Pyramids of Giza

Bright and early this morning set off on a guided tour to see Ancient Egypt's most famous site: the iconic Pyramids of Giza and Sphinx. Sole survivors from the ancient Greek-listed Seven Wonders of the World, the pyramids are the planet’s oldest tourist attraction! Known as Cheops, Chephren and Mycerinus, the pyramids were already more than 2,000 years old. Next we explore the sand-strewn tombs and temples of the ancient necropolis of Saqqara, home to the Zhoser’s step pyramid. A visit to a government supervised Papyrus Museum will also be made at some point during today. Overnight: Cairo   |  Breakfast

The Grand Egyptian Museum

Cairo - Aswan. We take a guided tour of the vast new Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza this morning. In this incredible 490,000 sq.m complex we'll discover a mind-boggling array of relics and antiquities from almost every period of ancient Egyptian history. Arguably the most famous exhibit is the spectacular funerary mask of King Tutankhamun. Made of solid gold and weighing 11kg, the mask was found covering the head of mummy, where it lay inside a series of 3 sarcophagi. Continuing our tour, we travel on to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization where the mummies of ancient Egyptian pharaohs are now on display in the Royal Mummies' Hall. Some of the mummies you will see are so well preserved, they still have thick locks of hair, visible finger nails! Then there's time to relax back at the hotel before we board the night train to Aswan this evening. Please Note: the Grand Egyptian Museum is scheduled to open in late 2024, though an official opening date has yet to be released. If travelling prior to the opening of the new facility we'll visit the Egyptian Museum instead. Overnight: Sleeper Train  |  Breakfast

Philae Temple

Aswan. After arrival into Aswan and hotel check-in we enjoy a boat trip to Agilika Island where we visit the Temples of Philae, dedicated to the goddess Isis and then we visit a perfume oil emporium back in Aswan. Spend the remainder of the evening at your own leisure; shop in the colourful souqs or simply kick back and relax. Overnight: Aswan   |  Breakfast

Optional Abu Simbel

Aswan - Nile felucca cruise. Early birds can go on an optional excursion to the majestic Temple of Abu Simbel . The gargantuan rock-cut temple at Abu Simbel was created to revere the mighty pharaonic ruler King Ramses II. Guarding the entrance to the temple, the four colossal statues of Ramses II sit majestically, staring out across the desert. In the afternoon we board a felucca for a 2-night journey downstream the River Nile, stopping at villages and islands along the way. If sailing by felucca is not your style, consider upgrading to a 5 star luxury Nile Cruise, please see the tab above for prices. For more information about Nile Cruising please click here . Overnight: Felucca Cruise   |  Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Felucca sailing & Kom Ombo

Spend a relaxing day sailing the Nile. Admire the views, go for a swim and chill out in the sun on deck. Let your troubles melt away, as the felucca plies its route. Travellers have rated this tour as 4.9 out of 5 based on 198 recent reviews

Aamer is the utmost professional and caring guide. He was a great story teller and Egyptologist. His passion for all the sites and subject was amazing. Aamer also made sure he took care of us as a group. He looked out for our well being and made sure we looked out for each other as a little family! He also made a point to explain all the customs and rules around tipping for washrooms etc. This tour was everything and more. Every day was a true adventure. You were never disappointed with the itinerary.

My only negative is about the sleeper train. All of the accommodations for the trip are 4-5 star hotels. The sleeper train does not meet with your standards at all. There must be another way to get us to Aswan without the train! The train was unhygienic and just plain grungy and dirty. As Aamer said it's is an "experience". I say it's one we could do without. The cabin cruiser was lovely. Maybe add more time to that !

This was a trip of a lifetime for me. I would highly recommend On the go Tours to everyone. ”

star rating

I believed the tour was actually good. Ahmed Esmat was nice and certainly committed to his role of the tour. My two favourite days of the experience were the day visiting the Egyptian Museum as well as the Egyptian Civilisation Museum and the day going snorkelling. I also made friends with a friendly family during the tour. ”

The tour was fabulous and what increased the value was the guide. Sherif was very knowledgeable, kind and truly cared about his group. If someone was separated from the group, he immediately doubled back to be sure all was ok. He was helpful not only at the historic sites but also when we snorkeled. He is a perfect ambassador for Egypt. I will definitely be sending people your way. Nice pace too. Busy day followed by a little less busy day. The venues were fabulous. Great job! ”

The tour I did was incredible we covered all the main sights . My tour guide Sherif was amazing he was so helpful and made the tour lots of fun . ”

