From Wikipedia :

On the Run was a concert tour by English singer-songwriter Paul McCartney. The tour began on 15 July 2011, with McCartney’s first two concerts at Yankee Stadium in New York City. McCartney’s appearances at Yankee Stadium occurred nearly two years to the day after his 17, 18, and 21 July 2009 concerts at Citi Field, documented on the Good Evening New York City CD/DVD. Contents Background The tour was promoted by AEG Live, and six of the eight shows in the first leg (with the exception of the Yankee Stadium shows) were presented by HP. The Mexican concerts were promoted by Nextel. In an interview with Billboard in February 2012, McCartney said of his tour band: “Aren’t they cool? We’re having a really great time, and last year we played quite a few dates. They’re such a pleasure to play with. We all enjoy each other’s company and the musicianship, and next month we will have been playing together 10 years. That’s long enough to make us a proper band.” In North America In response to overwhelming popular demand for tickets to McCartney’s 15 July Yankee Stadium debut, a second date was added for Saturday, 16 July. McCartney also performed on three more dates on the tour: 24 July at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan, 31 July at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois, and 4 August at The Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio. McCartney’s Detroit, Chicago and Cincinnati stadium gigs were hugely anticipated returns to cities with that have hosted historical performances in the past: The 24 July Comerica Park and 31 July Wrigley Field shows were his first visits to the Detroit area and Chicago since 2005 (McCartney has not performed within Detroit City limits since 1976 during the Wings Over America Tour), while the 4 August Great American Ball Park was his first Cincinnati appearance in 18 years, his last show in the city being on The New World Tour in 1993. In Latin America In Montevideo, Uruguay all tickets were sold-out in about 40 minutes. On 15 April, McCartney performed for over a 54,000 sold-out crowd in the Estadio Centenario for the first time in Uruguay. The artist also visited Asunción, Paraguay for the first time in his career. In the Defensores del Chaco stadium he gave a show for more than 30,000 fans (29,000 sold tickets). He claimed after the show in his website that “he will never forget the lively Paraguayan crowd”. On 27 March, 29,000 tickets for McCartney’s 19 April first ever show in Colombia became available; 24 hours later 90% of the tickets were already sold. Days before the concert 2,000 extra tickets became available and sold-out in a couple of days. Hours before McCartney performed for the very first time in Colombia, less than 900 tickets hadn’t been sold, which made the concert a sold-out show. Paul performed for a 32,000 crowd at the Stadium El Campin for more than two hours and a half and declared that the audience in the show where possibly the best one he have had during all his career. For the first time in 19 years, McCartney performed the song “ Hope of Deliverance ” in Bogotá, Colombia, on 19 April, being it the very first time that he performed a song from Off the Ground album with his current line-up. Paul McCartney performed on 5 May 2012 at Omnilife Stadium at Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, his first concert in that city. For the first time, on 8 May 2012, he performed at Estadio Azteca, stating he was in front of “the loudest crowd ever”, and he finished his tour in Mexico with a free show at Zócalo; for this last one, attendance was estimated to be around 250,000 people, making it the biggest audience since the Kiev (350,000) and Quebec (250,000) shows.

From paulmccartney.com , October 10, 2011:

Today, Paul announces his new ‘On The Run’ tour is coming home and he will bring 2011 to a close with 11 special shows. Starting out with his first ever show in U.A.E at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the tour will then rock n’ roll into Europe and Russia. It concludes with a concert in Paul’s hometown of Liverpool exactly a year to the day since he played a tiny intimate show at Liverpool’s O2 Academy late last year, which ended with Paul handing out hot drinks to fans waiting outside the venue in freezing weather conditions. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Paul is already earning something of a reputation for his extraordinary Christmas homecoming shows after a series of special UK shows last December as well as his first ever, much talked about show at London’s O2 Arena in December 2009. These new dates will also take in the O2 Arena once more, Paul’s first visit back to the venue since using it to rehearse for his massive 2010/2011 ‘Up and Coming’ tour. As well as his first visit to Abu Dhabi, the ‘On The Run’ tour will see Paul’s first ever live show in Bologna, Italy as well as his first shows in Sweden and Finland in seven years. He also returns to France, Germany and England and will make his third ever appearance in Russia; his first of which was immortalised in the historic 2003 DVD ‘Paul McCartney Live in Red Square’ and his last being in 2004 in St Petersburg.
Playing live is one of the most exciting parts of my job. I’m really looking forward to the next run of shows and to playing places that I have never played before with my band. I’ll be starting with my first ever U.A.E concert and from there I’m on the run across Europe and Russia, before finally getting back to my hometown of Liverpool in time for Christmas. My audiences seem to get better each year and the band and I love the buzz and feedback that they give us. I can’t wait to see you all for some wild nights of rock n’ roll and partying Paul McCartney – From paulmccartney.com , October 10, 2011

