Company Reviews

Booking aspen with the ski travel company.

Just wanted to write you a quick note to let you know what a fantastic time we had in Snowmass. Everything worked well. The Terracehouse apartment was brilliant. Comfortable apartment, fantastic location, great front desk to answer any questions.

The lessons were also fabulous (and we really appreciated the fact that we weren’t paying full price – we realised the extent of the discount when we bought our daughter one extra lesson!!)

Now just plotting our next ski holiday…although we’d love to go back there again! And, so you know, I’d never book an overseas ski holiday again with anyone but you – you and your colleague Susan (she helped with the insurance) were super helpful and the prices were really competitive. So, thank you.

Extremely Happy with Ski Travel Company

This is the second ski holiday that Melissa Crowley has organised for me to Sun Peaks. Both trips went seamlessly. She was always helpful, patient and thorough with all my requests.

I’ll have no hesitation in recommending Ski Travel Company for similar trips. Their advice and package deals are excellent value.

Niseko Hirafu ski holiday

Susan did a great job booking our flights, accommodation, Niseko airport bus transfer, ski hire, and lift tickets for our family trip – Sydney, tokyo, Niseko, back to Sydney. Suggest booking early to have choice of the best deals. I would recommend using the ski travel company.

Response from Ski Travel Company

Thank you Libby, glad it all went well for you!

Perfect Queenstown Ski Trip

A group of six of us booked a week in Queenstown from the 9th to 16th July 2023. All either 18 or 19 years old, it was our first overseas adventure and booking through the Ski Travel Company took all the hassle out of trying to organise our trip. They found us a great deal at a 4 star hotel in Queenstown, arranged all the ski passes, ski gear and mountain transport for a very reasonable price that all of us were happy with, even on a uni student budget! The booking process was super straightforward and the quote could be adjusted to our needs for transport/flights/insurance etc . Payments were made individually, making paying as a large group much easier.

In speaking to other mates in Queenstown at the same time, it was clear we’d done it right by booking through Ski Travel Company. Our accommodation was far superior to what others were staying at, and including the 4 days ski pass and ski hire, we had similar prices to those staying in hostels and backpackers for a week.

Everything about the trip was seamless, from collecting ski gear and passes to the mountain transfers each day. This definitely took the stress out of travelling alone for the first time and allowed us to all have a great time and enjoy our trip. We will definitely be using Ski Travel Company in the future!

Experts in ski travel

We had an amazing trip to Queenstown and stayed at the Oaks. Everything was taken care of by Susan at an economical price and it all went smoothly. All queries were answered in record time and nothing was ‘too hard’. Thanks for a memorable experience.

Canada ski trip

Hi Melissa,

Thank you so much for all your help booking our ski trip to Canada in 2024, it was an incredible experience! Your knowledge of the ski resorts, choice of hotels and complete package was excellent and made the whole process super easy.

We had one week in Sun Peaks and one week at Whistler.

Sun Peaks was amazing with ski-in ski-out, lots of terrain options, and the lift lines were virtually non-existent. I’d definitely go back to Sun Peaks.

Whistler is such a big mountain, and we were lucky enough to get fresh snow Monday morning but lift lines were so long (20+ minute wait). The r est of the week was blue sky and less people but less terrain to ski as the off-piste was all skied out. Really enjoyed Blackcomb mountain as there are more groomed runs (when you can’t go off-piste) with way less people.

The only negative experience was our flight to Kamloops with Westjet. Cancelled flight, lost bags, delays!

I would highly recommend using Ski Travel Company for a ski holiday.

A last minute decision to go to Canada Skiing in January and the lovely Melissa and Susan made it happen. We had the best week in Sun Peaks which was the perfect resort for our family.

Canada family ski holiday

Susan our agent organised everything including ski passes, transfers, accommodation and flights, she even managed to get a booking at our preferred accommodation in Big White when no availability showed online. Everything went to plan as organised. I’d highly recommend both Delta Suites in Whistler Village, the one bed apartment we had for 2 adults and 2 children was comfortable for 7 nights and was about a 7 minute walk to the gondola, with loads of shopping and restaurants in walking distance. We also loved the Sundance Resort in Big White, our 2 bedroom 2 bathroom condo was very cosy and comfortable with ski in ski out/walk to village . Kids loved the big pool and two hot tubs with fabulous views.

