The Bronx Community Foundation is proud to partner with The Bronx Tourism Council, supporting our collective vision to see The Bronx become a global destination and showcase the vibrancy of our great borough and spirit of Bronxites.
Every year, over 6,000 riders participate in The Tour de Bronx, riding through the best of our borough, highlighting Bronx greenways, residential neighborhoods, historical districts, waterfronts, and many tourist attractions.
Tour de Bronx is FREE to everyone. And this year our goal is to engage every Bronxite, and people far and wide, to help raise money for Bronx-based nonprofits and health-focused initiatives.
Through a suggested donation of $20.23, help us make an impact in the lives of all Bronxites so that together we can celebrate and enhance all that we love about our borough—its people, its places, and its heart.

The 28th annual Tour De Bronx is back Oct. 23, capped at 1K participants
On Sunday, Oct. 23, the 28th annual Tour De Bronx is back, giving participants the free opportunity to cycle through the borough’s historic districts, greenways and waterfronts with hundreds of companions.
The event, which was founded in 1994 by the Bronx Borough President’s office and the Bronx Tourism Council, has drawn thousands of riders in past years but will be capped at 1,000 participants this year . Borough President Vanessa Gibson said the limit on riders is part of the process of returning to normalcy as the city emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic. Still, the group ride is a peek at pre-pandemic days, with the past two years offering scaled-down, virtual self-guided rides where cyclists could team up with others to conquer one of three routes on their own.
This year’s 25-mile ride will start off at 10 a.m. at East 161st Street and Grand Concourse and finish at the New York Botanical Garden, where participants will be greeted by a free festival and concert. There will also be self-guided virtual 10- and 40-mile tours for those who wish to under- or over-achieve.
According to Gibson, the tour welcomes both skilled and unskilled cyclists — she identified herself as the latter and said she will be participating. The event also promotes alternative modes of transportation and healthy living, she said, pointing to health disparities in the Bronx.
“This is all about health and wellness,” she said at a press conference at the Castle Hill YMCA on Thursday announcing this year’s tour. “And we know that as we talk about food equity and food access and food justice, as we talk about quality health care and stable housing, we also have to talk about alternative modes of transportation. They all work hand in hand together when you talk about building healthy neighborhoods, stabilizing our families and really creating the access and opportunity that we truly know is so important.”
Assemblymember Kenny Burgos, a Soundview Progressive, encouraged people to sign up and explore the beauty of the Bronx. A cyclist himself, he pointed out that the popular annual TD Five Boro Bike Tour through NYC barely touches the Bronx, so Tour De Bronx gives riders a better opportunity to see the northernmost borough.
Marcos Crespo, the senior vice president of community affairs at Montefiore (one of the Tour De Bronx sponsors), emphasized that the group ride is part of an effort to improve health outcomes in the Bronx. The Bronx is notorious for ranking last out of the 62 New York counties in the County Health Rankings.
Register for the ride on the event’s Eventbrite page, which can be accessed through the Bronx Tourism Council website .

BP, Bronx Tourism Council & Transportation Alternatives Announce Kick-off of Tour de Bronx
Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson announced the kick-off of the 29th Annual Tour de Bronx on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Lou Gehrig Plaza in the Concourse section of The Bronx. In partnership with The Bronx Tourism Council, Transportation Alternatives, Pepsi Cola Bottling Company of New York, Inc., Montefiore Medical Center, J.P. Morgan Chase & Co., and The Bronx Community Foundation, the formal launch served to highlight the annual bike race which will take place on Sunday, Oct. 22.
Riders will be setting off at 11 a.m. outside Bronx Borough Hall, located at 851 Grand Concourse, off 161st Street, with on-site check-in beginning at 9 a.m. Along with the launch of this year’s tour, which comprises a 40-mile route and an alternative 25-mile route, the borough president also announced a new family-friendly 10-mile route, and to mark the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop, a special route taking in 1520 Sedgwick Avenue, the birthplace of Hip Hip.
