Bekaa Valley Experience
On a day trip to the Bekaa valley, expect to be immersed in a cultural and nature experience. Be ready to enjoy a walking tour surrounded by ancient ruins, having a conversation with a Lebanese family in their traditional house, then tasting the best wines ( renowned internationally) the valley has to offer. One of the best-selling tours with Wonders of Lebanon: Baalbek UNESCO site, Zahle villagersâ family visit with coffee and Arabic sweets, mountain short hike/farm experience, and wine tasting in one of the best authentic wineries in Lebanon. Be mesmerized by the majestic Roman ruins in Baalbek. As an UNESCO heritage site, the complex hosts Bacchus temple, one of the best preserved roman temples in the world. Part of our main goals when organizing tours is to support women empowerment and sustainable tourism in Lebanon. Therefore we will introduce you to the Lebanese hospitality in rural villages, you will also get a chance to buy homemade produce from local women villagers. Your trip with Wonders of Lebanon Tours will then take you next on a short hike to the top of the mountains (Amazing panoramic views of the valley and the Anti-Liban mountain chain) or to a rural farm, to enjoy animal sightseeing such as cows, deers, ducks.. And to savor fresh dairy sandwiches straight from the farm. End your day with a pleasurable experience of wine tasting. After all, wine making in the Bekaa valley is sacred and goes back to the Phoenician era, 1500 years BC. Ask about our tours covering Anjar Unesco heritage site, west Bekaa valley seasonal picking, and short hikes in the charming wetlands of Ammiq.
North Lebanon Experience
One this special day tour, be prepared for nature glory, heritage wonders, and leisure by the sea. We start with the Cedars of God and the Kadisha sacred valley, both are UNESCO heritage sites. We proceed to the lady villagers selling local produce in a cafĂ© with amazing views over the valley and mountains. Following that, weâll take a short hike which leads us to a cave monastery in one of the earliest Christian settlements in the world- The Kadisha valley. Then a pottery workshop awaits you with the strong rural women who decided to fight to keep this tradition alive. Pottery is a craft dating back to ancient times in Lebanon. In this session you will get to know the history of pottery and its health benefits in cooking food and preserving liquids. Batroun will be our next destination for a cultural walking tour to its top historical sites. These sites include the Phoenician wall, the diaspora house and the Roman theater. While strolling in the old streets of this town, you will get a typical Mediterranean feel, mixed with a Phoenician touch and some island vibes. Enjoy a walking tour in the old souks and donât miss the famous Batrouni lemonade and chocolate brioche. Last but not least comes leisure time at the beach. As youâll have time to swim (Spring till Autumn), and savor drinks at one of the best beach bars in town. Ask about our exclusive Batroun tours which comprise seasonal water activities and biking trips by the coast, oriental dance classes and yoga classes by the sea.
South Lebanon Experience
On a day trip to south Lebanon, explore the magnificent UNESCO sites of Tyre, enjoy its local beach -one of the most beautiful beaches in the Middle East- and take a walking tour in the old city. Tyre is a living proof of the solidarity and peaceful living between Muslim and Christian communities of the Middle East. On your visit to the colorful neighborhoods of old Tyre (which used to be an island), discover the byzantine ruins underneath the cityâs local church. Have a chance to taste the best Lebanese mezza and seafood in a restaurant on the Mediterranean sea, with a view of the roman columns laying at the beach next to you. Not far from Tyre, watch the glass blowing producers using the same traditional technique for glass production as in the Phoenicianâs era. Get to support this heritage craft by taking back home beautiful glass ornaments from these producers. You can even have a glass blowing/glass painting workshop in a sustainable development project near the old city. Afterwards, you will get in the ottoman era maze streets of Sidon, a historical city boasting several layers of civilizations: Phoenician, Greek, Persian, Roman, Arab, Crusader⊠Yet it has the Ottoman layer most visible. You will feel as if you have travelled back in time when walking through the shops and houses of the locals. Remarkable Emirs of the Ottoman Empire have left marks on it and turned it into a major trading center between Europe and the Far East. Last but not least, you will explore a Turkish Hammam turned into a museum, as well as a delightful soap museum with its boutique of crafts and Arabic soaps. Finally note a visit to try the famous Sidonian sweets!

