Great Runs

Kraków, Poland

A comprehensive guide to the best places to run in kraków.

krakow running tour

Located in southern Poland near the Czech border, Kraków is the country’s second largest city and an important contributor to its economic and cultural vibrancy. Though the invaded city became the headquarters for Germany’s central government during World War II, it retained much of its historic and architectural integrity, and in 1978 the shining city along the Vistula River was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Extensive river paths and well-preserved medieval core ringed by remnants of the city’s medieval walls make running in Kraków scenic and pleasurable.

The best places to run in Kraków include the waterfront path along the Vistula, and the one-of-a-kind runseeing tour along Planty Park –a moat-turned-walking path around the city’s historic Old Town. There are also a number of pleasant park runs, including the extensive trails of the Wolski Forest .

It’s easy to get around on foot in this compact city, but buses and taxis are accessible and inexpensive options for further flung routes. It all depends on where you stay, but note that many of our routes are close enough to string together for mega mileage and a comprehensive tour of Kraków.

Kraków has a large number of hotels at various budget levels. We recommend staying east of the aleja Adama Mickiewicza, for good access to the old city, and The Planty for running. Or, stay closer to the Vistula River paths, on the northern side in the trendy Kazimierz neighborhood, or just on the south side.

You can find a guide to accommodations and more in Krakow at Krakow.pl .

You can find running gear at Sklep Biegacza , with locations in central Kraków and the Kazimierz neighborhood. MikeSPORT has running and cycling clothing. And there are outlet stores for Asics, Nike, and New Balance.

There isn’t much info available on public running groups, but you can take a running tour of Krakow with Krakow Running Tours .

  • Running to God in Kraków

By Laura Bailey   •   April 14, 2024

krakow running tour

Seventeen-year-old Anna* stood among hundreds of people near the front stage of the TAURON Arena Kraków.

Two years ago, Anna had fled with her family to Warsaw from Ukraine after the war began with Russia.

“In Poland, there are many people who have run from other places to come here,” said Franklin Graham during his Gospel message that touched Anna’s heart.

By the end of the night, she had responded to Franklin Graham’s invitation to receive Jesus Christ in repentance and faith into her life at the God Loves You Tour (Bóg Cię Kocha).

“She didn’t want to share with me,” said prayer volunteer Monika. But the middle school teacher realized Anna must have experienced so much trauma in her young life.

Monika felt God give her the words specifically for Anna.

“I prayed for God to heal her emotions, her spirit, body, and soul,” she said.

‘We Thank God’

Franklin Graham preached from Luke 15, about the prodigal son running from his father, only to return later and ask for forgiveness. His father was overjoyed and immediately forgave his son, just as God does for those who come to Him.

“He will come into your heart and life if you invite Him,” he told the packed arena, “but you have to confess your sins, repent, and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Altogether, more than 13,000 people heard the Good News of Jesus Christ—with many arriving on nearly 200 chartered buses from all over Poland.

“Jesus is not dead, he’s alive,” Franklin Graham said, as his message was translated into Polish, Ukrainian, and sign language.

Thousands in the packed TAURON Arena Kraków listened intently as he expressed his gratitude.

“We thank God for the heritage of Poland,” Franklin Graham said. “We thank you for how you have stood for Biblical values here in Europe.”

‘I Feel Free’

At the end of the night, Nyasha* soaked up a heartfelt embrace from Agnieszka, a prayer volunteer.

Nyasha, a college student, had seen some ads for the event, and a friend encouraged her to go. She had only moved to Kraków from Zimbabwe last November and only knew a few people well.

The 25-year-old worked up the courage to come by herself to the arena. As she listened to Franklin Graham share the Gospel , Nyasha felt a nudge from the Holy Spirit.

When the evangelist invited people to ask Jesus Christ for forgiveness and make His home in their heart, she knew she wanted this.

“I feel light, I feel free,” she said afterward. “I need Jesus in my life.”

Agnieszka gave Nyasha a Bible and invited her to church where they plan to meet on Sunday.

‘Fill the Churches’

Newlyweds Patryk and Monika Antoniuk lead the youth group at Church for the City of Krakow.

And though their work in coordinating volunteers for the God Loves You Tour is now over, “it’s just the starting point,” Monika said.

“We pray for God to fill the churches,” she said. “We want young people to stay in the church, for God to protect their hearts—that they’ll continue their journey with God.

“Now we have to take care of them and make disciples,” Patrick added.

