Is good BUT often not updated…..

Today there was a major crash on the Hume Highway, four people died, northbound traffic will be totally blocked for hours but no mention of any accident in the app…only shows road works. To be of any value it needs to reflect the reality of what’s happening.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for your valuable feedback. We acknowledge the importance of real-time updates and apologize for any oversight. We are actively addressing this issue to ensure our app reflects live events accurately. We would be grateful if you could provide us with more details by emailing [email protected]

Pretty useless

Once I deleted this up from my phone because of the bugs and the unreliable information, but after a year I thought I’ll give it another chance. I am using it on the latest Iphone and it is still as bad as it was... I can get used to the hard to navigate pages and the unexpected jumps when viewing maps, I can also manage the very frequent crashes, but the traffic information is really unreliable.. some things get updated and some don’t.. not very useful when planning a few hundred kms trip. I am back using google maps.
Hi kentuckyroad Thank you for writing in, would you mind please contacting us on [email protected] to discuss further the issues you have raised. Thank you Live Traffic NSW

Notifications every 5 minutes

I downloaded the app this morning and set the route I’m planning to take to regional NSW next week, said Yes to notifications (which I very rarely do, but figured it’s important given the current flooding across much of NSW & VIC). My route has 4 flood related incidents marked so it’s good to see that - although the tiny blue dot for water isn’t easy to see & didn’t initially register as a priority, someone unfamiliar with the area might think it’s to indicate a small township. I received my first alert shortly after: “Trip Update - There are 3 new incidents on your saved trip” Since then I’ve been getting the same alert EVERY 5 MINUTES. Nothing has changed at all, I keep going in & checking then re-checking & closing alerts & then more of the exact same come in. I got another alert whilst writing this 🙄 Not ideal, because now I’m going to have to turn the alerts & notifications off.

Cybercrime detectives arrest man following alleged data breach involving more than 1 million NSW clubs customer records

Live Moment Cybercrime detectives arrest man following alleged data breach involving more than 1 million NSW clubs customer records

A Sydney man has been arrested by police over an alleged data breach of personal information of members and patrons from at least 17 licensed clubs in New South Wales and the ACT.

An unauthorised website claimed to have published online the personal details of many customers, with a threat to publish those of more than 1 million customers in the reported leak.

The website claimed to have records and personal information of senior government figures, including Premier Chris Minns, Deputy Premier Prue Car and Police Minister Yasmin Catley.

Cybercrime detectives have launched an investigation into the reported leak in conjunction with state and federal agencies under Strike Force Division.

Strike force detectives arrested a 46-year-old man after executing a search warrant at a property in Fairfield West about 4:20pm on Thursday.

The man was taken to Fairfield Police Station and is expected to be charged with blackmail.

Several police detectives stand outside a house.

Personal details released

Those with club memberships or who entered the venues as patrons could be affected by the breach, according to police.

The personal details that were possibly released include people's club membership details and drivers licence details.

Detective Chief Superintendent Grant Taylor said that licence details possibly gathered were only "specific portions" of the licence and not the "totality".

A man and woman dressed in black suits

IT provider Outabox said in a statement it had become aware of the data breach of a sign-in system used by its clients by an "unauthorised" third party.

"We are working as a priority to establish the facts around this incident, have notified the relevant authorities and are investigating in cooperation with law enforcement," Outabox said in a statement.

"We are restricted by how much information we are able to provide at this stage given it is currently under active police investigation."

It is a legal requirement in NSW for licensed clubs to collect personal information from patrons on entry, under the state's registered clubs legislation.

The information is required to be stored securely under federal privacy laws.