We had such a wonderful experience with Sirena! It's a hard time to be in tourism in Lebanon (or in the country, period) and try to explain the complexity of the situation, however, she managed to share her story and put it into context well, as we strolled the streets of Beirut.Highly recommend and will call on her again for future trips! Also thanks for the jewelry tip - love the earrings đ Jessica Parker
Bonjour. Lebanon Architecture Designs : chronological list
The Master Juryâs citation: âAs the last in a series of buildings, the Issam Fares Institute completes the central oval courtyard of the upper campus of American University of Beirut, located on a hill overlooking the Mediterranean. This educational building solves a dense programme within a surprisingly small footprint in a manner that is sensitive to its context. With its contemporary form and the purity of its architectural language the building differentiates itself from its neighbours, though it is not in conflict with the campus and its architecture.
Tours to Tripoli, Lebanon, are also possible:
The city also has good contemporary architecture â with significant recent buildings being the 3Beirut and Issam Fares Institute. These buildings are all possible to visit on our Israeli Architecture Tours .
Famous architects with buildings in the city include Zaha Hadid Architects, Oscar Niemeyer, Foster + Partners, KPF, Orange Architects and LAN Architecture.
Beirut Walking Tours
Beirut Architectural Tours can focus on traditional or contemporary Lebanese buildings or both. The Beirut Architecture Tour can be an introduction to the cityâs main buildings or can be tailored to your groupâs interests.
e-architect can provide advice on your itinerary ahead of Walking Tours of Beirut . We are more than happy to accommodate your needs and interests on our Beirut Architecture Tours.
We can provide information on areas and building types ahead of your architecture tour. For example a group of architects interested in innovative Beirut housing or office buildings could be provided with tailored information allowing a tour programme to be agreed prior to their visit to Lebanon.
Visitors typically start their Beirut Architecture Walking Tours in the city centre, but our guides can also collect groups from their hotel if preferred.

Emerging from the ashes of its war-torn past, Lebanon is a country of captivating contrasts, having lain at the crossroads of religious, historical and social change for over 7,000 years. Blessed with gorgeous coastlines, delicious cuisine and a collection of ancient sites that are the envy of many, today it is emerging once more as one of the most engaging and dynamic countries in the Middle East. This short, but ultimately engrossing, journey takes us from the vibrant streets of its historic capital and deep into landscapes that have been forged over the centuries by Phoenician traders, Roman legions and fierce crusades. Beginning in Beirut we have a chance to enjoy its rich cultural heritage before moving on to the ancient UNESCO ruins at Byblos, travelling via the fabulous caves at Jeita and the shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon at Harissa. The dramatic Qadisha Valley and the famous Lebanese cedars of Al Shouf are next, before we continue through the fertile Bekka Valley to the stunning Roman remains of Baalbek. Along with the exquisite Palace of Beiteddine, the ancient Phoenician cities of Tyre and Sidon then provide the backdrop to our return to Beirut.

Day 2 Beirut
Reputed to be one of the oldest cities in the world, with an unquenchable thirst for life and an ancestry that encompasses Phoenician, Crusader and Ottoman influences, Beirut has risen from the ashes of its recent troubles to become once more one of the most dynamic cities in the Levant. Discover its remodelled centre, visit its mosques and historic churches and stop along the way to sample some of the city's culinary delights, before exploring its Corniche and its famous Pigeon Rocks. This evening we will then venture out to explore some of Beirut's famous nightlife.
Day 3 Beirut - Jeita Grotto - Harissa - Byblos
A morning visit to Beirutâs National Museum presents a fascinating insight into the cultures, conflicts and traditions that have shaped this remarkable city. Departing Beirut, we then head for the vast limestone cave complex at Jeita, one of Lebanonâs most extraordinary natural wonders. Continuing on to the pilgrimage site of Our Lady of Lebanon at Harissa, we then explore the renowned church and take a cable car up to enjoy the views across the Bay of Jounieh before completing our journey on to Byblos.
