The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring a safe and enjoyable time for everyone. The facility was clean, well-maintained, and offered a fantastic range of play areas suitable for different age groups. It was a joy to see our kids having so much fun exploring and playing. A definite go-to spot for a delightful day of play

My child and I came here because she wanted to get her wiggles out. Safari is inside the mall, right upstairs near JCPenney. It isn't very large. We came during the weekend and they charge more, I think 13.99 or something. One free parent with a paid child admission. I think because it was so small there weren't a lot of things inside. The playground at factoria Mall feels less compact and has the foam ball shooter gun. Also , I noticed there were areas that are blocked off (maybe in need of repair?) And kids couldn't play in it. Nonetheless, she enjoyed it - after all, she's not paying for it. There are seats for adults to sit in. I was able to find a space. Also, they have a 2hr time limit. I ended up staying just over an hour. They have music and it's relatively clean. The bathrooms aren't too bad either. The disclosure/sign in is simple - just a signature and simple info.

She definitely went out of her way in regards to everyone's kids and their safety. The parents who think they can just neglect their kids here, she will call them out. So watch your kid! Good: The gym was nice, clean, lots of smalls cubbies for shoes (don't over pack there's no space for diaper bags, strollers, etc.) they offer socks and room temp water bottle for $1.50 Lots of nooks with different activities, lots of slides & a small area for children under 2 Bad: To start off the site states $13.99 for 1 child & 1 adult we were charged $16.99 or so. Kinda pricy in my opinion. pretty small location so be prepared for a crowd, on weekends/busy hours. tight for adults to navigate along with their small toddlers. You're given wristbands but they don't verify you're leaving with the kid you came in with. Overall ok for when you're in a pinch and need to kill a few hours but definitely not with the price we paid vs price advertised. Not sure if we'll be back yet.

We have been coming here since it reopened from COVID and we had never had an issue with both parents coming in and only paying for the parent that would be playing with our child. The place only had about 2 - 3 children playing so I would understand if it would be at its busiest (even on the busiest days where you can't even walk because of how many children there is we had never been informed of this 'rule' and never had an issue with dad and mom both coming in with only one paying ) this was honestly a disappointed because it was family day and due to this we were unable to spend it as such. Completely disappointed on how they want to make money off of parents as well

This place is a great place for kids to play and it safe. But unfortunately my daughter got sick when we left the playground, cause the other kids came inside and I heard they are coughing bad. But the staff still let them in to play and the rules are their, they are not follow this guidelines. So my daughter started coughing like 30min when we left. Until now she is having bad cough and wheezing and started to have fever. So my advise is if you enter the playground and their are kids coughing up a storm and they don't have mask on let the staff know or leave and ask the staff for a refund or a credit because obviously they are not doing their job correctly and now my daughter been in the ER twice for this coughing it really annoying to see my kid get sick. Come on do better job. It not the playground fault it your freaking staff.

I like taking my son places and this is one of his favorites. I had my emotional support animal and my kid with me. My kid really wanted to play. One person was ready to let me pay for the 1/2 hour that was left before they closed. Then the other employee said, no dogs allowed. I told him it was emotional and support has his registration with me. I asked if he was the manager. He initially said no, then he said yes and said his name was Jerry. I informed him that i did not see anything stating no dogs allowed except for a no for or drink sign. My son was crying because he couldn't play. He wouldn't even let me wait outside with the dog while my son played. I had a horrible experience at this place. No resolution was ever attempted by this "manager."

With the new vaccine card policy, the management needs to put a big sign clearly stated that adults need to be "fully vaccinated" before go in. Today I saw this crazy guy only had one shot and tried to argue with the young worker here. Come on, they are following the rule, they don't make it up. All these younger workers need more support from the management/ owner. The guy keep saying he has to wait 2 weeks for the 2nd shot. Hey, come back in 2 weeks then! You have the whole 9 months to do it but if you choose to only do it now, we can't help. Keep everyone safe please! Your employee did a great job! She deserved a raise!!

I love that the play area is tall enough to have slides and places for my son to climb but at also the sheer mesh siding makes it easy enough to keep track of him when I need to sit on the side for a while with my baby!

