What is solo female travel?

The term solo female travel generally refers to traveling alone, on a self-guided itinerary. But traveling solo doesn’t have to mean traveling alone, or indeed, under your own steam. Choosing small group travel offers you plenty of time and space to do your own thing, as well as the opportunity to meet like-minded fellow travelers. Plus – the peace of mind knowing that everything is taken care of by destination experts.

How to find female solo travel partners?

Our small group Women-Only Tours are the perfect way to find like-minded solo travel partners. Choose from 11 enriching and inspiring itineraries, where the experiences, destinations, ‘Business Class style’ transport and hand-picked 4- and 5-star hotels are all included. Where is the best place to travel solo female?

Where you choose to go really depends on what you want from your vacation. Do you want to try somewhere new, step out of your comfort zone or maybe rediscover a place you’ve been before in a whole new light? With our Women-Only tours, we offer a wide variety of options, including Europe, America, India and Morocco, so there's something for everyone.

What size are the groups on Women-Only tours?

All Women-Only tours are small groups. The maximum group size is 24 but the average group size is 20.

How can a senior woman travel alone?

The key is to do what feels comfortable. There are many options based on individual preferences. We’ve found that senior female travelers enjoy tours for the camaraderie and added sense of security, plus a premium level of hotel, dining and comfort, and our Women-Only Tours are curated with all this in mind.

What is the safest country for solo females?

Primarily, the countries that women feel most secure in tend to be the ones that they are most familiar with. North America and Europe are great starting points. Both destinations have mature tourism industries that provide plenty of support to visitors. For destinations less familiar or more adventurous (hiking Machu Picchu, for example), a tour can help women feel more secure and confident.

Which country is the safest for solo female travelers in Europe?

Europe encompasses many different countries with different experiences. Overall, as a collection of mostly wealthy Western democracies, crime is low and travelers can feel safe. Scotland and Ireland are especially warm and welcoming, as are Italy and Spain. It is always advisable to check government advisories for travel and to travel smart, wherever your destination.

Will there be an all-women on-the-road team?

Our Women-Only tours will always be led by a female Travel Director and Local Experts. Your driver will also be a woman, where possible.

How many single occupancy rooms are available?

Due to the small size of our Women-Only tour groups, there will be plenty of single-occupancy rooms available. The only exception is our Splendours of Egypt Women-Only tour, where cabins are limited on the Nile cruise.

Enjoy time to wander and/or an optional hike in the Samaria Gorge. Next to the village of Archanes to explore the fascinating  archaeological site of Knossos, once a center of goddess worship of the Minoans. Our accommodations are a converted 17th century palazzo in the charming Venetian old port.  Enjoy a fun hands-on Greek cooking class at an Olive Estate in the mountains . The five National Parks were jaw-droppingly beautiful, each in its own way, and the drive through Grand Staircase Escalante was amazing. Our small group of mighty women made for excellent company. The accommodations and dining choices were terrific. Our driver was safe and tireless, narrating the sites and sharing knowledge of the area. Each guest was made to feel welcome and important. I look forward to joining you on another tour soon, and I hope to bring my sisters along.

My spirit expands every year that I travel with you. You work tremendously hard to make these trips possible. Not many people can say they have found, and are good at, their life’s calling.

LIV’s Talor Gooch receives special invitation to PGA Championship

For the first time since the onset of the PGA Tour-LIV Golf divide, a LIV golfer has been awarded a position in a major championship due primarily to his performance on the 54-hole team-format tour.

Talor Gooch, who joined the Saudi-backed Tour in May 2022, announced via X (formerly Twitter) that the PGA of America has extended a special invitation to compete in next week’s PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club. The PGA of America also extended an invitation to LIV’s David Puig, the 22-year-old Arizona State product who recently won the Malaysian Open and qualified for the Open Championship.

“Looking forward to Valhalla next week!” Gooch wrote on X. “Thank you for the invitation PGA. See ya’ll there.”

The PGA of America (the governing body of the PGA Championship) traditionally invites the Official World Golf Ranking’s top 100 players to compete at the PGA. Gooch is currently ranked No. 644, while Puig is No. 106. LIV Golf tournaments are not recognized in the ranking system, and Gooch only teed it up in only six OWGR-official events since joining LIV. However, after leaving the PGA Tour , Gooch won three times on LIV and finished as the league’s 2023 individual champion. His sole PGA Tour victory came at the 2021 RSM Classic, six months before joining the upstart league.

LIV’s Joaquin Niemann notably received a special invitation to the Masters last month, but the Chilean intentionally traveled around the world to play in tournaments outside of LIV Golf and earn his place in the majors. Niemann won the Australian Open in December and placed in the top five in three DP World Tour events. Gooch, however, has not made the same effort. He played in the Hong Kong Open in November and the Saudi International last winter, but other than those two starts, the 32-year-old has not played outside of LIV. Gooch’s invitation to the PGA Championship indicates that the tournament’s organizers recognize his performance on the Saudi-backed tour.

Gooch has been especially outspoken about his exclusion from major championships. He was eligible for the Masters, the PGA Championship and the Open Championship last season due to his PGA Tour performance before joining LIV. But the USGA changed its eligibility rules and Gooch could not tee it up at Los Angeles Country Club in 2023 for the U.S. Open.

In a news conference last week in Singapore, Gooch announced that he would not attempt to qualify for the 2024 U.S. Open, despite 35 LIV players trying their hand at final qualifying in the coming weeks.

“I’m not,” Gooch said when asked if he would be qualifying. He did not offer further explanation.

