SPOILER ALERT: Do not read ahead if you have not watched Season 11, Episode 9 of “ The Masked Singer ,” “Group B Finals: Soundtrack of My Life Night,” which aired May 1 on Fox.

For years, the panelists on “The Masked Singer” have thrown out names like Corey Feldman , Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken while trying to figure out what celebrities were disguised on stage. This week, those names finally became true.

“The Masked Singer” revealed the latest celebrities to be revealed on Wednesday night’s Group B finale, and it was Feldman as the Seal and Studdard/Aiken together as the Beets.

The timing of the “Masked Singer” appearance is serendipity for Feldman, who’s about to embark on a summer tour with Limp Biskit and also has the film “The Birthday” — which had been sitting on a shelf for two decades — finally hitting theaters this fall via Drafthouse Films.

As for Studdard and Aiken, the “American Idol” alums toured last year to celebrate the 20 th anniversary of their landmark season on that show. Of course, “Masked Singer” was nothing like anything else they’ve ever done on stage.

“The challenge was trying not to fall on your face,” Studdard said. “As long as Clay and I have been singing, we got the singing part down pat. It was just making sure that we didn’t stumble and trip over one another. Especially because we really couldn’t see much of anything outside of the costumes.”

For Seal, Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg got it right with Corey Feldman. Rita Ora guessed Jerry O’Connell. Robin Thicke went with Feldman as well. Ken Jeong said it was Haley Joel Osment.

As for Beets, no one figured it out. Ken Jeong thought it was K-ci and Jojo (much to host Nick Cannon’s fury). Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg named Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet. Rita Ora guessed Cee-lo Green and Dangermouse. Robin Thicke went with Dan and Shay.

Feldman was first to be unveiled on Wednesday as Seal. Then came a battle royale between Gumball and Beets, with each performing their own version of “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life,” by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes. Beets was revealed as Studdard and Aiken, while Gumball will return for the semi-finals.

It  was “Soundtrack of My Life Night,” and the Group B performers opened by singing “It’s My Life” by Bon Jovi.

Corey Feldman as Seal and Clay Aiken/Ruben Studdard as Beets join Jenifer Lewis (Miss Cleocatra), Kate Flannery (Starfish), Charlie Wilson (Ugly Sweater), DeMarcus Ware (Koala), Colton Underwood (Love Bird), Sisqó (Lizard), Billy Bush (Sir Lion), Joe Bastianich (Spaghetti & Meatballs), Savannah Chrisley (Afghan Hound) and Kevin Hart (Book) as the celebrities unmasked on “The Masked Singer” this season.

Back for Season 11 are host Nick Cannon, alongside panelists Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Ken Jeong and Robin Thicke, while Rita Ora has joined the desk to fill in for Nicole Scherzinger, who was in London to star on the West End’s “Sunset Boulevard.”

“The Masked Singer” Season 11 features themed episodes including “The Wizard of Oz,” in celebration of the 85th anniversary of the classic film; “Transformers” (marking the brand’s 40th anniversary) and music tributes including “Billy Joel Night” and “Queen Night.” Additional themes include “Girl Groups,” “Soundtrack of My Life,” “TV Theme Night” and “Shower Anthems.”

With sixteen total celebrity singers, including three “wildcards,” Season 11 features new costumes including “Gumball,” “Lizard,” “Ugly Sweater,” “Goldfish,” “Starfish,” “Book,” “Gumball,” “Miss Cleocatra,” “Afghan Hound,” “Beets,” “Poodle Moth,” “Clock,” “Spaghetti & Meatballs,” “Lizard,” “Koala,” “Seal” and “Sir Lion.” According to the show, the Season 11 contestants boast a combined 22 Grammy nominations, 11 platinum albums, 33 Teen Choice nominations, 108 million records sold, 326 film appearances and 1.7 billion Spotify streams.

This means Group B winner Gumball will face off against Group A winner Goldfish and Group C’s Poodle Moth and Clock for the quarter finals.

• CELLO (61A: Instrument Bach wrote six suites for) Johann Sebastian Bach's six CELLO suites were composed between 1717 and 1723. Written for unaccompanied CELLO, the pieces are some of the most frequently performed CELLO solo compositions. Fun fact: Two artists have won Grammy Awards for Best Instrumental Soloist Performance for recordings of Bach's Unaccompanied CELLO Suites: Yo-Yo Ma (1985) and János Starker (1998).