“From the Concourse to Castle Hill, the Bronx River, and beyond, cyclists will get an opportunity to safely explore our greenways and everything that makes our borough beautiful,” said Gibson. “With an emphasis on encouraging alternative modes of transportation and fitness, Tour de Bronx has each year been successful in attracting both new and skilled cyclists to explore our parks, cultural institutions, greenways, and everything else that makes our borough a beautiful place to live, work, and visit.”
She added, “I want to thank the Bronx Tourism Council and all of our sponsors for their support of this year`s Tour de Bronx and we look forward to seeing everyone on October 22nd.”
Marcos Crespo, senior vice president of community affairs at Montefiore Medical Center, said for close to two decades, the hospital has proudly been the main sponsor of the event. “As an institution committed to health and wellness beyond the walls of our hospitals and healthcare facilities, we are grateful for the opportunity to promote this annual event and engage in riding our bikes throughout the 61 neighborhoods that make up this beautiful borough,” he said.
Crespo thanked Gibson for putting on what he described as a wonderful event. “[We] look forward to celebrating with all participants at the end of the ride at the New York Botanical Garden,” he added.
Tour de Bronx has been a signature event for the borough for over 20 years, attracting both avid and novice riders, ans regarded as the largest free cycling event in the State of New York. Last year, over 1,000 riders participated and this year it is anticipated to be even bigger with over 3,000 cyclists registered.
Registration opened in September and will close on Saturday, Oct. 21, before 11 p.m. For more information, or to register, go to ilovethebronx.com .

Amazing. Per usual and as always. Matt spent the last 20 minutes in the crowd raising hell and getting the crowd hyped. My only complaint is that the Granada's sound system can't support how loud they play.

The Bronx were awesome and full of energy as always! Matt continued his tradition of coming into the crowd and getting rowdy with us in the pit. His energy and passion for music is different from any frontman I’ve seen in my 20 plus years of going to shows. Thanks to The Bronx for making rock n’ roll fun!
What a band and what a front man! Awesome performance with a tonne of energy. I reckon the vocals needed turning up a bit though. Sound was a lot better when they were in the smaller room upstairs at the 02. Cant wait to see them again.

Entry: $500 per entered vehicle, regardless of number of team members. Stuff as many people as you can legally fit in your ride. The entry fee includes the Route Book (“Weird-Ass Guided Tour To Nowhere”), scoring along the way, commemorative crap, and anything else we come up with by then.
Late Fees and Onsite Registration: A $200 fee will be assessed if you don’t pay prior to the end of online registration five days before the event start. Late entrants may pay the $700 total onsite WITH CASH ONLY.
1.1: DON’T BE A DOUCHE That’s what expensive rallies are for. 1.2: OBEY THE LAW This isn’t a race. Obey all traffic and other laws. 1.3: REFUNDS Full refunds 60 or more days before the event. After that you get merciless heckling only–no refunds or fee transfers. 1.4: ORGANIZER AUTHORITY Lemons has complete authority to give or remove points; to change routes or schedules; and/or to kick your ass out. 1.4.a: ACCIDENTS AND/OR MOVING VIOLATIONS …are two great ways to get your ass kicked out. 1.5: ROUTES The Route Book lists daily starts, finishes, and checkpoints. It’s your job to pick which roads get you there. 1.6: YOU’RE LIABLE What you’re doing here can be dangerous. You’ve made the decision to do it anyway, and you understand and accept that you’re responsible for what happens as a result.
Eligibility
2.1: VEHICLE ELIGIBILITY Open to anything street-legal and road-insured (be ready to show proof). 2.2: PARTICIPANT ELIGIBILITY A full, valid, and current street license is required for drivers (be ready to show proof). If you can’t show a full, valid, and current street license, you’re welcome to ride but not drive (crew). Anyone under 18 must present this minor waiver signed by a legal guardian.
