience a taster of the Dubai desert. A typical desert safari includes dune bashing, camel riding, sand boarding and many end in traditional Bedouin-style camps for dinner, henna and musical entertainment, a not to be missed experience.

4. Jumeirah Mosque

Jumeirah Mosque , a replica of the Egyptian Al-Azhar Mosque but eight times larger in actual size, is considered among the most beautiful mosques in Dubai, a great show-off of the traditional Islamic architecture.

5.Dubai Museum

Housed in the 230 years old Al Fahidi Fort, Dubai Museum serves as a showcase of the history and culture of the city and beyond. There is a great exhibit, at the entrance, displaying old maps of the region lining up as dots to the gigantic boom in modern development and expansion.

Traditional boats and palm-leaf house with wind-tower decorate the courtyard. Traditional weaponry, musical instruments, presentation of the local way of life along with artefacts from the several thousand years old Al Qusais archaeological site forms the core of the museum interior.

6.The Bastakia Quarter

This is the old city of Dubai and was built by the wealthy pearl-traders in the 19 th century. Old luxurious buildings made of coral and limestones were fitted with wind-towers – air-conditioning of the olden days. Bastakia is located on the eastern side of Bur Dubai and lies on the Dubai Creek. Along-side the old architectures, Majlis Gallery shows traditional Arab ceramics and furniture, while the XVA Gallery displays a more contemporary art collection.

7.Sheikh Sayeed Al-Maktoum House

This is another great museum housed in an old royal home. Sheikh Sayeed Al-Maktoum ruled Dubai from 1921 to 1958 and lived in this house originally built in 1896 by his father. The house was rebuilt and was turned into the museum; however, the architecture has been preserved. Dubai Museum of Historical Photographs and Documents now occupies the building.

Dubai, città tutta da scoprire con il sito Living Dubai

8.Aquaventure

Aquaventure Waterpark is an internationally famous waterpark based at Atlantis The Palm. The world’s longest water slide Aquaconda, Leap of Faith – a nine-story-tall water slide and coaster rides offer the great water thrills for family fun.  Underwater safari, water-sports area for children and a 700 meters long white sand beach complement the adventure.

9.Luxury Yachting Experience

Dubai is considered one of the best places in the world to enjoy luxury yachting. You can pick a yacht rental in Dubai per your budget and requirements and enjoy your time with your loved ones in Dubai’s crystal clear waters

When in Dubai, one of the emirates in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the Middle East, it’s all about glitz, glamor, incredible skyscrapers such as the Burj Khalifa, and luxury. There is shopping that offers not only the Dubai Mall and Dubai Fountain — the world’s largest mall and fountain in downtown Dubai — but also top designer labels and more Michelin-starred restaurants than you can throw a wooden spoon at. And then there are the amazing, star hotels perfect for a luxury getaway.

You know that feeling, when you walk into a hotel lobby to check in, and simply stop dead, looking up and all around, your jaw-dropping and neck craning? It’s those types of hotels.

Hotels in Dubai epitomize luxury with extravagant architecture, opulent interiors, and world-class amenities charging up to $20,000 per night. The city’s ambition to be a global hub attracts affluent travelers and businessmen, leading to fierce competition among hotels. Iconic landmarks like Burj Al Arab set high standards, while innovative designs and impeccable service elevate the glamour quotient, ensuring unforgettable experiences in each Dubai hotel.

Bulgari private beach villa

I have been lucky to have spent 6 years in Dubai, and while my days were taken up by work and school runs, I still spent a lot of time in family-friendly Dubai hotels, where you find the best restaurants, meet friends for brunch, or spend the weekend poolside or enjoying sea views. I have, since I left, visited many times, and got to not only visit but also stay in some superb hotels, boutique hotels , and desert resorts.

Here, I have compiled some that tick many boxes, from completely over-the-top luxury to elegant and non-intrusive luxury, from those with the best brunches to those with added extras, such as a fun water park like Wild Wadi . Something for everybody, but all at times with an eye-watering price tag.