Michelle was incredible!

Working with Ski Travel Company to book my trip to Canada was an incredible experience!

Michelle helped me every step of the way, answered all of my questions and made me feel so at ease with the booking process, payments and follow ups. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to book a holiday.

Thanks Emma, we are so pleased everything went well at Big White!

Amazing and knowledgable service

Melissa was proactive with suggestions, booking and had timely responses. Even during the trip if there were changes to shuttle pick up servicing she was on top of this and made sure we were notified. It was very easy dealing with Ski Travel Company. Everything went very smoothly and the accomodation and services selected and booked were of a very good standard. Thank you. We would definitely use them again for ski travel.

Skiing Rusutsu

Just wanted to say what a fantastic job Michelle did for us.

The trip was one of the best we have been on.

Nothing was too much for her to organize.

Thank you so much Michelle

Amazing first time ski Japan

I gave Susan a very brief idea of what we were looking for – having never been to Japan before.

Susan planned us the most fantastic trip!

Flights, transfers, lessons, ski hire. All absolutely amazing! Tomamu was beautiful. Excellent snow and excellent food.

We loved it and are planning our next trip with Susan!

That was my first trip to Japan and I had an absolute blast

Hi Mel and Susan,

Just wanted to thankyou both for doing an amazing job of taking care of our trip to Japan.

That was my first trip to Japan and I had an absolute blast.

The accommodation in both destinations were so well located in both instances.

I know we chased you guys up in early December so the results you git us are even more remarkable

James House in Nozawa was essentially Board in and Out far better than friends who were at the other end of town getting on travelator every day and the

Swiss bakery 1minute walk away was always great for a quick Brekke.

And The HOTEL: WEISSE R HOF HAPPEI was hilarious. It was like a WIM WENDERS time capsule film set with a lovely family right in the heart of Happo.

Will definitely be booking thru you guys again for the next trip.

Awesome ski holiday thanks to Michelle and Ski Travel Company

We’re just back from an incredible time in Niseko and we can’t thank Michelle enough for all she did for us in organising and ensuring a smooth, seamless and hassle free holiday. From flights to transfers, to accommodation, lift tickets, lessons, ski gear and experiences and food and drink recommendations, Michelle’s knowledge and experience had every base covered and made for the ski holiday of a lifetime.

We loved Queenstown

I just wanted to say thank you for all your help with this trip. The accommodation was great, the transfers stopped just metres from our door, it was an easy walk to town (a bit hard coming back up the hill, especially after a few drinks) and everything worked out great.

We loved Queenstown and the skiing was pretty good despite not getting any fresh falls while we there. All in all it was a great holiday and we really appreciate the personalised service you provided for us.

Fantastic quick ski tip to NZ.

I just wanted to let you know that we had a fantastic quick ski tip to NZ.

Thank you very much for all your help on such short notice. Everything went very smoothly. Outdoor Sports were excellent. Info & Snow were excellent and the hotel was a fantastic location.

One change we made was to ski at Remarkables on the 3rd day as we had heard that Coronet Peak had poor snow. We were unfortunately not able to change our bus ride (they were fully booked to Remarkables) so the hotel arranged a private transfer for us. That all went smoothly as well.

It was all a great experience and we look forward to doing it again some day.

Thanks again.

well organised trip

Everything went like clockwork. No surprises. The itinerary was well laid out and everything was covered. Even little notes that made it easier to get where we needed to be.

Ski Gear Reviews

A complete look at the best ski gear for the 2024 season, from new all-mountain and powder skis to the coziest jackets and midlayers.

Ski Gear landing page

Switchback Travel ( Jason Hummel )

If your ski gear is even a few years old, there’s new technology out there that will help make good days on the snow even better. There are important considerations when making a purchase: What is your skill level? In what region do you ski the most? Powder or groomed? Do you ski in the backcountry? Your answers to these questions will narrow the search to the best category for gear and allow you to take advantage of all the modern day advances in ski technology. For our skiing recommendations below, we break down all the best gear for the 2024 season. We’ve picked the top performers in each category and tell you precisely what makes them the best. Our guide to the best all-mountain skis is for those who stay mostly inside the ropes, and our guide to the best alpine touring skis is for backcountry specialists that venture far from the chairlifts. We’ve also reviewed the top boots, bindings, poles, and accessories and apparel like goggles, helmets, jackets pants, gloves, and more.