“We want to see God’s glory revealed in a mighty way in Poland—a revelation of God,” he said, “to see new churches, changed lives, families reunited, and the brokenhearted become new.”

>>Watch a 90-second wrap-up video from the God Loves You Tour in Kraków. Please pray for all the new believers in Poland to find a church home and grow in their faith.

To help protect the Exchange, the tour has requested all tickets be mobile only and restricted from transfer. Please note, a valid bank account or debit card within the country of your event is required to sell on the Face Value Exchange. Scottie Scheffler to miss Wells Fargo Championship

Awaiting birth of his first child, fedexcup leader hasn’t played since rbc heritage win.

Change Text Size

The resumption of Scottie Scheffler’s record run will need to wait at least another week. Scheffler is not in the field for next week’s Wells Fargo Championship, which was released at 5 p.m. ET on Friday.

The Wells Fargo Championship, the sixth Signature Event of the season, begins Thursday at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Scheffler has four victories and a runner-up in his past five PGA TOUR starts. That stretch has given him a commanding lead in both the FedExCup and Official World Golf Ranking. It also has occurred while he and his wife Meredith await the birth of their first child.

The PGA Championship will be played at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, the week after the Wells Fargo. If Scheffler does play the PGA, it will come after three weeks at home. He has not competed since his victory at the RBC Heritage, which concluded April 22. That win made him the first player since Bernhard Langer in 1985 to win the Masters and RBC Heritage in back-to-back weeks.

Scottie Scheffler continues historic run to win 10th title at RBC Heritage

Scheffler preceded those two victories with a five-shot victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard and a historic performance at THE PLAYERS, where he successfully defended his title by shooting a final-round 64. Scheffler is the first player to win back-to-back PLAYERS Championships.

He also joined Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus as the only players to win multiple Masters and PLAYERS, and became the fourth-youngest player to win multiple Masters, behind only Woods, Nicklaus and Seve Ballesteros. Scheffler also won the Masters in 2022.

Only two players have won the year’s first two majors since Nicklaus in 1972: Woods (2002) and Jordan Spieth (2015). While it is assumed Scheffler will play the PGA Championship, his status is not known because of uncertainty around his baby’s due date.

Golfweek’s Adam Schupak reported earlier this week that Scheffler’s parents said the baby has not yet arrived, but Scottie has not publicly shared the due date. Scheffler said at the Masters that he had plans in place to fly home immediately from Augusta National if Meredith, who was home in Dallas, did go into labor. That did not happen, and now the wait is on to see whether Scheffler’s Grand Slam quest can continue.

Lynch: pga tour stars appear to be gaming the system. is it true doesn’t matter, share this article.

The scorched-earth political strategist Lee Atwater has been dead for more than three decades, but one of his odious aphorisms has never been more alive: “Perception is reality.” One need only skim the scummy surface of social media to realize how many people require no evidence to support fiercely held convictions about the malfeasance of others. The prevalence of that sentiment in every realm of life means it’s unsurprising to see it bubble up in golf, but it does present yet another headache for the PGA Tour, since the problematic perception is emanating from its own board members.

There are numerous arguments why Webb Simpson warrants sponsor’s exemptions into tournaments for which he is not otherwise eligible, the latest of which he has received for next week’s Wells Fargo Championship. He’s a popular former major champion. He’s built sturdy relationships on a reputation for professionalism and keeping things moving on the golf course (OK, that’s only half true). He has been a diligent member of the Tour’s Policy Board as it tries to navigate shark-infested waters. He’s chosen well in the places where he has won (Harbour Town) and where he lives (Quail Hollow, the host venue for the Wells Fargo). You can see why he’d get a special invitation or two.

But four? And all for signature events, the most lucrative stops on Tour with excessively reduced field sizes? That’s half of the eight starts Simpson has made in 2024. There have been 10 non-signature tournaments he chose not to play. Simpson doesn’t traffic much in profanity, so someone ought to explain to him the concept of taking the piss.

He isn’t the only player-director on the Policy Board whose schedule has been scrutinized. Adam Scott received free passes into three signature events this year. Two other player-directors each got one — Peter Malnati and Tiger Woods, who was ushered into the Genesis Invitational, where he was also the tournament host. So generously are golden tickets gifted to board members that one almost expects the panel’s chair, antediluvian attorney Ed Herlihy, to peg it in a signature event, too.