• MOOLA (12A: $$$) and ATM (40A: Source of $$$) Show me the $$$! This is a fun pair of clues.
• TREE POSE (21A: Balancing stance also known as Vrikshasana) and ASANA (48A: 21-Across, for example) TREE POSE, or Vriskshasana, is one of the balancing ASANAs, or positions, in yoga. To get into TREE POSE, one stands on one leg, bending the other leg and placing the foot of that leg against the standing leg, either above or below the knee. The hands are either raised overhead, or placed palms together in front of the chest. Balance is not my strong suit, and I always feel incredibly accomplished on days when I can hold TREE POSE for more than a few moments.
• NAT (29A: ___ Geo Kids (educational magazine)) National Geographic Kids , or NAT Geo Kids , is a children's magazine published by the National Geographic Society. It's written for children 6-14 years of age. Originally published beginning in 1975 as National Geographic World , the magazine's title was changed in 2002. Regular NAT Geo Kids features include "Amazing Animals," "Kids Did It!," "Cool Inventions," and "Naughty Pets."
• TEN (33A: Big ___ Conference (group of 14 teams)) This clue made me laugh! The Big TEN Conference (stylized as B1G) is an NCAA Division 1 conference. As the clue states, there are currently 14 teams in the Big TEN conference (including the University of Iowa - Go Hawks!). However, soon there will be 18 teams in the Big TEN conference, as four schools have declared their intent to leave the Pac-12 conference and join the Big TEN in August of this year. I am not an expert on sports, but I have a suggestion for the NCAA – choose conference names that don't include a number. The Big 12 Conference currently includes 14 teams. The Pac-12 Conference currently has 12 teams (hooray!), but will have eight teams when the move I mentioned above takes place.
• ASIA (41A: Native continent for the slow loris) The slow loris is a nocturnal primate that lives in trees and has large round eyes adapted for night vision. There are nine species of slow loris, and they are all native to South and Southeast ASIA. Fun fact about the slow loris: It is the only venomous primate. The animals have a bare patch under their arm that secretes oil. When threatened, the slow loris licks the oil, which combines with their saliva to create venom. Today's appearance of ASIA in the grid is the sixth time we have seen it in the puzzle this month. Perhaps it's making up for the fact that we didn't see ASIA in the puzzle at all in February.
• NILE (42A: Egypts's river) Egypt is one of 11 African countries through which the NILE River flows. The NILE is Egypt's primary water source. Egypt's capital, Cairo, is located near the NILE River delta.
• TSINGTAO (45A: Popular Chinese beer) TSINGTAO Brewery is the second largest brewery in China. Its flagship product is TSINGTAO Beer, a pale lager. I learned about TSINGTAO beer from a puzzle a couple of years ago .
• HELIX (64A: DNA shape) Not just one HELIX, but two. The shape of DNA is described as a double HELIX . Hooray for science in the crossword! I can't pass up this opportunity to mention chemist and x-ray crystallographer, Rosalind Franklin (1920-1958). Her work on x-ray diffraction images of DNA led to the discovery of its double HELIX structure.
• ATHENA (8D: Zeus' daughter who was born from his head) In Greek mythology, ATHENA is the goddess of wisdom, handicraft, and warfare. Her father was Zeus, and ATHENA was said to have emerged from his forehead, fully grown and wearing a full set of armor. In one version of ATHENA's birth, she has no mother. In another version, ATHENA's mother is Metis, the first wife of Zeus. In this version of the story, Zeus swallows Metis when she is pregnant with ATHENA, and ATHENA is then born within Zeus and escapes through his forehead.
• MAE (12D: ___ C. Jemison (Endeavor astronaut)) MAE Jemison is an engineer, physician, and former NASA astronaut. She was a mission specialist on the Space Shuttle  Endeavor , and was the first Black woman to travel into space. She was also the first real-life astronaut to appear on  Star Trek . It is included in a Sunday paper during the month of December. The insert includes a number of types of puzzles, including an extra-large crossword. Last year's Super Mega Crossword was a 50x50 grid that had 1,282 words.
• NOLA (35D: Mardi Gras city, for short) New Orleans, Louisiana – NOLA, for short – is well-known for its Mardi Gras festival. Technically Mardi Gras, also known as Shrove Tuesday, is the Tuesday prior to Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent in the Christian tradition. However, NOLA celebrates Mardi Gras for approximately two weeks prior to Ash Wednesday. 
• IAN (37D: Singer-songwriter Janis) Janis IAN's two signature songs are "Society's Child (Baby I've Been Thinking)" (1966) and "At Seventeen" (1975). Did you know Janis IAN also writes science fiction? Some of her short stories have been published in anthologies. She also co-edited the anthology S tars: Original Stories Based on the Songs of Janis Ian.  
• LEO (39D: Fierce and courageous sign) LEO is the zodiac sign for those born between July 22 and August 23. As I mentioned last week when we saw "LEO RISING" as a puzzle title, I am a LEO. I don't pay much attention to astrological signs or horoscopes, but I appreciate being described as fierce and courageous.
• ARGON (50D: Most abundant noble gas in the atmosphere) The three most abundant gases in Earth's atmosphere are nitrogen (about 78%), oxygen (about 21), and ARGON (about 0.93%). ARGON is the only one of those three gases classified as a noble gas. I wrote about the noble gases last week when we saw ARGON and neon mentioned in a clue for INERT.
• NINA (53D: Singer Simone) NINA Simone (1933-2003) was a singer, songwriter, pianist, and civil rights activist. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018. NINA Simone's 1992 autobiography is titled I Put a Spell on You after the title track from her 1965 studio album.