Perfect throughout

Perfect throughout. I spoke to Jessie, Joe and Alice throughout the booking and they were all very professional and knowledgeable in the area we were looking at going skiing. They helped from start to finish and made the whole process very easy. Joe called back with updates on things I'd asked him within hours. I would highly recommend and would definitely use again.

Excellent from start to finish

Excellent from start to finish. Booked a last minute ski trip and everything was sorted for us, including transfer, hotel and flights. No problems at all, excellent communication and everything went as hassle free as possible

A very good company to organise your skiing

I usually book everything independently when I go skiing. This year we gave Heidi a try and very glad we did. A good deal, and excellent communication. Particularly appreciate the transfers as I don’t enjoy the drive up the mountain. All in all with Heidi I had absolute confidence that every thing was sorted. There were no problems but I knew if there were they would be promptly fixed.

Great skiing holiday with Heidi

Booked through Heidi fairly soon before our holiday but still had plenty of choice and options, such as different flights. Everything went very smoothly, from booking to returning home. Apartments were fine - typical budget Alps apartments. Private transfer was definitely a highlight! I'd definitely recommend Heidi and will book with them again.

Date of experience : 07 April 2024

Best package holiday company I have ever used!

I cannot commend Heidi enough. The booking process was so easy and straightforward. They were happy to answer any questions and their website simply had a better range of options for beginner skiers. The cherry on top was when Heidi realised sometime after we had completed our booking that the resort we were booked into would now be closed during our holiday dates. They contacted us in plenty of time to let us know and offered us two options of alternatives to pick from. Both matched our initial selections and one of them was a far superior offering to what we had already booked - at no additional charge. The information in the lead up to the holiday was also timely and helpful. Best package holiday company I have ever used! I would highly recommend them.

Excellent ski company

Excellent ski company, fourth time with them, cannot fault on aspect and the most competitive prices.

Totally amazing customer service

Totally amazing customer service! The team at Heidi are truly incredible and their focus on the customer and helping make problems go away is incredible! Everything was completely seamless and super efficient - just like clockwork. I will use Heidi for every ski trip - put simply they are totally brilliant! Thank you team at Heidi!

First Family Ski Trip

Just returned from our first family ski holiday to Avoriaz, booked through Heidi as all the other operators were too restrictive with dates- we wanted to go weds-weds. Lewis from Heidi ski was brilliant, from start to finish what was a daunting task of arranging and booking everything lift passes/ski hire, private transfers etc was seamless and so easy. Thanks Lewis! Will definitely book through Heidi again.

Date of experience : 03 April 2024

super holiday

From the booking experience which is straightforward and arrives at a holiday cost very quickly and simply; right through to the flight home; everything went smoothly and as hoped for. The flights, transfers and accommodation were all excellent. (Four days skiing in Chamonix with bluebird skies and decent spring snow also helped)

Outstanding service

Outstanding service when the end of the holiday didn’t exactly go to plan… I broke my leg and Heidi were incredible, keeping in touch with my husband who was in the UK, and making sure that my teen, who was on holiday with me, was well looked after and comfortable when they were left on their own and I was in hospital. Absolutely superb. And the whole experience before that was great, too!

Date of experience : 18 April 2024

Very impressed!

Very impressed from start to finish, especially as booking a short notice holiday. When I've done short notice holidays before, agents have been quite dismissive but not Heidi, they were so helpful and enthusiastic. I found all email correspondence very helpful, and all the third party companies they used (transfers, hire etc) were just as good. Really very impressed and will be using again.

Brilliant holiday great value - thanks

I didn’t think I could afford skiing this year for my family but after some on line searching we found a great package with Heidi. It was fantastic value compared to other places I researched. Booking was simple as too was the information about transfers, vouchers, ski hire etc. I had one query after booking and found it easy to get hold of an agent who sorted our issue by moving our lessons to a location that suited us better. We went to Chamonix and had one of the best holiday’s we have ever had. Will definitely be looking to do it again next year. Thanks.

Book your skiing holiday with this gem of a company!

Delight to build my package with Tom, our rep from Heidi. Nothing was too much and Tom was patient as we changed our mind and dates. The skiing holiday was great. A lovely apartment with great views of the Alps. The hotel owners were so helpful, as we checked in early and checked out late. The transfers were great. Really good communication, excellent prices and a wonderful service all round. Thoroughly recommended.