Government agency ID Support NSW confirmed more than 17 licensed clubs across NSW and the ACT have been implicated in the data breach, including:

  • Breakers Country Club
  • Bulahdelah Bowling Club
  • Central Coast Leagues Club
  • Mex Club Mayfield
  • City of Sydney RSL
  • East Cessnock Bowling Club
  • Fairfield RSL Club
  • Gwandalan Bowling Club
  • Halekulani Bowling Club
  • Hornsby RSL Club
  • Ingleburn RSL Club
  • Club Old Bar
  • Club Terrigal
  • The Tradies Dickson
  • Erindale Vikings

Merivale operates more than 80 venues across NSW and Victoria and was identified by ID Support NSW as among those in affected but said in a statement it was not involved.

"We are taking this matter seriously and do not believe that our customer data has been compromised in this third-party data breach, based on the information available to us at this time," a spokesperson said.

Chief Superintendent Taylor said the perpetrators created a website to carry out the data breach at least a few days beforehand.

Authorities are now working to take down the website.

"We have been working with our state and federal partners and also international partners in order to take down that website," he said.

"And at the very least to disrupt that website and to stifle the ability for information of members of the public who have utilised those clubs and their data to be released to the wider community."

'It's a little bit Optus all over again'

Gaming Minister David Harris said the government and police first became aware of the leak on Tuesday.

"We know that this is an alleged data breach of a third-party vendor, so it wasn't a hack," he said.

"There was a high-level meeting yesterday and the authorities, cybersecurity and police organisations are currently investigating that and when we get authorisation we can give more information."

One man who found his data on the website said his name, suburb and year of birth were linked to a club he had attended, but his street name and date and month of birth had been redacted.

A man in a t shirt sat in front of a computer screen

Creator of the data breach tracking website haveibeenpwned.com, Troy Hunt, said the creators of the website had not released all of the information they had collected.

"I assume the developers of this website have redacted it purely to not make things worse than they already are," he said.

"Inevitably they do have the entire thing."

He said the Outabox technology used by clubs scans patrons' faces and matches them with their licence details.

Mr Hunt said people whose data has appeared on the site may need to replace their drivers licences.

"There are physical addresses, there are date of birth, there are names. That's not good," he said.

"It's a little bit Optus all over again. Once drivers licences have been taken by unauthorised parties … it is something that almost certainty we're going to see recommended to be replaced."

ClubsNSW responds

ID Support NSW said it would assist customers impacted by the incident.

"We are concerned about the potential impact on individuals and urge clubs and hospitality venues to notify patrons whose information is affected," it said in a statement.

"ID Support NSW is also available to help those affected reduce their risk of identity theft following this incident."

ClubsNSW said in a statement that information on the alleged leak is limited.

"The clubs concerned are working towards notifying all impacted patrons," he said. "ClubsNSW is deeply concerned about the security of the data that is the subject of the breach. We have today met with all impacted clubs and are providing whatever support we can, noting again that the incident relates to a third-party provider."

ClubsNSW urged all club members to watch out for scams and avoid clicking on links in suspicious or unknown emails and texts.

Live Moment

Look back at how ABC readers and other Australians responded to this live moment.

Police press conference has ended

Detective Chief Superintendent Taylor and Detective Acting Superintendent Lister have finished speaking.

The police investigation into the reported data breach is ongoing.

Public reminded to protect personal information

Police have urged the public to protect their personal information and be vigilant of suspicious links or messages.

"Our message is to always be vigilant when it comes to security," Detective Acting Superintendent Gillian Lister.

"Never click on suspicious links via email or text. Ensure that you have a strong password for special characters and always use two factor authentication.

"Ensure that if you suspect that your security has been compromised, change your password immediately and contact police."

'Persons of interest' identified

Police have already identified "persons of interest" in their investigation.

"We have persons of interest. In our inquiries, we are following up with those persons of interest," Detective Chief Superintendent Grant Taylor said.

"And we hope to think that those persons of interest will help us identify who the perpetrators are, that have committed this act."

Israel-Hamas war

May 8, 2024 Israel-Hamas war

By Kathleen Magramo, Sophie Tanno, Maureen Chowdhury, Tori B. Powell and Elise Hammond, CNN

Our live coverage of Israel's war in Gaza has moved here .