Day 4 Byblos - Qadisha Valley
The spectacular UNESCO ruins of Byblos can boast a lineage that dates back some 7,000 years. Mentioned in biblical text and appearing in both Egyptian hieroglyphic and Punic inscriptions, the city provides us with an ancient souq, Phoenician ruins and easy access to the dramatic and revered landscapes of the Qadisha Valley. Here we can enjoy an afternoon walk and soak up the beautiful scenery with a simple picnic lunch along the way, before continuing on to our hotel for the evening.
Day 5 Cedars of God - Bekaa Valley - Baalbek
This morning we will take some time to explore the ancient forests of the Cedars of God, home to some of the oldest and finest examples of Lebanonâs national symbol, some of which reputedly date back over 2,000 years. From here, we will continue on to the fertile lands of the Bekaa Valley which form the north-easternmost extension of the Great Rift Valley and can lay claim to one of Lebanonâs greatest archaeological treasures. Here lie the spectacular Roman remains of Baalbek, site of the magnificent Temple of Bacchus and the Temple of Jupiter, whose remaining Corinthian columns are amongst the largest of their kind left from ancient antiquity. After our visit we can relax for the evening and enjoy the views of the ruins from our hotel.
Day 6 Baalbek - Beiteddine - Tyre
We begin today visiting the charming Chateau Marsyas winery where we can learn more about this celebrated industry and enjoy a wine tasting. Following this we will enjoy a delicious lunch at the very special Tawlet Ammiq, the restaurant belonging to Souk el Tayeb, an organisation which helps to support small-scale farmers and producers and encourage sustainable agriculture through respecting culinary traditions and the natural environment of this region. Built by Emir Bashir II and badly damaged during the civil war, today it is considered one of the countryâs greatest cultural treasures. From here we continue on to the city of Tyre, whose ancient Phoenician ruins include the UNESCO site of its magnificent Roman hippodrome. This evening we can enjoy the Mediterranean setting of this historic city with our final dinner together.

Responsible travel.
With local people, culture and eco-systems in mind, responsible travel and sustainable tourism are at the core of Wild Frontiers. We believe that a successful trip not only delivers a unique and unsurpassable journey for our travellers but also benefits the people and places we visit. When designing our tours, we actively seek out experiences that have a positive impact on the communities and precious environments we visit - from supporting social enterprises; resting our heads in rural homestays; and eating at locally owned restaurants; to helping fund conservation projects that protect wildlife and their habitats. Visit the Responsible Travel area of our website to read more, including the work of the Wild Frontiers Foundation through which we fundraise to aid community empowerment and education projects.
Supporting smale-scale farmers
On Day 6 we will enjoy a delicious lunch at the very special Tawlet Ammiq, born from Souk El Tayeb , an organisation which helps to support small-scale farmers and producers and encourage sustainable agriculture through respecting culinary traditions and the natural environment of this region. Tawlet Ammiq is situated within the village of Ammiq, where most residents work in agriculture, and is nearby the Ammiq Wetland, one of the most significant in Lebanon as it is frequented by migratory birds. It is therefore very important to support the local food industry and educate producers on environmentally friendly practices. The restaurant allows for locals to showcase their wine or crops, which are then reimagined into delicious dishes by the cooks. Furthermore, the building itself is environmentally friendly, using 80% less energy than a standard construction, and features interiors designed by local artisans and craftsmen.Â
Reducing Single Use Plastic
We recognise the environmental issues and challenges around single-use plastic in many countries we visit and are actively working with our partners on the ground to reduce plastic waste on our tours and within the hotels and restaurants we visit. You can help to reduce your personal plastic waste by taking a refillable, filtered water bottle with you on your trip. Filtered water bottles can be refilled from water sources including your hotel room and restaurant taps, drinking fountains and refill stations. Every time you refill your bottle without the use of single-use plastic, you will be helping to reduce waste and protect the environment. Filtered Water Bottles | Wild Frontiers (wildfrontierstravel.com)

Key Information
Despite its Middle Eastern location, Lebanon has a mild climate with four seasons. Spring (March - May) and autumn (October - November) are considered the best times to visit due to milder temperatures and less rain. Generally, temperatures on the coast are higher, with spring temperatures between 13-25C in Beirut and 5-20C in the Beeka Valley. Autumn temperatures range between 16-28C in Beirut and 4-22C in the Beeka Valley. However, weather can be unpredictable at any time of year, especially if going to the more mountainous regions, so please allow for both hot and cold weather during your visit.