This tour was truly surreal and Sherif our Egyptologist Tour Guide was AMAZING, his knowledge, timing, organization and all the extra details he gave to our group was beyond expectations. So many laughs and special memories made. Ty Sherif for teaching us all about your beautiful country and culture! ”

Sharif was outstanding. Highly personable; eminently knowledgeable; utterly professional; well organised; and most importantly, kind and considerate. We are most grateful to him. ”

Egypt was amazing! We really got lucky having Momo as our guide for the King Ramses tour, with the Alexandria/El Alamein, and Abu Simbel add ons. Momo has years of experience; he kept us on schedule, made sure we were safe, well fed, and always well informed with a wealth of history and information about ancient Egypt and modern Egyptian culture. It was a long tour, we covered Egypt from top to bottom, saw and experienced as much of Egypt as possible in 16 days. We really liked the way On The Go organized the tour, they took care of us from the moment we got off the plane, to our departure. Ttransportation was always comfortable and professional, the hotels were fantastic. The Felucca experience on the Nile River was great! Momo made sure our experience was a memorable trip of a lifetime! ”

Time of my life

I wish I could put 6 stars! The tour was seamless from the time I landed in Cairo to the time I was back at the airport. Our guide Dino had so much local knowledge, was patient and really made the trip. I found everything to be straight forward and clear - I loved every minute. Thank you guys so much. Well, other than Dino being the best guide I could ask for, I met a bunch of amazing people along the way - and one special person in particular... From seeing the pyramids to an overnight sleeper train, myriad temples and markets, floating down the Nile on a fellucca (the highlight) and swimming in the red Sea, there is not much else we could have asked to do in 13 days! I never once felt unsafe or in trouble (even in some of the dark back streets...) and would do another on the go tour in a heartbeat. Thank you to everyone we dealt with. ”

A once in a lifetime adventure unlike any other I’ve ever experienced!

I had a once in a lifetime trip to Egypt! I have never taken a group tour before and was hesitant. All my fears were gone the moment there was someone waiting for me before customs and expedited my arrival, helped with luggage, and delivered us to our hotel with ease. The tour began officially by meeting with Tonga to sort paperwork and scheduling. He was patient and efficient after the long trip to Egypt. Once we started off on our adventures they were one after the other each day better and better. So many new experiences, people, places, colors, scenery. All painting the perfect picture of the magic, beauty, and contrast of ancient and present day Egypt. I met some friends I know I will have forever and had experiences I will treasure. The highlight for me being the 2 night felucca trip. The Nile is a monolith of if it’s own and lives up to the hype. The Nile valley takes your breath away from sunrise to sunset and the moon will captivate your dreams. My trip would not have been the same without our amazing guide, Dino! Dino was so organized, helpful, PATIENT, caring, funny, and knowledgeable. He made 13 strangers with all different personalities and travel experience feel like a cohesive family unit in a short period of time with ease. He explained all the histories and mythology with clarity and answered questions and concerns with pleasure. I feel so lucky to have experienced Egypt through his eyes. ”

Wow, if you have thought about going to Egypt, or grew up loving the ancient world, please go. I never felt unsafe or unwelcome, the sites are beautiful and the people are friendly. We booked this tour for our honeymoon and was not disappointed.

Overall great experience, ticked a lot of things off our bucket list and made some new friends and definitely recommend the tour. ”

The Nile Cruise Upgrade version of this tour includes 3 nights on board a 5 star Nile Cruiser (en suite cabin) in place of the felucca. For full details, please refer to the 'Nile Cruise Upgrade Trip Notes', in the right hand column for details.

Tipping Kitty

Tipping is not a natural part of many Western cultures and many of us feel uncomfortable, or unsure, about when, or how much, to tip. However, in Egypt, tipping makes up a significant part of many people's wages so it's important that we get it right. For this reason we've developed a very simple system to take all the hassle out of tipping. With our 'tipping made easy' policy, a nominal pre-determined amount is collected from all group tour participants to cover tips en route. This then saves you the hassle of when and how much to tip bellhops, luggage handlers, local guides and other support staff through the tour. Our 'tipping made easy' doesn't include a tip to your group tour leader. Naturally, though, the amount is up to you as tipping is an entirely personal gesture.

Egypt Group Tours

Discover the spellbinding sights and rich ancient culture of Egypt on one of our group tours, all escorted by experienced Egyptian guides qualified in Egyptology to degree level.