Clashes break out between police and families of Gaza hostages in Tel Aviv

From CNN's Hande Atay Alam

People gather for a demonstration demanding the immediate return of prisoners held by Hamas, in front of the Ministry of Defence building in Tel Aviv, Israel on May 7.

Clashes between Israeli police and the family members of hostages held in Gaza broke out Wednesday night in Tel Aviv.

Police say two people were arrested after protestors pushed against barriers and confronted officers. Two police officers were slightly injured in the scuffle, the police statement said.

The police statement said officers continue to be present at the protest sites to maintain security and public order.

Natalie Zangauker, the sister of Israeli hostage Matan Zangauker, was among those injured during clashes.

In a social media video, Natalie Zangauker's mother sits next to her in the hospital room. Earlier in the protest, social media videos showed Zangauker on top of a car during the protests, holding pictures of her missing brother.

"This will not stop her tomorrow from going out to a public area while in pain to shout again, bring back Matan. Bring back the hostages. Stop the war with Hamas. This will not stop Natalie. This will not stop me. This will not stop us," Natalie's mom said in the video from the hospital room.

Norwegian Refugee Council said none of its trucks crossed Kerem Shalom Wednesday, organization says

From CNN's Natalie Barr and Audry Jeong

Jan Egeland, secretary-general of the independent Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), during an interview in Kabul, Afghanistan, on January 9, 2023.

The Norwegian Refugee Council said none of its aid trucks managed to cross into the Gaza Strip via the Kerem Shalom crossing on Wednesday.

Earlier Wednesday, Israel claimed the aid crossing had been reopened . However, Jan Egeland, the head of the Norwegian Refugee Council, told CNN's Isa Soares that although he heard the Kerem Shalom border crossing would open, "we have no trucks going over. I have heard of no humanitarian trucks over Kerem Shalom."

Egeland said the Norwegian Refugee Council had a few aid trucks enter Gaza through the Rafah crossing late last week, but since then, the NRC has run out of fuel and has no cash to rent a car or trucks to deliver the additional aid.

Asked for a reaction on the United States' decision to pause a shipment of bombs to Israel amid concerns over their potential use in a Rafah incursion, Egeland said:

“Finally, finally, how on earth could the United States, our closest ally in NATO, provide these indiscriminate, 2,000-pound bombs to an indiscriminate military campaign in a place filled with women and children that have no escape.”

On Wednesday, the Israel Defense Forces said numerous launches were identified from the area of Rafah toward the Kerem Shalom Crossing but did not go into Israeli territory and fell in the Gaza Strip.

Biden says he will stop sending bombs and artillery shells to Israel if it launches major invasion of Rafah

From CNN's Kevin Liptak

US President Joe Biden speaks with CNN's Erin Burnett on Wednesday, May 8.

US President Joe Biden said for the first time Wednesday he would  halt some shipments of American weapons to Israel  – which he acknowledged have been used to kill civilians in Gaza – if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu orders a major invasion of the city of Rafah.

“Civilians have been killed in Gaza as a consequence of those bombs and other ways in which they go after population centers,” Biden told CNN’s Erin Burnett in an exclusive interview, referring to 2,000-pound bombs that Biden paused shipments of last week. “I made it clear that if they go into Rafah – they haven’t gone in Rafah yet – if they go into Rafah, I’m not supplying the weapons that have been used historically to deal with Rafah, to deal with the cities – that deal with that problem,” Biden said.

The president’s announcement that he was prepared to condition American weaponry on Israel’s actions amounts to a turning point in the 7-month conflict between Israel and Hamas. And his acknowledgement that American bombs  had been used to kill civilians  in Gaza was a stark recognition of the United States’ role in the war.

The president has come under extraordinary pressure, including from members of his own party, to limit shipments of arms amid a humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The US has already paused a shipment of “high-payload munitions” due to Israel’s possible operations in Rafah without a plan for the civilians there, according to the Pentagon, though  it said a final decision  on that shipment hadn’t been made. The administration has said it is reviewing the potential sale or transfer of other munitions.