Attended a birthday party here. Kids had a great time running around. It was very busy because it was a weekend. We still had plenty of space to run around. Not sure how crazy it gets during a regular day. My daughter (almost 3) was able to explore and navigate the entire space with confidence and safety. Plenty of space for kids and parents. Small section for under 2 as well if you have several kids with different energy levels. Staff are always very friendly and professional. Because they vacuum frequently, the floor is clean. Bathrooms are clean also. They carefully check the numbers on armbands when kids are taken out of the place. They walk around the jungle gym and try to rescue if kids are crying left alone making sure their parents are aware. Very kids safety-centric. Great first experience. Employees were doing a great job reminding kids and adults of the rules. Made it fun, safe and enjoyable for my 8, 6 and 2 year old. We'll be back. Expect it to be very busy/max capacity on the weekends. Week days better. I highly recommend this playground because of the employees and the variety of play areas. Great Customer Service, Great Quality Gym. Kids are a little crazy obviously since it looks so fun. They do need to wear socks in the play area so make sure they are wearing them or bring some with you. If you don't have any they sell them for $1.50. It's a great place to take the kids on cold rainy days so they can get out that energy and save your sanity! Parents can also climb around with their children. Safari is a wonderful place for the kids to burn off energy for hours. Tips: * It can get extremely crowded so just try to get there earlier in the day if you can... * Don't dress them too warm going here cuz they will break a sweat running around! Be sure to bring some water :D! * You can bring your own food but they also sell snacks. * Admission is for all day; you get a wrist band and can leave and come back to play some more on the same day.

Another nifty advantage of this app is its batch processing feature, allowing you to remove the background of multiple images at the same time. Here's how to erase the background of your photos using Files on iPhone:

• In the Files app, locate the photo in which you want to remove the background.
• Long-press on the image (make sure not to open it).
• Select Quick Actions from the contextual menu.
• Tap Remove Background. Your image will automatically be saved as a new background-less photo in the same folder as the original image.
• For convenience, add all your photos to the same folder. To move a photo from a different folder, long-press on it, select Move, and choose your designated folder.
• Open the folder containing your images.
• Press the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner.
• Tap Select.
• Mark all the photos where you need to remove the background.
• Tap the three-dot menu in the bottom-right corner.
• Select Remove Background from the menu. The app will then process all your photos and save them to your folder.

Safari is great for removing backgrounds on online images

Photos and Files may be your go-to apps for erasing the background of images already found on your device. But if you need to remove the background of an online image, perhaps you have a stock image you want to use for a presentation or a selfie uploaded to your cloud storage like Google Drive or Dropbox that you need as an ID picture, you can turn to Safari instead. The app lets you erase image backgrounds without downloading the pictures first, making the process much faster. Follow this quick step-by-step guide to do so:

• Launch Safari.
• Search for the photo you need or open the webpage where your photo is found.
• Long-press on the image. If it's on a cloud storage like Google Drive, don't open the photo; simply tap and hold it.
• Select Copy Subject from the floating menu.
• Launch your Files app.
• Open a folder in your Files app. Alternatively, create a new folder by selecting the three-dot menu at the top-right and tapping New Folder.
• Long-press on an empty space inside the folder.
• Select Paste from the menu. Your background-less photo should now appear in the Files app.

Try Adobe Creative Cloud for removing image backgrounds

When it comes to photo editing, many folks use Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom. However, you actually don't need complex and expensive apps just to remove the backgrounds of images on your iPhone. Adobe Creative Cloud can do the job just fine without the burden of overly complicated interfaces or a hefty price tag. To use Creative Cloud to erase the background of an image, here's what you need to do:

• Install Adobe Creative Cloud from the App Store. 
• Open the app. 
• At the top of the homepage, select Remove background. 
• Scroll through the Photos or Albums tab to find your image. Alternatively, enter a keyword in the search bar to locate your image quickly. 
• Tap on the photo to select it. 
• On the pop-up, tap Proceed. This will upload the image to Creative Cloud, where the background will be automatically erased. 
• If you like the edited photo, press Continue; otherwise, select Discard to scrap the edit. 
• To save the background-less image, tap on Save to camera roll and give Creative Cloud access to your photos. 
• To share the edited image, press Share and select where you want to send it. Other options here include Create Watch Face, Add to Shared Album, and Save to Files. 
• To delete the image from Creative Cloud, select Discard.  