Bill Maher - The WTF? Tour

Event information.

Comedian, writer, and producer Bill Maher has announced additional dates for his new stand-up show “ The WTF? Tour ”. The new run of shows includes a stop in Cincinnati, OH at Taft Theatre on September 29 .

ABOUT BILL MAHER

For more than twenty-five years, Bill Maher has set the boundaries of where funny, political talk can go on American television. First on “Politically Incorrect” (Comedy Central, ABC, 1993-2002), and for the last twenty years on HBO’s “Real Time,” Maher’s combination of unflinching honesty and big laughs have garnered him 41 Emmy nominations. Maher won his first Emmy in 2014 as executive producer for the HBO series, “VICE.” In October of 2008, this same combination was on display in Maher’s uproarious and unprecedented swipe at organized religion, “Religulous,” directed by Larry Charles (“Borat”).

Most recently, Bill launched a new podcast, “Club Random with Bill Maher.” The podcast records at the bar on Bill's property in Los Angeles, called Club Random, where he hosts hour-long, one-on-one interviews with a wide range of eclectic guests. Each episode features free flowing, longform conversations about anything and everything, except politics. Guests have included William Shatner, Quentin Tarantino, Bella Thorne, Adam Carolla, Killer Mike, Judd Apatow, and many more. Within a week of launching, the podcast hit #1 on Apple Podcasts.

In addition to his television program – which has featured such visitors as President Barack Obama, Vice President Joseph Biden, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Howard Stern, Barbra Streisand, Kerry Washington, Michael Steele, Megyn Kelly, Ronan Farrow, Howard Dean, Michael Moore, Eva Longoria, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Jim Carrey, Gen. Wesley Clark, Susan Sarandon, Gary Hart and Pat Buchanan – Maher has written five bestsellers: “True Story,” “Does Anybody Have a Problem with That? Politically Incorrect’s Greatest Hits,” “When You Ride Alone, You Ride with Bin Laden,” “New Rules: Polite Musings from a Timid Observer, ” and, “The New New Rules: A Funny Look at How Everybody But Me Has Their Head Up Their Ass.”

Maher started his career as a stand-up comedian in 1979, and still performs at least fifty dates a year in Las Vegas and in sold out theaters all across the country. Bill has also been recognized with numerous Emmy nominations for his stand-up specials for HBO. He’s done 12 solo specials for the premium cable channel including, “Bill Maher: Be More Cynical” (2000), “I’m Swiss” (2005), “Bill Maher … But I’m Not Wrong” (2010), “Bill Maher: Live From Oklahoma“ (2018), and his most recent, “#Adulting”(2022).

Maher was born in New York City, raised in River Vale, N.J. and went to Cornell University. He now resides in Los Angeles.

On The Run Tour

Great experience with great seats! Went to the ball park for the Beyonce & Jay-Z concert. The ballpark staff was more than accomodating. I just wish there were more exits open when we were trying to leave.

Stadium was easy to get into and out of. Had plenty of food to offer. Every seat is a great view of the game. Parking around the stadium is plentiful, and average for a ball game. One drawback, not much shade. Only issue we had was that we collect postcards and refrigerator magnets from the stadiums but this ballpark didn;t offer due to naming rights.

Enjoyed all of the surroundings at the ballpark from the restaurants surrounding the ballpark to the areas down along the river, to the ballpark itself. There is a lot to do down there and it is very fun.

If you go here for a game I suggest sitting in the sun/moon deck. The seats are awesome and you can see the whole stadium. Also you might get a home-run ball if your lucky.

Favorite baseball team ! Got free tix in great seats from work ! Definitely try a hot met with all the fixings !