With carefully planned itineraries that cover as much as is comfortably possible, weekly guaranteed departures and 4-5 star accommodation with swimming pools for a spot of downtime each day, we’ve got Egypt well and truly covered. And if you would like to combine Egypt with neighbouring Jordan and Israel, or even Turkey, we have a selection of holidays that offer just that too.

An exhibition more than 3000 years in the making is now in Sydney.

Emily Vernem

I am a big fan of museums (if you couldn’t already tell from the headline of this article).

Museums are my safe place where I can walk around for hours learning about the history of different parts of our world.

As a city girl I’m lucky enough to live close to The Australian Museum in Sydney so I shamelessly spend a lot of my time there.

When I found out that the Ramses & the Gold of the Pharaohs exhibition was making its way to Sydney I immediately messaged my manager and asked for an extended lunch break because I was about to be busy.

If you think I’m coming across a bit intense, firstly, you’re probably right. Secondly – let me put into context just how absolutely insane it is that we have this exhibition at our doorstep.

Only ten cities in the entire world are hosting this exhibition. Some of the artefacts displayed have also left Egypt for the first time ever! People fly interstate to be able to attend (and I would’ve been one of those people if the exhibition wasn’t hosted here).

Sydney “MAGA Hat” Sweeney

The exhibition displays over 180 Egyptian artefacts and treasures and includes a multi-sensory experience. You can choose to opt in for a guided audio tour, as well as experience the virtual reality (VR) adventure and tour of Abu Simbel and the Tomb of Queen Nefertari.

The VR experience is incredible I hear, it was SO popular and fully booked on the day I planned to go, but would recommend snagging yourself a spot in advance if you're keen.

Due to the popularity of the exhibition, I opted to visit mid-week and thank goodness I did. The best thing about museum visits outside of the weekend (if you can manage it), is that it truly feels like you're visiting at a time with other super-engaged enthusiasts. Despite the volume of people passing through, it was all very respectful with plenty of space and movement.

ramses tours egypt reviews

I’d recommend getting to the museum 15-20 minutes before your session to give you enough time to have your tickets scanned and be as close to the front of your session queue as possible. I also used this time to read up more on what to expect before you head into the exhibition, which honestly just made me more excited to get in there.

What's it about?

Okay, a brief history lesson. The exhibition revolves around Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses II, a ruler during the Nineteenth Dynasty. He ruled for nearly 67 years (1279–1213 BC), had over 100 children and passed away in his early 90s, making him the second longest ruler of Egypt in history.

ramses tours egypt reviews

He was known as   Ramses the Great and has been celebrated throughout history for being one of the most powerful pharaohs in Egypt, largely stemming from his battle victories (although his victory at the Battle of Kadesh has been debated) as well as his eye for architecture, building, transforming and restoring many capitals, temples, monuments and statues.

ramses tours egypt reviews

The exhibition also includes glimpses of what everyday life was like in Egypt 3000 years ago with other pharaohs, queens and gods. From mummified animals, to the (extremely heavy) jewellery, to workers using limestone to create tools, to my favourite: the lives of Egyptian women. Although little is known about women during this period of time, surviving legal texts revealed that, in theory, Egyptian women were equal to men under law.

What to expect

ramses tours egypt reviews

It’s recommended that the entire tour of the exhibition will take at least 45 minutes, but I suggest you give yourself the full hour and a half to take in everything, especially if you opt into the audio guided tour. (Reminder: from the popularity of the exhibition, it takes more time than usual to view everything.) This is a once in a lifetime opportunity so it’s important to mentally capture as much as possible. You’re allowed to take photos, just remember to keep the flash off.

The walkthrough of the exhibition is laid out beautifully with explainers and digital storytelling that helped deepen my understanding of every single artefact to see.

ramses tours egypt reviews

There was also an interactive element, where a button shows you how sunlight lit the back of statues in the Abu Simbel temple on two set days every year (and still does). Every little detail like this enhanced my appreciation of ancient history and left me in awe of the intelligence, strength and creativity of ancient Egyptians (seriously, I actually had to sit in silence with my thoughts for 20 minutes afterwards).

One of the final artefacts viewed is the highly anticipated sarcophagus of Ramses II made from cedar. Sydney is the second overseas city to host the coffin making it a rare and honourable viewing experience. I promise you the photos do not do it justice (but I tried my best).

ramses tours egypt reviews

One of my favourite things about this experience is that there wasn’t a single person in there who wasn’t appreciative of what they were seeing, from children to large tour groups. The exhibition was so breathtaking for all of us that you could hear a pin drop.

