Tourist Information kiosks are not as ubiquitous in the United States as they are in Europe, but Visitor Information Centers do exist in Los Angeles if you know where to look for them. Their friendly multi-lingual staff can help you book hotels, tours, shows and attractions tickets or make dinner reservations. They can provide you with walking maps of the area around them and attraction brochures. They also often have discount shopping coupons available for nearby retailers. Unlike the better-staffed Visitor Centers, kiosks generally only provide maps, brochures, and directions and may not sell attraction and tour tickets.

In addition to these Visitor Centers, the information desk staff at shopping malls, and your hotel concierges can provide many of the same services. However, unlike your hotel concierge, the Visitor Information staff are not expecting a tip for selling you attraction tickets and making you reservations.

Los Angeles Visitors Information Center at Hollywood & Highland Location: On the 2nd Floor of the Hollywood & Highland shopping complex at 6801 Hollywood Blvd , #207, Hollywood, CA 90028 (moved inside from the previous location out front). It's now deep inside, to the left of the Dolby Theatre, next to the Starline Tours office. Hours: 9 am - 10 pm Monday through Saturday; 9 am - 7 pm Sundays Phone: (323) 467-6412 Parking: available for a nominal fee in the Hollywood and Highland parking structure or in metered spaces along the street. Note:  This Visitor Information Center has relocated 3 times within Hollywood & Highland, so if you don't find it at #207, check the directory for its new location.

Visitors Information Kiosk at Hollywood & Highland If you just need a quick map, there's a Visitor Information kiosk in the Babylon Courtyard at Hollywood & Highland Center . They do sell some attraction tickets, but only accept credit cards. However they don't validate parking, so for that you'll have to find suite 207 inside. Transit & Visitor Information Center Located at the end of the Metro Blue Line at the bus transit center, this Visitor Center is a street-front window, but it has a public restroom, which comes in handy if you just took the train from LA. Visit Reykjavik is first on our list of Reykjavik tourist information centers. It’s located in Reykjavik's city hall at Tjarnargata 11, 101 Reykjavík, Iceland, at the north end of Tjornin lake .

This conveniently-located center opened on January 16th, 2017. This tourist information center is Reykjavik's official tourist information and is open nearly every day of the year except for Christmas day.

Because of its central location, this center has plenty of great hotels nearby. These include Kvosin Downtown Hotel , which is only 153 yards (140 meters) away, and Hotel Reykjavik Saga , which is only 229 yards (210 meters) away. 

Visitors to Iceland can easily access helpful information if they stay at these accommodations.

Since its located inside Reykjavik's city hall, this center allows visitors to experience different art exhibitions, events, and concerts that the Reykjavik city hall occasionally hosts and view the city hall's spectacular 3D map of Iceland.

In addition, there are nearby landmarks that visitors shouldn't miss, one of which is the Althingi Parliament House . It’s one of the oldest forms of government in the world and is only 240 yards (220 meters) from Visit Reykjavik.

For visitors hoping to do some nearby shopping, Reykjavik city hall is right around the corner from Laugavegur shopping street , Reykjavik's main shopping street. Laugavegur is over a mile (nearly two kilometers) long. Along its pathway, various fun boutiques, delicious restaurants, and exciting bars meld together to offer visitors plenty of choices to shop, eat, and drink.

Next on this list is Reykjavik Tourist Information, another great tourist information center and a well-known travel agency. You’ll find them at Hverfisgata 105, 101 Reykjavik, Iceland, and they’re open from Monday to Friday.

Reykjavik Tourist Information was created in 2019 by entrepreneurs and tourism operators. Their mission is to provide visitors to Iceland with a genuine, thorough, and innovative experience so they can enjoy all that the land of ice and fire has to offer worry-free.

There are plenty of hotels available near the center. Such hotels include Fosshotel Baron , only 262 yards (240 meters) away, and Fosshotel Reykjavik , also a short walk from the information center.