Enjoyed our experience at this nicely located ball park. Good sight lines and like that the stadium is right on the river downtown. Good concessions.Stadium is well kept and clean. Parking is expensive as that can be expected. Enjoyable day at the game.

Riverdance – 25th anniversary show, march 31 - april 2, 2023 | music hall - springer auditorium.

The 25 th anniversary production of Riverdance will continue its critically acclaimed tour in over 50 cities across North America in 2023, making a much-anticipated stop in Cincinnati for five performances from March 31 – April 2, 2023 at Music Hall’s Springer Auditorium.  The event is part of the Cincinnati Arts Association’s 2022-23 Season.

Tickets go on sale Friday, September 16 at 10:00 AM at www.CincinnatiArts.org , (513) 621-ARTS [2787], and the Aronoff Center and Music Hall Ticket Offices. Group discount tickets for 10 or more are available by calling (513) 977-4157.

Riverdance – 25 th Anniversary Show is Riverdance as you’ve never seen it before – a powerful and stirring reinvention of this beloved favorite, celebrated the world over for its Grammy Award-winning score and the thrilling energy and passion of its Irish and international dance. Composer Bill Whelan has re-recorded his mesmerizing soundtrack, while producer Moya Doherty and director John McColgan have completely reimagined the ground-breaking show with innovative and spectacular lighting, video, stage, and costume designs.

Immerse yourself in the extraordinary power and grace of its music and dance – beloved by fans of all ages. Fall in love with the magic of Riverdance all over again.

The critically acclaimed 25 th Anniversary North American Tour was shut down in March 2020 during a sold-out return engagement at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, Riverdance celebrated a return to the stage in the United Kingdom, where the iconic show played to sold-out audiences in 27 cities across the country. Then followed its debut at Expo 2020 Dubai with a special production of Riverdance presenting a multi-cultural experience that included artists from the Middle East region. A highlight of the four-week run was the Riverdance performance at Expo 2020 Dubai’s USA Pavilion for its Thanksgiving Day celebrations.

Riverdance – The Animated Adventure was released on Netflix in the United States on January 14, 2022, where it swiftly landed a spot on the streamer’s Global Top 10 list. With an original score by Grammy Award-winning composer Bill Whelan, the animated musical comedy features the incredible craft and skill of the Riverdance troupe by utilizing motion capture of their performances to create the animated dancing in the film. Tour lead dancers Maggie Darlington and Anna Mai Fitzpatrick and executive producer/director Padraic Moyles were involved with the dance production for the film, while tour musicians Mark Alfred and Tara Howley play on the film score.

Riverdance began its journey as the interval act in the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest, produced for television by Moya Doherty. This electrifying and innovative seven-minute dance piece was then developed into a full-length stage show by producer Moya Doherty, composer Bill Whelan, and director John McColgan. With its fusion of Irish and international music and dance, the show broke all box office records during its world première run in Dublin in early 1995. When the show transferred to London, the reaction was unprecedented. There followed a hugely successful tour starting in New York in March 1996, where eight sold-out shows at Radio City Music Hall heralded the start of more than two decades of touring by Riverdance companies throughout North America. Since its inception, Riverdance has packed theaters throughout North America, Oceania, Asia, Europe, South Africa, and South America.

Riverdance – 25 th Anniversary Show has been designed by lead designer Peter Canning, featuring sets by Alan Farquharson, lighting by Andrew Voller, video by Cosmo AV, costumes by Joan Bergin, and sound by Michael O’Gorman.

Riverdance – 25 th Anniversary Show Performance Schedule

  • Friday, March 31 @ 8:00 PM
  • Saturday, April 1 @ 2:00 PM & 8:00 PM
  • Sunday, April 2 @ 1:00 PM & 6:30 PM

Since Riverdance began performances in Dublin in 1995, the show has…

  • Played 12,340 performances
  • Been seen live by over 28 million people in 550 venues worldwide
  • Played throughout 48 countries across 6 continents
  • Played to a global television audience of more than 3.5 billion people
  • Sold over 3 million copies of the Grammy Award-winning CD
  • Sold 10 million Riverdance videos & DVDs.

