My husband and I just came back from our two week tour with Cosmos and could not be happier.

We had Camilla, a young woman as our tour director and she was not just perfectly organised, she also had a charming personality. She did not treat us as a group but talked to us as individuals.

She really made an effort to give us good background information on the places we visited as well as the country itself, its history and the local culture, she sometimes tweaked the program a bit so we would get a better experience.

She always gave as plenty of time for visits and lunch, (probably the most time we ever got from any tour director!) and we never felt rushed.

We made many, many stops and we really got a good impression of the country now.

I would recommend GOOD walking shoes. You will walk a lot and most of those old medieval towns have cobblestone streets and you need good soles for balance and support.

You always had the option to do as much or as little as you wanted. My husband and I like to discover old towns and we had over 80 miles of pure walking under our belts from those two weeks.

The tour is probably not ideal for somebody with walking or sitting issues. As I said, you will walk quite a bit but since we covered the whole country, we also sat in the bus for hours every day.

The bus itself was kept squeaky clean every day by our driver, Mr. Silvan, who did a terrific job driving as well. The seats had a lot of leg room, even for me and I am very tall. Free wifi was available in the bus as well but it was kind of spotty.

The hotels were very nice. We stayed mostly in Novotel or Ibis hotels and they were modern, spacious, clean and had free, good wifi service.

The one hotel nobody liked was in Avignon. The location was great but the rooms were TINY and the bathroom had the size of a bathroom in a cabin in a cruise ship and the breakfast was just not good.

All the other hotels were nice. Most of them were in a good location. (The nicest one was in Lyon .)

The only disappointment was, we used Toulouse and Lyon strictly as a sleepover. We did not get to see the cities at all.

We had five dinners included with the tour but the quality was average at best. The standard of those could definitely use some improvement.

Of the excusions offered we did the "Chateaus in the Loire Valley", which was fabulous and the "Cabaret night" in Paris.

It was okay. In retrospect I wish we would have gone to the Moulin Rouge instead, on our own. Some of it was really corny but some other acts, like the Trapeze act, was first class. It was not the best but not the worst I have ever seen either.

Tips I would give for the trip:

- Mont St. Michel, try to go at night, it looks magical when illuminated.

- participate in the Cognac tour in Cognac, it's very interesting

- walk around on your own in Bordeaux, the hotel is about 15 minutes to the old part of town and the cathedral is quite stunning

- go and see Versailles!! (We went on our own, took the loal train on the very last day and explored the garden. But beware, the property is enourmous, you WILL walk A LOT!)

- visit the fortress in Carcasonne

- look at the tapestry in the fortress in Angres, it's remarkable

- watch your belongigs, especially when you are about to enter or leave a train or bus. We had two people pick pocketed, always by young girls who worked in teams!

Overall, we really saw a ton and had a really good insight into France . At no point we felt unsafe, despite the recent terror attacks happening in Paris and Nice.

Paris and many other places were buzzing with people and people were out, having a good time. Places were as busy as ever.

We were really happy with this trip. Cosmos delivered again. It was a great value for the money and except for being on time, you didn't have to worry about anything. Everything was taken care of for you.

For us, this was the perfect vacation, we would recommend it highly.

Once in a while there are question about them but rarely people that have experience them to answer. Your report could be a good reference for those interested in that kind of trip.

I'm glad to hear that the OP enjoyed their trip - it sounds like they got to see a lot. I agree that the tapestries in Angers were very impressive - definitely take time to do the audioguide as it's excellent.

if you mean how many people were in the bus - 41. About 98 % of them Australians.

The only other review I saw about this tour is "years" old and not up to date. I could imagine it to be helpful for fellow travelers, thinking about this tour.

Our side trip to Monaco did not officially take place, because the Grand Prix was going on. Cosmos did not take anybody there, people who wanted to go had to take the train by themselves. We did not go because we had been there before.

First Trip with Cosmos and It was AMAZING

This was my first trip with Cosmos. It was pricey[-lets just say[- but you soon learn why. Obvioulsy travelling to South America you hear about all the scare mongering stuff and I was worried. How do we get to the the hotel from the airport and travel through these different countries but Cosmos had EVERYTHING planned out. Upon arrival in Rio-After experiencing Sao Paulo's immigration LOL-we were met with a Cosmos local guide and driver who whisked off into a waiting car and to the hotel. Fears immediately settled. Arriving at the hotel, they had our details but room wasn't ready so we had the morning to explore Copacabana beach. We then met the wonderful tour director-Fernando!-who explained the following days events, the excursion and any other information and answered all questions we had. Fernando was with us through out the whole trip until Chile. He was very organized, friendly, available at all times. He always ensured us 'Cosmos' group were together and organized our way through the airports. All transfers to and from airports he had all sorted. Plane tickets-he already got them. Just excellent organization. We stayed in some very nice and lovely hotels. The gem of them all was the Recanto hotel after a day of flying to Iguazu falls. The hotel was amazing and the included dinner-chefs kiss! We met many local guides who were all lovely and knowledgeable about their country but for me the standouts were Henry in Cusco and Nadia in Argentina. Henry was simply wonderful and kind to us all. He ensured we all knew he was there for us 24/7. And understanding that this may have been some of our first time at such high altitudes, he gave us sound advice. He took us through Machu Pichu and his knowledge of the Inca civilisation as we took our time exploring this magical place was amazing. He is a gem and future tours will be lucky to have him as a local guide. Nadia was also simply magical. She gave us sage advice about Buenas Aires. How to walk through. Her tour of the city was simply amazing. I fell in love with BA after having not much thought of it. The trip was simply wonderful from start to end. The highlights are obvious in terms of the big 3-Christ the Redeemer, Iguazu Falls and Machu Picchu-but the organization of the tour is to be commended. on the final day we had airport transfers...like every detail was taken into account. The included dinners and everyday breakfast a bonus at every hotel.