Reykjavik Tourist Information is about 1.3 miles (2.1 kilometers) from the incredible Perlan museum . Perlan offers a unique museum experience dome-shaped building. Several exhibits allow visitors to explore and learn more about Iceland's vibrant culture, history, and nature.

When at Perlan, you must book admission to the Wonders of Iceland exhibit . The Wonders of Iceland is a one-of-a-kind encounter that allows visitors to immerse themselves in beautiful Icelandic nature. Here you can witness the internal magnificence of a glacier while experiencing its subzero temperatures.

What's On is a much-loved Reykjavik tourist information center. They have two conveniently located centers in downtown Reykjavik. You’ll find both What’s On offices along the mile-long stretch of the Laugavegur shopping street, ideally positioned near many Reykjavik restaurants and bars.

What's On started as a monthly magazine publication. It has been ongoing for the last 30 years, making it one of the oldest tourist magazines in Iceland.

Their main office is at Laugavegur 5, while their second office is at Laugavegur 54. Both What's On tourist information centers are open Monday to Sunday.

What's On's main office is near many excellent hotels, such as the Exeter hotel , which is only 765 yards (700 meters) away. Their second office is close to Alda hotel , only 120 yards (110 meters) from the tourist information center.

The second What’s On office is close to the breathtaking Hallgrimskirkja church . With its tower reaching a whopping 245 feet (74.5 meters) high, it's the tallest church in Iceland and the tallest building in Reykjavik. Visitors can pay to ascend to the church's observation tower and overlook the entire city.

What's On provides visitors with valuable information on events happening in Reykjavik, such as exciting music acts and even thrilling roller derby events.

Concerns raised over plans to close VisitScotland tourist information centres in Stirling and Aberfoyle

Scotland’s tourist board has announced plans to shut all of its visitor information centres – including in Aberfoyle and Stirling.

VisitScotland will close its network of information centres over the next two years as part of a strategy it says is designed to grow the visitor economy by influencing visitors in the planning of their trip before they leave home.

The information centre in Aberfoyle is located in Main Street whilst the Stirling outlet operates from the city’s Old Town Jail in St John Street at the Top of the Town.

VisitScotland says the move follows significant changes to the way people plan their holidays – with most using online resources and travel specialists to research and book all aspects of their trip.

The tourism body will now invest its resources and expertise in a digital-first strategy, where it will target channels it knows visitors use, to inspire and influence where they go, when they come and what they do – including promoting lesser-known destinations and quieter times of the year.

All VisitScotland information centres – known as iCentres – will operate as usual until the end of September as part of phased two-year closure programme. VisitScotland is currently engaging with stakeholders to discuss local arrangements.

Lord Thurso, VisitScotland chair, explained the decision, saying: “The tourism landscape has changed significantly in recent years. The demand for iCentres has reduced while the demand for online information and booking has continued to grow. In order to continue building demand and growing the value of tourism and events, it is vitally important that we target channels we know visitors use to influence them to visit Scotland.

“Our research shows that as an organisation, we have a greater and more impactful role to play in providing information before visitors travel. Prioritising a digital-first model of information provision allows us to reach potential visitors at those early planning stages when we can shape their future travel decisions. Together with businesses and our partners, we want to build on success and ensure that across all areas of our work – marketing, destination development, business advice, insights and events – we prioritise the activities that will deliver for our industry and for Scotland.

“By evolving our work in this way, we will be able to invest in the activities that will accelerate sustainable growth in the visitor economy, helping create jobs, sustain communities and attract investment for the future.”

It’s understood that no compulsory redundancies are planned, with staff instead redeployed within the organisation.

Reacting to the announcement, Stirling MSP Evelyn Tweed, who is also convener of the cross party group on tourism, said: “Earlier this week I met with VisitScotland’s chief exec Malcolm Roughead to discuss these changes and though I’m disappointed that these changes are felt necessary, I’m pleased that there will be no compulsory redundancies to staff and that they are being prioritised.