3.1: DO WHAT WE SAY, DAMMIT Lemons can demand any change to routes, schedules, vehicles, teams, etc. This is not a debate—either do it, or go home. 3.2: ROADWORTHINESS Teams are responsible for ensuring their vehicles are roadworthy and free from dangerous defects at all times. Lemons does not perform an inspection of rally vehicles and makes no assurances or guarantees regarding any vehicle’s condition, safety, or fitness. 3.3: EMERGENCY SUPPLIES Every vehicle should carry a decent first-aid kit, 48 hours’ supply of food and water for everyone in it, and paper maps. 3.4: OTHER SUPPLIES Bring spare parts. Bring a good toolbox. Bring a spare phone battery. Bring whatever nav aids you like. Bring warm clothes. Bring flares. Bring a cellphone or tablet for posting your checkpoints. Bring a good attitude. Bring extra coffee. A lot of teams bring CB radios. Bring your arse to the Lemons Rally tab in the Forum for more recommendations.
4.1: STARTING POINTS Extra starting points are (capriciously) awarded by (wholly unqualified) judges for vehicle awfulness, team hopelessness, general hilarity, etc. 4.2: CHECKPOINT POINTS Each day has scenic, historic, and/or weird-ass checkpoints with various point values. You probably can’t hit ‘em all, so just pick the routes that appeal. To be scored, take a pic of your car (or mascot) in front of the checkpoint and post it online as described in the Route Book. 4.2.a: CHECKPOINT POINTS FOR THE DIGITALLY ILLITERATE Look– we aren’t sending guys to man checkpoints/get eaten by bears just so you don’t have to learn Facebook. Find a 12-year-old kid with an iPhone or just read our Checkpoint Posting for Grampas guide . 4.3: AWESOMENESS POINTS Additional points at the organizers’ discretion for excellent photos/videos/web posts you share with us; for super-mensch behavior; for heroic repairs; for adventures above and beyond; and for anything else we deem atypically awesome. 4.4: RENTAL CAR CLASS (Effective 01/01/2022) A Rental Car Class will offer a separate trophy for rental cars, hired cars, car shares, whatever else you want to call them. See this addendum for full details .

Tour de France 2023: How to watch, schedule, odds and storylines you need to know
The Tour de France returns Saturday for its 110th edition, this time beginning in Spain’s Basque Country, and will end on Sunday, July 23, in Paris. As always, the race — which recently got the “Drive to Survive”-style docuseries treatment on Netflix — will feature 21 stages. There will be eight flat stages, four hilly stages, eight mountain stages with four summit finishes, just one individual time trial (down from the usual two) and two rest days.
Here’s what you need to know to follow along:
How to watch the 2023 Tour de France
Peacock, NBC and USA Network will carry the Tour in the United States (NBC Sports and the Tour recently announced a six-year extension of their exclusive U.S. rights agreement, which now runs through 2029).
Peacock will stream every stage live and have daily pre-race shows. The streamer will also have stage replays, recaps, highlights, rider interviews and more, NBC Sports said.
Phil Liggett, a.k.a. “the voice of cycling,” will be on the call for his 51st tour, joined by analyst Bob Roll. Steve Porino and former professional cyclist Christian Vande Velde will also be reporting from on site, with the latter giving real-time updates while traveling the course on a motorcycle.
For the first time, NBC Sports’ broadcasts will feature clips from team radio, like communication between team directors and riders.
FloSports will stream the event in Canada.
How long is the Tour de France route?
This year’s route runs about 3,406 kilometers (about 2,116 miles). Stage 2, the longest single stage, is 209 km (about 130 miles).
The 22.4-km (about 14-mile) time trial will be held in the Alps in Stage 16.
How much money is on the line?
A total of €2.3 million (about $2.5 million) will be given out to the teams and riders, including €500,000 (about $546,000) to the winner of the overall individual classification.
How many riders are on the Tour?
Each of the 22 teams this year has eight riders, making for 176 total.

Riders to watch
This year is expected to be a two-man battle for the general classification between two-time winner Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) and Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma), who emerged triumphant last year.
The 24-year-old Pogačar, regarded as the rider of his generation, was poised for a third straight title last year before Vingegaard, backed by a strong Jumbo-Visma squad, spoiled the campaign in the mountains. While the Slovenian Pogačar often has to fend for himself, the Danish Vingegaard, 26, has the backing of a “superteam” that includes do-it-all Belgian Wout van Aert and American Sepp Kuss to deliver him the yellow jersey.