So, whether you are lucky enough to travel on a luxury budget, are saving up for a special occasion, or just like to look at what is out there and dream, these are for you. Please note that you will see mention of Jumeirah throughout this article and this can either relate to the hotel group, neighborhood, souk Madinat Jumeirah, or Jumeirah Beach.

Dubai’s 6 Most Luxurious Hotels

1. burj al arab jumeirah.

Burj Al Arab

Without a doubt, the Burj Al Arab is Dubai’s most iconic hotel. Sitting on its own small island, the sleek sail-shaped hotel is known for its decadent luxury. Be it that everything that looks like gold, is indeed gold and that the glittering ceiling of the in-house restaurant is the largest Swarovski-crystal-studded ceiling in the world, or that the lobby boasts a 590-foot, or 18-story, tall atrium complete with fountains and aquaria, everything about this hotel is mind-blowing.

You can stay in guest rooms costing just over $1,000 per night, or in the Royal Suite, where you won’t see much change from $20,000. You will, however, be able to enjoy the stunning spa and hammam 490 feet above the surrounding sea, rest your head on one or two of the 17 types of pillows on the pillow menu, get pampered by the butler services, or even visit the on-site turtle hospital.

Pro Tip: You can get a look inside and behind the scenes of this amazing hotel during a guided hotel tour , which allows you to snoop around without spending a fortune.

2. Atlantis, The Palm

Underwater suite at the Atlantis The Palm Dubai

Twin of the Atlantis Hotel on Paradise Island in the Bahamas, the Atlantis, The Palm in Dubai is a huge hotel resort at the end of the manmade island called The Palm Jumeirah. In the lobby, an enormous glass sculpture from Dale Chihuly welcomes you. You have countless top restaurants including the lovely Nobu in-house and there is even a luxury shopping mall and a beach club. Most noticeable is the region’s largest aquarium, in which you can go for a dive and swim with sharks. It also has a handful of underwater suites with floor-to-ceiling windows making for a quite unique view. Other rooms and suites either look out over Palm Island or offer an Arabian Gulf view. Or, you could opt to stay in the utterly decadent Grand Atlantis Suite, which comes complete with two marine-themed fountains, five balconies, and views of both the Palm as well as the sea. It offers two bedrooms and around-the-clock butler service on just over 4,600 square feet. It’s a snip at $25,000 a night.

The property now has another addition, the Atlantis The Royal Dubai , which opened in early 2023 in spectacular fashion and is aiming toward the title of best luxury hotel in Dubai.

Pro Tip: Don’t miss out on the Aquaventure water park, reportedly the largest in the world. The steepest of water slides, lazy rivers, and enough fun for the whole family, to go at least twice.

3. Bulgari Resort Dubai

Exterior of the Bulgari Hotel and Resort

The Bulgari Resort Dubai is proof that luxury can be completely understated, yet omnipresent. The Italian luxury brand Bulgari does not only design desirable jewelry and watches but also has a hand at the elegant layout and interior décor that, together with a superb location and incredible restaurants onsite, will make you not want to leave the resort. Here the design is minimalist and unpretentious, yet luxurious. And it is the little touches that make a stay so memorable: You will receive a woven beach bag personalized with your initials to use — and keep for later.

You can hop into a Tesla car with batwing doors with the driver taking you to the restaurants across the in-resort marina; the balconies, with super-comfortable chairs and lounges, are huge, and you get little chocolates from the in-house chocolatier to sample and take away with you (if they last that long), and the minibar looks like an old-fashioned travel trunk.

Pro Tip: Onsite is a superb Italian restaurant, run by a Michelin-starred chef, and the excellent Yacht Club restaurant, which is perfect for lunch. Don’t miss the truffle pizza for starters — it’s so yummy.

4. Jumeirah Al Qasr

Al Qasr Madinat Jumeirah

The Al Qasr, The Castle , is probably my favorite luxury hotel in Dubai , for many reasons. The drive up to the entrance alone takes your breath away, and once you get out of your car by the fountain where golden horses frolic and enter the lobby with its palatial 1001 Arabian Nights arches and enormous flower arrangements, luxury will have swallowed you up. Add the lush garden setting with canals on which you can ride in an abra , a traditional boat, and the lovely beach with views across the iconic Burj Al Arab, the traditional wind-tower design of the villas, and it’s pretty nice. This is where you get a Friday brunch like no other, and this is also where my favorite restaurant in Dubai , Pierchic, is located perched at the end of a pier with stunning views along the coast.