It may sound obvious but Wild Frontiers tours are not always for everyone and it is important to us that the tour you choose is the most suitable. All our tours have a fitness rating as a guideline but you should check the day-by-day itinerary carefully. In certain instances we may ask you to complete a travel questionnaire before confirming your booking in order to ensure your suitability. Should you have any concerns about your ability to partake in any aspect of the tour then please contact the office.
KEY ASPECTS TO CONSIDER
Anyone in a reasonable state of health, with an open mind and a sense of adventure should be perfectly able to cope with this tour. Please note most of Lebanon is no longer on the UK FCDO advise against all travel, however Baalbek, which this tour visits, is still on the list, but we are aware and monitoring this situation. You may need to mention this to your insurance company prior to travelling. This tour has a couple of medium driving days, these will be no longer than approx. 4.5 hours driving time (around 200km), regular breaks will be provided.Â
THE NATURE OF ADVENTURE TRAVEL
We feel that itâs worth pointing out that while we will always strive to stick as close to the stated itinerary as possible, it may be necessary from time to time to make changes to our itineraries or services (due to weather, political and religious influences etc.) and this can happen with little or no notice. This unpredictability can be one of the most exciting aspects of adventure travel and for many of our clients often leads to unexpected highlights as the tour-leader necessarily adapts the tour to the changing conditions. However we are aware that this lack of assuredness may not suit everyone. As such, with the greatest respect, if you are someone who needs to know that everything will happen exactly as planned, we would kindly suggest that perhaps our tours are not for you. Adventure travel can be infectious and once youâve caught the bug, it is likely to never leave you, but especially if this is your first such tour we would strongly urge you to give us a call if you have any concerns whatsoever about your suitability for this trip.
TRAVELLING SOLO AND SINGLE SUPPLEMENTS
As a company approximately 70% of our clients are solo travellers, so itâs very unlikely youâll be alone!
Our prices are typically based on twin-share accommodation but single supplements are not compulsory for any Wild Frontiers tour. If you prefer not to pay a single supplement weâll pair you with someone else of the same sex for you to share with throughout the trip. On this trip, if you do opt to pay for a single supplement then please note that it will cover you for all nights of the tour.
Please note that paying a single supplement entitles you to lone occupancy of a single room. In many cases these rooms will be of the same size as a double/twin room, but in some cases they may be smaller. Â
Insurance that provides cover for emergency repatriation in case of a medical emergency is compulsory for all tours. You should be aware that due to some of the geographical areas visited and some of the activities included on certain of our trips some standard insurance policies may not always provide adequate cover. As such we strongly recommend that you purchase a policy that adequately covers your trip. Please see the Insurance section for more details.

A Guide to Lebanon, Pennsylvania
Lebanon is the quintessential Central Pennsylvania town known for Opera Fudge and the unparalleled New Yearâs Eve Bologna Drop. With our proximity to a wide variety of natural and cultural experiences, itâs no wonder that more people are choosing to spend their recreational time in Lebanon. Less than an hour’s drive from popular tourist destinations in Hershey/Harrisburg, Lancaster, and Reading, Lebanon can be a respite, perfect for a weekend getaway or solo travel excursion.
The Outdoors
While there are certainly more adventurous spots in the county such as Swatara State Park and Governor Dick Hill , Lebanon offers visitors the opportunity to go at their own pace. With walking and biking to suit all skill levels, the Lebanon Valley Rails-to-Trails Trailhead on South 8th Street has ample parking and is a great place to start your journey. Whether youâre simply throwing on a pair of tennis shoes to clear your head, or sporting your favorite cycle kit and tracking your ride with the Strava app, youâll feel right at home on the LVRT.
For fishing and nature walks, Stoeverâs Dam Park is a local treasure. The best place to start your walk around our 23-acre lake is near the parking area on Theatre Drive with a nearby pavilion and plenty of benches to take in the waterfront view. Worth mentioning is South Hills Park with its Disc Golf course and winding walking/running path, as well as Basketball, Tennis, and Beach Volleyball Courts.