A quick disclaimer: While Adobe Creative Cloud is free to use and download, you do need to sign in or create a free account, as the background remover tool (and any of the other quick actions) can only be used up to 10 times without an account. 

Use PhotoRoom to remove image backgrounds

PhotoRoom is one of the most popular photo editors on iPhone,  as evidenced by its #21 rank in the Photo & Video category and over 100,000 ratings on the App Store. But unlike your typical photo editor loaded with a bunch of functionalities, PhotoRoom specializes in removing and replacing the background of your photos. Here's how to use the app:

• Get PhotoRoom from the App Store.
• Launch the app.
• Go to the Create tab at the bottom of the screen.
• Tap on Remove background at the top of the screen.
• Allow the app access to your photo library.
• Select your image from your camera roll or files. Alternatively, take a new picture.
• Wait for PhotoRoom to finish scanning your picture and removing its background.
• Confirm that the cutout selected is the subject you want to keep.
• If it contains areas you don't want to include, tap the cutout to enter the edit screen, select Erase, and brush over the areas you need to remove. Tap Done to save your selection.
• If the selected cutout is missing some parts you want to retain, tap the cutout to enter the edit screen, choose Restore, and mark the areas you want to include in the final photo. Tap Done to save.
• In the background selection page, tap on Transparent.
• (Optional) Tap the cutout and resize it by zooming in and out.
• (Optional) Edit the image as needed using PhotoRoom's editing tools like Text, Shadows, and Insert (new image).
• Save the photo by tapping Export > Save Image (or Save to Files).
• Select the Batch Mode tab at the bottom.
• Tap Start Batch.
• Choose all your images.
• Hit Add at the top-right corner.
• Select Transparent as the background.
• Tap Export images to save all your photos.

Get Pixelcut from the App Store to remove backgrounds

Like PhotoRoom, Pixelcut is designed to remove the background of your images and replace it with a more appropriate photo, such as a plain colored backdrop, an image of the beach, or a Halloween-themed picture. This makes the app the perfect tool for creating visually appealing eBay listings, product photos, and even profile pictures. Follow these steps to use Pixelcut to erase the background of your photos on your iPhone:

• Install Pixelcut from the App Store.
• Open the app.
• Under the Basics section on the homepage, tap Transparent.
• In the Photos tab at the bottom of the screen, tap on the picture you want to use. If your image is stored in the Files app, select the Files tab instead. You can also snap a new picture if you wish.
• If Pixelcut included sections that shouldn't be part of the cutout, tap Erase and mark the areas you want to remove. Tap the checkmark to save it.
• If important parts of the image were removed in the cutout, select Restore and brush over the desired sections to re-include them. Save the new cutout by tapping on the checkmark at the top.
• (Optional) To change the size of the photo, select Size and pick one of the available options (e.g., Story, Portrait, Shopify Square).

Dad shot 3 times got into 'survival mode,' escaped Texas mall massacre

Eight were killed and seven, including Irvin Walker, were injured in the attack.

Irvin Walker II had just dropped off his wife at the Allen Premium Outlets in Texas when a gunman fired shots into his car, hitting him three times.

The dad and husband "got into survival mode," his attorney, Daryl Washington, told ABC News. "He wanted to live."

Walker tried to drive away, but he was losing so much blood that he was afraid of bleeding out, Washington said, so he ran to a store for help. But Walker then realized he was at risk in the store, too, because he didn't know where the gunman was located.

As Walker left the store, he witnessed 20-year-old mall security guard Christian LaCour get shot and killed, Washington said.

"He loves his family, he loves his daughter. ... These are the things that was going through his mind, whether he'd ever see his family again," Washington said.

Walker kept fleeing the mall area until "someone picked him up and put him in the back of a police cruiser" to bring him to safety, Washington said.

The suspect, who died after a confrontation with police, had three weapons on his person and five in his car when he opened fire at the mall on Saturday afternoon, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Eight people were killed and seven, including Walker, were injured.

Walker, who's suffering from physical and mental injuries, has completed one surgery and may need a second, his attorney said.

Among the physical scars are bullet fragments lodged into his skin all over his body, Washington said.

"That's gonna be with him for the remainder of his life -- he won't be able to do just simple things, [like] going into an airport, without the security alarm going off," the attorney said.

"There's no need for a gun with that amount of strength to be on the street," Washington added.