Effortless way to get on the slopes

This was my first time booking a ski holiday as usually we go with friends who do all the organising. Safe to say Heidi is now my new friend who does all the organising! From the initial browse of the website, all the way through the process it was easy to navigate and straightforward. Cannot fault the process at all. Loved the reminder emails and the contact in advance - the team just made everything effortless to do once we got there. Flights suited well, the private transfers were a bonus (and comms from the drivers spot on), the apartments in Avoriaz were nice, clean, comfortable and exactly suited our needs. Collecting ski hire and lift passes was exactly as described in the information and the service was excellent. No issues at all while we were away but based on how well everything went I feel confident had there been any issues they would have been sorted. Heidi clearly know their stuff and use trusted partners to deliver the service.

Great communication and the ‘My Booking’ section is very user friendly and helpful. The emergency contact details also give great peace of mind.

Where to start...pretty awful on all…

Where to start...pretty awful on all fronts especially when altering a booking. We were left in limbo not knowing if we had an extra room booked or not, having paid for it. Their online payment system to pay for additional expenses doesn't work. They didn't request our height, weight etc for our prebooked skis so couldn't pick up from pick up point and instead had to trudge a distance to wait in a long queue for our skis, boots and helmets. Hotel was good but that's not anything to do with Heidi...

Reply from Heidi

Hi there, Thank you for taking the time to leave us some feedback about your recent experience with Heidi. I’m sorry to hear that you feel let down by us and our booking process. In regards to the additional room that you had booked and the issues you had paying, I’m sorry if it took slightly longer than usual to confirm this for you, I can see that one of our customer support agents confirmed that everything was in place 2 days after the request was made and then again one week later after there was an error on our end that meant the additional room was not showing on your My Bookings page. I’m very sorry if this error caused you any stress before your holiday. I can see that this issue was resolved 3 weeks before the start date of your holiday. I’m sorry to hear that our online payments system was not working for you, it is very rare that we have issues with this system and our tech team is investigating why it did not work for you. As we have strong relationships with the ski hire shops in our resorts this means that they do not require us to enter measurements such as height and weight for our customers at the time of booking as they take these when you arrive in the shop. I am very sorry if this system was not honoured by the staff at the shop, we will be getting in contact with them to make sure that this does not happen to future customers. I’m glad to hear that your hotel was good and I hope that aside from the issues you’ve raised you had a lovely holiday. Thank you again for taking the time to leave us some feedback about your experience, we appreciate all of our customers concerns as it helps us to develop and improve our service for future customers. Best wishes, Harriet (Customer Support Agent)

A good holiday (with some ‘buts’)

Flights and transfers all good. Hotel staff really friendly and helpful. Room was small - 2 adults and a 10yr old given that we booked a ‘superior’ room. Shame there was a lot of construction activity going on during our stay - lorry’s arrived at 6am most mornings with lots of banging/ sawing etc and engines left running. Not exactly relaxing. Resort is great for beginners - easy access to lifts although with the above construction work, the nearest access to the piste was dangerous at times with lorry’s unloading etc. Late in the season too, so not quite ski in/ out. Food in the hotel was excellent - great variety each day and very tasty. Games area awesome for kids and library great for adults if like us, you forgot a book!

Perfect for short break, and cheaper than self booking!

Having done a lot of research for a self book holiday, Heidi offered the same holiday at a price we couldn't match, plus its ATOL protected. Their search engine was very fast. Our break was shorter than a standard 7 night holiday and was Wednesday to Sunday. All arangements worked pefectly while we were there. For this type of break I would definitely use them again and will check against other standard companies for a seven day break.

I actually could not fault the trip…

I actually could not fault the trip just had booked through Heidi There was nothing to cause hiccups The flights, transfers, hotel, hire and lift pass were all spot on. I know weather which is out of everyone s control helps and we were lucky with splendid weather. All logistics of the trip were excellent

Date of experience : 17 April 2024

Really helpful

Really helpful - contacted them by web chat to ask for recommendations for a family trip for beginners. Received a prompt email with some great suggestions from Joe and he was very helpful when I called to ask some questions before booking. Would recommend.