“I have asked that VisitScotland discuss plans with local communities as there will be concerns about empty units in popular tourist centres. I will continue to engage with VisitScotland to understand what the future of these units will be.”

Stirling MP Alyn Smith has offered to chair a round table of local stakeholders to explore what this means for local businesses and communities moving forward, saying: “We all want to see Stirling do well, and we’ve no shortage of history, culture and attractions. Let’s roll up our sleeves and get to work.”

Trossachs and Teith councillor Martin Earl says he is “extremely concerned” over the closure of the Aberfoyle outlet, adding: “There’s still a huge demand for face-to-face visitor information.

“One only has to look at the success of the now community-run centre in Callander to see that. Digital has a role, of course, but there remains a very important place for knowledgeable people imparting help, advice and support to our visitors.”

Mid Scotland and Fife MSP Alexander Stewart slammed the move, describing tourism as Scotland’s “bread and butter”. Mr Stewart said: “I’m absolutely appalled at this news from VisitScotland. Tourism is Scotland’s bread and butter and to dismantle any part of our excellent tourism infrastructure which has been built up over decades is totally inexcusable.

“Not all of our visitors have access to online facilities, especially the elderly or those who don’t feel confident with a computer.”

Danielle McRorie-Smith, director of Go Forth Stirling BID, expressed her sadness over the decision, but vowed that other organisations, such as BID, will “step in and fill the gap”.

“The BID has a team of friendly street ambassadors who are on hand in the city centre throughout the week to chat to visitors and tourists and signpost them to attractions and businesses which may be of interest to them”, she added.

“They are happy to give directions and provide recommendations for the many cafes, restaurants, shops and pubs Stirling has to offer.

“While many people do gain visitor information via digital platforms nowadays, we recognise the need for a human presence and are always striving to improve wayfinding around Stirling as part of our remit and future plans.”

Go Forth Stirling BID will also be opening a new office in Baker Street in time for the summer, providing a central base for staff and ambassadors and an opportunity for tourists to drop in and ask for directions and advice on an ad hoc basis.

The VisitScotland information centres in Callander and Tyndrum were previously axed due to a drop in footfall. The Tyndrum hub closed in October 2017, with the Callander centre closing in February 2019.

TOURISM BLOW: Visit Scotland to close all its information centres

VisitScotland’s entire network of information centres – including the one at Portree in Skye – will close over the next two years.

The agency say the closures will be part of a strategy designed to grow the visitor economy ‘by influencing visitors in the planning stage of their trip, before they leave home’.   

Visit Scotland – which used to have dozens of tourist information centres throughout the Highlands – currently operates just 25 premises, known as iCentres, spread across the country. 

When they close there will be no compulsory redundancies, with staff offered a range of options including reskilling, redeployment and voluntary redundancies.

The national tourism organisation said they have made the decision because of changes to the way people plan their holidays, with most using online resources and travel specialists to research and book all aspects of their trips.

This includes arranging accommodation and activities before they arrive at their destination.  

To adapt to this shift in behaviour, VisitScotland says it wants to invest its resources and expertise in a digital-first strategy. 

All VisitScotland information centres will operate as usual until the end of September as part of phased two-year closure programme.

Lord Thurso, VisitScotland chair, said: “The tourism landscape has changed significantly in recent years. The demand for iCentres has reduced while the demand for online information and booking has continued to grow. In order to continue building demand and growing the value of tourism and events, it is vitally important that we target channels we know visitors use to influence them to visit Scotland.

“Our research shows that as an organisation, we have a greater and more impactful role to play in providing information before visitors travel.

“Prioritising a digital-first model of information provision allows us to reach potential visitors at those early planning stages when we can shape their future travel decisions.

“Together with businesses and our partners, we want to build on success and ensure that across all areas of our work – marketing, destination development, business advice, insights and events – we prioritise the activities that will deliver for our industry and for Scotland.

“By evolving our work in this way, we will be able to invest in the activities that will accelerate sustainable growth in the visitor economy, helping create jobs, sustain communities and attract investment for the future.”