Authorities said Tuesday that it appears the suspect, Mauricio Garcia, targeted the mall and shot people at random. A motive remains unknown.

Texas mall shooting victims include 2 young sisters, a 3-year-old boy and his parents

Families and officials are releasing the names of the eight people killed in a  mass shooting at a Texas mall  on Saturday. They include two young sisters, Daniela and Sofia Mendoza, and three members of the Cho family — parents and their 3-year-old son. Here is what we're learning about the lives lost.

Daniela Mendoza and Sofia Mendoza

Two young sisters, Daniela Mendoza, 11, and Sofia Mendoza, 8, died in the rampage at the Allen Premium Outlets mall, according to a message to families from Superintendent David Vinson of the Wylie Independent School District. Daniela Mendoza was in fourth grade and Sofia Mendoza was in second grade at Cox Elementary in Sachse, Vinson said.

Principal Krista Wilson described the girls as "rays of sunshine," according to Vinson. 

Their mother, Ida, was one of the seven other people wounded in the shooting and was in critical condition, the superintendent said.

Cindy Cho, Kyu Cho and James Cho

A 3-year-old boy, James Cho, and his parents, Cindy and Kyu, were also killed, John Jun, a co-founder of the Dallas-Fort Worth chapter of the Korean American Coalition, confirmed to CBS News. 

The couple's older son, a 6-year-old, was wounded in the shooting but survived, CBS Texas reports .

Christian LaCour

Christian LaCour, 20, was also among the deceased victims, his father confirmed to CBS News. LaCour was working as a security guard at the mall on Saturday.

Aishwarya Thatikonda

Aishwarya Thatikonda, 26, was also among the deceased, the Texas Department of Public Safety said in a Monday afternoon news release. She was from India and was a civil engineer working at a general contracting business based in Frisco. She would have turned 27 later this month, according to the station.

She was known as Aish and was famous for her trademark smile, said her boss, Srinivas Chaluvadi,  CBS Texas reported .

"She's loved and adored, not because she was killed under tragic circumstances, but because who she is personally," he said. "I do not, my heart does not let me give credit for all of this love and affection for the tragic way that she was killed. This love and affection and respect is not out of sympathy. They truly love her. And I truly love her." 

Elio Cumana-Rivas

Elio Cumana-Rivas, a 32-year-old from Dallas, was also among those killed, the Department of Public Safety said.

"Our community has just been hit, and it hurts," Allen Mayor-elect Baine Brooks said during a vigil Sunday.

The suspect's history

The gunman, identified by authorities as 33-year-old  Mauricio Garcia , was shot and killed by a police officer who was at the mall in Allen for an unrelated call. Investigators are looking into his history, including possible extremist views. The Anti-Defamation League's Center on Extremism says social media posts indicate  he was "obsessed with violence" and embraced misogynistic, antisemitic and white supremacist ideologies, sporting large SS and Nazi tattoos.

Posts he made on a Russian social media network also suggest he had been researching the mall and planning the attack for weeks, The Associated Press reported.

Saturday's rampage came just over a week after another mass shooting in Texas, when five people, including a 9-year-old boy, were shot and killed in the town of Cleveland. According to authorities in that case, Francisco Oropeza went into a neighbor's home and opened fire after he was asked to stop shooting his gun late at night while a baby was trying to sleep.

ONTARIO ― While there hasn't been a bookstore at the Richland Mall for some time, there is the next best thing, at least for the next 12 months.

A person can conveniently borrow a book or video or use the computer, shop, and do some mall walking if they want to.

The Ontario branch of the Mansfield Richland County Public Library opened at its temporary location Monday at the Richland Mall, just a short distance from the temporarily closed branch.

The Ontario branch library at 2221 Village Mall Drive closed April 22 for a $3.2 million renovation expected to take a year to complete.

Monday, branch manager Matt Bachelder said people have been knocking on the door for two weeks asking when they would be open.

The shop housing the library, located next to American Eagle's shop, looks like it was meant for a library in the former shoe store, with neatly arranged shelves full of books and videos, a kids' area and computers.

Marianne Au of Mansfield was the first patron Monday.

"I've been looking forward to it," she said. Au said she uses the library every day.

Bachelder said a lot of the people at the mall walking by aren't even their regular customers since many come to walk at the mall or visitors at Avita Health System.