In addition, Riverdance holds the Guinness World Record for the “Longest Riverdance Line,” which featured 1,693 participants. Since the Riverdance Summer School began in 2015, more than 2,000 Irish dancers from 23 countries worldwide have attended the school and learned the iconic Riverdance steps.

on the run tour cincinnati ohio

The  Powerball jackpot  for Saturday's drawing was worth $1.326 billion when a winning ticket was announced on Sunday, following a delay.

The jackpot was initially worth an estimated $1.3 billion after there was no jackpot winner in Wednesday's drawing.

The numbers were scheduled to be rolled and selected just after 11 p.m. ET on Saturday but were delayed because required "pre-draw procedures" were not completed.

We have the winning numbers below.

The drawing winner could take home $621 million if they choose the cash option, according to the lottery.

'Don't wear your eclipse glasses while driving': Ohio officials share solar eclipse tips

on the run tour cincinnati ohio

By now, you've probably heard it all when it comes to Monday's solar eclipse: Don't stare at the sun. Prepare for traffic.

But Gov. Mike DeWine and other state officials held one more news conference on Friday to ensure Ohioans are prepared. The 124-mile-wide path of totality  will cross the Buckeye State from southwest to northeast, briefly blanketing cities like Dayton, Mansfield, Akron and Cleveland in darkness.

"The last time Ohio experienced a total solar eclipse was 1806," DeWine said. "Edward Tiffin was governor, the capital was in Chillicothe and the state was only three years old. The next total solar eclipse in Ohio won't happen until 2099. There's certainly no better place to experience the eclipse than in the birthplace of aviation."

State officials expect anywhere from 150,000 to 575,000 visitors, in addition to the 7.2 million Ohioans who live along the path of totality.

DeWine activating Emergency Response Center for eclipse

DeWine also announced Friday that he's activating the Emergency Response Center beginning Sunday until at least Tuesday, a precaution that will allow state agencies to coordinate if problems come up. At this point, the governor is not activating the Ohio National Guard, but members will be on standby if needed.

"We don't always have a lot of time leading up to events, so having 200 years in the making has been very helpful," said Sima Merick, director of the Ohio Emergency Management Agency.

Here are some tips and other information to keep in mind as you get ready for Monday.

Don't wear eclipse glasses while driving

Ohio Department of Transportation Director Jack Marchbanks reminded motorists not to wear eclipse glasses while on the road− they aren't sunglasses, after all.

"Don't wear your eclipse glasses while driving," he said.

You also shouldn't pull over on the side of the road to view the eclipse.

Traffic is expected to be the worst immediately afterward, when people decide to hit the road and head home. Officials are encouraging people to hang back and enjoy other activities or even spend the night where they watch the eclipse. For those who brave the roads:

  • Be patient.
  • Make sure your gas tank is full.
  • Bring a cell phone charger, snacks, water and a paper map.
  • If you travel with family or friends, make sure you have a plan in case you get separated.
  • Bring water and food for pets if they accompany you, and build in stops for them along the way.

Travelers can monitor traffic conditions at ohgo.com . The OHGO app is also available to download on the Apple and Google app stores.

Don't stare at the sun

It's not safe to look directly at the sun, even through a camera lens or telescope, according to the Ohio Department of Health . Make sure you're equipped with proper eyewear and be aware of online scams for eclipse glasses.

The American Astronomical Society has a list of approved glasses vendors .

How people who are visually impaired can enjoy eclipse

Ohio is offering LightSound technology at state parks and wildlife areas for people who are blind or have low vision. It uses sonification to convert light data into audible tones, which tells listeners where the moon is throughout the eclipse. The devices will be connected to speakers so groups can experience it together.

LightSound will be available at the following locations: Alum Creek State Park, Buck Creek State Park, Delaware State Park, Delaware Wildlife Area Shooting Range, East Harbor State Park, Findley State Park, Geneva State Park, Grand Lake St Marys State Park, Headlands Beach State Park, Hueston Woods State Park, Indian Lake State Park, John Bryan State Park, Kelleys Island State Park, Lake Loramie State Park, Magee Marsh Wildlife Area, Malabar Farm State Park, Maumee Bay State Park, Mohican State Park, Mosquito Lake State Park, Mt. Gilead State Park, Portage Lakes State Park, Punderson State Park, Pymatuning State Park, Spring Valley Wildlife Area Shooting Range, Sycamore State Park, Van Buren State Park, West Branch State Park, Wildlife District Three Office, Wingfoot Lake State Park.