Pro Tip: This hotel is part of four luxury hotels all nestled within steps from each other, all owned by the Jumeirah group, so you have a plethora of restaurants and facilities to choose from.

5. Palazzo Versace Dubai

Palazzo Versace signature bathroom

After your personal Bentley car has transferred you from the airport to the Palazzo Versace Dubai and you have taken in the typically Versace gold and swirly decor with the emblematic Medusa’s head in evidence everywhere, even in the pool, you will appreciate the different setting for this luxury resort. Instead of along the Arabian Gulf, you’ll find the Palazzo Versace by the Dubai Creek, the manmade inlet of water that winds its way around Dubai, with many an iconic building alongside it, and the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary, famous for its countless flamingos, practically on the doorstep. Despite its city location, you have three superb pools fringed by palm trees, and cozy cabanas dotted around for privacy. A selection of restaurants, including one by Michelin-starred chef Mansour Memarian, allows you to dine off Versace fine tableware and, should you feel you need more Versace design in your life back home, there is a shop selling sumptuous interior décor. Despite its opulence, this is one of the more affordable luxury hotels in Dubai, with prices starting at around $350 per night.

Pro Tip: If the various pools are not enough, you can get a free VIP pass to the Nikki Beach Resort and Spa , for a day on the beach.

6. Mandarin Oriental Jumeira, Dubai

Mandarin Oriental Dubai pool and beach

The Mandarin Oriental has a reputation that goes before it, and the Dubai property does not disappoint. Set along a private beach with rooms offering views either of the Arabian Gulf or the stunning Dubai skyline, this property will make you gasp as you walk under lit metal trees in the lobby, all the way down to the beach. You are greeted by staff donning blue Fedora hats and frock coats and navigate the garden across teak walkways and bridges to the cabanas and five outdoor pools. For fitness freaks, there is also a noted Outrace and Technogym with numerous classes on offer as well, from a beach boot camp to boxing, yoga, and dancing.

7. Four Seasons Resort Dubai

There aren’t too many places that can offer a true beach and city break, but Four Seasons Resort Dubai on Jumeirah’s pristine white shores manages to feel just like that. It’s perfect for fans of timeless elegance and the full resort experience.

The resort caters to beach lovers and offers access to all the facilities within the Madinat Jumeirah complex, including a spa, fitness center, tennis courts, and a water park.

Four Seasons Resort Dubai has views of the calming waters of the Arabian Gulf on one side and the glittering Dubai skyline on the other and houses two pools plus 11 tempting restaurants.

8. Al Maha, a Luxury Collection Desert Resort and Spa

Nestled among the lush palm groves, emerald canopies, and iconic dunes of the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, Al Maha Luxury Collection Desert Resort and Spa provides a secluded escape and breathtaking views of the sweeping plains and Hajar Mountain Range.

One unique aspect of the all-inclusive offering at Al Maha is that two desert activities per day are free during your stay. You can stay in Bedouin-style tents with private pools, go on curated desert adventures, and so much more.

What Are the Best Luxury Hotels in Dubai?

A sail-shaped Burj Al Arab on Jumeirah Beach is a seven-star hotel and one of the best luxury hotels in Dubai and the world. The Palm Atlantis, the iconic resort on the Palm Jumeirah, and the Jumeirah Beach Hotel are just a little behind.

What Can I Do in Dubai?

Dubai is all about glitz and glamor. Dubai Mall in downtown Dubai features top designer stores, numerous Michelin-starred restaurants, and the Dubai Fountain, the largest in the world. You can unwind at Jumeirah Beach or enjoy the views from Burj Khalifa, one of the world’s tallest skyscrapers.

Why Stay in a Luxury Hotel in Dubai?

Luxury hotels in Dubai offer higher service, amenities, and more comfortable guest rooms than boutique hotels or budget properties. They also usually have on-site restaurants, spas, and other amenities, such as fitness centers, outdoor swimming pools, and a rooftop pool.