Art lovers should know three things about Lebanon, Pennsylvania:
1. Lebanon Picture Frame & Fine Art Gallery . Whether you need something custom framed or youâre browsing for your next showpiece, this gallery needs to be on your itinerary.
2. Our local theater groups and performers are more talented and passionate about what they do than they get credit for. Watch our Events Calendar for opportunities to enjoy shows at the Lebanon Community Theatre and performances at the bandshell in Colemanâs Memorial Park. And check out the Lebanon Arts Council for First Friday Events throughout the year.
3. Lebanon has numerous fun and vibrant murals tucked in alley ways and side streets throughout the city. Itâs a fun, Instagram-worthy treasure hunt.
Food & Drink
Good food is a love language for any traveler and Lebanon will not disappoint, however our variety might surprise you. Treat yourself to popular Puerto Rican pastries at Ceballoâs (quesitos while theyâre still warm are a must), or a made-from-scratch stuffed baked oatmeal at The Timeless Cafe .
Enjoy a lively atmosphere and one of the best hamburgers around at Lebanonâs singular operating brew pub, Snitz Creek Brewery . (Although, stay tuned! Another brewery is slated to open Summer 2021.) Or, check out whatâs on tap at our popular sports bar, Downtown Lounge as well as their appetizing specials each week.
Every visit to Lebanon should include at least one dinner from Trattoria Fratelli (affectionately known as Trat Frat). Popular for their mouth watering Italian fare and wood-oven pizzas, and specialty cocktails. Make sure to save room for dessert.
Local treats can be found throughout Lebanon. Wertz Candies is a third-generation Downtown Lebanon business which boasts specialty chocolates including hand dipped Opera Fudge. Shueyâs Pretzels is a time-honored maker of pretzels, both soft and hard. But get there early. The line has been known to extend out the door and down the sidewalk. When youâre looking for the best Spanakopita and Dolmadakia (stuffed grape leaves) around, make sure to stop at The Aegean Table .
History & Culture
Immerse yourself in the history of Lebanon, Pennsylvania with a visit to the Lebanon County Historical Society . Call ahead for a guided tour covering three floors full of exhibits, archives, and a gift shop.
Walk through Union Canal Tunnel Hill Park and see the oldest existing transportation tunnel in the United States. Narrated canal tours are available seasonally (weather permitting), check their website for details.
Our Downtown Lebanon Architectural Walking Tour introduces you to Downtown Lebanonâs most notable buildings. One of which is said to be haunted!
Uniquely Lebanon
While youâre here, take some time out for some self-care at Cooper Spa . They have a warm and welcoming space with indulgent, and professional services.
Golfers will love Lebanonâs course options but before you schedule your tee time, you may want to schedule some time with Sean Behney of Your Swing . He offers golf club tailoring and repair including fittings, club adjustments, re-gripping and more.
Farmers Markets may not be exclusive to Lebanon, but weâre pretty proud of them. And if you havenât had a cow-to-cone experience, make sure to visit Patches Family Creamery for some of the best ice cream youâll ever have.
With a resurgence in the popularity of thrift-shopping, itâs worth noting that Lebanon is home to four great options. The Salvation Army, The Goodwill, and two additional shops supporting local non-profits; The Humane Society Thrift Shop, and Jubilee Ministries which boasts 2 full floors of clothing, furniture, and housewares.
Camping & Lodging
The greater Lebanon area offers unique B&B, Camping, and Airbnb options, as well as newer hotels including Hampton Inn Lebanon , and Holiday Inn Express & Suites Lebanon .
Camping at Stoeverâs Dam Park is described as âruggedâ with optional electrical hookup. Camping permits can be obtained from the cityâs Department of Administration during regular business hours.
Moving to Lebanon
If youâre considering a move to Lebanon, Pennsylvania, you can look forward to a slower paced, small town atmosphere with all the conveniences of a modern urban lifestyle. We boast a diverse population that genuinely prioritizes family and care for others above politics.
Lebanon is home to two school districts, a wealth of medical resources, and plenty of job opportunities. We recommend reaching out to one of our many area Real Estate professionals for additional information.
