🏫 Six Schools

Decker college of nursing and health sciences.

Let’s start with Decker College of Nursing. Ranked the fourth best nursing school in New York state, Decker has earned an enviable reputation among nursing programs worldwide. Recently, this college has moved to a brand new facility located at our Health Sciences Campus in Johnson City, right alongside our pharmacy school and not far from the City of Binghamton. There will soon be two additional schools within Decker College — the School of Rehabilitation Sciences and the School of Applied Health Sciences — which will add programs including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology and health sciences. Nursing students get to use high-end technology such as specialized patient simulators that can be programmed to breathe, bleed and talk, so they can practice their skills before working with real patients. Our alumni are clinicians, researchers, educators and administrators, and they are recruited by employers across the globe.

School of Management

The School of Management, (S-O-M, as we call it) is housed here in Academic A. SOM is a top-ranked business school that offers two majors -- business administration and accounting -- along with concentrations including marketing, business analytics, entrepreneurship and finance. The School of Management's Career Services office helps our students find quality internships all year round. SOM prepares students to confidently lead in a rapidly-changing data-driven economy. You’ll work hard in the classroom but will also learn the skills necessary to lead through business clubs and professional organizations, collegiate business competitions and networking opportunities with alumni and industry.

Harpur College of Arts and Sciences

Harpur College of Arts and Sciences is Binghamton’s largest and oldest school, providing an outstanding liberal arts education with more than 60 degree programs in the arts — from art history to theater — and sciences — from anthropology to physics. Harpur College also offers pre-law, pre-health and pre-pharmacy programs; 4+1 programs; and inter- and cross-disciplinary programs. With a focus on the pursuit of knowledge and discovery, not only will an education in the liberal arts prepare you for a rapidly changing job market, it will help you develop the ability to think deeply and critically about our complex world and to engage with life's most important and fascinating questions. It’s no surprise that Harpur graduates go on to successful careers in medicine, law, business, finance, education, the arts and public service.

Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science

The Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science offers undergraduate degree programs in biomedical engineering, computer science, electrical and computer engineering, mechanical engineering, and systems science and industrial engineering. We also offer students five-year programs that provide the opportunity to complete a BS and MBA within five years. First-year Watson students explore all of our engineering majors in a common first-year program that provides a solid foundation in the field of engineering. Engineering students get to work with industry partners through internship experiences, and join clubs and teams like Binghamton Motorsports and the Binghamton University Mars Rover Team. Our graduates are sought after by top companies including BAE Systems, Lockheed Martin, IBM, Texas Instruments and the Mayo Clinic.

School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences

The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, located at its Health Sciences Campus in nearby Johnson City, is Binghamton’s newest school and offers the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree. Although a graduate program, incoming first-year students who select pre-pharmacy as their interest are guaranteed a seat in the program through the Pharmacy Early Acceptance Program (PEAP) as long as they meet academic requirements. Students take classes in the newest pharmacy building in New York state and practice in ultra-modern labs. If you see yourself working as part of a healthcare team where you take care of patients and consult with doctors, nurses, social workers and others to improve the outcomes of patients’ healthcare outcomes, then a career in pharmacy could be for you! Modern pharmacy practice doesn’t take place in isolation. Pharmacists can specialize in areas like rural health, cardiology, and in fields that didn’t exist even 10 years ago!

College of Community and Public Affairs

The College of Community and Public Affairs (CCPA), located in downtown, Binghamton, is known for students taking what they learn in the classroom and applying that knowledge to the real world to make positive changes. CCPA is home to Social Work, Human Development, Teaching, Public Administration, Public Health, Student Affairs Administration and Sustainable Communities. Binghamton also houses its own Master of Science Work in Social Work, Master of Science in Human Rights including a PhD in Community Research and Action! CCPA students actually have two homes at Binghamton University. A mix of undergraduate and graduate students take their classes on Binghamton's main Vestal campus, while others learn at the University Downtown Center (UDC). Many students choose to live downtown so they can immerse themselves in the community and find internships!

Binghamton University Art Museum

The mission of the Binghamton University Art Museum is to collect, document, preserve, and present works of art from diverse cultures for the education and enjoyment of students, faculty, staff and members of the general public.

The museum presents exhibitions featuring works of art drawn from the permanent collection of approximately 3,000 objects, as well as objects on loan. Exhibitions are installed in the Main Gallery, the Susan M. Reifer ’65 and Stanley J. Reifer ’64 Mezzanine Gallery and the Nancy J. Powell Gallery, which itself consists of several small galleries. Exhibitions rotate regularly and are curated by museum staff, faculty members, and students. In addition to exhibitions, the museum offers other opportunities for visitors to engage with art. The Kenneth C. Lindsay Study Room provides students, faculty members and the general public a space in which they may view any work in the permanent collection. This room is also used for university classes and the short-term display of selected objects for educational purposes. An area leading into the Lindsay Study Room has recently been transformed into visible storage. Here, visitors may view objects that would otherwise be in vault storage, but are instead densely installed in glass cabinets. A specially designed tablet tour allows individuals to read short labels written by students from different disciplinary perspectives.

Binghamton University has released a statement to 12 News, stating: “We are in discussion with the demonstrators. We plan to have normal campus operations in the morning.”

Binghamton University Peace Quad tent encampment disbands

T he Binghamton Liberated Zone, a tent encampment set up by the Divest From Death Coalition, has been disbanded as of Friday afternoon.

According to a message from Binghamton University President Harvey Stenger, demonstrators ended their encampment at the conclusion of the school's set exemption period.

The Binghamton encampment comes as part of a recent series of protests, demonstrations and occupations at universities across the United States. Hundreds were arrested at Columbia University and City College in New York City earlier this week, and  police broke up encampment protests at SUNY Purchase  and  SUNY New Paltz late Thursday and arrested dozens more .

At the University of Rochester on Tuesday, more than a dozen  students gathered at an encampment  protesting Israel's invasion of Gaza and calling for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war. An encampment was also set up on Syracuse University's campus.

What is the Binghamton Liberated Zone?

On the last day of classes at Binghamton University Thursday morning, signs with drawn messages including "Let Gaza Live," and "Jews 4 Palestine," dotted a tent encampment on the campus' Peace Quad. Another sign, held by a student sitting on a rock several yards away, on the outskirts of the lawn, read, "Never forget the Oct. 7 massacre."

Binghamton's Divest From Death Coalition, according to its organizers, is a coalition of about 27 campus organizers and groups.

In an Instagram post published late Wednesday, the group asked Binghamton University administration to disclose the school's financial investments, establish a Palestinian Studies Department and end any connections with defense companies including Lockheed Martin and BAE Systems.

According to organizers the goal of the encampment is to bring the University to the table and have their demands heard.

According to Stenger's statement, the university values freedom of expression, and will condemn any forms of hatred and bigotry.

"I sincerely appreciate the manner in which members of the campus community have expressed themselves while respecting the beliefs and the rights of others," said Stenger. "I look forward to meeting with these student groups, offering support and listening to concerns. I thank everyone for your hard work and dedication throughout this academic year. You make Binghamton an incredible place to live, work and study every day."