When Did Dubai Get So Luxurious?

A little more than three decades ago, the Dubai World Trade Centre was the only skyscraper in the city. Today, there are over 200 towers within modern Dubai, each being a unique jewel in the city’s crown, an architectural marvel, and a symbol of extreme wealth.

Which Luxury Hotel in Dubai Has the Best Views?

With so many luxury hotels in Dubai, it’s really hard to tell. You can take your pick between unmissable observation decks like the View at the Palm Observatory Deck at Palm Jumeirah, Burj Khalifa at The Top, or Ain Dubai, the world’s tallest observation wheel.

Panoramic view of Dubai from Palm Island

Dubai erupts from the desert sands of Arabia - a dazzling glass-and-steel cityscape reaching towards the sky.

The vivid blue waters of the Arabian Gulf lie to the west and north, and famous beaches like Jumeirah to the southwest. Inland, the urban landscapes give way gradually to romantic desert terrain. Beneath the iconic skyscrapers and luxury hotels is a network of old-world souks and markets.

One of seven emirates, Dubai has humble beginnings as a backwater port. Few could have predicted that this city-state would become a byword for ultra-luxurious. But helped along by boundless imagination and, yes, a lot of investment, even the word ‘luxury’ doesn’t do it justice anymore.

At its core, Dubai has an admirably competitive streak. Whether it’s the Burj Kalifa, the tallest building in the world, or the largest shopping mall, it’s a city not content with being second best.

You choose a holiday to Dubai to sip cocktails at velvet-roped bars, thousands of feet in the air – or at the marina, as an armada of yachts sails by. You come to dine at high-end restaurants that rival anything New York or London has to offer. You may try and indulge your adventurous side with desert safaris or pamper yourself at the world-class spa centres. Shop for jewellery at the Gold Souk or Prada handbags at the Mall of the Emirates. Or perhaps, you’ll just come for the skiing.

When booking with Lightfoot Travel, you’ll receive impartial advice from our Dubai experts on the best accommodation for your needs. We offer a concierge-style service and help you create the perfect tailor-made Dubai holiday experience. Give us a call!

Fire breathing belly dancers are signature elements at the Sonara camp in Dubai.

Immersive and unique travel experiences are big business. Especially when they take place in the desert: Two years ago the global desert tourism market was already valued at $178 billion. And it is predicted to reach $248.83 billion by 2031—a compound annual growth rate of 3.78% from 2023 to 2031 , according to Straits Research.

In the midst of this booming market, Stephanie Reichenbach managed to carve out a niche. The European native moved to Dubai for her role in private banking at Barclay’s. But she eventually decided to become her own boss when she founded Sonara , a novel luxury dinner and event experience in Dubai’s desert.

Stephanie Reichenbach, the founder of Sonara. The 48-year-old originally moved to Dubai for a ... [+] banking job.

Sonara is an acronym for her and her husband’s first initials, as well as her four sons, Neil, Adam, Ryan and Adrian. Not entirely by coincidence, "nara" also means "small, sparkling fire" in Arabic.

Reichenbach’s dinners take place in the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, a vast, gated area 45-minutes drive southeast of downtown. The DDCR is larger than the country of Liechtenstein or the city of Washington, D.C., and the 87 square miles account for 5% of Dubai’s landmass.

Ghost Of Tsushima Is Already Flooded With Negative Reviews On Steam

Wwe smackdown results, winners and grades with stratton vs. belair, biden trump debates what to know as trump pushes for 2 more faceoffs.

It was set up in 2003 by the Emir of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktum, to ensure that the area’s Arabian heritage doesn’t get lost during the rapid growth of the glittering city next to it. It serves as a sanctuary for Dubai’s unique desert flora and fauna, like the Arabian gazelles and white oryx.

The rules for visitors are strict; only pre-approved guided tours can enter the gates at specific times and only a handful of chosen businesses operate inside the fence.