IDF denies burying Palestinians in third mass grave uncovered inside Al-Shifa hospital complex

From CNN's AnneClaire Stapleton

The Israel Defense Forces denied any involvement in the burials at the third mass grave found inside the Al-Shifa hospital complex.

"The claim that the IDF buried Palestinian bodies is baseless and unfounded. Hamas has turned Shifa Hospital into a terrorist stronghold by operating from within the complex — a choice they make repeatedly, using civilians and civilian infrastructure as human shields and cover-ups for Hamas’ violence," the IDF said in a statement to CNN Wednesday.

Remember: Palestinian medical teams discovered a third mass grave inside the Al-Shifa Hospital medical complex , retrieving an additional 49 bodies, the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza said in a statement.

According to the health ministry, it is the seventh mass grave found inside hospitals across Gaza. Aside from the three uncovered at Al-Shifa, one mass grave at Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia and three at the Nasser medical complex in Khan Younis were discovered.

Gazan authorities said they have recovered 520 bodies in total from the graves.

3 mortar rounds land near intended offload site for Gaza pier, US defense official says

From CNN's Oren Liebermann

Three mortar rounds landed near the intended offload site for the Gaza pier used for humanitarian aid distribution on Wednesday, according to a US defense official.

The mortars did not cause any injuries or result in damage, the official said, but stressed that the information was based on initial reports of the attack. It is also not clear what the mortar launches were targeting at this point.

The official said the mortars did not damage the two sections of the humanitarian pier, which are not connected to the Gaza coastline at this time. The causeway that will ultimately connect to the coast remains offshore, while the floating pier is currently at the Israeli port of Ashdod following its completion.

Some background: The attack is similar to another round of mortars that impacted the same area two weeks ago. On April 24, a number of mortars landed near the offload site for the humanitarian aid that will eventually come off the pier. A US military official said at the time that they do not assess the attack had anything to do with the mission of the pier.

UN sounds alarm as no trucks with humanitarian aid have been able to enter Gaza. Here's the latest

From CNN staff

Aid trucks loaded with supplies for Gaza wait in Al-Arish City, Egypt, after the border closed on May 8.

The United Nations on Wednesday voiced alarm Wednesday over the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.

In an operational update, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said that no goods for humanitarian operations entered the enclave through key crossings, exacerbating challenges amid active hostilities.

Dujarric emphasized the critical need for incoming supplies, including fuel, to sustain humanitarian efforts. The situation is urgent, with key medical facilities at risk of becoming inaccessible or inoperable, he said.

Meanwhile, The ongoing operation of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in Rafah has expanded from airstrikes to ground operations, which includes bulldozing, new satellite imagery obtained by CNN from Planet Labs shows.

Here are the latest developments:

  • Israeli strikes: An Israeli airstrike in Gaza City killed at least eight people , including children, according to witnesses and Dr. Amjad Ailawa of the Al-Ahli Baptist hospital. No warning was given by the Israeli military before it struck a four-story building in the Al-Daraj neighborhood, eyewitnesses told CNN.
  • US pauses shipment: US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin confirmed that the United States is pausing a shipment of “high-payload munitions” to Israel due to possible ground operations in Rafah without a plan for civilians in the southern Gaza city.
  • US report on potential war crimes: T he US State Department will not be delivering its report on whether Israel has violated international humanitarian law in Gaza to Congress on Wednesday. "We expect to deliver it in the very near future, in the coming days," State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said.
  • Mass graves: Palestinian medical teams discovered a third mass grave inside the Al-Shifa Hospital medical complex , retrieving an additional 49 bodies, the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza said in a statement.
  • 50,000 people evacuate: " Roughly 50,000 people" have left Rafah in the last 48 hours as a result of Israel’s evacuation order, a senior staffer at the UN’s agency for Palestinian refugees  told CNN . "We've seen them go to Khan Younis, some have gone to the expanded humanitarian area of Al-Mawasi, others have gone to Deir al-Balah,” the staffer said.
  • Hospital relocates:  The largest hospital in eastern Rafah , Abu Yousef Al Najjar, has relocated to a makeshift facility in the central part of the city as a large-scale Israeli offensive looms.
  • Kerem Shalom:  The Kerem Shalom border crossing between southern Gaza and Israel  has reopened  for humanitarian aid, Israeli authorities said on Wednesday. However, the Gaza crossing authority  said no aid trucks entered the enclave.