Sneak Peek: Our Favorite Skis For 2025 (So Far)

As the ski season in North America comes to a close, so does SKI’s 2024-’25 gear-testing cycle. From the minute lifts started spinning in November 2023, our editors, contributors, and resident gear nerds were clicking into early editions of 2025 ski models to check out what brands had in the pipeline for next winter.

Testing kicked off in early December in Vail, Colorado, where we spent a week with 25 brands skiing their latest and greatest for 2025. Afterwards, our editors and veteran gear reviewers scattered to the winds to attend various trade shows and press trips to dig deeper into new ski technology, manufacturing processes, and rack up more laps on new skis. Then in March, we reconvened at Mt. Rose, Nevada, for the 2024 SKI Test, a week-long event where 30 industry pros tested 143 pairs of skis to inform the reviews in SKI’s upcoming 2025 Winter Gear Guide.

Skis on racks on snow with skiers getting ready

We’re not about to give away the winners and losers from the SKI Test—you’ll have to wait until the fall for that intel. But we know skiers are a curious bunch (especially during spring ski sales), so we’ll throw a dog a bone. Of the 150-plus skis we tested—both tried-and-true favorites and brand-spanking-new models for next winter—here are nine that made a winning first impression on SKI’s gearheads.

Skier holding a pair of skis talking to another skier in front of ski racks

Since many ski brands have started dropping their new collections as early as the spring of the current season (as in, now ), some of these skis are already available online. And if you want to score a killer deal, look for the 2023-’24 models of skis that are getting updates for next winter—they will be steeply discounted since everything’s gotta go to make room for the new versions. You’re welcome.

2025 Nordica Enforcer 99

Nordica Enforcer 99

$800 at Evo

The only possible directive when redesigning a ski as classic as Nordica’s Enforcer 100 from the ground up is this: Do not mess it up. Well fear not, Nordica improved its benchmark ski in just about every way. The Austrian brand totally overhauled the ski for 2024-‘25, redesigning its tail shape for added maneuverability and putting the whole ski on a diet.

As someone who spends around 100 days on skis each year, I’m very skeptical about the impulse to serve intermediate skiers by dumbing down expert skis. But I can unequivocally say that Nordica nailed its updates to the Enforcer. Read more here . — Jake Stern , Outside Digital Editor

Peak 104 by Dav

Peak 104 by Dav

$549 at Peak

I absolutely loved this ski and was really impressed by how intuitive it felt. It’s easy to get on edge and is fluid through every turn, but it’s also springy and energetic through a variety of turn shapes.

Compared to the Bode version (same shape, different construction), which feels far more planted, this one with Chris Davenport’s name attached was more my style. As someone who isn’t always looking for top speed, I liked the slightly softer design. It was interesting to test both constructions back to back and really feel how different they ski. There’s no learning curve with this one—a few turns made it feel like I’d been skiing this ski my whole life. — Lily Ritter , contributor

2025 Rossignol Arcade 84

Rossignol Arcade 84

Flat ski coming fall 2024. System ski (with bindings) already available at Rossignol.

$850 with bindings from Rossignol

The Rossignol Arcade 84 was the biggest standout for me. It was so snappy, easy, and responsive—it corkscrewed down the fall line in perfect slalom turns with just the tip of your ankles. You could just think about turning, and it would dive into a perfect arc.

Easy to engage, perfect round turns, and easy exit to set you up for the next one. It put a huge smile on my face, and I didn’t want to hang it back up in the rack. With this ski in the quiver, high and dry groomer days are cause for celebration—not complaint. — Kimberly Beekman , contributor

2025 Blizzard Anomaly 88 all-mountain ski

Blizzard Anomaly 88

Coming fall 2024

For 2024-’25, Blizzard’s all-new Anomaly lineup is set to replace the brand’s Brahma , Bonafide, and Cochise skis. With four different waist widths (84, 88, 94, and 102 millimeters), the Anomaly family covers a lot of ground, which would have us believe that what Blizzard is going for is skis that can slap pow or groomers.

I found that each model lays over nice and easy, but also bends gently when you get into softer snow, or hit patches of variable. Curiously, I enjoyed the narrower-waisted Anomaly 88 most, even in deeper snow.  Read more here . — Matt Coté , contributor

2025 Atomic Maverick 105 CTi

Atomic Maverick 105 CTI

$975 at Atomic

The brainchild of Daron Rahlves, the new Maverick 105 CTI is one of those do-it-all skis that excels in almost all conditions. I like a ski that I have to push but isn’t a full-on plank, and the Maverick strikes that balance exceptionally well thanks to its mix of carbon and Titanal in the core.