Sonara guests arrive at the park a few hours before sunset. Land Rovers shuttle them past seemingly endless golden dunes, until copious amounts of shimmering lights appear ahead: Those are the torches, candles and string lights of the Sonara camp. They almost seem like a Fata Morgana in the middle of the wilderness.

And the magic doesn’t end there: The camp’s setting is reminiscent of 1001 Nights . Burning torches light the paths into the camp, and a traditional oud player delivers Arabian songs while colorfully decorated camels rest in the shade nearby. Large white hammocks sway softly in the early evening breeze, ready to welcome guests.

The Sonara Camp is located within the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, an area that also serves as ... [+] a refuge for native animals.

The immaculate attention to detail in the design is unusual for desert tours. As is the focus on a high-end food and beverage concept. That’s for a reason. “I thought to myself: If we have such wonderful restaurants and bars nearby in the city, why shouldn’t we bring some of that into the desert?” Reichenbach says.

Before she launched Sonara, she tested her concept on friends and family. "I began by inviting small groups to dinners under the stars in a part of the desert that is open to the public. And to my surprise, the feedback was always very positive,” she says. "Everyone loved it and my friends kept coming back again and again with more friends."

Camels, Steak And Cocktails In The Middle Of The Desert

One of those evenings, someone told her about the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve. Reichenbach applied with a business plan full of ideas for Sonara.

“I knew that I wanted to replicate the same concept I had tried on my friends, but on a bigger scale,” she says. ”And I wanted the food, activities and entertainment to be of higher quality than at other places.”

Instead of long lines at a buffet for lentil soup and lamb shanks common in other desert safaris, she dreamt of tuna sashimi and medium rare T-Bone steaks delivered to the table à la minute—preferably on hand-painted ceramic plates.

The dining tables welcome guests with white tablecloths, warm lights set the mood for the dining ... [+] experience.

Traditional non-alcoholic Bedouin beverages, such as warm mint tea and sweetened cardamom coffee, would be served in addition to cocktails that should rival those found on the menus in the best bars in downtown Dubai.

And Reichenbach wanted top-tier entertainment, like rides on well-groomed camels in chic Arabian halters and saddles, as well as falcon and hawk shows and rotating performances of fire breathers, unusual acrobatic acts and belly dancers in elegant outfits.

She aimed for the camp to prioritize sustainability by eliminating the use of plastic and relying primarily on solar power for energy. “I submitted this plan six years ago—sustainability wasn’t a common word found in business plans back then,” she says.

Today around 20% of the heavy machinery relies on generators, the remaining 80% is powered by solar energy.

Kids Have Their Own Menu—And Marshmallows

The camp welcomes up to 250 guests per night, starting at around $180 per person in the off-season. Children pay less and profit from Reichenbach’s experience as a mother of four.

Activities for kids include dune sand-boarding, beach volleyball and soft archery. They can order chicken bao buns and mini Wagyu beef hamburgers from the children’s menu or get a henna tattoo first.

For dessert they gather around a campfire to roast big marshmallows to gooey perfection. Then they head off to a cozy theater to watch movies under the night sky.

"Children here should be able to choose what they would like to do and when. The same goes for adults: I didn’t want anyone to have a strict time schedule," says Reichenbach.

The black angus beef tagliata is served next to a lamb shank with a demi-glace and fresh ... [+] chimichurri-sauce.

The grown-ups can also decide when and whether they’d like to jump on a camel, show off their skills at a desert sport or simply relax in a hammock with a sundowner from the cocktail menu.

Many of the alcoholic beverages were specifically designed for Sonara by some of the city’s best bartenders. One of the most popular is the "Desert Flower,” a combination of tequila, honey, basil, raspberry and pineapple. And the "Nara's Signature,” with bourbon, date juice and a dash of orange bitters. Both go well with the appetizers served during sunset, like the creamy smoked salmon buckwheat blinis, pico de gallo panipuris and mini tuna tacos.

Once the sun has set and the stars are out, it’s time for guests to head to the lower level down a big, wooden staircase. The handrails are wrapped in string lights emanating a warm glow. More torches guide the way to the dinner tables set with white tablecloths and yes, hand-painted ceramic plates.