Republican congressional leaders blast Biden's decision to pause transfer of weapons to Israel

From Lauren Fox and Ted Barrett

House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell have issued a toughly worded joint letter to President Joe Biden blasting the administration for pausing the transfer of bombs to Israel.

“These recent press reports and pauses in critical weapons shipments call into question your pledge that your commitment to Israel’s security will remain Ironclad,” they wrote in a letter. “Despite regular engagement on security assistance in Israel, and repeated assurances from the most senior officials over the past several months, it was only after public press reports and subsequent engagement by our offices that we learned from your staff that a review of specific weapons shipment was underway.”

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said the US paused a shipment of bombs to Israel. He said the US is concerned that they could potentially be used in a ground operation in Rafah without a plan for civilians there.

In the letter Johnson and McConnell ask the administration to respond by the end of the week as to whether or not there will be any other delays in weapons transfers based on the ongoing review.

The State Department said that it would not be delivering its report on whether Israel has violated international humanitarian law during its war in Gaza to Congress on Wednesday, as expected. A spokesperson said the department is still finishing the report.

Israeli airstrikes kill 4 people in western Rafah neighborhood, hospital says

From CNN’s Abeer Salman

Four people were killed and around two dozen others were injured in Israeli airstrikes in the Tal Al Sultan neighborhood in western Rafah on Wednesday, according to the Al Kuwaiti hospital.

The four deceased bodies and more than 25 injured people have arrived at the hospital, which is located in central Rafah.

Al Kuwaiti hospital also said most of those injured are children, and two people are in critical condition.

CNN reached out to the Israeli military for comment on this incident.

CNN footage shows casualties arriving at the Al Kuwaiti hospital following strikes in western Rafah. The footage shows what appears to be a corpse and two body bags. It also shows panicked children arriving in ambulances without their parents and one barely responsive child with a heavily bandaged arm being carried on a stretcher.

The hospital said earlier it had begun expanding into makeshift facilities to try and accommodate more patients.

After the closure and relocation of the Abu Yousef Al Najjar hospital, Al Kuwaiti — along with the European hospital — are the only hospitals remaining in Rafah. According to the World Health Organization they are only “partially operating.”

CIA director may travel to Israel for more cease-fire and hostage negotiations

CIA Director William Burns may travel to Israel for more cease-fire and hostage release talks after holding discussions on Sunday in the Qatari capital, Doha, a source with knowledge of the matter told NBC News.

Burns, whose schedule remained fluid amid uncertainty over the outcome of the talks, has emerged as a key figure in the negotiations. The CIA director had previously been in Cairo, where Hamas stated that cease-fire discussions concluded Sunday following “in-depth and serious discussions.”

The militant group reiterated key demands that Israel again rejected. After earlier signs of progress, the outlook appeared to dim as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu  vowed to resist international pressure to halt the war.

Israel closed its main crossing point for  delivering badly needed humanitarian aid for Gaza  after Hamas attacked it. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant claimed Hamas wasn’t serious about a deal and warned of “a powerful operation in the very near future in Rafah and other places across all of  Gaza .”

Early Monday, the Israeli military urged civilians in eastern Rafah to evacuate. The southernmost Gaza city, on the border with Egypt, is where more than half of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents now seek shelter from Israeli attacks.

Follow live updates here.

A scene in Rafah

Israel didn’t send a delegation to the talks mediated by Egypt and Qatar. Egyptian state media reported that the Hamas delegation went for discussions in Qatar, where the group has a political office, and will return to Cairo for further negotiations on Tuesday.