Gooch also garnered attention when he said that if Rory McIlroy were to have completed the career grand slam at the Masters, the accolade would have needed an “asterisk” due to the absence of LIV players from the field. Yet 13 LIV golfers teed it up at Augusta this year.

The full PGA Championship field list has not been released. Brooks Koepka, the defending champion, is a LIV member and hoisted the individual trophy at LIV Singapore last week.

Over the past week, students at dozens of universities held demonstrations, set up encampments and, at times, seized academic buildings. In response, administrators at many of those colleges decided to crack down and called in the local police to detain and arrest demonstrators.

As of Thursday, the police had arrested 2,000 people across more than 40 campuses, a situation so startling that President Biden could no longer ignore it.

Southern cal wins 2024 nc beach volleyball national championship.

(1) Southern California walked away with its fourth consecutive national championship after downing (2) UCLA, 3-0. The Trojans finished the 2024 season with a 37-5 overall record and have the most national championship wins in NC beach volleyball history . 

The 2024 NC beach volleyball championship kicked off on April 28 with the reveal of selections  leading up to the national championship on Sunday, May 5.

G. Love’s Debut Was a Quintessential Philly Album. 30 Years Later He’s Still Stirring the Special Sauce

G. Love & Special Sauce’s self-titled debut album was an out-of-left-field record upon its release in May 1994. An innovative concoction of rock, hip-hop, blues, and jazz music, its lead single “Cold Beverages” quickly overtook radio stations coast-to-coast that summer, but the band was none the wiser of its unusual, unexpected success. “It was getting played on MTV, played on Beavis and Butt-Head ,” G. Love tells Rolling Stone . “It was a hit record, but we didn’t know it was blowing up ‘cause we were doing 250 shows a year in a van — we were just moving with our head down.”

Sitting at a table in the middle of an empty dancefloor before a recent sold-out gig at the Visulite Theatre in Charlotte, North Carolina, G. Love — real name: Garrett Dutton — ponders what that first album means to him 30 years on. The group is in the midst of a nationwide tour celebrating the anniversary. “To look back now, 30 years later, is to see that the record was the catalyst,” Dutton says. “It was a launching point for my whole career, for our whole careers.”

The enduring allure and sonic grandeur of G. Love & Special Sauce — reissued earlier this year as a remastered, expanded edition — lies in its breadth of knowledge of jazz and, especially, the blues.

Dutton added hip-hop to the mix, and to listen to G. Love & Special Sauce is to recognize a thick thread of those influences. Dutton has a lifelong passion for street poetry and a gift for both phrasing and delivering lyrics. But he’s also fully aware that he’s a white man who had success with a Black art form.

“You spend a lot of your early years having to prove yourself and I’ve felt a lot of pressure,” Dutton says. “It was like, ‘How can you be appropriating Black music? Hip-hop, jazz, and blues? And be a white kid from Philadelphia?’ I was just playing the music that I loved.”

“This Ain’t Living” was a high point of Dutton’s 1994 debut. Clocking in at six minutes and 34 seconds, the melody simmers, carefully bubbling up into a work of jazz and spoken word. Dutton and Jasper (a fellow street musician from Dutton’s Boston busking days) tag-team the track: “Yo check my beat dig my rhythm/Me belly full but me hungry so me fill it/Once I start gaining the taxes start taking/Cause the governments perfected funk faking.”

Boston is also an enormous college town. For Dutton, the city represented endless opportunities to hone his craft on a nightly basis at bars and cafes. It was also within that scene where Dutton met drummer Jeff “Houseman” Clemens, a musician well-versed in jazz and rock, in 1992.

“We played our first gig in January 1993 and signed to Epic Records that October,” Dutton says of the fast-paced trajectory of G. Love & Special Sauce. “So, from January through October, we played all the venues in Boston, including a residency at the Plough & Stars [in Cambridge].”

Not long into that incubation period before inking the record deal, standup bassist Jim “Jimi Jazz” Prescott came into the fold. Now a bona fide trio, G. Love & Special Sauce started crafting demos to send to music conferences. One entry in particular, the Philadelphia Music Conference, was accepted.

“That’s when we met our producer, Dave Johnson,” Dutton says. “It was us opening for the Roots, who were also trying to get signed.”

“We come off the stage and he goes, ‘Be in the studio at 10 a.m.,’” Dutton chuckles. “He heard us play and saw what we were trying to do. The live performance was dialed in. The next day, we started recording demos that would be the first record.”

By the time Epic signed the band, they already had half the debut album finished. Once the record was completed in December 1993, G. Love & Special Sauce hit the road for a tour crisscrossing America in search of an audience.

“It was a wild time and I was a kid,” Dutton says. “We went from being street musicians living on the fringe of society to working for one of the biggest corporations in the world. Overnight, everything changed.”

Even today, Dutton is touring as frequently as his younger days, upwards of 150 shows in a calendar year. That manic pace and heartfelt purpose underscores a simple truth — G. Love was born to entertain. During the pandemic, he encouraged fans to escape the boredom and isolation of quarantine by submitting homemade clips for his own “Shake Your Hair” video.

Onstage, Jimi Jazz is still slapping the bass alongside Dutton. Houseman has since stepped off the bus to transition into a quieter lifestyle. In his place is Chuck Treece, a drummer, former professional skateboarder, Philly native, and longtime friend of Dutton.

Together, they’re keeping an album released 30 years ago not only alive, but vital to Philly music. “You know, I wrote those songs when I was 20 years old. I’m 51, but they still mean so much to me,” Dutton says. “I still connect with them, and connect with that kid, too, that person I was when I wrote it. It makes me emotional a lot of times.”