Pogačar will undoubtedly be out for revenge, but questions are swirling about his fitness after he broke his wrist in a race earlier this year and had to miss some time. Whichever way the race goes, it’s always worth a reminder that this pair gave us an iconic moment of sportsmanship last year.
In the “last dance” category, we have British veteran Mark Cavendish (Astana Qazaqstan), French fan favorite Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ) and Slovakian sprint star Peter Sagan (TotalEnergies). All three plan to retire after the 2023 season (though Sagan said he plans to compete in mountain biking at the Paris Olympics).
Cavendish, 38, has 34 stage wins on the Tour — tied for the most ever with Eddy Merckx (who reached the mark in 1975). Cavendish is seeking one last win in his 14th Tour to retire as the record-holder after sitting out last year.
The 33-year-old Pinot won the young rider classification in 2014 and has since won three stages, most recently in 2019 (when he had to abandon the race with two stages to go after tearing a leg muscle while in fifth place).
Sagan, 33, owns a record seven green jersey wins and has won 12 stages, the last coming in 2019.
Egan Bernal (Ineos Grenadiers), the last man not named Pogačar or Vingegaard to win the Tour, will be in the peloton for the first time since 2020 after returning from a near-fatal crash in January 2022.
If you’ve followed the last few tours, you might also be wondering what’s up with Primož Roglič. The 2020 runner-up had to abandon the 2021 Tour before the ninth stage, and after starting the 2022 race as a Jumbo-Visma co-leader with Vingegaard, dropped out before the final rest day due to injuries. He did win the Giro d’Italia in May, but said he would take a break from racing to celebrate.
Beyond the general classification, you can monitor the additional races within the Tour: for the green jersey (points classification, generally considered a sprint competition) and polka dot jersey (king of the mountains).

UPDATE: Donald Trump approved a plan to repay hush money for Stormy Daniels to his lawyer Michael Cohen in a meeting at Trump Tower days before his inauguration as president, Cohen told jurors today.
As part of the package, Trump raised Cohen’s holiday bonus after Cohen complained bitterly that he’d been shorted, the lawyer testified.

Cohen couldn’t give an exact date for the meeting, but said it probably occurred on January 16 or 17, because on the 17th he texted a business partner that Trump had also agreed to let Cohen refer to himself as “personal counsel to President Trump.”
Cohen’s run as a Trump Organization employee had just come to an end with the election, and one of his last assignments as Trump’s legal bulldog was paying $130,000 out of his own pocket to adult entertainer Daniels, less than two weeks before the election, for her silence about a claimed sexual encounter with Trump a decade earlier.
Prosecutors say Trump paid $420,000 to Cohen over the course of 2017 in monthly installments of $35,000 — ostensibly for ongoing legal work — to disguise the reimbursement, up his bonus, cover his tax bill and repay him for work on another job. Of the latter, Cohen admitted on the stand that he overcharged for that work.
Prosecutors contend that the reimbursement was made using deliberately falsified paperwork in violation of New York business laws. That, in turn, also broke election laws because the hush money payment was an undeclared campaign contribution, according to prosecutors.
Cohen testified that no agreement for future work was ever drawn up in 2017, and that his new title — counsel to the president — was a way for him to sell access to the incoming commander-in-chief.
“As personal attorney to the president it opens a tremendous amount of doors to people who are trying to understand Trump,” Cohen said during questioning by Assistant Manhattan District Attorney Susan Hoffinger. To most people, “Mr. Trump was an enigma,” Cohen explained, but as his lawyer of ten years he could provide insights to business people looking for help from the new administration.
Cohen said the title he got is the one he wanted because it would allow him to earn money without having to move to Washington, D.C. He said he turned down an offer to become an assistant White House counsel tendered by Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus. Cohen denied that he ever harbored a serious ambition to become White House chief of staff, a job Priebus eventually got, but admitted he was disappointed not to be asked.
Trump’s defense lawyers have suggested that Cohen was extorting Trump, using his payment to Daniels as leverage, partly out of rage at not getting a high-profile post in the Trump administration. “I didn’t want the role,” Cohen testified, saying he doubted he was “competent” to handle it.