Every invitation extended to player-directors has merit and is defensible, for those who care to defend them. None of those players is acting unethically by requesting and accepting exemptions since regulations permit members to use an unlimited number of them. But the pattern of invitations for player-directors creates a lousy perception that board members are gaming the system for their own benefit. It doesn’t matter if it’s the reality. The mere impression of self-dealing is perilous for an organization already running on fumes when it comes to goodwill among the rank and file.

Sponsors who dispense these exemptions aren’t breaking rules either. In return for anteing up a small fortune, events ought to be given latitude in how they deploy their limited number of invitations, even if it leads to jarring parochialism. Witness Ricky Barnes getting into the 2023 WM Phoenix Open (then a signature tournament) for no apparent reason other than being considered a swell guy by the Thunderbirds who run things. But following applicable guidelines isn’t really enough these days. There are plenty of common practices at the Tour that are no longer fit for purpose. Common sense and awareness of optics need to apply, too.

Rank and file players are seeing their opportunities dwindle, a trend likely to continue as the Tour product is further streamlined in the coming years. There will be fewer tournaments, fewer cards available, fewer chances to make a living. That’s already painfully apparent this season to card-holders who earned status but lack privilege or seniority. It adds insult to injury for them to see sponsor exemptions into the most sought-after tournaments repeatedly used to prop up players who are not sufficiently competitive, whose best days are in the rearview.

Sure, player-directors who express concerns about loose governance on the Tour’s board should be more conscious of their own conduct when it comes to accepting unearned perks, but the onus here is on the Tour’s management and Player Advisory Council to act. The circuit will never be the complete meritocracy it imagines itself to be, in which every player earns his seat at the feast. Exemptions aren’t going anywhere. Imagine Jay Monahan calling a sponsor to tell them that Tiger Woods can’t play their event, even if he says he wants to. But stricter limits are essential.

Unlimited invitations to regular Tour events are fine, but the fast lane into signature events needs to be closed after a couple trips. The elevated events simply count for too much — particularly FedEx Cup points, the most meaningful currency now in determining playing privileges. But go further. For every exemption into a lucrative signature stop, the recipient should be required to enter a regular event that they haven’t supported in recent years. Players who take more from the business ought to have no issue with giving more, since they are now league owners.

Position matters when it comes to how player-directors operate during their terms on the board. Being a nice guy isn’t enough to justify creating an untoward perception. And living at the host venue sure as hell isn’t either.

Watch Bruce Springsteen Kick Off European Tour With First ‘So Young And In Love’ Performance Since 2013

  • By Andy Greene

Andy Greene

Prior to hitting the road this year, Bruce Springsteen promised that he’d mix up the setlist far more than he did last year when a vocal contingent of fans complained there wasn’t enough variation from night to night. “Some of my basic themes of mortality and life and those things, I’m going to keep set,” he said on SiriusXM’s E Street Radio. “I think I’m gonna move around the other parts of the set a lot more, so there’ll be a much wider song selection going on. So we’re looking at it like, it’s a little bit of the old tour, but we’re looking at it like a new tour.”

At the kickoff date of his 2024 European tour at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, Springsteen stuck to that promise by beginning the show with “So Young And In Love,” a wonderfully obscure tune he hadn’t played live since 2013.

The Results Are In: Kendrick Lamar Won the Great Rap War

Everything that's happened in the drake-kendrick beef, tommy lee wins round in helicopter sexual assault lawsuit, tom brady briefly forgets what a roast is after jeff ross' robert kraft massage joke.

The other notable moments in Cardiff were the first performances of “The River” and “Born in the U.S.A.” this year. The latter song rarely surfaces on this side of the Atlantic these days. It was played once in the States in 2023 and 22 times in Europe. On the 2016/17 River tour, it was played at four American gigs and 22 overseas ones. (The song has a long history of being misread in America .)

Springsteen and the E Street Band continue their European tour Thursday night in Belfast, Ireland. Another U.S. leg begins on August 15 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The 2024 tour wraps up on November 22 in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Walking tour series of historic Pleasant Grove structures kicking off Monday

By laura giles - special to the daily herald | may 6, 2024.

krakow running tour

Strolling around the quaint streets of Pleasant Grove, enjoying spring and summer weather and learning about the city’s historic homes and buildings: That’s what the Pleasant Grove Historic Preservation Commission’s Walking Tour Series is all about, and this year’s series begins Monday.