He said the mall will also provide extra space across from the temporary library for the summer reading program activities.

He said the library will have performers, jugglers and more Monday nights beginning the second week in June at 6 p.m. in Ontario Marshall Park.

Bachelder said the library was fortunate that the shelves were already in the store for the former The Shoe Department since the Ontario library branch shelves are in storage during the renovation.

"The idea of being closed for a whole year was pretty daunting," he said.

"We're pretty excited about it (the renovations)," he said. "We're creating an outdoor space and moving the front door so it will be right off the parking lot. It will be a little quicker, a little easier getting in."

Debbie Greter of Lexington was among the handful of mall walkers Monday morning around 9 a.m.

Greter said she tries to walk four or five laps.

She still has the first library card she got around age 5.

The Ontario branch library hours at the Richland Mall are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays; and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays. Call the library branch at 419-529-4912.

The trouble with nicollet mall: it's boring now.

During a recent visit to Denver, I was struck by a question: What went wrong with the Nicollet Mall?

Denver built its own mall in 1982, and it's currently being redone. While construction barricades and detours abound, it didn't take a lot of imagination to see how the 16th Street Mall is different from the one in Minneapolis. Different as in successful.

There were people and plenty of them. People shopping. People going to lunch. All kinds of people from suits to shorts: alone, in pairs, in groups. And there were places for people to go: restaurants, bars, a movie theater. There were chain and local stores of all kinds. There were T-shirt shops. CBD stores. There were neon lights and tacky signs. You might guess the 16th Street Mall has a funkiness to it. Not as funky as Times Square in the '80s, but you know — funky.

Nicollet Mall is a completely different experience. Not funky — empty. Very few stores, as in very, very few. Restaurants, yes (thank you Barbara Flanagan ), but only at one end and then only for a couple blocks. After being completely rebuilt a few years ago, it's pristine, polished, sanitized. It is, in short, boring.

Why are all the cool businesses in the North Loop or Northeast? From Lululemon to Warby Parker to Mill City Running, interesting retailing could be — should be — on the Mall. There's a time when such stores would have been. I'm old enough to remember when people strolled between department stores and women tossed their hats in the air. Woolworth sold popcorn and Young-Quinlan fine men's suits.

Now? Well, not so much.

Why did these two main-street malls turn out so differently?

For one, in the Twin Cities area, the impact of the Mall of America was undeniable. Having a shopping mall that's also a tourist attraction draws away dollars — especially out-of-town dollars — that would be spent in most downtowns.

For another, there are no skyways in Denver. There has been a lot of discussion about skyways — do they hurt or help downtown businesses? (For instance, "A farewell to skyways: The case for bringing them down," Opinion Exchange, April 23, 2017). Who knows, but I know that back in Nicollet Mall's heyday there were plenty of skyways, proof that they can coexist with a thriving street life.

No, I think the Mall's biggest challenge is in plain sight: the buildings. There are a lot of old buildings all up and down 16th Street in Denver. There are almost no old buildings on the Nicollet Mall. In fact, downtown Minneapolis lost its last cool block of fun small businesses when the century-old two-story brick buildings across from the Hilton went. When they were still there, you could see developers just itching to get out the wrecking ball.

Why does this matter?

You need small storefronts. You need reasonable rents. Huge skyscrapers with vast empty polished granite lobbies are dandy, but where are the nail salon and the T-shirt shop and the popcorn stand going to be?

Along with little stores and old buildings come neon signs and weird storefronts in general, all adding to the funky feel. The Nicollet Mall is decidedly not funky. It's as stiff as a starched dress shirt. Can you hang a neon sign outside of a cold glass box and bring it to life? Yeah, good luck with that.

Bottom line: We made some bad choices that doomed the Nicollet Mall to become a glass, limestone and steel wasteland.

What to do now? Well, two thoughts: Conquer physics, invent a time machine, and go back and don't tear down every old building in sight. Failing that, use said time machine to not rebuild the mall in 2017; instead, admit defeat and let it be just a street. Then, as we drive through, we can bore young passengers with stories about how that street used to be cool.

No time machine? Then let's just pledge to stop it. Keep the itchy developers away and stop tearing down every old building downtown. Look around. What — there aren't enough vacant lots to build on?

Since that's not going to happen, all I can say is heads up, Brit's Pub — the developers are coming for you.