“I just wanted my name to be included,” Cohen said. “It was more about my ego than anything.”
Cohen suggested the real injury to his ego came shortly after the election, in December, when he opened the Christmas card envelope containing what would be his last holiday bonus check from The Trump Organization and did a “double take” when he realized it was two-thirds less than usual. Cohen said he was “beyond angry,” “truly insulted” and “personally hurt.”
He had yet to be reimbursed for the $130,000 he funneled to Daniels using a home equity loan and a fraudulent shell company he set up for the transaction. Earlier, Cohen testified that he lied on paperwork to open a bank account for a limited liability company he set up to pay off Daniels. He wrote down that the LLC was for “management consulting and HR marketing.”
“I’m not sure [the bank] would have opened it if it stated ‘to pay off an adult film star for a non-disclosure agreement,’ ” he said with a laugh.
Cohen had also helped broker a $150,000 hush money payment in 2016 from Trump’s allies at the tabloid publisher American Media to former Playboy model Karen McDougal for her silence about an alleged affair with Trump. And when The Wall Street Journal reported on the McDougal agreement four days before the election, he was part of the crisis team along with Trump adviser Hope Hicks that worked to contain the potential political damage.
Seething over the Christmas bonus, he marched into Weisselberg’s office at Trump Tower “and in some colorful language I expressed to him how pissed off and angry I truly was,” Cohen testified.
“I was, even for myself, unusually angry,” Cohen said. He said he later complained about the bonus to David Pecker, American Media CEO and Trump’s friend, and probably also to Daniels’ lawyer, Keith Davidson.
Cohen will return to the stand on Tuesday. Defense lawyers have yet to cross-examine him.
PREVIOUSLY: In the final weeks of the 2016 presidential campaign, Donald Trump ordered his lawyer Michael Cohen to keep porn star Stormy Daniels’ story of sexual encounter out of the media, using a playbook they had already established to quash an earlier claim of an affair with a Playboy playmate, Karen McDougal, Cohen testified today.
Cohen, on the stand in Trump’s hush money trial, told the jury that Trump told him, “We need to stop this from getting out.” The Daniels story emerged after another politically damaging story, the Access Hollywood tape, had surfaced in early October. According to Cohen, Trump also told him, “What I want you to do is push it out as long as you can. Just get past the election, because if I win it has no relevance … and if I lose I don’t really care.”
It was the most direct claim to date in more than three weeks of trial testimony that Trump wanted a hush-money agreement to be executed to keep Daniels from talking publicly about her claim of an extramarital sexual liaison with Trump in 2006.
Rattled by the Access Hollywood tape, which revealed that Trump had boasted of grabbing women’s genitals without consent, Trump was furious to learn that Daniels’ claim was resurfacing, Cohen testified, because Cohen had worked with Daniels’ lawyer, Keith Davidson, in 2011 to get the same story pulled from a gossip website called The Dirty by threatening to sue the publication.
“He was really angry with me,” Cohen said of his boss, recalling Trump’s words: “I thought you had this under control. I thought you took care of this.”
“This is a disaster, total disaster,” Trump fumed, according to Cohen. “Women are gonna hate me. … Guys, they think it’s cool, but this is gonna be a disaster for the campaign.”
Cohen testified that Trump was already polling poorly with women in the run-up to the November election. Trump also told Cohen, “Just take care of it,” Cohen testified.
Cohen had already helped a tabloid publisher, American Media, buy the rights to Playboy model Karen McDougal’s story for $150,000, and then buried it in a textbook “catch and kill” arrangement used by the company before. But earlier testimony from the company’s CEO, David Pecker, showed he wanted no part in paying off Daniels even though he and Trump were friends.
So Cohen worked with Davidson, who also represented McDougal, to draw up a $130,000 non-disclosure agreement for Daniels. But complications arose because of the election-timed delay strategy that Trump asked Cohen to pursue. “I was following an instruction,” Cohen testified, when he stalled on paying the $130,000 in the form of an “immediate wire transfer” demanded by Davidson.