“If you attended one of our three tours last summer, you know that this is a great event! We feature one historic street a month with interior and exterior tours of its buildings. The tour also includes a walking tour booklet and refreshments,” reads a post on the commission’s Facebook page .

According to Laurel Cunningham, commission chairperson, the walking tour series first began in 2019, but it was not held again the following year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The series started up again last summer.

“We wanted to bring awareness to Pleasant Grove’s built history and the great stories that go along with the oldest homes in town,” Cunningham said. “We believe the Baba Dioum quote, ‘In the end, we will conserve only what we love; we will love only what we understand; and we will understand only what we are taught.'” Dioum is a forestry engineer in Senegal.

Last year’s walking tours had a great turnout, according to Cunningham. About 300 people participated across the three tours that were hosted.

The first tour of this series will be held at 6 p.m. Monday. This tour will feature the commercial buildings and homes of historic Main Street. Main Street is part of the city’s historic downtown area. Those wanting to participate should meet at the northwest corner of Downtown Park, 100 S. Main St., to join the guided tour.

On July 15, the series continues with a tour of Center Street, above 100 East. On Aug. 26, the tour will include homes on 200 East, near 200 South.

Those taking the tour will learn about the people who built, worked and lived in the buildings as well as the buildings themselves. The tours are free and do not require tickets. A newly researched, 100-page walking tour book will be available for $10.

Pleasant Grove, like other Utah communities, has many historic buildings that ignite curiosity. The Walking Tour Series aims to satisfy some of the curiosity surrounding the history of the many buildings.

Recently, Cunningham and the commission received an award for rehabilitation and restoration from Preservation Utah in this year’s Community Stewardship Awards. The award was given for the restoration of the National Register-listed Old Town Hall, located at 105 S. 100 East. The historic building was transformed from a deteriorated state to a vibrant community space, according to a Preservation Utah post on Facebook.

For more information about the city’s history or the Walking Tour Series, check out the Pleasant Grove Historic Preservation Commission’s Facebook page.

TOURNAMENT RESULTS

{{tournament.sponsortitle}}, player results, bouncing back: rublev thrilled with madrid triumph after illness & struggles.

Andrey Rublev celebrates his Madrid triumph with his team inside Manolo Santana Stadium on Sunday.

Andrey Rublev arrived at the Mutua Madrid Open on a four-match losing streak. The seventh seed flipped the script in style in the Spanish capital, where he bounced back from a difficult few months by lifting his second ATP Masters 1000 trophy on Sunday.

Reflecting on his recent form, Rublev believes highs and lows are part of the sport but is delighted to be back in the winners' circle in Madrid.

All love and respect between @AndreyRublev97 and @felixtennis 👏 We love to see it 🫶 @MutuaMadridOpen | #ThisIsTennis pic.twitter.com/7ABugf1SxS — ATP Tour (@atptour) May 5, 2024

“I think it's normal to have ups and downs because this season I started really well and I was playing amazing,” Rublev said in his post-match press conference. “Then somehow I started to do a bit worse and then a couple of weeks I could not win a match. I think this is normal to have up-and-downs and everyone go through this, so I guess my focus was not to feel if when I will go back to normal or what is normal.

“For me, it was just to keep working, to keep trying to improve, because in one moment the season is long and we have too many opportunities. In one moment I will have a chance and then as soon as I will have a chance, I will need to use it, because this week will change everything. In the end, it happened here. Now looks like clay season has been so good to me, even if the past two clay tournaments I lost first round.”

Rublev upset two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-finals and beat American Taylor Fritz in the semi-finals. He then defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final to win his second ATP Masters 1000 title and 16th tour-level title overall.

The 26-year-old’s victory is even more impressive when he revealed that he has battled with illness all week.

“I'm still sick and tomorrow I will go to the hospital for a full check,” Rublev said. “I don't know exactly what's going on, because I have been sick already for eight, nine days and this is not normal. The same, not really improvements, which is strange, because normally all my life, if I was sick, it's two, three days, maximum. Still maybe fever but nothing special.”

Rublev is up to fifth in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin and will next head to the ATP Masters 1000 event in Rome full of confidence.

“I'm really happy. I'm really happy that I was able to perform well [in] all the matches,” Rublev said. “I think I showed a great level of tennis since the first match. In the end, I was able to win a title. And it now looks like everything, the last couple of weeks, couple of tournaments never happened. Now I guess the most important thing is to try to recover and to be 100 per cent ready for Rome.”