Waiters serve a three-course family style dinner with 14 different dishes. A typical appetizer is the tropical ceviche from local fish marinated in coconut milk and fresh herbs. Some of the mains are: freshly grilled prawns infused with lemon, coriander and black olives, firewood grilled black angus tagliata and a lamb rack served with a rosemary, thyme and mustard crust.

Sonara’s Success Inspired More Ventures

The Sonara concept worked—the company grew from three employees in the founding year to more than 200 today.

And it has inspired Reichenbach to try a few more ventures. There are two additional camps like Sonara, one for private events and the other further up the coast in Ras Al Khaimah.

The mother company Nara Desert Escape also includes an event and catering business, guided tours through Dubai and boat cruises through the waterways of the Omani Gulf.

The Nest by Sonara is Reichenbach's new venture: A glamping experience in the middle of the desert.

Most recently, Reichenbach added desert glamping to the company's portfolio. Fourteen spacious tents allow guests to spend the night in the sandy wilderness. But they aren’t just your ordinary tent: They all have a bathroom suite with a walk-in shower, high-end furniture, panoramic windows and a tiny fridge with refreshments like a mini champagne bottle. Prices start at $600 per night. Star-gazing and visits from curious gazelles are free of charge.

And her next project is already in the pipeline: a dinner and show evening aboard large traditional dhow boats. "The Dhow by Sonara" will cruise down the Dubai Canal, a three-kilometer-long waterway that runs from the old city center past the ultra-modern Business Bay area.

Her new venture is more than welcome in the emirate where traveler numbers continue to set new records. 17.15 million tourists came to Dubai last year, surpassing the previous peak of 16.73 million in 2019 before the pandemic struck.

They all contribute a large chunk to the economy of the United Arab Emirates. Leisure travel’s value was already at $42 billion in pre-pandemic 2019 and is projected to surge to $62.8 billion by 2028 .

Reichenbach has become a staple player in this industry, without ever needing external financing. She is still the sole owner of her company. But she prefers to stay tight-lipped about revenue: “If I revealed any of those details, my teenage sons would start pestering me for money every day.”

United Arab Emirates - Private Travel

Through grand landmarks and cultural sites, deserts and beaches, spas and sports clubs, the United Arab Emirates is one eye-opening extravaganza after another.

Travellers often hook their visit to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at Yas Marina Circuit, the Sheikh Zayed Festival or the renowned Abu Dhabi Film Festival.

The collection of seven regions that make up this Western Asia collective at the east end of the Arabian Peninsula include Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah and Umm Al Quwain. Of the population of 10 million, approximately eight million people are expatriates, comprising more than 200 nationalities. Dubai is filled with skyscrapers, palm-shaped man-made islands, palatial beach resorts and gargantuan shopping malls. A trip up the 160 storeys to the top of Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, is a must-do, as is the Al Fahidi Fort, home to the Dubai Museum. Abu Dhabi rises out of the Arabian Desert like an apparition – a luxurious mirage. Visitor stops include the Louvre Abu Dhabi and Emirates Palace. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is one of the most breathtaking buildings in the entire world, an astonishingly display of unrivalled craftsmanship. Outside the city centres, a couple of desert retreats truly stand out. The Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, the region’s first national park, is home to the amazing Al Maha Desert Resort & Spa. Hop in a private Land Rover and head to the sand dunes. And the Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara is a palatial paradise in the Rub’Al Khali Desert. Ras Al Khaimah, the most northern emirate, is well-known for its stunning private beaches. There’s sure to be a lounger waiting for you.

When it comes to vacations, we all have different priorities. From location and amenities to the local cuisine and weather, each of us has a specific set of criteria in mind when booking our perfect getaway.

The global hospitality industry also pays close attention to broader market trends, delving into what guests are looking for within each segment.

Stay up to date with the latest news. Follow KT on WhatsApp Channels.

One shift that has proven particularly interesting during recent years is the growing number of Millennial and Gen Z travellers visiting luxury resorts. However, the rising numbers of younger tourists embarking on more expensive vacations, doesn’t mean they are looking for the same experience as Gen X and Baby Boomer consumers.