The collective understanding that you’re experiencing something extraordinary with strangers is such a rewarding experience that usually goes unnoticed AND it makes the exhibition all the more enjoyable and memorable after you've left.

If my crazy fan-girling explanation didn’t make it clear enough, I highly recommend carving out time to attend this exhibition. I suggest you take someone with you so you can say things like, “Did you know for ancient Egyptians the act of waking up in the morning is a form of rebirth?”

Take a friend, sibling or coworker as an early Christmas present but mainly so you can discuss everything you just experienced straight after because you will definitely want to talk about it ASAP.

Book your tickets to  Ramses & the Gold of the Pharaohs , exclusive to the Australian Museum in Sydney for a limited time only.

This is a fun place to get your Egyptian pictures and look like you're really in Egypt. All sides of the building have some sort of Egyptian decor. The right side of the building is the exact replica of Abu Simbel. The owner did a really good job of copying what it would actually look like in Egypt. From the hieroglyphs to the Egyptian gods to the pharaohs. It takes a lot of work to do that. I really hope the restaurant opens.

Nice construction, very impressive! If go there on weekdays, usually not that busy and easily find a parking. Highly recommended!

It's not Egypt, it's Chino Hills! This intriguing structure is set to be a restaurant opening in 2024. According to my girlfriend, it's a dead ringer for the real thing.

What a beautiful place to see. I had the opportunity to come here and finally see it. Its been on my list to see for a long time. What amazed me most is that this place is actually going to be a restaurant with authentic Egyptian food. I cant wait to come see it complete. I met Nader and Aymen which they were the ones constructing the "abo simbol" which is a temple in Egypt. Outstanding people, I cant wait for this to be complete to come back here and try their food

This building is located in busy restaurant plaza. It was believed to be a restaurant but unfinished and now just empty. I came here just for taken some pictures feeling like I am in Egyptian time. The status look like it wouldn't stand in times as one of the structure falling apart. It is not that big as it looks in the pictures.

ramses tours egypt reviews

The Egyptian Building feels like I am in Cario, Egypt without having to fly there, absolutely incredible! I've always wanted to go to Egypt to see the beautiful architecture, but when I found out that the Egyptian Building is in our own backyard of Los Angeles, I had to visit. The Egyptian Building is located in Chino Hills, which is really one of SoCal's hidden gems. The Egyptian Building is also close to the Indian temple, BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir and the Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep (Thai Temple). They're literally all neighbors and within the vicinity. The structure is modeled after the Abu Simbel Temple and was originally supposed to be an Egyptian restaurant called Farou Food. So now it's just a closed restaurant that was supposed to open during the pandemic, but slowly becoming a popular tourist spot to take beautiful photos! The exterior is finished, but the interior still needs to be completed. As of this writing, the building is still fenced off, but you can take pictures from the back. The statues are enormous and they did such an incredible job of bringing height to the structure. Do be careful as there is some protruding metal as I cut my leg against the facade! Overall, it really is such an incredible monument. For quick reference, the building is located in the Commons Shopping Center with other businesses like BJ's and Hobby Lobby. So plenty of parking and plenty of opportunity to feel like you travelled around the world! Spectacular!

Date of visit: September 19, 2022 Who would've thunk it that a replica of the Abu Simbel temple from Egypt would be in Chino Hills, of all places? I'm always on the lookout for places off the beaten path to check out in my travels, and the Egyptian Building (as it's known in some travel websites online) stood out due to its proximity to my girlfriend's place in Diamond Bar. This is actually meant to be an Egyptian restaurant called Farou Food - but due to COVID-related delays, this place is still unfinished indoors. Be that as it may, the exterior of the building is an exact replica of the Abu Simbel temple, down to the missing head of one of the Ramesses II statues like the original was over 3000 years ago. The other three sides feature Ramesses' wife Nefertari and his patron goddess Hathor. (Smaller statues on the base of the Ramesses figures are of his family members.) Unfortunately, besides walking around the building to get a good view of the statues, there's nothing else to see - as I mentioned, the restaurant isn't open yet, but there's other restaurants in the area to check out. Hopefully next year, when Farou Food opens, it'll live up to the grandeur of the Abu Simbel replica that will house it.

The photos are real. The statutes huge. And the aesthetics awesome. It's an abandoned(?) building that was once an almost restaurant that still sits unassumingly grand in the middle of a shopping plaza. Weird!!!! Worth the drive?!? Ummmm... maybe if you happened to be headed this way anyway. But know that it's a 5 minute detour (likely one and done) but undeniably a great photo op!
