Our travel stories.
Postcard from Vietnam
I had been wanting to take my boys somewhere extraordinary for ages. We have previously traveled as a family well worn routes through North America and Australia but now my wife and I thought it was time to challenge everything they thought they knew about the world. We decided on Vietnam in the hope it would provide a physical, emotional and sensory experience the boys would never forget. Our journey would take us firstly to Singapore for a gentle introduction to Asia then from the north of Vietnam near the Chinese border south to the Mekong Delta.
Postcard from South Africa
This was a trip of a lifetime and the experience enjoyed was difficult but words and pictures don't do it justice.
Postcard from Alaska
Alaska is an amazing destination if you love the outdoors (hiking, biking, canoeing, fishing) wildlife (bears, moose, whales, otters etc.) and of course the amazing scenic (fjords, glaciers, forest, mountains)...
Postcard from Japan
Japan surprised me in so many ways, it wasn't a destination I first thought about travelling to but that all changed. It is amazing how a country/culture can blend...
Postcard from California
This holiday isn't about what I did which of course included a visiting the port city of San Diego with it's museums, San Diego Zoo, and of course Legoland.
Postcard from Argentina
Argentina was an amazing place with some spectacular natural wonders (Iguazu Falls), interesting history, good food (a meat lovers paradise), great music and dance.
Postcards from India
I love India. It wasn't an instant love affair. First impressions after crossing the Nepali border in 1989 weren't great. Seventeen years on from that journey Kath and I now had the opportunity to revisit with our two boys Alex (13) and Liam (11) in tow. This time we would head south to the states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Postcards from Vietnam
I flew with Air New Zealand and Singapore Airlines to Vietnam via Singapore. We took advantage of the Singapore Airlines Stopover package. This package entitles you to a range of attractions for free, like the Gardens by the Bay including the Cloud Forest and Flower Dome.
Postcard from Rarotonga
Rarotonga.....
Arrived in Rarotonga and blasted with the heat as soon as my foot took that first step off the plane. Took a couple of minutes to get through immigration and 45 minutes waiting for our bags. A great welcome into Rarotonga airport with an elderly gentleman entertaining us with his guitar and voice which apparently has welcomed every flight into Rarotonga for the last 30 years.
Postcard from Thailand
Postcard from Italy
Postcard from Singapore
Singapore ! The lush manicured, clean tidy and safe city used to be a hub we used to stopovers en route to India, Asia, Africa and the UK, but now it really deserves a medal for a destination all on its own.

This Upstate NY city is one of the best college towns in the U.S., ranking finds

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. — Upstate New York is dotted with dream-worthy college towns where core memories are made as life-changing degrees are earned.
With great eateries, quirky shopping scenes and lively night scenes, those collegiate communities make great vacation spots. And one of the best-rated small college towns in the nation — a place loved by celebrities, horse enthusiasts, families and couples — is the gem of Upstate’s Capital Region.
Saratoga Springs has been named one of the best small college towns in America by USA Today’s 10Best . The list was created by an expert panel and voted on by readers.
The Spa City ranked 10th on the list that included Oxford, Mississippi, and Williamsburg, Virginia.
Just 40 minutes north of Albany, Saratoga Springs is home to two colleges: Empire State University, a SUNY school, and Skidmore College, a private college.

The city offers students from both colleges plenty of places to explore.
Saratoga Springs is synonymous with horse racing. The historic Saratoga Race Course , previously dubbed one of the 10 best horse racing tracks in the U.S. , is beloved by fancy-hat fans and celebrities alike; Chef Bobby Flay and Barstool Sport’s Dave Portnoy have both purchased homes near the track.
But racing isn’t the only adventure in Saratoga.
In its ranking, 10Best highlighted the city’s famous mineral springs at Saratoga Spa State Park , where visitors can taste the springs and swim in a historic Victoria Pool. The travel website also named the nearby Saratoga Lake as a draw for fans of water sports.
Other popular spots in Saratoga are:
- Congress Park, home to a wooden carousel
- Saratoga Performing Art Center, the amphitheater that hosts some of Upstate’s biggest concerts
- Broadway, a street lined with shops and eateries
Saratoga Springs is accustomed to accolades — including from New York Upstate. (Last year, we named the city as one of our 20 best places to visit in Upstate .) Saratoga has previously been named one of the nation’s most LGBTQ+ friendly small towns while Broadway, its commercial hub, has been voted among America’s best main streets .

NY School Worker Advances Suit Over Travel for Jewish Holy Days
By Patrick Dorrian
New Rochelle City School District will face the bulk of a Ashkenazi Jewish woman’s claims that she was removed as its medical director because she traveled to Trinidad and Tobago for religious reflection.
The ruling Tuesday is the latest to address how far courts may probe a worker’s religious beliefs when one sues for alleged religious discrimination. That question has played a significant role in the disposition by federal courts of the wave of job bias suits filed in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic and employer vaccination mandates.
Judges have a limited function in assessing whether religious beliefs are ...