Changing the way we provide visitor information

Responding to changing consumer behaviour.

As part of our strategy to grow the visitor economy, we’re making changes to the way we provide visitor information. With the majority of people planning their holidays online, we’ll focus on influencing visitors at the planning stage before they leave home. 

As a result, our network of information centres (iCentres) will close over the next two years. 

This decision follows significant changes to the way people plan their holidays. This has led to a fall in demand for our iCentres with the majority of people now using online resources and travel specialists to plan and book all aspects of their trips. This includes arranging accommodation and activities before they arrive at their destination.   

We’re responding to this shift through investing our expertise and resources in a digital-first strategy to increase Scotland’s share of global travel. We will target channels we know visitors use to inspire and influence where they go, when they come and what they do, ensuring Scotland is a “must visit, must return” destination.  

All our iCentres will operate as usual until the end of September this year. We’ll then begin a phased programme of closures between then and the end of March 2026.   

We appreciate the integral part our iCentre teams play within many communities. Our staff are our priority throughout this change and we’re discussing with our iCentre team their options. There will be no compulsory redundancies.  

We’re also engaging with stakeholders to discuss local arrangements as we plan the closure programme.  

Our digital-first approach

Our new strategy supports our core purpose to drive the visitor economy and grow its value to Scotland.  It will ensure that we reach more people and influence visitors from Scotland’s key global markets. 

Importantly, our strategy will also support us in attracting visitors throughout the year and across Scotland, promoting lesser-known destinations and encouraging the spread of visitors.   

The way visitors access information and the sphere of influence has widened far beyond in-person and print media to include social media, influencer marketing, online inspiration and online booking. 

TikTok, YouTube, online travel websites and tools like AI are among the ways people now find and plan holiday experiences. 

We also know tour operators and travel agents have an important role to play, with almost two-thirds (64%) of international visitors to Scotland booking as part of a package.  

Scotland’s tourism industry has a proven track record of embracing change. Post-COVID, our collective efforts resulted in a strong recovery of international tourism with an increase in spend by international visitors to Scotland (to £1.5 billion in July - September 2023, up 16% in real terms from the same period in 2019 when adjusted for inflation).  

Together with businesses and our partners, we want to build on that success and ensure that across all areas of our work – marketing, destination development, business advice, insights and events – we prioritise the activities that will deliver for the industry and for Scotland.

As mentioned, our staff are our priority. The team have built up a close relationship with tourism businesses across the country and we’d like to thank the industry for their continued support throughout the years.

Prague visitor centre - na můstku.

Official tourist information centre of the City of Prague, so called Visitor Centre, run by Prague City Tourism. The latest tourist centre is located in the very centre of the city, at the crossroads of Na Můstku and Rytířská streets. It also includes an exchange office with clear exchange rates and fees, a small rest area for visitors and free Wi-Fi access.

Prague Visitor Centre - Staroměstská radnice (Old Town Hall)

Official tourist information centre of the City of Prague run by Prague City Tourism. Located in the historical Old Town Hall it is available for tourists 365 days a year.

Prague Visitor Centre – Prague Castle

The official Tourist Information Centre for the City of Prague is operated by Prague City Tourism. It is open to local and foreign visitors and Prague citizens 365 days a year. The Tourist Information Centre is located in the 3rd courtyard of Prague Castle.

VisitScotland to close all tourist information centres

VisitScotland is to close its network of tourist information centres to focus on a “digital-first” strategy as more people plan their trips online.

The national tourism organisation said that people had made significant changes to how they planned holidays, with most using travel specialists and online resources including TikTok, YouTube and websites. It added that tools that used artificial intelligence were becoming more popular in planning trips.

VisitScotland said that in response it would invest resources in a strategy designed to influence people as they made plans before setting off.

Critics raised concerns that the closures would be a “blow” to towns and would disadvantage some tourists, particularly the elderly.