You can help Ohio DNR

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is asking eclipse-viewers to document what they notice about wildlife before, during and after the eclipse. Nocturnal animals may start stirring, while other critters could start making noise.

Those who are interested can share their findings on iNaturalist .

"There's not a lot of great data," Ohio DNR director Mary Mertz said. "There's a lot of anecdotes, but not a lot of great, solid data on what happens. We think crowdsourcing this and using new technology is an opportunity to gather that data."

'Everybody on the team is just a solid player': Lakota East starts run to retake GMC title

on the run tour cincinnati ohio

The Enquirer went to a game of duck, duck, goose and some volleyball broke out.

Lakota East took a trip to Oak Hills on Thursday, April 4, in the first Greater Miami Conference game of the season for the Thunderhawks . Early in the third game, a stoppage occurred to check if Lakota East was out of rotation, and a lengthy delay ensued. However, the wrong lineup was entered and needed to be corrected. In the meantime, Lakota East's players sat down and playfully started a game of duck, duck, goose and soon the Highlanders also joined in.

"I've never seen that, it was a first for me," Lakota East head coach Bryant Kuhlman said.

After play resumed, Lakota East quickly returned to volleyball mode and finished the three-set sweep 25-13, 25-11, 25-9. The victory was a step in Lakota East's goal to reclaim the GMC championship while becoming the next Greater Cincinnati public school to make noise in the boys volleyball postseason.

Working to end the Sycamore title run

Lakota East claimed the GMC crown in five of six seasons from 2014-2019, including a four-peat in the last of those four seasons. That run ended with the canceled 2020 season, giving way to the Sycamore Aviators winning the conference in the last three seasons.

Last year, Lakota East traveled to Sycamore to begin its GMC season, falling in five sets to the Aviators. That proved to be the difference as Sycamore went 8-0 in the conference while the Thunderhawks were 7-1.

"We definitely want to win the GMC this year," Lakota East senior setter Carson Hill said. "I've been on this team since I was a freshman and I've never won it and we've lost to Sycamore every year. It definitely feels good and it's hopefully a good start."

The two teams don't meet until April 24 when Sycamore goes on the road for Lakota East's penultimate conference game, but the season goes one game at a time.

"We definitely want to get back on top in the conference for sure and I know the guys have that mind as well," Kuhlman said. "This was a great start to heading in that direction for sure."

A trend of growing programs

In the region and state, Greater Catholic League volleyball teams have control. Moeller has won three consecutive Division I state championships while Elder and St. Xavier frequently make deep state runs. In Division II, Badin, Fenwick and McNicholas have recently advanced to or won the state tournament.

In recent seasons, public school programs like Sycamore and Walnut Hills have made strides and increased the parity. Lakota East is trying to keep the trend going.

The Thunderhawks created a youth program and the benefits are starting to show at the high school level. Lakota East features three high school boys teams (also Junior Varsity and Junior Varsity B teams) for the first time in the program, according to Kuhlman, and the depth of players increases in response.

"I think that competition within itself, within the program, is really helpful," Kuhlman said. "It pushes each guy to get better with having three teams and the growth of a program.

"It helps to get players acclimated to the game at a younger age. When you get them started earlier, then you see the benefits of that in high school. Then your program is that much more competitive because you have guys that have been acclimated to the game for that long."

Meet the team

Three Lakota East players received all-region honors from the Ohio Boys Scholastic Volleyball Coaches Association last year and all three returned for the 2024 season.

Hill and opposite hitter Grant Simer were second-team all-region choices while libero Ryan Leisten was an honorable mention.

With stats through their first six matches, Hill led the GMC in assists while Simer was tied with teammate Aidan Terry for the conference lead in kills. Simer and Matteo Puddu were tied for second in blocks while Leisten was second in digs.

"Grant and Aidan have both been great," Hill said of his setting targets. "Grant's been on the team since he was a freshman and he's been a great right side to have. Whenever we're in ruts, I just lob it up to him and he'll get a kill.

"Aidan has really come on and he's gotten a lot better. He started playing volleyball around three years ago and he's just improved so much. The jump from last year to this year is tremendous. Everybody on the team is just a solid player."