Cohen’s testimony, which prosecutors have saved for the home stretch of their case, stopped at that point for a lunch break.
With Trump seated just feet away between his lawyers, Cohen spent the morning and early afternoon describing his ten years as Trump’s in-house counsel and “fixer” — a term he called “fair” when asked about it by Assistant Manhattan District Attorney Susan Hoffinger.
PREVIOUSLY: As Donald Trump’s attorney and so-called “fixer,” Michael Cohen told a jury today about efforts to conceal unflattering stories about his boss, including an arrangement with the National Enquirer to “catch and kill” women’s claims to have had affairs with the Celebrity Apprentice host.
On the witness stand, Cohen suggested that the claims were not a surprise. He said that Trump told him that once he announced he was a candidate in 2015, “There’s going to be a lot of women coming forward.”
Cohen soon learned about one of the woman, former Playboy model Karen McDougal, from David Pecker, the CEO of National Enquirer parent company American Media. And Cohen, on the stand, said he also found out that potentially unflattering information about candidate Trump didn’t stop with McDougal’s claim of an extramarital affair.
Pecker kept “a file drawer or a locked drawer” containing information that he and his employees at American Media had collected about Trump over many years for safekeeping, Cohen said. Cohen said he later told his boss, “There’s a series of papers there that relate to you,” and they would have to arrange to buy the rights to those documents. From testimony so far, it is not clear what was in the other papers.
PREVIOUSLY: Michael Cohen, Donald Trump’s former attorney and fixer who has since turned into one of his chief antagonists, took the stand today in the former president’s hush money trial.
Prosecutors view Cohen as a critical link in their case against the former and possibly future president: the co-conspirator who connects Trump directly to hush money for adult entertainer Stormy Daniels. Cohen made multiple appearances before the Manhattan grand jury that indicted Trump in 2023.
Major news networks all focused on Cohen’s testimony, including an ongoing scroll of text and headlines from reporters in the courthouse. TV and audio coverage is banned from the proceedings.
Cohen comes to the witness stand with baggage: prison time and disbarment after a 2018 guilty plea for tax evasion and federal campaign finance violations — the latter tied to his $130,000 payment to Daniels. Cohen also pleaded guilty to lying under oath to Congress in 2017 about a Trump real estate venture in Moscow.
A Trump attorney, Todd Blanche, said in opening statements that Cohen can’t be trusted. “He is an admitted liar,” Blanche said.
Cohen has also been busy trolling his old boss online, to the irritation of lawyers on both sides. On Friday Blanche asked the presiding judge, Juan Merchan, to make Cohen stop. Prosecutors replied that they, too, had asked Cohen to keep his opinions about the trial to himself, but weren’t having much luck.
Merchan told the Manhattan District Attorney’s team to urge their star witness to restrain himself, adding that the advice was coming straight from the bench — a gag request, but without the threat of fines and jail behind the gag order imposed on Trump for criticizing trial figures including Cohen himself.
Today, Cohen finally has everybody’s permission to speak, and he is prepared to say that he acted on orders from Trump.
Prosecutors say that Trump, as president, disguised his reimbursement of Cohen by calling it taxable income for routine legal work, in an arrangement set up by the Trump Organization’s then-chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg. The former Trump CFO is in jail for lying under oath in a New York civil case against Trump, and could be summoned to testify in the hush-money case.
The 34-count indictment lists falsified business records — checks, pay stubs, ledger entries — intended to conceal the repayment to Cohen. Prosecutors will have to convince jurors that a scheme relying on misdemeanor counts of business wrongdoing became a felony because Trump employed it to interfere with a presidential election by keeping voters in the dark about a tryst with a porn star.
Trump has denied any sexual contact with Daniels and said that his payments to Cohen were legitimate. His lawyers have argued that Trump wanted to spare himself and his family embarrassment. Any impact on an election that Trump won was secondary and within the bounds of campaigning, according to defense lawyers.
Before the proceedings, Trump made a few comments to the media in the hallway outside the courtroom. Joining him were an entourage of supporters and one vice presidential contender, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH).