I tested the Maverick 105 during an all-time storm in the Wasatch this January, and it kept me on top of the deep snow with just the right amount of surf. I’d put an A/T binding on this ski and use it as my one-ski quiver for deep backcountry days and all-mountain riding at the resort. — Kelly Klein , Outside Gear Editor

2025 Elan Ripstick 94 W Black Edition ski

Elan Ripstick 94 W Black Edition

Updated model coming fall 2024

I wouldn’t normally grab a 94-millimeter-waisted ski for the sunny, groomed conditions we were met with during early-season testing in Vail in December, but Elan’s revamped Ripstick 94W Black Edition proved me wrong.

These slick-looking, all-black planks oozed stability over the hard-pack conditions, making me feel supremely confident. I loved the rebound energy that continuously propelled me into my next turn, and how responsive these skis were to changing turn shapes on a dime, from long sweeping arcs to short poppy bursts. They also had no trouble charging through the late-morning crud and chop that developed on the few early-season trails that were open. — Samantha Berman , SKI Executive Editor

2025 Icelantic Nomad 112 ski

Icelantic Nomad 112

Icelantic hasn’t hit all the right notes for me in the past, but I guess the company’s been working on its singing voice. The Icelantic Nomad 112 has a smooth, even flex that pairs intuitively with its turn radius, and enough torsional rigidity to command an edge yet release when wanted. It’s snappier than it is damp, which is refreshing in a fat ski, and—impressively—doesn’t chatter.

The swing weight (along with a judiciously mid-range overall weight that doesn’t feel as chunky as in years past) is balanced by a mount point that’s a great compromise between progressive and traditional. Basically, it’s a go-anywhere fun machine that doesn’t kick your ass. — MC

2025 Dynastar M-Free 108 ski

Dynastar M-Free 108

Dynastar’s all-new M-Free 108 feels like a giant GS ski with a freestyle pedigree. I know—every ski right now is “versatile.” But when you can lay down large, arcing turns with confidence on morning groomers, peel out the tails halfway, bust a carve switch, and pop back to forward to arc another, well… there’s clearly some magic under the hood. The M-Free 108 is for directional skiers who want to pop and slash without sacrificing torsional rigidity. There’s a reason it’s the weapon of choice for so many skiers on the Freeride World Tour. — JS

2025 Black Diamond Impulse 98 Ti ski

Black Diamond Impulse 98 Ti

Black Diamond is doubling down on its resort-oriented Impulse skis by adding a layer of Titanal to them—something that was sorely missing in their all-mountain line in the past. Whereas the previous model was out of its depth on hardpack, the addition of metal gives the new Impulse 98 Ti enough backbone to hang on firmer snow conditions.

I felt like I could rail on these skis on fairly hard early-morning groomers during testing in Vail in December, yet they retained the easygoing, forgiving nature of the previous model featuring no metal. It’s not for hard-chargers or East Coasters, but skiers out West looking for a more relaxed yet versatile one-quiver option should put this one on their list. — Jenny Wiegand , Outside Associate Gear Director

Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations

Komsomolskaya metro station

Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.

Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.

Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.

The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow.   Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.

The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:

1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station  is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.

2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

3. Arbatskaya Metro Station served as a shelter during the Soviet-era. It is one of the largest and the deepest metro stations in Moscow.

4. Biblioteka Imeni Lenina Metro Station was built in 1935 and named after the Russian State Library. It is located near the library and has a big mosaic portrait of Lenin and yellow ceramic tiles on the track walls.

5. Kievskaya Metro Station was one of the first to be completed in Moscow. Named after the capital city of Ukraine by Kiev-born, Nikita Khruschev, Stalin's successor.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.

An excellent read! Thanks for much for sharing the Russian metro system with us. We're heading to Moscow in April and exploring the metro stations were on our list and after reading your post, I'm even more excited to go visit them. Thanks again 🙂

Will definitely book through Heidi again.

super holiday

Really helpful

Really helpful - contacted them by web chat to ask for recommendations for a family trip for beginners. Received a prompt email with some great suggestions from Joe and he was very helpful when I called to ask some questions before booking. Would recommend.