Each theme answer contains a type of TEA: BLACK, WHITE, and GREEN. Moving from left to right, the TEA types are falling, or SPILLing from the top to the bottom of the grid.

This is a clever and fun theme. I like that the TEAs are not only found in the theme answers, but are also moving downward in the grid. For the last couple of years, I have had an open invitation to constructors to send me pet photos when their puzzles run. Civil rights leader Daisy Bates and singer Johnny Cash to replace Arkansas statues at U.S. Capitol

When Arkansas lawmakers decided five years ago to replace the statues representing the state at the U.S. Capitol, there was little objection to getting rid of the existing sculptures. The statues that had stood there for more than 100 years were obscure figures in the state’s history.

“I remember giving tours to constituents from Arkansas, to young people, and I would point out the two representatives in Statuary Hall in our United States Capitol from Arkansas,” said former Gov. Asa Hutchinson, who also served in Congress. “And they would say, ‘We’ve never heard of them.’”

Instead of two little-known figures from the 18th and 19th centuries, the state will soon be represented by the “Man in Black” and a woman who was instrumental in the fight over school desegregation.

Officials plan to install statues of civil rights leader Daisy Bates this week and musician Johnny Cash later this year.

Bates, who headed the state NAACP, mentored the Black students known as the Little Rock Nine who integrated Central High School in 1957. She is a well known civil rights figure in Arkansas, where a downtown street in the capital, Little Rock, is named in her honor. The state also marks Daisy Bates Day on Presidents Day.

If California yanks Junipero Serra’s statue from the U.S. Capitol, who should replace him?

California has two statues representing it at the U.S. Capitol. Ronald Reagan replaced the anti-Confederacy Thomas Starr King, and it seems likely that Junipero Serra will be the next to go.

Benjamin Victor, the Idaho sculptor who was chosen to create the statue of Bates, said he began his work by extensively studying her, including reading her 1962 autobiography and visiting her Little Rock home and Central High. He said he hopes the statue will help U.S. Capitol visitors learn more about her as well.

“I hope it really first and foremost inspires them to study Daisy Bates’ life and legacy,” Victor said. “A big part of it is to capture that spirit of hers and inspire others to do the same and stand up for what’s right.”

The 8-foot-tall bronze statue depicts Bates, who with her husband published the Arkansas State Press newspaper, walking with a newspaper in her arm. She holds a notebook and pen in one hand and wears a NAACP pin and rose on her lapel.

Cash was born in Kingsland, a tiny town about 60 miles south of Little Rock. He died in 2003 at age 71. His achievements include 90 million records sold worldwide spanning country, rock, blues, folk and gospel. He was among the few artists inducted into both the Country Music Hall of Fame and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Black educator Mary McLeod Bethune honored in U.S. Capitol’s Statuary Hall

Civil rights leader and educator Mary McLeod Bethune has become the first Black person officially recognized in the U.S. Capitol’s Statuary Hall.

The 8-foot tall statue of Cash depicts the singer with a guitar slung across his back and a Bible in his hand. Little Rock sculptor Kevin Kresse, who was selected to create the statue, has sculpted other musical figures from Arkansas such as Al Green, Glen Campbell and Levon Helm.

Kresse views Cash as a much-needed addition to the Capitol as a counterbalance to the conflict in Congress, he said.

“He walked the walk and he lived what he believed. And that was just this quality that really appealed to me,” Kresse said. “And that interior thoughtfulness was something that I really wanted to try to bring out in this sculpture.”

The Bates and Cash statues will replace ones depicting James P. Clarke, a former governor and U.S. senator in the late 1800s and early 1900s, and Uriah Rose, a 19th century attorney. The statues had come under scrutiny, especially over racist comments Clarke made calling on the Democratic Party to preserve “white standards.”

Republican state Sen. Bart Hester, a Republican who is now the Senate president pro tem, began calling for the statues to be replaced in 2018. Clarke Tucker, Clarke’s great-great-grandson and a Democratic state senator, also called for his ancestor’s statue to come down.

“There was recognition broadly that it was time for a change,” said Hutchinson, who signed the 2019 law for the Bates and Cash statues to go up.

Choosing their replacements was the hard part, with lawmakers offering competing ideas ranging from Walmart founder Sam Walton to a Navy SEAL from the state who was killed in Afghanistan. After some wrangling, lawmakers eventually approved Bates and Cash.

State Sen. David Wallace, who sponsored the legislation to replace the previous sculptures, said he hoped the new statues would tell people more about the types of figures Arkansas has produced over the years.

“We wanted to do the common person that represented Arkansas,” Wallace said. “And I think that with Daisy Bates and with Johnny Cash, we covered the spectrum in Arkansas. Just, they represent the common folks of Arkansas.”