A senior Arab negotiator directly involved in the talks with Israel and the United States said that the negotiations are not over and have not collapsed.

Separately, an Israeli official said that Burns' presence in the region was an indication that there are still ongoing discussions. Burns was in the Qatari capital Doha for talks on the subject yesterday.

However, another threat to talks came as Israel ordered the local offices of Qatar’s  Al Jazeera satellite news network to close , accusing it of broadcasting anti-Israel incitement. The ban did not appear to affect the channel’s operations in Gaza or the West Bank.

Netanyahu, under pressure from hard-liners in his government, continued to lower expectations for a cease-fire deal, calling the key Hamas demands “extreme” — including the withdrawal of Israel forces from Gaza and an end to the war. That would equal surrender after the Hamas attack on Oct. 7 that triggered the fighting, he said.

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh said in a statement earlier that the militant group was serious and positive about the negotiations and that stopping Israeli aggression in Gaza is the main priority.

But Israel’s government again vowed to press on with a military operation in Rafah, a key entry point for aid.

Kerem Shalom , now closed, is another. The Israeli military reported 10 projectiles were launched at the crossing in southern Israel and said its fighter jets later struck the source. Hamas said it had been targeting Israeli soldiers in the area. Israel’s Channel 12 TV channel said 10 people were wounded, three seriously. It was unclear how long the crossing would be closed.

The head of the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees, Philippe Lazzarini, called for an independent investigation and “accountability for the blatant disregard of humanitarian workers.” He also said Israel this week denied him entry to Gaza for a second time.

The closing of Kerem Shalom came shortly after the head of the U.N. World Food Program asserted there was a  “full-blown famine”  in devastated northern Gaza, one of the most prominent warnings yet about the toll of restrictions on food and other aid entering the territory. The comments were not a formal famine declaration.

In expanded remarks as the full NBC News interview was released Sunday, WFP chief Cindy McCain said famine was “moving its way south” in Gaza and that Israel’s efforts to allow in more aid were not enough. “We need more ability to be able to get more trucks in,” she said. “We have right now a mass on the outside border, about enough trucks and enough food for 1.1 million people for about three months. We need to get that in.”

A scene in Rafah

Gaza’s vast humanitarian needs put further pressure on the pursuit of a  cease-fire . The proposal that Egyptian mediators had put to Hamas sets out a three-stage process that would bring an immediate six-week cease-fire and partial release of Israeli hostages taken in the Oct. 7 attack, and it would include some sort of Israeli pullout. The initial stage would last for 40 days. Hamas would start by releasing female civilian hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.

Netanyahu claimed that Israel has shown willingness to make concessions but said it “will continue fighting until all of its objectives are achieved.” That includes the stated aim of crushing Hamas. Israel says it must target Rafah to strike remaining fighters there despite  warnings from the U.S.  and others about the danger to civilians.

An Israeli strike Sunday on the al-Attar family house in an urban refugee camp near Rafah killed four children, including a baby, and two adults, according to Abu Youssef al-Najjar Hospital.

In a fiery speech for Israel’s annual  Holocaust memorial day , Netanyahu added: “I say to the leaders of the world, no amount of pressure, no decision by any international forum will stop Israel from defending itself. If Israel is forced to stand alone, Israel will stand alone.”

The Hamas cross-border attack on Oct. 7 killed 1,200 people, and 250 others were taken hostage. Israel says militants  still hold around 100 hostages  and the remains of more than 30 others. Netanyahu is under growing pressure from some hostages’ families to make a deal to end the war and get hostages freed.

Israeli’s air and ground offensive has killed over 34,500 people, according to Palestinian health officials, who don’t differentiate between civilians and combatants but say women and children make up a majority of those killed.

Israel blames Hamas for civilian deaths, accusing it of embedding in residential and public areas. The Israeli military says it has killed 13,000 militants, without providing evidence to back up the claim.