The rise of ‘bleisure’

As its name suggests, ‘bleisure’ combines elements of both business and leisure tourism. Younger demographics are demonstrating a greater willingness to mix work and travel, enjoying the comfort and relaxation offered by luxury resorts without falling behind on their professional commitments.

According to research conducted by Cebr on behalf of Edyn, 51 per cent of Millennial and Gen Z respondents cited remote working facilities as an important consideration when choosing accommodation abroad.

Greater flexibility in terms of when they take their vacations, coupled with the ability to work remotely, is enabling ‘bleisure’ guests to capitalise on lower taxes.

These days, many luxury resorts are adjusting their offerings to fit the dynamic and hybrid lifestyles of younger, digital-savvy travellers, supplementing existing amenities to facilitate individuals who wish to work during their stay. In turn, these destinations are succeeding in boosting occupancy during traditionally off-peak travel seasons.

Ali Sajwani, Managing Director, DAMAC Properties

While it is true that a greater numbers of Millennial and Gen Z consumers are starting families, many others are looking for solo travel experiences. According to data published by Condor Ferries, 58 per cent of Millennials say they would go on vacation alone, and 26 per cent already have.

Personally, I do not find this trend surprising.

Going on vacation with family and friends can be great fun, but solo travel allows people to challenge their personal boundaries and embark on adventures without having to consider the needs of others. Given the shifting attitudes towards mental health and wellbeing among younger demographics, I can understand why some might see lone trips as the perfect opportunity to clear their minds, destress and learn more about themselves.

Giving the right impression

Many young travellers now choose aesthetically pleasing holiday destinations, so they can update their social media channels by uploading photos and videos of their trip. In fact, 48 per cent of people cite Instagram as an influence when choosing a destination for their next holiday.

On the surface, ‘Instagrammability’ may seem like a superficial reason to visit a destination, but I think this trend reflects a broader requirement among younger travellers – namely the prioritisation of experiential vacations.

Millennial and Gen Z travellers are looking to experience unique landscapes, iconic architecture and well-designed accommodations. They want to enjoy truly luxurious destinations while informing others about available offers.

As you might imagine, the widespread desire for ‘Instagrammable’ locations is having a pronounced effect on the luxury hospitality industry, with high-end resorts working to create more opportunities for guests to snap themselves in their lobbies, rooms and even while they’re eating.

In my opinion, the growing popularity of photogenic locations is serving to elevate standards within the luxury resort segment, opening up new and exciting opportunities for experiential travel. This trend is also providing free marketing for many destinations, so it really is a win-win situation.

A focus on authenticity

Many Millennial and Gen Z consumers are looking for luxury resorts that offer more than surface-level ‘bling’. Indeed, younger travellers are demanding unique experiences that provide opportunities to immerse themselves in the culture and heritage of the communities they are visiting.

According to the Condor Ferries research, an overwhelming – 86 per cent – of Millennials travel for cultural enrichment, actively avoiding tourist hotspots. What’s more, over half (60 per cent) of respondents rank authentic culture as an essential part of their vacation.

It is hardly surprising, therefore, to see high-end resorts going above and beyond to ensure guests have access to authentic experiences. From traditional décor and cuisine to local heritage tours and educational programmes, today’s luxury hospitality providers are placing as much emphasis on enrichment as they are on opulence.

Responsible travel options

Younger travellers have played an instrumental role in placing sustainability at the top of the luxury hospitality agenda. While this is an issue that spans generations, with people of all ages placing a high importance on environmental and social responsibility, many Millennials and members of Gen Z are looking to minimise their carbon footprints by going on vacations that positively contribute to local communities.

In terms of demographics, the youngest consumers are leading the charge for sustainable travel. According to a study conducted by Expedia Group, 56 per cent of Gen Z respondents want green and eco-friendly accommodation, and a similar proportion (54 per cent) say they are willing to pay more for green options. Younger generations are also demanding more ethical tourism activities, such as those that benefit local businesses and conservation efforts.

It is great to see Millennial and Gen Z consumers having a positive impact on the luxury resort segment, helping to raise standards across the board. I look forward to seeing how young travellers continue to reshape this industry in years to come.
