Liam Grehan’s final day charge never materialised as he faded away in the Clutch Pro Tour’s Challenge Series 2 at Frilford Heath Golf Club.
Grehan was just two shots adrift of overnight leader Max Orrin heading into the final round after an opening 67 but stumbled to a three-over 75 to drift out to a share of 14 th .
Orrin claimed a wire-to-wire win after rounds of 64 and 72 gave him a two shot win on eight-under as he earned the £3,000 winning prize.
K Club’s Grehan secured £250.00 but will rue a nightmarish start to his final round. The Irishman found himself four-over for his round after just five holes which put paid to his chances of winning.
To his credit, he rallied with a vengeance carding birdies on the seventh, eighth, tenth and twelfth to get back to level-par for the day and suddenly he had a lifeline.
Needing a big finish to put the pressure on Orrin at the summit Grehan faltered towards the final hurdle dropping three shots in his last two holes to come home in 37.
A bogey six on the par-5 17 th was followed by a second successive six on the 18 th as he double-bogeyed the last.

The event will take place across Frilford Heath’s Red Course, which has hosted several high-profile events over the past decade, including the 2013 English Amateur where Callum Shinkwin defeated Matt Fitzpatrick in the final. The Red Course has also hosted the 2018 Brabazon Trophy, European Tour First Stage Qualifying School since 2011 and Regional Open Qualifying since 2016.
Frilford Heath, founded in 1908, has three 18-hole championship courses; the Red, Blue, and Green which provide golfers of all abilities with a true test. Eddie Pepperell, who won the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters and the Sky Sports British Masters in 2018, learnt his trade at Frilford Heath and still retains strong ties to the club; having opened the par-three Yellow Course in 2018. The Yellow Course is designed to aid the development of all golfers, from the club’s best talents to those beginning their golfing journey.
The event will be run in partnership with the Clutch Pro Tour, who boast an inclusive schedule featuring a mix of male and female professional golfers and some of the UK’s best amateurs. Founded in 2019, the Clutch Pro Tour provides golfers with the perfect pathway to achieve success.
Presenting the tournament will be Rocket Yard Sports Marketing – a sports marketing and sponsorship agency whose sole mantra is that of ‘ Your Next Customer is Probably a Sports Fan’ . Rocket Yard Sports Marketing place a fundamental belief in the wide-reaching nature of sport and the positive impact it has on businesses and communities, and they will therefore be looking to deliver a myriad of engaging fan experiences bringing the public, the players and the tournament sponsors together.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=”” border=”no”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”1617″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” qode_css_animation=””][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][vc_column_text]Daryl Evans, Founder of Rocket Yard Sports said: “We’re hugely excited to be working with the Clutch Pro Tour in bringing the English Trophy to life. Tom Hayward, Director of the Clutch Pro Tour added: “Frilford Heath is an ideal addition to our schedule, with a rich history in hosting elite events. We believe that the partnership with Rocket Yard Sports Marketing also ensures fantastic value for all involved, particularly those coming to support from the local area. With our biggest season to date, our Tour continues to grow and we very much see the English Trophy as a marquee event in the 2022 season”.
Jamie Hodges, Head of Challenge Tour, said: “It is incredibly exciting to be able to take the Challenge Tour to Frilford Heath for the English Trophy presented by Rocket Yard Sports Marketing.

Russell Stebbings, Managing Director of Frilford Heath, said: “Working with England Golf, the European Tour group, and The R&A over the years has been fantastic for Frilford Heath in showcasing our club for the benefit of our members.
